happiny/chansey/blissey review? (what do you think they look like? i think chansey looks like an axolotl)
Tumblr media
Happiny is one of those baby Pokemon that just kind of... exist. It's got one or two little conceptual things going on with it to play into the egg theme—namely, it kind of looks like a boiled egg in a cup—but I don't really feel like it adds a ton to this line, especially when Blissey exists.
That said, Happiny isn't terrible or anything. It's at least visually distinct from the rest of the line, sporting a ponytail, blush cheeks, and a wrap-around pouch. I also think that it's kind of cute that it carries the oval stone it needs for evolution around because it thinks its an egg, even if it's a bit weird that a baby Pokemon would already be displaying broody behaviors.
Tumblr media
However, I don't like the pouch that much, mostly because it sticks out from the body in a weird way that makes it look like it's wearing pants or something. I get the egg cup idea, but it doesn't quite work biologically. It's the one part of the design that really throws it for me. It's also strangely complex for a baby Pokemon—maybe if it had less hair or something.
Tumblr media
On the plus side, the Happiny design we got is still a massive improvement over its beta design, which has a lot of bizarre elements like two egg pouches (shouldn't it have less instead of more) and a heart on its head that only looks like a heart and absolutely nothing else at all, no siree. I do kind of like how it keeps Chansey's frills and makes them bigger, and the face was a bit cuter, but nothing else about this design was working.
Tumblr media
Chansey itself, however, is pretty decent. The idea of a Pokemon carrying around eggs to help cheer up other Pokemon is pretty sweet, and it carrying an egg in its pouch feels fairly natural, even though pouches and eggs usually don't go together.
The other thing I like about Chansey is that it has a tail. It's a minor thing, but I like that unexpected anatomical detail—makes it feel a bit more like a living creature. It helps that the tail shape is mimicked by some "hair" on the head that looks a bit like axolotl gills or something. Granted, it's a bit weird that it has no tail, gains a tail, and then looses it again (Blissey loosing the tail is justified because it becomes more egg-like as it evolves, but Happiny not having a tail is a bit odder), but either way, it's fun.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, Chansey's one of those Pokemon who's design has shifted over the years, and not in a good way. The above RB art shows it with A) more frills, which I like a lot, and B) a very different face. It's kind of a subtle change, but modern Chansey having a chin, smaller eyes, and a bigger mouth is kind off off-putting in a way. It's just a smidge too much detail, given the lack of definition anywhere else in the design.
Tumblr media
I think I might be one of the few people out there that prefers Blissey to Chansey. Like I said, I like Chansey's tail and it's fine conceptually, but I don't know, something about Blissey's design feels a bit better. It might be that the colors are better (more white in the design is contrasted with a much bolder pink), but I also like the additions of a color split halfway down the body—basically making it an inverse of its egg pouch.
I also like how it has the little feathery accents, which basically serve as an extension of Blissey's frills. These also come together to look very vaguely like a nurses' uniform, which is a nice detail conceptually, given that they often are used in Pokemon centers and their whole thing, aside from the egg, is caring for others.
Also, Blissey's face is a bit less uncanny, so that helps.
Tumblr media
There's also beta Blissey, which was orange(?) and had a more distinct apron, as well as keeping the tail. I do like the head frills on this design a bit more, but the apron shape is weird (the pouch is really far up, and the deep cute makes it look like it's not wearing a "shirt"), those frills on the side don't really look like frills at all, and the oval shape is odd as it makes it less egg-like. The design we got is a much better, cleaned-up version of this.
Tumblr media
Overall, I'm not a big fan of Happiny, but Chansey is a fun concept and Blissey does a good job expanding on it both visually and thematically. Good stuff.

Since you mentioned L liking Pokémon in the Matsuda Interview, what do you think L's Pokémon team would look like if he were a trainer/gym leader? Also if the Death Note cast were gym leaders, what types do you think they would specialize in? I'm tempted to say L is Dark, Light is Dragon (Kira is Poison?), Misa is Fairy, and Matsuda is Normal, but idk.
-🎲
Pokémon! ╾ Task Force
🎲 anon... ily/p. this took a while cause I wanted to draw them with their Pokémon. but good news is..
INCLUDES ART!!
 ★━━─・‥…━━━☆
L 🍰
TYPE SPECIALISATION
hate to say it because I want to give him one of my favourite types (dark, dragon, water, ice) but he's a fairy type. he's a fairy type all the way. he loves how pink and fluffy and sweet-like they are.
MAIN: Fairy
SUPPLEMENTAL: Psychic, Grass, Ghost
TEAM
Gardevoir: Psychic / Fairy
Gardevoir form strong bonds with their Trainer and will do anything to protect them. L needs someone to look after him. In addition, Psychic types are generally known for their intelligence, and Gardevoir is a strong Pokémon. A good choice all around!
Mimikyu: Ghost / Fairy
It's kind of like an adorable toy! L is oddly fond of such things because they remind him of childhood, which he never really had. Also it likes the dark and wears a mask to hide from the world, so that's basically like L pftahhahjhahassja
Milcery: Fairy
This is a floating blob of cream! Can you imagine a more delicious wonderful Pokémon?! Milcery also brings good luck to bakeries, which L likes because he wants the places he likes to prosper. In addition, it evolves into Alcremie, which gives its Trainer sweets! L can't wait.
Shiinotic: Grass / Fairy
This Pokémon send people to sleep, which L is very grateful for as it helps override his insomnia. It also makes defeating other Pokémon easy, and L's lazy in ways like these. He likes to get fights over with quickly. I don't think he joins tournaments or anything.
Swirlix: Fairy
L wanted to catch this Pokémon because it smells and looks like cotton candy. Unfortunately, all it does is make him hungry, and Swirlix itself also likes eating lots of sweets... However, L forms strong bonds with all his Pokémon so he'd just buy more sweets lmao.
Clefairy: Fairy
Clefairy is the epitome of a Fairy type! Pink, cute and caring. It's also popular but hard to find, which makes L pretty proud of himself. But the real reason he caught it was because he was sick and thought it was an escaped Chansey...
Tumblr media
LIGHT 🖋️
TYPE SPECIALISATION
I thought Light's was easy, then I started thinking and I was tossing up between adding Dragon, Dark or Psychic. HAHSJHAHA your Poison note was my favourite, it suits. Some of these Pokémon are more Light-y, some are more Kira-y.
MAIN: Fire
SUPPLEMENTAL: Poison, Steel, Fighting
TEAM
Salazzle: Poison / Fire
This uses poisonous gas to manipulate people into being its slaves... Replace poisonous gas with poisonous words and that sounds familiar. Plus, Light probably liked the look in its eyes HDHAHDHDH
Arcanine: Fire
A strong, loyal and all around awesome fire Pokémon. Arcanine is also often used by Officer Jenny as a police dog, and I think Light would subconsciously align himself with the law by doing this, because he sees himself as law and justice.
Combusken: Fire / Fighting
Light got this guy as a Torchic, for his starter Pokémon, and is actually fond of it. It's his family. I think he'd really like chickens for some reason, maybe cause of the chicken and egg thing... Anyway, he likes how it uses its legs to fight (maybe he's associating it with someone...).
Iron Moth: Fire / Poison
Even though it's more space and UFO-ish, there's something about it matching records in an old book and observing humanity that reminds me of a Shinigami. So I thought this Pokémon would be oddly fitting for Light, thought I can't imagine how he caught it considering “no records exist of this species being caught”...
Heatran: Fire / Steel
IT LIVES IN A VOLCANO!! Light was definitely super into volcanoes as a kid (couldn't be me lol) so he'd probably make it his personal mission to catch and befriend one of these guys. They're magma and can climb on ceilings and walls.. pretty cool hehe
Sneasler: Fighting / Poison
It's kind of like an evil-looking Meowth, huh? It's poisonous and strong and likes to live alone. Light can respect that (but at the same time went to capture one... not very Loner of him). He would also like mountains.
I got lazy and only did flats, but there's a small art thing for the other characters at the end
Tumblr media
MISA 💝
TYPE SPECIALISATION
Fairy would have worked, but I think Misa would go with the basic cute Pokémon, plus a couple of dark ones. like in canon: she's not goth (I believe that's the style) but sometimes dresses like it.
MAIN: Normal
SUPPLEMENTAL: Electric, Flying, Dark
TEAM
Furret: Normal
I think one of Misa's main criteria when catching a Pokémon is cuteness. They have Pokémon fashion shows, iirc, which would be Misa's thing. Anyway, this is a cute, nimble Pokémon and it can move through small spaces, which is surprisingly useful for Misa.
Oricorio (Pom-Pom): Electric / Flying
I have an Oricorio card and it's surprisingly strong!! It looks cute and has like 60HP but can deal 100 damage which seems Misa-ish. She also loves that this type's feathers match her hair. And the bird thing matches with Light's chicken thing.
Eevee: Normal
do I need to explain this...
brain says yes I do. she's a little bit basic when it comes to liking cute Pokémon, so Eevee was a must! She hopes it evolves into a Sylveon, but it's probably gonna become a Jolteon lmao
Ditto: Normal
It's cute and versatile! Though it has a really bad sense of humour and laughs at lots of things.. I think Misa would default to having it as a Stufful. I was going to give her a Stufful actually but it was the wrong type djjdjf.
Morpeko: Electric / Dark
Misa thinks this thing is adorable and appreciates that it has a darker side. She also finds it super cute when it's eating, which is lucky, considering its reaction to hunger. That said, she kind of loves how troublesome it is when it's hungry...
Bombirdier: Flying / Dark
Misa thinks this is a very elegant Pokémon, and caught it expecting refinement. However, it just drops things everywhere... Things that make loud noises... Misa jumps every time.
MATSUDA 🦆
TYPE SPECIALISATION
His was a little funny to figure out. Oddly enough, I really don't think he'd be normal, so I went full nature version. Water and earth and all. Honestly he probably catches Pokémon regardless of type, just tends to hang out in these types' habitats more.
MAIN: Water
SUPPLEMENTAL: Grass, Rock, Bug
TEAM:
Wartortle: Water
Because of course he picked Squirtle for his starter Pokémon (affectionately). Matsu loves this fella and appreciates its much-needed wisdom. Apparently Wartortle's very old. I don't know how Pokémon time works, but I feel like Matsu would love old things, animals, people...
