・The only time you are ever awake before John, is the morning after he's come back from deployment.
・You let him sleep for as long as possible, as much as you want to wake him and be his complete centre of attention, you don't.
・He looks too peaceful
・And younger; the worry lines are erased from his face, the stress completely dissolved
・You want to kiss him, nibble his ear, nuzzle his neck. Which you do eventually do, however, you wait for him to rouse himself from sleep
・When he looks at the clock, his eyes go wide
"Why didn't you wake me love?"
"Because you needed the sleep!"
"Well, know that I'd rather be sleep-deprived and with you, then asleep. So next time, please wake me."

・Much like his Captain, Simon is always awake before you. Even the morning of his deployment. He doesn't even sleep when he gets back home.
・Just sits on the back porch, mug of tea in his hands and Riley at his feet.
・But when he's been sick, that's when you get the jump on him (no babe not literally)
・He's grouchy and moody. Sure that he's fine and doesn't need help.
・But the downside of looking after him, is that he doesn't want you to catch whatever he has. So no kissing. No cuddling.
・Well, his rules hold up for an hour, before your puppy dog eyes wear him down.
"Fine. C'mere love."
𝑱𝒐𝒉𝒏𝒏𝒚 𝑴𝒂𝒄𝑻𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒔𝒉
Tumblr media
・Ooh this man loves sleeping him.
・You cannot get this man up before 8 AM when he's off deployment (which may seem still early to some but for a soldier - it is a HUGE sleep in)
・Mumbles in his sleep too, so you can just lay there and hear a random story from your unconscious boyfriend
"And then his mask was actually ... just his face," he said with enthusiasm. Eyes closed, than back to snoring.
・It freaked you out at first. But now it's absolutely entertaining. Sometimes you take videos of him and send them to Simon, who always loves receiving them.
・In the morning, you like to snuggle close to Johnny. Your nose touching his. Eyelashes fluttering against his naturally dark ones.
・You love staring at him. You could do it for hours...except, he's start to notice.
"Oi, ye know starin' is considered creepy-"
𝑲𝒚𝒍𝒆 𝑮𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌
Tumblr media
・Does love a good sleep in
・Especially with you in his arms, his face in the crook of your neck.
・When you feel a stir behind you, you're sure to grab the arm closest to you and secure it around you
・You hear a laugh behind you, but no resistance
"Thought you were asleep love."
"Hmm, thought you were too. Now scoot closer, you're letting the cold in."
・Luckily he can't see him rolling his eyes. Although, there is a small smirk on his lips
"Whatever you say, my darling."
"Watch your tone, Garrick."
𝑲𝒐̈𝒏𝒊𝒈
Tumblr media
・Loves kisses, especially on his shoulders. It makes him giddy inside.
・Sometimes he'll just pretend to be asleep so you can wake him up with kisses
・Other times, he can't stay in bed. He needs to pee.
・And as much as he wants to be quiet, he cannot. Whenever he wakes up, ultimately you wake up as well.
・Your personal heater is gone and you feel the chill near instantly
"Oh, es tut mir leid, Schatz, geh wieder ins Bett" (Oh, I'm sorry honey, go back to bed)
"No, I'll just have a tea and sit on the lounge. Will you join me?"
𝑨𝒍𝒆𝒋𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒐 𝑽𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒔
Tumblr media
・Surprisingly, he's one to always be awake before you.
・Giving you a kiss before going downstairs to start on breakfast for the two of you.
・It's annoying when you do want to wake up before him, to take on the chores that he usually does.
・You even set an alarm underneath your pillow so that you could wake up before him.
・But you slept through the first alarm and he was the one to turn it off.
・Yet, whenever you do wake up, you immediately throw back the blankets and run downstairs to jump in his arms.
"Mi amor, what are you doing up?"
"I wanted to be close to you! I missed you."
"Aw, Calientas mi corazon querida" (You warm my heart, darling)
𝑲𝒆𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒏 𝑹𝒖𝒔𝒔
Tumblr media
・Likes sleeping in but can't unless you're with him
・So you usually just flip over and land on top of him, knowing he was in the process of waking up anyway
"You comfortable there, kid?"
・His voice groggy and deep, a hand snaking it's way around your waist to keep you still
"The most comfortable," you said, scrunching your nose and giving him a peck on the mouth
"You comfortable?" You said sweetly, making sure to keep all your weight directly upon him.
"Incredibly," he said with a slight wheeze. But he didn't move, nor made a thought to. He loved the feeling of you so close.
・Knowing that he made it home again. To you.

Please be careful
Pairing: Hockey!James Potter x fem!reader
Summary: James gets injured during one of his hockey games and he's desperate to see you
Warnings: angsty, fluff, use of pet names, use of y/n, mentions of concussion, hospitals...
Words: 0.9k
----------------------------------------------------
It was supposed to be a normal, regular hockey game with James as the captain for the game. And you,  unfortunately, couldn't attend it, so you were hoping for a happy phone call from James.
Instead, you get a phone call from Remus and you instantly know, that something is wrong.
But you don't expect it to be that bad. Apparently, James got slammed into the boards by another player. Though, that's not unusual for hockey games, you've seen James get boarded plenty of times.
But James's helmet was not tightened properly and as he got pushed into the boards, it slipped off of his head, meaning James bumped his head hard.
James is stable, he has a pretty bad concussion and keeps loosing his consciousness, but he is stable.
You try not to panic, as you listen to Remus explain. But it's hard not to. You don't know, what you'd do If something happened to him.
You will those scary, irrational thoughts away and rush to the hospital. When you get there, Remus is waiting for you outside.
You immediately go give him a tight hug.
"How's he?" you ask with a worry, while you quickly follow him towards James's door.
"He's okay, still disoriented. But okay,  he's got some painkillers for the headache, so keeps falling asleep," Remus reassures you, he would feel the same panic, you feel right now, if it wasn't for Sirius being by his side the whole time.
"He's been constantly asking for you, you know," Remus adds with a smile, "like every single time he wakes up, it's your name he says first."
"Really?" you smile at him back, it lifts your mood up a little, hearing that James's been asking for you.
"Yeah, really. Now c'mon, let's go inside. I know, there's at least one person in there that can't wait to see you," Remus means James, but also Sirius.
Sirius may seem like he's a really tough guy, when in fact he is actually the biggest softie. He instantly goes to hug you, too.
Another fact about Sirius is that, he gives bone-crushing hugs, that leave you almost aching. You can't say you hate them, they are comforting. So his tight hug is exactly, what you need, to calm your racing heart completely.
When you pull away, your gaze lands on James's lying figure. He looks almost the same as he usually does sleeping, except for the quite big gash over his forehead.
You go sit in the chair next to his bed. "Hi, Jamie," you whisper, as you take his hand into both of yours," you scared the shit out of me."
You chuckle quietly and wipe away, the one tear that escapes from your eye. You lift James hand up to your lips and kiss the back of it, letting out a huge sigh of relief.
The guys leave you alone with James to go get something to eat, which you are thankful for. Because you can finally get a minute only just for yourself to breath it all through.
With your eyes closed as you take one big breath in after another, you don't notice James's eyelids opening.
That cheeky bastard, stays quiet for a few minutes, just looking at you and smiling happily to himself. He's over the moon, that you are finally there.
"H-hi, my love," he croaks out with a groggy voice from the sleep.
Your eyes shoot open, widening when you see him smiling at you," James!"
"You're awake...How are you feeling? Does it hurt? Is your head spinning?Do you need some more painkiller...-?" you stress, but James interrupts you.
"Lovely....-" he starts, but you ignore it.
"Or-or should I go get some nurse?" you ask him nervously, already getting up to leave.
"Y/N," he says your name to finally get your attention.
"Yeah, Jamie?"
"Just breath, yeah?" he squeezes your hand, " I'm perfectly okay, now that you're hear." He knows, he must have scared you pretty badly. I mean, he was a bit scared himself to be honest.
You do as he tells you and make your worrying stop," a-are you sure, you don't need anything?"
"Actually, there's one thing," he says, cheeky smile already painting his bruised handsome face.
"Anything...."
"I could really, really use a hug from my best girl, right now," you hesitate for a second, not wanting to hurt him any more, then he already is.
But James has none of it, he pulls you by your hands towards him, basically pulling you into his lap.
"James!" you giggle at his action, but finally close to him, you give in. You tightly embrace him, hiding your face into his chest.
"I thought, we'd agreed, that no injuries for you," you mumble into his chest. Your heart still goes fast from the worry and you're pretty sure that James knows, because his hold on you tightens a bit.
"I know, I'm sorry pretty. I'm so sorry, I scared you," James mumbles back and kisses you on the top of your head. He shouldn't have done that, because his head starts to spin from bending down to kiss you. He doesn't tell you that, though.
"It's okay, I know it wasn't your fault. But please be more careful next time?" you ask innocently, rubbing your hand up and down his back.
"I'll try," James promises.
"Good."
"Good." You stay quiet for a longer moment, just processing that James's really okay. Even if he's a bit bruised.
"I love you, you know that?" James whispers lovingly.
"Of course, I know. I love you, too."
You stay cuddled up on James's bed, until the nurse comes and looks at you two very sternly, which has you climbing off of him and the bed in a matter of seconds.

Hello! Let me just say that i adore the way your write!! It’s so amazing🥰 Can i request something (however you want to write it really) where the character wakes reader up to ask them if reader loves them?
That was a terrible explanation i’m so sorry lol
I’d love if it could be with Kakashi, Jiraiya and Madara 🥰🫶 (or any characters you want)
Thank you so much!🥹🫶🏾💗😘
No warnings, Purely fluff, a small itty tiny bit angst, but just a small little bit I promise.
🌸Kakashi🌸
Tumblr media
Kakashi doesn’t often stay asleep throughout the night, having you beside him in the nighttime drastically reduces the amount of nightmares he has, but unfortunately, he still has those nights where he wakes up sweating, too shook to actually fall asleep again. This time around though, he has you to watch over, so he’s not shaken up for too long, holding your body close to his as he watches you sleep peacefully, the warmth of your weight against him and your steady breathing quickly relaxing him. All this and maybe a book in his hands is a great opportunity for him to spend some time alone. When you begin stirring in your sleep he freezes, trying his best to not wake you up, but even while you’re sleeping, you shift up the bed to hug him, nuzzling your face against his neck, inhaling his addictive scent. At this point he has completely forgotten about the nightmare that woke him up, genuinely grateful for your presence in his life.
He realizes that even though he’s lost too many dearly loved ones, today, in this moment, he has you and in this moment, even though you are asleep against him, you still manage to comfort him, drawing his attention to this very moment. His heart begins to beat faster, Kakashi biting his lip as he tries to push away th intrusive thoughts of maybe losing you too. He can’t help himself, panic motivating his next action, slowly nodding your arm with his hand, his heart beating faster when you don’t wake up. He can’t fight the paranoia sometimes, now attempting to sit upright to try and disturb hour sleep, hoping you’d wake up. “Baby”, he calls, “Hey…Y/n, baby…wake up please”, he softly calls, finally able to release the breath he held in waiting for you to respond. Tonight is a difficult night for him, but he seemed to forget that you’re here, and that you will always be here, you’ll never leave his side. “Mmhmm?”, you sleepily respond, drifting in between reality and your dreams, hearing someone call your name. “Baby, wake up please”, he calls again, hope filling his heart when he sees your eyes finally open. “Y/n. Baby…are you awake? I’m sorry, wake up please”, he says, waiting for you to get up. “Hey babe, what’s up?”, you ask confused, trying to shake away the sleep. “Hey, is everything okay?’, you ask, rubbing your eyes while giving him a few pecks against his neck and cheek. He already feels silly for worrying so much. “Uhm”, he says, clearing thought, worried that you’d be annoyed for being woken up unnecessarily. “I’m sorry for disturbing your sleep, I’ll make it up to you i promise”, he hurriedly says and you can hear him swallow, finally noticing the dampness of his shirt, quickly sobering up at the realization that he could’ve had another nightmare.
“Kashi, its okay”, you say lovingly, cupping his cheek in the palm for your warm hand. “It’s always okay, are you okay? Did you have another nightmare?’, you worriedly ask, sitting up on your knees to straddle his lap. Feeling a little guilty for even thinking if asking you this, he looks down in shame, and you can feel his face drop in your palm. Gently lifting his head up you place the softest kiss he’s ever share with you yet on his lips, and you feel something wet against your thumb. “Oh sweetheart, what’s the matter?”, you ask after noticing the tear that fell down his cheek. “I was just scared”, he admits, failing to drop his head low again since you held his face firm in the palms of your hands. “What is it love? Another nightmare?”, and Kakashi slowly nods. You gasp, your hand reaching the back of his head to pull him into you, holding him close, wrapping you arms around him. surrounded by your scent, he feels so safe, is voice shaky as he asks the next question. “You still love me?, a small chuckle leaving his lips to mask his feelings. But you knew him like the back of your hand, holding him tighter. “I’ve loved you for as long as I’ve known you, and I’ll continue to love you no matter what”, you say, separating yourself from him to palm his cheeks again, “Kakashi, you’re the love of my life, you don’t ever have to doubt that okay?”. Placing another soft kiss against his lips, you feel him squeeze you tighter. “I promise I’ll never leave you, ever”. Kakashi wonders why he entertained any of those intrusive thoughts to begin with, of course you love him. “I love you so much”, he says, his words muffled against your neck, but you hear his word loud and clearly, the two of you embracing one another until you feel Kakashi doze off in your arms. The cutest big baby.
