i’m just
there must be so many gaps in jieum’s memory
she was the girl of many trades but can she remember how she learnt any of those skills? No they were all from her past lives so they’re gone. Can she remember leaving her neglectful family to live with ae-gyeong? No because she was from a past life, so where does ji-eum think she grew up? She remembers being good at school and her awards but not if anybody was there in the audience for her. She says in her phone call to her superior that she remembers switching departments before, but she doesn’t remember working in the hotel. She cooks meals the exact way as ae-gyeong taught her and she taught ae-gyeong, but she doesn’t remember having learnt them. if she can’t remember anything to do with her past lives, she wouldn’t be able to remember anything that had happened in the past few months the drama is set over.
that must be such an odd and confusing existence, to only remember small dots and flashes of your life, and a giant gap in recent memory, and she doesn’t even seem to be affected by it either? Did she go to the hospital after coming to consciousness standing on a bridge with no idea how she got there? Did they run tests on her brain to see if something had gone wrong? Does she think she suffered a mental breakdown?
What is going on in ji-eum’s brain in those final scenes i want to dissect her thoughts like a grape
#see you in my 19th life#did she move back into her old job on the suggestion of a therapist who is helping her with her sudden memory loss?#she was living with ae-gyeong where did she think she lived?#does she have monthly visits to a group of doctors that are fascinated by her oddly specific memory loss?#in those first few days after losing all her memories. did people she knew try to approach her and she freaked?#if she’d gone to the hospital ae-gyeong would be her emergency contact. maybe it just slipped through the cracks because she was also in#hospital recovering from surgery at the time.#there is a large set of contacts in ji-eum’s phone that she doesn’t recognise at all - not just numbers from her loved ones#but contacts for her job at the hotel as well and anybody she’d met during the show’s run#imagine with me if you will if there had been one final episode instead of those few scenes#ji-eum recovering from what she can only assume is some kind of mental breakdown from stress and her childhood#ae-gyeong coming to visit her in hospital and this deliciously heart-wrenching scene that mirrors ji-eum by her bedside when she was ill#and ji-eum doesn’t recognise her at all and only feels a base level of concern knowing ae-gyeong had surgery not long before#ae-gyeong promising to take care of ji-eum but turns her down because her head and heart hurt from being near her so she rents out an#apartment. she has no recollection of working at the hotel and seo-ha isn’t ready to see her yet it’s too soon so doyun has to handle her#transition back to the engineering track. and in her phone she deletes all the contacts she doesn’t know but when she looks at the photos#and icr if she took one with seo-ha but she must have but defo the one with her ae-gyeong and cho-won. she can’t bear to delete them#even though she doesn’t know them or remember why they were taking this photo. but bc it’s a romance she has to have a few photos of seo-ha#and she sort of ponders over them like. who are you. who were you to me. but it hurts her head so she puts down her phone#and there can be a bunch of times throughout the episode where she just misses him like. she’s asleep in hospital and he brings her flowers#and she wakes up just in time to see the back of his head leaving the room. she could visit ae-gyeong to try to rebuild this#parental relationship she doesn’t remember but has all the proof that this is the lady who raised her. and like in the show seo-ha could be#sat right behind her but he doesn’t interact with her directly they just do the napkin bit and then he leaves w/o looking at her#and the meet-up with cho-won could stay the same with the difference that ji-eum recognises her from their photo and says something like#’we know each other don’t we.’ and cho-won gets so excited and maybe even calls them sisters but then she realises what she’s doing and is#like. ‘that’s how it felt for me. we worked together just a few months ago. i’m cho-won’ and then ji-eum can do that#gorgeous reach for her memories from the show where she rolls the name around her mouth because it’s just so familiar#and ofc i’d change nothinf about the scene where she finally re-unites with seo-ha that was delicious af#but i feel like there were just too many gaps in her memories for it to have been smoothed over y’know?#disclaimer i read the webtoon first and loved it but think it had to change for the adaptation

SPOILERS!!! REFERENCES AND EASTER EGGS IN F&C ep. 8: JERRY
The last of four posts for today.
Tumblr media
This episode has a very dark setting. This is the universe where The Lich wished for the extinction of all life. There is nothing here. This establishing shot features the Squirrel's apple cart, from a few episodes ago, but he is long dead and it is long abandoned.
Tumblr media
We are introduced to a new cosmic entity, Orbo, who is Scarab's boss but is not to be mistaken for Prismo's boss, whose identity remains a mystery.
Tumblr media
Simon name drops a whole bunch of magical items from the original Adventure Time series; the Armour of Zeldron from Blood Under the Skin, the Wand of Dispersement from Sons of Mars, the Porcelain Lamb from Beyond This Earthly Realm, and the magic beans from The Pods.
Tumblr media
This episode suggests that the nature of Simon and Betty's relationship was initially quite unhealthy. He was one of her lecturers, and she had an infatuation with him from first sight.
Tumblr media
This illustration features the ancient wizards who sealed Coconteppi beneath Wizard City in the Distant Lands episode of the same name.
Tumblr media
Simon's expedition to find the Enchiridion was first mentioned in the newspaper clipping in I Remember You, and was mentioned again in Temple of Mars.
Tumblr media
BMO apparently survived The Lich's wish because he isn't technically alive. I wonder where Neptr and the other MOs are. Cannibalised for batteries, perhaps. Also, that BRB note is very sad and is identical to the one Finn wrote in Blenanas.
Tumblr media
There are various familiar items in the thawed out remains of the Ice Kingdom; ninja paraphernalia from The Chamber of Frozen Blades, Ice King's diary from The Empress Eyes, and of course the tape collection from Holly Jolly Secrets.
Tumblr media
Here's a deep cut: That machine in the background to the right of Simon is the machine that held the lightning power that Finn went to steal in What is Life, so that he could power up Neptr. The Demonic Wishing Eye is also in this shot.
Tumblr media
For a single frame, Ice King and Gunter can be seen reduced to skeletons. Presumably this was the exact moment that the Lich's wish took effect. Everyone died instantly, in less than a frame.
Tumblr media
When I watched this episode for the first time I was confused about where Fionna got the working crown. But you can just about see it inside the drum in this shot, where Ice King mentioned he had put it in his tape.
Tumblr media
This is the exact moment the photograph was taken for the newspaper clipping seen in I Remember You.
Tumblr media
We first heard the story about how Simon met Betty after they tried to check out the same library book in Broke His Crown. It's cool to see it playing out for real.
Tumblr media
Simon throws a pebble at the window and accidentally hits Babette in the face, exactly like Finn and Jake did to Kim Kil Whan in the episode Ocarina.
Tumblr media
This is the second time Simon caused Betty to miss this research trip to Australia. She says in Temple of Mars that she never got the opportunity to go, and resolves that her life might not have been so messed up if she'd followed her own dreams instead of following Simon's.
Tumblr media
The song in this scene, the motif of which has been heard throughout the series, is by Half Shy, who also wrote "Monster" for Obsidian.
Tumblr media
BMO is buried with a paper flower because there are no real ones left alive. His death seemed pointlessly cruel.
Tumblr media
THE LICH! He is in his half-disguised Billy form, confirming that this is his wish-altered reality. Like in his other appearances, the first line he speaks is a single word command. This time, the command is "Cease." But with nothing left to do he has become depressed, and he doesn't bother killing our protagonists.
Tumblr media
And finally, we are left on this cliffhanger. Fionna and Cake have returned to their world. Scarab has convinced the boss that Simon must be destroyed. And GOLBetty is here to claim them both while the Lich watches on.
Tumblr media
This episode's dream features a pair of Lich skulls either side an effigy of GOLB.

Letters From the Sky
[A/N: Bruv I so rarely write angst because I am a weakling and it makes me Big Sad, but this has been floating around in my drafts and I just binge watched a bunch of NCIS episodes that made me cry so 🤲🏽 a ficlet for u, here u go. It's not really the saddest ending so there's that, at least? I hope? I sorry] Pairing: Jethro Gibbs x wife!reader TW: references to funerals/loss, implied character death
__________
Settling down on the couch in your living room, you tuck your knees underneath one of your husband’s old USMC hoodies and create a makeshift table out of your lap. Writing a letter can help you deal with your emotions, help you move on with life, your mother had advised, and so here you were, pen in hand, staring at the blank piece of paper before you. Hi, I love you and I miss you didn’t quite cut it. And were you supposed to keep adding to the letter daily, filling him in on your life? Was time passing differently for him? How long would it be until you heard his voice again? Could you ask your friend for her thoughts, or would your questions bring up too many bad memories? Head growing fuzzy and eyes growing watery from your endless stream of questions with no answers in sight, you opted to just start writing. Foregoing a greeting, figuring your husband would know exactly who this was from, you let out a deep breath and put pen to paper.
Funerals are such a funny thing, aren’t they, Jethro? The many faces from your past and present gathered around to celebrate life, lament loss, and say things aloud that they should’ve said to the person who needed to hear it most.
I miss you more than I could ever put into words. It was so strange being there today without you. How many of those solemn events did we attend together throughout the years? Family, friends, colleagues… Too many to count, and most of them senseless losses.
I don’t know how to keep going without you by my side, but it’s been such a blessing to be surrounded by your loved ones. We’ve been trading so many wonderful memories, stories about your fearless feats, your never-ending pursuit of justice, your stubborn nature, your devotion to those lucky enough to know you. I even met one of your former lovers after the funeral, and honey, let me tell you, we got to gossiping. Turns out you’re a regular Casanova, huh? It’s those steel blue eyes that keep you coming back for more, I swear.
I like to think that, even though we’re physically apart now, you can still hear me. After all, you always did say that about my optimism- “from your mouth to God’s ears, sweetheart”. Do you think, if I yelled loud enough, I could get a message delivered to you?
This big house feels even bigger without you. I guess I can think about it like those cases that would last for days, where I wouldn’t even get a glimpse of you until your perp was behind bars, but we both know it’s not quite the same. At least I can raid your closet without hearing you grumble about your favorite hoodies going missing- silver linings, my darling Jethro. I’m not sure how long they’ll keep smelling like you, but I’m determined not to wash them, just in case… My secret’s safe with you, right?
Speaking of secrets (more like hidden gems), I found a stash of Kelly’s artwork upstairs and I’ve started adding her drawings to the gallery of photos on the walls. I know I made some changes after we got married, but the sheer lack of decor when I moved in still astounds me. You’re such a man, she said lovingly.
Anyway, I think you’ll be pleased to know that
The sound of the front door opening alerts you to your friend’s return, and you hurry to jot down your last few thoughts.
Anyway, I think you’ll be pleased to know that your girls are all together in this big house of yours :) Hopefully, we’ll see you soon.
P.S. Not too soon. I know I call you my old man, but you’re not that old- yet.
Gibbs puts his truck in park on the driveway, returning home after another day added to the list of longest days of his life. He sits in the cab for a few prolonged minutes, trying to muster up the courage to enter your big house that feels even bigger now.
When he finally trudges up the walkway, he pauses with his hand on the doorknob and releases a heavy sigh before pushing the door open. And then, for just a split second, he swears he hears you calling his daughter’s name and her answering giggle overlapping with her mother’s voice.
The moment is fleeting, and no matter how hard he strains, he can’t conjure up the sound again. But the house feels warmer, lighter somehow.
And he smiles.

