watching SNW and where is the fruit. where is the cunt. the men have no eyeshadow, the women don’t wear outrageous updos. Where is the color in the set. where is the clothing seams and the face-paint aliens. Where is the breaking of social norms. And then Kirk shows up and they dont even sprinkle in the homosexuality.
I love Ethan Pecks Spock but that is not Spock. Spock is a sweetheart and hes gentle and soft and emotional. hes not meant to be built like a brick wall. Hes a lover not a fighter. Where is the immediate co-dependency with all of the people closest to him, especially with Kirk?

Strange New Worlds season 2 premieres this week! So I made this bingo card with all the stupid awesome stuff that I think will happen/want to happen!
I have watched exactly one trailer and read two articles about the Lower Decks crossover, so if any plot points have already leaked I got them right by accident.
Empty card unter the cut, because I actually think it looks really nice, if you want to make your own please tag me so I can see!

Really Great Hair
This is completely self-indulgent fluff. A triple drabble, because there was too much fluff to be contained in 100 words. Spoilers for the recent SNW/Lower Decks crossover episode. Enjoy!
Title: Really Great Hair
Rating: Teen
Ship: Chris Pike/Number One
Summary: Una can’t resist teasing Chris about his susceptibility to flattery. (In bed. But there’s only kissing!)
“No more toddlers.”
Chris huffed a resigned laugh as Una settled next to him in bed.
“That might have been a little harsh. I’m mostly glad they visited. But more so that everyone’s back in their proper time.”
“It was very informative.”
That was a suspicious tone. He bit back his automatic agreement.
“How so?”
“I got to see a display of your many strengths. What was that list again?”
Groaning, Chris covered his face with a hand. Una shifted, then he felt her swing a leg over his lap and settle astride him. This time he groaned for a different reason.
“Let’s see: there was diplomacy.” A kiss to the back of his hand, then she tugged it away to the vision of her eyes sparkling with mischief.
“Patience.” A kiss to his right cheek.
“Forgiveness.” Left cheek.
“Benevolence.” He pursed his lips slightly, but she swooped by and noisily kissed his forehead instead.
“Mostly,” her smile softened, “I appreciated seeing that grin.”
“What grin?”
“The one,” she bent lower, “that says ‘I shouldn’t be proud of flattery, but I can’t help myself.’ It’s a very cute grin.”
“I don’t have a cute grin.”
“You don’t lie well, Christopher.”
“The full name? Ouch.”
To his displeasure, Una sat up.
“Una.”
“Sorry, all I can think about is your flagrant lying.”
Chris sighed.
“Fine. I have one.”
“One what?”
“Grin?”
“Several. Which one?”
“Una.”
“Chris.”
Resigned, he muttered, “A cute grin. Now will you get back down here and kiss me?”
“Since you asked so nicely. Besides,” she told him while he pulled her in again, “I forgot one.”
She captured his lips in a deep kiss. When she pulled back, he tried to marshal his brain cells into some sort of order to process her words.
“Really great hair.”

So after the Strange New Worlds crossover I finally did something I've been putting off for a long time and watched Lower Decks. Avoided it for similar reason as I did SNW that it's praised as saving Trek from improper things like Disco and Picard and liking those that didn't sell me on SNW and LDs.
Which is a shame because both of them are decent and for the same reason, the main cast is reasonably charming and likable and good natured.
Anyway, I'm now up-to-date all the way to season 4 and the new cast and changes lead me to think about a couple of the new possibilities for story arc and will the show take full advantage of them:
To-whit: T'Lyn and the Lower Decker's promotions.
T'Lyn wants to get back to the Vulcan Fleet, and I wonder if her arc will be learning to accept Starfleet and how much cooler and more accepting it is. Or the others having to learn to accept her and her goals and support her in getting back to where she wants to be.
Like Tendi's all over her at the moment and not respecting her boundaries, that could be just their comic dynamic, or it could be a point Tendi learns that she has to have a different relationship with her than she does say... Rutherford or the others in Beta Shift.
And the Lower Decks promotions will they take advantage of the theoretical greater responsibility and authority over others that the promotion entails or will they stay lower deckers with a similar roles just more pips and nice rooms.
Like they should be bossing teams of ensigns about at least a bit. And I'd really like to see them have to handle and adapt to that. Jen the Andorian would be perfect for Mariner (or Boimler who could also dislike Jen for not supporting Mariner) to be in command of, same department and they'd struggle between professionism and personal conflicts. Just a thought.
-
oh and a complete tangent one of Lower Decks other very rare couples: Shaxs and T'Ana. Shaxs needs to dump her. He just seems really unhappy. In s3 there seemed to be some give and take but not in the most recent holodeck scene.