🌸Jiraiya🌸
Tumblr media
Jiraiya constantly wonders how on earth a man like him was gifted with such a kind hearted, loving partner. A pervert who didn’t even think it capable of loving one person, but here he is, holding on to the love of his life, your hand loosely wrapped around a few of his fingers, Jiraiya smiling at just how precious you arm. Needing to use the bathroom, he ever so carefully creeps out of bed, but no, its not to cheat this time, no not with you, he left that life behind, its just to use the bathroom, the intense urge to be back in bed beside you exciting him so much it kind of scared him. After using the toilet, he stood in front of the mirror, staring at his reflection. A strong sense of shame washed over him, thoughts of unworthiness saddening him once again. How exactly is he supposed to deal with all this love? A love so graceful he wondered if he truly deserved it.
How can she love you, you womanizing son of a b—, “No, she does love me…”, he spoke aloud, refusing to let any negative thoughts occupy his head any further. “And I’m not a womanizer.”, he added, looking down in shame, trying to convince himself he was right. No matter how hard he tried to fight himself, he just couldn’t stop. No one ever bothered loving him, i mean how could they when he was always onto the next, but maybe change is true. Man can change, he reminded himself, his eyes shut to try and center himself. But the more he tried to block it out the more doubtful he became. Was someone pranking him? All those of years of playing with peoples hearts had to have finally come to bite him in the butt right?
He couldn’t hold back any longer, he needed answers. Why?, Why does he deserve a chance at love, especially with someone like you. He desperately needed to know, turning off the bathroom light to make his way to your shared bed. Uncertainty eating him from the inside out, he decided to gently wake you up, his large frame spooning you from the front, placing gentle kisses on your face as he called your name. “Princess, wake up, wake up”. He is so nervous, the sound of his rapidly beating heart loud in in his, so loud he can no longer handle it, he just needs you to tell him. “Y/n, cmon, wake up”, which you finally do, not sure if you just heard Jiraiya whining in your ear or if you were dreaming…the latter making more sense, until you hear him open his mouth again. “So…you’re awake now?”, he impatiently asks, still gently nudging your arm. “Yes baba, I’m awake, are you okay?”, you yawn, stretching out a little before you scoot closer to him, happy to feel his warmth surround you once again. “Baby, I’m okay yes. Uh…are you?”, “Mmhmm?”, is all you say, burying your head in his chest to find some sleep agin, and just when you fly yourself drifting off again, he finally asks, “Do you really love me?”, his voice so low he wonders if you actually heard him, but you certainly did, smiling to yourself before wrapping a arm around him, placing small kisses against his neck. “Nothing matters to me more than you Jiraiya, I love you so much baba!”, your words soft and genuine, Jiraiya’s denial subsiding, gently squeezing you and placing kisses on your forehead. “Will you always love me?”, he asks, a small chuckle leaving your mouth over how whiny he came across, so out of character. “I don’t ever want to stop, loving you everyday makes me so happy” and with that Jiraiya could go on another day confident that he is loved.
🌸Madara🌸
Tumblr media
Honestly, Madara just wants attention, he’s such an attention seeker that he’s willing to disturb your sleep if he’s bored enough, or sometimes just because its fun. I mean, he knows you love him, if anything he’d be confused if you didn’t, after all, he genuinely believes he’s the whole package and that you’re truly lucky to have him, but even so, there might be a teeny tiny bit of doubt in his heart sometimes. He will wake you up anyway, just because he can, its something you do too when you want cuddles, so he wants to have his turn tonight.
“Hey sweetheart”, he softly calls, rubbing your back as you lay on top of him. “Princess, its time to wake up”, he says, placing his hands on your underarms to effortlessly lift you up, your upper body dangling above him while he gently shakes you like a baby, which does the trick, your body jerking as you wake up from the feeling of falling, your arms flaying everywhere when you opened your eyes and realized you were not laying on anything. “Relax babe!”, Madara chuckles, gently lowering you to lay on top of him again. You immediately sit up on your elbows, your arms on each side of him as your stare him down, easily finding his blood red irises in the darkness of your room. “Babyyy that’s not funny!”, you whine, your husband still laughing at you, his pupils still spinning, recording the entire thing. “Heey”, you softly yell, biting your lips to try and hold yourself back from laughing, but his laugh was so contagious you just couldn’t, annoyed that you couldn’t be serious about this. “Babbbyyy!”, you giggle, lightly slapping his chest, his large hand cupping your cheek, as he slightly lifts himself up to plant a kiss against your lips. “I’m sorry princess, I didn’t mean to startle you like that”, his voice calm and deep, so soothing you felt like you could forgive him, leaning forward for another soft kiss, your lips simply pressing against his before parting. You could kiss him like that forever. “Why are you awake? And why did you wake me up?”, you question, your eyes almost closing as his hand now moved to the back of your head, massaging your scalp as you spoke. “I just wanted to know something”, he says, delaying the reason, making you impatiently whine, “Uh uh, i wont tell you why I woke you up if you whine like that”, he teases, “okay then goodnight”, you respond, laying down on his chest. “Okay okay wait”, he huffs, annoyed that you won.
“I, just wanted to ask if you love me?”, he asks, manipulating his voice to sound all innocent and cute, making you roll your eyes as you giggle. “I should be asking you that since you woke me up like that baby, but how can i not love my attention seeking little baby’, you tease, planting small kisses on is lips, making him smile. “Hey I’m not an attention seeker”, he says, lightly smacking you butt, a giggle escaping you lips. “Says the guy who woke me up to ask if i love him, even though I told you I love you a million times before we went to bed”, you yawn, snuggling into him once again, Madara lifting the blankets up to cover you. “Whatever princess, I love you okay?’, he says, wrapping his arms around you, smiling at your response and you quickly dosed off. “I love you so much”

pair: jungwon x gn!reader | genre: fluff, f2?? | warning(s): alcohol consumption | wc: 1k | synopsis: even alcohol can’t seem to stop how he feels about you.
lynne’s notez🗒️: happy jungwon day!! i love him ur honor
Tumblr media
yang jungwon doesn’t like drinking.
he hates the feeling of losing control. but ever since he’s turned twenty, it seems to be all he’s doing. to celebrate a success or to simply have fun, jungwon only participates the tiniest bit.
but tonight it’s different. maybe it’s the atmosphere pulling him in, telling him to let go for once. or maybe it’s niki and jake chanting for him to chug it. maybe it’s sunoo shaking his head and discouraging them.
or maybe it’s you. you’re sat from across from him, smiling your pretty smile. you nod along with the chants, not particularly pushing him to. you didn’t attend the outgoings often with boys, but whenever you did, jungwon filled with hope. maybe you’d finally recognize his romantic advances towards you.
tonight, you look too pretty for him not to notice. he gives extra attention to the words you say and makes sure you have plenty to eat. god, when did he become so invested in this tiny crush?
he doesn’t know what comes over him, but jungwon downs the soju like it doesn’t burn his throat — although it does — and the table erupts with cheers. he doesn’t remember exactly what happens next, but just heeseung pouring him another and whispering “don’t feel like you have too, won,” along with a pat on the back.
two hours later and jungwon is slumped over the table, eyes attempting to stay awake and his breath reeking of alcohol. the table was nearly empty, just niki passed out on the far right corner and heeseung calling someone over to pay the bill. and you, taking out your wallet to pay heeseung back.
“it’s fine yn, it’s on me.” heeseung smiles, pushing away your money even though you really insisted. “it’s really okay, i just need someone to get jungwon home safely. do you mind?”
“of course,” you say, putting away your wallet. you thank heeseung for the meal and make your way to jungwon who’s half asleep and can barely sit up properly. you tap him on the shoulder and he jolts awake, curious eyes looking for who had awoken him.
“ready to go?” you ask, offering your hand out. jungwon nods sleepily and doesn’t hesitate to put his hand in yours, immediately lifting himself up. his hand lingers on yours for a second before he lets go shyly.
“where are we going?” he asks as you lead him to your car, your hand reaching for your keys.
“home.” you reply, opening up the car door. jungwon clambers into the seat, tugging at the seatbelt which he can’t get to just work. you sigh softly, reaching out to help him. your hands hover just above his and he lets you take over, strapping him in. the closeness between the two of you is driving him crazy and he can smell the sweetness of your shampoo.
once the two of you are on the road, the silence settles in. it isn’t uncomfortable or awkward, just a bit quiet. jungwon steals glances at you, admiring how you look from the side. of course, he only does this when you aren’t looking. as soon as you are, he’s looking away, cheeks tinted pink.
your car pulls up to his dorms and jungwon feels the car ride was a little to short for his liking. his time with you is coming to an end. he can hear you turn the car key and with a click, the car engine dies down. now it truly is just the two of you.
“do you need help getting inside?” you ask politely. “jungwon?” you emphasize his name and he looks at you expectantly.
“did you know lightning comes before thunder? the light travels at 300,000,000 meters per second, which is a lot faster than sound.” jungwon spouts nervously, his hands coming together to play with each other.
your brows crease together and you let out a small laugh. “i’ll make note of it, won.”
“i actually don’t care about the speed of lightning or thunder. i care about you. i think about you lot. i’m not sure how to put it because i’ve never felt this way before.” jungwon thinks it’s the alcohol that makes him so bold but you don’t stop him so he continues. “and i feel like i’m being driven to insanity just trying to figure out how to bump into you casually. god, i can’t even remember when anything i did didn’t revolve around you.” he finishes breathlessly and looks at you.
you gulp unsurely, “jungwon, you’re drunk.” you say matter of factly.
“i know. but i just wanted to let you know.” he says and gets out of the car, fumbling to close the car door properly. jungwon feels the immediate impact of the cold wind when he steps out and immediately regrets not wearing a thicker jacket.
he drags his feet against the pavement and to his doorstep, shoulders slumped in your rejection towards his advancements. he lets out a small huff, absentmindedly reaching for his dorm keys.
the sound of your car door opening isn’t enough for jungwon to turn around, so he continues his walk of shame.
“hey— jungwon, wait!” you catch up to him, reaching for his shoulder. you gently turn him around and his tired, cat-like eyes open wide at the contact, only softening once he sees that it’s you. “here,” you say, reaching for his hand. his hand unclasps slowly and you drop his keys, touching his palm briefly.
there’s a moment where time slows and you feel as if the world decelerates just for you and him. you take him in, the quiet wind sifting through his hair and there’s a subtle pink dusted across his cheeks. he looks sweet, standing there with his mouth partly open as he stares back at you.
“thank you,” jungwon lets go of a breath and stills for a second.
“i like you too—“ you blurt out suddenly. a boyish grin breaks out across jungwon’s face and his dimples appear, residing deep in his cheeks.
something swells in your heart as jungwon steps closer to you, smelling of alcohol and sweet laundry detergent. “i would like to kiss you, but i’m drunk.” he states with a disappointed tone, though a smile remains on his face.
“i’ll remind you tomorrow then.” you reassure him, stepping closer.
“i can’t wait to be reminded.” he wraps his arms around you with his hands lingering around your waist, holding you closely. jungwon’s heart is hammering loudly once he lets go of you (regardless of how reluctant he is).
“goodnight jungwon.” you smile faintly, stepping back as jungwon finally opens his front door. he’s hesitant to leave but you usher him inside, encouraging him to get some sleep.
“goodnight yn,” jungwon giggles, disappearing behind the door.
you grin the whole way home.

CW: broken bones and blood
Many thanks to Elle Periwinklemoonlight for giving me several ideas for this chapter, and Mochi for helping me with some of Mumbo's dialogue <3
Tumblr media
Mumbo had always liked sunsets.
He'd never been that big a fan of sunrises. Don't get him wrong, they were pretty and all! But the only times he had been awake to see the sun rise at all was when he had been up all night working on some sort of contraption. The early morning light had forced its way through any crack it could find and pulled Mumbo's attention away from his work, alerting him to the fact that he'd lost track of time and was about to have a very bad day.
(Look, his stomach was sensitive! If he didn't get enough sleep, he'd get all nauseous and lose his appetite the next day. One would think that would be enough of a reason to not stay up all night, but there was a difference between being smart and making smart decisions.)
Anyway! Where was he? Oh, right. The sun. Fascinating thing, really. Some might even call it essential! Most people would, actually. Mumbo certainly did.
Sunrises had always been something Mumbo only saw every once in a while, and dreaded every time. The first rays of light peeking over the mountains were a taunting reminder of one's folly. And with the rise of the sun came the song of the birds, declaring in their high pitched tremolo that it was time to wake up and go about one's day.
Scar had asked Grian what the birds were saying once, over their lovely lunch which was actually just breakfast for the late risers. Grian had given him the most deadpan stare Mumbo had ever witnessed (and that was saying something– he'd known Doc, after all). “Just because I'm an avian doesn't mean I can understand the birds, Scar.”
Scar frowned, giving Grian a confused look. “You can't lie to me! I just heard you talking to the chickens, mister.”
Grian's look became much more pointed. “What chickens, Scar?” he asked sweetly, in the tone that held threats hidden under the surface.
