so its part of a way longer post i made some days ago but i want to highlight this part of it:
"i cant stop thinking about the devs saying sth like "after botw zelda wondered if the kingdom of hyrule needed to keep existing the way it had been before the calamity, but then totk happens" bc it just feels like they realized too late that botw naturally led into questioning the status quo and they scrambled to fit it back into a flat and boring road we have seen so many times before (or even worse really) with totk zeldas character naturally leads into her questioning and reexamine their history and set of rules? we gotta teach her a lesson of why she is importante god given monarchy girl that has to keep it bc what if evil brown man shows up again for no reason maybe im grasping at straws here but looking at it this way the sonau .. make more "sense"; the shiekah were a group that was under the rule of the royal family, and misstreated before (oh no look soemthing interesting) so they dont lend themselves well to be used for teaching zelda that lesson- the sonau however are tailored really to be just that; they are a supposedly godly race from the literal sky that founded this version of hyrule, that had tech even more advanced and better than the shiekah, she gets put in the past to meet the perfect god king of goodness personally, also his very fridgy wifey that zelda later replaces in a way, shes put there and treated like family and then gets to see just how evil that evil big man from the desert is, sonia is falcon-punched to death solely so zelda can feel obligated to take over her role, have her new, better 'family' hurt by gan; similarly so raurus sacrifice, look what a noble and good king he is, he payed the ultimate price to lock that evil man away, now zelda you cannot let their sacrifice go to waste, rebuild that divinely good kingdom like it was!!"
bc it feels like i finally "cracked the code" of why the sonau feel both like a reskinned version of the shikeah .. while also not at all to me, so shoved into every single corner of the game and its history (not even the forgotten temple being safe from them sure is .... also something, like them being spread all over hyrule, not just the undergound, but the surface AND sky as well isnt weird enough, the shiekah at least were integrated into the world and by far not as idolized as the sonau)
seeing the sonau like this ""better"" and more """perfect"" version of the shiekah bc they are untainted by any possible complicated relationships with especially the royal family (the sonau ARE the prefect, idyllic royal family of the past after all) makes them make so much more "sense" to me, they are a bad mix of OOTs and botws structure, sure, but the way they were done in the game i cannot for the life of me see it as that being their sole problem
(also looking at how shiekah tech was downgraded to some side gimick of purah ... idk if they ever even call it shiekah at all anymore, and if "all sheikah tech just vanished" like the devs said then ... how does any of that still exist huh? it doesnt add up at all except if you see it as the sonau being the ""better"" version of the shiekah with none of the "problematic" parts or history or conenctions (which would be .. interesting) bc they are supposed to represent that idyllic past zelda should feel obligated to recreate now, to uphold that sweet status quo ..
sidenote: someone on the post i talked about his before said its also dumbo that there is supposedly no connection at all between the shiekah and sonau, and yes! that was something i ranted about while i was still playing the game back in may even (most of my later gameplay at some point devolves into a rant about how stupid it is that there is no connection and instead its all just ... gone) bc its just ... so dumb
its also how i chose to integrate the sonau better into the world in my totk rewrite stuff, that they were once there aand had high tech but its by now only crumbs left with nothing funtcioning anymore but you discover that at the time of the ancient shiekah finding it it was still researchable and they build their tech based on the sonau ruins even if the sonau stuff is nothing but dust anymore- which i find a super ... obvious way to give the sonau a better connection to the existing world, keep the shiekah, expand upon their mystery while also still keepign them as such-
.... anyway, there beign no connection at all somehow also fits even more into my theory of the sonau, again, being there solely to represent the idyllic, perfect past zelda needs to feel obligated to rebuild while the shiekah are nothign but a funney gimick of purah now while everything else "just vanished" somehow bc we dont wanna deal with the shiekahs imperfect past so they really should be just a a helpful helper of the rocals (and the yiga a side note as a little threat to be different from the usual monsters but thats all that there is :)))) -
this is getting too long again .. feel free to add your two cents on it and if seeign the sonau like this makes them make more 'sense' to you too

Twisted. Ganondorf x Zonai Princess Fic. Chapter 1: the tragic princess
Summary: Ganondorf notices the way the princess shies away from him and enacts a plan to manipulate her. Little does he know, Zonai are much more animalistic than the stories lead him to believe. You can't fight your instinct when it comes to your mate. Triggers for manipulation on ganondorf's part. Hypnosis/Mind Control magic. Murder. blood. But more, oh so more importantly...We do be fucking Ganondorf so like...snoo-snoo ;)
Tumblr media
Princess of Hyrule.
Daughter of Beautiful Sonia and Benevolent Rauru.
Daughter of Hylia's Grace.
Whore of the Demon King.
These were titles Y/N held long after the Imprisoning War. No one ever knew what had happened, only that she was twisted by the magic of the Demon King. It was a long-since-forgotten shame of the kingdom that even Zelda knew nothing of.
Y/N was a quiet young princess who wanted only to serve Hyrule, hoping to one day rule the same as her parents and keep peace among her people. While she had no hopes of marriage, there was no denying the connection she felt.
His amber eyes studied the royal family before locking onto her. Her heart jolted as he blinked, keeping a stone face as he quickly fixed his gaze down.
She took a slow breath as her body began to surge with some foreign sensation. It only spurred again when she'd been walking towards the gardens and saw him.
Y/N bowed gracefully as he reciprocated the gesture. "I've heard a lot of stories about you from the soldiers," She said, breaking the silence. "You're truly a great warrior?"
"It is how I earned my position to the throne," He said simply.
His voice sent a shudder through her body as she tilted her head. "Pardon if this seems presumptuous," She began, making him straighten. "I heard that a Gerudo male, born only every hundred years or so, was given the throne as his birthright."
Ganondorf nodded. "You are correct, but my people are of warriors. We wouldn't let just anyone rule unless they earned it. However, my upbringing is what sowed this outcome."
"Your birthright, but earned," she muttered, smiling. "I see. Thank you."
"Do you study Gerudo Culture?" he asked, watching her reactions. She was a young thing, likely only just entering adulthood, though small. She was about the same height as that cousin of hers, Zelda, who was in her twenties. Though he wondered if height meant anything in age regarding Hylians. She was so naive.
"As much as I can from here," she offered. "My duties keep me anchored to the castle and unable to do much else." She studied him for a moment before asking, "Lord Ganondorf, would you like to walk with me through the castle? Or even see the garden?"
"The Garden of Time, correct?" He asked, correcting his face to mask his eagerness. "I had heard stories of it. I never thought I'd see it myself."
Y/N smiled and nodded, turning before leading him. The king watched her as she walked. She was completely at ease, showing no fear or even a hint of awareness to his intentions. Her father was a fool in keeping him close to the castle, unaware that the Gerudo would manipulate his precious daughter. The moment she turned his back to him, her fate was sealed as his alone.
He followed her out to the garden, studying the sacred place. It wasn't anything extraordinary, he realized until he saw the Temple of Time looming over as the bells tolled lowly.
Ganondorf watched the constructs end their duties and return to their stations for the evening. The sun was dipping slowly down, sending a glow over the garden. Even he confessed the beauty of the place aloud, making the princess smile as she led him deeper in.
"The constructs work hard to maintain it, but the magic training does help," she confessed. Upon his blink, she tucked her hair behind her long ear. "The garden is sacred because it has more of a connection to our goddess, Hylia. At least, that's what my mother tells me often."
Ganondorf watched her lift her hand, as though cupping water as a small orb of light flickered into her palm before vanishing.
"You need to master it still," He realized, earning a nod. "Perhaps, I can help. Magic is rather difficult to learn."
"I'm aware," She sighed softly before smiling up at him. "Any advice at this point is welcomed," She chuckled. "I know I'll get it eventually but it helps learning from others that use it."
He nodded and looked around. "A private place to sit?" He asked her, earning a nod before he was led to a quiet area in the back of the garden.
The constructs were humming idly in their stations, waiting for the morning bells as they found a small pavilion to sit at. Or at least it was small with Ganondorf inside it.
Y/N giggled as she'd let him sit first, getting comfortable before humming and sitting beside him. He had blinked at her closeness, studying her flushed face as they spoke.
This princess was infatuated with him, he realized. His confirmation was the soft purr that rumbled in her throat when he cupped her hands in his, seeing how small she was in comparison to him.
"Is something wrong, Princess?" He asked softly. He was practically cackling at the flushed look as she ripped away from him like he was a flame and she were a parchment. "Princess Y/N?" He asked again.
Her heart hammered as he carefully took her hand again. Everything in her body was screaming with joy as she tried to understand why she was suddenly flustered by his touch.
The sun dipped below the trees, concealing them as he asked, "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine. Just uh…" She cleared her throat. "I should get back."
"Not until you tell me the truth," he insisted. "You're…purring? I think you enjoy my touch, but don't know what to do."
Y/N gulped thickly as his thumb pressed along the inside of her palm, making her heart skip as she took in the warmth of his skin. "I-I know–" She cleared her throat again. "I know why it's happening. It's just…a strange feeling."
"Then follow your instincts," he said softly, leaning closer. Her heart hammered as his eyes darted to her lips before locking with hers. "You have more power than I do here."
With that, Y/N was lost as she gave into her instincts and kissed him, damning her spirit to never find peace again as his hands quickly found her waist to pull her in.

