Became good friends with Angry, this was mainly due to how much Smiley and Mucho hung out. 

Everytime someone has asked about the scars on his face, he's given a different response as to how they happened.

He also frequently watched Shinichiro working on bikes when he was a kid.

Stole his bike

Has a habit of staring off into space and daydreaming a lot, people always think he's annoyed when he does that

While in tenjiku he kept his hands in his pockets a lot. This was to hide the way he'd clench his fists whenever they mentioned taking Mikey down. 

Didn't feel sad after he killed Mucho but he wasn't happy either. After the adrenaline wore off he felt nothing, just an emptiness. 

When he went to the festival with Senju as kids, they rode the carousel, both pretending to race each other on it.

Wasn't surprised but was also a little hurt when no one came to pick him up from juvie in the first timeline.

Didn't want to join a gang in the good timeline because gangs made him think of Takeomi and he didn't want to be like him.

Visited Shinichiro's grave often, each time promising him that he was looking after Mikey.

While growing up, practising his katana was his favourite thing to do since it was one of the only times he got to be free.

During the good timeline he hinted he wanted a pet once. He was thinking like a dog or maybe a cat but Senju got him a hamster. He still ended up loving the little guy

Although he was the first one to teach Senju how to fight, he wasn't the last. After he left Waka and Benkei took over. When he did start teaching her it was only because she wouldn't stop asking him.

Attends all of Mikey's races in the good timeline

Goes to get cheesecake at least once a week with mucho

If he dates someone, one of his favourite things is to take them on bike rides. He doesn't care where they go, he just likes the feeling of them holding onto him.

A part of him was actually regretful after Emma died but he pushed those feelings away, instead concentrating on Mikey.

Talking of character deaths, he did mourn Baji after he died too. Even visiting his grave often.

When Senju used to cry he used to sing to her to cheer her up.

People being mean about pommes relationship with bbh is so fucked!!!

It bothered me that people didn't care as much about her BEFORE she started hanging out with BBH.

It's bizarre to me!

The value of eggs for some reason in this Fandom was weirdly adjusted by exposure and time spent with BBH. Which is the most frustrating thing in my personal opinion.

They are all important and were important before they did or didn't hang out with BBH.

Even lullah only started getting more praise after she started showing up later in the evenings to hang out. This Fandom was mean to her over and over.

Outright saw someone GLAD she was gone. Called her a "cop out player bait" character. She got so much backlash for having arguments or disagreeing. Her, Pomme, Leo, Em and Sunny all played very complex characters who didn't fit the mold perfectly on how little girls should act and this Fandom hated them all differently for it.

Actual insane behavior.

This is entirely Fandom neg here lmao. Image an annoyance shaking their head at the tags frequently. Yall don't know how to behave sometimes. I'm not asking you all to like every single character ever and like everything that they do. Tbh from what I’ve seen, a lot of people who disliked Pomme being adopted by bbh were from the french side of the fandom and it came from their criticism of cc!bbh (which I would argue was quite valid to an extent) but in some cases it got too intense

Headcannons: Anna Goodchild!

- LOVES jewellery

- every year her parents gift her a new necklace chain while Cecil and Zosia buy her a charm each to go on it

- also LOVES shoes, she has a favourite pair of red heels that make her feel beautiful and confident

- really into romance novels (I think this is canon tbf)

- but when they get sexual she and Zosia sit in their kitchen reading the scenes aloud dramatically and laughing

- really into sewing and fashion and does super clever things with curtains and towels and stuff

- she does lots of the sewing at the ministry, replacing British clothing labels with French and whatnot

- loves animals, cats especially and always taking them up to the flat because "Zosia, look, this poor thing's practically skin and bone!" while holding up the chunkiest cat ever

- does NOT like animals for this reason, doesn't understand them and thinks they're too unpredictable because their body language is different

- not a big jewellery fan, finds it sort of restricting, so finds herself liking makeup more

- finds it really soothing, especially right after a mission > if she's feeling really jittery, Anna will let Zosia do her makeup too

- a little obsessed with crumpets, and a lot embarrassed by this, keeps an emergency packet in her desk at the ministry

i would love to hear any and all doctor who related thoughts you'd like to share (tenmartha related or otherwise!)

i'm currently very slowly rewatching s3 for the first time in over ten years so i'm not in a position to give a thorough breakdown but i can speak to my general feelings about her (until very recently) unique experience of a being black woman accompanying the doctor and therefore having to endure being thrown to multiple sets of wolves, the fans and the writers.