Scar's eyes widened almost comically as he immediately tried to backtrack. “Oh! No! Nooo, no chickens here. None at all! What chickens? I've never seen a chicken. Ever.” He looked over at Mumbo, before leaning forward and stage-whispering to Grian, “I think I fooled him.”
Mumbo had chuckled nervously, scratching the back of his neck. “Scar, I'm sitting right next to you,” he pointed out.
Scar blinked. “Oh. Well! Nonexistent chickens aside, Grian, you still haven't told us what the birds are saying.”
Grian had stared at Scar in silence for a full five seconds before sighing deeply. “They're laughing at me for not getting enough sleep to deal with this.”
“See!” Scar smiled triumphantly, looking over at Mumbo. “I told you he could talk to birds!”
“Pretty sure he's just lying, mate.”
Grian lazily waved his spoon in the air. “I don't know what you're talking about, Mumbo. I never lie.”
Scar's eyes shone. “Now, if my time as a businessman has taught me anything, it's to tell when someone is lying. And that, my dear Grian, was a big ol' lie.”
Grian's eyes narrowed, almost imperceptibly. “I'm going to bite you.”
“That's a lie!”
Grian then lunged across the table and tackled Scar to the ground. Mumbo shrieked, nearly falling off the bench with them. “Oh, goodness, don’t break the man, G!”
Grian didn’t even have a chance– Scar pinned him to the ground with a triumphant whoop, laughing as Grian squawked and flapped his wings helplessly. “I win! Haha! You are not immune to the good times!”
“What does that even mean?” Grian shot back, unable to stop himself from laughing. “Scar, get off me!”
Scar stood, brushing the dirt off of his pants. “Aww, G, now I’m all dusty! Dusty and sweaty! Eugh!” He moved to take his shirt off, and Grian shrieked.
“Scar!” Grian shot up and smacked Scar’s hand. “Put your clothes back on!”
Scar whined, pouting slightly. “C’mon, G! I didn’t even take anything off”
Mumbo groaned, putting his head in his hands. “I miss Impulse and Pearl.”
Sunsets were different.
Mumbo… didn’t really know how to describe it. In the same kind of way people liked going to bed more than they liked waking up, Mumbo enjoyed sunsets far more than he did sunrises. Sunsets were calm, whereas sunrises were frantic, harried. They were a declaration of the day ending, and that rest would come soon. They were an end to the scorching hot temperatures of the summer and a prelude to the cool kiss of the night’s breeze against his face. Not to get all poetic and everything, but they just were nicer.
He enjoyed how the sky would be painted in oranges and pinks and purples, and how slowly the knights would gather together on the more clear nights to sit under the stars and talk. He enjoyed how in those moments they were all at peace and happy, and how they cared so deeply for each other it felt less like a group of friends and more like…
Family.
That’s what it was.
Sunsets reminded him of family.
Not this sunset, though.
As the sun slowly set, and shadows grew to cover the whole land, Mumbo felt… different. As he rode alongside his fellow knights (his friends, his family), he couldn’t shake the feeling of urgency that usually accompanied the rising of the sun, rather than the fall. This sunset was not something of love and rest.
This sunset felt like a warning.
They were running out of time. As the clock ticked, as the sand fell through the hourglass, a sense of impending doom settled over each one of the knights. Mumbo, in his often anxiety ridden state, was no stranger to the feeling that sat tight in his chest and caused his heart to race, tearing air from his lungs in sharp gasps.
Scar, riding near him, glanced over and saw the poorly concealed panic on the man’s face. Urging his horse closer, he got Mumbo’s attention with a soft ‘psst!’
Mumbo startled, torn from his thoughts as he so often was. He met Scar’s gaze and gave him a nervous, half-hearted smile. Scar could, most likely, see past any pretense he was putting up. The man was good at what he did– good at reading people, good at looking for certain nonverbal clues that cued him into what the person was actually thinking. “Hey, Scar.”
Scar reached out, holding the reins in one hand as he gave Mumbo a pat on the shoulder. “You doin’ good? You’re not looking so hot.”
Mumbo sighed, looking away. “I’m… I dunno, Scar. I just… goodness. This whole thing is so… it’s overwhelming, Scar. What are we even supposed to do?” He laughed, a tense sound. “It’s– it’s just… it’s not something we can just… it’s not simple, Scar. We can’t just solve it with some redstone, or some crazy invention– this is so big. And I don’t– I don’t know how to fix it.”
Scar pressed his lips together into a thin line. The setting sun cast long shadows over his face, the little light remaining creating dappled patterns on his skin as it filtered in through the trees. He thought for a moment before speaking. “Mumbo, you don’t have to know how to fix everything. You know that, right?”
Mumbo let out a strained laugh, his grip on the reins tightening slightly. “Well, Scar, mate, isn’t that kind of… my job? You know, brilliant redstone inventor over here, coming up with solutions is my whole thing. It’s not like I could… well, I have to make up for my lack of physical prowess somehow.”
Scar shook his head, chuckling softly. “Oh, Mumbo, Mumbo, Mumbo. I’ve been there! I get you, I really do. You know, back in the day, I had a bit of a job myself. I was a businessman, Mumbo Jumbo! And a very good one at that. And my job was to sell things to customers! And…” he frowned, cutting himself off sharply. “I don’t know where I’m going with this. Man, Cub’s so much better at this than me.”
Mumbo felt himself relaxing slightly, the tension slowly being let out of his body. He smiled, giving Scar a half-shrug. “Cub has a lot of skill, that’s for sure. Plenty of experience to go along with it, as well.”
Scar nodded, and let silence fall over them for a moment before taking in a deep breath. “So, Mumbo, what I was trying to say… I guess, you don’t need to solve everything? I mean, none of us have any clue what we’re doing. Kinda.” He thought for a moment. “That’s not it. What I’m really trying to say is that we’re all in this together? It’s not your job specifically to figure it out alone. Impulse is our friend, and… we all really care for him.” His voice trembled slightly as he finished, eyes darkening. “I hope he’s safe.”
Mumbo furrowed his brows, concern shining in his eyes as he looked over at Scar. “You doing alright, mate?” This whole thing had been hard on all of them, but something seemed… off… about Scar.
Scar blinked, and shook himself out of whatever sort of trance he had been in with a slight jerk of his head. “Oh! Yes, don’t you worry, mister. I’m doin’ just fine over here! Just thinking about the scolding I’m gonna give Impulse when we get back home.” He flashed Mumbo a bright smile, and Mumbo let it rest.
He knew that smile was forced. He knew when the cheerful persona of Scar’s came out to play. He knew, and yet… what could he do? Mumbo wasn’t good with words. He was probably the worst out of the knights when it came to social interaction, and that was saying something given they were practically hermits outside of the occasional job they’d pick up and shopping trips.
So Mumbo did what he did best.
He let his body go on autopilot, and got lost in his thoughts.
At the front of the group, Grian and Pearl were talking in hushed voices. Grian remained stubbornly in his watcher form, despite Pearl’s insistence on taking a break and letting his eyes rest. He’d given her a look, feathers rustling irritably as she spoke. “Stop nagging me, Pearl. Gosh, you’re starting to sound like Timmy.”
She let out an indignant sound, glaring at him. “I am not! And it’s not nagging, mate, you’re going to give yourself a headache with all that looking!”
Grian scoffed, looking away. “It’s called watching, thank you very much. And you’re the one who’s gonna give me a headache, with all your talking! I know what I’m doing Pearl, I’m not a baby.”
“Well, you’re acting like one,” Pearl shot back. “I’m right here, Griba. You don’t have to be hyper vigilant, or whatever it is you’re doing.”
“And what happens if I don’t?” Grian snapped, his voice dropping slightly. “What happens if I lose sight of the demon and Impulse, what if–?” he cut himself off, taking a deep breath, “Pearl, I need this,” he admitted, voice low. “If I don’t keep my focus on this, I think I’ll go crazy, Pearl. I’ll get all… you know me, Pearl.” Desperation seeped into his voice. “I don’t– it doesn’t matter if I get a headache or strain myself or, anything, really! But I can’t…”
Pearl sighed. “I know. I know, Griba. I’m just worried. About you, about Impulse, about this whole Watcher thing, about… well, everything. It’s just such a big mess, y’know? And we’re all tangled up in this big web and…” She laughed, shaking her head. “It’s pretty overwhelming. Just… we gotta also take care of ourselves, mate. We won’t be able to do anything if we run ourselves ragged before we even get to Impulse.”
Whatever Grian was going to say in response was interrupted by the sound of rattling bones and an arrow flying right by his head, narrowly missing. He shrieked, wings flaring out as the horse beneath him startled. He grabbed the reins and pulled back, stopping the horse from bolting, though it still took a few steps forward.
“Skeleton!” Pearl called out, though the announcement was unneeded. “Stay on your guard!”
The undead’s bones creaked as it came into view, appearing from under the trees. Normally, along more well-traveled paths, the surrounding areas would be lit up enough to stop the mobs from spawning, and the frequent patrols would be enough to discourage them from wandering too close. Unfortunately for the knights, they were traveling through an uninhabited area with no path in sight. They could handle the mobs just fine, but it certainly made traveling a little more difficult.
Scar drew his crossbow, fingers brushing over the enchantments carved into the material, and nocked a bolt. “I got it!” He drew the bolt back and fired, the skeleton collapsing into a pile of bones with a rattling groan. “Yes! Hotguy strikes again!”
Grian would’ve rolled his eyes if he could. “You and that Hotguy thing, I swear…” His feathers began to settle back down, and he folded his wings behind his back. “Right, then. That’s probably our cue to stop for the night.”
“We’re stopping?” Mumbo asked, slightly confused. “Why?”
Pearl sighed, dismounting. She gently stroked her horse’s neck before answering Mumbo. “As much as we’d love to get to Impulse as soon as possible, we can’t be riding through the night. The horses are tired, and we need time to rest and recuperate as well. I…” She looked over at Grian, watching him dismount as well. “I don’t want to stop. I really don’t. But we have to.”
Scar nodded. “Makes sense! Gotta be our best selves if we’re gonna deal with that demon guy!” He dismounted, Mumbo following a moment later. “Mumbo and I can go light up some of the surrounding area while you two make a fire and deal with the horses?” he suggested.
“Good idea. You have those…” Pearl gestured vaguely with her hand, trying to think of the word. “...magic torches? The fancy ones, so ya don’t burn down the whole forest?”
“I never leave home without them!” Scar grabbed Mumbo’s arm. “Come on, Mumble Jumble, time to light up this forest!”
Mumbo yelped as he got dragged away, casting one last terrified glance at Grian and Pearl before disappearing into the woods with Scar.
“I swear,” Pearl chuckled as she dealt with the horses, “he never loses energy. I’ve rarely ever seen that man get tired.”
Grian busied himself with clearing a small area for a campfire, using his bird-like feet to help dig up the grass. “Scar’s… definitely something,” he agreed, shaking the dirt off his talons before hopping (not walking– hopping) awkwardly over to a tree, his wings flapping slightly to help balance him. He began to snap some smaller branches and twigs, gathering them in his arms. “Dunno what we’d do without him. Without any of them.”
Pearl smiled sadly, giving one of the horses a soft pat before walking over to help Grian with his task. “Barely feels like any time’s passed at all, yeah? Since we first met in that old town.”
Grian laughed at the memory, shaking his head. “You’d just crashed into the ground. Still had no clue how to use those wings of yours.” He glanced at the colourful moth wings that were folded delicately behind Pearl’s back.
She was scared, Grian could tell. Wide eyes that were the same blue of a storm-promising sky and filled with barely held back tears. She was scraped up and bruised from her fall, the wings trailing behind her seeming unnatural and unwieldy.
Grian didn’t ask questions. She needed help, and that was all he needed to know.
Later, he would hear stories of feathered golden wings, carrying Pearl through the sky alongside her flock. He would listen in from behind a door that hadn’t been completely shut as she told Jimmy what it was like to soar high above endless fields of sunflowers and wheat, racing her flockmates at speeds she would never again be able to achieve.
Grian and Jimmy had lost their flock when they were young. It was no wonder that Jimmy was interested in Pearl’s memories of her flock, who had treated her with kindness and love. Flockless avians were often unable to defend themselves and died without the protection a flock was supposed to provide.
Jimmy and Grian had been lucky enough to find an old town nearby, with inhabitants who were more than willing to let them in. They’d made a life for themselves there, when Pearl had come crashing into their lives.
“I broke my leg,” Pearl recalled, wincing slightly at the bittersweet memory. “And you and Tim helped patch me back up. And then I just never left.”
“I’ve cursed that day ever since,” Grian joked, yelping when Pearl elbowed him. “Hey! Not cool!” he squawked as Pearl giggled softly. “I wonder how Tim’s doing right now,” he added after a moment. “Do you think he misses us?”
Pearl raised her eyebrows. “Grian, we do visit him. He’s doing just fine, you saw for yourself. Got a whole new bunch of friends and everything!” She examined Grian’s face. “Oh, you’re not upset he didn’t join us, are you?” she teased lightly. “You know Jimmy would hate the outdoorsy life we’ve got going on. He’s perfectly comfortable where he is.”
Grian sighed, turning and hopping back to the area he’d prepared for their fire, beginning to place the sticks down. “Can you grab some rocks?” he asked, “I hate not being able to fly. Walking is so hard.”