⭐ Director's Cut on the First Impressions ficlets, please!
Bahaha! Thank you for asking about those, @fiadorable! ❤️😂
Okay, so the trio of ficlets that form First Impressions are all … first impressions … in the context of two first officers — Jack Ransom and Una Chin-Riley. I originally posted the first and second ficlets to Tumblr (sort of glorified shitpost fics) and people asked me to put them on AO3, which was really nice. I put all three stories on AO3 a few days before the Lower Decks/Strange New Worlds crossover was announced and I thought, “Whoa. Of all my crackships, is Chansom actually going to go canon?!” So, yep, the joke in the crossover made me happy because how can you have first officer actors married to each other and not make a joke about it? The show did good.
Anyway, for the first ficlet, Jack Ransom falling for an Una Chin-Riley hologram (and Mariner teasing him about pulling a Geordi LaForge/Leah Brahms) was fun, and Jack meeting — and respecting — the actual Una as an aged and wise ambassador, all in the service of Jack’s emotional journey for his own self-confidence, was nice to explore. I see Jack as having a really beautiful and needy heart that he hides to protect himself (per Deanna Troi’s analysis). Letting Jack be vulnerable with Una made my own heart happy.
For the second ficlet, I was amused by the number of Trek characters played by married Trek actors and I wanted to get them all into one place. Hence, the nightclub that in my mind is officially named “Okudas,” but I couldn’t get that in there. Having Kira and Bashir (married actors!) comment on Jack and Una (married actors!) while reflecting on Tilly and Ryn (married actors!) and so, so many more had me smiling. (B’Elanna and Damar! Spock and Admiral Rollman! Jean-Luc Picard and the lounge singer from a dive bar in 21st century Los Angeles!) I like to believe that once Una and Jack figured out why they were at the nightclub (“Okay, so we’re fictional characters played by actors who are married to each other. That’s ummm …” “Not even the strangest thing to ever happen to me.” “Yeah, same.”) that they sort of warily circled each other, then Jack made a joke about testing out the ol’ rod and berries (yeah, a Roddenberry dirty joke — I truly believe Jack would go there) and Jack got nervous when Una seemed annoyed at first by his humor … but then he saw the amusement in her eyes and they both absolutely cracked up laughing.
The third ficlet was the only one of the trio that I wrote directly for AO3 (didn’t begin life as a Tumblr fic shitpost). And I have to say, I have a special place in my heart for it. The way Christopher Pike initially dismisses Jack Ransom as an idiot and, sure, it’s fine if Una has history with this guy from the future because it’s obviously just physical attraction and … what’s that? Jack is actually intelligent? Well, shit. Writing Chris becoming more and more insecure while Jack and Una have no idea that Chris is freaking out … and Chief Kyle just wants everyone out of the transporter room … had me laughing (lovingly) as I wrote and every time I edited.
Thank you so much, @fiadorable, for asking about that trio of firsts for two of my favorite first officers. ❤️
Want more information about a fic I wrote? Send me an ask.

I forgot to mention this a few days ago but I watched the Star Trek: Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds crossover and I LOVED IT
Now I will admit I am more familiar with Lower Decks than I am with Strange New Worlds (I meant to catch up with the show before this episode released but I’ve been busy with other stuff, I made it to episode 3) but I watched it anyway and found the crossover to be delightful
It’s just nice when you can tell the people behind the crossover are just as excited as you are about it. I was surprised that the episode had more animated than I anticipated, including the intro.
Mariner and Boimler work so well in the live-action world, and while it is a shame they’re the only ones who travel through time, it was nice to see and hear both Rutherford and Tendi. I was pleased that Tendi was somewhat connected to the overall story
I’d say Boimler fans are definitely going to love this one since we mainly spend time with him, but even if you’re not the biggest Boimler fan there’s still plenty to enjoy. I love the fact the crossover pokes fun at both shows in a more observant way
Also best part, is when Lt. Erica Ortegas calls Mariner a “good bad influence” because yeah she is. Also wanted more of those two hanging with Uhura