Picked up Tears of the Kingdom for my birthday this year and played it over an art sabbatical. After beating it, I have some thoughts about a pair of critters.
Consider this a "spoiler" line for those who haven't beaten the game.
I've been pondering over the Light Dragon and the Tears associated with her transformation. When you take everything given about the transformation at face value, this dragon bursts into being with no sense of self, but presumably still carrying intact though likely scattered memories of when she was still Zelda. Her first act is to shed tears, presumably created through an intense sorrow borne out of thoughts, concerns, and memories that she no longer understands. Her "new" mind is struck with immense emotional pain that now probably just repeats itself over and over as she aimlessly patrols the skies of Hyrule for thousands of years until a man pulls a toothpick out of her forehead. Alternatively, the shedding of tears is symbolic of the final vestiges of Zelda's self as it ebbs away in her new existence, leaving her mind a blank slate unable to recall, process, or attribute anything to anything.
Of course, the game pulls a cop-out and goes "oh, she was just sleeping this whole time!" at the end, which I think is bullshit, but fine, we can't have Zelda scarred for the remainder of her life. We'll just say her memories of flying aimlessly for however long were just yeeted by the mercy of Sophia and Rauru and leave it at that. The implication is probably a reversal via some super powered Recall, but still.
Then comes Ganon, who takes the same road in an effort to cling to power. A new dragon that, just like Zelda, has no self - just a ream of memories and what is probably a deep, directionless, unfathomable anger towards an insignificant entity. How awful must these paired existences be? How aware are they, truly?
A repeated note in the compendium entries for all of the dragons is: "it causes [x deadly phenomena when people are in close range], but it means no harm." I thought about this later and played with the idea that, what if, even taking story circumstances in hand, Ganon's dragon was the same as the rest in this specific regard - creating phenomena out of no actual intent to harm so much as an instinctual self defence mechanism against an unknown "thing" approaching him. Does Ganon still actually recognise Link from all of 30 seconds ago? Or is he just an animal with the same blank slate as Zelda? Whichever the case, despite all the damage he's done, this feels like an especially tragic end for Ganondorf in the sense that, he technically becomes an entirely new entity that has done absolutely nothing except be confronted by a pair of unfamiliar creatures, and is smote in barely a few minutes. Minutes of existence either fraught with confusing memories of anger and violence, or a blank mind with no comprehensive ability, snuffed out due to an inherent danger he poses through, in a way, no "fault" of his own in this new body and mind.
Just a fun thought I had. I've been wondering since I started playing and seeing all of the Memories, if at any point Ganondorf (or Link and Zelda for that matter) has ever actually possessed free will in being the manifestation (?) of the Triforce of Power (or its spirit? My Zelda lore is rusty as hell and super limited).
ETA: also, I really appreciate the addition of a pig's nose on Ganon's dragon form. A+, I love it.

Chapter Ten: Melody - (written for @zelinktines24 day 10 prompt)
Read below or HERE
Link’s heart pounds as he races through the house looking for Zelda. The visit with Robbie and Jerrin and her subsequent breakdown has exhausted her, and Link had been hesitant to leave her that morning. However, they needed supplies and she insisted she’d be fine for the few hours he’d be gone in Tarrey Town.
His panic rises to epic levels as he calls her name and checks the last room, only to find it empty. Sprinting downstairs, he rushes outside, hands in his hair, and turns in a slow circle wondering where she could have gone. He forces himself to scan the sky above, but it’s thankfully clear of any celestial body, clouds, dragons, or otherwise. Grantéson’s voice cuts through Link’s whirling thoughts, informing him he saw Zelda heading up the path toward the Rasitakiwak Shrine not long ago.
Link shouts a harried thanks as he runs up the hill to the shrine that overlooks the house. He cleared out the constructs long ago, but he hurries all the same. His body vibrates with tension as the elevator descends at what feels like an agonizingly slow pace. Jumping off the platform before it completely settles, Link moves into the dimly lit, cavernous space.
After the machinery’s rumble ceases Link can hear a faint melody echoing through the large hall. That’s new, or he never noticed it before. Once his eyes adjust he follows the sound of the music, looking around pillars and in the darkened corners of the room as he progresses.
Approaching the doorway that leads to the cella, relief floods through Link when he sees Zelda standing in front of Rauru and Sonia’s statues. Her hands are clasped at her breast and she softly sings. Link strains to make out the words, but it sounds like she’s singing in an ancient Hylian dialect. Mesmerized, he pauses at the threshold to observe. As she sings, her hands begin to glow and she opens them, revealing her secret stone.
Link’s heart seizes in his chest, as he holds back a gasp. How can she be so calmly holding it? Doesn’t she remember the physical pain it caused her and the mental anguish him? It takes all his willpower not to charge to the altar, knock the cursed stone from her hands and smash it to smithereens with his sword.
Instead, he clenches his fists and tries to even out his ragged breath while Zelda continues to weave a sorrowful melody that floats in the air around them. The golden light she holds pulses in time, casting eerie shadows over Rauru and Sonia’s stony visages as she draws to a close.
When the last of her echoing voice dissipates and the glow fades from her fingers, Link straightens up and steps inside. His voice comes out in a trembling rasp when he speaks. “Why do you have your stone?”
“Oh!” Zelda startles, eyes darting to the side when she turns and sees him. Her cheeks redden, but she quickly regains her composure, and clasps her hands in front of her, hiding the stone from sight. “I thought maybe if I came here… with the stone, I’d feel their presence. But, I suppose they’re truly gone.”
Sighing, she pockets the wretched stone as she approaches Link, and holds out her hand. He hesitates, wanting to pursue her reasoning behind using the stone. Despite her melancholy, she seems content. He’ll ruin the moment if he voices his misgivings. Link shoves his trepidation to the side and focuses on trying to enjoy the time with her he’s been given.
Hoping she won’t feel how much he’s shaking, he takes her hand and leads her out into the large antechamber, leaving the ghosts of the past behind them.
Zelda looks over with worry in her eyes. “I didn’t mean to frighten you.”
He nods, looking into her emerald green eyes, shining with unshed tears for her long-lost mentors. Link longs to kiss away all the pain and remind her of what they once had.
Zelda must sense the direction his thoughts have taken, since her flush deepens and she ducks her head, twisting away to gaze at the ceiling. “What was the puzzle in this one?”
Link’s disappointment is tangible, but maybe he deserves to feel this way. He can’t help thinking if only he’d been better, stronger, none of this would have happened. He’s to blame for her being lost, and forced to swallow the stone.
“Running over constructs with a concrete slab and shooting them with a cannon.” Link points where the vehicle he’d modified still rests against the wall. She used to love studying the Sheikah technology and had come more alive helping Robbie. If she wasn’t ready for a kiss, perhaps… “Want to see if it still works before we go?”
“Of course! I imagine you enjoyed that immensely.” Zelda releases his hand to pull her journal from her pocket. “Mind if I take notes?”
“How are you going to do that if you’re steering?” The way her eyes light up makes up for his fear, her distance, and is the best reward Link’s ever received inside a shrine.
Many thanks to @floraunderground for betaing this!!!