Pearl laughed, setting her sticks down near Grian before starting to search for smaller rocks. “You do look cute though, hopping around like a little birdie. Oh, don’t give me that, you know it’s true!”
“It’s humiliating is what it is,” Grian muttered, “Mumbo and Scar are never gonna let me live it down.”
“Good!” Pearl chirped, bringing back the stones she had collected to make a circle. “You deserve it, honestly.”
Mumbo’s shriek rang out through the forest, startling the two. Grian nearly fell over from how much he jumped, eyes going wide from shock. What made the shriek more concerning was the explosion that followed soon after, and Pearl was about to charge off into the woods before Scar yelled, “Just a creeper! We’re good!” his voice tiny from the distance.
Pearl shook her head, sighing softly. “Those two are going to give me gray hairs early,” she murmured fondly.
“You’re not the only one,” Grian muttered, earning a laugh from Pearl. “What?”
“Maybe if you’d stop being such a scaredy cat–”
“I am not–!”
Despite their bickering, they were able to get the fire going before Scar and Mumbo came back, looking a tad singed but none the worse for the wear.
“Area is successfully lit up!” Scar proclaimed. “We should be safe from all the spooky things out there now. Should be.”
“We’ll set up a watch nonetheless. Better be safe than sorry,” Grian decided, as Mumbo and Scar joined him and Pearl at the campfire. “I’ll go first, because there is no way you’re waking me up once I’m out.”
“I’ll go second then,” Mumbo volunteered, “if no one else wants to,” he added after a moment.
Pearl shrugged. “I’ll take the third shift, then, and Scar can go last?”
“Sounds good to me!” Scar agreed, and the knights fell into silence.
As the makeshift campfire crackled softly, spitting sparks into the night sky, the knights lingered for a while around the small source of warmth and light. For a while, there was a somber sort of quiet hanging over the group– silence settling in the empty space that Impulse usually filled.
Grian, still in his watcher form, leaned forward to gaze into the fire, light reflecting off eyes as black as the night sky. Scar glanced over, and despite everything, had to suppress a giggle.
Clearly, he didn't do that very well, and Grian looked up at him with a slightly confused expression. “Are you alright, Scar?” he asked, and Scar couldn't hold it in anymore.
He giggled, reaching out and patting Grian's face. “You look like a kitty cat!” he exclaimed, “with your big ol' eyes and everything!”
Grian blinked. “I'm sorry, what–”
Pearl started laughing. “I guess we didn’t have to worry about them being scared by our other forms then, huh!”
Grian’s face flushed a light pink, and he shooed them all away. “Oh, go to bed! I’ll wake you for your shift, Mumbo!”
The other three dispersed, laying out the sleeping bags Pearl had thankfully thought to pack. Better to be over prepared than under, in her opinion.
Sleep came surprisingly quick, though it seemed like she had just closed her eyes when she felt Mumbo’s gentle hand on her shoulder, waking her for her shift. Pearl blinked away the sleep in her eyes and quietly thanked Mumbo, before taking a seat by the slowly dying campfire.
There wasn’t much to do during a night watch, other than to sit alone with her thoughts. And that’s exactly what Pearl did, until she thought of something too important to leave floating in her mind.
The plan was for Grian and her to expel the demon from Impulse using their own magic. But where would the demon go after, when it had been forced from its host?
Pearl quietly walked back to her sleeping bag, opening the small pack she had set beside it. She rifled through the contents for a moment before pulling out a small, clear cut crystal. She’d gotten it so long ago she’d forgotten how it came to be in her possession, but it would work just fine for what she was thinking of.
Walking back over to the campfire, Pearl shifted into her watcher form, holding the crystal in her hand. Sitting down, Pearl closed her eyes and breathed in deeply, feeling the magic of the world around her. Another breath, to feel the magic buzzing in her veins. In and out, once more, and she began to imbue the crystal with her magic.
It was a simple enough task. All Pearl needed to do was prepare the crystal to bind the demon to it with her magic. Once the demon was expelled, it would be a simple enough task to pull it into the crystal. And then, as long as she kept checking on it from time to time and strengthening the binding magic, the demon would remain sealed away.
Deep breaths. In, and out.
Pearl let the magic flow through her and into the crystal, caught up in the feeling of casting. She didn’t do it often, not like this. It was nice to finally use her magic again. She didn’t even realize how much time had passed until she felt a hand on her shoulder, and Scar’s quiet voice in her ear. She opened her eyes to look at him, continuing to cast as she did. “Oh! Scar!” She kept her voice down, aware of how close they were to the two who were still asleep. “You good, mate?”
Scar nodded. “I think it’s time for my shift,” he explained, glancing toward the sky, “and also, I felt your magic. Whatcha doin’, Pearl?”
Ah. She had lost track of time, then.
Pearl finished casting, tucking the crystal into her pocket. “Just makin’ a lil magic crystal thing. For later,” she explained. “Sorry for not waking you up. Or… kinda waking you up? Since you sensed my magic and all? I guess?”
Scar shrugged, smiling slightly. “Nah, don’t worry about it. I got plenty of rest. Which you should probably try to do as well. Big day tomorrow.”
Pearl stood, shifting out of her watcher form. “Right, then. Have fun with your watch shift, Scar. And I’ll do my best. G’night, Scar.”
“Good night, Pearl.”
The morning came too quickly, and not quick enough at the same time. There were few attempts at conversation as the knights began to break down camp, kicking dirt over their small fire and packing up what little they had taken out. Grian, who had shifted into his “normal” form to sleep, shifted back into his watcher form and took a minute to relocate Impulse and the demon.
“I can’t see him, exactly,” Grian explained to Scar and Mumbo. “It’s a bit blurry, I guess. I know where he is, I can see the magic around him, but I can’t really make out small details like his face. I don’t really know why, but that’s just how it works.”
“Sooo… like looking through a really bad spyglass, then,” Scar concluded, earning a sigh from Grian. “What? I’m right!”
“I guess,” Grian admitted as they mounted their horses, “but that’s kinda like comparing a bow to Mumbo’s rocket launcher. They do kinda the same thing, but one’s a lot more complicated and powerful.”
Scar hummed thoughtfully. “I see… well, as long as it works!”
Grian remained in his watcher form as he led the tense ride through the forest. The sky above was streaked with clouds that occasionally would cover the sun and cast the land below into shadow. As the knights got closer to their destination, the trees began to thin out, promising open fields up ahead.
“You’d think he wouldn’t have gotten this far,” Grian muttered to Pearl, “but humans have so much endurance. It’s fascinating. And somewhat annoying.”
Pearl hummed softly, her gaze fixed straight ahead. “I’m worried for his health. I’m honestly doubting the demon cares too much for Impulse’s well-being, and I don’t think it has to deal with the negative effects of what it’s putting Impulse’s body through. If that makes sense.”
Grian nodded, his eyes focused not on what was in front of him but on something– someone– far away. “Demons don’t feel exhaustion or hunger, do they?” he asked, speaking mostly to himself.
“I think some do,” Pearl answered, “but not this one. Since it’s only in the blood, y’know? And it’s only borrowing… Impulse… so that’s not it’s… well. Body, I guess.”
Grian suddenly stopped, causing Pearl’s horse to almost run into his. “We’re dismounting here,” he called back to the other three. “Impulse is just up ahead, in the fields beyond the treeline.” He dismounted carefully, tying the reins to a sturdy branch. “Right. Let’s go over the plan one more time. We’ll find Impulse and confront the demon. Pearl and I will begin casting while Mumbo and Scar keep the demon busy and stop it from running off. Once Pearl and I start casting, we won’t be able to stop until the spell is over. So if something happens– if one or both of you gets injured, let’s say– we won’t be able to help.”
The others dismounted with serious looks on their faces, tension hanging in the air so thick one could almost cut it with a knife. Scar glanced over at Mumbo, who looked several shades paler than usual. “I’m the best at physical combat,” he began slowly, “when I go vex, at least. I’ll do my best to keep it from attacking you or running away, without hurting Impulse too badly.”
“The demon will be attacking to kill though, won’t it?” Mumbo asked, wringing his hands together as he looked between the other knights. “It won’t fight fair just because we are.”
Scar laughed sardonically. “Oh, I’m not gonna be fightin’ fair, mister. I’m just not gonna strike lethally, is all. But you’re right,” he added after a moment, “the demon is gonna try to kill us. And it’s– it’s strong. We know this. But the other option is letting Impulse die, or lettin’ someone else die in his place.”
“Impulse would never forgive us if that happened,” Mumbo pointed out, “and, well, given the other option is his death…”
“We can’t give up,” Scar finished, earning nods from the rest of the group. “We’ll get Impulse back. We have to.”
Pearl looked over at Grian, shifting into her watcher form as she did so. “Right, then. Time to head out?”
Grian nodded, clenching his hands into fists. “Time to head out. Let’s go save Impulse, guys.”
The sun peeked out from behind the clouds as the knights made their way out of the forest and into the wide open field. The wind rustled the grass around them and blew through their hair, and carried with it the promise of a fight.
Grian had shifted out of his watcher form if only for a moment, just to make travel on foot easier. He was, after all, not suited for walking with those bird feet of his in his watcher form. He carefully ran his hand over his wings and plucked three loose feathers, silently handing one to each of the knights. A promise. No matter which way this went, he’d be with them.
The knights each tucked their feathers away, Pearl reaching out to take Grian’s hand in one of her own and giving it a light squeeze. We’ll be okay, the action said, I’m here.
The knights continued to walk through the field, walking over a small hill when Grian suddenly stopped, his wings extending slightly so as to stop the knights who were walking behind him. “...I see him.”
And there he was.
Impulse stood in the field, facing away from the knights, slightly below them where the ground evened out after the hill. He seemed unsteady on his feet, the sword in his hand dragging against the ground as if he had unsheathed it only to forget why he had done so, and lacked the strength to fully pick the weapon back up.
And his hands… even from a distance, Grian could tell that Impulse’s hands were covered in blood– some dried, some freshly spilt. He… couldn’t think about that. They didn’t have the time to. Not now.
“Impulse!” Pearl called, her voice strong and steady. Grian wished he had the strength to do what she did. “Impulse, we’re here. It’s okay.”
Impulse startled, nearly dropping his sword as he turned around sharply. And finally, after so long of trying to find him, the knights were able to see his face.
He looked gaunt, scared. The bags beneath his eyes were a testament to the exhaustion that plagued his body, and the shake in his hands matched the fear in his eyes. That wasn’t the worst of it– twin horns poked up from his hair, unnatural and out of place. Mumbo sucked in a horrified breath at the sight, paling and covering his mouth with one hand.
“What–” Impulse’s voice sounded strained, raspy– “what are you doing here?” Tears filled his exhausted, scared eyes. “Why did you follow me? I could– I could hurt you!” And suddenly, it wasn’t Impulse anymore, but red eyes and a straightened back and steady hands that belonged to the demon. “Yes… why did you follow him? Don’t you know?” it mocked in Impulse’s voice, smiling. “He can hurt you pitiful little things.”
Scar’s eyes shone a brilliant blue, the colour fleeing from his hair as he glared at the demon that wore Impulse’s face. “What have you done?!” he yelled, his hands clenching into fists. Sharpened claws pricked into skin, drawing small beads of blood, but Scar didn’t even feel the pain. That was Impulse. Impulse was hurting and it was all because of that demon, the demon that stood in front of him and smiled at Scar with a face that wasn’t its own, that it had no right to use.
“Oh!” The demon tilted its head to the side. “Oh, nothing he didn’t ask for.”
Eyes filled with rage, Grian shifted back into his watcher form. “Scar! Mumbo!” he called, and the fight began.
Scar held himself back from going full vex at first, throwing himself at the demon. It hadn’t been expecting the initial attack, stumbling back several steps before pulling itself together. The shock didn’t last long, and the demon was soon fighting back with a fierceness that Scar did his best to match.
Grian looked over at Pearl, meeting her eyes. “Right then. Let’s end this.”
Standing side by side, the two siblings fixed their gaze on the demon in their friend’s body. The magic that swirled around him was wrong, unnatural, evil– and it was their job to fix it. Pearl reached out and took Grian’s hand in one of her own, giving him a nod. They both stretched out their free arms, and called upon their magic.
The clouds darkened as the very magic that flowed through the air began to change, as if even the sky stopped to focus its attention on the two Watchers. The ambient magic flowed around them like a gust of air, rustling through Grian’s feathers and Pearl’s hair.
Grian's wings extended to their full span, and Pearl's followed suit, snapping open as a glowing purple eye appeared behind them. The wind picked up as the grass around the two began to glow as well, the broken portal symbol of the ancient Evolutionists appearing at their feet.
Faces set with determination, the two began to cast.
Scar did his best to keep the demon’s attention on him as he fought. It was much different than normal fights– his goal was to keep the demon from running off, all while trying to dodge the blows that were aimed to take his very life. Scar felt the vex magic inside him boiling in his veins, begging to be let free, to run wild and take over his mind. He stubbornly fought it back down– he was in control, not the vex. He wasn’t ready to go full vex again. Not yet.
Unfortunately for him, the universe didn’t care if he wasn’t ready.
The demon, by possessing Impulse, had gained every bit of the man’s strength and skill. And given the strength-enhancing magic it likely held, it was no wonder that Scar was struggling. The demon attacked again, and Scar wasn’t able to get out of the way in time. He took a heavy blow to the side and stumbled back, losing his footing on the uneven terrain and falling to the ground hard.