Thanks for the tag, @runicmagitek and @riinoaheartilly! 🥰

What's weird is I've never played Pokémon before? But I've been listening to a mellow piano playlist lately and this has been my favorite track on it. XD

It was… technically good? Murphy, Blunt and RDJ were all amazing. But you never got to take a breath once in its three-hour runtime and I did not have the energy for that.
Currently watching.
"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds"
The current season is pretty hit-and-miss, but the Lower Decks crossover episode added a year to my life it made me so happy! 💗
"Komi Can't Communicate"
I'm mostly just watching for the funny faces Komi makes.

I finished it a month or two ago, loved it, but for some reason I've been unable to make myself read anything since? Which is bad news, because my reading list is massive and growing! ;_; Next up is resuming "The Lotus Eater," then "What Leads You Here."
Currently craving.
For the AC to catch up? 🥺 Please??? 🔥🙏🔥
Last thing I searched for writing.
A whole mess of castle-related terms, for design and layout purposes. There's a curtain wall around the bailey and a walkway called an allure on top of the wall anddklfhasdjkflsjd

ZeLink has given me joy ever since Tears of the Kingdom came out, and any interpretation of their relationship will do because all versions make me happy. Romantic? Great! So-close-their-souls-touch besties? Also great! Partners in crime? Gimme gimme!
However, the biggest ship I'm the most passionate about has been running wild in my head for like a year and a half, but I can't share any of it because it would spoil one of my storiessss 😭😭😭 But I love it so much that it's worth two ships.

MCE Best of 2023: Honorable Mention
TV Shows: Star Trek Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds (Paramount+)
On the TV Side of things we come back to Star Trek.
With the growing pains of Discovery the second season of that show would bring in Christopher Pike and Spock to assist the crew.
Tumblr media
Proving popular the spinoff would begin to explore the period right when the prime directive became prevalent with the early adventures of the original USS Enterprise.
Along with intended first officer Una Chin Riley and nurse Christine Chapel the homages to the original explorers and their own adventures were prevalent.
With the Musical episode being chief among them.
Tumblr media
And a finale that sets up the Gorn as the overreaching character that will likely carry through the series.
The 8th episode is where this entry comes into play as on the animated spectrum we get a more comedic take.
Lower Decks focuses on the supporting crew of a second contact ship named Cerritos.
Tumblr media
Beckett Mariner has lived in the shadow of Starfleet, and her intention of staying down at the bottom of the rung clashes with her best friends, Brad Boimler, D’Vana Tendi, and Sam Rutherford.
Only the crew led by her mother Captain Carol Freeman and First Officer Jack Ransom still see the value of grunt work to give these ensigns.
The fun is had here with cameos and callbacks aplenty.
Our shows would end up crossing via a portal that Boimler activated sending him 120 years back in time. As Pike and company ponder the future he knows but is specifically told not to mention Mariner ends up joining him as both Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome manage to take their animated counterparts and blend them well into live action.
Tumblr media
Also comes with nice Coda at the end showing a possible reason into the mindset of the lower deckers.
Both shows mange to evoke what was insightful about Star Trek for many.
While Picard righted a ship, both Strange New Worlds in the past and Lower Decks in between managed to show off all the possibilities that still could be found.
And boy does it work.
Moopsy.
Tumblr media
SUM 22: Led by a crossover both of these Star Treks mange to bring some levity back into boldly going where none went before.

