I very much enjoy anime & manga. I got infected with those brain worms back in high school, & they simply will not leave. Particularly into Sailor Moon, which I haven't stopped thinking about since 1999, (I have OCs for that & a fic I'm gonna one day sit down & plot out beyond This Is The Vibe. I have a few things floating around in my brain, but I just haven't made the time to do anything with it. Maybe since I'm at reception for 6 hours I'll do that 🤷🏻‍♀️) & JoJo's (I also have OCs for this one, but no fic. I do have a homebrewed ttrpg system to run a JoJo's campaign with, though. But I need to finish statting enemy Stand Users & some character design. Also it's not a priority because I have an asoiaf campaign trilogy to finish running). I don't read or watch anything with the quickness, so I haven't watched a ton of newer anime or made that much of a dent in my reading of Berserk, but I do enjoy both newer stuff and Berserk. I even have a couple figures from Demon Slayer, which is probably my favorite newer series? It feels very nostalgic to the series I grew up watching.

I was into the Netflix Witcher series, but I haven't been able to bring myself to finish season 3. No amount of Joey Batey tits or confirmed pansexual Jaskier can really build my hype back up when I've heard the last bit of s3 sucked & I know I probably won't watch season 4. I have collected all but the last book of short stories though, so once I've worked through more of my books I need to give a fair shake before donating I plan to start those & get into The Witcher proper.

The Elder Scrolls is very good & fun, & I know the plots of all the mainline games even though I've only ever actually played Skyrim to completion. I have...I have so many OCs for that. And a fic I'm slowly working on that tells the story of the Dawnguard DLC by way of Lapsed Viglant Of Stendarr & Werewolf Vampire Hunter Are Forcibly Adopted As Serana's New Parents (and also I am confirming Serana as, like, eternally 19 because she feels very teenagery/early 20s-y to me). Fun fact: two of my current very close friends (my Platonic Wife included) were made by way of TES (and then another friend was introduced to me by a TES friend). So, thanks for your service, Todd Howard. Y'know, I guess.

It feels very "What are your hobbies? / Magnets." to say, but, like, dolls in general. I've collected porcelain dolls since I was little (but that collection got pared down massively when I moved from Texas), & I'm currently working through a clean/restore/dress/display of my old Bratz dolls. I've also dropped real adult money on dolls to (out of box, bc it sparks joy) display in my apartment. Specifically the Sasha (my best girl) Rock Angelz repro I waited almost a full year to see drop, Heather Greyson from Shadow High, & The Pride Bratz (I had a giftcard). I need to finish cleaning my old Bratz before I drop money on more though. So I know my shelving situation, lmao.

I am not not into Dragon Age, but I also complain about it all the time. I refuse to engage with it in a multimedia way. What I cannot learn by playing the games/have told to me in those games is simply not for me to know. Just...the way the franchise is handled & how it feels very obvious that Bioware wants to tell an incredibly specific story (while still allowing for character creation?), all the lore decisions they're making that feel like retcons/throw away everything I got invested in early (hello the dwarves & the dalish & Alistair's everything), & the increasing non-optional nature of the comics & books...it brings my blood to boil. The games are fun though! I have fun playing the games! And my personal Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor trios can be pried from my cold, dead hands!

I'm gonna be real, I know much more about Th Old World Of Darkness than Vampie v5, but I am into Vampire The Masquerade. This is, again, a "I have learned everything in bursts of hyperfixation that last a varying length of time," but I would very much like to take one of my two special vampire boys out for a spin one day. Because they're there! They exist & they are appropriately melodramatic, & I love them. Evil, fucked up, Hecata thug & flouncy, Catholic For The Aesthetic Toreador music producer my beloveds 💕

So I finally figured out my aesthetic (which is kind of weird because normally im not the biggest fan of one of the colors) but im going to use characters with a similar aesthetic to describe it first:

Top Left we have Cherry jam from the 2003/2009 version of Strawberry Shortcake

Top Right we have Draculaura from the original Monster High series from the late 2000's to the mid 2010's

Middle Left we have Angel Dust from Hazbin Hotel

Middle Right we have Kotoko from Danganronpa: Ultra Despair girls

Bottom Left we have Jade from the Bratz Dolls more specifically the Rock Angelz version

Bottom right we have Ghoulia from the original Monster High series from the late 2000's to the mid 2010's

So basically the love child of Halloween and Valentines day with a LOT of goth fashion. Main colors being Hot pink, pastel pink (which im not usually that fond of but-), cherry candy red, dark royal purple, black and white with splashes of pewter grey and bright green, generally spooky with a decent amount of spiderwebs and cherry and cherry blossom theming. Also hilariously a lot of these characters are the sweet and smart but mischievous type.

