listen i am geralt of rivia hater number one but one thing i actually CANNOT stand is when the fandom mischaracterizes him. took one look at this man who speaks very straight-forwardly and matter-of-fact and is a little recalcitrant with his words sometimes and went "haha he communicates in grunts! man who only says 'hm'!" and then won't even write him to speak in full fucking sentences. hello???? hello???????? yes the netflix show was a bad influence on everybody because they were trying too hard to depict geralt as a stoic manly badass but we CANNOT let that distract us from the REAL thing to make fun of geralt for. which are his Constant Unprovoked Monologues

I'm late to the party like you wouldn't believe, but I've got to say something, because I'm so upset!

Okay, unpopular opinion, I actually loved Jaskier's Season 3 hair!

Was it always perfectly styled? No. There were a few scenes where I personally thought it could have used a bit more volume, or a bit more volume in some places while a bit less in others; but, most or the time, I was more than fine with it, and thought it suited Jaskier well!

At times, I literally adored it!

Ex:

To me, those are moments where I thought Jaskier looked his best in the series! Loved the hair!

Then again, personally, I tend to prefer Joey's looks with his forehead cleared and his hair longer.

Like, this is I think one of the most gorgeous non-feral hairstyles I've ever seen on him:

This is an absolutely gorgeous man, and I personally prefer his hair styled like this than short.

(Note: I'm not saying he's not beautiful with short hair, too, simply stating personal preferences. Certain aesthetic choices are based on comfort, too, and he can 100% afford to sacrifice the "long haired look" for something that makes him feel more comfortable. He can rock plenty of different looks!)

Then, of course, there's the feral look that is just in its own category...

So why am I upset?

I've just found out that he didn't wear a wig in Season 3!

That Jaskier's Season 3 hair were simply Joey's own hair that he had decided to grow out.

And look, I'm fine with everyone having preferences!

That's not my issue. Having your own tastes and not being a fan of Joey's Season 3 hairstyle is not the issue at all!

There were posts simply mentioning that they hated that it looked so flat, when we could have been graced with something a bit more like this:

And I do get preferences when it comes to styling.

It's just that I recall how - since people assumed it was "an ugly wig" that had been forced on his head by the wig department, rather than what they considered "a bad hairstyle" - the comments on "Jaskier's hair" were at times downright nasty!

And I just gotta get out of my system that those of you that have been literally making fun of his "sudden 4-inches receeding hairline" (first I'll have you know I find receeding hairline pretty hot!), when it's kinda remained the same for 3 seasons (it's called BANGS people. Joey tends to wear those with his shorter haircuts! Look it up!), for example, really suck!

His hairline has always gone pretty far up on each side, even in some of his earlier work... Ex: Gopher in "Mount Pleasant" (2016):

Like he's got very thick hair that form a "V" shape at the top (my mom had that, but I didn't inherit it... And we've got tons of hair... Like, a lot! * ) and a pretty large forehead.

(That's me at 18, and then at 28 - before I brought them back to a lower back length - but my mom is the same in terms of thickness, she just has that V in the front I lack, and it never receeded any further in her life.)

And there would be no shame in having thin hair, or any form of baldness anyway!

So yeah! I remember sort of heavily ignoring all those "ugly wig" comments because I, too, had assumed it was a wig (turns out Joey's hair seem to be a bit like mine, and grow pretty fast), and at some point you choose your battles.

Did I think a bunch of you were immature assholes for needing to hate on that "ugly wig" so much? Yes. But you find those in any fandom!

Personally, I thought "the wig" was awesome!

But now, I kinda regret not having taken the time to be more supportive of Jaskier's Season's 3 hair given I actually like it...

Because that's just a (very sweet) human being's hair, that was styled in a way that a number of people didn't like.

Again, zero problem for those that thought it was badly styled, and that the look didn't suit Jaskier!

Critiquing what you find a "bad hairstyle" is no cause for shame!

But, for those of you that took it to the next level with all those "ugly wig" comments, you fucking suck, I sure hope you've since found out that you'd been openly ridiculing a fellow human being's real hair, that it makes you feel like complete pieces of shit, and that feeling like complete pieces of shit is going to help you learn from your mistakes, before you start attacking other people's personal physical features in the future!

"Well, I didn't know!"

Here's today's lesson:

When you don't know, please kindly shut up and assume the hair you see is the real thing!

Or critique the wig like you would a real hairstyle, asking yourself "Hmm... Is describing someone's real hair the way I do going to make me sound like a bully?"