Transformers More Than Meets The Eye Retrospective: Annual #1: Ultra Magnus, What A Joke (Patreon Review For Brotoman.EXE)
Tumblr media
Hello all you happy autobots and after a long side trip for beetlemania, we're back on the lost light!
In full too as for the next few months at least, we're back to the main story. Kinda. This story takes place BEFORE Shadowplay, our last covered one, but was put here so it could be paired with avengers annual #10 patreon review wise, but other than Rung still being headless it's not so out of synch that it coudln't be moved around.
Thankfully after this it's a straight shot to the end of season 1 with just three arcs to go, which teneatively will be covered in novemeber and december, with another break for a specail halloween suprise in october. After that we have the big crossover Dark Cybertron, which while serving as the end of Season 1 of this era of transformers, feels more like a big finale movie. It still has ramificatoins for both.. but both sides also had a proper finale before this.
So before things get explosive we have a character piece here.. and like with Shadowplay my general view was
Tumblr media
The art didn't help. . As I said in another review of a great comic's less than well done annual, I TRY to be positive and for the most part the art on this book is great, but the art for this annual is pretty bleh. It's this weird mix of very 90's faces and very bland coloring that just dosen't not work.
The story itself however is pure setup for the finale, setting up a mystery to be solved there, some character growth with dire consequences for Magnus, while also, as tends to be standard for Roberts, setting up a plot point for much later in the story. So let's take a close look at MTMTE Annual #1 under the cut and see some smiles, some beaurcary and a giant robot man.
We open with an action set piece that dosen't do a lot for me. The art just isn't fluid enough and it's especially a downgrade from the regular artists, making it even more noticeable. It dosen't help the microcons their fighting look more like live action transformers,
Tumblr media
And you can see the dullness I mean too. Our heroes still have their designs.. but the colors try to make them more realistic. Concidentally this scene is set in ultra magnus' mouth as some nanocons a decpitcon shot him with long ago have awakened and threaten to combine and kill him and then the ship, so our heroes have been shrunk down to deal with it. The only way to stop this realistic scenario that happens to everyone all the time is for Magnus to smile, destroying the generators in the pistons he uses for that.
Tumblr media
This opening is a great example of just.. how much fun James Roberts has with MTMTE. While at it's core MTMTE is the kind of high concept sci fi you'd find in say Star Trek or Fantastic Four, he also doesn't forget he's writing giant colorful merchandisable battle robots that can turn into those nitro burning funny cars, vroom vroom! Besides the various jokes on the toys, he's not afraid to just go balls out silly.. while still having lots of nice genuinely deep sci fi couched within. It's essentially what i've heard Star Trek Lower Decks is before that existed: taking the piss out of a stored decades long franchise.. while still staying UTTERLY loyal to that franchise and why people love it.
Magnus tries to do his normal grumbly telling people ot straighten their badges and such , but everyone mocks him, something he takes with grace dignity and plans to resign as soon as possible.
First we get some smaller character stuff as everyone prepares for Tailgate's cermony, but it's all good: Rewind worries about Chromedome who is having a flash of ptsd... someone else's ptsd from the memories he's absorbed, Tailgate tries to get Cyclonus to attend but he's still being a mopey puss about it and Swerve passes by shock and or ore.. only for them to speak.
Tumblr media
We'll table that problem for now as Drift's forced to have an invtervention for Hot Rod. He's been wearing a giant foam cowboy hat for 8 months now. He can take it off any time he wants he just dosen't want to, so they instead pivot to another problem: He's been saying "Till All Are One" every five minutes. Rodimus deflects it.. and i've noticed as i've re-read season 1 that it's a pattern with him, and one that carries till the final arc of the series: Rodimus prefers to dance a little side step instead of face most of his problems. Just put it off to the side and let it sort itself out or let someone else handle it. And when he does tackle an issue, he usually handles it recklessly, impuslviely and half assedly
Tumblr media
It's not that he's lacking any talent, his improvisations often work as seen with the very first issue, or that he's a terrible person: he loves his crew, as seen both with the red alert incident during shadow play and in this issue as when Magnus comes barging in demanding a new crew.. he explains that it's their way of showing affection. I mean granted i'm sure some of those are just jabs at his humilation, Magnus is a fun character but not exactly someone people like and he liked it that way, but his point is clear: it's okay for Magnus to be a person and not just the duly appointed enforcer of the tyrest accord. It's that humanity, for lack of a better term, that makes Rodimus likeable even when he's being a whinybabyasshatbot. He simply wants to be loved and respected, and this quest is more about personal validation by the universe than it is real enlightnment. He just wanted to do something big and showy to show he really earned having the matrix for a time and he really is worthy of being a prime. He just wants to be loved and can't accept that maybe.. he's just not the big sweeping hero go. A big sweeing hero guy sure, but he's not optimus and that's okay.
While Magnus stews on this advice, we also find out our heroes next stop: The Crystal City, home of the circle of light. Something that confused me as whlie this book is good at expositoin normally they kinda dropped the ball explaning these guys in a way that made sense if you hadn't read the drift mini.
The Circle of Light is a group of cybertroninan ninja monks who preach non violence and live in a walled off city, having largely skipped the war. They took in Drift at his lowest and the kind treatment and mentorship of their leader, Dai Atlas, convinced Drift to turn face and the circle in turn backed him when he needed their help.
This series recontecutlaizes them as having been avid followers of the knights of cybertron, a nice little addition, and thus seeing them, while also a homecoming of sorts for Drift, is important as if they can get them to join, they have all the help they'll need. The only problem is... Magnus can't raise them on coms and while Drift is assured given their badassery their fine.. as we'll soon see Magnus was right to be worried.
The ceremony itself goes off the rails: not only does Hot Rod fail to not use some form of till all are one, but Tailgate dosen't get to do his speech.. and his autobrand turns out as anceient cybertronian. Something is channeling through Hot Rod, and the bots who fell out of the airlock as we find out via an expesition dump during the ceremony.
Our heroes have even better concerns as the galactic council shows up.