Mumbo stumbled back as the demon suddenly turned toward him, fumbling to quickly draw his sword in order to block the sudden attack. He strained under the pressure of the demon bringing Impulse’s full strength to bear, his arms shaking as he tried to push back. “Scar!” he yelped, “Scar, I can’t–”
The demon brought the sword down, and it was only Mumbo’s quick thinking of jumping to the side that kept him from dying instantly. The blade still sliced into his arm, and Mumbo let out a frantic scream that made whatever restraints Scar had holding him back shatter. Mumbo dropped to the ground, blood flowing freely from the wound, and Scar…
Scar snapped.
Not in the same way he had before, not at all. He was in control, and could feel the power of the vex flowing through his body as natural as the blood in his veins. Power buzzed behind his eyes as shining vex wings appeared behind him, and he shot up, taking a few steps forward before attacking the demon, the overwhelming need to get it away from Mumbo singing in his movements.
The demon turned to attack Scar, and he dug his claws into its chest and pushed it back as hard as he could, almost throwing it with how hard he shoved. He’d clearly underestimated his strength, as the demon flew back and landed hard on its arm, the sickening gunshot snap of a bone breaking making Scar wince.
And for a moment, the scream that tore its way out in response was purely Impulse, his voice unchanged by the timbre of the demon’s. For a moment, it was just Impulse, only Impulse, and guilt swept through him like a torrent.
But then it was the demon again, pushing itself back up and switching the sword over to its left hand, shining red eyes glaring at Scar as it shifted into a fighting stance once more. “Well? Fight me, then. See how long it takes for your precious friend’s body to break down and give up.”
Scar’s eyes narrowed. He glanced over to where Mumbo was, clutching his arm close and watching the fight with wide eyes. He’d be alright, and that was what was important. Lifting his gaze once more, Scar met the demon’s gaze. “Impulse is stronger than you’ll ever be. You’ll be long gone before he ever breaks down,” he spat.
The fight didn’t get a chance to continue– with a shout, Grian drew Scar’s attention back to him and Pearl. The magic around the two siblings had become wisps of purple light, swirling around the two as they casted. Scar knew with uncanny certainty that the spell was almost complete.
The demon did as well, judging by its roar of anger. “No! I will not be defeated by pathetic little mortals–!”
Scar saw it attempt to go for Grian and Pearl and dashed forward, throwing himself at the demon and bringing it and himself crashing to the ground. He winced at the impact, mentally making a note to apologize to Impulse later, when they were all safe.
“Scar!” Pearl yelled, and Scar took that as his cue to get the heck away from there.
He jumped up and scrambled away, uncaring if he looked a little undignified in the movement. He made it to Mumbo and collapsed by the man, bleeding and gasping, and turned just in time to see the spell hit its mark.
The demon screamed, an awful sound that tore into Scar’s heart, because it was Impulse, it was Impulse’s voice and Impulse’s face and Impulse’s body but it wasn’t Impulse at the same time. It wasn’t Impulse, and the eyes that bore into Scar while it tried to stand and was inevitably forced to its knees were not Impulse’s.
And then they were.
And then it was over.
Pearl pulled out the crystal from her pocket, drawing the demon’s essence toward her and binding it into the crystal. The once clear gem turned a scarlet red, and once she was certain it was sealed away, she slipped the gem back into her pocket.
A weak sob tore its way from Impulse’s lips as he gingerly held his broken arm in his other. He squeezed his eyes shut, shrinking in on himself, and for the first time since Grian had met him, Impulse seemed so small.
Scar stood shakily, helping Mumbo to his feet as well. “Okay… okay, okay,” he breathed out, making sure Mumbo was really alright before turning back and forcing himself to walk– walk, not run, he’s scared and hurt right now– to Impulse, kneeling by him. “Hey, Impulse.” He could see the other knights approaching in his peripherals, but for now he stayed focused on the injured man in front of him. “Hey.”
Pearl settled in the grass a little bit away, still leaving enough room to give Impulse space as she shifted back into her normal form. Grian followed suit, tucking colourful wings behind his back and sitting next to his sister. “Hey, mate,” Pearl started gently. “Can ya hear us? We’re here.”
Impulse let out a broken sob, shrinking in even further on himself. “I’m sorry,” he whispered, and the words were so quiet they were barely audible. “I’m so, so, sorry.” Hot tears slipped down his cheeks, mixing with blood and dirt.
Scar shared a look with Mumbo, before turning back to Impulse. He tried to keep his eyes from drifting to the horns that stuck up from the man’s head, and focused more on his face. “Impulse… Impulse, it’s okay. We’re okay. Can I touch you?” he asked, waiting for confirmation before reaching forward and carefully, as though Impulse were made of glass and would shatter at the slightest touch, drew him into a hug.
Impulse began to weep freely then, and Scar felt himself slowly relax out of his vex form, the colour seeping back into his hair and skin. He kept his arms around Impulse, murmuring soft comforts that had once been said to him.
It wasn’t long before Impulse passed out, from the exhaustion and exertion combined with the sheer pain and shock of the day’s events– of the weeks he had been dealing with the demon inside of his head alone. It had been exhausting, overwhelming, and Scar didn’t blame him in the slightest.
The journey home would be a long one, and the road to healing stretched out seemingly for an eternity. But the knights were no stranger to traveling, and this was just another path they would have to walk down.
Together.

Slashers Spend Halloween with Reader
A/N: HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I'm honestly pretty bummed that Halloween season is officially over after tonight, but I hope you all had a great time! Thank you all for your requests and support on my writings this month. Stay spooky, everyone!
Tumblr media
Freddy Krueger
Bar Hopping!
Are we surprised?
Freddy loves to have a good time, especially if it involves drinking and dancing with his hot partner
LOVES if your costume is a bit showy
Loves it even more if you both are matching
If he doesn't like the music that's playing, he changes it with the flick of a finger
If there's someone that's getting a little too close to you, he'll make them disappear for the night (and deals with them later)
And what's even better is that all of your food and drinks are free when Freddy is around
With the quirk of his brow, people are at his command, and no one will treat you any less differently either
Is constantly complimented on his costume because of how "real" it looks
But the moment your social battery runs out, he'll whisk you away into dreamland and cozy up next to you
But if you're ready to be out all night like he is, you can expect one killer hangover the next morning
Tumblr media
Michael Myers
Horror Movie Binge!
Michael is clearly not one to go out
As much as he likes Halloween, a bunch of screaming kids or equally drunk adults isn't his forte
But he does like horror and gore
So just say the word, cook the popcorn, and grab a blanket because Michael won't refuse
He even lets you cuddle into him if you want since it's a "special" night
Will share some snacks with you
Probably won't use the blanket, but he's fine if you put it on him
Literally doesn't even blink during the scariest parts of the films
Just don't expect him to binge movies with you all night
Michael can get stir crazy easily
And since it's Halloween night, you can expect him to want to go kill even more
There are too many lives that need to be disposed of in his eyes
But he does secretly cherish that time with you beforehand
He promises to watch more films with you later if you're still awake
Just another reason to come home to you
Tumblr media
Jason Voorhees
Walking Through the Woods!
Jason knows you still want to celebrate Halloween, even if it's not with a party or some public event
So what's better than a stroll through the woods?
You have to wait until it's dark, of course, and the moon is bright in the sky
He insists on taking his machete too, just incase
But he happily takes your hand and lets you lead wherever your heart wants
Loves to hear you ramble on about any current interests or hyper fixations
Especially loves when you bump into him or give his hand an extra squeeze
Will stop every once in a while to hold you close, trying to keep you warm from the cold night air
Also likes to watch you pick up random items you see on the ground or around the trees as you walk
Your constant curiosity for things makes Jason incredibly happy
If you guys manage to find a stump, he'll have you rest on it while he sits on the ground beside you
As you lean yourself against him, you share stories of what you did for Halloween as a child
Jason just listens in, content
Tumblr media
Thomas Hewitt
Game Night!
It's actually his idea to find some spooky games to play for Halloween night!
It's up to you whether you play together or with his family
He kinda likes those traditional board games that change their theme just for Halloween
But he's also happy to try something new with you!
Will snack on random candies and chips you brought along for the night
Also likes to hear you talk about whatever comes to mind
He's honestly pretty good at the games and is able to beat you from time to time
Will play a scary movie in the background
You both don't really pay attention to it, but the sound is nice to have
If you lose, he always reaches over and squeezes your hand as an apology
But as long as you're having fun, that's all he cares about!
If you win, he claps happily and relishes in your laughs
You end the night playing a simple card game, giving you a chance to talk more and share what you love about Halloween
Tumblr media
Bubba Sawyer
Carving Pumpkins!
Well, this only makes sense
Bubba and his family have all the perfect tools for carving pumpkins
And he finds the idea of jack-o'-lanterns keeping away spirits interesting
You have a bowl of candy and a couple drinks besides you both as you get to work
He definitely confuses the candy bowl with the pumpkin guts bowl a few different times
But he's honestly super quick with carving
It's all the practice with sharp instruments
He opted for more of a silly face while yours is a little more creepy
You decide to save the seeds later to bake for a snack as well!
Bubba turns on some fun Halloween cartoons while you both work
He even leans over to show you better ways to hold the knives and how to cut more evenly
Helps you light the candles to go inside the pumpkins once you're done carving
They both end up on the patio, lighting up the area with a fun glow
Tumblr media
Brahms Heelshire
Reading Scary Stories!
His parents weren't big on such fantasy tales when he was younger, so he never got to read much fiction
But when you showed him some scary story books you still have from being a kid, he was intrigued
He doesn't really like reading, but he loves when you read to him
You both make a whole night out of it
You get some popcorn ready, turn out the lights, and even make a little fort in the living room out of chairs
You managed to find a flashlight to use when reading as well
He lays with his head in your lap, listening to you read the stories
You even managed to jump and grab him a couple of times, causing him to yelp
He actually ends up getting a little paranoid later into the night, making you read some lighthearted stories instead
Once he feels more relaxed, he ends up falling asleep to your reading
You smile as you get up to grab some blankets and pillows, deciding to sleep in the fort for the night
Tumblr media
Norman Bates
Spooky Baking!
Norman has always been quite talented in the kitchen
You'd be happy only eating his cooking for the rest of your life if you had to
And since there wasn't much else to do in the middle of nowhere, you were happy to help Norman with his ideas
You start the night off with making some simple cookies
He made the dough and baked them while you got to decorate
You ended up creating little "spider" chocolate chips with a toothpick!
He then wanted your help making cupcakes
These took a bit longer, but neither of you minded
Norman had a record playing in the background, and it was easy to just converse back and forth with one another
While the cakes were in the oven, he took you by the hand and danced around the kitchen with you
Also plants plenty of kisses on your forehead throughout the night
You both took turns icing the cupcakes once they were cooled
Each treat ended up turning out a little different since you both wanted to create unique patterns and colors
And the best part of the night? Eating your creations together while watching an old Halloween film!
Tumblr media
Billy Loomis
Halloween Party!
You thought it would be a horror movie binge, didn't you?
Well, lucky for you, Billy was down to try something different this year
Especially since the whole month comprised of watching every scary film known to man
He is obsessed with your costume, unable to keep his hands off of you
He isn't HUGE on parties to be honest, but if he gets to show you off looking like this, then he's happy to come along
He shares a few drinks with you once you're there
He doesn't like getting drunk, especially since he wants to keep an eye on you
But he enjoys holding onto the red solo cup with his arm around your waist
Occasionally whispers dirty things in your ears and plants warm kisses along your neck
He enjoys seeing how much he can push your buttons out in public like this
Will dance with you if you beg
But it's hard for him to say no to you either way
The night is cut short when he gets into a fist fight with a random guy for flirting with you
Don't worry; he plans on paying the man a visit later
Tumblr media
Stu Macher
Trick or Treating!
You think you're too old for trick or treating? Think again
Stu finds you both costumes that make you unrecognizable
You don't think this is going to work out though since Stu is so freaking tall
But somehow, the adults don't question it too much
It's easier to not ask questions, it seems
He grabs your hand and drags you from house to house, laughing with you about random things
And once you both have your fair share of candy, he convinces you to play ding-dong-ditch with him
He may have stolen a pumpkin from someone's yard as well for being "cool-looking"
Asks to trade some of his candy for yours
Occasionally pulls you into people's backyards and makes out with you in the dark
And once most of the kids are back at home, he takes you to his place so you can binge on the candy
The night ends with a horror film too, of course!
Tumblr media
Eric Draven
People Watching!
Although this may sound boring at first, anything with Eric somehow turns out to be fun
He sets up a little fort on the roof of one of the tallest buildings in the city, the view being in the dead center of everything
He makes sure you're bundled up in plenty of blankets
The candy bowl is full, and he even has some snacks and drinks to share
You both look over the edge and just watch all the people walk by
You take turns pointing out random people and try to come up with stories on who they are, what their costume is, where they're going, etc.