aside from her just being a gorgeous and amazing character, i think was drawn to her for the same reason i think people were so viciously critical of her - her blackness means she's an anomaly. there was mickey, but he was more of a secondary character and he's also a man and doesn't have to content with the intersection of race and misogyny.... you know all of this already.

all companions deal with the fact that travelling with the doctor is fun and worth it, but it often comes at a terrible cost. it's dangerous, sometimes it's fucked up, but ultimately they still choose to do it.

what a luxury it is for most companions to be able to opt-in to venture to a planet where the systems and people you encounter on a daily basis may be hostile to you for something you can't control. that's the life martha is choosing when she decides to accompany the doctor, but it's also the life she's choosing when she decides to leave him.

for me it increases the stakes every time her life is in danger. the circumstances she finds herself in with the doctor are inhospitable to her but the genre she's in is also inhospitable to her. she deserves better from the doctor but she also deserves better from the story she inhabits and what kills me is she's aware of that! she knows she doesn't belong! her "i'm good" reminds me so much of this moment from my favourite movie, the matrix:

no! no one was expecting or knew what to do with a black woman in a major role in speculative fiction!

it's not clear to me that the doctor knows just how good martha is and that's a symptom of the writers not knowing either. tbf to the production itself, she's got lots of great moments, but the odds are utterly stacked against her and the fumbles (human nature/family of blood i'm looking at you) are painful to watch.

i get that the doctor needing his companions is a founding character trait of his and it was fun to watch martha save his ass but at a certain point it felt gratuitous to me. he spends the whole season fucking up terribly without acknowledging how much hell she goes through on his behalf and i think i'm still meant to feel worse for the him re: rose. and also i'm supposed to buy that that's the main reason martha is upset whenever she's upset, which i find kind of... laughable lol. unrequited love sucks but does it suck worse than all of [gestures] that? idk, maybe i'm just not 14 anymore but i find it pretty hard to believe that my crush not liking me back is worse than being trapped in early 1900s england, to say nothing of... what is it, vampires in that one?

sorry i didn't have more positive stuff to say.... there is at least 42 where the doctor screams that he needs her. yeah you do, we all do!!! that is ultimately how i feel about her.

so I wanted to put my perspective on the show out there as someone who is a big fan of both it and the books it is based on! I’ve seen a few of these around and just wanted to put mine out there.

now bear in mind: the show is what got me to read the books. I started season one in 2019, enjoyed it, went out and got the books mid way through, finished book one before s1 had even finished airing and finished the entire trilogy quickly after that. they have been my absolute favourite books ever since and so the show will always have a special place in my heart for that reason. the only other familiarity I had with the story was the film and had I not started my journey with the adaptations, perhaps my perspective might be a bit different.

I do understand - and sometimes agree with! - people’s complaints about things. I agree that I do think we should have got more of marisa’s violent side for example. I think what we did get was excellent - those scenes of her torturing the witch? I shudder thinking about it tbh - but I also do think more of it would have helped with a lot of people’s complaints about her characterisation.

that said? I do think her characterisation in the book is a tad inconsistent and I can see why they did flesh her out a bit more the way they did. yeah it takes away some of the mystery of her but I do think that mystery would have been difficult to properly translate on screen imho. I also do think they wanted to give her a more concise arc from season one to season three, and I do think it works well. I do think they still could have done stuff like having the monkey ripping up bats for example, but in their defense I think that may well have been due to change of scenery for those scenes and maybe they thought bats being there wouldn’t have worked as well.

I know marisa isn’t the only one that’s a tad different from the books too but she’s the one I see talked about most. I also see people criticising LMM’s portrayal of lee which I also understand. personally I don’t think he did a bad job character or acting-wise but lee is meant to be an old man so he is quite a bit different from how he is in the book on that basis.

that said? this show will always be my favourite and these books will always be my favourite! because personally? I think they compliment each other really well!

adaptations are never going to please everyone and tbf this isn’t pullman’s show, this is jack thorne’s. he is essentially just a fan of the books same as you and me and his perspective on the characters may well be different than other’s. the show is essentially just an officially produced fanwork - which is basically what most adaptations are tbh - and the same way some may like certain fanfics and others might not, I can see why there are mixed views on the show.

overall I quite liked the portrayal of the characters that the show did! I think the show captures the heart of them, their arc and the story very well and I can tell that the people who made it have a lot of love for the original works ❤️

It's really cool you can do the guitar! I am terrible with music (I tried to learn the violin as a kid...I broke part of it on the very first day, panicked, and tried to fix it with superglue. I think personally I'd like to go sports, but opportunities are low where I am, so it feels a bit wasted :( So maybe music? Ideally sports, especially anything that lets me go super fast. ALSO I want to be able to swim. And currently I uh cannot. And keep failing at trying to learn. Oh well.