i still think link botw/totk would be a knight of space. breath comes sort of close but hes also a bit too dutiful to everyone as a community, but not in a karkat knight of blood way; the breath/blood axis isn’t what he’s bound to. he’s definitely on the space/time axis. you look at me and tell me this isnt link. link protecting people through space and protecting space (and time gets involved as well…..which could signify a connection to space/time aspects. but his arcs, where he is most in his element and zone, are more involved with the present, while zelda’s is more involved with the past and future)
bularia tells link that he has a “flair for the absurd” after talking about fusing a mushroom to a spear, a wink to creative players who made the world their sandbox back in botw and inspired the totk creative team with their magnesis minecart flying machines. but this also means “flair for the absurd” this is part of link’s canon character attributes
Tumblr media
(x)
ever look at your hero’s path mode on the map? doesn’t this description seem familiar? what totk did was give the sandbox plenty of toys, and made it somehow even more obvious with the green-colored power motif. the free rotation of objects on three axes and the abillity to glue them to other objects in any way and detach them at will. the ability to fuse weapons and objects to weapons, exploiting space / “creation” literally as a weapon. oh yeah and straight up ascending vertically through solid objects
about the knight, link’s functional relation to this aspect, should be obvious and fits the boy like a glove:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the funny thing is that the zonai secret stones are kind of like aspects in of themselves arent they?
the aspects of the secret stones are more physical than conceptual. wind, water, fire, lightning. and then spirit for some reason but that would be kind of close to heart aspect (self)….minus the conceptual side. wind is also sort of analogous to breath but minus the conceptual side of breath, just literally windy thing.
time is time. i wonder if there are “different” time users, because all we’ve seen so far is one ability: recall, used by sonia and given to link, is sending an object’s path back in time at the small scale. or when more powerful capable of sending the object as it is now back in time outside of itself like zelda did, so instead of zelda sending herself back to when she was conceived over 100 years ago as a zygote, she accidentally sent herself back to like the equivalent of caveman times in real years but she is still the same chronological age as she was right before.
anyway but there’s only like, two classes we know: sages and kings. rauru is a king of light. oh yeah there’s a light secret stone power also. light in zelda seems to be analogous to hope in homestuck though in that its a upheavel darkness/“rage” opposed power
Tumblr media
ganondorf’s aspect is totally rage dont even talk to me
Tumblr media
the sativa edible is kicking in as i write this

Does Ganondorf ever have moments of just silently hating himself for what he's doing to Shady Son in Hero of Shadow?
Of sometimes just wishing he'd died with them?
Of blaming himself for everything? For the happiness they lost?
It also makes me wonder why he was so hateful of the Zonai & Hyrule as a whole.
Like, I get the "grass is always greener" mental pitfall & the envy, but I can't help but wonder if there was more to it.
The best I can figure with Ganondorf in general is that since he's the "special male Gerudo" born to be king, it kind of Others him from the rest of the Gerudo. They respect his position and all, but he's... different. A man in a society of women. Born a ruler just because of it. It separates him from the group, makes him lonely and egotistical. It's his right to rule. He has to be strong. Living in a society of warriors pushes that even further. And if his mere existence rewards him with ruling over one country, why not more? Why not take what he wants when he gets what he wants with the Gerudo? Hyrule has so much to offer. And the people there aren't warriors, they don't fight for what they want or love, they just sit on their hands and do nothing, they practically deserve to be wiped out and ruled over.
Ganondorf is a lonely and angry guy, is basically what I've concluded. At least based on what I can infer. Perhaps he's seen his people suffer and wants better for them. But no matter what, he always just did things for his own gain - never once have his actions benefitted the Gerudo in any of the games. So he's selfish as heck. And if you were to point that out he'd just be like "why shouldn't I be?" He was told his entire life he was special. Probably hardly anyone ever said no to him.
In TotK, he clearly loves a good challenge and fight. He probably is a really smart dude and wants to be stimulated, both intellectually and physically. Nothing gets the adrenaline going like a good fight, nothing pumps him up and proves his power like beating a difficult opponent. He can respect a good warrior.
So his motivation to invade Hyrule wasn't just about resources and "grass is greener on the other side" kind of vibe, it was a logical conclusion to how he was raised. He's king. He wants to rule. He deserves to rule. Hyrulians are weak. He wants Hyrule. He takes Hyrule.
As for regrets... he definitely regrets how his family broke apart. Because they were the one thing that was absolutely special to him beyond anything else. Because they loved him, not just obeyed or respected him. Because they were uniquely his. Nabooru was stubborn and powerful, a challenge in every way, and she loved to fight as much as he did. They respected the heck out of each other until Gan started the war. Hemisi adored him and admired him. Link looked up to him, and oh how that made all the difference because Gan absolutely loves his daughter to death but to have a boy looking to him for example is a whole other level of validation to Ganondorf.
He doesn't regret his actions, though. Simply that his family didn't follow along. He does sometimes regret having to control Link, but only because he knows it physically hurts him. But he won't stop, because he genuinely thinks this is the best way to keep him safe, from Rauru's knight, from the dangers of the world, but most importantly, from himself.