Swadloon: Bug / Grass
This is in my opinion one of the funniest and cutest looking Pokémon ever and something about it was so Matsuda-ish. He would also love that it helps the ecosystem, and though he felt bad about taming it he really wanted to be friends!!
Magikarp: Water
Matsuda caught one of these guys because L always said they reminded him of Matsuda. He's a little sad that L sees him as “the most pathetic useless Pokémon ever” but at least it's pretty darn cute and has lots of potential (evolution wise), right?
Omanyte: Rock / Water
It's been restored from an ancient species, and Matsuda probably has an interest in archaeology or something so he finds that cool. Plus, they're being released into the wild too much and becoming a problem. He thinks they're kinda like cute squids.
Shuckle: Bug / Rock
SHUCKLE!!! There's something inexplicable about this Pokémon. All it really does is protect itself and hide under a rock, but there's a je ne sais quoi about it. Matsuda is a big fan. It also likes berries and looks a little like a dinosaur.
Lombre: Water / Grass
A nocturnal Pokémon that sleeps on river grass. To be honest, Matsuda probably caught it by accident (if anyone can do that, Matsuda can) one day and just shrugged, said "new friend!" and moved right on.
RIE 🥀
mwahaha or something.
TYPE SPECIALISATION
I kept changing her types because the first batch the Pokémon didn't fit and the second batch were too similar to L and Misa. I kept Psychic and Dragon the whole way through, which is why the first four only have one type.
MAIN: Psychic
SUPPLEMENTAL: Dragon, Ice, Bug
TEAM
Dragonair: Dragon
An angelic and peaceful Pokémon that can change the weather! Plus, Dragonair seems very majestic and beautiful. Rie caught it as a Dratini and this is the Pokémon that has been with her the longest, apart from her starter Pokémon of course.
Espeon: Psychic
Rie loves Espeon a lot and was surprised when her Eevee didn't evolve to Sylveon! She probably prefers Espeon for its intelligence and ability to predict other Pokémon. Rie calls it a Poké-Pyschologist even though it deduces actions by physical matters, not psychological.
Goodra: Dragon
It loves the rain and tbh who doesn't? Rie is more the type to sit inside with a warm drink and look out the windows than stand in the rain, though. She also finds Goodra cute and calm, though it does go to 100% when angry... Huh, kinda Rie-ish.
Alakazam: Psychic
Intelligence is a quality Rie needs in her life, or she gets incredibly bored. So of course a Pokémon that remembers everything is on her wavelength. Plus, it looks like it knows magic tricks. (It doesn't. It's close to hitting Rie the next time she asks how to cheat better at cards.)
Snom: Ice / Bug
I discovered this Pokémon while scrolling through the Pokédex for this project and it's my favourite now, so I had to give it to my favourite OC. Rie loves the snow and ice, more than the rain, and this cute little blue porcupine-y thing is “just so perfect.”
Rabsca: Bug / Psychic
She doesn't talk about it because it makes working in a male-dominated field harder, but Rie really wants to be a mother. And canonically, this Pokémon is always caring for an infant! Rie also likes how colourful (poisonous even) and dignified it looks.
(bonus) Kyurem: Dragon / Ice
It's a bonus because Rie wouldn't have it on her team, but if she were to catch a legendary it'd be this guy. Fits with her types and is waiting for a Trainer to fill it with “truth and ideals,” according to the official Pokédex.

I saw the ship dialogue prompt and I came to request for Lost Sliver with numbers 9. and 20. Maybe reader is comforting Lost sliver about something.
9) "You look sad".
20) "I could just use a hug."
........
"Nice job, Chansey. I appreciate your help." Smiling, you watched as the normal-type Pokémon plastered the final bandaid onto Gold's torso, covering the cut there.
While she tended to the numerous smaller injuries to his body, you focused on bandaging his limbs, making sure they were wrapped snuggly into stumps.
Of course, you weren't worried about him getting any infection since, well..he was dead. He couldn't catch the common cold even if he tried.
But you knew that he's been insecure about leaking blood everywhere and grossing out everyone he met, so you decided to do something about it and let him into one of your clinical rooms at the Pokémon Center.
Being a nurse who helped patients with traumatic injuries had its perks, as you knew exactly how to help your boyfriend.
However, it was only now that he decided to trust you enough to do this. He used to flinch at being touched before, and so for him to approach you and finally agree to this brought you relief.
He allowed you pull off his hat, jacket, and shirt, leaving just his shorts on before you got to work patching him up. You could see how flustered he was, cheeks turning pink despite his expression remaining blank. But he didn't complain once, simply nodding when you asked if he was okay so far.
However, after giving Chansey a treat for her good work before sending her out of the room, you were confused when Gold seemed...even sadder than before.
He didn't look happy in the slightest, staring at his covered wounds with a frown.
"What's wrong, love? You look sad." You remarked, gently running your fingers through his hair. When he didn't answer you, worries began clouding your mind. "If you need anything else..please tell me. I'm here to help you, no matter what."
"I feel...fine, but...." He stopped, looking down at the bandages on where his legs would've been. "I....I could just use a hug. But I know I look...d-disgusting...so.." His breath hitched, tears of blood leaking from his eye sockets as he began regretting such a stupid request. "Forget it...I-I don't need anything else.."
Your heart broke at the fact he thought that about himself. But then again...this was probably the first time he was seeing himself after his death on that mountain. He had been stuck in those same clothes for years until you came along.
Now with most of them off, it reminded him that he's just a limbless frostbit corpse...and always will be.
How were you not grossed out?
"Gold..." Frowning slightly, you sat beside him and pulled him into a hug, feeling him shake with quiet sobs. His skin was freezing cold, but you did your best to keep him warm. "You don't look disgusting to me at all."
"..I-I don't..?"
"No, I've seen lots of stuff in my career so..this doesn't bother me at all." You carded a hand through his hair. "I'm just glad you trusted me, sweetheart."
Hearing you call him that left Beautiflies in his stomach. No matter if you said it once, or a million times..that will never fail to make him flushed.
It didn't help matters when you kissed the top of his head, although he eventually relaxed in your arms, head against your chest as he listened to your heartbeat. And he closed his eyes, for once not feeling anymore pain.
He thought he was beyond help, but you proved him wrong.

thinking about trolls pokemon au for the past few days...of course i gotta think of pokemon teams for whatever thing im into atm
Tumblr media
[Poppy]
I'm thinking her dad is the head of the town she lives in as well as the gym leader of it. She looooves pokemon so much and has lived a pretty carefree life up until Peppy wants her to take over the gym and leadership of the village. She ends up going on a journey to get stronger/see the world before she fully replaces her dads positions.
Tumblr media
Skitty
Probably a pokemon that was caught by Viva and later given to Poppy before Viva left on her own journey to become champion. I can see Poppy babying it a lot, causing it to not evolve for awhile because how lax life is in the village. Also picking this because of Perky (Poppys pet from Trollstopia) and because she also really loved the Swampkins in TBGO.
Tumblr media
Audino
It's a kind pokemon that can understand what other people/pokemon are feeling so I think it'd be a good match for Poppy whos pretty kind-hearted and empathetic.
Tumblr media
Sylveon
Catches it as an Eevee and it later evolves due to the friendship that formers between it and Poppy!
Tumblr media
Tinkatink
Poppy catches it immediately due to it being a small, cute, pink thing. Also that's a BABY!!! Picking this one for Poppy because of how similar it looks to her trollself as well as how daring Tinkaton is even if it's adorable and short.
Tumblr media
Jigglypuff
Both Poppy and Jigglypuff are cute pink thangs that like to sing. I also feel like Poppy could be one of the few that can handle it's lullabies (maybe by putting gumdrops in her ears) and would do duets with it for fun.
Tumblr media
Chansey
Both are willing to help others in need--it's a good fit for Poppy!

Tumblr media
I’ll do a redraw of the group photo, but I thought it’d be fun to line them all up by height, even if some aren’t proportioned great to be scaled down *cough Chandlo*. I think I’ll take requests just for main cast Bugsnax stuff for a little while, so please feel free to check in!
Finally, design notes under the cut for all the Grumpuses, because I had a lot of fun and I’m gonna draw a lot more
Wambus: Farmer so nice you draw him twice-- With Wambus I knew I wanted to make him beefy, and while I’m not quite happy with how thick his legs are, I think he turned out nice. I tried a different fur color pattern than I’d tried before, and colored him like a dog. Similarly to some of the other Grumpuses feeling like they’d have more personality added with a tail, I gave him one! He’s got scars here and there from working in the fields all these years.
Shelda: Huge fan of how Shelda turned out, I love how she looks like a wet squirrel and really sticks out from the rest of the Grumpuses in terms of body types, just like in the game. Tried to hide flowers in the gradient on her tail, legs, and arms. Tried to go for an ‘earring’ kind of feel to the ends of her flower crown. Also, unlike all the other grumps, she doesn’t have any eyebrow lines.
Wiggle: Probably the one I had the most fun drawing. I love her crooked teeth and painted nails. The green from her nose just stuck out too much, and it didn’t feel like I could fit it into the patterns on her fur, so I painted her nails instead. Stars in her gradient because she’s my star. She’s meant to look curvy, but those are not boobs PLEASE. Tiny little tail, like a bear’s.
Lizbert: Took a while to figure out how to pose her, but matching her up with Eggabell would be cute, so. Covered in heroic scars from grand adventures. I tried to work patterns into her gradient that looked like a treasure map’s dashed lines and x’s, but it ended up not looking all that great. Similarly to Wambus, I gave her fur a pattern like a dog’s. Also, chipped tooth from kissing eggs too hard.
Snorpy: I’d say he was the hardest for me to get a grasp on designing. Had NO idea where I wanted to go with him, but I knew I didn’t want him to be particularly fluffy. After I was done with his body, he felt like he was missing something, so I gave him his tail, and made it rounded like his hair. My idea is that it’s prehensile and it frees up his hands for more chart writing. Didn’t have any good ideas for cute patterns to put on him to be honest, but I was very happy when I got the idea for giving him ‘stubble’.
