every time someone calls moirallegience just an alien qpr i wilt a lil like YEAH thats more or less the CLOSEST human thing but its also Literally Not That. like a qpr is fundanmentally not romantic and thats not even going into moirails whole Actual Purpose of calming ppl down. its just. aughhhhh pisses me off i see the confusion but, as aformentioned, aughhhhh
OH MY GOD THIS HAS BEEN BOTHERING ME TOO.... but i don't want to get petty at the people in my notes always saying "moirails are QPRs!" because in some ways that is the closest human thing so it's hard to be mad...
i think there's definitely some overlap in some ways. but NOT because moirallegiance and qprs are the same at all really, but INSTEAD because both relationships have unconventional boundaries defined by the people within them.
you know... like every relationship.
Tumblr media
like the only reason the two have overlap is because they are both partnerships that emotionally care for each other but can choose to not bang (which is true for any romance anyway, even if it's considered abnormal). they're both just romances* that are unconventional to human norms, which makes people view them as the same thing when they're not.
i think the REAL issue here is that humans insist on using human words to understand things that are just, fundamentally, alien. can't we just appreciate alien romance for being... alien romance?
no, it's not platonic, it's romantic. it's just romantic in a way you aren't quite wired to understand, is all.
*in generalization, most QPRs are not romantic, because they are made up of aroaces who are life partners in a non-romantic way. however i want to disagree with you that none of them are romantic, because that is up to the partners in question.

SYL remember the Ren fair blippet you posted of Konig and his dear??
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRTyaTXk/
This totally gave me flashbacks to it!! he probably completely forgets he's a human from the modern world when he puts his costume on and drags his partner into the festival, he just wants to be a knight in ye olden days with his love
oh my god Jane that is so cute ;;!!! heart is melting… we all deserve a dance with renfaire König…
The difference between König in and out of uniform is barely there, he’s still the same, albeit a bit more focused on the field; the difference between König in and out of costume though…?
It’s as if the single sip of ale he had at the beginning of the faire already had him drunk.
You had meticulously tightened each strap of his armor, cloaked him in the chainmail veil he wore just so, and spent more time than you would have liked preparing him rather than yourself.
He wanted to seat you in his lap whilst he polished the blunt sword, running his gloved fingers over the tip and making a quip about how he should sharpen it whilst your laces remained untied and your makeup was barely in place.
All of that preparation seemed for naught because König becomes someone else the moment you arrive.
He’s obnoxiously cocksure and giddy.
It’s as if some long forgotten knight has him possessed with the way he taunts the smaller men practicing the blade or throwing axes at shoddily painted targets. He has to beat them at every turn, making an entire spectacle of himself with a wild grin affixed upon his face.
There are rules to this: you try to remind him to be gentle, he doesn’t actually have to kill anyone here. Your warnings are met with feverish kisses and too handsy touches along your waist, up further until you detach from him with a laugh. Really, your soldier has become little more than an excitable hound.
You watch from the wooden fence as he readies for a joust. How they managed to find a horse that could seat him properly is beyond you, and from the looks upon their faces the men tending the stables are just as surprised.
The lance König wields looks almost puny in his large hand, and his opponent is more than a little shaken once presented with this giant on horseback. The other man ushers his horse to veer to the right once the joust begins, bypassing König entirely all to dramatically forfeit.
The men locked in duels are no better; no one wants this titan tackling them into the dust with a blade in hand. Everyone had already seen how König managed to bring a man to tears. It’s not much of a surprise that he’s proud of that. Look at how strong he is, princess! Aren’t you honored to have a man like that at your side?
Half of the budget he’s set for the faire is spent on food and ale. He wants you to try everything, hand feed him with a cute pout and that same annoyed yet adoring glare you’ve been shooting him all day. König had no qualms keeping you in his lap during the lavish feast, either. He strokes at your waist where the corset he helped you to fasten has been giving your side some grief after all this walking, plays with your hair until he reaches the nape of your neck and pulls you in to taste sugar on your tongue.
Maybe it’s a bit humiliating to play the role of this rowdy king’s beloved concubine, but it’s difficult not to feel contented when he’s so happy and free.
Not once does work come up.
The only weapons he toys with here are all for pretend. You know him well enough to detect when his team or a particularly gory mission are in mind, and with that rabid grin ever-present on his face it’s difficult to tell the difference, but… his eyes are more vibrant here. There is no tension in his shoulders when you pet him for missing a target with an arrow. The man who hates crowds seems to have been tucked away entirely, replaced by this König that eagerly initiates a duel and debates the time period certain weaponry was in use with a merchant.
He compares you to a fairy or a nymph when you lead him into the open field to dance, blades of grass so high you feel them tickle beneath your gown. His movement isn’t clumsy, though it’s near feverish as he tugs you close to sway, releases you to circle you like a starved wolf just to grasp at any part of your being within reach again.
He hasn’t a clue how to dance, but your hand remains joined with his the entire time, giving him just as much praise as he gives to you. Handsome when he mutters onward about your beauty, strong when he compares you to nimble forest creatures, lovely when he grasps at your hip to loom over you and press lengthy kisses against your exposed shoulder.
The dancing doesn’t end when others disperse either, when night takes the sky, when owls call, and the strumming of a lute plays on in the distance accompanied by shouts and laughter. There are still other events, someplace across the field… just ones the pair of you would not be in attendance for.
Away from envious eyes or drunken bards, König pulls you down to the grass to crowd over you, leaving a series of kisses from face to cleavage. He laughs against your breasts when you comment on how much fun he’s having. Your gown is lifted to fold carelessly above your hips; he mutters into your ear about showing you just how much before his face is pushed between your thighs.
He apologizes against your sex for dragging you out here, for embarrassing you by making that little knight cry, for being so uninhibited and himself that you force yourself to pull away from the sloppy licks altogether.
Your hands find his jaw and you cup his face as you tell him with sheer delight painted within your expression just how much you love seeing him like this. The little knight and all of the other people here are long forgotten in your mind at least, because all that matters is that crooked grin he flashes before helping himself to the millionth pleasure he’s had that day.

I see people claim that we hype up Henry over Elizabeth because she's a woman and I disagree. The reasons why we're focusing on Victor's relationship with him and not his romance with Elizabeth has nothing to do with misogyny.
Oh absolutely, and for one I absolutely adore Elizabeth. The thing with Elizabeth though is,
1) She objectively gets far less “screen time” than Henry does, so it makes sense audiences would be a bit more attached to Henry than Elizabeth initially. It actually really did take reading more interpretations of her character from different people for her role in the story to actually click into place and for me to start really liking her, because a lot of her characterisation is done through subtext.
2) For the romance aspect, forgive me for not cheering on an arranged marriage between two cousins/adopted siblings who have no chemistry with joy
Although I do KIND OF agree that we should totally give Elizabeth more credit (fanartists, let’s get on it), we just don’t get as much information on her as we do Henry, and that’s intentional! Because it’s Victor telling us this story, and despite the fact I don’t doubt they do somewhat care for eachother, it does kind of seem like Victor himself doesn’t really know that much about Elizabeth compared to Henry? Which makes sense, if Henry is who Victor might’ve been if he was mentally stable and took the right path, the Creature is the embodiment of Victor’s regrets and downfalls, and Elizabeth is the consequences of Victor’s actions and how they hurt the people he’s close to.
Elizabeth is kind of a bit of a punching bag for the Frankenstein family, unfortunately, in a lot of ways – she’s brought in after she’s orphaned, betrothed to Victor as a “gift”, expected to take over as the mother figure after Caroline passes away, and is constantly brushed off and pushed to the side by Victor again and again, and no doubt that puts immeasurable strain on her. Victor’s actions effect and hurt so many people throughout the course of the narrative, but Elizabeth is representative of that hurt.
We don’t know a lot about Elizabeth because Victor avoids Elizabeth. Whether to spare her feelings, because he thinks he’s protecting her, because he doesn’t like her, whatever interpretation you have, Victor and Elizabeth are fundamentally, (even if for some reason you can get past them being, again, cousins), not a healthy couple. They don’t talk, they aren’t honest, they don’t communicate, and throughout the course of the narrative it’s just more avoidance and buildup (to the point where Elizabeth writes to Victor specifically asking if he even likes her to begin with), and it doesn’t get resolved. The resolution to Elizabeth’s growing hurt is Elizabeth‘s ultimate death, which should tell you a lot about the symbolism there.
Conversely, Victor and Henry are one of the most healthy couples in classic literature (Jonmina and clervalstein double date when?) and whether you read their relationship as romantic or as platonic, it’s unarguable that they are extremely close. And, as a result, we know a very very good deal about Henry, because Victor talks about Henry very very often. They adore eachother and support eachother unconditionally, and it’s completely natural and fair for most readers to be more attached to Henry’s relationship with Victor as a result, than Victor’s relationship to Elizabeth.
Again, I absolutely love Elizabeth, and I think she’s a very important character who deserves more of a spotlight. But her relationship to Victor isn’t healthy and not something to be idealised or promoted. She is important on her own, and despite what so many adaptations try to push, she isn’t “Frankenstein’s beloved” and her character means so much more than her engagement to Victor. She’s a very strong character who had a very good deal come her way and took it on with very little complaint, and didn’t deserve the pain she went through as a result. And personally, I find that to be far more fascinating than a character who’s only personality trait is to pine after her cousin. Although I do genuinely believe that Elizabeth definitely cared about Victor, and conversely that Victor genuinely cared about Elizabeth, personally I didn’t read either of them as being romantically interested in the other. Especially Elizabeth in Victor.