One of the things I'm wondering is how the events of Tears of the Kingdom are going to be affected or changed by Eldritch!Wild , if at all. (Mostly in regards to Ganondorf, and maybe Rauru.) Maybe even Links arm is slightly different due to his Eldritchness?
I had to dig SO deep to find this about Rauru lol. For TotK...I think it would depend on how much training Wild had done with FD. Constructs wouldn't be affected by him, like Guardians. The gloom would probably not interact too well with him though, especially the gloom hands. I think there's another ask about that floating around, but good luck finding it ><
Ganon....lets see, he's more human. Oh, I don't think he'd like e!Wild at all. Parts of him, yes. But other parts, nooooo. It might be more like a Sky situation but he wouldn't feel sick, just hate his guts.

Day 41: Trouble in Kakariko Village
At dawn, I head out again from Dueling Peaks Stable. It's a gorgeous morning.
Tumblr media
As I ride up the hill I see Naydra flying almost out of the sunrise over the hills towards the peaks. Stunning.
Tumblr media
I check the secluded area past the rocks up the hill for old times' sake - there used to be a monster camp there. But now it looks like this is where the Stable Trotters' Beetz is camped.
It's a beautiful outlook here, to be fair.
Tumblr media
He's trying to summon bees. He wants honey to make Mastro some honey crepes to cheer him up. He needs three combs of courser bee honey - apparently there's a chasm near Kakariko Village and bees nearby - so why's he camped here, so far from the village? Oh. It's scary. Fair enough. I give him some of my honey and let him know the Stable Trotters are actually just down the hill.
In the pass between the hills, Addison again! How many signs can one guy build?
There are ruins right by the village entrance. Letty and Totsuna are investigating. They point to one down the hill, which apparently the Princess has forbidden entrance to. I sense shenanigans. Letty and Totsuna want to be part of the Zonai Survey Team, and they think pinching parts of the ruins for personal study is the way to go about it.
Garshon is riding out of town, and says we met at New Serenne Stable. He got sick of his brother's arguing about swords and beasts - ah, I remember! - and went off to explore caves and ruins himself. He's got a good memory for faces - it must be nearly a month since I saw him.
At the top of the village, Lasli is worried about her grandmother - and Claree, who runs the clothing shop. I remember her - I hope I have enough gems to trade for some sneaking clothes. Lasli's grandmother got too close to the Gloom and is sick.
Tumblr media
The only thing she can eat is porridge made of hylian rice, fresh milk and wild greens - and Lasli needs a porridge that will cure gloom sickness. I have the sundelion I think will do the trick, but no rice and milk.
I'll come back. There used to be a grocery shop at the bottom of the hill.
Ruins have fallen on the house opposite the clothing shop. Wasn't that Dorian and his daughters' house? I hope they're alright!
Tumblr media
Part of the ruin is being used as some kind of workshop - Wortsworth is here, from Lookout Landing. He's translated the tablet that landed at Lookout Landing - it reads:
"Once held in honor as 'hochmayde' (handmaid?) to King Rauru and Queen Sonia, thereafter to his sister and to Princess Zelda. Here on this great stone and twelve more 'withalle make y endite min time' with the royal family. So might 'heore' remembrance preserve for the sake of him on whom our hope rests."
The author says she wrote 13 stone tablets in total about the Royal family. I wonder if more of them will mention Zelda? Wortsworth reckons she's a chambermaid of some kind.
Wortsworth thinks Zelda's mention proves the name is as old as Hyrule - which is, I suppose, technically true. He'll reward me for pictures of any other stone tablets - though the translation will be reward enough for me.
I visit the clothing shop. 5000 rupees for the stealth chest guard?? I may not have enough gems after all. How can they be so much more expensive?
Claree is Lasli's older sister - ah. They want the money for their grandmother's treatment. That's fair enough, but I can't afford it. I might be able to gather the ingredients they need, though.
I just need to register the shrine here, and then I can nip back to Lookout Landing for the supplies I need.
I visit the Goddess statue for stamina first. Koko is selling ring garlands in the square - very sweet. She's grown since I saw her last.
Then I head to the Chief's House. Impa's away looking for geoglyphs, so who's running things here?
Dorian's guarding the Chief's House. He says Paya is in charge? Well, it's Lady Paya now. But the last time I saw her she could barely speak to anyone.
Dorian has been assisting her, for which I'm glad. But he says all she thinks about is the ring ruins. He asks me to speak to her, to try to remind her of her other duties.
I squelch through the rain to meet her - she's talking with Tauro. She doesn't seem confident in being chief… I suppose she had no choice when Impa left.
I have to tell her that the Princess is still missing. But Paya says she's seen her? Immediately after the Upheaval? She confirms what Letty and Totsuna said - the Princess has forbidden anyone to investigate one of the five ring ruins.
I can't imagine Zelda forbidding research. And it just doesn't make sense. Surely this is the imposter's work? She left suddenly once she'd delivered the instruction, which is a pattern I'm beginning to recognise from the imposter.
Paya and Tauro agree it doesn't make sense, but they say that the Princess must have had a reason, so we still can't go up there - annoying.
Calip of the Survey Team is guarding the ruins and won't let me even walk beneath them - does that mean people can't even visit the graves that lie beyond? That's unreasonable.
Tumblr media
I think of Koko and her sister, and their mother's grave. Paya has to see sense.
In the Chief's House, I find a journal of anonymous worries. Someone only finds comfort sleeping on the stone slabs in the ring ruins - weird. Lasli wants to know how to cure Gloom sickness - I know why. Monsters have appeared at one of the ring ruins out west - Drenja from the Zonai Survey Team needs help. Trissa can't find where the cuccos are laying, so the stores and the village are running low. Cottla - sorry, Not Cottla - has found a secret base for her and her mother - presumably because she's not allowed to visit her mother's grave.
A litany of concerns and worries. All ignored. How could Impa abandon these people? How could Paya not see that they need her?
I find Purah's diary under Paya's bed - what's it doing there? She says she's hiding volumes of her diary around - she must have begun this before the Upheaval, I can't imagine she'd bother now. She writes that there's one in her own room. One at the Hateno Lab. One here. Where's the fourth?
Paya's Diary of a Chief is on the desk, so I read that too. She writes of the swiftness with which Impa made her chief and left her to it. Dorian was concerned but said nothing to stop it. She documents the Upheaval, the fall of the ring ruins and the opening of the chasm. It was after that that Impa left. She had been reading a book with eleven symbols - are there that many geoglyphs? Or is this something else?
She says the Zelda who visited was "like a doll of herself… the same outside, but no spirit within." The description chills me. Others have said that they've seen a cold, emotionless Zelda. Surely this is the imposter. The Princess I know has always been warmth personified.
Paya believes the village has been reinvigorated by the ring ruins, research and tourism. How can I make her see the truth? Her people need her.
I head back outside. Letty and Totsuna are sheltering from the rain in the inn. The guy behind the counter, Dai, briefly tries to charge me 10,000 rupees for a bed - but quickly reveals he doesn’t work here. The owner left to make up the Survey Team’s beds and hasn't come back. There’s four camp tents around the village, so he could be anywhere. If I see a sleepy guy, Dai asks me to send him back to the inn to take over. Fine.
Outside, I meet Bugut. He’s come to see the ring ruins, and specifically the stone slabs with writing on, but he’s deathly afraid of heights. I’ll get him some photos.
The weather clears at dusk. Trissa, in the produce store, says the old guys who stock it are busy driving off monsters - is this related to the call for help from the Zonai Survey Team I read in the Chief’s House? Probably - she says to head west to find them.
I climb the hill to start heading to the shrine, finally, and find the Southern Ring Ruin Research Camp - complete with journal by Cori. They’ve found sundelions here and are cultivating them in the plum orchard. They’ve also found a Device Dispenser, which baffles them but is very useful for me.
Tumblr media
I take the scaffolding up the hill for a better gliding point to the shrine - and of course, by that point I might as well go and check out the ring ruins. Tauro’s left some translation notes from this ring:
“There were (those) known as sages...who protect(ed the kingdom) of Hyrule from the Demon King together (with) King (Rauru).”
Nothing new there. But I do wonder if the others contain any new information.
I glide down to the shrine, and spend the rest of the night solving it.