Part 3: Even though Cloe had a good trip away after her bad breakup, Cloe comes back a new woman and decides to make a deal with the devil. She starts hanging out with Nevra. And somehow Meygan became friends with Nevra. They become the new Mean Girls (Dynamite Dolls). Cade wants her ass back after this but she rejects him. We are introduced to Katia, who Cloe and her new trio dresses up to date and destroy Cade. Cloe wanted revenge. So it was like a John Tucker must die type of situation. Cameron tries to take advantage of it and tries to hook up with Cloe but she wasn't having it. Cloe also gets Yasmin, Phoebe and Dana involved in this (Hollywood Style). They dress up Katia and watch from a distance while Katia and Cade goes on a date. Katia puts this dude under her spell, like he falls deeply in love with her and she kinda does too but she breaks up with him in the worse way by purposely getting caught making out with Nevra. Cade almost dies from broken heart syndrome seeing Nevra and Katia together. So it took a very dark turn. He ended up hospitalized and Cloe admitted to what she did. Cade forgives her and says he deserved it after what he's done. He had to get some kind of heart surgery. He pulled through but he could not afford it. So Cloe gathered, Dana, Sasha, Yasmin, Nevra and Jade to compete at a bands face off concert (Live In Concert Dolls, the space angelz) to win money to help him pay for the surgery. And they did and won. Fianna, Meygan and Yasmin ends up joining some type of wiccan cult (Midnight Dance) while Cloe and Dana went to Paris (Ooh La La Dolls) for a school trip. This school is to rich yo. This is where they are introduced to Kumi which leads them up to England (Pretty 'N' Punk and Rock Angelz). Now some stuff happens the same way except they don't have a magazine company. Cloe does meet a guy named Nigel who does her wrong the same way, they also fucked. This is where Cameron and Cloe finally becomes a couple too. The girls become rich and shit. They are doing good for 18 year old and just graduated high school. I feel that while it's a adult book, they still stayed true to Bratz I guess. But it sounds like a messy book. Also Cloe, Jade, Sasha, Yasmin and Roxxi becomes exotic dancers. There is a love triangle between Roxxi, Nevra and Fianna at one point but Roxxi ends up with Nevra. Nevra becomes good.

Too tired to do anything, too bored to rest. Lets post about past and future projects shall we!

So the two Bratz sent by @musicalmeowsandcandiedlemons have their bodies getting bleachment on my windowsill and I began head prep to make them custom. I’m always surprised at the tenacity of bratz face paint, you can really scrub, you can scratch away stray glitter etc without risking damage to the decals. Tough dolls where age damage is only an issue with regards to the Sasha bodies where the vinyl limbs discolours at a different rate to the torso. I supect quite a few doll lines from recent times won’t hold up nearly as well.

You’ll note that Tokyo Jade has a parting (that I unthatched). This is a doll who was designed with an untricate updo and microbraids that don’t lend themselves to brushing too well (always pull the microbraids into an elastic before brushing a doll with them, folks!) and they still put thought into what the doll would look like when actually played with! Who ever did the hair at MGA pre-2007 ish was brilliant.

I have a Tokyo Jade already called Rain (a nod to serial experiements Lain); what I don't have, and probably never will, is the ultra rare Space Angelz Jade who is built on the same base. That said, I lucked into a Space Angelz Nevra and still can’t believe that happened!

So I cut out the brown hair and pulled out the brown braids by grabbing and curling with needle nose pliers (like Tiffy does for plastic ties) and gently undid the blue braids. I’m leaving in the dark blue hair as I’m not making a Space Angelz dupe but a Space Angels inspo.