Digimon Tamers - Volume 4
The beginning of this volume flat out spoils things by putting characters that haven't been introduced yet on the character page. (MarineAngemon, the Juri clone, the D-Reaper queen...) Maybe that's a common practice with shounen manga...but it shouldn't be. Like, what's the point?
Ch. 22
Lopmon and Terriermon interacting will never get old. Love how they lift their ears with curiosity when they first see each other.
I think I prefer experiencing the ~sad~ part of Tamers better in manga form. I remember it being quite drawn out in the anime and I rather just blitz through it at this point. I think the whole Leomon death storyline just annoys me because they barely developed his character and then the writing expects me to be devastated. Juri was more developed, sure, but we barely got any insight into her relationship with Leomon so her deep, dark depression doesn't feel super warranted either.
Ch. 23
I think this chapter was pretty well done. They're giving an epic battle it's time instead of zooming past it.
It bugs me that there isn't a specific name for digimon/human digivolutions. In this translation they called it a "true mega form." On the wiki it's called both an ultimate and a matrix digivolution. IDK why it doesn't count as a jogress. I guess there's like...two different things: the way you digivolve (matrix) and the digivolution level (ultimate)? If it's confusing for me, I can only imagine it'd be confusing for a kid.
It's a bit weird for an English translation, but I like that Guilmon says "MMA!" a lot. I can totally hear him making that noise with his OG voice. Creative onomatopoeia.
Ch. 24
Grrr Jian said "crumbcakes," so done with this stupid translation
This chapter was hella short, not much to say about it.
Ch. 25
Okay, now they're calling it a "biomerge digivolution." I guess the localizers also thought "this needs a cool name!"
Casual 90s/early 2000s sexism sprinkled throughout this translation. Takato says he "screams like a little girl" in a previous chapter and in this one he says "easy to forget Renamon and Rika are girls when they're always kicking butt!" Eye roll...
SaintGalgomon looked super badass but for some reason when Sakuyamon appeared they chose to dedicate two closeup panels to her chest and high heels? Sus...
Ch. 26
Juri's face didn't look as sinister here as it did in the anime (when it's revealed she's possessed). I guess that's probably a good thing. More subtle.
I don't remember the sovereign digimon giving Culumon a "you're a real boy now" speech in the anime. That was sweet.
They cut the part where Beelzebumon gets zapped by a bunch a digimon. In this he just collapses after the battle with Dukemon, which I think I prefer. (But why'd he say he'd be "bunny chow?" He wasn't even fighting Terriermon...)
Ch. 27
The grotesque, over-the-top facial expressions the artist keeps drawing for Hirokazu piss me off. They're just so ugly.
Ugh...they really had to ruin a serious moment (Guilmon getting the ark to stop) with a poop joke. This manhua does NOT treat its audience with respect.
Hmm they completely cut out Juri's family. So much for developing her character I guess.
They kind of forgot to imply that the ark is sentient. I mean they showed it stopping on its own, but in the anime they really hammered it home by having Guilmon have a conversation with it and showing it's HAL-like eye. That was one of my fave parts so I'm sad lol
Ch. 28
Okay, this is starting to feel totally different from the anime, they skipped like 5 episodes worth of content. Also, IDK if the scanlation I'm reading is missing some pages because the ending with Dukemon being beat up was completely nonsensical (it cut from Beelzebumon being hit to a panel with Dukemon outta nowhere?) I'll give it the benefit of the doubt that there are missing pages...
The scene where Beelzebumon uses Leomon's attack to save Juri played out differently here. She doesn't seem particularly perturbed by it and Beelzebumon can't save her because he gets attacked, not because Juri recoils for too long.
Ch. 29/30
Lol they completely cut out Justimon. Makes Ryo's role even more pointless! Ryo doesn't even reappear at all...
This manhua series was crap to begin with but they really screwed the pooch with this ending. SOOO rushed. Grani appeared outta nowhere with zero introduction. Like they just went immediately to Grani's sacrifice. I still don't know if I'm missing pages or if the writing is just that garbage. Oh well! I tried.

About 4 or 5 years ago I came across a short series called Shamanic Princess and was really enchanted by it. I wanted to to do at least a small write up on it because while it is only about 6 episodes the story is fairly concise. They pack a lot of atmosphere and interesting design/worldbuilding in just a few episodes and it's just really nice. It's not a perfect series by any means but if you're looking for something with interesting character work to check out, this is one I'd recommend and say has the biggest draw because of how the characters bounce off each other. Right now it's available on Crunchyroll but if you're resourceful I'm sure you can find somewhere else if you need to!
Tumblr media
The anime today is Shamanic Princess, a short OVA series by Triangle Staff. There was a short time where Crunchyroll had gotten a bunch of older anime and so I decided I’d check some of them out. This was one I appealed to me because of how few episodes it happened to have, I assumed it may have been something similar to Blue Submarine, where it was a series cancelled before it was done or rushed but the story seems to have a complete round out. As most OVAs go, the experimentation of animation, unique storyline, and overall production makes for a really compelling short series overall. It takes it’s own fun spin on the magical girl genre too taking the “magic” part to be almost tangible rituals.
From a very ominous start we’re introduced to the world of magic that shamanic princess is takes place in with almost persona like shadows lurking about. Tiara, our protagonist, seems to be on alert yet also a bit bratty in some ways too, almost princess like, especially so for a college student. Following what turns out to be a bad scouting mission, Tiara returns home to her “castle” to sleep. The big draw from here on is the missing parts of the story, Tiara is on a mission to “capture” Sarah, whom she almost somberly confronts in her dreams. The next morning she is transferring into a new college, meets an old rival, Lena, to whom we find is also well aware of what Tiara’s mission seems to revolve around. The most OVA like part of this episode comes in this following night. The characters have what seems like a playful rivalry and it only comes to confirm that the characters are not just rivals in this mission but enemies. They fight harshly with spirit creatures they summon and begin to ramp up the fight only for Tiara to be interrupted by Kagetsu, the man who has stolen the Throne of Yord and is using it on Sarah. He doesn’t enter the conversation, or conflict, beyond impeding Tiara. It’s after when Tiara retreats and Lena approaches Kagetsu that their alliance is confirmed and that Lena lays forth that she’ll kill Tiara if she needs to. The episode concludes with a follow up fight where Tiara finally goes to her full power.
A lot of the formula between this episode and the next is this power play. Tiara and Lena going back and forth between their fight and feelings for Kagetsu’s situation. Tiara is the obviously more powerful to Lena and yet Lena is the one standing by Kagetsu. In time we also learn that Kagetsu and Lena were is love, that something separated them and now Kagetsu has taken something from their magical society that is powerful enough to put all three in this conflict. Fairly obviously I suppose, this leads to a love Triangle of sorts, not just where the girls find conflict in love for Kagetsu but where they find the idea of love in eachother similarly. In a lot of ways this is also what kept me around in the story where I could understand each characters desire for connection and love in the way they’ve seen it through each other.
I really love the overall atmosphere through the story though. Theres this feeling of almost cyclical longing throughout the the atmosphere of the story, whether it’s romantic, nostalgic or just to connect with someone in general. Everyone feels lost in there sense of what they want and unsure, yet they know there is something they feel a longing for. In the classes there are two particular moments where this longing is somewhat reflected between Lena and Tiara. When Tiara watches Lena in class, it’s while they have a lecture on the beauty in conceptual ideas like functionalism and rationalism, Tiara even later reflecting she envied Lena, likely for that sense of maturity she emanates and natural sense for logic. Likewise when Lena looks to Tiara they have a lecture on the greek story of Daphne, the nymph turned to a tree. In it Apollo is plauged by cupid’s curse to pursue Daphne who is uniterested in him. In a final act she calls to her father a river god and asks for his help. In hopes that it will save her from Apollo’s pursuit, her father turns her to a tree. Although Lena’s power better fits the story of the girl turned to a tree, I think that Lena’s view on Kagetsu is what’s really in reference here. Lena feels this ever present longing of affection and desire and sees that in Kagestu. Yet it seems that Kagestu only has affection for Tiara and so Lena is left alone with that desire. Even when Lena’s thinking of Kagestu though, there is this feeling of Tiara being the focus of it. She knows the place of Tiara’s affection among the sibilings and recognizes that Tiara did her best to accept Lena into that space. As a result I feel both’s feelings end up being more about eachother than their situation, where they envy the other’s ability to react a certain way to their predicament and as a result pursue that for themselves in the series. They strive to better themselves by becoming eachother in some ways, they see what the other does wrong and yet also see everything that is wonderful about them.
The story definitely tries to rush it’s climax. Just as the story pushes it’s emotional confrontation it spends too much time overexplaining why it is emotional. It tries to play with it as being a taunt from the Throne but it takes so much time and limits so much of the action that it ends up falling flat. It should also be noted a lot of the reviews and notes on this series you’ll see likely say things along the lines of “watch episode 5 and 6 first then 1-4” but I’d say that isn’t necessary. In some ways it spoils the mystique and focus on the emotional story telling of episodes 1-4. You don’t truly have to understand the backstory to understand the emotional stakes of a story. Those episodes are still worth the watch, just don’t feel too pressured to do it in the “5-6, 1-4” order because people say it should have been done that way. You honestly could watch just the first 4 episodes and feel like you have a classic OVA experience of a short contained story by the same logic of watching them out of order. But I’d still recommend it if you like “dark magical girl” as an aesthetic, it’s not too dark but still carries a good maturity in it’s story telling with interesting magical elements. If you have the time and just want to try an older anime, I’d say this is an interesting one to check out.