Always ends in shared smiles and laughs
He strums a couple of tunes on his guitar based on your request
Plenty of cuddles and cold kisses as well
You end up staying out a good majority of the night, only going back home when the streets become empty
Your safety will always be his number one priority
So although you didn't do anything super exciting for Halloween, Eric still made the night very enjoyable for you
And at least this way, he knew he could protect you

Hello, could you do a scenario of tired kiss with tighnari or alhaitham where the reader is a scholar from akademiya who has a big project due and has been pulling all nighters that they miss their anniversary and the character is trying to distract them to get them to rest? Thank you uwu
Ahh this prompt! I love it!
Tired kiss with Tighnari and Alhaitham with their S/O
This is a part of 3x Valentines event (All slots are taken)
Reader here is gender neutral
Reader is part of the Academia
Tighnari
At first he was a little busy himself, so he actually hadn't realized just how much you're committing to your project.
He was already slowly planning something for your anniversary, so it only added to things he had to do, but he was done with majority of his tasks in no time.
So on the day of your anniversary you were late. Really late. After waiting for you he decided to pay you a visit. Everything was a mess, but he only paid attention to you.
It was obvious you haven't slept at all. Or at least not even close to what's healthy.
He could only sigh at the sight but it was time to take care of you. No deadline or date is more important than your health.
He carried you back to your bed, and when you laid down you only then realized that you missed your date.
Honestly the fact that you had the energy to be worried and think about it now was a cute...
As he sat by your bed, you sat up to give him a little kiss. As a way to apologize. It was short as it was clear you had little energy to even sit. So it only further confirmed what he thought of the situation.
For now he needed you to rest up. There was no need to worry so much about the date. You can go out someday later.
He understood that being part of a research was important to you, but he thought it was foolish of you to just let it take over your health to the point where you almost collapsed.
So the best way to apologize is to not let it happen again. Or at the very least rest up now.
In the meantime he took care of the mess you let your working space get to. Of course he didn't touch any papers in case he'd mess up the order of your work.
Alhaitham
Although he doesn't care much for special days, he does keep track of them. Even if to just give you his wishes.
But he recognized that an anniversary might be a little more special to you. So although he doesn't see the appeal in it being a necessity, he wanted to spend time with you regardless.
He knew about your project, and knew about your investment in it to some extent.
So he made the plans flexible, he figured it'd be best to prepare something you could enjoy at any moment just in case your schedule was full for the day of your anniversary- which I'll say again- He wouldn't care much about missing.
So when he went to you to present the idea, he saw in what state you put yourself in.
Honestly? He didn't know what he expected really. He felt mix of disappointment and worry when he saw how you were handling yourself.
To help you, he first had to take you to rest. When you'd make up for your lost sleep, he'd help you with your work schedule.
Because no matter how you try to explain yourself you weren't going a good job at either.
When he helped you get to your bed, you kissed and thanked him. The kiss was short, but welcome either way.
Honestly he didn't realize just how much he missed affection from you. As much as he isn't needy it did got him to think that perhaps for a couple you aren't spending enough time?
Next day when you woke up, you glanced at the calendar and noticed that you missed your anniversary.
You immediately wanted to go look for him to apologize. But you didn't even have to leave your home, as he decided to stay overnight.
Since you were awake now though, it was time to get to work. He cared about you so it was now time to find you a healthy routine of studying and researching that worked for you.
Your date could end up as a celebration of a job well done.

a/n: part of cursed!reader series of drabbles. sfw.
"y'know, it'd be nice to be loved like that," you muse as you follow nanami into the subway station. it's almost 3am, and both of you have sobered up a bit, knowing that satoru and his partner are probably stumbling into one of their apartments' drunk in their own right. you think for a moment that perhaps you should have actually explicitly made sure they made their own way safe, but you're pretty sure even piss drunk gojo can protect him and your friend.
nanami looks tired as usual, but he has a content smile on his face. you wonder if he heard you speak as you sit by him.
"oi, are you even listening to me?"
nanami turns his attention to you, a gentle flush of red on his sharp cheekbones letting you know that he probably is a little more drunk than you expected. it must be nice - you're often careful because you're a chatty drunk, and waking up after blacking out with multiple senses stolen from you is probably not ideal.
"always," he says. you raise an eyebrow. the train doors close and you start moving.
it's a strange answer from him but you allow it.
you sigh, stretching your legs out in front of you. there's just a singular man in the front part of your subway car, and he looks nonthreatening so you lose interest quickly. not much is there to look at, and when you look back at your friend, kento is peering at you through his glasses.
"what part of it do you like?" he asks. he chuckles, and you feel like you're being teased.
"i didn't say i liked it."
"you literally just said 'it would be nice.'"
heat rushes to your cheeks, but then you bite your lip and decide to own it.
"you know what, yes! i'm tired of being single. why would i want to be going halfsies on a tiny apartment with a sourpuss like you when a man should be appreciating my charm and treating me like a queen?"
it's nanami's turn to raise an eyebrow.
"do you think you deserve better?" he asks. you make a show of gasping in shock.
"why i never-"
nanami laughs louder this time and crosses his arms over his chest leaning back into the plastic covered seat. any time he laughs this much you're filled with an odd feeling, dread because he's probably making fun of you, or confusion... perhaps jealousy? you don't think you're that funny, but he doesn't seem to find anyone else as amusing. you hate that.
his hand rests on the top of your head suddenly and you kick him gently in the ankle.
"i deserve it," you remind him. you try to keep your eye contact fierce, making sure he doesn't patronize you; he lets his hand drop back to his side but continues to give you a pretend bemused look.
"perhaps."
breathing out through your nose, you decide you'll get him where it hurts.
"are you gonna pretend you're not bitter that your love life sucks?" you ask. he peers again at you sideways, then grins.
"i try not to think about it too much," he replies, promptly.
his ankles cross, and you consider kicking him again but the second time might actually hurt and you don't actually intend to hurt him. you purse your lips to the side and avert your attention instead. the shadows in the subway station start to hypnotize you the longer you focus on them, then you realize you are kind of sleepy. one of you has to stay awake to make it home safely, so you decide to return to antagonism.
"are you still pining over women who are inaccessible?"
nanami's eyes have closed shut by now but they open again.
"whatever do you mean?" he hasn't turned to look at you yet, and you're looking for the tick in his jaw that suggests annoyance but there's nothing yet.
"i told you to stop falling for lesbians, remember?" you tease him.
nanami gives you a look that lasts a bit too long, and for a moment you wonder if you've actually wounded him. you breathe in sharply and you're preparing to say the words, "sorry" but then he interrupts you quickly with the following,
"are you a lesbian?"
the question catches you off guard in the slight inebriation of hours after karaoke, where trot and enka play on loop and the taste of overpriced sushi swallowed not on your dime still ghosts on your tongue.
you would ask, "what's that supposed to mean?" but it's clear. kento's leaned into you and the train is slowing to a stop. you think your heart might slow to a stop too. he must be joking with you.
"i think you're too drunk, you're not making any sense." you finally say through your teeth, but the fact that you're suddenly flustered is apparent in the waver in your voice. kento snorts but it's soft and accommodating, not petulant.
the overhead PA tells you to unboard and kento moves first, getting to his feet but looks back at you and catches you as you stumble on heels too high for just karaoke and meeting with your closest friends.
your hand is in his and he lets go once you're steady.
you thank him but he can't steady your heart too.

It's currently way past midnight and Yuta just got in. Usually he would make sure to be home in time for dinner but tonight his schedule held him back. His home was quiet by the time he opened the door, assuming that you were already in bed.
So now he's heating up dinner in the microwave while reading the grocery list you stuck on the fridge door, smiling at the little drawings all around courtesy of your daughter.
He was too engrossed with reading that he didn't notice you coming down the stairs. Rubbing the sleep from your eyes, you spot your husband smiling at the piece of paper. You also spot the countdown on the microwave about to go off, quickly an quietly you trudge over to turn it off before the count down ends. Yuta having a little scare when he saw you,
"Baby, why are you awake?"
"Your son is kicking my bladder" you tell him, turning to face him and give him a hug. Yuta smiles, kissing the top of your head and hugging you as close as your pregnant tummy would allow him.
"The kids giving you a hard time?"
"Kaori had fun during soccer, she's an active kid. Her coach said she can play for the team next time if she keeps it up. She's only 7 and she's already a protege" you chuckle,
"That's my girl" Yuta says, "How about my boy, you two doing okay?" you feel his hand rest on your bump
"He thinks my inside is the soccer ball, I swear he's kicking in there. Damn you and your genes" you joke.
This made Yuta laugh, leaning down to capture your lips in his. Earlier he was really tired but now it's like he's re-energized. He wish he could spend all day with you and Kaori, but he got to go to work and provide.
It's not like he's being old fashioned and making you stay at home with the kids. Quite the opposite actually. Before you got pregnant with your second, you worked for a big fashion brand.
You were home until Kaori turned 1 then Yuta took the role of being the stay at home dad. And he loved every second of it, he loved being there whenever his little girl needed him.
But now Kaori's 7, your once little baby now a growing girl. The second pregnancy came as a surprise but both of you were very happy about it. This time though you're sick all the time during the first trimester. Then one time during the second trimester your tummy contracted and it gave the two of you slight scare but all is good now. So Yuta made you stay at home for the time being, for your and baby boy's safety.
"You should've woken me up" you tell him when the two of you broke apart
"I can heat my own dinner don't worry about it, you need to rest" he kisses you once more before stepping back to get his dinner from the microwave.
He sits on the bar stool by the kitchen while you pour drinks for the two of you.
"But I missed you, also Kaori was waiting for you she wanted to tell you all about her training today" you tell him, taking the seat beside him. He offers you a bite but you shake your head, not really hungry.
The two of you just talk quitely about how your day went, he cleans up after finishing his dinner while you wait for him.
After he's done he checks all the doors and windows downstairs before going back to you. Taking your hand and leading you upstairs.
"I'll go change and check on Kaori, you go to bed" he tells you.
He changes from his office clothes to his basketball shorts he loves wearing to sleep, leaving the shirt behind. He knows you love to cuddle him shirtless.
Yuta goes and opens his daughter's door, seeing the tuff of dark hair peaking from under the blankets. He smiles, whispering a quiet goodnight before shutting the door and making his way to your bedroom.
You're laying on your side, waiting for him. He shuts the door and the lights before sliding right beside you. Immediately you scoot over so you can hug his arm.
Before you can cuddle him fully, but since your bump is getting bigger and bigger everyday you can't really do that anymore. But he knows you can't sleep without hugging him or having any skin contact so he lets you do whatever you're currently comfortable with.
"Why don't I hug you instead?" he asks, just like he did last night. He already knows the answer but he tries anyways.
"Nooo, then you'll be the big spoon" you grumble. Nuzzling your face on his shoulder while he watches you lovingly.
"Why not? You love it when I'm the big spoon, you love it even better when I-" "Okay I'll stop you there, I like it when I'm not as big as a balloon. But your son is currently growing inside of me so let me be"
He giggles, the man giggles before leaning over to kiss you on the head before setlling back down on the bed.
"Whatever you want, my wife. Now go to sleep" he tells you. He feels you kiss his skin, then you're back to cuddling his arm. In your words that's an I-love-you. After being married for so long he already knows even without the words.
"I love you" he tells you then he's off to dream land too.

Not Alive, Nor Dead
[PREV PART] [AO3]
Okay I realized a scene I love comes up in the fic on this chapter, so I was like "well, I'm not doing anything right now, why not write it?"
So I wrote it. Enjoy.
(This one has description of some gore and aftermath of torture, very short segments, not worse than was already in the fic)
Ghost woke up slowly, the slick residue of his nightmares fading away as he lifted his head and groaned. Soap had already woken up, and by the chipper way he moved around the room, a while ago.
The Sergeant is getting better at telling when he’s being stared at, and he turns around to raise an eyebrow at Ghost.
“Sleepin’ beauty is finally awake!” he says with a smile.
Ghost drags a hand under his mask, sighing, “time’s it?”
“500 sharp, sir” Soap provides happily.
The fuck’s kinda person is this cheerful at this hour? Ghost exhales loudly and finally gets out of bed. The Sergeant opens his mouth, to probably comment on his old man habits, but Ghost shoots him a stare that would’ve killed a lesser man.
Soap just gives him a shit eating grin in return, “not a morning person?”
Ghost walks towards the bathroom, “I’m a normal person, you’re the fuckin’ anomaly.”
The Scot barks a loud laugh that makes him feel a little less groggy.
At mess, the taskforce finds a table of their own, and the Sergeants busy themselves with an argument about one daft thing or another.
Price caught his attention and started speaking to him in his mind, “your nightmares are bloody loud sometimes, y’know that?”
Ghost bites on his toast, “don’t fuckin’ listen then.”
The Captain laughs a little before his features turn serious, “you wanna tell me how much of what the Reaper said in your dream actually happened?”
That’s what he dreamt about that last night? Fucking hell. Can’t keep secrets from Price.
“Won’t have to if you just told me, Simon.”
Ghost puts down his meal to stare intently at the Captain, “what did you see? In my dream.”
Price’s moustache twitched in thought, and he replied, “it said something about Soap bringing your demise?”
“It said ‘bringer of demise’, didn’t fuckin’ specify whose.” Ghost spat back.
“What else?”
Before he could stop him, he felt Price pull the memory to the forefront of his mind to watch for himself what unfolded on the plane that day.
“It told you to stay away from Soap if you wanna live?!”