I was wondering, what was the thought process behind making Rauru submissive in the bedroom? I know a part of it will always be personal preferences, but I think the idea itself is fascinating since Rauru also behaves in an entitled manner otherwise, and it is probably a big contributor in why his relationship with Ganondorf is so caustic aka allowing Ganondorf to think that he has some real form of power over Rauru when Rauru is half living out his own fantasies and half kind of putting off whatever it is he is cultivating in this relationship until it comes to a head and he can no longer allow it to continue.
OH BOY psychology of kink, you’ve activated my trap card
I’m not very diligent about saying this, and it’s only ever a fig leaf anyway, but: minors, scroll on by this one
So yes, absolutely an element of personal preference, to begin with; especially in m/f ships I’m more comfortable writing dominant female/submissive male. So, that was my first-blush read of Sonia/Rauru just because that’s the way I like things to be, even before consciously incorporating things like “she baps him on the hip when he’s increasing, rather than lessening, Zelda’s anxiety” and “when he plays hooky she drags him back to the throne.” And well, obviously one cannot and should not assume that bigger always equals more dominant, but A Show of Fealty was actually the last tear I saw and I’d already been pawing at the window to ship Ganondorf/Rauru like a cat trying to reach a wild bird before that, and picturing Ganondorf in the more dominant role. That Rauru might also have a dominant streak was a revelation from which I do not particularly intend to recover.
But I do still read Rauru as predominantly submissive, and I think he identifies more with his submissive side, and there are a few reasons for that.
a) The image he cultivates of his own relationship to power is that of giving it away. To be a king means to sacrifice himself—broaden that—power ought to be used in service to others. His understanding of himself is as someone who serves, not someone who takes, and certainly not someone who forces. Now we see that this isn’t one hundred percent true of him, don’t we, but I think he absolutely attaches a value judgment here that to take or force is a negative, cruel thing. Which is true, outside a consensual sexual dynamic! So even if that flavor of desire ever arose in him in response to someone he respected—and honestly that’s a big “if” in my mind, I think he would never think of e.g. Sonia this way, let alone act on such a feeling—he would repress the feeling. It’s with Ganondorf, who is evil in his mind, who he feels he must control as a matter of kingdom security, that he allows these more dominant desires to run rampant. (I am conflating “dominant” and “noncon” here only and specifically because that is the shape of his desire for Ganondorf; the two are emphatically not synonymous by default.)
b) A submissive does not actually lack power. Their desires, their boundaries still matter and in some cases may even set the pace of a scene. But being in the submissive role may allow them to have desires met that they cannot consciously claim, or it may allow them to relax and do what they’re told to simply because they’re told to, regardless of their own feelings. I feel like this is a contradiction Rauru would inhabit quite comfortably: partially dissociating from his more complex relationship with power by leaving it in someone else’s hands.
c) There is a feeling I read in him that I have a hard time finding a word for. It’s like sitting on the edge of your seat. It’s like feeling observed. It’s social anxiety of a very specific flavor, one that absolutely comes with the desire to be told that he is good, the desire to be good and be of use to his partner. An anxiety borne of having very little interpersonal interaction for much of his youth, and one that can be eased by situations in which there are very clear terms set out for how he should behave in order to win approval. If he can make a partner feel good sexually by serving them, he can be sure of how that partner feels about him in that moment.
All of this is more why he would be submissive with someone he trusts, though, such as Sonia. Why does he still slip into submission with Ganondorf, as I write him? Well, first of all, because based on a-b-c above, I perceive him as someone whose mind will tip that way when faced with someone dominant. Submission is a conditioned response in him, and although he has what feels to him like an incongruous flare of dominant desire when dealing with Ganondorf, there are also chemical pathways in his body that are used to making the argument hey, if you let yourself be pushed around here it’s gonna feel really good. And I think also that he has a crater of loneliness in him, and any chance to be at the center of someone’s attention bypasses any rational thought and goes straight to what he needs most.
Moreover, he’s doing a LOT of mental sleight-of-hand when it comes to how he thinks of the power dynamics between himself and Ganondorf. Rauru finds his ability to be dominant over Ganondorf in the facetious submission of the Gerudo to Hyrule and even more so in Ganondorf’s need to maintain that fiction. But, when he, Rauru, submits to Ganondorf sexually, that has no bearing on anything outside the bedroom. Or so he tells himself. So like you said, Ganondorf is sort of having his own desire for dominance over Rauru met—at least he is given the opportunity to enact it—but at the same time Rauru is slipping out of that net, and that’s absolutely part of why the two get stuck on each other. This time, this time they’ll make the other see it their way. This time they will answer the question of who has and deserves power here for good. (They never will, not like this.)
In summary—submission is a much more roundabout way of approaching and owning power than dominance is, and I think that’s extremely fitting for Rauru and his internal conflict.