can you really chose to engage with a moralizing force without the values of that force having an effect on your decision? conversion therapy is an easier example to talk about because its more commonly understood as normative more than anything else (how could one choose conversion therapy without that normative pressure?). but honestly i think this is a feature of advice in general
totally fair question & for the record, this is a huge part of the reason i have more or less taken myself 'off the psychiatric grid' so to speak lol. there are basically two main reasons i'm still cautious about making a blanket judgment about the potential for therapy / other interventions to ever be useful as anything other than a normalising / moralising force.
first, it's just hard to sweep all of these things into one category with comparable consequences. even if we stick to 'drugs prescribed by a psychiatrist that you take on your own time at home', there's a world of difference between, say, stimulants and antipsychotics. both are prescribed because the psych is trying to make you 'normal' and 'functional' (able to work, compliant, &c) but stimulants are, like, fun, and for most people and usage patterns are relatively safe. i know lots of people who get them prescribed and then use them to various non-sanctioned ends; i have also done that extensively and have zero regrets. antipsychotics, on the other hand, come with a raft of incredibly harmful effects and long-term health damage, and don't even produce any kind of comparable pleasurable state. it's hard to imagine anyone actually freely choosing antipsychotics in a situation where they genuinely have no social or economic pressure to do so, and are given full knowledge of the risks they're taking on. like, it's hard to come up with literally any reason for these drugs to exist, or be prescribed or taken, besides violent efforts to make people 'act normal' and be employable and obedient. i think the analysis here always has to take into account these types of specificities—and again, all of this is still limited to the relatively optimistic case in which someone is prescribed a drug and is taking it at home, on their own time; a situation where someone is being eg forcibly injected in an institutional setting calls for a different analysis, and obviously psychiatry has lots of other methods of coercion and force at its disposal. when it comes to placing eg talk therapy into this sort of framework, it's also tricky because i do think this depends heavily on the individual practitioner. like, you raise a fair point that "person who gives you advice and guidance on your life and problems" is a position that inherently involves moralising elements—i think that's right. i guess my hesitation here is like, is there any possibility for a situation in which, in a radically transformed social context, certain talk therapy methods could be removed from the imbalanced doctor-patient relationship; used by choice of the suffering person; and aimed not at achieving a socially-defined state of 'normality' but as a way of giving both the person and their social support network the tools and communication base to live in whatever way the individual defines as best for them? it is possible that at this point i'm getting so speculative that this is not even a useful answer to the question!
second, and this is related to what i'm getting at in the last few sentences, i'm kind of working here off a comparison to any other medical speciality. medicine generally has immense power to do harm, & is frequently deployed explicitly as a way of defining, moralising, and enforcing 'biological normality' (canguilhem &c &c). yet, at the same time, it is true that people experience pain and disease and so forth, and that i firmly believe everyone should have free and full access to what health care exists to treat such problems. the challenge here is how we as communists ruthlessly critique the existing power structures and transform the provision of health care into a way of actually caring for people, prioritising their autonomy and their values for how they live their own lives, as opposed to enforcing a notion of 'good' bodies as a method of population management. i don't mean to suggest that there's no difference between psychiatry and other medical specialties; there is. yet it is also true that affective suffering is real, and although i think much of it is worsened or directly caused by living in a world that actively saps human life-activity for the sake of reproducing capital, i also think that in a full communist utopia people would still experience mental pain and distress sometimes. my position here is that we need to 1) ruthlessly criticise psychiatry and psychiatric care as it currently exists, 2) determine which—if any!—of its tools and methods can be radically transformed into ways of actually caring for one another, without force or coercion or the imposition of externally defined and moralised ideals, and 3) either way, find ways to ensure we are capable of providing care for one another when we are in need and want it. i am not sure whether something that looks like talk therapy will ever be part of this, and my sense is that, if it were, a lot of this work would become something that friends and social supports are capable of engaging in (it is a leetle fucked up imo that we currently offload this onto a provider–client relationship! like, that says a lot about the world). again, though, i don't think any such care is actually 'care' as long as it's aimed at enforcing an external standard of normalcy, functionality, profitability, &c. what i'm interested in is how we ensure that people are able to define their own happiness and flourishing, and how, given that human life is social and collaborative, those around them can be (when wanted) part of a person's effort to live their best possible and most preferred life.
sorry if this is just a really waffling answer lmao. i guess the tl;dr is: yeah i also worry about this and i don't know!

Not quite sure how I feel about season 0 yet
Tumblr media
I’ve definitely enjoyed the first three episodes. Retrospectively, parts of it work really well as a prequel to the original Yugioh series. Like Joey/Jonouchi (might go back and forth on their names since I watched DM in dub) going from a bully to a friend to Yugi and Yugi completing the puzzle, two things that were only ever mentioned in DM. It was neat actually seeing those events onscreen. I know they weren’t in DM because they didn’t want to be too derivative of this series and that’s totally fair but it still made DM feel incomplete in some places.
Apart from the “prequel-y” bits though, this has a very different feel from the rest of Yugioh. So far at least, it’s very episodic. The pilot gives some set ups and the next two episodes (and seemingly the next one based on its preview) are really loosely connected filler stories following these characters, with the occasional horror vibe when Yami Yugi shows up. Every episode so far has followed the same “some guy beats up weak Yugi so Yami Yugi appears in the last few minutes to punish them with a shadow game” narrative. Which is fine, it’s just entertaining enough to keep my attention for a couple episodes at a time while I eat. Season 0 feels different from every other Yugioh series but as a result, it lacks the charm of the other Yugioh series, at least for me.
It has its own merits though. Like its characters, some of which are superior to their depictions in DM.
Tumblr media
Okay not all of them. I still don’t really like Honda (never have) and Miho comes off as kind of manipulative but the others are all pretty good. I like Jonouchi’s more gruff yet still loyal persona in this show, that could just be a sub vs dub thing to be fair but I quite liked it. He’s about on par with his DM self. Yugi Muto meanwhile gets a lot more screentime in this series than he does in DM and as a result, I actually like him right off the bat, unlike DM where it took me much longer to care about either of the Yugis. Yami Yugi...
Tumblr media
...is not as twisted in this as I was lead to believe he was, at least at the point I’ve seen. His voice and design are honestly more weird than creepy which I will admit does disappoint me a bit. I do like how he feels much more like a legit alter ego to Yugi in this than he did in DM, where he was definitely his own person. That worked in its own right but I really like the whole “Jekyll and Hyde” vibe Yugi and Yami have in season 0, as though he’s actually a darker personality originating from within Yugi. Not sure if that’s what they’re going for yet but I enjoy it.
And my favourite season 0 character so far is Anzu.
Tumblr media
No you ain’t trippin, season 0 Anzu is the best interpretation of this character I’ve seen. Dark Side of Dimensions is a distant second place in this regard since it showed her achieving her dream by leaving to study dancing in America (the only bit of character she had that wasn’t related to her relationships in DM) and in episode 2 of season 0, she’s willing to break school rules and get a part time job to raise money for that dream. You go girl. She’s also just generally more enjoyable. I don’t know, the writing here makes her come off as more sassy and no nonsense rather than DM where she just felt... for lack of a better term, like a stereotypical nag. Also, she and Yugi are actually kind of cute in season 0. I like the scene where she sticks up for Yugi when he’s being bullied and Yugi just looks so incredibly happy to see her:
Tumblr media
And this one where he excitedly talks to her about the puzzle:
Tumblr media
They actually seem like genuine friends in this series, a fact that never really came through in DM for me because of how little screentime Yugi got compared to Atem. Anzu’s character revolved around him way too much in DM  and while that could still become a problem in season 0 (in fact it almost definitely will considering the pattern of DM-VRAINS) but I’m glad that for the first few episodes at least, Anzu was allowed to have more of a personality. And she and Yugi have much easier chemistry.
It’s a decent show so far I’d say. If it had been my introduction to Yugioh, I almost definitely wouldn’t have gotten as into it as I have but looking back on it as a “prequel” or the series’ roots in general makes it kind of interesting.

Flowey is the anomaly
During the battle against him, Sans refers to an “anomaly” in the space time continuum, messing around with its control over the timeline. At first glance one would assume that the “anomaly” is Frisk as they are the one holding the RESET power at the present time. Sans himself believes this to be the case.
However, closer examination of the dialogues seems to imply that Sans was wrong in this assumption.
Lets try to see things from Sans’ perspective.
Tumblr media
The first thing to notice is that Sans only knows of an anomaly through these reports showing the state of timelines. Therefore Sans has no way to know that there have been multiple different holders of the SAVE/LOAD power at different points in time.
He can’t tell the difference between who is responsible for a specific timeline jump. For this reason, Sans believes that there was only ever one anomaly “consuming timelines”, and that this anomaly is Frisk.
Tumblr media
However, Sans is actually wrong. The “we” Sans is refering to in this dialogue has been studying the anomaly for some time, but Frisk has not been around for long at all : The whole game takes place in the span of less than a day according to this Froggit after the pacifist ending.
Tumblr media
This is far too short of a delay for Frisk to be the culprit that the scientists have been looking for.
When Sans accuses Frisk of being the one that « keeps consuming timelines over and over », he is refering the all the TI’s he has seen in the reports that came before the current one.  All of them.
