Hey anon :) sure! Some were difficult to pick because lately I don't have many opinions about tsc (bc I mostly think about the things I like) so sorry if they sound boring but these are my opinions lol

Let's start with the unpopular takes...

TLH is my favorite series

I adore Ghostwriter

I think Jem is overrated but I don't dislike him

I didn't like TDA

I am not that excited for TWP

And the popular takes hehe

I adore Thomastair

I wanted to see more sibling relationships

Clace were my first tsc ship and I care about them

Alastair and Matthew are some of the best characters CC has written

Tessa is the best tsc protagonist

the most agonising thing about holland saying 'once you let the magic in, you've already lost' to kell is the parallel to his receipt of the soul seal, and how he felt the magic running through his veins before he could block it out. he knew first hand how dark magic can damn you once it gets into your blood, antari or not, and it was as much a tired warning and reminder of his own pain as it was a jab at kell's weakness. between that and astrid's desire to keep kell, holland spent the entirety of book one a little too close to seeing kell relive his own trauma, and was consequently doing the few things he could to prevent it

he may not have liked kell, but he refused to let magic ruin kell's life the way it had his. to the point of letting kell kill him.

I'm revising for my teaching exam and I just hope that the lesson plan I'll have to create for my presentation (I will know the topic 24h earlier) will be about a writer/topic from Victorian literature because it's my favorite. It could also be about grammar and other stuff like world Englishes etc but I hope it's about literature because I love literature more? 😂 One of the reasons I want to teach is because I can talk about my special interest as much as I like and be even paid for it lmao

Must admit that one thing that changed the way I see fandom discourse is realizing that a lot of fandom is just… playing with dolls. We're playing with dolls. Shipping? Playing with dolls. AUs? Dolls. Darkfic? Dolls.

I realized something when I reread A Life Erased. That Kell's mother as we've "seen" her in the short story, somehow is hinted at in bits and pieces in Lila. It's like Lila was giving hints about Kell's mother all along and his past before he was given up.

His mom gave him a knife with his real initials on it. Lila is fond of knives, and even though Lila is not her birth name, the name she tells Kell to call her after they introduce each other starts with L, just like his real surname. Those two initials on the knife make me think about the initials lovers carve on tree trunks. I've already said multiple times that knives are symbolic of their relationship, and this object is also symbolic of Kell's identity intertwining with Lila's and viceversa.

His mom was a fire magician. The first magic Lila tries to call on is fire. Her mom and dad likely did illegal things like thieving and traveled on ships, because the text specifies her arms are tanned. Kell's mom has fair skin and red hair just like him, so I assume she must've been a lot under the sun to be described as tanned. Lila used to be a thief, and now she's the captain of a ship. Moreover, one of the ships Lila raids in AGOS is called the Copper Thief. Who has copper hair? Kell, but also his mom.

Perhaps we will see Kell's parents again in future tftop books.