Fighting Fate: Chapter 4
Ch.3
Zelda stood almost completely frozen, her hair swayed in the wind as the words he said echoed in her mind. What was she to say, she couldn’t tell him she was from the future, at least not yet.
She sighed taking a breath as she kneeled down and bowed her head before him.
“Forgive me...but I cannot say. At least for now. I swore to keep such information private as the truth would be too much to bare...I would hope that you understand.”
“is it truly so imperative to keep your origin a secret?”
“Yes...it is.”
She brought her hands to the ground bowing her head, she knew if Urbosa saw her like this she would be very agitated but It would have to be done.
Ganondorf simply chuckled as he lift her chin up gently with one finger making him look up at her.
“While the sight of you bowing before me gives me some amusement...I will honor your request. For now.”
-
Upon their return to the city, Zelda was immediately greeted by many vai who showed concern with them being gone so long explaining and how they were preparing to send out their fastest riders to find them. Eventually all of the citizens had gathered. Zelda looked up at Ganondorf and walked up the stairs of the palace looking out to all of them as she gestured for him to join her. Ganondorf stood beside her shouting loud for all to hear.
“My loyal and proud people, Zelda and her company are herby welcomed to our home. In a few days the leaders from each realm will send word, if all goes well. We will be celebrating a marriage between Hyrulian and Gerudo.”
Silence swept through with a few murmurs before all the people cheered on in their native language as the hyrulian that accompanied Zelda were shocked but still clapped in celebration. Ganondorf walked away from the crowd up to his palace as Zelda followed closely behind, but before retreating she did smile at seeing the many vai pulling out fruit and drink to celebrate and even instruments that they would play long into the day and night.
Walking into the throne room she saw Ganondorf had stopped in the middle of the room and looking in front of him Zelda was shocked to see a familiar face.
“Naboris?”
Sitting on the golden throne wearing the helm of the divine beast under the same name was Naboris, her face covered by the zonai mask given to her as her long red hair flowed past her waist. In her hand was a letter.
‘Vasaaq dear Zelda, it is quite I sight to see you. With the news I received from your letter...well I had to ensure no trouble was caused. From both of you.”
“Though I also bring word about the others.”
“Are they alright?’
“Oh of course. They simply wished for me to deliver a message.” she said holding out the letter to Ganondorf who took it and looked over it rather quickly before he passed it to Zelda.
‘Why are you in my throne Naboris?” Ganondorf said crossing his arms as Naboris simply smirked under her mask.
“I was tired from the travel and wished the comforts of home. But I promise this is no ill will toward you dear Vohve.”  she said standing up from the throne.
Zelda looked over the letter. It shorts terms it simply was a congratulative letter informing both of them that each leader from each realm requested safe travel into his kingdom as to discuss the potential treaties or at least some agreements.
“The others simply wished to come here on your terms Vohve, nothing else.” Naboris said walking over to the side of the room pouring a vase of cool melon juice into a few goblets and passed the drink along to him, taking a small sip herself.
Zelda listened close to the word Vohve, it was one she hadn’t heard before and wondered what it meant.
“They may enter my city Naboris, but I will keep a watchful eye on each...I will not fall for any tricks even from you.” Ganondorf said before drinking the juice completely in one gulp.
“Ha, such a worrisome look on your face. You have no need to worry. After all even King Rauru and Queen Sonia have sent their goodwill in that letter.”
“Will they be joining the meeting as well?” Zelda asked placing the letter down on the nearby table.
“They have decided to defer to you, for their trust is with you to speak for their people.”
Zelda was a bit shocked but she understood the risk of both of them coming here. At least with her speaking for them...less conflict was guarantee. She took the goblet from Naboris and savored the flavor and welcoming the refreshment.
“They will be here in three days time. Until I recommend you relax for the few days and come up with arrangements between both of you. After all it has been some time since our lands were blessed with a Queen. Naboris said sipping on her own goblet before bowing her head to Ganondorf before walking over to Zelda and whispering in her ear.
“Do something for me, relax and enjoy yourself. My Vohve is intimidating there is no mistake about that. But I promise...he would not harm you.”
She said walking away from the two of them down the stairs to join her fellow vai in the celebration. Ganondorf looked over at Zelda and noticed she was covered almost head to toe in sand and her pure white dress was stained with it as well. Her skin was slightly more tan but not too significantly different. He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder and spoke.
“I hope she did not say anything to disturb you.”
“No Ganondorf, she was simply expressing her goodwill to me. Nothing to worry about.”
“Alright. But I would recommend you retire to the private chambers and bath. The sun may not have burned you but the sands that cling to you no doubt will make you uncomfortable. After all...sleeping outside like that could not have been very comfortable.”
Zelda said nothing as she remembered waking up on the rug gripping onto his arm. In truth while she would not admit it to him, she had never slept so calmly before in this time period.
“It could have been worse, but I do have to agree. A bath would be quite agreeable but also for you.”
Ganondorf smirked as she pointed to his skin where just like her, he was covered in grains of sand. He gestured for him to follow him down the stairs to a hidden bathing area between the plaza and the training ground. Toward the right was a door locked on their side. Most likely the baths for the other vai. This one being his private baths. It was cooler than the rooms above and the water in front of them gave off steam with a different smell than what she was familiar to. Most likely from aromatic oils and spices she saw nearby.
She turned to see there was no separate baths for men and women. At which point she turned around right as Ganondorf undid his hair tie allowing his hair to drape effortlessly over his shoulders as he looked down at her she quickly looked away to give him privacy.
“Surely I should wait for you to bath first...then I may later.” she said when she suddenly saw him holding a small towel out to her.
“The water is slightly murky on its own and the other vai use these.”
‘What about you?” She asked taking the towel.
“I usually do not use them as these are my private baths...but i suppose for now I can cover myself with one as well.”
He started to disrobe, which made Zelda blush so much she could have sworn her ears were red. She turned around until she heard his heavy steps enter the water. She looked over her shoulder to see his hair was now soaked and his arms were rid of cloth but still adorned with gold. His skin has a thin layer of water and fragrant oil. She started to become a little nervous at the idea that not only could he peek at her but potentially see her bare.
“If seeing your body is a concern, I can swear I will not look.” He said as she saw him washing his arms keeping his back to her.
She breathed in and out for a few moments before taking the dress off and laying it down along with the royal head piece before gently wrapping the towel around her body. Taking a small step into the water she felt the warmth of the water almost immediately caused her to relax. The deeper she got into the water the more the feeling overtook her. She looked over at the small vials of soap and oils and gently lathered up enough for her skin and hair.
The scents of volfruit and hydomelon enticed her as she rinsed herself off. She could hear Ganondorf sigh to himself as he was sitting down on the underwater bench. His head leaning back as his felt all his muscles slowly relax more and more with each minute.
Zelda smiled for a moment as she rinsed off the last bits of soap studs. After a few moments she stepped below the small waterfall nearby rising her body of completely. A knock at the door that she saw earlier made her jump  at the sound before hearing it open and close quickly seeing two pairs of clothes on a nearby table. Quickly and carefully she stepped up the stairs to see the clothes were Ganondorf’s robes which were simply the same, as for the pair next to them. It was a female vai clothes set, the color was white with small geometric shapes on the sides along with a veil that seemed to reach further than the normal ones she was associated with. Another pair of clothes were vai clothes to sleep in.
She was about to gather the clothes up to change until she felt and heard Ganondorf standing behind her. His skin was slightly still wet as his hair was still hanging over his shoulders covering most of his chest as he ran a hand through his hair.
“Might I ask you to pass my clothes to me?”
Zelda looked up at him handing his clothes to him, careful not to drop them. After which she  took her own and started to dress herself. It was mostly easy to put together until she tried to tie the top of the outfit making her struggle with tieing it securely.
She suddenly felt herself freeze when she felt his hand catch her own causing her to look up at him a little puzzled. He watched her move her hand away as he brought his hand to the ties and secured it as he moved her hair as to not tangle it.
‘Thank you. I must admit Gerudo clothes seem easier to wear than Hylians ones but tieing ropes lies seems a bite difficult to handle.”
“Better you wear that than what you normally wear. In truth I'm surprised you could bare the heat in such clothes.”
She merely shrugged with a smile on her face.
‘Oh I meant to ask...and I suppose now is as good as anytime. But Naboris called you ‘Vohve.’ what exactly does that mean? I’m not familiar with it.”
“Its a rare word only used every 100 years. It means brother.”
Zelda's eyes went wide for a moment as she thought on what he said for a moment.
“As in brother in arms?”
“No, Naboris and I are biologically siblings. No different than Rauru and Mineru. Our births were quite different. I was reborn first by her mother and then she came after. I never met her father but we do have the same mother...that was more than enough for me.”