Triffany: One of my favorite designs. She reminds me of a stegosaurus or something. Got pawprints in her gradient, to symbolize her adventures, or perhaps ancient Grumpus cave paintings? Gave her freckles too, to make the pawprints not stand out quite as much at a first glance. The lighter markings on the bottom of her hands weren’t planned, but I thought her hands looked a bit plain even with her paw pads, and I didn’t want to put another dark gradient there and recycle ideas I’d done before. Snuck in more of her nose color with the claw slits(?) on her feet. I don’t know if it’s noticeable, but I put gray streaks in her hair.
Filbo: He kickstarted this blame him. He’s a teensy bit rough, but he’s still my absolute favorite I drew. He’s clumsy, so he gets scars from all of his many spills, and lots of personalized bandaids from Eggabell. I couldn’t not give him big obnoxious freckles.
Eggabell: I tried to make her less pink but I just kept thinking about how she looked like Chansey or Audino and I leaned into it. She was pretty hard for me too, since I wasn’t sure just how hard into the whole egg shape I wanted to lean. Of course, she gets egg shaped spots.
Chandlo: LOVED drawing Chandlo. His arms were a challenge, but they look like they’ve got the power to dunk and hold his boyfriend. Gave him a lighter stomach to emphasize how ripped he is. His hair coming out of his hat wasn’t there at first, but he needed just a bit more something. He’s got simple stripes, because I started thinking of sports and then I thought of Tony the Tiger...
Beffica: I liked doing the details on her face the most. It was here that I decided to do more than just a gradient like I did on Filbo. Stuck hearts on her, when I draw her again I’ll definitely give her more. I’ll also make her front teeth shorter, they almost look like they’re a similar length to Chandlo’s.
Snorpy: Another problem child with their design. I knew I wanted their arms to be longer than their body/legs, and that was easy enough, but when it came to patterns I was stumped. The normal rounded tail that I gave Snorpy didn’t look quite right, and didn’t feel very ‘Floofty’. The tradeoff is now it doesn’t look too convenient if their tail was prehensile. I like what I did with their hair, it wasn’t intentional, but it almost looks like they have a sidecut. Like one part of their head ‘shaved’.
Cromdo: I meant for his ‘hair’ to just be hair, but when I properly attached it to his head like hair would be, it looked strange. And I really liked how the hair looked, so I erased where I was attaching it to his head and realized it looked a lot like an axolotl’s gills. So I leaned into it. Does Cromdo have gills? Probably not, but they’re pretty neat. Like with Wiggle, I was having trouble sneaking more of the blue from his nose into his design, but I don’t feel like Cromdo’s the type to paint his nails, and I didn’t give him paw pads, so I had to improvise. Blue on his hair and the little diamonds on his leg. Maybe he was a gambler. Gramble: FRECKLY STRAWBERRY I didn’t continue the trend of coloring their mouths like their nose/pawpads since not every Grumpus had their mouth open, but I think Snorpy, Floofty, Cromdo, Wambus and Wiggle have similar mouth coloring. Now that I look at it, he’s the only one I gave a darker colored stomach to, even though it’s not super noticeable under his sweater.

Yooo, i’ve secured the footage of the first actual round of the contest! (Again, huuuuge thanks @appeallove )
Also, i have NO IDEA what time it is right now, i sort of completely passed out right after it, it was so exhausting lol! I didn’t see my name yet in the next bracket and i didn’t check for anything else, so i don’t even know if i won! (If i did, i hope i didn’t miss my next performance, i’ll go run and check right after this post hehe)
BY THE WAY, also an incredible huge amazing THANK YOU to Daisy, who was an incredible opponent! Thanks for doing this with me! (idk if you have a rotumblr, actually, but you said i should just ping @battlelegendsredandblue so i’ll do that)
[Another recording from the livestream of the Sootopolis Circuit:
Tix enters the stage, their outfit changed just a bit from the qualifiers performance. They are wearing a black tanktop now, with a design that reminds of netting made of silver string. The “net” is shining and glittering. Behind them, a Koffing is floating. It has been decorated with similar silver fabric strings, which make it look like disco ball. In addition, strange devices are mounted on most of its craters. A large moustache is adorning its face, which makes the whole thing look rather goofy.
“HEEEEY SOOTOPOLIS!!! COLOURLESS TOXIN IS BACK!!! AND NOW WE GOTTA MAKE A DIFFERENT KIND OF MUSIC BECAUSE OTHERWISE IT GETS BORING RIGH?! SO NOW I HAVE BROUGHT A NEW MEMBER WITH ME! THIS HERE IS COFFEE, THE GUY WHO USUALLY DOES THE PYROTECHNICS BUT HE CAN ALSO PLAY THE SYNTH! BUT ONLY TWO GUYS ON STAGE IS BOOORING! SO WE BROUGHT SOME ASSISTANCE, AND I GOTTA ASK YA LADY! ARE YOU GONNA SING, OR ARE YOU GONNA DANCE?!?!”
The woman can’t help but give a chuckle as she steps onto the stage, Chansey nearby like it’ll step on her toes, but it never does. It makes an excited chirp, as if giving its own answer to the question.
Though Chansey isn’t wearing anything on the theme with the other performers, Daisy certainly is, a pink jacket with darker pink stripes, not to mention the ascot like scarf, matching the tendrils on Chansey’s own head. Pockets mimicking its pouch on her shorts.
“Why not both?” She answers, before commanding, “Seych, Sing!”
The move directly hits the floating Koffing, who sinks a bit towards the floor, though his eyes stay open.
“WHOA GIRL!” Tix has been stopped in their energetic track. “The peeps don’t even know what we’re playing yet! But I guess since Coffee needs a moment, I can tell you!”
They have now regained their excitement and turn towards the audience. “THIS IS OUR INTERPRETATION OF GYM LEADER ROXIES SONG “THE SKIES ARE READ BECAUSE THE CLOUDS ARE MADE OF NAPALM!!!”
They strum the guitar with a loud chord, but then play a much quieter, but fast and complicated melody. “IF YOU’RE GOOD; WE NEED SOME HEEEAT! FLAMETHROWER!!”
Coffee seems to have been energised by the music again, begins floating upwards again and inhales a deep breath. At the same time, tiny puffs of smoke leave some of his craters, which results in two large speakers releasing synthetic music. The camera zooms in, to make the delicate workings visible, apparently is this strange construction connected to a synthesizer. Coffee now releases a stream of hot flames towards Chansey
“Sorry! I’m just excited!” Daisy grins. The atmosphere seems way different than what she’s used to. She seems about as excited as the audience with each step she takes, making them quickly as she attempts to keep up with the melody. More used to softer music for sure, but she keeps herself on her toes.
As flames dance around Chansey, it holds onto its egg, twirling lightly to keep it safe. In turn, with the Soft-Boiled move, it looks like it’s ballerina-spun right out of the danger. It gives a soft sigh of relief before giving a cute look of Charm, making sure it looks straight at the audience. If the pout could talk it’d probably say “Look how close that was, won’t you?”
Daisy isn’t done yet though with her movements, making sure her footing is steady, but also her arms reaching high. It may be a slow dance by the music’s standards, but she does a little hop to keep on the beat as she approaches Tix and back again.
“WHOAHO!! You know how to move your feet! But I think we need a bit more atmosphere! Coffee, gimme a solo and set up something, you know what to do!”
With that, the Koffing lets his synthetic music fade into nothingness, when he suddenly drops to the ground and the crowd lets out a shocked gasp. Then, the poison type starts rolling around the stage, carefully watching Chanseys and Daisys dancemoves, not to hinder them. It seems that Coffee is actually trying to match their moves. At the same time, the few geysers that do not have metallic rings attached spew out a beautifully glittering mist, through which the other contestants dance.
Tix has also started making a few moves, mostly keeping it to the side of the stage though, as to not obstruct their opponents dance. They have now pressed a button on the guitar which added a strange crackling to the sound that reminds a little bit of burning wood. The guitarist now also started singing, or rather growling some almost unintelligible vocals, not unlike the guttural sounds their Toxicroak made during the qualifiers.
Daisy watches the little guy roll around a bit, clapping her hands for him. She spins a few times while doing so.
“We’ll have to give pointers afterwards!” The performance is seconds away from ending, either by the time or the energy, but it’s mainly the energy. If it wasn’t for the music, one could probably hear their own heart beating in their chest if they didn’t feel it.
Chansey picks up on the singing, despite the guttural sounds, it waddles up to them with a smile. Then it follows them in Singing, trying to hit lower notes to match, though only gets to a midrange. Regardless if it can hit the pitch or not, its tail wags lightly.
Tix now finishes their solo and singing, taking a deep breath and smiling at Chansey. The round Pokémon dances back towards it’s trainer, taking her hands and the lead, making them both spin in sync with the music that now picks up again and gets even a bit faster than before. Coffee has also begun floating again and is puffing more and more smoke, creating an incredible melody together with the guitar. It seems Daisy and Chansey cannot dance any faster at this point when Tix screams “NOW THE FINALE!” and Coffee starts glowing, his costume reflecting the light all over the stage.
For a single heartbeat, he looks like shining lightbulb. Daisy and Chansey have broken apart and are taking a final stance, when a deafening CRACK and an equally loud chord from Tix’ guitar fill the Arena and Coffee releases a giant fireball from the Explosion-move. All four contestants stand on stage, as if time is standing still, when suddenly, even before the Koffing falls to the ground after the ultimate exhausting move, Chansey cannot hold its pose and trips, falling on its belly. Half the crowd erupts into cheers, the other half lets out another shocked gasp. Both Daisy and Tix run over to help an embarrassed Chansey back on its feet before the footage cuts.]
ooc: I’ve listened mostly to The Enigma TNG  while writing this (and they make incredible music btw), but I think the song played goes more into the direction of thrash, maybe even hardbass or hardcore techno, since it’s only (modified) guitar and synth

Would love to read more Thenamesh Pokémon AU! Liked it very much?
Maybe Gil and Thena fighting against a few poachers to protect the Pokémon Gil rescued? And then some cute fluff in th end? :D
"Good work, buddy," Gil smiled, patting Dragonite's arm as it unloaded another few pokemon rescued from nets and traps. The anxious Oddish and Budew bounced down to the ground and hopped around each other. Gil knelt down to them. "I'm glad you're all safe. We have a few supplies with us, and the Chansey will check you out and make sure you're not hurt, okay?"
The grass pokemon gave him a look before moving as a group towards the friendly seeming pink pokemon waiting for them.