Tumblr media
While they explain it after this scene, i'll go ahead and filll any newcomers in, as Magnus does for Tailgate. It's a great part of having tailgate around: it allows Roberts to do worldbuilding without having to work too hard for it , as most of the cast would know this. Their essentially this universe's federation, a group of higher order plaents bound together to protect each other. They've recently taken on more policing, a red flag if their ever was one, and aren't fans of the cybertronians due to their war, having blacklisted them and being right dicks to Rodimus, having anxexed this territory as the Crystal City is abandoned. That itself.. is a dick move as they didn't bother informing cybertron, and the war's been long over enough, of any of this so they could investigate, instaed scavanging. It's some nice show don't tell: it shows that while these guys DO do some good and claim to be benevloent.. their really beucractic wankphesants who blame a whole race for the war.
Luckily the Lost Light has a secret weapon...
Tumblr media
After Mags has finished hermes conradding this guy into a corner, in part because he's the only person here M Bison IN SPACE respects, we find out the deal: one hour to investigate for "religious reasons", which both sides know is basically bullshit but they need to look into this.
We get a brief interlude with Swerve, who has a heart to heart wtih Shock.. and also lies that he's pipe as like most people Swerve didn't make the best first impression. He confesses about the shooting of rung if from a third person and agrees with Shock's assetment he's a scumbag. It also explains WHY Swerve's so willing to help the next arc: he feels deep guilt for it and while it was on orders.. that makes it worse. Swerve admit she was more scared about loosing his bar than doing what's right. Later on drift further muses about feeling... a lack of purpose. That the war ending was supposed to be awesome and everything resolved.. but it really isn't. There's no real ending to life after all and as Shock puts it he's lucky to be alive if nothing else.
On the surface we get an away team consisting of most of our main cast but notably lacking Magnus, who we'll get to in a moment. They find the crystal city but..
Tumblr media
Drift naturally mentally wigs out a bit: his people are missing, the city is ransacked and their biggest lead is now a massive dead end. It's only Rewind suggesting that he uses his sword to try and commune with the city that snaps him out of it... and only punching a mocking Whirl that fully gets him on mission. Instead of getting any graet message stabbing his sword into the city instead makes autobots go down the holeeeeeeee
We then find out where Magnus is: turns out the Council abducted him.. so they could ask thim to join him, having found him just over these decades of wars and never wavering. Essentially it's everything UM could ask for: defined rules, structure, order and respect. and metro titans are their ancient cousins, apparently created by the knights of cybertron, they can touch into other realms and such. So they decide to learn more about this thing to go on a BRAIN QUEST!
Six minutes later the brainquest is over and they found it. Great joke. And at the center... Cyclonus is in reverent awe as he used to worship at th efeet of metrotitans and gives his own version of the cybertronian creation myth, with Rewind naturally recording it since he dosen't have this version in his archives.
So once upon a time there was primus
Tumblr media
Who found cybertron and some sparks and wanting to give it life, split himself into five gods
Tumblr media
But like most media portrays mythical death gods, Mortilus eventually rebelled, wanting to conquer and war were declared. While our heroes won they were left in bad straights, each dying but becoming part of cybertron itself: Primus became Vector Sigma, the computer at the heart of cybertron and the source of sparks, Solmus became the Matrix of Leadership, and Epistemus and Adaptus the model for brain moduels and transformation cogs. And out of them came a new generation of Cybertronians to spread peace: The Knights of Cybertron. All of this will naturally be very important later.
For now though Ratchet is doing his usual over the top athetist schtick and Drift calls him out for being a dick: Being an Athiest? Fine. Mocking someone else's beliefs simply because he doesn't think their true. Not okay. Ratchet further digs himself deeper by outright stating Drift is so religious because he wants absolution for everyone he killed as a decpticon.. and nearly gets a sword in him for it. Not the best way of showing your not a murderer anymore, but well warranted. It's okay not to be religious, especially given how much harm some religions do. But it's not okay to mock someone when their beliefs aren't harming anyone.
So naturally Rodimus' next move .. is to have Chromedome try to braintap the giant... and it goes as well as you'd expect.. heavy feedback.. and the titan waking up screaming, rumbling the planet and leading M. Bison IN SPACE to assume this was all a trap.
Tumblr media
So he plans to burn the lost light and EVERYONE on board in retaliation, and is leeching off their warp drive so they can't escape
Tumblr media
Magnus has rejoined them, having turned down the offer , we'll find out why later and giving Rodimus a fond farewell, telling him to say hi to the knights of cybertron for him while Rodimus ORDERS him not to die, begging him. Their one hope is activating the drive.. but that involves swerve telling Shock the truth.. and he simply.. can't. And while this could come off as dickish.. the why is as heartbreaking as it is glorious
Tumblr media
It's a hard choice.. but it was his. And inspired by this... Rodimus chooses to set the titan free instead of having him shrunk for his knoweldge. And it calls back to something Drift said earlier I glossed over: that when the right time came, Rodimus would save them all. And.. he does. By doing the right thing, the Titan warped everyone out of there and since he was linked up to Ore, it also freed the lost light.. and Ore is gone. Why? No one knows. But our heroes are safe and for once Rodimus has an actual plan, having relalized from this experince his winging it... has consequences.
Tumblr media
So with our course for the next arc set, we end on the Council.. and just WHY Mags turned down his dream job
Tumblr media
Naturally for this comic, M. Bison IN SPACE will be back. For now though it's the last part that's important: that despite not wanting to change, despite his inflexiblity.. magnus sees that .. maybe inflexiblity isn't a strength. That not accepting any change, not changing will only make him tyrants like the council. It's being faced with everything he could want and everything he could become.. that gets him to evolve past what he's been... and smile.
This issue, as you can probably wager is excellent. The art is.. not good and I won't slag it further, and it does drag the issue down slightly.. but the character work, from Swerve's chats with Shock and or ore, to Rodimus' desperation at the end, to Magnus growth is phenominal and this one issue spotlights the series at it's best: introspective, engaging and reallyf ucking weird
Next time: Tick tick tick....