Episode 2: Hollow Chesstion
(Open right where the previous Episode left off)
POMNI:
What the f[×%÷]
JAX:
That thing looks INSANE…(he paused) Let's go kick its butt!
Ragatha:
Jax, are you insane we can't just go and attack things. We don't even know how to use our magic and weapons yet.
JAX:
Surprisingly enough Rags, I don't think I need help using a sword and shield.
POMNI:
That..may be the case. But um.. you can't defeat that thing on its own…so.. maybe that Bubble thing can help?
RAGATHA:
It's worth a shot.
(Despite her best attempts, Pomni struggled to get Bubble summoned.)
(After a few moments she..got it. Bubble popped into existence)
BUBBLE:
HELLO! Who are you people?
POMNI:
Um… well I'm Pomni and these are my friends Ragatha and Jax…
BUBBLE:
Wow! Well I'm Bubble! What am I doing outside?
RAGATHA:
Well, Caine said you can help us on an adventure.
BUBBLE:
I can help with that! Just reach inside my mouth!
(Pomni and Ragatha look at each other in confusion while Bubble is floating with her mouth wide open)
JAX:
Relax girls, it can't be that bad. (Jax stuck his hand into bubbles mouth.)
(After a bit Jax pulled out a potion)
JAX:
Alright this doesn't help us right now but that's handy.
RAGATHA:
Bubble, it's awful nice of you to help us, but…isn't there some other way we can…get items and request from you?
BUBBLE:
OH YEAH!! You can tell me what you want and um, I'll listen!
POMNI:
Alright, let's start with that thing.(She points to the massive glitch mess down the way.)
BUBBLE:
That thing is scary! It's a creation of The Dark One! It's called an Abstraction. You guys have to defeat it!
POMNI:
Well we're dead.
BUBBLE:
Nonsense. With your combined power you'll definitely defeat it!
POMNI:
Can… you help us defeat it?
BUBBLE:
I suppose I can, but just this once cuz it's your first time! Otherwise, I'll only be available out of battle or IN battle for items!
JAX:
Fair enough. Let's go!
(Throughout the town Bubble gives them a tutorial on fighting gloinks and small abstracted creatures such as a small sock puppet, a dog, a jester/clown and a giant bulky one with a big eye. During that time, The Squad leveled up a bit and Bubble explained that to them.)
(They finally came to a boss that was a giant worm[Gloink Queen] and Bubble helped them there too)
BUBBLE:
Oooh, Bosses are tougher luckily this is a mini boss. I bet if you defeat The Gloink Queen, you'll get a bunch of EXP!!
JAX:
Heck yeah! Let's kick this Worms a[$%]
BUBBLE:
Yes, but please do not curse you're not on that level yet.
JAX:
Huh?
(They had all approached the Gloink Queen and she started some speech)
GLOINK QUEEN:
IMBECILES, YOU DARE STAND BEFORE THE ALMIGHTY GLOINK QUEEN?!
JAX:
I mean yeah, you're kinda in the way.
RAGATHA:
Don't be mean, Jax. Miss, if you'd kindly not give us any trouble, we'll be on our way.
GLOINK QUEEN:
NONSENSE, you measly peasants! Defeat me then you shall pass!
(ENTER BATTLE)
GLOINK QUEEN:
Bow before me!
POMNI'S TURN
POMNI:
Uhh Bubble? Is this any different than a normal fight?
BUBBLE:
Nope! Just more health and deals more damage! Don't die, call me when you need it okay?
POMNI:
Gee thanks. (Pomni ran up and hit Gloink Queen with The Keyblade)
-20 HP- GLOINK QUEEN
(After an immense battle and Pomni near death, they defeated the Gloink Queen)
Bubble:
Wow! That's a lotta XP! You can also upgrade yourself or another party member!
JAX:
Ooh ohh! Pom, pick me.
RAGATHA:
Oh hush Jax. Pomni, you should see if you can upgrade your health or damage.
POMNI:
Y-yeah.. I'll do that.
BUBBLE:
Works out you have two skill points!(Bubble pops a few bubbles that she summoned around her.)
And done! Pomni now has 500 HP AND 210 DAMAGE POINTS!
JAX:
Good on ya I guess…(Jax glanced over to where The Gloink Queen was. There was a chest with a keyhole) Hey look! Treasure!(He rushed over to it trying to open it)
RAGATHA:
It's got a lock, genius. Why don't you let Pomni try?
(After Jax moved Pomni unlocked it with the Keyblade)
JAX:
What's inside??
(POMNI LOOKED DISGUSTED AS SHE PULLED OUT SOME SLIMY GUTS)
BUBBLE:
OOH gross!! You got Gloink Guts! You can sell that to my shop or any marketplace in any world!
(There was also some gold in the chest and a charm for the keyblade of a Gloink)
(The Squad begins to fight their way to The Town Square finding hidden treasures, till they finally make it, Pomni unlocked a big padlock blocking the Town Square.)
(Before them stood a massive towering abstracted blob)
POMNI:
Isn't…Isn't this like THE FIRST BOSS?!
BUBBLE:
Don't worry you guys got this!
(They didn't. In fact the squad died multiple times. They went back to grind levels and exp to gain more HP, MP And DP)
(When they finally did they got even more XP and a surprise visit from Caine.)
KING CAINE:
Great job! You've actually saved Hollow Chesstion-
JAX:
Wait, if it's called Hollow Chesstion, shouldn't you be like.. a chess piece or-
KING CAINE:
That's not relevant to the plot yet! Anywho, The Dark One isn't here so that can only mean one thing.
RAGATHA:
What?
KING CAINE:
The Dark One must've planted that abstracted mess and left! I've given Bubble a plethora of worlds he may have gone to! Post haste though, the fate of the Digitalverse is in your very capable hands, Pomni, Jax and Ragatha! (He disappeared)
POMNI:
…..

So.
That was a hell of a thing.
I’m honestly impressed by how many times that managed to punch me in the heart, in different ways— with love, with fear, with fury, with achy mourning.
This wrap-up post is super belated, and some of it was written right after I first watched the ep, and some a good two months later, so I apologize if it’s a little scattered. What an episode, though.
There are definitely places where you can feel the pain of the compression. Both montages felt like they could have filled whole episodes on their own, and the map in a box under the floorboards is weirdly convenient— I’d love to know why it’s there, who put it there, why it’s encoded as a rebus, why there are apparently a bunch of rebuses in Old Gravesfield, and I know that stuff is all going to be left up to speculation. Speculation is fun, and I don’t think everything ever needs an explicit explanation— in fact, it’s a pet peeve of mine when people treat “wasn’t spelled out explicitly” as equivalent to “plot hole”— but this does feel like something they could have gone into more deeply if they’d had time.
That said, damn it was good. They didn’t just make the best of what they had, they made something genuinely fantastic. The kids settling in— everything from Amity’s awkward tea attempt to Willow becoming a Polaroid nerd (hey, didn’t I have in my headcanons/designs post that she’d keep a meticulous journal to show her dads when they got back?) was fantastic, Gus’s conflicting joy at seeing the realm he’d been so curious about and achy sadness missing his dad, there’s so much rich loam there for both wacky shenanigans and angsty character exploration and they managed to hit on both at least a little in the time, which, damn. Kudos.
Luz is such a good protagonist, such a good character, I really love her. Her depression throughout this episode hurt in a really accurate way; she was spiraling and hating herself while at the same time loving her family and her friends, she was struggling to work up the energy to be excited about a couples’ cosplay that would have had her bouncing off the walls a couple months before, she was trying to do what she thought was right even though that was dramatically warped by where her brain was at that point. It would have helped no one for her to stay in the Human Realm. If she was thinking clearly, she’d have known that, and she was very obviously not thinking clearly. It’s, uh, relatable. Not to put too fine a point on it, but the belief that the ones you love will be better off without you is one that’s really hard to shake.
The whole possession thing with Hunter… god. It’s such a visceral horror, being taken over from the inside out, dragged forcibly back into the old you even after you worked so hard to become someone better, someone you like to be. That Little Blond Puritan Clone Boy Cannot Catch a Break, except that he did, for most of the episode, and it was really wonderful to watch him being happy. Let the boy nerd out and cosplay and wear a homemade three wolf moon tee and and cherish the fuck out of his pet bird and fuck around at a thrift store wearing a goofy cardinal kigurumi and pick up a hobby. He’s a seventeen year old kid, he’s spent most of his life as a child soldier for his abusive uncle, and he got to flourish, for a bit. He got to thrive. He got friends, and a family, and a break.
Gus was awesome with him all episode, by the way. Repeatedly dropping hints that he already knows about the Grimwalker thing, not pushing him to explain, just being there for him and encouraging him. What a good friend.
(Side note, I love it when characters who have spent a lot of time together have similar speech patterns, so even though it’s painful as hell when that’s not a healthy relationship it was kind of amazing to hear Hunter go “up-bup-bup-bup spoileeeers!!” and think about Belos doing the dismissive “up-bup-bup” back in YB,OS)
The possession itself (ha, I got off track, sorry) was so well handled to build the slow dread, the pierced finger, the eyes, the creep up the back of his jaw, the layering of the voice. I mentioned it as I was blogging, but the fact that Hunter’s voice remained present the whole time was a fantastically terrifying choice. The whole battle was so gorgeously done, not just the sequence with the incredible animation (though that was definitely a highlight) but the way Belos gloated, his skill at saying exactly the right thing at the right time to fuck with his opponents, and Hunter’s desperate push to tell him exactly what he wanted and try to get rid of him, his own safety notwithstanding.
Honestly, Camila was the MVP of the episode. I loved the deeper dive into her character, the fact that she’s so much more like her daughter than we thought, the issues she had in school and how they were used to manipulate her with her desire to give Luz a better life… but more than her backstory, what made her so wonderful is the woman she is now. Her immediate acceptance of the witchlings, her steady research to try and figure out how to best care for them and for her queer daughter, putting in the work, the coupons, oh ow the coupons, her blasé willingness to find some blood if that’s what they need, her fierce protectiveness, her strong will. It was honestly a delight to get to know her better, and I’m so glad she’ll be there for what comes next.
I think that’s all I have to say right now— one of the side effects of it taking me so dang long to write a proper wrap-up is that I’ve made posts (and written fic) about several of the other things I was thinking about, ha.
I was holding out on checking with my screener about asks until I made myself write this up, so I’ll do that now; if y’all sent me any, I’ll answer them soon <3