Dragonite leaned down to Gil, booping him with his snoot.
"Of course I am," Gil sighed, scribbling on his tablet about their new head count.
Thena was out there - with Teddiursa - battling.
She had volunteered of course, after hearing that some poachers had escaped them from last month. And they weren't in a position to say no to help from one of the best battlers in the region.
Teddiursa had come simply because he was still too young to be left home alone and too anxious to be left at the ranger centre without her for so long.
Even after being with her for a month, the little mama's-boy still preferred to be attached to her when at all possible. It wasn't so surprising, though--normal type pokemon tended to bond very deeply with their caretakers. And for all she said she discouraged it, he had yet to see Thena leave the house without Teddiursa at least seated in the hood of her coat (if not cradled in her arms like a baby).
Dragonite patted Gil's shoulder with a reassuring smile.
"You're right," Gil blew out an anxious breath, adjusting his hat on his head. "I'm just...being paranoid."
"Hey, boss," another ranger called over to him. "We've got a report of another trap getting set off at the base of the mountain!"
"Dragonite!" Gil responded immediately, climbing onto the dragon type's back and flying off the cliff and towards the mountain base. The caves were deep and extensive, but Thena had offered to keep an eye on the bottom entrance, knowing that it would be the easiest route for them to use. "Please, bud, we've gotta hurry!"
Dragonite took a nosedive, flying down to the valley floor at a dangerous angle of descent. He pulled up at the last possible second, flaring his wings out and looping around, even having to run a little as they landed.
Gil leapt off his back, running into the cave at full speed. "Thena!"
"Ursa!"
Gil's blood ran cold as he saw a very familiar head of ears and a pom-pom tail running out of the cave towards him. He leaned down, receiving the little cub in his arms. "What happened?!"
"T-T-Ted-Teddi--"
"Okay, okay," Gil held up a hand, encouraging Teddiursa to take deep breaths with him. The little bear did his best, filling its tiny lungs and keeping its tears at bay. "Buddy, just look at me. Where is Thena?"
The little cub pokemon began at the beginning as Gil took off running again. It told him all about how Thena was patrolling the caves when the ceiling opened up and nets came down. They got a bunch of the Quagsire in the shallow ponds, as well as Thena.
She had taken Teddiursa out of her hood and pushed him through one of the wider loops of the net, insisting he go and get help instead of being caught with her.
"It's okay," Gil reassured the little guy, who was now fully crying as he recounted the sight of his Mama being dragged away from him by bad guys. And that was overlooking the fact that he had relived the landslide that had separated him from his Ursaring pack in the first place.
"Ursa!"
"I know, I'm worried about her too, bud," Gil patted the little bear's head, snuggled into his vest as he ran. "Don't worry, Mama's gonna be just fine."
"Ted!" the little bear nodded, doing away with his tears with their rescue mission in mind. He looked up at Gil, "Teddiursa?"
Well, no, he didn't have pokemon to battle with. He had very little experience with battling, really, having always known he was going to be a pokemon ranger. It just suited him more to be in pokemon care and conservation as opposed to traditional training.
Thena was made for pokemon battling.
She was so strong, and she bonded so deeply with the pokemon in her care. They were an amazing team. She was smart, resourceful, she knew the ups and downs of every pokemon's type and strengths and weaknesses.
"Teddi," Gil breathed deeply, running through the burn in his lungs. "Does she have Gallade with her?"
Teddiursa's eyes sparked at the name of the pokemon it had quickly come to see as an older brother. "Teddi!"
Gil felt a little reassured by that, at least. Thena's partner pokemon was just as strong and just as temperamental as she was. Even if he was in a pokeball, he would know Thena was in danger and fight to protect her.
"Please!" Gil shouted to a Luxray running on a ridge above them. He raised up his badge, "I need your help! My friend-!"
The electric type looked down at them, eyeing them with its intimidating eyes, black fur bristling.
"She got taken by the poachers!" Gil continued to plead with the wild pokemon, which had at least leapt down to come closer to them. "I have to save her. Just give me a ride--you don't have to stick around to fight them with me."
"Lux!"
Teddiursa laughed with excitement as Gil jumped onto the back of the Gleam Eyes pokemon. Gil put a hand on his vest, inside which Teddiursa was snuggled. It raised a paw, pointing with its claw. "Teddiursa!"
"Thena!"
Thena and Gallade were backed up against a wall, in front of the wild Quagsire, both of them with their fists raised. Of course Thena would fight a pokemon poacher with her bare hands, if need be. She and Gallade were ride or die, and had been since he was a shy little ralts.
"Thena!" Gil called out, hoping to offer his help before she started trying to fight a Golbat with her own fists.
"Who the hell-?!"
Gil jumped off Luxray's back as it slid over to them. It did stick around, for which Gil was thankful. It snapped its teeth and crackled with electricity, making the poachers' Golbat a little more wary of them.
"Teddi!"
Thena's eyes went wide with relief as her little bear leapt from Gil's vest into her arms. She spun him around in her arms, holding his head under her chin with his ears brushing against her cheeks. "Oh, thank Arceus you're okay!"
"Teddiursa!" the little bear nuzzled against her. He looked up at Gallade, "ted?"
"Gallade," the fighting/psychic type patted the little bear's head, congratulating him on the job well done.
"Golbat, get us that cub!"
Oh, that was not how this was going to work. Gil held out a hand in front of Thena and Teddiursa. Gallade bent his taller form over them.
"Luxray, thunder fang 'em!"
Gil really did owe the wild pokemon a debt of gratitude. It had really come to his aid, and now really was battling with him. The lynx pokemon leapt into the air, easily sinking its teeth into the Golbats' wings, surging with electricity and making them plummet to the cave ground.
"Let's get outta here!"
"Paralyze them!" Gil pointed, sending the assisting pokemon after them. Its speed spoke for itself, catching the three male poachers and freezing them on the spot with a painful - but non-lethal - dose of static. It wandered back to him more slowly. Gil removed his hat, bowing his head to the pokemon in respect. "Thank you, for helping me save my family."
Perhaps with a family of its own to care for, the pokemon acknowledged Gil in return, before heading deeper into the cave again.
Gil turned, breathing out a sigh of relief as he pulled Thena and Teddiursa into his embrace. He buried his nose against Thena's sunshine hair. "You're okay."
Gallade patted Gil's shoulder, still holding onto its trainer.
Thena laughed faintly as she tried to pull back, only for Gil to wrap his arms around her waist and press his forehead to hers. She could feel the sweat there, and the brim of his hat getting tipped up against her head. "Gil, it's okay. Everyone's okay."
"Ursa," Teddiursa offered in comfort as well, reaching up from Thena's embrace to pat Gil's cheek with his paw.
"Okay," he sniffed, trying to get a hold of himself. Even with Dragonite having gone back to the other rangers, he still had a job to do. "Okay--you're right, w-we should go."
"Gallade," Thena asked with a frown, "could you carry them back with us?"
"Gal," he nodded, knowing that he was the strongest for the job, even with Gil here now. It walked over to the static-y poachers, loading them both up on one of its shoulders.
Thena leaned down to the huddle of terrified Quagsire, just now removing their flippers(?) from their eyes. "You should head into the sub-basement of the caves until this all blows over. Stick together and be careful."
The amphibious pokemon all nodded to her before scurrying off, their tails dragging on the damp cave floors. Gil reached out for her hand. "Let's go."
She nodded, prepared for him to let go of her hand over the course of the long walk back out of the caves. But he never did. She looked down at their joined hands and then up at him.
Gil could feel her looking at him but didn't let go. If anything, he tightened his fingers around hers. "I'm not letting go...not yet."
Thena looked down at the cave floor, smiling into her coat collar and feeling the weight of Teddiursa in her hood. Her cheeks warmed as he threaded their fingers together. "Okay."
Gallade rolled its eyes at them.

Saeyoung Choi/OC - Bet on Me
this was written for the @nostringsdetached zine back in august 2021. the free zine bundle can be found here.
big, big love and thanks to my art partner bluecat and a belated thank you to the nsd team for having me, they were an absolute pleasure! cheers  💜
word count: 3834
check out my masterpost here
Like all problems, it started with the little things.
It started with Pokemon Go.
It started with Chansey, with its little dancing back and forth motion, taunting as Saki tried to catch it with a dwindling number of pokeballs.
Why was it so hard to catch?
Over the course of a half hour, she saw why this had become a last resort game. Ever since she’d moved in with Saeyoung, going outside had become a bit of a distant memory. Like a twice a month they’re-in-dire-need-of-HBC-and-PhD-Pepper kind of deal, Lately, it’d even been less than that— ever since he’d started visiting Saeran at the hospital, he began doing grocery runs by himself on the way back. She’d protested over that, but he insisted that it was much needed quiet time.
So that left her here, sitting by herself in the bunker in worry and playing a last resort game because she’d already played everything else. Perhaps she should’ve taken up Saeyoung's offer on that fake GPS tool.
“Ai cham,” she grumbled, watching as the pink blob broke a fourth pokeball. She tossed another berry its way. “C’mon, I’ll treat you to something nice. Come to me.”
"What kind of treat?" A pair of arms suddenly draped around her from the back of the couch and she startled, looking up. Golden eyes glittered back, much more amused than she’d seen in a long while. Good. Looks like the visit to Saeran went well. "Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Like what?” Saki shook her head, tongue tied for a moment as she tried to think of an excuse. “Wh-when did you even get in? I didn’t hear the door open.”
“A magician never reveals his secrets.” He pressed a finger to his smiling lips. “Now where's my treat?"
"Not for you." She considered asking about Saeran, before thinking better of it and wiggling her phone in his direction instead. "For her. She just doesn't want to get caught and I'm running out of pokeballs."
Saeyoung blinked at the screen for a moment. She could see the gears turning in that brilliant head of his, that spark in his eyes when presented with a challenge. "If I catch her for you, will you make me a treat?"
"Depends on the treat."
He grinned. "Bibimbap."
Saki sighed, pretending to consider for a moment. She didn't particularly like cooking but Saeyoung loved it when she cooked for him —he claimed food tasted better when it was hers— and it’d been so long since she’d seen him so playful. It wasn’t even in question, really.
“Oh, alright."
"Yay!" He leaned over, pressing his finger to her screen, then swiped. She held her breath as the little red ball wiggled a couple of times before coming to a stop.