Ghost banged his fist on the table, startling the Sergeants out of their idiotic bickering. He paid no mind to them, focus fully on Price, “I’m not going to stop working with the Sergeant just because my Reaper decided to be a little shit.” he snarls in the Captain’s head.
Price huffs, “I’m not going to let you die Ghost.”
“Did it say I’m going to die?!”
“Simon…”
Gaz cuts their exchange, “what’s going on? Are you two talking in your brains?”
Soap crosses his arms, “well, yer welcome to use your outside voice.”
Ghost gets up, “no need, we’re done.”
Before he can get out of range, Price tells him “keep yourself safe on this mission, Simon. We’ll figure it out later.”
He supposes that’s manageable.
Ghost and Soap bid their farewells to Gaz and Price, as they go on their own part of the mission, and walk back to the armory to get ready for theirs.
The two of them get dressed up, Ghost armed to the teeth with various throwing knives. He’s not going to use Limbo, not with Soap being right next to him.
And he won’t need to - Ghost is perfectly capable as a fighter with no abilities. There’s a reason the rumors about him as so varied.
Near inhuman in every aspect.
Soap is done before him (less knives, amateur), and now sits to watch Ghost finish up.
A low whistle makes him twist around, “haven’t seen this get-up since the last time we worked together, lookin’ good LT”.
…huh?
“Keep it tactical, Sergeant.” Ghost voices almost mechanically.
“Aye sir, yessir.” Soap gives him an overexaggerated salute.
He rolls his eyes and ignores the warm feeling spreading through his body for the billionth time.
The cartel member’s house appears in the distance after a few minutes of making their way through the wilder parts of Las Almas. Ghost and Soap take out the guards at the front gate and make their way in.
The house is a two storey, drab building, with no real defining features. It’s surrounded by a tall fence, and a smaller shed is stuck by the far left corner of the large yard.
The suspected location of the kidnapped people is by the far end of the house. They’re tasked with making it inside without alerting any alarms, lest they start killing the people trapped inside.
With the front door clear, the two soldiers open the door and instantly check corners, covering each other’s blind spots.
“Clear.”, Ghost announces.
“Clear.” Soap lowers his silenced pistol a bit, “seems awfully empty, LT. Sure we got the right house?”
“Affirm, stay sharp Sergeant.” Ghost starts forwards, Soap not far behind him.
He feels unnerved. The Sergeant is right, the house is quiet, as though it’s been deserted weeks ago. But a quick look at the amount of dust settled on the floors tells him it couldn’t be more than a few days.
They continue forward, clearing rooms methodically. Ghost has a sense of satisfaction from the act, an enjoyment in working together with Soap besides him for the first time.
They complete each other’s blind spots like puzzle pieces.
Soap declares the first floor clear, barring one last room at the very end of the hallway. Up until then they found several evidences that there were narcos residing here in the past, including a hefty amount of white powder, but they’re not here on a drug bust.
“On me Sergeant”, Ghost orders Soap before pushing the door open.
The scene inside is gruesome. Ghost is intimately familiar with narco torturing techniques, so the bloodied items strewn across the room were an unfriendly sight.
4 bodies lay in the room, and Ghost walks over to check for cartel tattoos on them. One of the bodies has dog tags, and he frowns while pulling it out of the dead man’s shirt.
They read “Thomas Anderson”. Why is that name familiar-
“Sergeant Thomas Anderson, 28. Revenant powers… ‘Breathing underwater?’”
Soap examines the torturing devices with wary eyes, muttering “steamin’ Jesus…” under his breath.
Ghost spots a large tub, filled with reddish water.
Anderson’s body is dry, besides the blood oozing out of his cold body.
The three other men in the room however… Their body is coated with an even amount of thinned blood, from their head down to their chests. They died from drowning.
What is the meaning of this…?
Ghost takes Anderson’s dog tags and stands up, “4 confirmed deaths, no survivors”, he radios in.
“Copy, exfil inbound in 30, get yourself there.”
They both exit the room, “copy, out here.”
Ghost turns to stand in front of the Sergeant, “one of them was a revenant”, he dangles the tags in front of Soap’s eyes. The date of Reaping is listed right under date of birth, like in their own tags.
Soap frowns, a certain anger washing over him, “what do you think they’re playin’ at?”
“We can chew on that back at base, for now let get to exfil-”
Ghost barely finishes his sentence when he sees Soap’s eyes widen, locked on something behind his shoulder. Half a second later, he’s being spun around, and the piercing sound of bullets fills the air.
Ghost’s heart hammers, and he finally focuses on the view in front of him. Soap’s wide, blue eyes.
And several blotches of red peppered across his torso, spreading quicker than Ghost can process.
“...Soap?” his mind can’t, refuses to make sense of the sight in front of him. Soap isn’t… he can’t be…
The Sergeant’s breaths are erratic, chest rising and falling in big swells. The shock in his eyes transforms, burns away.
Until all that’s left, is rage.
“I’m so sick of this…” Soap murmurs. Shouts in Spanish echo behind them, but Ghost have eyes and ears only for his Sergeant.
Soap lets go of his shoulders, and Ghost scrambles to take him in his arms.
But Soap turns around and walks away, legs shaking and hands burning brighter and brighter by the second.
One brave narco shoots at his shoulder, making the Scot stagger for a moment.
Ghost lifts an arm, to drag Soap back to him, to cover him from anyone who ever harmed him, to do something, anything.
But Soap unleashes a terrifying snarl and launches forward, grabbing at the narcos.
The explosions blind Ghost, screams and horrible sounds of metal creaking to the breaking point and bones snapping deafening him.
Soap whirls in the middle of this firestorm, exploding guns, heads, walls, anything in his path.
Ghost’s eyes water from the amount of dust and smoke that fills the air.
His Sergeant is radiant.
“Soap…” Ghost tries to stop the unstoppable. He just wants Soap to rest.
“Johnny…..”
Soap finally stills, carnage creating a halo around him, and all Ghost sees is the red on his clothes, the wheezing of his breath.
Ghost takes a step forward, and Soap collapses on his knees.
He rushes to grab him by the shoulders before he can fall further, “you’re fine Johnny, you’re going to be fine.” he sputters, pushing his Sergeant up to look at the wounds.
So many wounds.
He knows no one can survive this. Not even revenants.
“LT…” Soap whispers, voice weak and wobbly.
“You’re going to be alright, you…” air leaves his lungs without a sound. He can’t breathe. How can he?
How can he breathe when Soap lifts a trembling hand, the gentle warmth of flames licking at Ghost’s nape, and looks at him like that?
“LT… I’m not gonna-”
They both jump at the sound of car tires getting closer. The narcos called for backup…
Ghost can’t breathe. He watches Soap shivers in front of him.
He doesn’t have a choice.
Ghost takes Soap in his arms, hand on his nape mirroring his Sergeant, and presses his head to his own shoulder.
“Close your eyes, Johnny. It will all be over soon.”
He can hear Soap gasp, can feel his chest stuttering.
Ghost closes his eyes the moment footsteps enter the house.
Limbo courses out of him, darkness and emptiness and void filling the house, the residents of it screaming, snarling to take a bite at the intruders.
He holds Soap tight, pressing himself as close as he can. The protective wisps of light barely cover them both, but he will not let Soap be taken by Limbo.
Not Soap. Not Johnny.
In the next blink, Limbo is gone. The victims of the void quiet, as if they also mourn along Ghost.
Johnny pushes lightly at his chest, and Ghost separates them to look him in the eyes.
He seemed to try to form a sentence before a series of coughs wrecked his body, so Ghost laid him down on the blood-covered floor.
“G-Ghost”, he utters through clenched teeth, “d’ye… d’ye know how guns work?”
Ghost’s heart crushes at the sound of his Sergeants voice. He’s… not making sense anymore. Blood delirium isn’t unheard of… especially… especially with how much he-
“Yes”, Ghost softly whispers, more gentle than he ever learned to be.
“T-tell me”, Soap winces when more pain makes its way through his system.
Ghost wants to wither away with him. “The bullet goes into the chamber… and the primer is ignited to cause a small exp-”
His world stops completely.
“T-Teh cause a small ex-explosion.” Soap finishes slowly.
Johnny is…
“I’m not gonna d-die, LT”
Ghost’s eyes slide away from Soap’s, to the rest of his body. He slowly lifts his Sergeant’s shirt, to reveal multiple bullet holes where the tac vest didn’t cover him.
Bullet holes that are already closing.
Ghost wanted to scream out of joy, wail in premature unwarranted grief, shout at Soap for not telling him earlier.
But the radio informs them exfil is 10 minutes out, and they need to get a move on if they want to arrive in time.
Ghost slides his hands under Soap’s body, blood soaking his gloves in a way that takes him back 8 months ago. Back when it was different.
Soap grasps him like he’ll fall if he doesn’t.
Different, yet also the same.
The walk to exfil is quiet, save for Soap’s harsh breathing. Healing or not, he still feels pain.
The driver of their exfil car looks horrified at their shared state, but neither give an explanation and take a sit at the back of the car. It’s only after a few moments of nothing that Ghost mutters, “drive” to the Vaquero.
He feels numb, his arms and legs limp, gaze forward, but nothing truly passes through his brain.
Soap shifts beside him, letting out grunts of pain every once in a while. Making it obvious, despite what his heart tells him, that he’s very much alive.
The blood seeping under his fingernails feels freezing.
The Vaquero was at a loss of what to do with them once the car reaches the base. Ghost shuts the door loudly, and with it the connection to his heart.
Lieutenant first, human last.
“Where is medical?” He asks the man.
Ghost carries Soap all the way to the nurse’s hands, where he was stopped and told he had to clean up if he wanted to stay any longer. He wanted to scream infection doesn’t matter when the wounds will close in the matter of minutes, but the look on the nurse told him she wasn’t impressed.
He left medical to drag himself to the showers, energy left behind him with every step.
Showers are usually a short ordeal for him, as efficient as they come. But Johnny’s blood going down the drain made him linger.
30 or so minutes later he comes out, and for the first time in what feels like hours there's  something in his brain, besides numbness.
It’s Price. Him and Gaz returned.
The voice in his mind sounds concerned, imploring him to explain why everything looks so dull there.
Ghost ignores it and goes to find his teammates.
“Ghost” Price greets, Gaz perks up from his previous position, head held in his hands. “Where’s the Sergeant?”
Ghost nods back at the hallway, “medical.” is all he provides.
Garrick startles, “Was he injured? What happened?”
“Flanked.” Ghost says, voice matching the emptiness in his head, “got shot.”
“Shot?! Fuck, where-”
“He’s immune.” Ghost cuts him off.
Gaz becomes confused, “immune?”
“To bullets. Primer ignition counts as explosion.”
The Sergeant sits back down, body slackening, “thank fuck…”
Price catches ghost’s eye contact, “but you didn’t know that.”
Ghost just… shrugs.
“Fucking hell…” the Captain looks away, “it was one of the redacted details in his file…”
Gaz frowns, “why would they redact that?”
“Reapers know.”
The next couple of hours zoom past Ghost. His teammates try to coax him out of his unfeeling self, but Ghost isn’t truly in base.
His mind is stuck in a cartel house, in the Las Almas wilderness. On bloody and soot covered floor, with a dying man in his arms.
On eyes, shining with burning rage.
Pain! Pain! Pain! All I'm making Ghost feel is pain!

nightmares | park gunwook
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⇢ pairing: gunwook x reader
⇢ warnings: fluff
⇢ word count: 700
prompt #14 "please don't cry, we're both here and we're both fine"
⇢ note: writing for gunwook is so lovely but can you guys believe this is one of the only requests i have for him? it's a little insane, like the imbalance of requests per member baffles me JEOWNWBWKQ (special shout out to my favorite wook stan @zerobaselove i had you in mind writing this)
Tumblr media
gunwook stirred in his sleep, flipping over on his side and attempting to reach out to grab you and pull you closer, but to no avail. he grumbled discontentedly, scooting himself even farthing in to your side of the bed - just in case you were on the edge of it somehow - and finally decided to open up his eyes and look for you upon flailing his limbs once more and still not finding you.
he was greeted by emptiness, furrowing his brows in confusion and concern, wondering where you could possibly be when it was this deep into the night. he sat up, feeling his dark hair sticking out every which way, but he didn’t care. he glanced over at the clock on his bedside table, greeted by the fluorescent red numbers that read 3:52am.
he swung his legs over the edge of the bed, bare feet being greeted by the cold hardwood flooring beneath them. your bedroom door was cracked, giving him a small inkling of where you could be, and decided to pull it open, greeted by the gentle stillness that blanketed your shared home. it was almost eerie, and could feel his heart beginning to sink at the idea of you randomly leaving him in the middle of the night - though he knew you would never actually do that.
he started in the kitchen, thinking that maybe you had gotten up to get a glass of water, but everything remained untouched from your after-dinner cleanup. next was the living room, though that was vacant too. he raked his hand through his hair, fear now settling into the pit of his belly.
he caught a glimpse of your restless figure sitting on a chair that decorated your front porch through the window, your legs curled up beneath you and one of the throw blankets you had likely picked up from the couch wrapped around your shoulders. he made his way to the front door, quietly opening it so he didn’t scare you, and padded outside, quickly grabbing your attention.
he knew something was wrong from the way he was able to see your tears glistening in the dim moonlight and the deep frown adorning your lips. he crouched down in front of you, warm hands finding their resting place on your thighs, and asked, “what’s wrong, baby? why are you out here so late?”