✨I’m gonna make this and no one can stop me!!✨
I decided to listen to the first episode of campaign 3 again because I had nothing else to do and I realized that Bell’s Hells are actually a bit different from where they first started.
It’s of course character development and the players getting comfortable playing their new characters, but I thought about how much the characters have changed from episode 1 all the way to now.
Obviously not every character has been through the same amount of growth throughout to campaign so far, but these are some of the things I personally noticed.
(Feel free to add in case I missed something. This is just what my brain has observed)
Ashton
Then:
- Was distrustful
- Only did things for money
- Wasn’t sure how to feel about FCG
Now:
- Would murder anyone for FCG
- Greatly cares for their friends
- Is willing to give people a chance (but if you fuck it up you are not getting a second one)
- Most likely has abandonment issues
Laudna
Then:
- Living life to fullest and having fun
- Is not actually as scary as she seems
- Probably alright being a little off putting
Now:
- Is dealing with so much trauma and is trying to cope with it
- Doesn’t want anything to happen to the first person that actually gave her a chance in years
- Is actually really scary and maybe doesn’t want to be?
FCG
Then:
- Little ball of sunshine
- No thoughts, head empty
- Wants to help anyway they can
Now:
- Is having an existential crisis because their whole life was a lie
- Is now slowly dealing with burnout, but doesn’t know how to handle it
- Is not only dealing with his trauma, but his friends trauma as well (It’s taking a number on him)
- Is still coming to terms with the fact that he might actually be sentient and a living creature
Imogen
Then:
- Is more shy and tries to hide herself
- Soft spoken
- Doesn’t like swearing
- Doesn’t know how to feel about all the new voices in her head now that she’s traveling with more people
Now:
- Is more assertive (with a soft voice still)
- More confident and vibrant, but still stays quiet when need be
- Literally swears every other sentence
- Is a badass and also terrifying
Fearne
Then:
- Does things because she feels like it
- Is here for the chaos
- Is full of love and support
Now:
- Is still very similar, but she’s trying to figure things out
Orym
Then:
- Parent of the group
- There to protect others (He’s a guard so it makes sense)
- Seems well put together
Now:
- Is dealing with the grief of loosing his husband
- Is paranoid that something could happen to the group
- Is starting to lean back and be an older sibling rather then a parent
Chetney
Then:
- Crazy old gnome man
- Silly goofy werewolf (Recognize the Alpha)
- Is a bit lonely
Now:
- Is still a silly old gnome werewolf
- Genuinely cares about his friends even though he may seem cruel
Dorian
Then:
- Cheerful bard having a good time
- Cares deeply for his friends
- Is a dork
Now:
- Is a runaway prince
- Just wants to be free
- Doesn’t want to be something he’s not
TL;DR
Traumatized and neglected people from across Exandria felt lost and alone, but found a group of weirdos like them. Now they can all grow and learn to be themselves without fear.
(The fact that so much development has already happened in less then 30 episodes is amazing. They all bring out the best in each other.
And because Bell’s Hells are so genuine and caring towards weirdos and others who don’t fit in, it lead them to being manipulated by someone who used them for their own personal gain without a care for the Hells’ wellbeing.)
They’re just a bunch of weirdos, and weirdos have to stick together.

PLL Original Sin - Intro Song
Time for - I hyper-fixated and overanalyzed the Intro scene with the Masked Man (Referred to as "MM" because I don't - like many - believe him to be "A"). Here, are a few things that I observed (Warning: It's a lot)
"MM" has a copy of Imogen's sonogram in addition to a picture of her. -> Implication: She is the only one of the girls who has something extra along with their picture.
“MM” has a missing person’s flyer for Mouse, which lists her DOB as 3/13/92, which is March 13th, 1992. -> Implication: If that’s Mouse’s real DOB, then she’d be 30 years old. The girls (who are 15-16 years old) would have been born in 2004/2005. Episode 1x07 has scene in 2012 and this episode is centered around Mouse. If she were born in 1992, she would be 20 in 2012, which doesn’t match up for being kidnapped. If she were born in 2004/2005, she would be 7 years old. Whatever this is supposed to mean, I don’t think it’s actually Mouse’s birthday. But perhaps, it’s in reference to something about Angela or “MM”. Because Angela was born in 1982, so in 1992, she would have been 9/10 which would make more sense.
There is a shot where "MM" is pulling angrily at some pears and there appears to be a small section of white skin peaking from underneath his sleeve (pictured below). -> Conclusion: "MM" is Caucasian.
Tumblr media
The Briefcase Contents (Picture Below)
Top Left Lid: Picture of Imogen and her mother hugging each other. (Appears in 1x01)
Bottom Left Lid: Unknown photograph.
Top Center Lid: Mirror.
Top Right Lid: The Ticket for the Halloween Horror-O-Thon for "October 31" "Afternoon Matinee" "3:00 PM". (Seen in 1x05)
Bottom Right Lid: A note that says, “YOU’RE A BAD MOTHER” (that will appear in either 1x06 or 1x07) pinned using a safety pin.
Top Left Bottom: Old doll.
Center Bottom: Spirit Queen Crown (From 1x02)
Top Right Bottom: Pink diary/journal (Davies, from 1x04)
Then some jewelry randomly everywhere, mostly pearls
You can also notice, off to the side some other interesting things. For instance, Imogen's polaroid is clearly right above the briefcase. There is the bloody ballerina shoe from 1x01 and it's covering what appears to be what might be the news article that Imogen found in 1x03 about Angel's body being found. Also, a bunch of camera equipment (because it wouldn't be PLL without weirdness)
Tumblr media
The Journal Entries - There are 3 separate journal entries seen throughout the intro. They are some of the ones I imagine Imogen found ripped out of her mother's journal (seen above)
Journal Entry #1: Is seen a few times throughout the intro. All together, it says, “October” “The girls-” “I have a new project” _ “Angela Waters” “_I got put in the same lab group as her today and she is just as tragic” _ “athletic dose of” “far away,” “something a(j)-” “-nd of…(” “-nd little wet” “innocent” “want to die _ she” “doesn’t (wise, she didn’t drink or smoke”. -> Implication: I would gleam that Angela and Davie first began to interact in October after they got placed in the same lab together. Which would make sense, since the girls' told her that Halloween was an "initiation".
Journal Entry #2: It says, “December 31 1999” at the top. “It’s the last day of the millennium!!!!! People on the news on(?) kids baggin cause they’re worried all the computers in the world might crash or something when the year starts. I don’t really ?_ but I guess ? lot.”
Journal Entry #3: Only has the date, "Jan 3, 2000". -> Implication: Depending on how you want to consider "2 days later", this could have been when Angela's body was found. No wonder Davie would want to get rid of it or "MM" would want it.

DO IT I would love to hear your thoughts on Santa Baby (GCV)
OKAY so I mostly just wanna hear others' thoughts lol but my side of things is that the Madonna cover came on the radio and I just started thinking about how bizarre the GCV is? Bizarre on many levels, but in a curious way. Starting with the fact that it was cut but occupies a rather unique, canon-like place in people's minds as far as I can tell. And sure, that's because it was a fully filmed scene and because it's a Santana solo who is, without her big feature, sorely missing from the special.
But like, first off, having Santana sing this. It makes perfect sense and yet it doesn't. Naya nails it because of course she does and, at first glance, the song fits Santana. But that's just it, at first glance. Because Santa Baby is such a horny song about materialism and you know, all the connotations of those two things together. The trophy wife anthem? Maybe, something like that. And Santana is hypersexualized throughout this show with only the occasional self-awareness, but doesn't it feel extra weird to have her sing this to a bunch of salesmen just after having been outed as a lesbian to the state of Ohio?
Oh, and about that, the context of the scene. Many more layers here too because first of all, suspension of disbelief being higher in holiday specials and all but really, Santana singing this diegetically to a bunch of adult salesmen to... get a discount? What is this context. I remember being weirded out when I first watched the scene on youtube. Again, suspension of disbelief and this being Glee after all but this is such a lame excuse for a solo, and not the least bit borderline creepy. Santana's positioned as the one with the power in this situation, as she so often is in sexual situations with men. And make no mistake, this is a sexual situation, just a holiday edition. So she's positioned as having power, but am I supposed to believe the salesmen and the speaking one in particular was so impressed/horny that she was just... given a discount? Rip to me because maybe I'm just too asexual for this but it always came across as so awkward to me. Ngl, maybe the reason it was cut.
youtube
And then! And then, the Finn of it all. That Santana spends her free time shopping with Finn, for Rachel. The implications. The way this episode portrays Rachel's materialism as such a negative. The way they try to paint Santana as this shallow bitch, too, and yet she's kind enough to accompany Finn and help out of the goodness of her heart. I feel like I never use that phrase genuinely but no, really, it is out of the goodness of her heart. Santana's doing both halves of Finchel a favour. And, once again, this is just after her outing. You know, the one I'll always hate Finn for. So this buddy buddy scene between Finntana is already weird on that account because whatever IKAG tried to sell us, it's not like these two have ever been Christmas shopping together levels close.
In fact! The Santa Baby scene is arguably the one and only true Finntana friendship scene. The only one that has a strictly platonic context, the only one with just the two of them one-on-one, and crucially the only one where they aren't discussing Finn having outed her in the hallway of a conservative small town's homophobic high school. Finntana have no friendship scenes. Whatever happened ins season 3A, and trust me I'll never forgive never forget, this was the one opportunity to establish an actual Finntana friendship. And it's deleted. And it's in the context of Finchel. But also the context of Santana being a good friend, even to the one person she should, by all means, despise the most.
For the record, I very much doubt any thought was put into this scene. I think the thought process behind it pretty much boiled down to: a) Finn shopping for Rachel scene, and b) haha Santana sexy lady sing Santa Baby! Without much consideration of the incredibly complicated dynamic of Finn and Santana. Because the focus is Finchel, but it'd be cool if Santana sang, and she's materialistic anyway so this works out. And she's weaponized her sexuality to gain an advantage before so this works. But as my rambly mind has tried to explain on this fine Christmas Eve, there are so many levels to this. The Yikes factor of the sexiness. Santana's queerness being ignored for the sake of the scene, but being present nonetheless as we know it is a part of her. The scene involving Finn freaking Hudson, of all people. A representation of how little power Santana's actually had in the narrative of her own sexuality, if there ever was one. The "all the fellas I haven't kissed" line. I'm going feral over all of it. And I'm sure it's clear that I'm not doing so in a comprehensive way lol.
So, I mean, this is why I need Santa Baby discourse because there are so many layers of this from the song choice to Santana's perception as a hypersexualized teen and, of course, the Finn of it all. And I have too many half-baked thoughts to be able to make sense of this. Maybe we don't need to make sense of it. Most probably, in fact. But what the hell, I wanna.
To be clear, I don't think it should have been cut. And sure, that's the ardent Santana stan in me talking, but it is what it is.