Chansey has been caught!
"Whoa, what?" She pointed at the screen, then at him. "How?"
"Magic fingers." He wiggled said fingers at her, laughing. "Bibimbap for dinner tonight?"
"Hold on, that's gotta be a fluke." She pouted. This was the most time she’d spent with him this week, and she’d be damned if she didn’t want at least a little more of it. "I probably made it easier for you to catch. If I threw another ball, I could have caught her too."
"Oh really?" His glasses glinted. Her boyfriend was, all in all, probably the most laid back person she knew. Very few things ruffled his feathers. But after some months of living together, she'd found out that he could be competitive, given the right mood. "So what do you want to do about it?"
This certainly was the right mood.
"Whoever catches the most Pokemon by the end of the day wins. If you win, I'll make you bibimbap for the week. If I win, I don't have to cook."
He rubbed his chin in mock thought. "Hmm, I don't know… just one week of bibimbap?"
"Bibimbap whenever you want for the next two weeks?"
There was that glint again. "You have my attention."
“For a month?”
“Deal!”
And that's how the two of them ended up spending the entire day catching Pokemon, sprawled out on the couch and basking in the little victories and grumbles at defeat. Every so often, she’d glance over at him to see his tongue poking out of the side of his mouth, adorable even in concentration. Perhaps she should have concentrated just as hard instead of staring though, because at the end of the night—
"So… bibimbap for dinner?"
"It's midnight, Saeyoung."
"Is that a yes?"
Saki couldn't help but laugh at the way he wiggled his brows at her. How could she deny a face like that? "Yes."
After all was said and done, the bibimbap turned out to be satisfying. What was even more satisfying was Saeyoung's over-the-top praise and that grin, the kind that had his cheeks rosy and his eyes sparkling. It was so warm, so content; it had her heart fluttering. She’d almost forgotten how wonderful it was to spend so much time with her boyfriend. But such a wonderful treat set a sort of precedent for little bets here and there.
Like whoever could stuff the most grapes in their mouth would forgo laundry for a week. (Saeyoung won that one. He managed to fit in 20 grapes.)
Or whoever could find out what was in Jumin's secret RFA folder could skip dish duty for three days. (Saki won that one. They were pictures of Elizabeth the 3rd. Why they were relevant, she didn’t know— but Saeyoung was intent on getting his hands on that folder now.)
After that, she regrettably won the eating contest. Or perhaps Saeyoung let her win. Either way, she’d gotten sick and he was seemingly intent on forgetting about the bet altogether, choosing to usher her into bed instead.
“I’m fine, though,” she protested, but offered little resistance as he tucked the covers over her. Though he often checked in with how she was doing, it really had been some time since her boyfriend had truly fussed over her. Because between these little competitions, he was still busy. Busy with Saeran at the hospital. Busy with the RFA. Busy with noisy, unkind thoughts; the ones that clouded his eyes and rendered him silent for long stretches of time. And she slowly came to realize that these brief moments of petty competitions seemed to be the only reprieve he had from his own head.
“Even if you’re okay, you should try to get some sleepy-sleeps. You’ve been sleeping at weird hours lately because of me.” He tapped the tip of her nose, his faint smile gentle. “I’ll go make you some soup. It’ll be out of a can, so don’t expect too much, okay?”
As he turned to leave, her fingers caught on his sleeve, tugging. He turned back, his own fingers coming around to wrap around hers. “Wait. Will you come to bed with me instead?”
Saeyoung paused, his gaze resting on her for a brief moment before they strayed. “Well…”
“Please?”
“Alright.” There was that faint smile again, but this one held no warmth. Contrastingly, as he climbed into bed and curled his body around hers, all she could feel was his warmth. “Is this okay?”
“Y-yeah.”
His arms curved around her waist, drawing her to his chest as his breath tickled the shell of her ear. The unfamiliar feeling had Saki shuddering, heat blooming where their bodies met. She wished she could have him like this more often, but she couldn’t tell him that. Not when he was working so hard to support his brother. Not after all that had happened with V, Rika, and the RFA. She just couldn’t fit into those spaces that had carved themselves into his time.
But she would wait. He was worth every second of it.
“You’re all quiet.” His voice sent shivers down her spine. “What are you thinking about?”
“Nothing at all.” Her hand found his, fingers interlinking. “People don’t speak when they sleep, silly.”
He hummed, nose nestling into the nape of her neck. “I guess you’re right.”
A pause.
“So... I did win the bet.”
Saeyoung exhaled a laugh, hot and breathy as it fanned against her skin. “Yeah, but then you got sick after. I don’t think we can call that a real victory, right?”
“We absolutely can.” Saki turned over, rather serious in her declaration as she pinned him with a look. “It’s called committing to the cause.”
He leaned forward, his forehead came to meet hers. “Committing, hm?”
“Absolutely.”
“Since you’re so committed, why don’t I give you an even better prize?”
“A better prize than walking around in a maid’s dress for a week?” She quirked a brow. “What could that possibly be?”
“I would never deprive myself of wearing a maid’s dress!” He drew back in mock disdain, lips pursed. “This would just be a bonus, but if you don’t want it…”
“No, I do! I do.” She pulled him back until his forehead touched hers again, even as her chest tightened. She wanted so much of him when he had nothing left to give, and here he was, offering just a bit more.
“What’s that face?” He cupped her cheek, thumb grazing across her skin lightly. “I thought you said that you wanted a bonus?”
“I do.” She felt herself forcing a smile. She’d have to insist on resting before he’d even consider doing so himself. “I’m just feeling tired now, that’s all. Will you sleep with me?”
“Alright.” His arms came to wrap around her once more, pulling her flush against his chest. In the silence, Saki listened to his heart beat, letting the steady pace lull her.
Did her presence give him the same sort of soothing that he gave her? In the way that eased the knots in her chest and cleared all the thoughts in her head?
And was he comfortable?
Was he okay?
As she felt herself drift off, she thought she’d heard him whisper something, but by then she was too far gone to hear it.
It was some days later after the eating competition fiasco that Saki decided the laundry had to be done. Saeyoung had kept her bedridden for some odd days, insisting that she needed to take it easy, but that meant the dirty clothes basket had grown to monstrous proportions since she’d last seen it. And while her boyfriend technically could have done it himself, he had won the grape bet. Besides, he had a terrible track record with laundry. Separating colours from whites? Hot water or cold water? How much laundry detergent again?
He was a brilliant man, that she knew. But doing laundry somehow broke his brain and she really couldn’t be fussed to walk him through the instructions today when she could do it herself.
Saki got to work, separating clothes into different hampers and bringing them to the washing machine. It was mindless work, but it kept her body busy and her thoughts occupied.
Checking the time between loads, she’d expected him to have long left for the hospital by then. But when she went to check in his mancave, she caught Saeyoung hunched over his desk, writing.
"Jagiya?" She peered in. Force of habit had her scanning the floors for empty chip bags. "You're still here?"
He startled, his head jerking up at the sound of her voice. "Oh! What time is it?"
"Quarter past four."
"Shit." He stood, tidying the work space. She averted her eyes.
Saeyoung's way of tidying consisted of haphazardly shuffling papers into a stack, then pushing it back into a corner to join the other haphazardly balanced stacks. His desk was the one part of the house that intimidated Saki the most.
"You didn’t visit Saeran today?" When he didn't respond, she looked back at him, only to see him close distance between the two of them with two long strides. In his outstretched hand was an envelope.
"This is for you." When she didn't immediately reach for it, he pushed it into her hands gently. His eyes met hers, reassuring. “He said he needed a break from me.”
“Was it a good idea to listen?” She managed a half-smile. “I’m sure he thinks he needs a break from you everyday.”
“Probably.”
The two of them stood there for a moment, silence settling in the small, yet large gap between her and Saeyoung. Looking up at him, she found that her chest ached at the sight. Perhaps it was because she wasn't used to seeing him before supper nowadays. Perhaps it was because she wanted to hug him, but didn't quite know how to ask.
“So you’ve been hiding out here since lunch?” is what came out instead.
The corner of his mouth quirked up. “Not hiding. You just never came in.”
"My bad. But you know that I try to avoid this room as much as possible." Saki mock shuddered. "This mancave… it scares me."
He grinned. "And that's what makes it a good mancave."
"If you say so." Her eyes flickered down to the envelope in her hands, fingers tracing along the edges. "What's this, anyway?"
"It's the bonus." His hand closed around one of hers. "I'll see you at dinner tonight?"
"You don't have to…"
"I know." When Saki looked up, his smile was kind.
"Well then... I look forward to whatever this bonus is." She reached up to give him a kiss on the cheek, but he turned at the last moment and caught her lips instead.
Warm, soft, supple. Tasted suspiciously of Honey Buddha Chips.
She was in love.
Slowly, Saeyoung withdrew. There must have been some poorly concealed disappointment on her face because he laughed, all the while leaning in for another peck. "I'll see you soon. I promise."
"Okay," she said, even though she wasn't quite ready to let him go yet. "Have a great day. I hope the visit goes well."
He only smiled before turning to leave.
Once Saki heard the front door click shut, her eyes turned back to the envelope. It was a simple white, smudged with erasers and pencil marks. She couldn't help but smile, tracing it with her fingers.
Flipping it over, she pulled out the card. Again, a plain white but this time with a watercolour of a bouquet. On the inside, in his distinct chicken scratch: "Someone will be coming by to pick you up at 7 pm. Dress fancy!"
She kept re-reading the two sentences, uncomprehending. 7 pm? That was dinner, right? Just when she thought her boyfriend couldn’t be any more cryptic, he’d outdid himself again. But then again, that was part of his charm.
She could only smile to herself wryly as she went to get ready.
It took her some time to lay out all the dresses she owned. She figured that out of all the clothes she owned, they'd seen the least amount of action— besides, he did say to dress fancy. (Not that she was fully convinced that her definition of fancy remotely aligned with his.)
Eventually, she settled on a flowy blouse and a long skirt, the kind with a narrow waist and fluttering hem that kissed her ankles. Make-up soon adorned her cheeks with careful, even brush strokes. She had even spritzed on a little perfume.
Just as she finished touching up her lipstick, she heard the doorbell ring.
She hurried to the door, opening it to reveal a redheaded man dressed in a full suit and a chauffeur cap.