Okay so 3 careers...I feel like I'm gonna be a bit vague here. First is my ideal career of "something that helps children with special educational needs". Whether that's like, support in schools, or making sure schools provide the right support, idk. Second...probably something medical? When I was younger I had wanted to study medicine at uni. I did not in the end but yeah! Helping out in the medical industry would be fun. And third...an animator! I've not got the patience for it tho XD What about you??

And cats!! I have two, one of which is sleeping beside the computer and the other is currently climbing over the keyboard and trying to sit on my arms. - When he shifts, camilo's bones and ligmants etc break and change to create the body hes recreating and whilst it's hardly noticeable to him anymore (another reason he eats a lot) Dolores can hear it happen and she hates it

- Bruno has seen how everyone will die and when, and it traumatised him

- He's also seen modern technology, he's the most tech savvy I refuse to believe otherwise

- Camilo and Bruno LOVE old Hollywood movies

- And the way they found out they shared that love was when Bruno just randomly quoted that line Jimmy Stewart says "This is the voice of Doom calling" after giving someone a vision

Don't mind me but I just wanted to talk about something which is really rubbing off the wrong way with me.

Before I start, I should say that NONE of what I am about to say is meant to be Adrien salt. In fact, I have related to him more than ever especially this season and actually this ladynoir conflict is helping me cope up so much (I personally think it is really well executed so far). I love both Marinette and Adrien and I absolutely love this conflict because of what it would bring out in the future.

That being said, I read your post about the power imbalance in ladynoir and I agree so much with it! People talking about it sometimes makes me feel uncomfortable because of how they frame words about it and the post helped me understand why.

It's just that people say that Marinette being the guardian is the whole problem. And yes, that's true in sense it is a very very stressful burden for a fourteen year old to carry and it is taking a toll on her relationships and mental health to an extent where she CAN'T focus on anything else (I may be clumsily framing this dhsbz sorry but you get the gist). But no. People are not even concerned about that - their problem is that there is a power imbalance between Chat and Ladybug and that it is hurting Chat. Which is another aspect of it, yes, but also it kiiiinda rubs me off in the wrong way because it's almost as if people are not taking HER feelings into consideration at all? I mean this is pretty trivial and I am definitely overthinking things and I am sure it's not the case with most people saying that but it just does bother me.

And also the fact that when any leaks (especially from gloob😒) come up showing Adrien making a "mistake" (Like the Glaciator 2 ones gosh they were awful), salters start off with their irrational bashing, and people are really really quick to defend him - which they should! But why don't they do the same for Marinette too? Sure. Maybe they just care more about Adrien to defend him but when these SAME people start bashing on Marinette with out of context spoilers WITHOUT EVEN THINKING OF WAITING FOR THE EPISODE is when this feels like an awful double standard.

And then there's also a very specific brand of people who say that...Adrien is more "well written" and a "fan favourite"? Now, I won't touch the writing part because of my personal biases and because I personally think Marinette's storyline is also pretty complex (and I totally understand why people would NOT think so), but the fan favourite part?? Does it even matter at the end of the day? I've even seen some people act all high and mighty because they are Adrien "stans" apparently?? (Tbf the whole Stan culture is something which I don't care about)

Sorry for this highly disorganised rant. It's just that since the episode aired I've been seeing all sorts of these comments and I don't know if this is just me overthinking everything or if this is really something which bothered anyone else too.

Ello, anon! I'm always happy to get people venting in my inbox if they need to, I know the feeling

The first thing I'm going to say re: Adrien defense squad, is that you're absolutely right that in so many ways Adrien salt acts to perpetuate this defensiveness of Adrien that maybe isn't always earned. And like you, I love Adrien's character and don't want to sound salty, but.... people need to stop defending Adrien at the expense of Marinette.

That means that they need to stop defending him so much that they place blame on her where it's not deserved. It means they need to stop defending him so much that he gets shielded from pain rather than ever growing from it. It means they need to stop defending him from people who aren't arguing in good faith.

In the non-saltiest part of the fandom I know, this corner I've carved for myself on Tumblr, it's just exhausting to see people deconstructing all the reasons and ways Marinette is at fault and hurting people around her. There's usually the disclaimer of "Oh I still love her though!" or "But she has no way to change given her current circumstances" or "Not salt, I still love her."