Like I said, I'm aware I'm pretty late to the party, but the the kid in me that got heavily bullied in school over her own hair really needed to get it out of her system!

geralt is forced to work within the confines of the fairy tale world he lives in, and so when he gets cast in the role of villain, he has no choice but to work with it. to be that, to continue the game, to keep the baby hidden away as a prize to be won. but he was watching jaskier as someone brave and true, wise and clever, someone to be his consort. he'd wanted to WOO jaskier. and each of their interactions balances between antagonistic, bantering, and startlingly genuine. they have a connection! they get on well, when they get to slip for a moment and be geralt and jaskier instead of the goblin king and the hero!

then jaskier wins, he actually WINS and the baby is back in his arms, little ciri or essi or maybe even an OC, little rodrick pankratz or some such, and he pauses because maybe it's a trap? and geralt looks so disgusted, lounging back on his throne, because his word is his bond and he would NEVER betray that. so he starts to step away, to go home, prize in his arms, when one of the little goblins shouts "but sire, you still need to marry for the court! you've turned down all your other offers!" and jaskier. just. freezes. and thinks of them, together, back in that ballroom

#jaskier gets to pick his name for the course of the adventure when everyone back home calls him julian #here accepting geralt-- with conditions-- is about accepting yourself and living your truest life without shame #when jaskier wins and reaches the end of the labyrinth geralt is so UPSET he's flinging himself down into his throne #because it means he's lost. it means jaskier will go. jaskier has seen him as a villain this whole time and there was no fixing it #but then jaskker stops. and starts asking questions. and geralt sits up so straight #because hope is blooming in his chest that maybe jaskier will SEE him. maybe jaskier will understand. maybe jaskier CLULD come to love him #witcher tag #ogc tag #idk. i think about it #its a loose AU you have to change a lot to make it work like it does in my head but i think its a good one

I would really like to read one (1) geraskier fic in which someone doesn't have to spell out Geralt's own feelings to him or urge him to make a move on/ apologize to Jaskier, but that instead he realizes his feelings and decides to make a move himself, despite the fear of unrequited feelings and despite being terrified of being vulnerable. Just one.

Remember.

Just because Radovid is behaving himself NOW does not mean that he will continue to do so.

He WILL inevitably turn on Jaskier and he WILL inevitably show his true nature. Radovid's a filthy rat bastard, and he always will be. He's insane, he's against nonhumans, and his kingdom is the birthplace of the Eternal Fire.

It's kind of sickening to root for him and Jaskier, especially when Jaskier is close friends with a Witcher, a Sorceress, and the Lady of Space and Time. All three of which Radovid would strap to a pyre without hesitation.

When Jaskier is left alone to his own devices in Kaer Morhen he plays with the fantastic acoustics of the old keep. He wanders the cold empty corridors and rooms with high stone ceilings, singing and listening to his notes echoing back at him. On long sleepless nights he can be found alone in the great hall, his melodies surrounding him like a ethereal sirens song.

Okay, but should we... worry that Dijkstra and Emhyr switched seats at some point during the reading or...?

I mean, does it actually mean anything? Are we supposed to be concerned about that?

They had seemed to start the reading by sitting everyone with who they were last seen with in S3, or "thematically", at least, somehow...

With Yennefer being where she is because she's part of the main cast, and they needed people to see how she and the new Geralt looked together, I guess!

Otherwise, you have Jaskier next to Geralt and Milva; and since Regis is at the end of the table I'm guessing they kept things a bit more Hansa or Hansa-mission related on that side...

Ciri next to Yennefer with her new girlfriend and the Rats on the other side...

Radovid sitting opposite Jaskier (a bit to his left, I think) with the Redanian Intelligence...

Vilgefortz next to Philippa with Triss and the Lodge of Sorceresses... So Yennefer and Ciri are sitting in front of a wall of the mages...

Then, suddenly, Philippa's flanked by... Vilgefortz (that was already there) and Emhyr Var Emreis (ah... where the fuck did you come from)?!?!?!

Did they start S5's reading, and had some actors "relocate" accordingly?

Did Philippa have a falling out with Dijkstra?

More importantly, where's Radovid? And who's looking after him now?

You had one job, Dijkstra! (Although, no offense, Radovid might be better off without you... Not sure, however, that the fucking Emperor of Nilfgaard is a better replacement! I wouldn't exactly trust him to have the King of Redania's best interest to heart, let me put it that way...)

but like. that said—the more 'Geralt Must Grovel for Weeks and Probably Scourge Himself, Look at What He Did to Poor Sad-Eyed Woobie Jaskier' fics i read the more i'm fucking grateful for the tiny handful where jaskier's just been like, yeah, i never bought that bullshit tbh, he was lashing out and he owes me an apology for sure but a single angry outburst does not in fact scupper an extremely well-established relationship of literally twenty years' standing in one fell swoop???

I’m also excited since I just happened to look, which I’ve done maybe every couple of months, and there was a lot for 6 out of the 7 Merlin figures on eBay. I’ve been wanting them since, I mean, I like figures and dolls and surrounding myself with the things I like. The seller is also in the states, so shipping was about $8 and not $20+ like the individual ones I’ve seen. Just add that to the multiple things I’m looking forward to next week lol

#the only one it doesn't have is Uther #and like I mean why get him anyway unless to have them all #I would have been fine without Morgana too #but she was in the lot #with tax and shipping they were all under $20 #around $16.66 #so I was like hey I'm able to get this so let's get it #don't know yet where they will go since my shelves all need organized #maybe next to the unopened platinum edition of the Jaskier figure if I find a better spot for that and the opened regular version #des says stuff