The Mehness of Obi-Wan
Now that I’ve seen the whole thing, the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series was... well, at times it was fine. And at other times it was very irritating. Overall, I’d say “mild miss.”
It would’ve benefitted a LOT from being cut down to about two hours in length. Maybe two and a half. So: A movie. That could’ve been cool.
Tumblr media
Sundry Thoughts Under the Cut:
- When they first announced that Vader would be in this and Christensen would be returning, I figured there was only ONE reason to bring Obi-Wan and Vader back together before their fateful meeting in Episode IV: You can finally explain that moment in Return of the Jedi when Vader tells Luke that “Obi-Wan once thought as you do.” In other words, you tell the story of Obi-Wan trying to save Vader’s soul and failing. It’s been the most infamous question mark hanging over the continuity of the OT since 2005. But guess what? This Disney+ series makes absolutely no attempt to address it. Which boggles my mind.
- You’ve probably heard by now that the real stars of this show are Ewan MacGregor as Obi-Wan and Moses Ingram as the new character of Reva, aka “Third Sister” in the Inquisition. And I can’t fault the performances on these two whatsoever. They do amazing work throughout. Both of them are clearly invested in these characters and completely bringing their best to the table. It’s just that the material isn’t always worthy of them.
- Obi-Wan spends half the series as a total fuck-up until the moment when he instantly, inexplicably isn’t anymore.
Remember how, at the end of Revenge of the Sith, Yoda was going to tell Obi-Wan how to commune with Qui-Gon, and Yoda said Qui-Gon would then train him while he was in hiding? Well, when this series opens, we quickly learn that Obi-Wan hasn’t managed to speak to Qui-Gon even ONE time. He hasn’t seen him or heard him at all. And he also hasn’t trained whatsoever. For ten. fucking. years.
This subsequently leads into him spending three and a half episodes just completely sucking. He doesn’t know how to successfully disguise himself, he doesn’t know how to keep up a cover story, he doesn’t know how to fight with a lightsaber or even use the force anymore. He’s total rubbish! Except, weirdly, when it comes to guns? He actually kinda kicks ass with a blaster now — you know, the weapon Obi-Wan always considered to be “uncivilized”? No idea when he started training heavily on those things, but ok.
ANYWAY, this all reaches Peak Embarrassment when Obi-Wan confronts Vader for the first time. He draws his lightsaber, but then he gets scared and opts to simply run away. Or he TRIES to run away. Like a methodical slasher villain, Vader doesn’t even have to run to magically catch up. Eventually, Obi-Wan has no choice but to very poorly attempt to block Vader’s lightsaber attack. Without explaining the entire climax, suffice it to say that ol’ Ben gets REAMED.
But then the fourth episode comes along. Near the start of the episode, we see Obi-Wan trying to pull a small object towards himself with the Force, but he can’t do it. He can only bring it like halfway across the table with difficulty. But then his mission to sneak into an underwater facility begins, and... he just instantly gets his mojo back! He can use his lightsaber like a pro. He can deflect blaster bolts back at stormtroopers. He can perform mind tricks. It’s not explained at all; he just suddenly is great at everything again. And he continues to be completely badass at all things for the rest of the series without anyone ever trying to explain the shift. What the fuck is that?!
- Sadly, Reva isn’t all that well-written for a bunch of reasons. Moses Ingram is bringing her A-game, and they let her down. She’s got a cool backstory and awesome underlying motivations, yet her actions often make no sense.
In the third episode, she somehow easily senses the exact building where Obi-Wan is hiding amidst an entire town - when even Vader himself didn’t sense it or find it, just walked right past it! And then she instantly figures out that this same building contains a secret door that leads to an “underground railroad”-esque hiding spot for Jedi - even though numerous imperials have been through here and seen nothing at all, and there are no people hidden within (so she can’t be sensing any life forms).
In the fifth episode, she finally is given the opportunity to do what she’s been pursuing for most of her life. All of her careful planning has led to this. So she naturally waits until the worst moment and takes action as stupidly as possible. .... Maybe the pressure of having decades of her life lead up to a single moment in time just got the better of her?
Tumblr media
The worst instance of all this, though, are the CRAZY leaps of logic she takes in the very last episode. Based on some broken-up audio she hears at the tail end of the fifth episode, she somehow figures out things that she should have no way of knowing. But of course, she’s completely right. And she then pursues an objective that makes no sense and is completely out of character for who she’s established to be. Until at the end of the episode, she suddenly stops and... I guess remembers what her motivation actually fucking was? God, it is INFURIATING. If she ever appears in this franchise again, I hope they can try to give us some sort of retroactive justification for her actions in that last ep.
- The show would be a lot shorter if it didn’t spend so much time spinning its wheels. Sometimes they just repeat plot beats and sequences in a new setting, presumably because they figure the setting will be enough to make it seem different.
In Episode 2, Obi-Wan must rescue little Leia from captivity and then evade a bunch of stormtroopers hunting them while they make their way to a ship to escape. In Episode 4, Obi-Wan must rescue little Leia from captivity and then evade a bunch of stormtroopers hunting them while they make their way to a ship to escape.
In Episode 5, Obi-Wan and the nascent Rebellion are cornered by the Empire, and Obi-Wan determines that he must appear to give himself up in order to serve as distraction that will let the Rebels get away. Ah! but then, in Episode 6, Obi-Wan and the nascent Rebellion are cornered by the Empire, and Obi-Wan determines that he must appear to give himself up in order to serve as a distraction that will let the Rebels get away.
- Speaking of the actors, Hayden Christensen does amazing work in the Vader suit. I know it’s basically just a form of mime, but his movements look so powerful and threatening throughout. He also gets to reprise pre-burn Anakin in some flashback images courtesy of some digital de-aging, so that was cool. And on the topic of Anakin/Vader, I can’t believe how outstanding James Earl Jones still sounds at age 91?! I saw some rumors online that he might’ve been digitally enhanced beyond just the usual Vader reverb, but... either way, holy shit.
- One of the best moments in the show is probably Ewan’s reaction when he hears that Anakin/Vader is actually still alive. But I must admit that I was confused that Obi-Wan would be stunned by this information. I mean... he sees that Palpatine was calling Anakin “Lord Vader” even before their Mustafar duel. Did he forget that name, or did he somehow just never hear about the existence of a “Darth Vader” terrorizing the damn galaxy?
- I wasn’t too sure about Vivien Lyra Blair as Leia when the series started, but she establishes that she’s up to it fairly early on. I was ultimately quite happy and impressed with her.
- Lola is an adorable design, and also VERY marketable. But if we’re going to be seeing droids hanging  around the Organa residence, shouldn’t we have seen R2 and/or Threepio... ?
- I definitely did not expect Owen and Beru to get some pretty badass scenes? And actually do some fighting? Unexpected, but the writers and fight choreographers made it make sense. Although both Owen and Beru are willing and capable of standing up for themselves, the show doesn’t try to make them secret warriors or anything. They’re still just a couple of people trying to defend a farm for their family’s sake.
- I can’t argue much with the final battle between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. It’s cool to see. It would’ve been much more resonant if they had used “Battle of the Heroes” or “Duel of the Fates” in the score somewhere, though.
Tumblr media
- Before the final battle, Obi-Wan says this is it - this is where one of them will have to die for the other to live. And yet! When Obi-Wan kicks Vader’s ass, he just looks him in the eye and... leaves. He leaves this former friend of his, who he saw casually killing innocent civilians one by one back in Episode 3, to continue his reign of terror. Obi-Wan, you absolute fool. You’re now basically responsible for everyone Vader kills for the next ten years! You know that, right?!  You stood there and watched Vader walk down a line of innocent civilians’ houses as he killed them one by one in an attempt to draw you out. You KNOW what this dickcheese is capable of! Christ... if the writers didn’t have any logical excuse for why this would happen, they should’ve rethought the whole goddamn sequence.