But if I deconstructed all the ways in which Adrien is wrong and hurting people around him with those same disclaimers, I'd get accused of perpetuating Adrien salt. That's happened to me before. And unlike most of the posts I see like this about Marinette (by very smart, reasonable people), when I made those types of posts about Adrien, it was always, "He needs to get better for his own sake because he cannot depend on people protecting him all the time and I don't want him to get hurt." People making those same posts about Marinette are only ever deconstructing her impact on other people -- usually Adrien.

As for the rest of it.... It's been a few hours since this came in and I've been thinking about this ask all day. And I think part of the issue with discussing the Ladynoir power imbalance and that whole issue, etc etc, is that everyone thinks they know how to solve the problems.

To be quite clear: I'm guilty of this.

We all think we know what dynamic Ladybug and Chat Noir need to have to be "healthy." In reality, the main thing they need to be healthy is to have Gabriel removed from their lives. No dynamic changing will improve their relationship more than dynamically kicking Gabriel Agreste into a prison cell.

But once that happens, we all think we know exactly what they need to do in order to preserve their sense of selves and relationship with one another. When in reality, it's so much messier than that.

What Adrien and Marinette need to do is experiment. Figure out what each of them needs to do and where they need to help their personal shortcomings to have both of their needs met. Yeah, there's some basic things that obviously need to happen: Adrien needs to be more forthcoming about his feelings, Marinette needs to be more attentive, both of them need a little patience.

But we have no idea what exactly they need to do to make their relationship work. So when someone says confidently "Marinette needs to give up the Miracle Box" or "Adrien needs to be Guardian with her" or "Adrien needs to know who all the identities of the heroes are" I'm starting to be doubtful that we can really know what impact this would have on their relationship at all.

I'm guilty of this, like I said. But the more I think about it, the more I don't think there's any way to confidently identify solutions in something as variable and fragile as a relationship. A lot harder than identifying problems, anyway.

So let's get real, first. Louie is possibly the most adorable character peter lorre has played and thats saying something. The way he rubs his eyes when he wakes up, the way he feels so dang good about himself in his nice suit, the way he just wants lobster with thermidor, his big sad eyes whenever he's scared or worried. I...just love him so much, man

Honestly, the characters in this flick are adorable in general. My favourite Peter Lorre film is aaol and the main reason is that every character in it is so loveable or at the very least enjoyable. I find this is actually pretty rare for a Peter film, where usually the only loveable character is him and maybe to a lesser extent, one or two others and everyone else can go jump in a lake. But I'll give a million is the only other Peter lorre film I can think if where im so invested in so many of the characters

Jeans definitely the second best character. I love her so much! So peppy and nice and no nonsense. I love her voice, I love her fun outfits, I love the way she's ready to throw hands with a cop for bothering her friends and I especially love the way she just lies so much. Even when she probably didn't have to, like saying Tony was cool with getting shot out of a canon if the other guy couldn't do it. Queen.

I'm a big fan of uncle Victor too. He such a chill, nice old man and I love him being the one to fill the role of the brides parents at the wedding

Something that is a bit uncomfortable about IGAM is how unsympathetic it is towards the homeless. I mean yeah, what can you expect from a film from 1938, but the homeless are mostly portrayed as freeloading drunks and criminals. Even louies implied to be a drunk and is stealing shit at the end(although I chalk that up entirely to kopelpeck making him do it). I guess the more well off people in the film are shown to be greedy, unkind scumbags themselves tbf, but still

Speaking of, it's crazy how far being nice to peter lorre gets you where likeability is concerned-at least for me. I feel like I should hate Tony for his lack of self awareness about how much better his life is than most peoples. But Tony has a redeeming quality that most similar leading male characters in Peters films don't. He's not a complete see-you-next-Tuesday to the loveable peter lorre character for no godamn reason. This is especially admirable in IGAM since he's honestly the only character who doesn't kick poor louie around at least a little

Maxie is so gross. But! so fun to watch. Mr fritz Feld did an amazing job. Wonder if this guys the French nephew of kasper Gutman

Speaking of headcanons, Wikipedia says that Louies full name is Louie Monteau, but he's referred to as a German in the restaurant scene. So im thinking Louie was born and raised in Germany to a French father and a German mother. Maybe he moved to/ran away to France hoping to have connections from his French family that didn't end up working out, possibly due to them rejecting him because they disapproved of his mother since that sounds about right giving the films trend of everyone just being awful to Louie