dear yuletide writer,
tis the season!!!! <3
hi, this year I am spoiled for choice! What a great year for small fandoms!
Generally I like emotional conflict, drama and happy endings. I love first kisses and angst and smut, but ultimately I want my blorbos to go on a journey, to have some conflict, and resolve it.
DNW: kink for kinks sake, by this I mean negotiated bdsm, safewords, dungeons, formalised kinky culture stuff. No rape/dubcon.
Onto my requests!!
Hitman: Diana/47 are my OTP and I love them SO much. You can do what you will with them, but I'd love it if you did something weird.
The Newsreader: I have only seen season 1 so far at the time of writing. I ship Helen and Dale AND Dale and Tim. I am not interested in a polyamorous solution, I like angst and conflict and mess, I've no real preference which pairing 'wins', or if Dale loses them both. Helen is my favourite so be nice to her <3
Star Trek: Lower Decks: Mariner/Boimler are my pairing of choice, I love their dynamic. If you were to do anything with what happened during the SNW crossover I would be over the moon, what if they didn't get home? What if Tendi and Rutherford had come through? What if they'd stayed around for Pike's birthday party? But honestly, I love them and their shenanigans, so whatever makes you inspired!
Raffles: Raffles and Bunny are my OTP of OTPs, there will never be any one else I love as much as them. Whatever you write, I will be happy. (but if you can put some cricket in there, I'll love you forever!)
DADHAT: Edgin/Xenk for preference, happy with gen if its funny. I'm not a D&D reference-getter generally, as I haven't played much, but I loved this movie and would love to see more fic for it.
Oxventure Dread: Jock/Hipster fake america archetypes from a british perspective plus werewolves. If you match on this, I love you and will take whatever you can give <3 GREGGS U RULES