Considering that Flowey has tried everything there was to do in this world, he must have been through WAY more TI’s than the PFC could ever come close to, the vast majority of those previous timelines Sans pins on Frisk were actually Flowey’s doing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Flowey took hundred of tries just to attempt to take the human souls alone, the full extent of the number of RESETS he has done in total is unknown, but is easily in the thousands at least.
Tumblr media
However, in the current TI Sans doesn’t know about Flowey and his former powers, this is because Flowey had adopted the rule of avoiding Sans unless it was necessary while he could RESET, and now that he no longer can, Flowey wouldn’t take the risk to face Sans as he isn’t able to come back to life through determination anymore.
Tumblr media
Sans has faced Flowey before, and succeeded in forcing him to RESET more than a fair share of times, in those TI’s it is fairly certain that Sans identified Flowey as the anomaly.
The only thing Sans knows of Flowey in the current TI is through short mentions by Papyrus.
As a human showing up in the underground out of nowhere and acting very weirdly, Frisk is way more suspicious for Sans as a suspect for being the anomaly than this flower his brother mentioned a couple times. Sans suspects Frisk from the very start and will pay attention to any detail that might betray them if they were indeed the anomaly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the genocide route, Sans is already fully convinced that Frisk is the anomaly as early as before Snowdin.
Tumblr media
However, he suspects Frisk from the very moment he meets them, just because of the way they react to his joke or to being asked to hide behind the lamp. Frisk’s behavior is just way too odd for him to ignore.
Tumblr media
Even if you play the genocide route as your first route or after a TRUE RESET and that you go through all of it without using the SAVE ability a single time, Sans still has the same dialogue as before. Even in a situation where Frisk has never used the SAVE/LOAD power, in which case they aren’t responsible for any of the timeline jumps. The ‘anomaly’ stays the same.
In this case, we can see for certain that the PFC isn’t the anomaly. Flowey’s time shenanigans however, still existed. Those are the ones Sans is really refering to, making Flowey the true anomaly.
Even In genocide routes where we do use the SAVE/LOAD power, the total impact on the space time continuum that we had is still negligible compared to the countless iterations that the real anomaly has been through.

boy this post got a lot of good discussion going
@lamphoera replied:
for this kind of thing i put "for the sake of the story" first but also worth noting that the period of time between the end of the medieval period and and the industrial revolution is really short compared to the length of the medieval period itself. it depends on how you define it but you could easily make an estimate of about a thousand years, and then adding on like the classical period, it's a pretty substantial amount of time another thing worth noting is that on the scale of like european history (or at least how it's framed) 2000 years seemingly unbroken is a massively long time but it for example egypt and china have very long histories GOING ON A TANGENT ABOUT THIS but i think saying very little changed and marth would manage just fine is maybe an understatement, because the tech ostensibly is not very different but the culture and geopolitics? undeniably is. actually i'd be really interested in exploring marth and the awakening characters discussing that!
please go on the tangents I love it
I absolutely agree that, technology aside, Marth probably would be suffering from massive culture shock if they dropped him into Ylisse. Ylisse is nothing like Altea, and considering how humble the man seems, knowing that he's enshrined as the Hero-King in Ylissean lore would probably throw him for a loop. That honestly would be fascinating to see.
Also: you're exactly right about Euro-centric history having a very particular framing, a constant push toward industrialization that muddies a lot of discussion -- because there are other cultures with incredible histories that stretch back thousands of years. In the case of Egypt, they were building pyramids like the Giza complex 2,500+ years before Cleopatra. Their histories are incredibly rich and complex, and they're technically pre-Medieval. Even if it does borrow trappings of Medieval Europe, I think it's entirely reasonable to say that their cultural history has been continuing and progressing along the course of other ancient cultures.
(To be fair, though: "for the sake of the story" is a totally legitimate and valid answer, and one that I embrace wholeheartedly. Again, I don't want to play Fire Emblem: Industrial Revolution. That sounds like a shit time.)
@thewizardmus replied:
Hang on but there IS a substantial difference between Altea and Ylisse's development Magic! In the older games Magic was very simple. There wasn't that many tome types and none of them had meaningful secondary effects(because of hardware limits but shush) meanwhile in Awakening magic has progressed well enough that Wind Fire and Thunder magic all have their own branches instead of "Merrics tome" and "the others" and powerful spells that were at one point legendary aAre reproduced and can be purchased at your local Anna, Merric's boyfriend's whole deal in 12 is he took over Khadain because he was mad that Merric was chosen for Excalibur and he got the number 2 tome Thoron. Come Awakening and Thoron isn't just Robin's signature spell for Chrom killing but also something any mage with the gall to study a bit can pick up and use freely That's not even mentioning the weird crap that Plegia has been making the entire time In conclusion while you could totally drop Marth in Ylisse and he'd be fine, if you gingerly placed Merric in Ylisse or Plegia he'd have his mind blown
Okay so let me start by saying that I do take issue with calling magic in Plegia "weird crap." I think it's reasonable to say that Plegia has come farther with magic than Ylisse has, given that they have three separate canonical branches of magic: staves, tomes -- split between anima and dark, the latter of which Ylisse doesn't deal in -- and hexcraft. If we posit that magic is a better signifier of advancement than industrial-level technology, that would place Plegia head and shoulders above Ylisse as the most developed nation on the Archanean continent.
In fact, I've talked about this before, along with the general concept that there was a magic revolution rather than an industrial one.

For me an industry plant is "someone who may or may not be that talented, but they’re still pushed to stardom because they have an entire company marketing/investing in them" and using this term on a fictional character is kinda tricky, but I do think it can be applied to Tim, since *on average* DC's writers/editors tend to showcase him in a more positive light compared to other Batman-related characters due to their bias towards him.
Personally speaking, I have seen way more writers claiming that Tim is their favorite Robin compared to the other Robins (although Dick is a close 2nd) Which explains why they're desperately trying to make his whole thing be "he's the best Robin!" by always making him appear smarter/more capable than the others and why he is rarely treated in a negative manners by the narrative compared to lets say Damian or Cassandra, who had awful storylines with the goal of demonizing them for no other reason than "someone in a high-position in the company hates their guts."
Well I mean, if we're using different definitions for the same term then obviously we're gonna come to different conclusions about it sgdfdhgfjhg
Like when I hear 'industry plant' I can not separate that from the idea that their connection to the larger entity backing them is kept secret/downplayed—that just feels like way too large a piece of what the term actually means to be tossed aside. Every one of the multiple definitions for the term that I came across while searching includes something about that aspect of it. To include a few:
Noun. industry plant (plural industry plants) (slang, derogatory) A music artist associated with a label but appearing as if they are independent and self-made. (slang, derogatory, by extension) A music artist whose popularity is perceived to be due to marketing efforts alone. (x)
An industry plant is an artist who has Major/Indie Label backing their movement but presents themselves as a "home grown start up" label to create a pseudo organic following. They act as if things are miraculously happening for them based on their talent (via blog coverage, media coverage, mtv playing their vids, etc.) The reality is a low risk/high reward situation for labels looking to build the next "new star" (x)
The term ‘industry plant’ is a musical term derived colloquially from hip-hop which is understood to mean, “an artist who has a major/indie label backing their movement but presents themselves as a ‘homegrown start-up’ to create the illusion of an organic following”. (x)
Even in the early days, there was some debate about how best to define an Industry Plant. On a fundamental level, it is an artist whose development takes place away from the public eye. While the major label downplays its influence, it quietly hones the artist into a star. While their rise to fame might appear to be organic, it’s actually been meticulously planned by a major label. As a result, Industry Plants are usually regarded as lacking authenticity. In the eyes of genuinely DIY artists, the Plant is merely a puppet whose success results from someone high up in the music industry ensuring they have the best connections. The key element here is deception. (x)
So the lack of an attempt to deceive/downplay a connection to a bigger entity/character is what makes me really really strongly disagree with the term applying to him.
I also think there’s something else to address in what you’re saying, which is maybe another reason we disagree here:
I think it's totally fair to say that nowadays there is a bias from people at DC towards Tim which makes them prioritize him over others. I'm 100% in agreement with you on that part, and it's annoying the way they try to push him as the 'best Robin' and downplay other characters like Damian and Cass.
But that became a problem after Tim had already become popular.
Like, he certainly had a dip in popularity for a while (largely bc of the New 52) and one could argue there’s been a sort of artificial push to bring him back to popularity in recent times… but when we're talking about the idea of him as an 'industry plant' I think we need to be looking specifically at when he first rose to popularity like 30 years ago. Because otherwise we’re not talking about how/why he became popular in the first place, we’re talking about the effects (and ups and downs) of his existing popularity.
When Tim was introduced and first rose to popularity in the late 80’s/early 90's.... that was years before Damian or Cass as we know them (i say this because technically the baby that would become Damian existed but like, that is not the same character) were introduced to even compare to the way you’re talking about.
At the time he was created, DC wanted to fill the Robin/‘Teen Bat Character’ spot after readers voted to kill Jason because they didn’t like him… Thus, Tim was designed to fit a specific niche—DC knew there would be an audience for a new Batman sidekick as long as they learned from what happened to Jason and created a character different from him that would be better received. Back then it's not that he was 'the young Batman character that people internally decided they like more than the others and thus push more' it's that he was 'the young Batman character'.