Louie and kopelpeck is probably my most obscure ship rn. The good thing about nobody else having seen this film is that there are no fun police to reprimand me for grasping at the fact that they were sitting next to eachother at Jean and Tony's wedding as proof that they became a couple

I also HC Kopelpeck as being kind of the jealous type and disliking/not trusting Tony because he thinks Louie has a crush on him. Whether or not Louie actually does have a crush on Tony is something I go back and fourth on since he does call him handsome and a gentlemen and talks about him pretty dreamily, but if he didn't, kopelpecks distrust would fit the theme of people rudely accusing louie of things

That guy at the end who narrates Tony's actions with the cheque book is pretty good too. Again, like aaol this film has a lot of great small bits with characters who are barely in the film

I don’t know where I’m going with this but I almost think the influx of Rachel stans has decreased the quality of the sub, because most of the comments from them involve dragging down other characters faults to prove that she’s not so bad. In that sense I’ve seen more and more very subtle support toward Lea Michele. No hate toward Rachel stans though, not on Tumblr much but from what I’ve seen they’re absolutely lovely here, just the sub ones are giving off weird vibes.

Hmm yeah tbf with almost all fans I'm like "the Tumblr ones are chill but can be unhinged on reddit".

I can't say I've noticed the same with Rachel stans but that doesn't mean it isn't a valid point and at this point it has been months since I was on active on the sub, so. The general feeling of trying to defend a character/ship by dragging another has always been there, unfortunately. The constant comparisons are exhausting especially when people just do it to justify their likes. I've said it before, will say it a million times, you don't need to justify what you like with some moral imperative and fandom stops being fun when people do that.

I can't say I envy Rachel stans as it seemed like a week couldn't go by without someone shitting on her for really no reason other than vitriol for the sake of it and because it's become trendy to do so. But like you I'm also annoyed by people dragging others down to prove she's not so bad. I know it's easy to say and I can't say I've never taken the anti Santana bait but it's best to just ignore these posts.

Most Lea related things I've seen on the sub were very negative, at times downright nasty so that's new. It's an interesting observation, maybe the sub is swinging another way now and perhaps going down the road of a different but equally unfun extreme. Sadly it's never going to be fun as long as it's just different fractions of the fandom going up against and slandering one another. So often people, and not just Rachel fans, resort to useless whataboutism. Once again I can only say that it's a shame what the sub has become. Not that this wasn't an aspect of it even when I first joined but now the good stuff is gone and it's only things like this.

"My favourite is superior because yours did so and so and they suck (even more)" is never gonna make for a good time in fandom.

i honestly don’t really know what to make of it so far. if i’m being honest; it kinda reminds me of a cbbc show but with a large budget & with cool depictions of horror & gore. if i’m being specific it reminds me of a cbbc show called leonardo idk why it just has similar vibes to me.

spike is my favourite. hands down as soon as he started with his stories i was like yes, that is the one. the character i want to 100% befriend. i haven’t seen all of it yet but there seems to be less spike as it goes on & that’s really annoying because he’s brilliant. i purely want to get to the end to see if there’s more to learn about him because he’s fun.

bea is my other favourite she’s fantastic. i am in love with her & just blown away by her character. she’s really cool & probably one of the better if not the best teen leaders i’ve seen on a show in a long time. she cares so much about her found family & really just doesn’t give a fuck. she’s actually brilliant & i think she’s just amazing.

i really love jessie. i love those kind of powerful characters. she’s so intriguing & i kinda ship her with spike? i’m not one to really avidly ship a hetro couple but it’s the little things between them & to be fair they both deserve the best.

i feel like I’m signing my own execution warrant here but i’m just gonna say it. i’m not really a fan of the other two lads. they’re not bad, but they’re kinda just there for me. i don’t particularly like either of them. maybe my opinion will change of them when i actually finish the show.

i like the concept of it. i’m really not a fan of modern adaptions of the holmesverse so the setting won me over. i’ve only ever really liked the jeremy brett sherlock tbf but i did enjoy enola holmes. i’m not really sure what to make of the core sherlock holmes characters but i like this take on watson & this is the only mycroft i haven’t wanted to see yeeted.

honestly what’s really bothered me is the modern music it just doesn’t feel right. some shows can pull it off but this one it just doesn’t fit right for some reason. idk. i’m looking forward to finishing the show.

This fic is so amazing!! It goes so deep into their psychology and past and damn is it hilarious at time. Also, I love the premise of it - Catra is a Uber driver and Adora ends up as her passenger. It's a fairly slowburn as it goes deep into the two girls' lives and really gives time for the relationship to develop naturally and that is honestly really appreciated because it makes the good moments between the two even better and more rewarding if I'm honest. A lot of angst though. All the other characters we know and love are also written amazingly in it too, and are made equally important. All in all, I love this fic and everything about it!