A Place Further Than the Universe (finale)
Tumblr media
[In your face! In your face! In your face!]
This was such an amazing last few episodes, especially 12 and 13. I love that not everything miraculously turned "perfect" for the girls as they set out for the trip to Antarctica. They all clashed and faced challenges not only with the trip but with their friendships as well.
Hinata and Shirase arguing about the lost passport is a clear example of how much they all have grown to care about each other. Despite Hinata insisting the others go on without her, Shirase stands her ground and says that they have to do this together and uses all of her money to get new tickets. Shirase, who kept to herself a lot at the beginning, has shown so much growth in communicating and opening up to those who care for her.
Yuzuki and Kimari also had their own troubles in regard to their friendship. Yuzuki has spent all her life in the spotlight with not a single friend by her side, so it made sense for her to doubt her friendship with the others. After all the avoiding and talking it out, however, Yuzuki was surprised with a cake by the three others for her birthday. Seeing her reaction to having spent a birthday with actual friends for the first time was extremely heartwarming.
The main focus for these last few episodes was definitely Shirase and her accepting reality. All she wanted was to find anything of her mother. The whole reason that all of this is happening is that Shirase was so determined from the start to go on this trip. She worked so hard and endured all the ridicule from everyone. Seeing her having to deal with denial and grief throughout the series was extremely hard to watch, but she had a solid friendship with each of the other girls to get her through it. When they find her mom's laptop in episode 12, I broke down with the four protagonists. Seeing the emails load in was really a reminder that Shirase made it. Despite all her setbacks, she was able to push forward and meet her goal of going to the place where her mom had gone. The laptop symbolized acceptance for Shirase. Accepting that her mother is gone, but that she isn't alone. She has three amazing best friends who have done nothing but support her. The act of her giving the laptop to Gin and saying "I don't need it anymore" and her cutting her hair represents her starting a new chapter of her life. She was able to get closure and now she can go on and try new things.
Best "plot twist" was Shirase leaving behind the 1 million yen in the bunker. It was such a mic-drop moment for her. I think this act can be interpreted in a variety of ways, but I interpreted it as her final choice in that chapter of her life. For her, the money symbolized the driving force for the whole trip. She had worked so hard for it all for the trip, which was for her mother. Now that it's all over and she got the closure she needed, there is no more use for that money anymore. She had no materialistic need for money. It symbolizes her completely moving on and looking ahead to the future.
Overall, this show was full of a bunch of heartwarming themes and lessons that just about anyone can relate to it. We can all pick up a thing or two from this show and accept that we will always face hardships, but what matters is that you push forward and look toward the future. If you let these struggles consume you, you might miss out on the best years of your life.

Some Thoughts about New Girl
Tumblr media
Hello everyone,
I’ve been binging New Girl for the last 2 weeks now and I definitely recommend starting it if you haven’t watched it yet. I don’t know why I ignored it while it was on air but it was nice to watch it all together. First 3 seasons of it was the most I laughed in a really long time.
The characters are quirky, at first it is a bit hard to get into it but give it a chance. Once you get to know the characters and like them it becomes really funny really fast. First season just keeps getting better and better by the end. I absolutely loved its season finale.
It’s a show about friendship and all these weird people living together and caring for each other. Not much else to say without spoilers. Just go and watch it.
Now to the spoiler part: This is gonna be long, apologies in advance.
Now I said I love the show and I do but that doesn’t mean in later seasons there were no problems but I want to start with the positives.
Why I loved it so much: The characters are well done. They’re a bit much at first but once they grow on you, you get sucked into their silliness. I started to care for each of them like they cared for each other and it’s beautiful and hilarious to watch their reactions to each other. This loft dynamic they have is what makes the show so heart warming watch.
The reason why I say first 3 seasons and not all of it is my favourite: After that point I started to feel like these friends started to lose some characteristics of what made them so funny and lovable. I felt it started halfway into season 3 and Nick was the first to start losing some of his silliness, followed by Jess and the rest of the mains. They mellowed their characters down.
Career stuff: I remember one specific moment where I thought, this is why I love this show so much. This was when they made it clear that Nick wasn’t gonna become a lawyer. They didn’t try to make him a “success”, they explained it in an episode why he loves being a bartender. I thought, yes, we need more of this. Success is not fame, it’s not money, it’s doing what you love and being happy. This goal was different for all of them; Schmidt loved his job, he earned well but in the core it wasn’t about that for him. He loved it, he says it many times. I love that Winston tried a bunch of things to finally find the thing he wanted and was passionate about doing. Now Jess, she started off as a passionate teacher, she loved her job. After she got fired and found a job again as a teacher of kids, her school environment wasn’t the best. I feel like they missed an opportunity with her. There is an episode where she gets offered a job for something other than teaching and I felt that she needed to explore that option.
The relationships: I love their friendship dynamic. Every episode, different sets of them, do something funny and it is entertaining and hilarious to watch them fail at it.
Nick and Winston, Nick and Schmidt I love their throwbacks to their childhood or college years. I love that Schmidt and Winston became friends through Nick. Life took all of them to different directions and they are different people, still they have a bond and it’s beautiful to watch every episode. Same with Jess and Cece, they are different people but they have that same bond of friendship.
So Jess and Nick, I love their friendship. Throughout first 2 seasons I love how they communicated their attraction to each other. Even though Nick doesn’t do as much communicating as Jess. The times Nick refuses to talk is hilarious. The way they got together and struggled with getting to that point was well done. Their problem starts a few episodes into their relationship, at that point I started to feel like Nick’s character has started to disappear. Not as much in the first half of the season but more in the second half of season 3. We can argue that's the relationship changing him but he doesn’t get his character back after the break up either.
Following their break up, both of them have series of relationships with different people. This is where I feel like the writers missed a great opportunity: making them grow from these relationships and find their way back to each other. Right after their break up, both Nick and Jess actually date people who are similar to them. At that point I thought, hey now they’re gonna realize why it’s not that great to date someone so similar to you, even if not get back together, they at least acknowledge that fact. Needless to say I was disappointed one relationship after the other with those two. Both of them, learned absolutely nothing new about themselves from their failed relationships following their break up.
Jess had the easy way out of all of her post Nick relationships. Robby was her 3rd cousin, Sam found the love of his life, that British dude got his dream job and left with no fuss. Absolutely no drama and no learning something new about relationships or themselves. Same with Nick, he was the same person after each of his relationship but he was changing without their effect almost. He was just not the same and there was no reason for his change. Now I have a bone to pick with Reagan. She has no character, she has no emotion. She’s stoic and she's just there. I feel like with her writers relied too much on her being played by Megan Fox and didn’t feel like giving her a character. She just doesn’t fit in with this group of quirky people who care deeply for each other. Although at that point Nick, Jess and Schmidt was mellowed down considerably, she was still way too normal for the amount of screen time she had.
Cece and Schmidt’s relationship was handled better. They were on and off all the time and the attraction was there. I feel Cece lost her voice a bit after their relationship moved forward and she had more screen time. Or once she got more screen time I realised that she wasn’t as interesting as the rest of the group. One thing I praise is her relationship with Winston. Their friendship was very well done and one of the positives in the later seasons of the series.
I think Winston’s character improved as the show went on, unlike the first 3 I mentioned, he was handled a bit better. One thing is I got bored watching him with Aly because she felt disconnected from the group. For the amount of screen time she had, some of them should’ve been spent with the rest of the group without Winston to improve upon her character. If that was not gonna happen then I didn’t need to see the two of them so much.
Coach. I loved his character in the pilot and it was unfortunate he had to leave the show. It took time but I got warmed up to Winston and it was good. Bringing Coach back for more than a cameo was the prime problem for me in season 3. By season 4 the show just just got too crowded. Almost all of the characters had romantic interests, now there were 6 of them and it was too much. He definitely didn’t need to stay more than a few episodes. I felt the show got overwhelming and more like a chore than fun at that point. I think they realized it and that’s why he was out of the cast at the end of season 4.
When I look at the show overall, they never gave Jess and Nick enough time together after their break up. If they were done and wasn’t gonna get back together, this is fine, but they did end up together. They mostly acted like those 2 never loved each other, there was almost no attraction left between them after their break up. It just didn’t feel real that two people that loved each other so much could be that casual around each other while living in the same house. Since they ended up together in the series finale, I think all of their relationship post their break up, should’ve thought them why they should be together. Why did they break up? Jess planned everything and Nick didn’t want responsibility. I’m not saying they need to do a complete 180° and change, no. Mellow down just a little and accept each other for who they are. They had so many chances to learn this in their post-break up relationships but all of those were basically just a waste of time. I’m especially pissed about the 3rd cousin thing. If that was like a 2 or 3 episode thing it’s funny, move on, but they spent a lot of time on Robby and Jess which made that whole thing like a waste of time.
Nick and Jess getting back together felt very undeserved. In the end, they got together but not because they got to that point by learning they were the ones for each other through experiences. They got together because writers decided it was time. Just like their break up. They broke up because writers decided it was time. I always think that a show is not doing great when I start to see the writers making the decisions and not the characters.
I don’t know if Nick getting successful with his novel should’ve been the way to go with him, either. Season 1&2 Nick would be more than happy with just 10% of the bar and the little side job with Schmidt where they invented silly things and sometimes got little cash inflows. They could’ve easily co-owned the bar together by the end with that.
On the other hand I think Cece and Schmidt ended up in a more logical place. I can totally see Schmidt wanting to stay at home and spend time with her daughter because he didn’t have his father with him growing up. It just makes sense. I just imagine that would’ve been more satisfying to see if he had the bar and the inventing thing going on with Nick on the side.
Winston and Aly, sure I mean at one point the show got sucked into the TBBT trap of finding someone for everybody. They just wanted everyone to have a partner and a family and that was their view of happiness.
If it were up to me I’d finish the show earlier than this point and just left them at the loft together still doing the same thing. Giving all of them the suburban dream is not a happy ending because the show was about their friendship with each other, not their romantic relationships. I probably expected too much from the show because I loved the first seasons so much.
Overall if you've read this far, I don't think you'll regret watching the show.