He had the opportunity to become a popular character because of being Batman’s new sidekick and managing to be more well received than Jason. Like, that's really it. But that was totally out in the open—he was by Batman's side before he got his chance to go solo, and promo for his solo made a point of bringing up Batman and featuring him. The connection to Batman was always incredibly clear and highlighted.
When we're trying to apply these slang terms from other industries to comics, Tim's situation is just far closer to 'nepo baby' than anything else. He had the opportunity to become popular because he was designed to fill a specific niche connected to an already popular character.

(pt 1) When I watched the episode of Shadow and Bone that gave Aleksander’s backstory, I was really hoping Alina would have a moment at the end of the series that was parallel to Aleksander’s when he accidentally made the Fold (I especially love how Ben Barnes said the “I made something” line and the expression on his face, it really looked like he was already brainstorming tactical advantages he could use the Fold for).
Alina’s concerns and dislike towards the Fold are valid, since the Fold is the reason she became an orphan in the first place. However, I think her reluctance to destroy the Fold and her being kind of overly myopic about that would have been much more interesting if that reluctance was contrasted with her slowly starting to learn more about what the Grisha are going through and how corrupt the monarchy is (I still can’t believe Alina didn’t realize how despotic and useless the monarchy was after hearing Genya’s story, how else could you possibly interpret that). Even if she’s unsure about what the Darkling’s intentions are, it would be interesting to see her have that internal conflict between wanting to help the Grisha but not wanting to use the Fold.
This could have led to a moment where Alina ends up having to expand the Fold in a moment of desperation because many people could die if she doesn’t. For that to work, Alina has to be a protagonist who actively wants to learn things and is empathetic (she also needs a corruption arc). But, Alina is so uninspired and cares for no one except Mal, which not only makes her come across as annoying, but also very unintelligent and I hate it.
I had to send my ask in parts, because it got really long when I wrote it out and I couldn't fit it all in one due to the character limit. I'm sorry if that's inconvenient, but I really wanted to know what you think because I really like your blog, especially all the Grishaverse and Hannibal content.
This is a very long ask (Thanks a lot! <3), so I’ll take it piece by piece:
When I watched the episode of Shadow and Bone that gave Aleksander’s backstory, I was really hoping Alina would have a moment at the end of the series that was parallel to Aleksander’s when he accidentally made the Fold
We already have a parallel, although not a fair one. In the first episode, the creators had Alina intentionally destroy important military maps, so she can cross the Fold with Mal. The similar parts are Darklina both did something horrible that got out of hand.
The differences are greater: Aleksander’s loved one was murdered right in front of him, his mother and people were in mortal peril. If he succeeded, he’d have a weapon to protect them all. Malyen was in danger, but he wasn’t targeted by anyone. Alina not thinking through the severity of the impact of her actions cannot be compared with being cornered to use mythical power one doesn’t fully understand to live to see another day.
From storyteller’s POV, it doesn’t make sense to add character-building scenes that will never be brought up again in any way. Alina wasn’t confronted about her reckless crime- let’s be honest, she’d be executed if anyone knew. Aleksander was painted as a desperate protector, yet the remainder of the season treated him as villain, that needs to be stopped.
I especially love how Ben Barnes said the “I made something” line and the expression on his face, it really looked like he was already brainstorming tactical advantages he could use the Fold for
He totally was.
Plus I’d add some fascination, because Sasha is a curious creature.
Alina’s concerns and dislike towards the Fold are valid, since the Fold is the reason she became an orphan in the first place.
I wouldn’t say so. It might be direct reason, but not the original one.
The Fold is like a great ocean full of beasts, or lava field. It’s dangerous if you wanna get on the other side. It won’t actively chase you around. If Alina’s parents didn’t go there, they would still live, so to find out, what killed them, we need to continue, and ask why would they risk going into such a dangerous place?
Now, show came up with whole new plotline, that probably answers that. Alina comes from mixed marriage. Shu aren’t exactly well-loved in Ravka and- no matter, what the show wants us to see- understandably so. We can safely assume Alina’s mother wasn’t accepted better than her daughter, and Alina’s parents might’ve thought moving West would help them find safer place to live in.
But even racism isn’t the real villain here. That’s a consequence of another problem. Why do Ravkans distrust Shu? Because they’re at war for over a century. Conflict this long means there would be milder times and worse ones. The books tell us there are disputable areas, claimed by either of these countries through the centuries. That means cycles of (relative) peace, when both nations cohabit and mingle, and more turbulent times, when love among them is scarce.
This just happens to be one of the worse times in Ravkan-Shu relations, when Shu feel Ravka’s weaker and weaker, so they’re raiding, murdering and kidnapping... and their ordinary people on the wrong side of the border pay for it.
“You murdered my parents.” is just a sentiment of a hurt child, not a statement of adult with critical thinking. But the writers don’t want the heroine to consider wider implications. She might hate wars and realize her “enemy” has a point.
However, I think her reluctance [not]??? to destroy the Fold and her being kind of overly myopic about that would have been much more interesting if that reluctance was contrasted with her slowly starting to learn more about what the Grisha are going through and how corrupt the monarchy is (I still can’t believe Alina didn’t realize how despotic and useless the monarchy was after hearing Genya’s story, how else could you possibly interpret that). Even if she’s unsure about what the Darkling’s intentions are, it would be interesting to see her have that internal conflict between wanting to help the Grisha but not wanting to use the Fold.
One of the saddest aspects of the show are these cool, or interesting statements that just don’t correspond with the plot. One of those is Alina telling Aleksander she wants to make the world better place for Grisha before their first kiss. Or her saying she’ll come back to help Ravka, when she’s stronger or whatever. The moment her oponent’s presumed dead and nothing stands between her and her return to Os Alta, the only place, where she knows she could learn...
The whole situation is badly handled. The show seems as anti-Grisha as the books, except less showy (LOL).
We don’t see the horrors Grisha have to face. Nina’s a spy kidnapped by enemy forces. That’s occupational hazard, not state-organized genocide.
The heroine is a victim of anti-Shu sentiments. There’s also some war with those. Now imagine, if she met Shu Grisha refugees, saved from one of their laboratories.
Grisha are painted as privileged upper class. They’re arrogant chauvinists and show offs.
Second army constitutes of incompetent fools, canon fodder in fancy clothes.
People are running away from draft to Second Army, not joining for safety offered by the Darkling.
The fact finding a Heartrender in Katterdam is hard because they’re virtually slaves, is conveniently glossed over.
The only people we see at least talk about the real state of things are either unsympathetic- Ivan contradicting Alina’s speech about struggle-, or straight up villains justifying their unforgivable actions against the heroine- Aleksander.
Eight episodes, extra (feeble) Crows plotline and five meadow scenes also mean we never really see Alina live in Little Palace or interact with other Grisha. There’s no confrontation with the Grand Palace luxury. The scenes, where Alina’s painting pictures of Grisha living freely among other Ravkans doesn’t make it look like any of that happened off the camera. It’s even more obvious she lived in her own bubble, when she was in Little Palace.
Genya’s story is presented, when Alina’s full of self-righteous fury and the viewer isn’t supposed to pay it more attention than Alina herself. Or blame it on the Darkling the way everything’s “solved” (in the books).
So yes, it would be nice, if her desire to do something for others wasn’t just empty statement, before she smooches the hot, yearning idealist.
This could have led to a moment where Alina ends up having to expand the Fold in a moment of desperation because many people could die if she doesn’t.
Now, we’re getting a little out of hand. Alina might be powerful, but it should take time, before her skills get on level of (at least) decades old immortal. No matter how much books ignore that little detail. But I understand the sentiment. If we want to pretend the Darkling’s wrong, Alina should face similar situation and solve it better.
For that to work, Alina has to be a protagonist who actively wants to learn things and is empathetic (she also needs a corruption arc). But, Alina is so uninspired and cares for no one except Mal, which not only makes her come across as annoying, but also very unintelligent and I hate it.
I don’t think corruption arc is necessary. She doesn’t need to become “morally weak”, quite contrary- becoming more self-aware and realistic would mean becoming morally better person. I’d say it’s worse to sit by idly, than decide, who will live when you’d want all to survive. One of those will certainly end up with everyone dead. Mistakes are inevitable, but inaction inexcusable.
Grishaverse is a horrible place for Grisha. It’s not exactly nice to “ordinary people” either. Wars are paid by lives of innocents, want it or not. Fighting them isn’t about saving everyone, but managing losses untill you find a way to make the other side stop.
The problem with show!Alina is relative inconsistency. Book!Alina doesn’t give a flying fuck about Ravka or Grisha in the whole first book. Her only concern is Mal and her own comfort.
Show!Alina’s seemingly more active insider her story. She talks about using her newfound influence, she initiates her relationship with Aleksander, she seems to enjoy her time in Little Palace, especially once she “accepts” she’s Grisha... so we expect her to continue that way. Instead she follows Baghra, the Cockblocker, and disappears without a real plan to do anything. When she conveniently stumbles over Mal, she decides to go after the Stag, but what then?
The only logical way forward would be to confront the Darkling, but when that happens, it isn’t on her terms, so she’s not really interested in any sort of conversation. If she really cared about anything but her own hurt, she wouldn’t blindly defy the Darkling and disappear for no reason at all. Show!Alina’s a hypocrite, because she claims she cares, but her actions say it’s only about herself and Mal.