As of writing it has fairly infrequent updates, but each chapter is 10-20k+ words and has 9/12 chapters so...there’s a lot.

The story and world building is just - WOAH. This one is quite the slowburn but boy is it worth it. It's set a couple months to a year after season one, where Catra finally captures Adora but the tables turn very quickly when capturing her nearly results in her death, which Catra (unsurprisingly) didn’t want. The story has some BIG plot twists and is definitely one of the best canon universe Catradora fics I’ve ever read and the ending was very satisfying, but also open ended, BECAUSE there’s a part 2 coming and I couldn’t be more excited!

(Also, there is one chapter with nsfw content in it, but it has a sfw version)

3. Skinny Love by Maychup (o) 89,000+ words

Another amazing fic that takes place in the canon universe that has such great world building, and is very plot heavy. It takes place days after the S1 finale and goes from there basically. The premise of it is similar to many fics and one shots you’ve probably read - sleeping with the enemy. From the first chapter it seemed like it could have easily been a five chapter easy redemption fic but nooooooo, it goes a lot LOT deeper. I feel like this fic did such a great job on character development, Catra’s specifically, she grows so much throughout the fic. She is also such a mother to all her Horde pals in this and I love that haha.

At the time of writing, it’s still ongoing, and boy am I excited to see where it goes. It’s also super angsty and has a fair-ish amount of smut so be warned!

4. The Heiress and The thief by Fuhadeza (f) 58,000+ words

As it says in the fic summary, it is literally the She-Ra regency AU I never knew I wanted likeeee, it’s so good! Premise - Adora is taken by Lady Brightmoon, leaving her boarding school, and her best friend behind, Catra, and everything is fine until her old friend face resurfaces. This one had me screaming at times (most of them did, but this especially). It was a really enjoyable read and I honestly loved the way the author dealt with love and the way Adora dealt with her feelings and just ahhh- read it.

5. Faded with feelings by yesimgay (f) 24,000+ words

[Roomates AU][T]

This fic. I read this a WHILEEE ago but to this day this is one of my favourite fan-fics ever like it’s hilarious, and fluffy and unproblematic and sometimes you need that tbh. Everything you need to know is established in the first chapter but the way it is done feels so natural, as if it’s just Adora‘s or Catra’s thoughts and I love it. Also the premise is GREAT - Catra has ADHD and smokes weed to help with it, and Adora accidentally takes an edible, which is when shenanigans start to ensue.

6. Dream of Me by DBsean (f) 18,000+ words

[Canon Universe][T]

Although it is on the shorter side with only five chapters, this was another fic that was so so good in quality and premise. For whatever reason, Catra and Adora start sharing dreams, enabling them to share moments together that they (unfortunately) can't have in real life, due to them being on opposite sides of the war, and in turn - enemies. The angst in this fic literally KILLED ME, and the characters dialogue is so good as well! I also recommend you check out some of the authors other fics, they're all great!

7. we've been making shades of purple out of red and blue by darklady21(o) 19,000+ words

[Roomates AU][M]

Another Roomates AU, bUT instead of being best friends, the two barely know each other, or interact at all...GREAT RIGHT?!? Honestly though, I think the author did a great job in making it not seem too rushed, especially in the setup and establishing how although they know each other, they DONT know each other, so the first couple chapters are basically that stage where they are learning more about each other and leaving stupid post it notes around the house, and it just feels so natural and great! Updates aren’t super regular, but there’s already nine chapters (as of writing) so definitely check it out, as well as their other works too!

8. Razorback by Starr_Reborn(o) 22,000+ words

[Canon Divergence AU][M]

Apparently, the author wrote this with the intent of it being fluffy. From the title you can tell that is NOT the case. At all. This one HURTS. This is very very angsty, and also has some themes of rape in it, so if that kinda thing triggers you I might wanna skip out on this one. It is a really good fic though and stands out from a lot of the others because of the way it is written. Chapters aren’t usually longer that 1000 words and the writing style is quite disjointed at times, and it a lot of the time a stream of consciousness. At times it can even be a little confusing or hard to follow, but I find it makes it even more interesting, and also means it will probably be a fic I come back to once completed. It is genuinely so unpredictable, I have no clue where it’s going, but I really love it for that!

