Hal is the perfect example of what should be "boys will be boys". He does some dumbassery sometimes, but its always childlike hijinks and not racism, sexism, or any of this -isms and -ists. He stands by his family proudly, loves his wife for her strong and independent self, but is there to care for her like she does for him. He loves his sons and tries his absolute best to give them the best life he can. Everything he does is so pure.

He declines the offer to be the king of the giant muscle men, and only accepts when it is clear it would be enjoyable and beneficial to the giant muscle men.

He understands that he needs to punish Malcolm for the hurtful things he said to Hal, but thinks about the punishment and crafts it perfectly into a good lesson about empathy and the weight words have.

He gets so excited when he learns that reese has something positive that he is really passionate about. He gets really into it and reese ends up being the cook for most meels, at least the important ones like Thanksgiving, and he gets him the things he needs to continue with his passion, like the original cooking class that he got him to try.

Hal is such a great representation of what a man should be.