The Bachelorette: Episode 19 - Learning Experiences
Welcome back once again to The Bachelorette! It’s time to move out of the Bachelorette mansion and into a new fabulous vacation spot. Aja goes on two dates, and let’s just say one of them is pretty surprising. Aja now moves into her Fantasy Suite, where she can invite her date to spend the night - cameras off. Looks like things are heating up!
Tumblr media
Aja and the final three were leaving the Bachelorette mansion for their new location when suddenly, there was a mysterious burst of light in the sky. What could that be? [soundtrack]
Tumblr media
“Is that…no way.”
Tumblr media
“Hey guys! What’d I miss?”
Tumblr media
“X’irron!!! Holy shit!! How are you here?? Didn’t you get deported back to space??? Oh my god I MISSED you!!” “I missed you too! I’ll explain everything once we get a chance to talk. Where are we going?”
Tumblr media
“Surely he can’t be allowed to just drop back into the competition, no?” I mean, why not? “It’s not fair! He hasn’t been here half the time!!” Bastien…YOU entered the competition halfway through. “That was different.”
Tumblr media
With our additional passenger ready to go, we head away from the mansion and to a beautiful set of bungalows deep in the magnificent jungles of Costa Rica. Each bachelor will have his own little bungalow, but the best room of course is Aja’s Fantasy Suite, where each bachelor might just have a chance to spend the night with Aja if he’s lucky enough to get an invite.
Tumblr media
Aja is overjoyed to get another day to spend with our favorite extraterrestrial, X’irron. The two go on a date to a bar in town where the locals teah them how to salsa. Just like his singing, X’irron’s dancing is…not great. Music and dancing aren’t really a thing on Sixam though, so we’ll cut him some slack. Besides, him and Aja still have a great time.
Tumblr media
Danced out, Aja and X’irron find a quiet spot in the courtyard to catch up. Aja gives X’irron the lowdown on everything he’d missed. He’s pretty confident he would’ve killed it if he’d been here. The first elimination, Alanzo and Darion went home - “Come on. No way you would’ve eliminated me round one.” The obstacle course - “Earth’s gravity is pretty weak compared to Sixam’s, so I’m really light on my feet. Woulda aced it.” The hometown dates - “Not gonna lie, that would’ve been iffy…but the Bastien vs. Cooper situation would’ve kept me safe. I was always gonna be top three. ” Then it’s X’irron’s turn to explain. Right before X’irron left his planet to be on the show, Sixam deemed Earth a quarantined planet. Because of that X’irron was teeeechnically not supposed to be here, so his family came and zapped him up before he got in trouble with IICE (Intergalactic Immigration and Customs Enforcement.) Luckily he was able to get a Cultural Studies Visa and come back to Earth. In the meantime, he did a lot of traveling to other planets.
Tumblr media
“Well, I’m glad you’re back. I seriously thought I was never going to see you again. I hope you didn’t have TOO much fun planet hopping.” “I’ve been a lot of places, but Earth is special - even if it is a dying planet. I won’t lie though, I have some crazy stories from all over the galaxy.” “…X’i, I have kind of a weird question to ask you, and I don’t know how without sounding like a total weirdo so just hear me out for a second. Sooo you’ve hopped around to all these different planets, and I know you’re a big social butterfly. Have you ever…~gotten to know~ people on other planets. Know what I mean?” “Oh, you’re asking if I’ve ever fucked an alien. Yeah! It’s a learning experience.” “X’irron!!!” “That’s not what you were asking?” “I mean yes, but I would’ve asked it more delicately!” “You Earthlings and your ‘tact.’ Sixamians don’t even have a word for that. Have YOU ever ~gotten to know~ people from other planets?” “No, you’re actually the first alien I’ve ever met.”
Tumblr media
“Well, first time for everything. Right?” [soundtrack] Before things get to heat up too much, X’irron and Aja request to end their date early, even though we still have like 5 hours of shoot time left.
Tumblr media
They go right to Aja’s suite, and she sends us away immediately.
Tumblr media
So miss Aja, how did your overnight with X’irron go? Any interesting details to share?? “He and I had a lovely evening.” You’re contractually obligated to give us a better soundbite than that. “Fineee. I’ll say this: I learned a lot of very interesting things about myself last night and I’m glad I got a chance to ‘get to know’ X’irron better. That a good soundbite?” It’s a good thing there’s a day in between all the fantasy dates, because Aja spends the whole next day asleep. Get it, girl.
Tumblr media
Next is Aja’s date with Zeke, where they explore an ancient Incan temple hidden in the depths of the jungle.
Tumblr media
Each tomb comes with a puzzle to solve and plenty of booby traps to avoid, but both seasoned travelers Aja and Zeke study the tombs and find their way through the maze.
Tumblr media
Eventually, they come to a weird archway that’s rumored to lead to amazing treasure. “Indiana Jones been reallll quiet since we teamed up.”
Tumblr media
Lo and behold, the rumors are true. Aja decides they should give the treasure to the local cultural center. “I just don’t want some white tomb raiders to find it and sell it to the British Museum, you know? I think the temple spirits will understand.” “Just when I thought you couldn’t get any more perfect. That’s an incredible plan.”
Tumblr media
They have some trouble finding their way out though, and they walk right into a trap that dropped Aja into dangerous waters! Luckily Zeke is there to dive in and pull her right out. Thank god, because this show can NOT afford another hospital visit.
Tumblr media
“Aja!! Are you okay??” “I’m fine Zeke - I wasn’t drowning I just REALLY didn’t wanna get my hair wet.” “Don’t scare me like that!” “Aw but it was so fun to see you go all valiant hero on me. I think I still might need mouth to mouth.”
Tumblr media
“Lucky for you I’m CPR certified.”
Tumblr media
Aja invites Zeke back to her suite where they celebrate their successful adventure. “I can’t BELIEVE we fell for that trap! Now my hair looks a MESS, so embarrassing.” “I got you. Sit down, I’ll give you a retwist.”
Tumblr media
“Booby traps aside, I had so much fun with you today. It seems like every time we’re together we get into some craziness. And the retwist is a nice touch - I was overdue.” “Gotta have your crown looking right, right? Aja, you are reckless in the best way.” Zeke finishes Aja’s retwist in record time like a master loctician, and after that the night really gets away from them. They spend a long time talking about their travels, their plans for the future, their hopes and dreams - stuff like that. “I really want Black Beauty Babies to be more than just my brand, you know? Especially after visiting your commune I’ve been thinking a lot about how I can really give back instead of just being the face of something. I worry a lot about my social media presence making me seem disingenuous. I don’t know, maybe that’s dumb.” “You wouldn’t be worried about it if you didn’t mean it. Honestly, you’re one of the most genuine people I’ve ever met.” “I don’t always feel like I am though. I don’t know - maybe you bring it out of me more.” [soundtrack]
Tumblr media
Um hey Aja, it’s way past wrap, so we’re gonna head out. “Oh shit, sorry, I didn’t realize it was so late! I can’t believe we stayed up til 3am just talking.” “You want me to go, so you can get some sleep?” “Absolutely not. Crew though - yall can leave please.”
Tumblr media
So Aja, how do you feel after your overnight with Zeke? Your locs look great by the way, he really got you the hook up. “Zeke is special. I can’t explain it, but it’s like there’s this new version of myself that I’m learning to be when I’m around him.” How would you say the dates are stacking up so far overall? You had a great time with X’irron too, right? “They’re both so different. It’s impossible to compare!” But there’s another elimination coming up after you go out with Ryan and Bastien - you’re gonna have to compare them eventually. “I’m trying not to think about that.”

That was quite the curiousity to hear, but i'd give Dylan his own space.
Hearing the party mom doing the karen thing, it did grind me the wrong way, when i heard Vincent ask the question, i replied "I think i'll wait. Your hands seems to be full at the moment.".
Listening to the further to the karen, a different idea came up, though i wasn't sure if i should follow through with it, Vincent was already having enough on his plate, as tempting as it was. The idea itself was basically to use Anon Magic to take the appearence of a manager, take the karen to a different room and basically eat her, but now with Scott here, they might have a bit more logical idea and i'd not have to spent a ballet to reform her later either.
Tumblr media
Scott entered the scene, "What seems to be the problem?" "This purple menace was trying to rob me blind by just shooting a random number off the top of his head." Vincent took a deep breath, "She ordered two pitchers of drinks, two half and half pizzas and a size of an item that's not even on the menu, but was easy enough for me to make in the kitchen since we did have the ingredients and I was willing to be accommodating because her child because they were being so polite up until this point."
Scott looked over, "Ok... Vincent did you use the P.O.S. system?" "No. I didn't... mainly because I work here and I know the prices of everything by memory, and have been keeping track with a single ticket and added to it every time they ask for a new food item." "Well, I see what's going on here... Vincent, you need to go use the P.O.S. system, make sure everything is accounted for so the lovely lady here can get the bill that she rightly deserves."
Vincent nodded, "Of course, I should have just done that from the start." He replied, as he removes the sticky note to remind him not to use it, and places it under the counter out of sight. He punches in the the amounts, "So two pitchers, two half and half two topping pizzas, a box of fries, and a cup of extra shredded cheese with two double burgers worth of patties for the custom order cheese burger fries, comes out to a grand total off..." He paused as the receipt printed out. "$ 420.69... what a fair price compared to the number I pulled out of thin air.."
The karen looked flabbergasted, looking pale in the face. "..." Scott looking over trying to hide his pleasant mood, "Is there a problem?" "There is no way that is the correct price."