9. Sunflower by TechnoSkittles (f) 6000+ words

Oh, BOY. Oh boyyy. This fic - it's 8 chapters and only 6000 words yet the story is just- Ahhh READ IT. It's so good! And like the author in general is so amazing at writing like check out all their works (especially their latest one shot omg I loved it). Anyway, read this, it's not too long, it's cute and also genuinely surprising, the ending was not something I saw coming AT ALL, so YEAH!

It is a lil angsty at times, but not to worry - but it does pay off, I assure you.

It's about Adora coming to terms with her sexuality throughout high school in a pretty unsupportive environment, added onto the fact she has a crush on her best friend. It's paced so well, nothing feels rushed and although it's only 9000 words, it manages to flesh out characters that aren't even in the show, and it obviously does a great job with the topic at hand - sexuality and homophobia. Like it honestly touched my heart, reading it I genuinely wanted to cry. I loved everything about it, from the moment it started to the last line. It's just written in a way that is probably relatable to so many people who are or have struggled with coming to terms with themselves, and shows how for some it's really not an easy thing. It's also written beautifully, and I PROMISE you won't regret reading this! Definitely check out some more of their works too, they're all great reads!

A belle valentine's day fan fic which I just,, ahhhhh this is some of the best 16k words I've ever read, it's so nice and fluffy! Premise - Catra has to take the bus to school, and ends up sitting next to this cute girl on the bus, Adora, and listening to TayTay (Swift), sharing earphones with this complete stranger. Obviously, Catra develops a crush, but she is sure Adora is straight. It's written so well, and is such an enjoyable read, with so many great moments and dialogue. Music is a very prevalent theme (which you can tell from the name tbh) in it, and the amount of song references in it also make it feel so fleshed out in a way, like their both just teenagers with somewhat questionable music taste. Just all the exchanges they have are great, especially the ones over text and social media, there were so many funny moments too. DEFO, recommend if you wanna read something nice and lighthearted!

It's one of the most creative fic ideas I've ever read, and the concept is executed so well, which makes it even better. And it's, so so damn sweet ahh, read it read it READ IT!

Also, if you didn’t already notice, the title (and the fic) heavily references the fact Adora keeps a knife under her bed (I DIED when that happened in s2).  Set post war, Catra sneaks away from her post to visit an overworked and stressed Adora in Bright Moon and cuteness ensues. I honestly just love everything about this fic, we need more fluffy and funny fics like this! The dynamic the two have in this is perfect and the dialogue and general writing style of it is great! And Adora’s internal dialogue in this honest to god had me dead. Needless to say this is one of my fav Canon Universe one shots.

Catra brings home the only survivors from a tragedy her and Scorpia stumbled upon, but one thing Adora doesn’t expect is for them to be children. The,, emotions in this are so raw and powerful. Even though they obviously have these new little people in their life though, their problems don’t just go away, they still have their own issues, and have to deal with them while looking after these kids. In general they handle mental health so well, and Shadow Weavers lasting effect on Catra SHOWS and it shows hard. Honestly, it made me want to cry at some parts and the ending was EVERYTHING, so reAd IT.

A really fun fic to read, with a very original premise: after the Horde defeats the kingdom Bright Moon, Hordak is crowned, Queen Angella was killed, and Princess Glimmer is missing, which leaves Lady Adora forced into an arranged marriage with Lord Catra, to keep her people happy. Obviously, being an arranged marriage, with her enemy, she ain’t too happy about it, nor is Catra. But they have to put up with it, and each other. Honestly, like the development of their relationships is sooo good, and there is the perfect balance e of angst and fluff (if you can call it that?) so don’t worry it won’t kill you! Like ahh, the emotions in this - so well described with so little words. And the ending is great, in general it’s great!

I just love it so much because I feel like this is genuinely something Adora would do, and also something I’d probably do in her situation - Catra opening up is a rare occurrence! Also, as I said, their are some really funny, laugh out loud moments, which out of context are so weird, yet somehow manage to make a lot of sense. Anyway, if you just had a bad day, I think this fic would definitely lift your spirits.

The small details the author outs into the characters makes the characters all that more realisitic too, and I love it! Seriously though, the angst, will, get, you.

Female Servant Designs Pt. 1 - S/N, Zero + Prototype Fragments

After a recent discussion over on Reddit had me seeing some of the worst garbage this fandom has to offer, I wanted to have a look at the designs of female servants in the Fate franchise.