Strange new worlds made me really angry at first too because of how many inaccuracies there were regarding what was to happen in the original series, but I've learned that if you just accept this series as a fun little show that takes place in an alternate universe, or isn't even canon at all, it gets easier to watch. To be honest, I've only watched three episodes (the one with Kirk and La'an in Canada, the one with Uhura's hallucinations, and the Lower decks crossover) and those were kind of nice by themselves. You kind of have to pick and choose the episodes though since there are some really bad ones (the one where Spock eats bacon, erasing the legacy Nimoy intended) but other than that, although it's inaccurate, if you consider it not to be a real prequel to the original series, I guess some episodes are watchable.
see i totally agree with that, i’d be able to enjoy it so much more if it were actually confirmed to be an alternate timeline. as it is though it hasn’t been confirmed (as far as i know) but everything i’ve seen implies that it’s really just supposed to be a prequel. seeing it as a prequel any time i watch it all i can think about is inconsistencies and mischaracterization. i’d be able to get into it so much more if i could be sure it was a different timeline.
i’m really glad so many people like it. i feel like a lot of people misunderstand a lot of criticism of snw as like, people trying to say it should be canceled or that others shouldn’t like it, and at least for me that isn’t the case. it seems like a very enjoyable show from what i’ve watched of it but unfortunately my obsession with tos makes it extremely unenjoyable for me.
also, not really the point, but i can’t stand the way hardcore snw fans react to any criticism of it. like you point out that for spock’s character it makes no sense when they put him up with random women that in tos it specifically shows him having no interest in, or how chapels character acts nothing like she does in tos (seriously it seems like they just decided tos chapel was boring so they wrote a whole new character and gave her the same name) and (at least in my experience) rather than having any explanation or wanting to have a discussion about it, the only response i get is along the lines of “well it’s a fun show just let people enjoy it” or they act like i’m the biggest hater in the world just because i want the prequel to make sense as a story that’s meant to lead up to the source material.
so because of all that, like you said, i really really think it should be either an alternate timeline or something more like the animated series, where it’s kinda just accepted that it’s just for fun and doesn’t contribute to canon. idk if i’ll like it then but i’d definitely be able to enjoy it a lot more if it were confirmed that it isn’t canon but as it is now it really seems like they’re still pushing it as a direct prequel and that just rubs me the wrong way.
(the lower decks crossover looked really fun to me so whenever i get around to watching lower decks i’m definitely gonna watch that one)
anyways sorry for the long ass response i have a lot of thoughts on this