"Hello. I'm here to pick up Saki."
If she had even the slightest doubt about whether the smile under the cap belonged to her boyfriend, the chirpy voice silenced it instantly.
"Are you my driver tonight?" She quirked a brow.
Saeyoung's grin was wide, sparkling. It was a smile she hadn’t seen in months. "I sure am. Are you ready to go?"
Saki couldn't help but giggle, reaching out to wrap her arm around his. He led her out of the bunker complex and to the limousine parked outside.
When he opened the back door for her, she had half a mind to protest —she wanted to sit with him, after all— but something in his eyes gave her pause. It was an insistence, almost a pleading, and she found herself unable to say no.
As he pulled out of the driveway and onto the roads, she realized that Saeyoung wasn't going at the breakneck speeds she was used to with him; instead, it was steady and… surprisingly, at the speed limit. Almost immediately, she could tell that they were headed towards the city, where the bright lights kissed the horizon.
It wasn't long before they passed the street lamps dotting across the highway and drove through the main roads of Seoul. Restaurants, karaoke, bars… they all glowed with neon signs. Through the windows, people seemed to be laughing and enjoying their time; they looked happy and full of life.
Her chest warmed. Soon, she'd be able to spend time with Saeyoung like that too.
After passing by another couple of busy streets, the car came to a rolling stop in front of a darkened restaurant.
Well... this wasn’t exactly the neon lights she’d found herself hoping for.
Saki peered out into the night, blinking. The Garden?
The Garden was a rather upscale restaurant in downtown Seoul, one that boasted fresh vegetables from its own rooftop garden. She'd been wanting to go with Saeyoung for a while, though the time was never quite right. In fact, she hadn't brought it up in a while. It was so out of question, she didn’t even realize it was an option. How did he remember?
She reached out to open the car door, but Saeyoung beat her to it. It swung open, and a hand outstretched to meet hers as she climbed out.
"You remembered that I wanted to come here." She looked up at Saeyoung, endeared by how his cheeks had turned pink.
"Of course I did." He had taken off the cap at some point and, having nothing else to fiddle with, ran a hand through his hair several times. It stuck up every which way with each stroke.
"Thank you."
"Nothing to thank me for yet." He closed his hand around Saki’s, gently tugging as he urged her to follow him.
The two of them made their way into the restaurant, only to find it just as dark as it appeared to be from the outside- and deserted as well.
No way this place wouldn't be busy on a Friday night.
"Wh- wait- why is it-?"
But Saeyoung only pulled her along further towards the back until the two of them stood in front of an "Employees Only" door. Opening the door revealed a flight of stairs that headed upwards. He gestured for her to enter.
"Should we be going here?" Saki looked around, then back at him. "What's going on, Saeyoung?"
"Go on. Trust me." He reached out, his thumb smoothing over her cheek.
His gaze was warm and unwavering, and it spurred her forward. She climbed up the stairs slowly, though the sight that met her at the top had her gasping.
The rooftop garden was gorgeous, its ledges covered with pots of vegetable and fruit bearing plants. Vines and leaves curled around stone, colouring the grey with vibrant greens. Little lamps adorned the spaces between the pots, warm light emanating from each one. And in the centre of the garden, the plants had been cleared for a small table and a little radio set.
"Saeyoung?" Saki stared at the view before her, a heaviness in her chest and a knot in her throat.
“Yeah?” His soft voice came from beside her, and she turned to see him smiling brightly. At her expression, though, it dimmed. “You don’t... like it?”
“Oh- oh no. I love it.” She swiped at her wet eyes before remembering she had make up on, switching to dabbing gently like she hadn’t just furiously wiped them. “This place is beautiful. How did you manage to get a reservation like this?”
“It’s a secret.” He pressed a finger to his lips smiling, though his relaxing shoulders told her he was more relieved than anything else. His hand stretched out to take hers. “Will you dance with me?”
“It’d be my pleasure.”
He drew her to the centre of the garden, sweeping her into his arms. Snuggly pressed together, the two of them swayed to the same rhythm of an unheard song. The stars danced above with them, twinkling against velvet darkness.
“Comfortable?” His voice was a low hum.
“Yeah.” She spoke thickly, the lump still stuck in her throat. She wondered how long he’d been planning to take her to this restaurant-- how long he’d been planning to take her out anywhere, really.
“Are you-”
“I can’t believe- oh.”
The both of them drew back, eyes meeting before averting as they both chuckled nervously.
“You go first,” he insisted gently.
“I just… This is such a wonderful surprise. I can’t believe we’re here.” Saki inched closer, her fingers tightening where she held onto his shirt. “I appreciate this more than you know.”
“This doesn’t even begin to show you how much I appreciate you. You’ve been so patient with me while I’ve had to take care of Saeran.” He blinked, eyes suddenly misty. “Things are going well at the hospital because I’ve had you to support me. I wanted to thank you somehow; I figured this would be a good start.”
He leaned forward, his forehead pressed against hers gently. His glasses smudged against her cheek, a gentle deterrent, but she only pressed in further.
The two of them swayed for a long moment, his arms warm and comforting around her. But perhaps there was something fundamentally wrong with her, with the way she itched to speak with mild tones of sarcasm at the most inappropriate times, because she couldn’t help but whisper, “I thought this was the bonus for winning the eating competition?”
And despite the single tear that had tracked its way down his cheek, Saeyoung laughed loudly, warm and full and free. And then he tilted his head and his lips met hers.
This kiss was different somehow; it stirred the sleeping butterflies in her stomach, their wings fluttering as they awoke. She was the first to draw away, cheeks warm but gaze never moving from his. “I’ll be here to support you always.”
He opened his mouth, then paused for a moment before his lips quirked. “And I’ll always be here to catch your Pokemon. No more competitions.”
“Hm. Not even one?”
He grinned in a way that told her he was game and from the butterflies it gave her, she knew he was worth every second of waiting. She also knew that it was going to be a long night of silly, stupid bets ahead.
And she couldn’t wait.

PokePinion-Tober 22-31
Spooky day is inching closer and closer!
So far we've done: Dragalge, Skuntank, Cramorant, Lechonk, Delibird, Eglyem, Dusclops, Axew, Bulbasaur, Raticate, and Hattrem, Dratini, Pincurchin, Clefairy, and Tympole
22 Happiny
Tumblr media
I mean of all of the useless babies, this one felt the most useless
Like of all things why on earth would you give Chansey a baby? It's at least a little cute though. The evolution method is also really stupid, like why an oval stone.
It makes no sense.
6/10. Cuteness can't save confusion
23 Shiinotic
Tumblr media
Look at the little guy!!!
I love mushrooms so a pink cutesy mushroom is a great design to me. It's super duper cute, but also creepy with how it lures people into the forest.
Perfect for Halloween and great for me.
My friend also thinks it's cute and what she says goes.
8/10. The lower body looks like an Igglybuff.
23 Persian
Tumblr media
This is one of the worst Pokemon designs ever.
It's seriously just a cat. Not even the name is interesting, when I was googling the picture the first like 7 things, were the actual cat
2/10. boring
24 Dustox
Tumblr media
I like Dustox a lot. Sure it's an early game bug so it's not super useful, but it does look pretty badass.
The green and purple go really nicely together, and I like the little smile it has. makes it look like it's scheming
Also I really like the shiny.
8/10. Mothman does good
25 Palpitoad
Tumblr media
Well we did Tympole, and now we got the ugly evolution.
Like it takes everything I liked about Tympole, and just removed and left an ugly frog.
3/10. Worse Tympole
26 Pawmot
Tumblr media
Alright, this art had a lot of personality and it's cute.
Not honestly a huge fan of Pawmot. It's not bad by any means, but the design never did much for me. The evolution is also so annoying to actually acomplish.
6/10. not bad but not for me
27 Wiglet
Tumblr media
This guy is so stupid.
In the good way of course. Of all things, I didn't expect Diglett to get any new attention after the Aloaln form, but I was wrong.
I used a Wiglett in my Violet playthrough, and it sucked, but it was still really cute
7/10. weird but cute
28 Croagunk
Tumblr media
Honestly, I forgot how much I actually enjoyed gunky boy. One of the cooler Sinnoh lines with the nice colours.
I also love the teal shiny. Also he could pull off Crazy Frog pretty well.
8/10. Let's get gunky
29 Crustle
Tumblr media
He looks so mad at everything.
Grumpy crab using a rock as a shell is certainly a concept, and it works pretty well. It also has another really cool shiny with the lime green accents.
Also I call Dwebble, Dweeble.
8/10. Crab time
30 Exegutor
Tumblr media
I hate spelling this.
I like Alolan Exegutor way kore than the original, but this is the one the generator gave me.
The faces are just a little too weird for me, and the weird palm tree body doesn't help.
4/10. Taking a point away for the spelling.
31 Tapu Bulu
Tumblr media
Way to end on a bang with a legendary.
Unfortunately Tapu Bulu is my least favourite of the Tapu's, but it's not bad.
The body is a super funky shape, which helps it stand out from other Pokemon, and the red compliments the yellow.
I also like the bull imagery with the hoof arms and bell tail
6/10. Not a personal favourite, but alright.
Happy Halloween Y'all!!!

(captions~) - After taking the finals I easily finished the teacher bonds and looked around the school where... someone was running a therapy service for looking at their Cyclizar?  No thanks, I’d rather look at my own, which I gave the best name possible: Motortongue.  (Get it? Mother tongue, but motor?)  Heh
- A while ago I decided to use level grinding time as resource grinding time which means when I saw Sunflora could spawn on this small island with no other grass types to cause overlap with the Grassy Encounter Power I went for it... and got two shinies while I was there!  Sunflora is super rare there, so there was a lot of running around looking at the flowers they can spawn on.  Buizel got the unoriginal name of Buoy, but the Mareanie’s name is a double pun!  It has barbs, but it’s also Barbie-Pink!  I’m really proud of that one, heh!
- After beating up Grusha (Who looked so cute trying to refuse the photo and failing, heh!) I decided to take on the chance to explore the last two areas  associated with the last two Team Star admins, since I haven’t touched their areas yet.  Probably should’ve started with the Fae Admins place and not the rocky area of the final admin, bc not having Climbing there is really hellish...