Below, I’ve looked at the designs of female servants from Stay/Night (And a bit of Unlimited Codes), Zero, and Prototype Fragments and their corresponding appearances in FGO (not including being summoned into other classes) and what, if anything, bothered me about their designs. This is going to be a multiple part post.

tl;dr

considering that Stay Night was an eroge game, the female designs are actually pretty tasteful. Similar for Zero and Prototype Fragments. They don’t get really weird fan service designs/poses until FGO.

Medusa was like, probably the most questionable in the original S/N, but to be honest, it wasn’t that bad. For her fighting style, it was actually suitable. So no real complaints from me really. I would have liked to have seen something that reflected her origins a bit more, rather then her looking like, a ninja, I guess, but that’s about it. Her final ascensions in FGO is when we start getting into very obvious fan service territory.

Medea’s design is also something I didn’t have any problems with. Since you see her majority of the time with a cape/hood on, she actually feels pretty shapeless and she serves mostly in an antagonistic role in pretty much all the routes anyway, so this is pretty great tbh. Again, my only complaint for this would be that I would’ve liked an outfit that was a better homage to her origins. Medea’s final ascension in FGO is ironically also devoid of any fan service.

Saber’s armour choice is not something I would’ve personally gone with, but that’s more to do with the fact that, in her story, she was a woman pretending to be a man. Other than that, I still really like her design. Her armor actually looks kind of practical (I don’t know if it actually would be, but given that it’s magically enchanted maybe that doesn’t matter?) and while not any means historically accurate, still invokes a feeling of knighthood.

In Fate Zero, she was the only female servant summoned (not counting one of the personas of Hassan), and let me just say, seeing her in a suit? Fucking loved it. Really put her up there in waifu tier for me. Sometimes more is more.

The original Saber class Arturia we see in FGO is also devoid of any fanservice as she starts out in her dress (which there was nothing wrong with) then GAINS her armor and a cape (but, I guess tbf, nearly every other class Arturia can be summoned in in FGO has ridiculous amounts of fan service).

Saber Alter is the ‘corrupted’ form of our original Arturia Saber. And honestly? There’s nothing wrong with this design. From a story point of view, if Alter Servants are supposed to be corrupted with the mud of the grail, I would’ve loved to have seen more “eldritch horror” vibes instead of just a pallet colour swap for black, red and flecks of gold but, eh.

The dress Salter wears under her armor is noticable a bit more ... feminine? I guess you could say it’s sexually provoking, but honestly, not by much.

In FGO, it’s the same with the exception of her final ascension, where the dress is redesigned to be a little more provocative, but is not necessarily what I would call tasteless, more just eye-rolling of “ok I guess”. Not the worst, but not that great either.

Saber Lily’s never been animated to my knowledge, and to be honest, I’m going to be a little sad about that because this is actually one of my FAVOURITE designs for Arturia. I actually really considered buying a figurine of her when I was younger and still kind of do.

Her design is distinctly a lot more feminine, but she still has armor in mostly the same places as regular Saber Arturia does. While she does lose the armour in her ascensions in FGO, and even her dress becomes shorter, even her final ascension does not provoke feelings of sexual nature. Rather, of innocent beauty. A very stark and somewhat startling comparison to the other Lily forms we see in FGO (which I’ll get into a much later date).

The Assassin in Fate/Zero manifested as multiple personas (in FGO, she is known as Hassan of Hundred faces, apparently she has multiple personality disorder?), and only one of them was noticeably female. For whatever reason, her design never bothered me much either, mostly because it was similar to the design of all of the other assassins and she’s seen so little in Zero and never presented in a way that suggests she was created for that fan-service bait (also, check out that six pack, folks). Her final ascension in FGO makes me role my eyes a little at the very obvious fan service bait, but that has more to do with the pose then her.

In Prototype Fragments, another female Hassan-i-Sabbah servant is introduced, Hassan of the Serenity. Her design... bothered me more if only because she appeared to be a bit younger then her ‘big sister’, but the designer did say that they based it off what was already given to previous Hassan-i-Sabbah servants. I mean, I... guess it makes sense given that her role is basically seduction then poisoning? But she in general gives off a vibe more similar to “innocent or sweet” then anything sexual. Not the most problematic design, but not the best.

The only other female servant summoned during Prototype Fragments is Brynhildr. And like... She’s ok? She has bits of armour on, but they’re decorative and not practical. She looks like she’d be more at home in a Kingdom Hearts or even a magical girl anime, and I can’t really say her design invokes feelings of Norse mythology.

In her final ascensions, she actually gains more decorative/non-functional armor and even her pose in the final ascension card is not sexual, but gives me more the vibe of an enchanting beauty.