Present Day
Link awoke in the lavish bed the was gifted to him by Sidon who just so happened to be laying asleep beside him. He smiled as the handsome Zora prince breathed deeply. Link was overlooking ancient books reading over page by page searching for any hint of what could have happened to Zelda. At first he thought to travel into the depths but that didn’t go as planned when he came face to face with an armored Lynel.
It had been weeks now and still there were no more sighting of Zelda at least none that were actually her.
But not all was lost, he had found the stones for not only Sidon but Tulin as well. However with every good piece of news there was also bad. The stones were inactive and what their purpose was used for all those centuries ago was not clear. But he sighed with some relief knowing that finding these stones was helping the lands recover from the awoken Demon King.
Some movement made Link look down at Sidon who was smiling with his ever beaming sharp smile  as he spoke.
“Any luck finding any clues as to the princesses whereabouts?”
Link signed with his hands.
‘No, still nothing. It would probably be best for me to go back out and search for her more thoroughly.’
Sidon sat up immediately with a worried look.
“My dearest friend, you are still injured. No hero no matter who strong can not endure everything. I would ask you rest until your injuries have healed completely.”
Link smiled up at the tall Zoran and simply nodded with a smile making Sidon grab both of link’s hands.
“Thank you my friend. After all Riju will understand. Hopefully the books she found will shed some light on this whole situation...but until then you need to rest.” He said kissing Link’s forehead.

Rauru smiled as he quietly sketched away on the parchment, dragging the charcoal carefully to match the scenery before him.
He was grateful Y/N suggested the summer house for a good sketching spot. The area around it was quite beautiful.
"Could I paint on you?" She suddenly asked, stilling her brush on her canvas.
"Sure. I don't mind if you paint me," He answered, focusing on his own details.
Her giggle made his ear twitch as he looked up, seeing her smile up at him. "No. Not paint you. Paint on you, Rauru."
He blinked and smiled. "Alright then. Should I remove anything?"
"Shirt. I'll paint on your back."
He nodded and stripped off the garments as she arranged her supplies on the table before standing behind him and getting to work. They both laughed when he jerked away.
"Sorry. It tickles."
"Not judging. Let me know if the paints are too cold though?"
He only hummed, clenching his jaw when the cold liquid began to brush against his back. He slowly began to relax, enjoying the brush strokes as his eyes closed.
Y/N watched him relax, smiling as his charcoal slowly stopped scratching against the parchment.
"Enjoying it?"
"Greatly," he chuckled. "It feels strangely good." She beamed and nodded, keeping up her work.
After a long beat of silence, Rauru took a slow breath. "Only you."
"Hm?" She hummed, blinking.
"I only let you get away with this sort of thing you know," He said. "You're the only one I could trust with this."
"Not the priestess?" Y/N asked, making him blink. "Everyone thinks you and Sonia are going to be a thing."
"Oh, well, ironically, i was asking her for advice on how to ask the woman I find myself attracted to to accept my advances."
Y/N gulped thickly, looking at the back of his head before refocusing on the painting. "What'd she suggest?"
"Taking her to the summer home and wooing her."
Y/N stilled as her face went bright red. She kept a still face though when he turned to look at her. "Is it, working?" He asked hesitantly.
"It...is," She mumbled. "Rauru...are you sure?"
"I haven't been more sure of anything in my life."
She smiled and took her brush, playfully painting a mustache on his face. "I accept, Mustachiod King."
He blinked and got up, looking at his reflection in the water before slowly turning to her with a devious grin.
She quickly bolted, fleeing the king uselessly as the guards looked on with a smile under their helmets. They watched their king scoop up the woman and drag her to the water, tossing her as laughter echoed from their chests.
Y/N would be a good balance for his more serious nature, they knew.

At The Edge of Calamity
Tumblr media
This is one of my contributions to @zelinkcommunity's Zelink Week 2023! Day Five: By A Thread
Look below the break to read! Make sure to read everyone else's masterpieces afterward! Today is an angsty day by nature, be prepared!!!
{ For this week, I will be posting a little peek at art/writing for memories in Call of the Forgotten, a TotK rewrite I am working on (there will obviously be direct and indirect spoilers for TotK). These memories will be posted out of order and are subject to change. They follow the Ancient Hero and Princess during the time of the First Great Calamity. }
Memory ?? – At The Edge of Calamity
( Words – 946 )
Two souls stand at the railing of a skybridge. The new castle's towers stretch to the clouds, comparable to the likes of the spires constructed by the Sheikah. From this height, they can see the field of Hyrule's future capital busy with preparation. The taller of the pair, Princess Zelda, oversees the back and forth motion of guardians. A familiar older woman, Impa, directs a wave of them far below with the motion of a slate in her hands. "By the day, the whole of Hyrule becomes closer to becoming a formidable force. Father's sister… Mineru… She left behind everything we needed to understand the rune and guardian technology we already had. Out of everyone, the Sheikah Tribe is prepared most of all…" Her eyes glimmer with fascination, but the longer she goes on… the further her wonder fades into a forlorn grief. "Yet I… I worry it may not be enough."
The second Hylian, a young man with a sacred sword upon his back, stands a small distance behind her. Her sudden shift nearly startles him, his curious gaze becoming a concerned sort. The boy's hand acts on its own and is drawn toward her, but he is quick to halt it and stay back. There's an uncertainty pulling him away.
"The Sages and my father did all they could to bring the Imprisoning War. They only succeeded with the King's sacrifice… yet even now, his seal is on the verge of cracking. Who is to say what we have will destroy what escapes of the demon?" The princess's calm facade is suddenly torn apart. How often has she wondered such a thing? She feels the light touch of Link's hand over hers on the barrier. It is only then that she realizes just how tightly she gripped the stone, as now her fingers ease into a gentle hold. Her breath ceases for a little too long from his contact, before she finally releases a deep exhale. "...Every night, I hear them. They try to warn me, but I cannot read their lips. No voice travels… yet I know what they tell me. It falls upon what remains in the aftermath of war… to prevent the true destruction of this land; one as young as ourselves compared to the other soldiers. It's…" Zelda's voice quakes in remorse, yet burns with determination. "It's close, Link. The incarnation of hatred surely returns… and it could be any day." Tears collect and roll down her face, but they seem somehow… oversized, like the tears of a dragon coming from human eyes. "Oh, Link… As much as I want to believe that Hyrule can fend for itself… I know how the legends go. The fate of Hyrule will rest with us, when all is said and done. I… deep down, I… I know that is why King Rauru was forced to make the decision he did. So we would be there to finish the Imprisoning War, even after its completion." Fate hangs in the balance. All they can do now is accept it, wait for it to arrive… and hope they hold the power over it.
Her words– this setting in reality– bring Link into a daze. Regardless, he doesn't dare break their touch. No hope truly is what it takes to ease that worry, is it? Zelda has told him stories passed down to her of events they lived through, but were too young to remember. They held Sacred Stones– gifts from the heavens– in their very palms… yet by mortal flaw, they were either consumed by it or were driven to their brink. Yes, they may have guardians… the promise of being "chosen"... and relics of a time that has been forgotten… but that still leaves one major factor: themselves. Will their own flaws push them into the grasp of their enemy? These foreboding glimpses into their potential futures whirl in the young man's head, but he is hardly the definition of vocal. He isn't sure how to spin any of these things into comforting words. He knows Zelda is right.
As close as the two of them are, however… it is only a matter of time until he realizes exactly what he means to say. Without even the slightest hesitation, he allows himself to say it aloud.
"...He's making a mistake in resisting the grave he dug for himself. Whether he comes back as a demon, a dragon, a boar… or whatever! The Demon King will regret taking any form in the era of those he reduced to ruin. Impa has shown me everything you've done to take care of them, even when you were still a child. Despite… everything, Hyrule is getting bigger. I've… never seen a place so… full of life before. I promise you, I do not take up the sword because it was carved that I would. It… hasn't been that way for a long time. No matter what happens in the end, my drive is why I fight. Whether or not we have error, I will fight this battle with you." He places his other hand on Zelda's shoulder, his gaze fierce with assurance. Chosen or not, they will protect them all. Why do anything else? Everything they've ever lived has led to this.
"Link, you…– Time and time again, you have seen how this battle you were… dragged into… goes deeper. You witness Hyrule at what could be the edge of its life! Yet you… stay. You stayed long enough to draw the Sacred Blade, and you stayed long enough to help me awaken the Triforce through blessings of light. …Why?"
"...Do we not share the same wish, princess?"
Thank you for reading! Check out the first concept doodles of them here! Obviously, this is all very incomplete; but most is planned out thoroughly! If you have questions, just ask!