- The next day I explored the bamboo forest and found a funny meme in text before exploring the much smaller Fae Admin area, where I will be hunting Chansey during my grinding from now on, heh!  I also finally found the cave where the Glimmet swarm was last week, which I couldn’t have found because the cave was accessed by the beach.  Oh well, I already got plenty from that one split cave in EPA3.
- I finally began wrapping up the first three story lines!  Star☆Twinkle/Tinkaton (named after the first Precure season I enjoyed) looks so happy after beating up Tatsugiri, omg...  After unlocking Climbing thanks to her efforts I explored everywhere and finished my spike hunt... but I haven’t caught Ancient guys yet!
Right now I money grinding to buy the rest of the clothes I’m missing because I want to put together one final outfit before completing the first three story lines for good.  Veracidad fashion is so crazy expensive, augh...
pic 1: jan 10th: I don't care, I'm still shipping you two. pic 2: ...So this dude is really trying to pay people to look at his Pokemon, huh?  Whee's the tarp/circus tent to prevent people from looking for free? pic 3: jan 11th: grinding resources for a VERY rare Pokeon on a small island where no other Pokemon of the same type exist leads to... pic 4: the game spamming you with shinies. (Mostly because I'm in one small area and can spot them easier now.)  Buizel got named Buoy and the Barbie-pink Mareanie got named... Barbie.  Puns! pic 5: jan 15th: "Ma'am, what part of '/I don't want to be a Champion/', don't you understand?" Skye says before Nemona starts choking her for insulting La Primera. pic 6: This got me to snort.  (As did the Dragon sisters.) pic 7: jan 16th: ඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞඞ pic 8: Got stuck in another cave and the battle decided to reposition me in the wall, lol.  Didn't fall out of the world on this one, tho. pic 9: jan 23th: She's so happy, omg...  But Steel/Flying is my favorite type combo and there's only three, and she's the enemy of one of them, augh! pic 10: jan 24th: Noivern swooped in when I was targetting it's shiny child, augh...  I did catch him, though!  Couldn't think of a good name so he's Tealous for now.

When talking about Sanders Sides Pokemon AUs, I find most folks describing Patton as having your typical “healer” Pokemon like Chansey’s line or Audino, or more emotion-sensitive Pokemon like Ralts’s line and/or the Toge-line (especially since Togepi was canon!Patton’s answer to “what Pokemon would you be?”), and I’m not saying those aren’t valid buuuuut...
I, for one, think we’re all sleeping on Swoobat.
Tumblr media
Appropriate coloration, big ol’ smile that quite literally reaches them big ol’ eyes in most official art, adorable pink heart nose (and a Signature Move based around it), Psychic-type (read: can sense emotions just like Ralts), and some of its Pokedex entries straight-up say that the males give off waves that can give people a positive mood shift (and if we count in the entries for Swoobat’s prevo Woobat, then they’re very cuddly and huggy Pokemon as well)!
I won’t claim Swoobat is the Pokemon to partner with Patton, not by a long shot! After all a good team has more than one Pokemon in it and as said before, the others fit quite nicely as well, but you take one look at this lil blueberry muffin of a sky puppy and you TELL ME it doesn’t deserve a spot on the roster, too!

What do you think of Scream Tail? I can't get over the prehistoric Jigglypuff
Tumblr media
One of the most underrated funny things about Scream Tail here is that Jigglypuff lulls people to sleep with its singing, so what does this thing do? Scream at the top of its lungs. I really wish we could've gotten some focus on that in the 'dex or gotten a cry that references that, because it's by far the best part of this Pokemon.
Anyway, design-wise, Scream Tail isn't the strongest of the past paradox Pokemon, but it's not bad either. In some ways, I actually like it better than regular Jigglypuff; the contrast between the lighter pink of the body and the darker pink of the tail/hair, which is shared by the blush cheeks, gives it a much better sense of contrast then regular Jigglypuff. The dark pink on the tail also draws attention to it, as it's the part of the design that's the most different than regular Jigglypuff.
I also like some of the little details in this, like the extra fur around the ears or the legs now having little toes to them. It also has a bit of a tail, though the way it doesn't touch the ground is a bit odd. I think I would've liked something a bit longer and more Chansey-esq there:
Tumblr media
I also feel like the lighter yellow eyes and tiny fangs give it a fierce yet cute aesthetic that somehow manages to be cuter to me than OG Jigglypuff does.
If Scream Tail has one problem though, it's that it feels a bit directionless. Most of the past paradoxes have a specific theme to them—Koraidon is a feathered dinosaur, Slither Wing retains a nymph-like stage, Sandy Shocks has legs, etc.
With Scream Tail, it has a long tail/hair, and it also screams, and it also has fangs, and it's overall just kind of unclear what they were going for with it, resulting in a visually interesting but ultimately disconnected design. Maybe if they tied the tail back into the screaming thing, like it unfurls and emits a psychic scream blast or something like that.
So as a whole, Scream Tali has a perfectly nice design with some good contrast that arguably looks better than original Jigglypuff, at the cost of having an ill-defined concept in favor of some vaguely prehistoric unrelated elements. It's good—it just could've been better.
Also side note: this thing supposedly being over 1 billion years old makes it older than all multi-celled organisms and I think that's unintentionally hilarious.

has this been done yet
I have been possessed with the concept of an Encanto/Pokemon crossover where basically everything is the same except the Madrigal family’s gifts are accompanied by an associated pokemon.
Explanations/rationale under the cut:
Abuela Alma - Volcarona
Fire type, which makes for a sensible link with an undying flame
Moth imagery, which fits for her given the butterflies that are associated with both her and the candle itself
Pseudo-legendary: roughly half its ‘dex entries talk about how it saved humans and pokemon in the past, which makes it pretty reasonable to associate it with a miracle
Julieta - Chansey
Known for its highly-nutritious eggs that even people without an appetite will devour -- fitting for someone who heals with cooking
Also very rare, making it a clear blessing to have around
While it does evolve, all of Blissey’s ‘dex entries mention that its eggs are filled with happiness, rather than having healing properties, so it makes more sense for her Gift partner to stay a Chansey rather than evolving on
Pepa - Castform
Weather control, which is a perfect fit for someone whose emotions affect the local weather
While the Castform would definitely be her Gift partner, I could definitely see her with something like Cherrim (which also changes form with the weather)
Bruno - Absol
100% of the reason this possessed me
Absol was dubbed ‘The Disaster Pokemon’ because it kept trying to warn people of foreseen danger, only to be unfairly maligned for the attempt -- seems pretty fitting for someone that gets blamed for telling people the future when they ask
While he undoubtedly has a collection of rat pokemon (Rattatas and the like) the Absol was his Gift partner, and I can’t help but think it went with him when he disappeared -- after all, the visions aren’t Absol’s fault, and it’s nice to have someone that knows what you’ve been through
Absol is also one of my favorite pokemon so
Isabela - Roserade
She obviously needs a Grass type, particularly something floral
I ended up searching through the ‘dex for something that would fit, and ended up with Roserade specifically because one of its entries talks about how the sweeter its scent, the more toxic it is (a nod to her hidden depths)
While the Roserade is undoubtedly her Gift partner, she probably has other floral pokemon around like Lilligant, Bellossom, etc.
Dolores - Clefable
It’s ‘dex entries literally note that it can hear a pin drop from half a mile away, which is how Mirabel introduces her cousin in the first place -- what more is there to say?
Another extreme rarity of a pokemon, so also likely to be seen as a blessing or sign of good fortune
Clefable is another one of my favorite pokemon okay
Luisa - Bewear
Her gift is super strength, so a fighting type was a no-brainer, given that so many of them lean into being strong physical fighters
Bewear fits particularly well, though, because not only is Luisa incredibly strong, she’s also very feminine: having something pink and cute seems like a perfect match for a young woman that embraces her femininity as much as she does her raw power
Camilo - Ditto
Shapeshifting and perfect copies: there are only two pokemon that naturally learn transform, and the only other one is Mew (and I’m not doling out actual legendaries)
Though he does have chameleon imagery on his ruana, Kecleon is geared toward invisibility and ‘blending in’ rather than actual transformation
Zorua and Zoroark were also considered, but both of them rely on illusion rather than actual shapeshifting, so ultimately Ditto feels like the strongest fit
Mirabel - Audino
It’s all about the empathy: Audino uses those little feelers on its ears to understand how others are feeling, and Mirabel is able to reach out and understand the hidden insecurities and traumas of her family
Also, its ears look a bit like butterfly wings to me (particularly in its Mega-Evolved form)
The Audino is definitely a Gift Pokemon, but probably isn’t known to be one until the end: it showed up around the seemingly failed Gift Ceremony, but not from the door the way the others did, so no one made the connection
Her parents probably decided on their own to let Mirabel take it on as a partner in an attempt to cheer her up, given how hard that lost door must have hit her
Antonio - Liepard
We really need more big cat pokemon, Liepard is about as close to a jaguar as I can get
He undoubtedly has a ton of other pokemon hanging around like Toucannon, but given that the jaguar hangs with him through most of the movie after the Gift ceremony, Liepard seems like the best choice for a Gift pokemon
Felix - Oricorio
Not actually a Gift pokemon, just his buddy
Felix is a joy and so encouraging and upbeat, so coupled with the warm color palette for his clothes, the pom-pom variant seems like a perfect fit
Agustin - Buneary
Also not a Gift pokemon, just a buddy
Buneary having Klutz as an ability, coupled with how much of a punch those ears pack when they uncoil, does nothing to mitigate Agustin’s accident-prone nature
I’ll be real, though, I also considered a Teddiursa (because of all the bees he has to deal with)

17, 18, 50, 76 for pokemon meme?
Pokemon Ask meme: 17. 3 Favorite Pokemon: Audino, Beedrill, and Squirtle. Audino has been my fave since its introduction because it's very cute and it makes grinding levels way less of a pain since it gives extra EXP when defeated in the wild. Beedrill really grew on me since my Kalos adventure. Since it could learn false swipe, I kept it in my party, all the way until beating the Champion since I kept it as party head in order to catch wild Pokemon (I actually never evolved Fennekin. I swapped my cute baby foxy out for Beedrill and, weirdly, barely bonded with my starter at all. As far as I was concerned in XY, Beedrill was my starter. XD) I never liked Beedrill before that, but I think of Buzz the Beedrill all the time now. He was a good pal. Squirtle is my OG though. When I got Red and Blue as a kid, I thought you were supposed to pick the Pokemon on the Cartridge as your starter. So when I started Red, I picked Charmander and boy, I quit soon after, because Brock was HARD with Charmander. But when I played Blue, I picked Squirtle. And me and my Squirtle were tight ever since. Honorable mentions to Pikachu and the regional electric rodents. Emolga is probs my fave Pika Clone. Second honorable mention to Meowth because child me loved Meowth the most. Final honorable mention to anything pink because honestly, I loved Chansey and Clefable a lot as a kid too and I still quite like most of the pink pokemon.