"... but I thought you wanted the price the P.O.S system was giving you because mine was just pulled out of thin air." Vincent replied, with a smile on his face. "I will not stand for being gaslight, I will be telling everyone to never come to this establishment again," she huffed out, "We're leaving!" She left out the door, ushering out the small part of children to the minivan, who looked pretty bummed they didn't get to stay longer, on kids muttering around "god your mom's a bitch" and "this is why we can't have nice things parker."
Her tired looking husband looked over toward them. "I'll cover the cost of the food, just please don't call the cops." "Oh, it's no worries, the price is actually $55.99... the P.O.S. has been busted since this morning... but what ever that creature was that took the place of the nice lady I was talking with this morning didn't let me get a chance to explain that I had to do the math myself." Vincent replied.
"Ahh ok. Thank you, I'm really sorry again." "Oh, its no problem, you're the one who married her... I wish you the best.... oh and I'd say maybe to win some brownie points you could say you haggled us down, but honestly looking sole crushingly broke would probably work out better for her attitude adjustment unless you haven't gone paperless with your banking.... and if she wants a divorce whole hardly accept and get a custody lawyer before she gets on if you want your children raised right." Vincent replied with a wave, as he huffed going to get the party tabled cleaned off now.
"Cheers mate. Thanks for the advice." The tired husband paid and gave a wave and headed out toward the van.

November 21: Halloween III
I finally sat down to watch Halloween III yesterday (and do some more sewing... I remain in the vast middle of this blanket) and...you know, it wasn’t bad. I have very mixed feelings on it being in the Halloween franchise. I think perhaps people would have appreciated it more at the time if they hadn’t come in with expectations from the first two films, but on the other hand, how many people would bother to watch it NOW if they weren’t trying to watch all the Halloweens?
But then to the first point, I think people now are still judging it too harshly because, again, they are looking for more of Halloween I and II and they can’t get over the name.
Overall, I’d put it on par with Halloween II. It’s hard to compare because they’re totally different genres, which, again, is part of the problem in everyone’s reaction to it. If they were going to make Halloween an anthology, they shouldn’t have made Halloween II. I don’t think it added much to the story honestly, and Halloween I is a near-perfect film.
Anyway. Halloween I and II are slashers and Halloween III is more of a science fiction horror-thriller. Extremely 80s. It had some ideas I thought were really creative and creepy and weird and a few distinctly scary moments. I thought it was interesting trying to find the recurring motifs from the first two. The use of the TV commercial as a constant, background hypnosis, and how it reminded me of the deft use of TV in the first two Halloweens, was really good. And I give credit for the ever-present Halloween Pumpkin’s new form as a digital image and mask, even if the digital image does date the movie extremely quickly. Including a twist on the concept of an Iconic Mask--before, it belonged to one man, now it belongs to everyone, and what the mask does to YOU is the terror--was very smart. The unease builds up over time in a way that isn’t unique to Halloweens I and II, it’s part of any good horror in one way or another, but Halloween I always thought was especially notable for how it builds creepiness during the day, and Halloween III was similarly not hindered by daylight at all.
But other hallmarks of Halloween were noticeably absent, like the type of scares you could expect: no real jump scares here, minimal looming figures in the shadows. Halloween I and II focused the story on one person, one figure of terror, but Halloween III was more about the conspiracy, the ghost town, the surveillance. The type of terror this one inspired was totally different.
I wasn’t really scared at any point, though to be fair I was also sewing and so I wasn’t fully into the experience, but I thought there were good Scary Ideas in it. I especially loved the design of the masks. Masks in general are very scary to me and these had that Old Time feel to them. Similarly, I love a good Ghost Town conceit, and they built up the Shamrock town really effectively: the sets, the cameras, the men in the shadows, the warning from a drunk, the cast of wacky characters giving just a little comic relief even though you know they’re only here as eventual victims...
The idea was sufficiently creative that even though I saw where some stuff was going, I didn’t figure everything out until the Big Bad explains it. It was all over the place in some ways--robots and mysticism and bugs and a guy that’s just evil for no reason and also hypnosis and world domination and computers and TV--but I don’t count that as a negative. It kept me on my toes. It was fun.
I also think there’s something... dated and resonant into today about the concept of hypnotizing everyone through the TVs. Like I can tell by the credits that they were trying to Move Into the 80s in a very purposeful way: mass advertising through televisions, modern tools used for Ancient Evil ends, the planets align for a massacre as of old but we are perpetuating it on a new scale because we have new tools. But would it not be even EASIER to do that today? I mean in one sense no because audiences are more fragmented but in another sense? How could the doctor even begin to stop a viral marketing campaign that was placed on a million different websites, watched by people wherever from the little screens they carry in their pockets? You can’t just cal up one TV station and ask them to pull the plug. The idea that The Youth are really into something that adults can’t understand, that this is happening without adults even fully realizing it, on phones and tablets and laptops in kids’ rooms, would also be a particularly terrifying twist in a 2022 version of the story.
My favorite scenes were the “misfire” in the hotel room (truly disgusting and the first part that really scared me); the knitting robot (no idea what that was about, but a cool image); Challis in the chair with the mask on; and the ending, because it was a great cliffhanger. And my very favorite was the test family scene. Absolutely terrible from first to last: scary, disgusting--strong images, good pacing.
I also appreciated that the deaths in it were all part of the story. Unlike Halloween I, and more similar to Halloween I even though it is a slasher, people died to further the plot or make a point, not just to include another Murder Tableau.
The worst bits for me... it took a while to come together imo. I didn’t really start getting interested until they got to the ghost town. There were hints of something interesting before that but it was a little meh. Starting off with a long chase sequence between two characters I don’t know or care anything about is not my favorite thing. I also don’t think any of the characters hold a candle to Laurie or the others in Halloween I. The Challis and Ellie romance was extremely unnecessary--very “he was a boy, she was a girl, can I make it any more obvious.”
So overall... yeah, I would probably watch it again. It wasn’t my favorite of all time but I will be supremely shocked if I make it through all the Halloweens and rank this one the worst.

Unpopular Opinion Time
Let’s start off by saying this: collecting information is wrong, using that for doxxing and sending out malicious viruses even more so, full stop. What has happened in the creator community recently is just shit and should not have happened in the first place, but here we are. But how exactly did we get here?
I have some thoughts on custom content creation and with all the drama lately, it needs addressing. I will put under a read more as I like to ramble.
it is rubbing me the wrong way the knee jerk reaction of people saying “only download from free creators.” Creating is hard, takes time and money. Yes it is a hobby for a lot of people, but a pastime can also help to support that person (my dad grew and sold plants for decades to help fund his love, so separating out income and a hobby is clearly being belligerent and is self-serving of your own beliefs). Art can be a hobby but do you lament artists selling their creations or accepting donations to see more of what they do? Paper costs money, so do art supplies and software. Content, for me at least, is as much of an art form as drawing, it is just a different medium. You may dislike early access, but that does release more free content into the community as a whole as well, while also allowing creators to do what they love without fear of it taking too much free time, or time they might have to work more at a job to make ends meet. This brings me to the wording. People are just saying to “download from” free creators, you need to do much more then that, as this is the reason we have gotten to this point.
Free creators are taken for granted. I should know, I am one of them. When you compare free creators with early access creators, there is a HUGE discrepancy between what comes in via donations, and what early access creators make. When new creators see this, can you blame them for going early access? I hate to say it, but the community brought this on themselves to some degree. People are willing to pay for new content, and in some cases equivalent quality between free and early access, but the early access creator gets so much more support. That’s not OK. These same people also wonder why creators leave the community or become early access. It’s because the community just wants their content, and if it’s free they really don’t care about the person behind it. They got what they wanted at a cheaper rate. It is really quite disheartening.
Even though EA/Maxis requires third party content to be free, that doesn’t excuse you from not supporting the creators.
So educate yourselves and don’t undervalue what CC creators do. I also don’t think it is fair to just say “download from ___ because they don’t use _____.” How about creating an environment that isn’t actively hostile for creators, support the ones that are ethical, and most importantly educate yourselves about what is safe internet usage (seriously, individual download links? So many red flags there). Yes, call out those who are unethical, but don’t use me and other content creators doing this for free to push your agendas about how “the sims used to be better before all this early access stuff happened.” No, it wasn’t, creators were still taken advantage of back then too. This is nothing new.
If you can’t support an artist monetarily (which is totally ok, content should be free, whether early access or free outright, down with exclusives), help spread the word so maybe they could find others that could support them. This situation is not just one sided, it is a situation that has come about from a number of places, and underappreciation for what CC creators do is one of them. Both sides are to blame here, that is just fact. Share the blame and address it, don’t deflect like you are innocent in all this. It’s time to address this issue head on, not deflect and forget in 10 minutes.
Again, don’t collect info, doxx, send out malicious viruses, all that jazz. That is way too far and highly unethical.

could u please do like a harry x youtuber/influencer!reader and like lots of fluff🥺
Hi bubbie! Here you go :)))
Word Count: 4k
Warnings: Language
Harry was panicking. His mum and sister were going to be here in less than two hours and he’s burnt the eggplant parmigiana he had worked tediously on.
He grabbed what he had left in his fridge - ground beef, shredded cheddar cheese, and a little bit of bacon.
It was the type of foods he usually strayed away from so sometimes when his shopper would bring this stuff home - he’d avoid it and admittedly sometimes it would go bad sitting in the fridge.