Contrary to my expectations, I am more positive about Book 3 now that I have finished the show. What's quite unfortunate about Book 4 is that it has a very strong start but then loses its stakes once Korra has her breakthrough with Zaheer. It stops being about Korra from that point onward, and more about the merry bunch that has to stop Kuvira - and there's way too many characters involved in that for the show to give meaningful screentime to everyone.
I really wanted to like Book 4 considering its good start and focus on Korra's PTSD journey, but I think the final battle would have benefitted greatly from holding Korra's healing off until the very end. This is because the moment that happens there is no longer any tension left for the final battle; from then on it's a matter of when Korra will go into the Avatar State, not if. Consider Book 3, wherein it is uncertain until the final moment if Zaheer can even be defeated. The characters have to overcome a great difficulty, exacerbated by the fact that the usual ace is debilitated. With Kuvira, you kinda know beforehand that the characters will succeed, thus there isn't really any tension about the finale.
With the quality decline towards the end, you end up nitpicking at things you wouldn't have noticed otherwise. Once again what stands out is the way the season wastes time in some places and then speeds through things that needed more time. There are moments where I wish they would have spent more time on Korra's struggle to tap into her spirituality, and give her more time to struggle before she succeeds. Instead, the premature payoff leads to the show having to kill time on redundant moments. There are THREE gag characters this season (Varrick, Bolin, Wu). Someone in the writing team was really into this type of humour, but at some point it is overdone and beyond exhausting.
Watching the two books consecutively, I'm surprised that there is no mention of the Red Lotus before timeskip, considering that by the end of Book 3 they openly wonder if there are others out there. This seems like a missed opportunity to have a continued storyline, with the show instead opting to present a new threat. Though I can understand they made this choice so as to show that the world has tangibly changed since Korra left it behind, to not have any reference to the Red Lotus seems a bit at odds with how much their actions changed the world.
What Book 4 needed, in my opinion, was less time. I think they ended up with too much time on their hands and that's why the season ultimately suffers in the second half. Upon this rewatch I had the same feeling in my gut as I had a decade ago: "I literally don't care about how this ends." I was just waiting for things to get over with to make this post. That's just really unfortunate - watching a series finale should not feel like a chore.
So yeah, Book 3 is miles better than Book 4 simply because it keeps it stakes high until the end. In some regards they suffer from the same writing hiccups, but because the highs in Book 3 are consistent you are more likely to forgive the lesser parts. In retrospect, Book 3 should have been 20 episodes and resolved both season storylines.
A personal nitpick I've always had when LOK aired was the odd focus on Korra needing to suffer throughout the books to "learn". Each Book ending with Korra going through worse situations had a weird vibe of her needing to be knocked down a peg. Having skipped Book 2 and now watching 3 and 4, I retract some of my frustration about this. Looking at it now, Korra's arc through PTSD was a very beautiful thing to showcase - especially with her being a woman of colour. I see now that this storyline was quite unique at its time. That said, the final commentary on "needing to suffer" still rubs me the wrong way. There is suffering, and having to work through it to come out of it better, but an innate meaning to suffering itself feels very wrong to present.
And then there's Korrasami. It's clear that the ending improves the optics of Book 4, which would have otherwise ended in a very mundane and inconspicuous way. Instead, this ending is etched into collective history and opened many doors that brings us to where we are today in terms of representation. I've thought many times about the following thesis: Was it better to have the amazing LOK ending of Book 1 without Korrasami, or the okay LOK ending of Book 4 with Korrasami?
I've watched the series ending many times this past decade and it continues to be one of the most beautiful and emotional things out there. Yeah, I would have personally preferred a LOK that was consistent in its quality throughout. But had the team been given 4 seasons from the start, they probably would not have had the time to sit with the idea of Korrasami and gradually consider it seriously. If this is the hand the team was dealt, then I'm glad an 'okay' story was at least given the best ending possible.

My opinion on Doctor Who series 4.
This show is starting to take over my life. Help me. I was really invested in this season, and as always, I don’t have anyone to obsess with, so I’m putting it out into the void of Tumblr for hopefully someone to see.
I love Donna when she’s with The Doctor, otherwise she’s a bit of a prick. But, that’s not exactly a bad thing I guess. I like how she’s more outspoken compared to the other companions.
Episode 1: I enjoy watching Donna trying to find The Doctor. It’s pretty satisfying and annoying seeing them just slightly missing one another. The scene with them communication through the window was interesting to watch. And the fat babies are absolutely adorable!
Episode 2: Loved the setting. The history episodes are always interesting for me. I liked how The Doctor used the term Volcano Day here for the actual Volcano. The clothes look amazing! And I did not expect to see the 12th doctor this early on!
Episode 3: Ood. The Ood are cool.
Episode 4/5: I didn’t mind these episodes. They were alright. Wasn’t the person who played the smart kid in the later seasons of Horrible Histories? I find I recognise people if they were in Horrible Histories (yes, even from the later seasons, somehow).
Episode 6: I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS ONE! Georgia Tennant. She’s amazing. I knew she played The Doctor’s daughter, I just didn’t know exactly how that was going to have worked. It’s really interesting seeing David and Georgia interact in this episode. Did I cry? Heck yeah. I adore Jenny and I hope she comes in later seasons. It’s sweet seeing The Doctor interact with his daughter, especially knowing that he’s been a dad before.
Episode 7: I’ve never really looked into Agatha Christie’s works before, but I absolutely love the idea of doing a murder mystery with her. Loved the confrontation at the end as well. I need more of those. Also, the gay guys made me feel really sad. I spent the whole time hoping for them to be happy, but of course, one of them had to die :(
Episodes 8/9: The library is a cool idea as well as the creature who live in the shadows. If they were put in a more realistic situation, I’m pretty sure I’d get nightmares from them. River Song is an interesting character. I’m not particularly a fan at the moment for some reason, but I’m interested in her story (especially that she said The Doctor’s name). One thing I do love about her is that we see her ending first. We know what happens to her before we really know who she is. It’s also nice that she’s got a somewhat happy ending. And, as I was saying before, if someone’s on Horrible Histories, I recognise them easily. I was surprised to see Steve Pemberton there.
Episode 10: One of my favourite episodes of the season. Episodes where The Doctor is on his own are always interesting to me. I’m not usually a fan of episodes where they’re trapped on a ship, but I really liked this one. They had a unique Alien to deal with. It was pretty funny seeing all the passengers communicating with one another. Jethro was definitely my favourite character out of the passagers (minus the doctor). I like how he doesn’t take it serious.
Episode 11: Loved the concept, but it made me feel kinda depressed by the end of it. Nice to see Rose again. One thing I didn’t say earlier is that I love how she’s hinted throughout the season.
Episode 12/13: Nice to see the gang all together. Not happy that Harriet Jones died! I love her! Still find it funny that everyone knows who she is. I’m kinda fed up with the salt shakers though. Can they die for real any time soon? The ending with Donna was so sad because he can’t say what he wants to. Just like with Rose.
The Next Doctor: This was unique. I’m not going to say it’s my favourite episode, but it was fun to watch someone convinced they’re The Doctor.
Planet of The Dead: Found this one fun to watch to. I love getting to know a bunch of characters, who you’ll probably never see again after that episode. In addition, I was surprised how little people died throughout the whole thing. Christina was a nice character.
The Waters of Mars: Most of this episode was spent yelling at my TV because The Doctor wouldn’t leave. It’s an interesting concept, but the ending made me a little annoyed with The Doctor.
The End of Time: Who doesn’t like Wilfred? He’s great! I love his relationship with The Doctor. The way The Doctor started crying when he told Wilfred he knew he was going to die. Urgh! That hurt. And Lawry Lewin was in it! Love Horrible History actors (if that wasn’t obvious by now). I kinda ship The Doctor and The Master. Did since their first interaction. They seem really close together, no matter if they’re enemies. They kind of only have one another given their situation. I always want to learn more about The Time Lords, but I’m guessing I’m not going to be a fan of them.
The ending though. That hurt. I could feel the pain when Wilfred knocked 4 times. The montage of him getting his reward was so adorable though! It’s so cool how they managed to fit so many seasons into less than 10 minutes. Seeing all the references in the bar was probably the best. Jack being Bi is also cool as you don’t see many Bisexual people in media. Some of the moments in that montage really hit hard. My favourite episodes were 3x8 and 3x9 so him going to that book signing was sweet. Especially since he still cares for Joan. And him going to Rose before they met. That was quite sad, especially since she doesn’t know who he is at that point.
I’m sad to see David go. I actually started watching this show because of Good Omens, so David Tennant was the main reason I stayed. I do adore this show though, and I’ve heard good things about Matt Smith, so I’m guessing the next few seasons will be great too. I can’t believe I put this show off for so long! The newer show started before I was born, so I’ve literally been putting this off my whole life. I did watch a few episodes when I was younger. It’s practically inevitable being British. I never really understood why people liked it back then, but I do now. I remember having nightmares over the first episode with the moving mannequins and I had a fear of the Weeping Angels (definitely blame Lego Dimensions for that one). I’m pretty sure I watched nearly a full season with the 12th doctor with my parents when it was coming out.