My crew is redressed Nevra Jewel, Sasha Tangerine, OOAK Sasha Mandarine, replaced bangs repainted lips Cloe Blossom and rerooted bangs WIP Dana Danni, maybe one day a Yasmin... and oh dear, this is becoming the story of a dream project that got abandoned maybe a decade ago. I used up the last of my stash of that shade of purple and it went out of stock, ebay uk switched to global shipping and that was that. Bases and supplies for the project weren’t available and I stopped working on Bratz, even for myself. The company’s attitude had soured on me, the fandom was a mixed crowd of either amazing people or really awful. I love my collection but I gave up on “the hunt”, and the will to customize. I did a few commissions but the spark wasn’t rekindled until I just spontaneously gothified a few bratz in KonMari-d pile earlier in 2019.

Half finished Danni and prepped Jade are sat on my desk staring at me and I’m not sure how to feel. Soldier on, work on these hard heads that won’t mean a thing to anyone but me or leave well alone, concentrate on decluttering. I’m going to chew on it for a while. Gotta find that lost heating pad before I break my needles on this and get a few sales under my belt before getting hair supplies LOL.

How I Found Metal:

(Note, the earlier years might not be accurate, I’m just doing my best to remember.)

It all started with Flyleaf and Paramore. And perhaps Bratz Rock Angelz also influenced me, as well as Aly and AJ’s “Chemicals React”, but they didn’t push me to look for rock music. It wasn’t until Flyleaf and Paramore came along that I ended up taking an interest in the genre.

Back then, I was around eight or nine years old, and a relative of mine constantly spent their time on the laptop listening to rock music, which at first I made fun of, because I was a child and didn’t really know any better.

And the music videos I would see frightened me, because of how intense and strange they looked.

But after some time, I ended up spying on what exactly the type of music they were listening to, and the most listened to bands were Paramore and Flyleaf. I first heard Paramore when I heard their song “Decode”, and Flyleaf’s song “All Around me”, and then “Missing”.

I ended up becoming interested in them, although at the time, I was very, very secretive of openly liking them, because I was afraid of being seen as bad because of it. Because black people didn’t listen to rock music, according to ignorant people.

Around that time as well, I was looking up YouTube videos about stick fighting, and one video, which was very fuzzy and hard to hear, as was typical of YouTube videos back in the early 2000s, had the song “Bring Me To Life”, by Evanescence, and it ended up becoming hypnotized by the introduction, and that is when I ended up liking rock music.

And throughout the years, I ended up collecting Paramore’s Riot and Brand New Eyes albums, the first Flyleaf album, and the second album called Memento Mori.

Along the way, I also ended up discovering a dark wave, electronic-rock band called The Birthday Massacre, which changed my life… very much… They were a band that sounded like no other band. They were dark, yet light and whimsical in a very twisted and gothic way.

I was definitely looking for more bands that sounded much darker, and more intense than Paramore and Flyleaf. Dark like The Birthday Massacre, but much more than that as well.

And then I collected the 2011 Evanescence album, along with the first one sometime later. And despite being criticized, and having my Evanescence album being called “crazy” by my parent, I kept listening to it.

And I believe, around 2011 or 2012, I decided to look up more music for myself, because I wanted to discover new music, and was hungry for it. Specifically rock music, but just any kind of music that sounded like rock… and then I ended up clicking on a video that was about a list of top (*insert number here*) rock/metal bands… and that’s when my life changed.

UnSun. A polish gothic metal and industrial metal band that sounded like something out of an otherworldly steampunk fantasy world with quirky sounds. The first time I listened to the samples on Itunes, I was a bit weirded out by the fact that they sounded kind of outlandish to me, so I stopped listening. But after coming back to them, their sound grew on me, and it ended up giving me very high expectations about any other bands that I’d end up discovering.

And every time I listened to this band on YouTube, I’d get goosebumps. I listened to them so much that I felt like I ran the words off. My most favorite album ended up being Clinic For Dolls, and my most favorite songs became “Not Enough”, and “Home”. I love all of the songs, especially “Time”, which is a very beautiful song, but I love those two the most, and “Home” is especially a song that I still hold up to this day, because the sound is like no other…

There’s also their first album, The End of Life, which is absolutely love!!! My favorite songs are “The Other Side”, “Bring Me To Heaven”, “Blinded by Hatred”, “Lost Innocence”, “Indifference”, “Whispers”, “Closer to Death”, and “On The Edge”.