I just watched the Strange New Worlds / Lower Decks crossover episode. I've only seen the first few episodes of the first season of snw so this was kind of a stress test for how episodic the show is. There was a "previous on" at the beginning of the episode but I don't feel like it was really necessary. I feel like beyond knowing who the characters are you don't need to know what has been happening in the season to understand and enjoy this episode. There are some character arcs that were surprising but they were explained enough to not make me feel lost.
Overall I really liked this episode. Boimler and Mariner add a lot of humor to the episode but it's balanced by the SWN crew.
Spoilers below
I was not prepared for laughing Spock. I was very much in Boimler's shoes when that happened. Spock going through an emotional phase was kind of jarring but interesting (and a little tragic for Chapel).
I was not expecting to start with an animated sequence. I thought the episode would be from the pov of snw and avoid showing the lower decks era. The animated opening was also a fun surprise.
Uhura and Ortaga geeking out about Archer's enterprise was a nice "your heroes had heroes too" moment.

Oh hey I got tagged in an ask game! Thanks @firealder2005
Favorite Color: Uh, black. Wait no, green! No, blue! But red and purple look pretty nice...
Currently Reading: Copious amounts of Owl House & RWBY fanfics. Plus some MaraLuke stuff. Dipping my toe into Wildbow’s works (Ward & Pale are my favourites)
Last Song: The Last of the Real Ones, Achilles Come Down & Icarus. Specifically RWBY AMVs using them.
Last Series: Everything Star Trek, though more specifically Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, and Deep Space 9.
Last Movie: The Sea Beast
Sweet/Savory/Spicy: I like all three, though I’d say I have the most “tolerance” for savoury.
Currently Working On: Songbird, a canon divergent Owl House fic series, and I’m doing some plotting on a RWBY/Star Trek crossover called Boldly Forward. No SW fics unfortunately, but my hyperfixation may come around
Who else to tag:...I...dunno. Let’s just say if you see this on your dash, take it as an open invitation!

Okay so I've firmly established my new trek (discovery, Picard, lower decks, snw) wishlist basics
more filler episodes
more insane costumes
more levity
less overarching plot more overarching character development
(Lower Decks actually has most of these and Discovery is showing some signs of improvement. Picard needs a LOT of the above, and SNW remains to be seen.)
But I'd like to add to the list:
CROSSOVER EPISODES
Granted, we didn't get a lot of these between TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT, but it was very nice when we did! Obviously, there's the issue with all of them taking place in different time periods, but if I had creative control, this would be my proposal:
Ideas for Discovery
A historical holodeck episode. Either they're trapped within one or they have to search for the answer to a problem by observing historical events (like "Flashback" in ENT or "These are the voyages.") This would work best for a Discovery/Picard crossover or a Discovery/SNW crossover. Discovery/LD would be harder in this scenario for obvious reasons.
a hologram or other lifeform with the preserved likeness/personality of a character from Picard makes an appearance, similar to the Voyager episode with the EMH. This would work best for a Rios hologram, but it could also work for Soji, if she was somehow preserved for ~750 years.
Ideas for Lowerdecks
Lower Decks has INCREDIBLE crossover potential because of its format. We've already had some trek characters appear without having to worry about their age since all we need is their voice, and the more of this we get, the better. Lower Decks takes place only 19 years before Picard, 10 years before Rios is discharged, and 7 years before the Romulan Supernova. So what I'm saying is, any Picard character (with the exception of Elnor and Soji) could show up in Lower Decks. Actually, Rios would be about the same age as the Lower Decks crew. Give me Ensign Rios. Raffi would be about 35, so also no reason she shouldn't show up.
Lower decks also has a good set-up for a time travel episode. Why shouldn't they travel back to SNW, or forward to Picard or Discovery? If it's Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, and Rutherford we're talking about, they probably did it on accident while doing something they shouldn't have, and may therefore be reluctant to tell anyone with real authority about it when they get back. (Mariner: Spock had a SISTER? Did anyone else know about this? Geez, how many secret siblings can one dude have?). Also, then we get to see those crews animated and also in a light-hearted one-off which would RULE.
Ideas for Picard
I could see the Picard crew incidentally traveling forward to Discoveries period or back to SNW, although there may be some narrative hurdles. Imagine Elnor getting to see Ni'Var, experience the reunified Vulcan/Romulan state, and find out that the Qowat-Milat is still going strong! <3 Or imagine a Trials and Tribbleations style ep where Picard gets to bump elbows with Pike and interact with Spock when he was young!
Picard could also pull off a "historical holodeck" episode with SNW or S1-2 Discovery characters.
Ideas for SNW
Granted, we don't know the exact tone of SNW yet, and because all the other shows are happening in the future and unlike LD we can't bring on younger versions of the characters without scary CGI, the only way they could host a crossover episode would be through traveling forward in time. Now, this would take some classic star trek hand-waving to pull off, but they've done it before and they'll do it again. I would personally enjoy young Spock on La Sirena or getting to see Michael again :')
Final thoughts about Lower Decks
One nice thing about the main Lower Decks crew is that the voice actors all convincingly resemble the characters they play. So while it wouldn't be practical to have a live-action episode in which the deck of the Cerritos and every character would need to be live, having one of them, or just the four of them show up in SNW, Picard, or Discovery as time travelers or as holograms could actually be pretty easy to pull off.