TOGETHER AGAIN SPOILERS
A thread of lore, Easter eggs, episode connections, and background details from Adventure Time: Distant Lands: Together Again! Let me know if I missed anything! This is adapted from my original Twitter thread.
Tumblr media
1. I was expecting them to perhaps do a classic style title sequence for this episode, but I wasn't expecting them to straight up use the original title sequence. The only difference is this final screen saying "Distant Lands".
Tumblr media
2. The background of the title cards is also the hill from the title sequence.
Tumblr media
3. The ice cream having "50 flavours" and having an image of an enlightened soul is an obvious reference to the 50th Dead World as we see it later in the episode.
Tumblr media
4. Continuing with the metaphor, the dirt in the ice cream could be a parallel to the fact that Jake's Nirvana actually wasn't perfect, because his inaction was allowing for injustice to perpetuate.
Tumblr media
5. This whole scene feels immediately slightly off. Finn has his Scarlet sword and is out on a classic Ice King adventure, but he speaks in his grown voice and all the slang feels much more forced than it did in the real season one. Turns out this was deliberate.
Tumblr media
6. The snow golem speaks with a baby voice like it did in the pilot episode, even though in canon it has a deeper voice. This further hints that something is not quite right.
Tumblr media
7. The first major break in continuity is these snow golems resembling Uncle Gumbald and Peace Master, who Finn didn't meet until later in his life.
Tumblr media
8. LSP sitting on Finn's head like this is reminiscent of Pen Ward's piece for the 2018 Ble crew zine.
Tumblr media
9. Finn being given the choice of helping somebody but ending up helping everybody reminds me of "Memories of Boom Boom Mountain". It's the kind of resolution that wouldn't happen so much in the late seasons of the show, which helps make this scene feel even further out of place.
Tumblr media
10. Jake is half frozen by Ice King in pretty much the exact same way as he was in "Prisoners of Love", and even has a very similar line.
Tumblr media
11. The Snail is seen here. The crew have said that the Snail has been deliberately left out of previous Distant Lands specials, so its placement here is another very deliberate hint that this whole sequence is "trying too hard" to be like the early seasons.
Tumblr media
12. The book "Mind Games" appears a couple of times, as seen in several previous episodes of Adventure Time. The first is as Finn is approaching the library in his dream. It also appears as one of the items in Finn's backpack later.
Tumblr media
13. Jake is hurt when Finn fist bumps him with his metal arm, revealing that this scene is not real. This is also a callback to the title sequences of "Islands" and "Elements".
Tumblr media
14. A whole bunch of familiar skeletons are seen in the bird's nest: Dirt Beer Guy, Abracadaniel, Me-Mow, Lemongrab, Mr. Pig, and the Snail again. This doesn't necessarily mean that all these characters are dead, since this scene is just a hallucination.
Tumblr media
15. Old Man Finn! He's still got the chest tattoo of Jake, and this time we know that Jake is dead, so the theory that Jake died before "Obsidian" seems pretty likely. He looks similar to his old man design from "Puhoy", with the same facial hair.
Tumblr media
16. There are several cameos of familiar characters who apparently died at the same time as Finn. The first is this duck, who previously appeared in "Ocarina".
Tumblr media
17. The second is Donny, from the episode... uh, "Donny".
Tumblr media
18. This goblin guy is an unnamed background character from “The Silent King”.
Tumblr media
19. This old lady first appeared in "The Enchiridion", way back in season one. Old ladies are a species in the Land of Ooo, so I guess she wasn't actually very old back then, given she just about outlived Finn.
Tumblr media
20. This is the cobbler who first appears in "His Hero". Amazing that he lived so long given all the trouble he got into in that episode.
Tumblr media
21. Land of the Dead! This place was first seen in season two's "Death in Bloom", and now we are finally learning its actual purpose. It's a sort of gateway and hub to all of the other dead worlds.
Tumblr media
22. There are some more minor cameos at the gates: a house person from "Donny", a soft person from "Gut Grinder", and a wood person from "When Wedding Bells Thaw". And, of course, the gate guardian himself from “Death in Bloom”.
Tumblr media
23. Finn completely ignores the gate guardian in the same way he did in Death in Bloom. This also has the convenient effect of not having to reveal how Finn died, leaving it up to the audience's imagination.
Tumblr media
24. Mr. Fox! We already knew he would die at some point because BMO had his skull in the finale.
Tumblr media
25. Finn has his design from the first Distant Lands poster in this scene. Turns out it's young Finn in old Finn's clothes. But they gave him a shirt in the poster so you wouldn't be able to see the tattoo.
Tumblr media
26. The clapping that Finn does while he's looking for Jake is a callback to "James Baxter the Horse", when Jake tells Finn to listen for that same rhythm if they are killed and need to find each other in the afterlife.
Tumblr media
27. Mr. Fox talks about a "past life quotient", suggesting that there might be some kind of limit to how many times somebody can reincarnate. Finn's reincarnations are also seen in this scene; a callback to "The Vault", and confirmation that reincarnations share the same soul.
Tumblr media
28. Boobafina, the goose who Mr. Fox was in love with in his debut episode “Storytelling”, apparently reincarnated into a tugboat. We've already seen that objects can have souls in the episode "Ghost Fly".
Tumblr media
29. Finn is initially assigned to the 37th Dead World, which is the same one that Jake went to when he died in "Sons of Mars". We can only guess at what the other numbers on the ticket mean ;)
Tumblr media
30. Tiffany! Despite several lucky escapes throughout his life, Tiffany has finally died. I like the use of this imagery to express Finn's conflicted feelings about him.
Tumblr media
31. The 50th Dead World has long been established as the "highest" dead world, and the one synonymous with Heaven within Adventure Time's universe. It was first mentioned in "Ghost Princess" back in season three.
Tumblr media
32. It's unclear what happens to souls which are destroyed within the dead worlds. It is a similar question to asking what happened to the ghosts that were killed in "Ghost Fly".
Tumblr media
33. Death doesn't speak at all in Together Again because his voice actor, Miguel Ferrer, passed away in 2017 long before production began.
Tumblr media
34. Finn phases through New Death when he tries to attack him, just like what happened way back in "Death in Bloom".
Tumblr media
35. The 30th Dead World contains Tree Trunks as well as many of her love interests; Mr. Pig, her alien husband from "High Strangeness", Danny and Randy who first appeared in "Apple Wedding", and several more who we don't recognise, including at least one who presents as a woman.
Tumblr media
36. Literally yelled when these two showed up. Joshua calls Finn a crybaby, which is a callback to "Dad's Dungeon".
Tumblr media
37. The wall of weapons in Joshua and Margaret's house includes the iconic Demon Blood Sword, which was broken in "Play Date", as well as Margaret's auto-loading crossbow from "Joshua & Margaret Investigations".
Tumblr media
38. Jermaine is sidelined a few times through the episode, in reference to his attitude in "Jermaine" where he feels that Finn and Jake were always their parents' favourites. I would have hoped things would be a bit better by now.
Tumblr media
39. Fern gets name dropped while Finn and Jake are reuniting. A shame he doesn't actually show up in the episode.
Tumblr media
40. In this scene, Finn says "What time is it?" This is a very subtle reference to the 2010 cartoon "Adventure Time".
Tumblr media
41. In a couple of shots during this fight scene it looks like Jake might have a tattoo. It seems like it only becomes visible when he stretches out his arm.
Tumblr media
42. New Death's amulet in this scene resembles parts of the Lich's cape, foreshadowing his influence on New Death.
Tumblr media
43. There are several more cameos in the 50th Dead World: Booshy from "High Strangeness", one of the Marshmallow Kids from "Scamps", and Ghost Princess and Clarence, who were seen ascending to the 50th Dead World in "Ghost Princess".
Tumblr media
44. Finn didn't interact with Booshy in "High Strangeness", but it seems they must have met at some point before they both died because Finn knows his name.
Tumblr media
45. It seems like people in the 1st Dead World are slowly melted away until they become part of the landscape. Nasty.
Tumblr media
46. Lots more cameos in this scene: a gnome from "Power Animal", a gnome from "The Enchiridion", a Bath Boy from "The Vault", Blagertha from "Love Games", Maja the Sky Witch, a troll from "Dungeon", Chocoberry, Choose Goose, Wyatt, a spiky person from "Gut Grinder", and possibly more.
Tumblr media
47. Tiffany's insults are consistently nonsensical and amazing, as they were in the original series.
Tumblr media
48. The Candy Kingdom looks extremely different. Peppermint Butler is wearing the crown so he might be in charge now, which is supported by the kingdom's very magical-looking augmentations. It’s not clear whether Finn and Jake were expecting to find Princess Bubblegum or Peppermint Butler, since both have the initials “PB” and both could be going by the title of “Princess”. Perhaps Peps and Bubblegum share the princess duties now that PB is living with Marceline more of the time.
Tumblr media
49. Peppermint Butler has a "Boss" mug, although it's not the same colour as the one from "Obsidian".
Tumblr media
50. Jake's ghost has the same design as he did when BMO killed him in "Ghost Fly". I also absolutely love Finn's ghost. This scene establishes that ghosts are just visitors to the mortal plane from the dead worlds.
Tumblr media
51. Life has only appeared in animated shorts before now. Namely, "The Gift That Reaps Giving" which establishes her relationship with Death, and "Frog Seasons: Winter". This episode gives her a concrete place within Adventure Time's pantheon: she is in charge of reincarnation.
Tumblr media
52. A translation of Life’s angry French dialogue by Shado: “After all I did for that boy. After all I did for him. No, it's not possible. It's not possible no, that... that makes me so mad but it's not possible.”
Tumblr media
53. We finally have in-universe confirmation that Shoko's tiger is a previous life of Jake. This was previously confirmed by one of the writers, but wasn't canon until now.
Tumblr media
54. I feel like Finn pulled off Shoko's look even better than Shoko did. I wonder whether Finn has gained the memories of his past lives now that he’s dead.
Tumblr media
55. No Easter egg here, just want to appreciate this image.
Tumblr media
56. There is an elemental symbol on the wall here, as seen in "Jelly Beans Have Power".
Tumblr media
57. Tiffany's dramatic internal monologue is a recurring gag, as is his habit of nearly dying from falling into holes.
Tumblr media
58. The Jake suit makes a cameo in the fight against New Death. It was last seen in the episode "Reboot”.
Tumblr media
59. Finn's backpack contains a few familiar items: the t-shirt with the pocket from "It Came from the Nightosphere", Finn's underwear from "Little Dude" and other episodes, and a copy of Mind Games as I've already mentioned.
Tumblr media
60. The Lich's Hand is present in the background of Death's... death scene. This is probably the unseen "friend" who New Death keeps talking about.
Tumblr media
61. The Lich's menacing monologues often begin with a single command. Previously they have included "Fall" and "Stop". This time, the command is "Burn".
Tumblr media
62. Jake uses the word "boingloings", which is a callback all the way to "Hitman" in the third season.
Tumblr media
63. Jake's blue shape-shifter form from "Abstract" appears very briefly during his fight with Finn.
Tumblr media
64. Finn's lumpy space person form also makes an appearance. This design was last seen all the way back in the second episode of the entire show, "Trouble in Lumpy Space".
Tumblr media
65. Jake steps on the Lich's hand in a very similar way to how he stepped on Ash in "Memory of a Memory", which is itself a Monty Python reference.
Tumblr media
66. The credits include a dedication to a few AT cast and crew who have passed away. Polly Lou Livingston was the voice of Tree Trunks. Miguel Ferrer was the voice of Death. Michel Lyman and Maureen Mlynarczyk were both sheet timers on the original series. Rest in peace.
