‘Herondaisy should get a divorce.’ I say into the mic. The audience boos as I am pulled of stage by security guards.
‘He’s right.’ And there, right in the middle of the front row stand James Herondale and Cordelia Carstairs themselves, holding their newly signed divorce papers between them.

The reason James and Cordelia fall flat to me is because they are static characters.
The are essentially the same people at the end of the series that they were at the beginning.
The did not change, they did not grow, they just existed.
This is why Thomastair is the better ship in the series even though Jordelia is the main ship.
Thomas and Alastair change each other and improve each other's characters.
Jordelia f*cking don't.

The main argument I see about not shipping Matthew/Cordelia is that they are "better as friends" which is so funny to me because that's exactly the point? The book claims James and Cordelia are friends to lovers but they just aren't? They barely communicate, they even get together because someone else (Grace) did the communicating for them. Matthew and Cordelia would've done the friends to lovers trope so much better because they were actually friends who talked that were also attracted to each other, as opposed to childhood crushes refusing to talk the whole time.

“‘James,’ Matthew said. His voice shook. ‘You didn’t want her.’”
Maybe she doesn’t want either of you-

Oh. This.
I don't like this.
I don't have the context for this snippet, and I think maybe even with it it makes this relationship seem horrendous
Why why why is it played off as a romantic thing when he says "you can hit me as long as you don't hurt yourself"?? That makes me so uncomfortable.
Her response to this better have been horrified that he even thought this or I'm going to lose it

Lucie and Cordelia
Am I the only one who thinks Anna is a way better friend to Cordelia than Lucie? All throughout the series and especially in ChoT, Anna always listened to her and offered her genuine advice and never judged her while Lucie basically blamed her for the mess with James and Matthew, took James' side and tried to guilt her into taking him back and was overall an awful friend. They never felt like decent friends to me much less parabatai material tbh.

James herondale being my "I CAN FIX HIM" character is actually pretty sick. I fix him by picking him up by the scruf of his neck and putting him on the acespec. I fix him by giving him long luscious hair that he grew out below his shoulders in defiance. Him taking care of his hair is his baby steps to self care and shit. (Complete opposite of my journey). I fix him by giving him BI WIFE ENERGY. HE HAS BEEN THROUGH ALOT (cc's character assassination) im healing him-
(All his shitty actions were cc not him. I ship Jordelia but in a, hes a computer arts major and Cordelia is a literature major who does boxing professionally) they are the bisexual heart attack couple the bisexual in question being matthew fairchild

This is really random, but I hate hate hate how some people call James nothing but a horny bland white boy. I think they've twisted the narrative so much they forget he's been abused; by Grace or Tatiana, whatever you want to believe, but he's been abused. His emotions have been dampened, that's why he can only verbalise physical affection. But I seriously can't understand the people who say he's never shown his love for Cordelia. As if:
Learning her language
Carefully decorating their house with her culture in mind
Giving her a fucking necklace and eagerly fantasising about visiting Constantinople with her
Dancing with her at balls even though it looks weird now that they're married
Was the minimum in a marriage of convenience. Cordelia is just blind and (rightfully) insecure to notice that James would heed her every order because he loves her.
Also, did these people even read Chain of Iron? Because the moment the gracelet was off (aka, the moment he regained his ability to fully process his emotions), James did express he loved Cordelia. In fact, he said he began loving Cordelia at fourteen. And he loves her so much he refused to ruin her fun time with Matthew in Paris.
It's just infuriating. People gloss over James to create an oversimplified version of his character that is canonically incorrect, possibly because they like Grace so much that in the span of a year they've decided to forget she's done actual harm, therefore James is just being silly by not processing his emotions? Idk, the thing is their whole anti-James rhetoric is idiotic. They can say they find his character boring, but calling him 'jist a horny man' and not acknowledging he's been abused feels so wrong.
Btw, this is no hate to Grace. She's been abused as well, it's only that when you talk about James you have to talk about Cordelia yk?
I mean, I’m gonna be honest, I follow like four (4) TSC blogs and all of those don’t even exclusively post about TLH, so I’d say that on my blog and with whoever I’m chatting with, it’s acknowledged that James being “horny and reckless” isn’t his personality or the sum of his character– that’d be reducing him to a caricature. And pretty much none of my mutuals think he’s bland either– the whole “unhinged James” bit is just for humor.
James is romantic and sensitive and caring and chivalrous and truly loves Cordelia and he shows it. He loves Cordelia and is the ultimate husband material sans gracelet. So yeah, it is annoying if people disregard his actual feelings for her. Contrary to popular belief, he didn’t spend the whole of chog or choi just staring at her chest and making out. James is pretty multi-faceted, and I don’t care for any anti-James sentiments, period.

ANTI FAIRSTAIRS
I believe Jordelia will be Endgame. I do not expect anything to happen between Matthew and Cordelia, but there is one scenario I could see playing out. Picking up where coi left off, Daisy is absolutely heartbroken. She thinks that James is in love with Grace, and therefore they have no future together. She doesn’t think she’ll ever get what she really wants, so she considers settling for good enough. (I mean absolutely no offense to Matthew.) She likes Matthew as a person, so she thinks that if she can’t have the love of her life, then maybe she can be happy with a nice boy who loves her. I imagine that most of Daisy’s POVs would be her trying to convince herself that she likes Matthew and to forget about James. To test her theory, I can see Daisy going as far as to kiss Matthew. But, I think that one kiss is as far as it will go. Daisy will kiss him, but it won’t feel right. She’ll immediately realize that she ONLY loves James, and then she’ll apologize and tell Matthew that she can’t do this.
If this plays out like this, I think that chances are James will see that kiss, and then he’ll be heartbroken. He’ll assume Daisy and Matthew are together, so he won’t tell Daisy how he feels because he doesn’t want to ruin their relationship, leading to more drama.
(Yes, I realize this would be kind of a dick move on Daisy’s part but so was convincing a heartbroken girl to run away with you without giving her time to think but in her defense, she is hurting and also a teenager, and sometimes teenagers are dumb.)