The singer pulls up YouTube onto his phone - hoping something would come up when he typed in the ingredients on the search bar.
He clicks on the first video by cookingwithnofucks. A chuckle at the name as an advertisement plays.
A cute, bubbly girl appears on screen in a beautiful modern kitchen. She has a shirt on that says ‘fuck the patriarchy and eat pizza’. A high ponytail and minimal makeup.
“Okay - today we’re making a cheeseburger casserole,” the girl chirps, “It’s a heart attack in a dish but it’s so fucking good.”
Harry finds himself smiling as he crinkles his nose - it sounds absolutely disgusting but hes intrigued more by the girl on the screen.
“Shit, I forgot to introduce myself. Hiii, if you’re new - I’m Y/N and I do cooking shit. Subscribe to my channel and all that jazz,” she titters while cutting open her beef package.
Harry follows along step-by-step, shaking his head as she doesn’t describe the instructions nearly well enough and is generally all over the place.
It’s a fucking cooking channel and at one point the meat starts burning. She just laughs and says, “s’just a little crispy!”
The casserole turns out looking even better than Y/N’s to be honest. It’s done in just the right amount of time for him to shower before his family arrives.
He makes sure to subscribe to her channel - eyebrows raising when he sees that she has 16 million subscribers.
Harry wanted to spend longer, looking at her social media but there was a fixed time so he locked his phone and went to get ready.
**
Anne - always the sweetheart just tells Harry that the casserole is delicious even as a bit of grease runs down her fork from the fatty meats.
Gemma wasn’t as kind, grimacing at the casserole and remarking, “You truly are turning into an American, huh?”
**
Laying in bed that night, Harry swipes back onto YouTube. Going back to the page he just subscribed to - under a pseudonym. He clicks on another video.
“Uh, okay. So I’m cooking...fuck, it’s called unicorn bark. It looks like a magical animal puke but it looks delicious so we’re going to try it.”
Harry realizes he’s been watching this girl cook for nearly an hour. Different videos from desserts to dinners.
She curses like a sailor, fucks up almost every recipe, and makes a mess everywhere. But she’s smiling and talkative which makes him quite memorized by her.
**
“I hate editing,” Y/N groans, letting her head fall dramatically against the desktop. Her best friend and dog looked at her oddly.
“I keep saying you need to hire someone, you stubborn bitch,” Laney retorts, clicking through her Instagram feed.
“Fuck off,” she tells her friend with no real heat. The video was almost fully edited - how to make spicy as fuck jalapeño poppers.
There is a calm silence for a while until Laney gasps, “Holy shit.”
“What is it?” Y/N asks, not really caring as she clicks her mouse to trim a segment.
“Harry fucking Styles just followed you on Instagram and Twitter!” Laney shouts, her dog - Rufus popping his head up in confusion.
Y/N looks at her friend to see if she’s really serious and sees no signs of deception. “Oh my god,” Y/N replies. She loved Harry Styles in One Direction and as a solo artist - a fangirl if you will.
Y/N was a well-known influencer and has run in the circles of many celebrities. She’s even met Liam Payne but she’s never been able to bump into Harry.
Her alerts tell her it to be true, she swallows as she looks back up at Laney, “He dm’ed me.”
“Open it! What did he say?” She squeals, squeezing herself on the chair next to her, peering over her shoulder at the phone.
Y/N is a bit nervous, trying not to have a mini aneurysm as she opens the message thread.
HarryStyles: Hello. Just wanted to let you know that your cheeseburger casserole recipe saved my ass last night. Cheers x
“He’s totally coming onto you,” Her friend states instantly, bouncing excitedly - she also had a bit of a crush on the singer.
It takes the two of them a minute to cool their shit before Y/N manages a reply.
Y/N/LN: Well I guess it’s only fair. Your songs have made a few of my nights much better. I’m a bit of a slut for Fine Line.
Harry laughs behind his screen at the cheeky reply he gets back. He’s usually never this forward - especially on social media where he likes to fly under the radar.
HarryStyles: Well if you fancy my music that much, I totally love for you to come to a show. I’m performing in New York City in two weeks.
“This has to be a joke, right?” Y/N sputters to her friend, eyes wide at the invite to a concert she already had tickets to.
Y/N/LN: I’m not going to lie, I already have tickets to the show. However, I don’t have any backstage passes to meet the man of the hour. Do you know someone who can hook me up?
It does wonders for Harry’s narcissism to know that she already had tickets for his concert. Was he really going to do this? He hasn’t met up with some like this since his One Direction days.
He had to remind himself - she may just be friendly and take this as a totally casual interaction. Which would be normal, Harry really shouldn’t be so infatuated with someone he’s watched cook on social media.
HarryStyles: I think I can arrange that. Shoot me your number? I’ll have them sent digitally to you with instructions on how to get backstage.
Y/N is a bit dumbfounded at how fast they agreed to meet up. A harmless backstage tour - he could just be a fan of hers and totally not interested, right?
**
Over the next few weeks, they never really stop texting. Harry sends her pictures of the recipes he copies off her channel - that usually always look better than the original. He sends her clips of him goofing around during tour rehearsal. FaceTimes her when he’s finally home for the night.
She sends him videos of her watching Harry Styles Best Moment Part Five. A few photos she snaps throughout the city of him on billboards and buildings, in Times Square. YN facetimes him when she’s frustrated with filming or watched a sad movie.
It didn’t make sense to either of them how seamlessly they’d clicked - especially without meeting. They were a perfect balance for each other. Harry - laidback, organized, level-headed. Y/N - eccentric, all over the place, adventurous.
Jeff had told him that he’s been gaining media attention from his social media interactions with Y/N. They like each other’s photos, begin following each other’s friends, and comment goofy things on their posts.
“Listen, I have a great idea,” Y/N begins - which Harry learned is never good. “You should film a video with me sometime.”
Y/N knew she was going out on a limb and instantly regretted the questions she’d been building the courage to ask for days when it’s quiet on his end. There’s static for a moment and Y/N needs to fill the silence.
“It was - I was just, uh, I know you’re probably too busy. I was -“ She stutters, embarrassment flooding her.
Harry cuts her off, “I’d love to.”
“Yo-you would?” She asks timidly. Was she really going to have Harry Styles in her apartment? If so, should she take down her poster?
He laughs sweetly, “Why do you sound so surprised? I can’t wait to come to New York, love.”
Y/N giggles, “Not the fact that you’re performing in front of a sold out crowd at MSG? I don’t think seeing me will top that.”
“I’ve been looking forward to meetin’ you in person since I came across your channel. You so lovely,” Harry replies, his voice a little softer but more serious.
“I’m nervous,” Y/N admits, picking at a thread in her jeans.
“Me too,” Harry murmurs, despite not wanting to admit it - he wanted her to know this was new territory for both of them. He didn’t want her to think that this was something that he did often. But a little too prideful to admit it’s the first time he’s ever done something quite like this.
“What if you don’t like me?” Y/N whispers, she...well she didn’t compare to the models he’s been seen with before. She’s regretfully fell into the rabbit hole of looking up his past flings and relationships.
Harry barks out a disbelieving laugh, “You can’t be serious, darling. I’ve been gone for you since I saw you burn that ground beef.”
**
Harry was having a bad day - scratch that. An awful one. He tried to go get coffee at eight in the morning and got bombarded by fans, he left the shop without even ordering. They followed him back to his car and it took him fifteen minutes to pull out.
His favorite Mickey Mouse Gucci suitcase he was bringing along on tour had busted. The zipper unraveling and the trim falling off as a result. It was a one-of-a-kind.
Then he’d been stuck on a Skype meeting about tour merchandise with a group of business partners for the last three hours - all he wanted was a fucking nap.
When Y/N’s contact vibrated across his screen, he’s itching to answer but declines as he needs to give these people his attention.
When she calls again, Harry feels a prickle of annoyance. It’s not even at her - to be quite honest. It’s just the shitty day and everything’s piling up.
He always got like this before he kicked off a tour - stress level maxed out and his ability to handle minor incidents nearly shot.
I’m busy
Okay! Sorry, just have a super exciting surprise for you, bub!
I really do not feeling like talking. I’d rather be left alone.
Oh, alright. Hope everything’s okay! Do you still want to facetime later?
Harry leaves her on read because he doesn’t want to slip up and take out his frustration on her. He’d been known to do that and he didn’t want her to think he was anything but besotted with her.
**
Y/N feels a little hesitant as she begins the uploading process to her channel. The red loading bar told her it’d be twenty-minutes before it’s going to be posted to her 16 million subscribers - one of them being Harry himself.
Twenty-minutes for her to back out and cancel the upload. She starts having doubts about it when Harry never replies to her text which is unlike him.
She takes Rufus out to avoid staring at the loading screen with unnecessary anxiety and uneasiness.
**
Harry is just getting home from a business dinner with the touring company’s management team. The tension and anxiety from today piling up on his shoulders and he just wants to call Y/N and crash in bed.
He tosses his keys in the little bowl in the entry and kicks off his dingy white vans to the side. His phone dings with an alert from Gemma.
You two are the literal cutest ever. It’s quite gross.
Harry slides onto a stool in his kitchen, confused by the text message before she’s sending the link to him.
Fine Line Inspired Cupcakes!
Harry isn’t quite sure why his heart starts pounding furiously in his chest. A sinking feeling in his stomach when he realizes that this was probably the surprise she was excited about.
He clicks on the thumbnail.