18. 3 Least Favorite Pokemon: Binnacle/Barbaracle, Skrelp/Dragalge both of which are a disgrace for being ugly sea creatures. They just look angry. Not cute, not cool, just grumpy brown sea critters. Unacceptable. Voltorb/Electrode, Magnemite/Magneton/Magnezone are tied because, like, there's nothing wrong with the concept or design. They're just not cute to me and I don't really like them. Klefki gets a bad rap for being a "shitty inanimate object" and "a sign that Pokemon designs are getting more and more uninspired" but I think Klefki is cute. So if people get to shit on my baby Klefki, I get to shit on the OG mons that started the trend of "inanimate objects made animate."
50. Least Favorite Ice Type: LOL, what a unique ask! Glalie is the least cute so I guess I have to go with that. Bergmite isn't very cute either but it's cuter than Glalie. People shit on the Vanils for "just being ice creams" but I like Vanillite and company!
76. A Pokemon that you feel is underrated: Dunsparce and Quagsire. Both of them. They are very cute and deserve a chance, even if their typing and moveset aren't the best. As you can see, my general pokemon philosophy is "pick cute pokemon, make them love me, and then kick ass with them." I respect people that go through the trouble of breeding and min-maxing and all that, but I personally find that not fun and a waste of time. My goal with pokemon games is always just to run around and meet cute monsters and be friends with them. Why would I want to train up a monster that's not even cute just because it has good stats that I can breed to extremes with way extra time and effort all just to beat up some other human person in-game who did the same thing? Especially because with the internet, it's less a game of skill, patience, and effort, and more of just a research problem. That guy who won a pokemon tournament with Pachirisu is my fucking hero. That's the only time hypercompetitive Pokemon tourneys are fun for me. When someone sees everyone doing the same strategy and says to himself "How do I find and exploit a flaw in this narrow reasoning and win in the silliest way possible?" Like, If I can't use a team of 6 Audino to kick your ass, then I don't even want to. I only want to win if I can use my faves to do it. And that includes accidentally beating the Elite 4 and champion with my under-leveled Pancham HM servant because I forgot to swap him out for something better. If I can't kick your ass with a bug, a tiny shitty panda, a fish, a cat, a bird, and some kind of pink rabbit critter, then I don't really want to beat you. It's not fun if I'm not winning with my cute best buds. Mewtwo this, perfect EV and IV Marshtomp that, just let me win with a sixpack of cute.

Krenko's Guide to Pokemon: Happiny Line
Tumblr media
Can I offer you a nice egg in this trying time?
DESIGN:
Happiny is pure soft pink round cuteness. It's not quite as clean as something like Jigglypuff, but the bottom that looks like some sort of baby seat, the curly hair atop its head, and its little egg-stone just add to its adorability. I admit I don't fully get what's going on in the split between its top and bottom halves, but it's adorable just the same.
Chansey is particularly simple, big, round, and holding an egg. There's not much to Chansey's design, but the floppy things on the sides of its head that might be ears or hair or something add just a bit of texture and break up its design just enough to be unique and interesting instead of boring.
Tumblr media
Blissey fluffs up further, adding curly hair and fluffy fur (yes, the Pokedex says fur) that resembles a skirt and flared gloves. I do like Blissey's design, but I think it's a bit too close to Chansey's. Unlike most evolved forms, the visual differences that separate Blissey from Chansey don't make it look like an older, stronger version, or even a transformed one. If anything, Blissey looks like it could be a Regional Form of Chansey more than an evolved form.
Tumblr media
Well, it still looks a hell of a lot better than it’s Beta Design (art by Rachel Briggs) . That stupid thing has a mouth and/or a butt on its head. Also TWO EGGS because two is eggier than one.
Tumblr media
EVOLUTIONS:
Happiny evolves to Chansey when leveled up during the day while holding a completely non-magical rock that looks like an egg. This is about as big a waste of time as you can get from a Pokemon that's just going to its second form and should evolve on its own at level 20 or so. On the flip side, the only way to get your Chansey to lay a Happiny egg is give the Chansey a "Luck Incense" before breeding...
Now buckle up, because I'm about to explain to you why "Incense" is one of my least favorite mechanics in all the Pokemon games. I'm sure I'll complain more in the future, but this is a big one.
See, when a Chansey has a baby normally, its egg hatches into a fully grown Chansey who has its own egg. Only by breeding a Chansey while using "Luck Incencse" do you get a Happiny. This means that Happiny isn't the natural form of Chansey, and there shouldn't be any wild Happiny without significant amounts of wild Luck Incense, but they're there. They exist. They're all over Alola. You know what's NOT all over Alola? Luck Incense. You have to buy that stuff specifically from a dealer.
And is this GOOD for the Chansey? A Happiny is so much weaker than a Chansey that in the wild it's just a huge disadvantage for a Chansey to lay a Happiny Egg over a Chansey Egg, so you'd think they'd know to avoid Luck Incense.
There's no logical or reasonable benefit of these Incenses, and it's honestly just weird that they're necesarry. But why ARE they necesarry? Because Pokemon HATES changing data, other than movesets. Movesets change constantly and are rearranged every generation, but evolution means, breeding lines, and abilities basically never change no matter how little sense they make. So Happiny can't exist on its own because in Generations 2 and 3 Chanseys laid Chansey Eggs, and you can't change it now even if you're adding in Happiny, so it has to be 'newly discovered' through some 'strange method.'
Tumblr media
KishiShiotani drew a baby Chansey because those are normal for some reason
So what do we do? We drug our Chanseys in order to get a premature Chansey Baby that's Smaller and Cuter and we call it a new Pokemon. And you know what? Chansey's base stats are pretty hefty. It deserved a Baby version. But it can't just HAVE a Baby Version it has to have the ability to jump through hoops to get it... And then that baby can't just evolve into Chansey, it has to get a special rock and only come out during the day for some stupid reason.
Incense Babies should be stricken from the game. The mechanic, that is. Happiny should stick around forever, but every baby Chansey or Blissey should be a Happiny. And they should just evolve at level 20 or something.
Chansey evolves into Blissey with Friendship. Which makes sense for this Pokemon and is a fine and reasonable mechanic.
Tumblr media
Happiny’s Egg by Momogirl
TYPING:
The Happiny line is pure Normal type, which means weak to fighting, immune to ghost, and ineffective against Rock, Steel, and Ghost. This is generally a pretty poor type to be, especially offensively, but having only one weakness is really good for tankier Pokemon. Only Fighting type attacks are super-effective against the Happiny line, making it harder to topple them.
STATS:
Blissey has the highest HP in the game. In fact, Blissey's 255 HP is the highest stat in the game. Couple this with 135 Special Defense and Blissey is the best Special wall in all of Pokemon. Unfortunately, this comes with a drawback. At a disturbingly low 10 physical defense, Blissey's 255 HP doesn't actually let it take a punch from many attackers.
Blissey's speed is low, though not the worst, and its special attack at 75 is a comfortable average. Blissey's not a great attacker, but Pokemon can't ignore it. Its physical attack, like its defense, is an impossibly low 10, but that's easily solved by just not using any physical attacks.
Tumblr media
Let’s get Happy by couchmochi
ABILITIES:
Blissey's Hidden Ability, Healer, only works in double battles. At the end of each turn, it has a 30% chance to remove your other Pokemon's status effects. This is fine, but double only.
Serene Grace is a great ability that isn't really relevant to Blissey. Serene Grace doubles the chance of secondary effects on moves, but there's nothing in Blissey's list that this is particularly relevant on. Sure, it means Ice Beam has a 20% chance to freeze instead of a 10%, but that's still mediocre at best.
Most Blisseys are going to want to use Natural Cure, which automatically heals all status conditions when switched out. This means Blissey is far less susceptible to Poison and Burn than other tanky Pokemon, and being able to remove Paralysis and Sleep with a switch is nice, too. Bonus points for PvE where this also heals status effects after battles.
Tumblr media
pokenurses by Crayon-Chewer
MOVES:
Soft-Boiled, Blissey's signature move, heals it 50% its max HP. Which is a lot. The only excuse for not teaching your Blissey Soft-Boiled is if you'd managed to keep an Event Wish Chansey from 2004 and are using Wish instead. Good luck with that.
Dealing damage with Blissey is then the hard part. In older generations it could learn Toxic, but that got seriously cut down in Sword and Shield. Which means the best way to deal damage is to get a Machop, level it up to 40 until it learns Seismic Toss, breed it with a female Pancham until you get a male baby, breed that Pancham with a female, Mawile until you get a male baby, and then breed that Mawile with a Chansey or Blissey so that the baby learns Seismic Toss.
Or, if you're not crazy, just teach it Flamethrower and hope you inflict a burn.  Blissey actually learns a good variety of special attacks, so you can pick others like Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, or Psychic for specific coverage.
If not using Toxic, Thunder Wave does a good job at weakening foes for you to gradually defeat them with an attacking move.
Blissey can learn Stealth Rock, which is often worth setting up when you've got a free turn due to tankiness.
The best move list for Blissey would probably be Wish, Toxic, Teleport, and Seismic Toss. A casual, reasonable move list for Blissey in Gen 8 is Soft-Boiled, Flamethrower, Thunder Wave, and Stealth Rock.
OVERALL:
Blissey is an amazing Special Wall, but with Gen 8 taking Toxic away from it, Wish being trapped behind a time machine, and Seismic Toss being so difficult for it to learn it has a hard time leveraging that into anything resembling a win.  Still, spamming Flamethrower forever isn't a bad strategy, even if it's not what one would expect to see from Blissey. Blissey’s great, but the difference between a modern Blissey and a top-quality Blissey is pretty notable.