Why do you hate Jordelia? Lol I don't mind, I'm not very emotionally invested in them either way, but I'm super curious
Alright Herondaisy stans please scroll im about to be very mean
tw for incoherency
It’s just aaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhh in a bad way yk. Like there is no growth in this ship. Nothing happens apart from James talks about Cordelia’s tits. Like, you’re not special for that James. Your literal sister had more chemistry with your literal wife.
chog herondaisy is basically cordelia going ‘when will he notice me :(((((‘ while james goes ‘hm. 🙂’
and THEN Cordelia decides to defend James for fucking burning a house down by saying that she fucked him. Now, if I’d had a crush on a guy for years and he hadn’t even noticed me, I would most likely cheered when his ass went to jail. You’re better then me daisy.
and then we have that stupid fucking fake marriage. I want to preface by saying I really fucking hate fake marriage. basically all that happens there is horny chess playing for sooooo fucking long. Also that fucking whispering room scene. seriously it’s such a fucking cliche. ‘oh no we’re in trouble we should kiss’ AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHBKVOKFJFGUFFSQTHJVF
and then we finally get to chot Herondaisy. this is where i enter my will wood era. In his words: ‘I am shitting. I am pissing. I am holding a toaster over a bath and sobbing the merciful name of G-d.’
the only good thing i got from chot herondaisy was james when fairstairs walked in making out because that shit was hilarious to me.
but oh my godddddd. Cordelia going ‘actually i choose my own man 💪💪💪’ WE ALL KNOW YOURE GOING TO PICK JAMES HOLY SHIT
Anyway they angsted for a bit then Christopher ‘The Cupid Of This Shit’ Lightwood came and single-handedly (well he had grace to help him) saved their marriage.
THEN they fucked. a lot. the end.
also cordelia is like very weirdly sexualised through the whole thing? like yes cc we get it this seventeen year old woc has massive tits okay???
ALSO it seriously feels like to me that it’s a childhood crush on both of their parts that they should have grown out of years ago.
so yeah it’s just a very flat and annoying ship to me and i am genuinely wishing divorce on them.

I dont like her either post chot
Then there is two of us 👀
It's just... I don't like how she acted towards a lot of characters in cot and how the narrative framed her. I had this issue with others too, to different degrees, but I was mostly annoyed by her behavior in general. Maybe bc she had more povs hence we mostly knew what she thought/did and sometimes it made me want to bang my head on the wall and tell her 'please stop' 😐

The way you hate tda and love chot is so... unusual to me. I do not read much about tda on tumblr (because my timeline is all about the other series), but when I created my blog, people loved tda and during sobh as well (based on my perception) . And chot... I don't need to explain. People hate chot. I got over this fact.
There are multiple facets to this answer, but yeah. I'm a bit unusual regarding this - I know a couple other people like me, but most people share one of these views and not the other.
ChoT was everything that I personally wanted it to be. Lots of people are mad that the plot began too late, but I actually don't care about the plot stuff. I love TLH because I want to spend time with that group of characters (who are by far my faves). This is especially true of Matthew, Alastair, and Thomas, my faves, who were notably done a lot of justice in ChoT. I was so happy with all of their storylines and found them so hopeful and healing. My soul was cleansed by Matthew's recovery and Thomastair's love story. I couldn't have asked for anything better for them (besides more content! But that's what fic is for).
Some people think there were issues with Jordelia. I don't personally see them, but I also don't really care about that ship. I love Cordelia and am really happy with her storyline because she got to be the hero she dreamed of being, and I thought that her arc was concluded in a generally-satisfying way as it was written (though I would personally have written some previous aspects of her story differently in ChoI.) I love her.
Other people didn't like the generally-happy ending, but I actively wanted nothing else. I personally hate tragedies, for one thing, but I also love hope. The ChoT ending offered me a lot of hope when I needed it. And I get really angry at people who just bitch and moan that happy endings are Less Than, because they're really NOT if they provide satisfying conclusions to the character arc. (I'm not sure if your ask is anti-ChoT or not, but I adored it, adored it so much. The only issues I had were Kit and Grace, which I want to be less tragic).
Re: TDA. It just hit tons of bad spots for me, primarily because I read for characters. I genuinely actively dislike all 5 mains in TDA (Emma/Julian and Kieran/Mark/Cristina) and find those ships intolerable. The only things I like are a botched Malcolm/Annabel plotline, a very minor character (Diana), and the Malec wedding that I still thought could have been written better. I recommend just skipping TDA, but I'm unusual in that way. I genuinely see no redeeming qualities in it from the characters to the plotlines to the writing.
I also read very little of SoBH, tbh. I read it whenever someone told me there was a Wessa or TLH mention, but that's it. I couldn't tolerate all the Jemma and Kierarktina, and seeing modern-day Tessa just be Jem's Blurry Wife always feels like a wound that doesn't close up. And that's most of SoBH, so. I'll read the physical book when it comes out because I think she's going to expand on the historical content, though, and I'm excited for that.