“Hiiii, it’s Y/N. Okay, well today we are going to bake some Fine Line inspired cupcakes. And if you haven’t listened to the album - get your ass out from rock you’re living under and stream it on Spotify!”
She has her hair down in long, waves and a loose cropped shirt that says TPWK in rainbow embroidery.
Harrys mouth is dry and he can’t take his fucking eyes away from the screen.
“Soo, I was thinking the first batch would be cherry flavored? ‘Cause he has a song titled ‘Cherry’. Let’s start there. First - I need to find my measuring cups.”
In true Y/N fashion, she scours her kitchen - cussing and yanking stuff out of her neatly organized cabinets before huffing and storming off to the side.
She comes back into view, a little frazzled but smiling when she holds up the ring of plastic measuring spoons, visible bite marks notched into the material.
“My asshole of a dog had a little snack,” Y/N shows the camera before shrugging, “Let’s get this shit started. Okay, you’re going to need one cup of sugar - no wait, two? I can’t read my fucking handwriting.”
Harry’s absolutely enamored by this scatter-brained, giggly girl who manages to produce cute blue and pink cupcakes that very vaguely resembled his album cover. His heart felt a million times too big for his chest.
He was enraptured for the entirety of the thirty minute video without taking his eyes away once.
To be honest, he hadn’t felt this way since his last relationship which was over a year ago at this point.
It’s not even a thought as he’s requesting a FaceTime with Y/N.
She answers after a few rings. She has a green face mask painted on her nose, chin, and forehead with gold eye masks under each eye. She is so fucking ridiculous it’s not even funny.
What is even more ridiculous is how gone Harry is realizing he is for her. She was quirky, unfiltered, carefree. If he was honest - he hadn’t met a girl like that in a very long time - especially a well-known influencer.
“Hi! How was your day, grumpy?” Y/N asks brightly, making a goofy face as the mask begins to tighten and crack on her skin. Not holding the earlier conversation against him and deciding to just move forward. She understood how stressful it can be.
“M’sorry. I was a bit grumpy,” He admits, “I loved your new video, darling. Did you make those just f’me?”
He can tell she’d be blushing if her face wasn’t covered, a bit bashful as she mutters, “You already know I did it for you.”
“You’re too sweet to me, only six days until we meet,” Harry replies, voice taking on a slow, lazy drawl.
“Six days,” Y/N repeats, eyes crinkling as she smiles with excitement.
**
“Is this outfit too much?” Y/N panics. Even though there’s literally nothing she can do about it - they’re already walking towards the backstage entrance of the massive arena. It’s still about two hours until the show starts but Harry requested her to come earlier.
Laney sighs, “For the millionth time, you look fucking sexy and Harry’s going to want to rail you right when he sees you.”
Y/N shoves her lightly with a faux annoyance as they meet up with a burly man who’s blocking the entrance to the backstage hallway and rooms.
She gives him their names and pulls up the passes on her phone before he’s nodding with any expression and letting them pass.
They’re not quite sure where to go from here so they begin to wander down the long hallway toward what looks to be the main area that people are milling about.
Y/N is nearly on the ground when someone rounds the corner without looking and walks right into her. Both of them let out huffs of air as they collide and attempt to stabilize themselves.
But there are large hands grasping her arms and holding her steady. In typical Y/N fashion she’s already cursing, “fuckin like a brick wall, look out next time.”
Then she’s looking up to Harry staring back down at her with an amused expression. He doesn’t let go of her and instead tugs her against his bare chest. He’s warm and a bit sweaty - like he’d just worked out. He was only in a pair of thin, running shorts, nike tennis shoes, and a little clip holding his hair off of his face.
Y/N can’t help but wrap her arms around his waist, returning the embrace and amazed by how right it feels to be in his arms. Her face tucks right against his collarbone and it’s like they’d known each other for years.
Pictures and videos don’t do this man justice. He’s gorgeous - sharp edges and dark inked skin. Tall and muscular but dimples that are carved in his cheeks.
“Nice to meet you, m’Harry,” Harry rumbles, removing one hand from Y/N’s shoulder to reach out his hand to her friend.
Laney shakes his hand before asking, “Laney. I’ll leave you two lovebirds be. Where’s the food?”
Harry chuckles against Y/N’s wavy hair, “Down the hall to the left.”
Laney’s trailing off without another glance, she was very food motivated despite her skinny frame. Also not wanting to intrude of the very personal first moments of their meeting.
The popstar pulls back to look down at the girl he’s fallen for in mere weeks. She’s as beautiful as he thought she'd be - if not more. He can’t help himself, “Would it be too forward to kiss you?”
Y/N smiles widely, running a hand along his jawline, “I’ve wanted you to kiss me since you stayed up on FaceTime with me until two in the morning as I cried after watching The Notebook - despite me seeing it a million times.”
Harry ducks forward to press his lips softly to her, large hands come to cup the side of her face as they connect. He’s so gentle as he moves his mouth against hers. In true Y/N fashion, she’s bold and has no hesitation slipping her tongue into his mouth.
He’s so fucking in love with her. It doesn’t make much sense - it’s definitely not logical but he’s realizing that’s okay.
“Oii, get a room!” Someone shouts from down the hallway teasingly.
Harry flips them the middle finger and pulls back, pink lips swollen and puffy, dimples on full display, “Let me take you out to dinner after the show, darling.”
“You going to wine and dine me, Styles?” Y/N giggles, unable to contain the pleasant warmness he’s spreading through her body.
“Mmm, have t’make sure you’ll want to keep me,” Harry murmurs happily against her lips once again, pressing kiss after kiss to her to make sure she’s real, “Definitely want to keep you.”
Y/N bites teasingly at his bottom lip, hand planted on the soft but firm skin of his stomach, “You’re never getting rid of me, hope you know that.”
“Was hoping you’d say that, now let me introduce you to my band.”
                                  -- ---- ---- -- 1 year later - -- --- --- --
“Hi bitches! Today is a super special day. We have the one, the only Harry Styles filming with us. I know that’s not really that special since he’s on here all the time with me. But we’re celebrating our one year anniversary!” Y/N smiles, bumping hips with Harry who stands dutifully next to her.
Anyone viewing can see the absolute heart-eyes and adoration he has for the girl standing next to him. He’s still as lovestruck and gone for her as he was the first time they met. Harry’s fans were thrilled - for the first time in years, he’d opened up again.
They weren’t very public on social media beside’s tagging each other in memes and posting the occasional picture. Y/N was constantly uploading cooking videos from wherever in the world she was with Harry on his tour, she’d also begin making vlogs about different foods she’s been experiencing.
---
“Okay, so here in Peru - they’re known to have this really fucking spicy beef with noddles. So obviously, I’m going to make Harry try it first,” Y/N laughs as she props the camera up on the side of the table on a napkin holder.
Harry - who has a concert in a few hours - frowns at the steaming dish in front of him, “Darling, I don’t want to try it first. It’s going to burn my mouth. Not gonna be able to sing.”
“You’re sucha baby sometimes,” Y/N rolls her eyes, slurping up the noodles with her fork while making a silly face at her boyfriend. She pulls back, straight-faced, “It’s not hot at all. Tastes amazing, though.”
Harry takes that as an initiative to shovel a spoonful into his mouth. It only takes half a moment until his taste buds erupt in fiery flames from the spices, “You bloody little brat, y’tricked me! It’s so fuckin’ hot!”
Y/N smiles widely, laughing much too loudly in the restaurant when Harry chugs the glass of water next to the plate while glaring at his love. “I’m sorry, s’just to easy with you, lovie,” She replies, leaning over the table to press a kiss to his lips.
He’s a sucker for her and kisses her right back despite his mouth being an inferno. His heart was on fire for her and that burned much more intensely.
---
“No, love. The instructions say baking soda, not baking powder. They’re not the same thing,” Harry sighs, attempting to read her scribbled, sloppy handwriting. She’d already spilled milk on half of the paper.
“S’interchangeable, right?” Y/N hums, cracking an egg into the bowl and Harry automatically knows to look to fish out the eggshells that’d she’d let slip in because she sucks at cracking eggs but always wants to do it.
Harry reaches over her, grabbing the vanilla extract and a teaspoon, “It’s not, baby. Lemme do this real quick.”
“Will you make me a grilled cheese after this?” She asks, nuzzling into his side and wrapping her arms around his waist as he finishes adding the wet ingredients to their bowl. Harry stopped questioning her thought process a long time ago.
Harry swipes his finger into the mixture of icing off to the side and rubs it right onto her nose, cackling at her pout and squeaking when she pinches at the fleshy skin of his hips. She in turn dips her finger into the sugary cream and pops it right into her mouth.
Harry eyes darken, watching her lips purse as she sucks off the icing. It was a dirty move on Y/N’s part and she knows it. It has her boyfriend dragging an icing-covered thumb along her collarbone before leaning down to slowly lick up the sugary trail with his tongue.
When Y/N slides her fingers into his hair and lets out a pretty moan, Harry’s standing back up, trailing over to the tripod and saying into the camera, “We’ll be back after a little commercial break,” and is then turning off the record button.
It takes little to no time for Harry to have Y/N’s bum on the countertop, mouth on her neck, and hand in-between her thighs.
And when they finally posted a very edited final cut of the video - well there may be a couple of fans who notice the how flushed Y/N is halfway through and a lovely purple mark on Harry’s neck that wasn’t there in the beginning of the video.