I personally think everyone should listen to “The Other Side”, because it will definitely give you an idea of how the band sounds, and because it’s just awesome, as well as the polish version of “On The Edge”, which is still on YouTube to this day… and also this remix that someone made of the song “Home”. I love that remix.

The first music video I ever saw from them was “Whispers”, and then “Home”. Those are also the only two music videos that they have.

Along the way, I discovered more bands, such as Straight Line Stitch, Domina Noctis, Elysion, Sirenia, Echoes of Eternity, Amaran, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Leaves’s Eyes, and Cradle of Filth. Specifically “Nymphetamine Fix”, which I felt a bit weirded out by at first, but it also grew on me…

I continued searching for more and more bands, not knowing most of the bands I were focused on were metal. I just wanted to find bands that sounded so much like either The Birthday Massacre or UnSun… I was just obsessed, but no other band sounded as beautiful as these two did.

At the time, I didn’t know what genres of metal there were, but I specifically became obsessed with symphonic metal, because of how otherworldly yet dark it sounded. I also adored gothic metal, but I was specifically focused on symphonic metal.

I also found out about Slipknot through my relative by spotting one of their albums in his room called All Hope Is Gone. So I looked them up, and I especially liked the song “Surfacing”, because it sounded very dark and aggressive. At the time, I was trying too hard to be different because I wanted to feel cool. Though I eventually stopped listening for a while, as I did with other bands. Metal and Rock

I also found this band called Kittie, and I really liked the album “Spit”, specifically Brackish and Raven, as well as Charlotte.

I also found Otep. And my favorite song by them now, as of 2019, is “Sacrilege”. The fucking intro is just…. UUGHH!!! 💕💕💕

Throughout the years, I didn’t really consider myself a metalhead, because I felt like I didn’t really have the look, nor the mindset to be one, and because I listened to more artists who weren’t metal than artists who were at the time, so I felt as though I didn’t exactly qualify at all.

I also stopped listening to rock for a while as well.

But years later, I came back to The Birthday Massacre because that’s my baby… and also UnSun… because that’s also my baby… 💕💕💕

And I also started discovering more bands around 2014… specifically In This Moment, which I discovered after someone told me that UnSun reminded them of that, so I decided to look it up. And my favorite songs became “Whore”, and “Blood”.

And then there was BABYMETAL…

And then there was Lacuna Coil… omfg… I adored “Trip the Darkness”, and “Give Me Something More”, but then after their most recent album Black Anima came out… it was those two, PLUS “Reckless”, “Black Anima”, “Layers of Time”, which I personally love so much, “Save Me”, “Black Dried Up Heart”, “Swords of Anger”, and “Veneficium”.

I also love the song “Downfall” on their Delirium album.

I also ended up LOVING “Burn”, “Adrenalize”, and “Big Bad Wolf” by In This Moment, as well as “Fly Like and Eagle”.

I also came right back to listening to Slipknot, specifically the 1999 album called “Slipknot”, and I realized that I really like this band, because I ended up liking other songs besides just Surfacing and Spit It Out (hyper version). I also loved “Eyeless”, “Tattered and Torn”, “Diluted”, and “Prosthetics”. And on their 2014 album, I love “Killpop”, and “Lech”.

And then I came back to Kittie… and I ended up loving the 2018 “Origins/Evolutions” live album, and my favorite songs there are “Spit”, “Burning Bridges”, “Charlotte”, “Brackish”, and “Cut Throat”. I feel like the live versions of the songs sound way better than how they do on the albums.

And then I eventually discovered Spiritbox after seeing an ad for it on Facebook where there was a tiny snippet of “Holy Roller”, and I decided to listen to it, and it blew my mind. As did the version featuring Ryo Kinoshita.

And then the album Eternal Blue, which I now listen to very religiously, became my favorite album from them. Though I also love “Perennial” and “Belcarra”, and I severely love “Blessed Be”.

And after a while, I eventually decided to call myself a metalhead, because I realized that being a metalhead is about the music, not about how you look. And although I do love looking like a gothic demon with black “blood” (aka makeup) running down my face every now and then, I believe that the music, and how it makes you feel, is much more important than what’s on the surface. You can be a metalhead and look nothing like one.

I will definitely say that my favorite metal genres will always be symphonic and gothic metal. I do love other metal genres as well, but these two genres are my most favorite.