yknow how i mentioned I'm thinking of writing a spite fic that's just TOTK but the narrative is allowed to acknowledge that imperialism is really fucking evil? Yeah so I might be outlining that fic and let me tell you i have Plans. I've now got a whole backstory about the Gerudo sage, namely what kind of person she must have been to be in the position to meet Rauru and Sonia (aka accompanying Ganondorf to Hyrule Castle, meaning someone he put a lot of trust in), while also being the kind of person that Rauru and Sonia would consider a viable option for a Sage (aka someone clearly opposed to Ganondorf). That's an interesting contradiction, and made me wonder why this woman would be part of Ganondorf's inner circle, but also look like his political opponent on a surface reading, and I wound up following that to the logical conclusion and now her story is making me really, really sad.
Also I found the helmets worn by the four non-royal sages to be really ominous and creepy, along with their complete lack of names, personalities, and that one scene with the four of them spontaneously swearing eternal loyalty to Rauru with zero prompting yet still speaking in perfect unison. That has Implications. I have done things with those implications.
Oh and I thought it was kinda bullshit that Sheikah are completely brushed off in this game, so I dug into wtf is going on there. I mean, it's weird that to fight a war against the Gerudo, Rauru decided that it would be a good idea to try recruit a Gerudo woman to fight against her own rightful king, instead of like... recruiting a Sheikah, y'know the people that can be trusted to be diehard supporters of the Hylian throne. That's a really weird absence, and I've decided that the fourth sage was originally a Sheikah, and they wound up turning on Rauru (over legitimate greivances!), and the resulting backlash caused the split that formed the Yiga Clan, AND caused them to be allied with Ganondorf.

In general the vibe I got from TotK when it came to Ganondorf’s shenanigans in the present was more like intrigue? In the case of the regional phenomena it seems like people are fascinated with what’s happening and very pressed in figuring out where Zelda is. Everyone is pressed about where Zelda is. They are also interested in touching gloom even though it makes them sick like some child who can’t stay away from the hot stove and figuring out what the hell the Depths and the Zonai are all about. The Upheaval is just another day in Hyrule. No one really gives a shit about Ganondorf, including Link. Ganondorf also seems to only be interested in being a nuissance to Link in turn because heh heh he’s *bothering* that hero that Rauru put his faith in until he realizes that the Secret Stones don’t magically inform their users about how bad he is so he just decides to be like “well look, let me show you how scary I am, ooooooo” and the sages respond with “oh okay so you’re not ready yet to be that scary we got time” and then everyone goes back to running around like headless chickens wondering where Zelda is and not giving a shit about Ganondorf until Link decides to finally give a shit.

Note
Because so many of my favourite stories of yours revolve around this concept: Zelda finding out what freedom is with link helping her figure it out.
Okay, not sure if you'll like this one because I used Zelda II's Link and Zelda and no one but me likes that game LOL! I tried to be different with the Zelink since, like you said, I have a couple of fics already like it!
Also on Ao3!
"Link, tell me some more. What happened in these years since my slumber?"
Link sat on the steps of North Palace with the Princess Zelda by his side. She looked around with her eyes filled with wonder, a new light she'd never seen before. She'd never seen this Hyrule. Her Hyrule had passed by some hundred years ago, and she was set in a constant state of wonder and amazement.
"The new Princess Zelda was in need of my assistance as Ganon tried to steal the Triforce. We stopped him, and then Impa passed along that you'd been asleep since your curse. And I just... I don't know. I had to help you. If I could."
"You did. Goodness, you did. To see the world again, to be able to breathe the air and taste the sea. I can smell it from here. And there's another thing that is far more difficult to see, but it is felt just as clearly: there is no fear here. You've taken their fear and cast it away. As you've done for me."
Link shrugged. "I didn't. I just... I did what was expected of me."
"You did far more."
"How does it feel," he asked instead, "To be a princess, but not the Princess? Do you feel relieved?"
"Confused. I don't know how to be anything else. But it seems P... Princess Zelda... the other one... has the Kingdom well in hand. How could I possibly seek to impose?"
"You don't have to. You can just... be free."
"Free," Zelda scoffed, shaking her head. "What even is that."
Link stood up off the steps of North Palace and held out his hand. He wriggled his fingers. "Come on, Princess. Or... can I call you Zelda?"
"You saved me from eternal slumber. You can call me whatever you'd like."
"'Beautiful?'" he asked, the word slipping out as he stared at her red hair. She was gorgeous. A stark contrast from the equally beautiful brunette princess, but a unique beauty that had him rapt in her.
Her brows shot up as she brushed her hair off her shoulder and took his hand. "Oh, you're one of those charmers, are you?"
"Only if you thought that was charming."
"I did," she smiled, blushing. "It's been centuries since someone has complimented me. I suppose I'm more open to the corniness of such lines after all this time."
"Did you used to hear them before your sleep?" He led her down a path, taking off into the expanse of Hyrule field. He could feel her hesitating, and tapped his sword. "I can keep you safe, but we'll keep to the paths. Don't worry."
"I'm used to worrying about everything," she muttered, following beside him with her hand tight in his. "And no, no silly Hero would dare flirt with me before. I was as isolated then as I was at North Palace. Worse, because my brother was so controlling. Anyone who looked at me... the way you do... well, they'd be... taken care of."
"Like I do?" Link asked with mock offense, smiling as the former Princess' laugh rang out in his ears.
"Yes! You have these puppy dog brown eyes." She pulled him to a stop so she could touch his cheek. Soft, light, she took a moment to truly feel him. "Like no one I've met before."
He blushed viciously and pointed back to the road. "We're almost at Rauru."
"Rauru? Who's that?"
"Not 'who'. It's a town."
"This used to be around where Leoch was. Is that still here?"
"I don't know who that is, so no."
She smiled. "It's a 'who', it's a town."
"Forgive me, Princess."
Her smile grew. "I'm not a Princess, am I?"
"No," he said, grinning. "No, you're not. You're free. So come on, Zelda. Let's go see what's new. Let's go see how you get to live."