“i’m sorry for waking you,” your voice was fragile and barely above a whisper, fresh, hot tears now streaming down your face, “i was hoping you would stay asleep if i came out here.”
he tilted his head ever so slightly to the side, gaze softening upon hearing your words, “you never have to apologize for something like this. what’s got that pretty little head of yours awake so late?”
you fell silent at his question, bottom lip beginning to tremble slightly. he gently rubbed your legs, allowing you to take all the time you needed to collect yourself, finally telling him, “i had a really horrible nightmare about you and i just… couldn't fall back asleep after waking up from it.”
anything else you wanted to say died in your throat, instead replaced by a loud cry, your body instinctively melting into gunwook's as he opened his arms to you, engulfing you in one of the warmest, loveliest hugs.
“please don't cry, we’re both here and we’re both fine,” he mumbled into your hair, taking note of the way your fists balled up into his t-shirt, as if you would lose him at any given moment.
he added, “if you ever have a nightmare like this again, you wake me up, okay? i don't want you to ever feel like you'll bother me by doing so.”
you simply nodded, your breaths finally falling into an even rhythm as you listened to his heartbeat, your eyes growing heavy at the cozy feeling he was providing to you. sighing, you stated, “i’m sleepy, wookie.”
he squeezed your frame, helping you rise up onto your feet, his lips planting a gentle kiss on your forehead as he said, “let's get you to bed then, my love. i’ll make sure to protect you from those dreams.”

COZY SUNDAY
A/N: some cozy college!boyfriend!harry content where he is the sweetest shy little baby!
WORD COUNT: 1k
SUMMARY: Spending the day in bed with your boyfriend.
MASTERLIST | SUPPORT ME!
Tumblr media
There is something special about waking up to the rain’s rhythmic thumping against the window on a Sunday when you know you have absolutely nothing to do. The soft covers are deliciously tangled around your body and limbs, keeping you warm and cozy, though there is another source of heat very close to you.
A pair of arms are locked around your waist under the blanket and you slowly make out the quiet snores puffed against your neck when you shift your attention from the sound of rain. A mop of chocolate curls are spread out over your chest and shoulder as Harry is sleeping soundly, wrapped around you like a koala bear and just the thought of him brings the first smile of the day to your face. Your full sized dorm bed is plenty enough for you, but when you have your almost six feet tall boyfriend over, you need to squish a bit together, though that’s your favorite part of your sleepovers.
Burying your face deeper into the pillow you gently wiggle around until Harry is lying right next to you, facing you as he is drifting in and out of sleep from your motions.
When you blink your eyes open you find his closed, his curly lashes beautifully fanned out, fluttering gently whenever he gains consciousness until he finally stays awake and he looks at you.
“G’morning,” you smile at him lazily, brushing a few curls out of his forehead before moving closer to kiss the tip of his nose. He hums, a gentle smile tugging on the corners of his lips as he closes his eyes again, tightening his arms around your waist.
“Mornin’,” he whispers, his fingers finding their way underneath your sleep shirt, drawing little circles to your naked skin.
You take a few moments to admire his slightly puffy morning face, this time without his glasses. You love his nerdy glasses and the way they always slip down the bridge of his nose, making his fix them, you can recall the motion even with your eyes closed. But you also love seeing his bare, handsome face.
Harry is nothing like the guys you’d dated before. But just to be clear, you made quite a few questionable choices when it came to dating. Your exes are all the same, extroverted, the life of the party, more concerned about their social status than their relationship. You came to college determined to not make the same mistakes like you did in high school and you guess you actually succeeded.
Though you never thought you’d fall this hard for the quiet, shy guy you got paired up for your English Literature assignment in your first year. It took him some time to work up the courage to ask you out, but you were patient and he was worth the wait, because before you became lovers you connected deeply as friends and you believe that’s the secret to why you’re just so great together.
Harry’s stomach growls, making you both laugh as he finally opens his eyes, looking at you with blushy cheeks.
“Sorry,” he breathes out.
“I’m hungry too,” you tell him, running your fingers down the side of his face.
“If you want you could come with me when I head out and we could drop by the bakery,” he offers and you pout your lips at him.
“You want to leave?”
“I, uhh… I don’t want to overstay my welcome. I’ve been here since yesterday morning.”
You sigh, giving him an eye-roll, because you’ve been over this countless times. Harry tends to think you might have enough of him at one point and he is always so careful not to get too clingy, even though you told him there’s no such thing as too much time spent together. If you could, you’d be glued to him 24/7 and you definitely don’t mind the clinginess.
“Put on your glasses,” you tell him, earning a confused look from him. “Just put your glasses on,” you repeat yourself. He hesitates before turning to the other side and grabbing them from the nightstand. He puts them on and turns back, the frame sitting a little on his nose as his face is pressed into the pillow.
“Why did y—“
“Now hopefully you can see it clear that I want to keep you around for as long as possible.”
His eyes soften as his cheeks turn red, you love it when you make him all flustered and nervous, even after months of dating.
“Why don’t we go to the bakery together, then come back here, light all of my candles and just watch movies for the rest of the day?” you suggest as you gently push him so he’s lying on his back and you roll on top of him. He glances out the window, then back at your face.
“It’s raining. I’ll get us food and you just stay here and choose the movies,” he offers, being the absolute saint that he is. Your heart melts and leaning down you finally press your lips against yours.
You lounge in bed for a little longer before Harry gets dressed and leaves while you get everything ready for a perfectly cozy day. You light your candles, ask for a few extra blankets from Emma, whose room is next to yours and then make tea for the two of you, finishing up everything right when Harry returns, a big paper bag in his arm and you know he didn’t only go to the bakery, but he dropped by the grocery store too to get you your favorite snacks and treats. You thank him with the biggest kiss and once he has gotten rid of his wet clothes you make yourselves comfortable on the bed, tangled together, munching on the food Harry got you, watching your and his favorite movies one after the other, taking cuddle breaks between that sometimes turn into a bit more than just hugs and kisses.
The rain stops by late afternoon, but neither of you intends to leave your cozy little nest, Harry finds his favorite spot, his head on your chest and you gladly play with his curls while you finish yet another movie. When it gets dark outside he asks if he could stay for another and you just pull him in for another kiss, tucking him in. When he falls asleep you gently take his glasses off, put them to the nightstand and let yourself drift off to sleep too, happy and so in love in the arms of your boyfriend.
Thank you for reading, please like and reblog if you enjoyed and buy me a coffee if you want to support me!

Yakuza Headcanons: Watching Spooky Movies
Oooooo it's the spooky season ain't it. Hello hello I rise from the grave to bring you some fresh headcanons for the season. For those with asks still in the inbox, I SEE em, just been busy with my horror movie marathon. Anyways, some headcanons below da cut to tide you over. Also welcome bouncing baby boy Ichiban to the gang!
Kiryu Kazuma
Isn't scared easily by much of anything so it's really easy to get him to watch horror movies. Mostly watches them because someone else is too scared to watch them alone. He's the person they can hide behind or who will tell them when a particularly horrifying scene is over.
Gore doesn't bother him as much as something or someone looking creepy or offputting will. Kiryu still won't get scared but he will get uncomfortable. Most of the time he just reacts by going "Ah... oh!"
Fond of the classics and will gravitate towards movies with a strong and likable protagonist. Likes The Evil Dead, Aliens, and Halloween. Directors don't matter much to him.
Majima Goro
He's a mixed bag. If a movie is well put together, then it can scare him pretty easily. He's most scared of ghost stories or paranormal things. Least afraid of slashers because he thinks he could just beat them all up.
Cannot stand jump scares. Sometimes he evens yells at his TV at home in irritation, saying things like "Oi, whaddya keep makin' loud noises for? Sheesh!"
Honestly, the weirder the movie the better. It might seem stereotypical for someone who looks and acts like Majima but he thinks the whole point of horror is to be interesting. Fond of Takashi Miike movies like Ichi the Killer, Audition, and Over Your Dead Body.
Akiyama Shun
Doesn't watch a lot of movies because he totally falls asleep during most of them. He'll at least give it a shot if you ask nicely though. Honestly more motivated by the fact you might cling to him during the scary parts than anything.
As much as Akiyama is a total ladies' man and romantic at heart, he always laughs whenever characters start being intimate during horror movies. He makes jokes out of it, saying things like "Babe, would you still love me if we were in a spooky movie?"
Movies with a good soundtrack actually help him stay awake. Jump scares annoy him though because if he falls asleep, the noise makes him panic. Fond of monster movies or movies about animals like Jaws, Shin Godzilla, and The Host.
Saejima Taiga
Genuinely not scared of a single darn thing. If you want to watch it, he's down to give it at least a try. He might nod off if he's tired or bored, but he tries his best not to. Horror comedy is okay with him too although he might not get all the jokes.
Most of the time he sits with his arms crossed, paying full attention. He's kind of funny in that he makes noises like "Heh" or "Hmph" when a character is caught off guard by something. Makes an occasionaly "Tsk" sound at jump scares. Otherwise he's not reactionary.
Particularly fond of slashers, probably because those usually have villains that are actually kind of his size. He enjoys the Friday the 13th series, particularly Jason X.
Tanimura Masayoshi
Type of guy to be like "Ooh let's watch this, I heard it's really scary" and then proceed to either get scared out of his wits or say something like "Wait, that's ALL?" at the end. Bases most of his movie choices off of other people's recommendations since he's usually too busy to randomly go see however many movies he wants to.
Doesn't really like horror that's super in your face. Gets more scared by the tension itself than anything. Always has movie snacks on hand.
Found footage is probably his most favorite type of horror. Likes The Blair Witch Project, Noroi, and REC. Fond of director Koji Shiraishi.
Ryuji Goda
Doesn't watch a lot of horror movies but like Saejima he's not scared of anything. He's also the type of guy to drop everything to spend time watching a movie with his partner. Gets a kick out of being a shield or protector during scary parts.
Likes movies with a lot of personality and campiness. Slow burns or psychological thrillers just put him to sleep. It doesn't matter if it's good or bad, as long as it's entertaining.
Didn't think he'd end up being much of a horror fan but he's quite partial to John Carpenter. Likes The Thing, They Live, and Christine.
Nishikiyama Akira
One of the bigger scaredy cats of the group. Won't suggest a horror movie but will totally act like he's not at all afraid if you ask to see one.
Honestly, the two of you end up just kind of holding onto each other during scary parts or pulling up the blanket almost over your eyes when a character is about to die. Violence doesn't necessarily bother him but excessive gore kind of annoys him.
Enjoys a good ghost story movie but only if you'll watch it with him. Anthologies are also good too since it offers so much at once. Likes Ju-On, Ringu, and Tales From The Crypt.
Mine Yoshitaka
Likes certain horror movies. Not scared of much but he does get noticably uncomfortable with torture movies like Saw or Hostel. He just finds it to be weird more than entertaining.
Fond of more classic monsters like vampires or werewolves. Mine's the type of guy to actually have a decent home theater setup, even if he doesn't get much time to use it, so he doesn't go to the movie theater much.
Has a soft spot for some of the really old classics in the 30's like Frankenstein or Nosferatu. His favorite horror movie is Interview With The Vampire.
Daigo Dojima
Probably the only one of the boys who actively enjoys slow burns and more psychological horror. He doesn't get opportunities to watch movies much but he does have an interest in the medium as a whole.
Particularly loves anything with spectacular cinematography. Good directing, lighting, or costumes really impress him. Kind of interested in some of the technical aspects as well. Also probably the only of the boys to ever look something up on IMDb.
Especially fond of movies by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. His favorite horror films are Kwaidan, Cure, and Pulse.
Tatsuo Shinada
The biggest scaredy cat of all of the boys. Will attempt to watch a spooky movie with you at least once just for the sake of trying but will honestly just close his eyes if he feels overwhelmed. You HAVE to hold his hand though.
Probably the only one of the boys who actually gets squeamish easily. Gore and blood make him uncomfortable, although he has SOME tolerance in general. He'd just rather watch something that's not super heavy on bloodshed.
Horror films with a particular visual style, especially super colorful ones, make it a lot easier for him as he can actually see what's happening and he feels less worried. Movies like House or Suspiria are good for him. Also likes super over the top movies like The Lost Boys or Killer Klowns From Outer Space as they're so hilarious to him that he forgets to be scared.
Kasuga Ichiban
Somewhat easily scared. He gets more shocked or surprised than scared, honestly. The movie HAS to be interesting to some degree or he will just conk out and there will be no waking him. Doesn't mind jump scares since they help keep him awake at least even if the movie's bad.
Having said that, he does enjoy taking the time to see a movie that's genuinely just really good and talking about it with you afterward. Movies with really good effects tend to impress him a lot. It's also more visually memorable.
Tends to like movies where the main character has special powers. Partial to zombie movies since a lot tends to happen and involves multiple characters. He likes 28 Days Later, The Dead Zone, and Carrie.

Hey!!! Remember me from the 'love at first sight' drabble? Let me tell you, it was SOOO GOOD! Literally had me screaming and shouting. Anyways, can you do a part2 where the boys ask reader out and how their date went? Sorry if this is a bother but once again feel free to decline. Thank you and have a great day!
hi again anon! im glad u liked it omg 🤭🤭 and yes i can do a part two!! thank u again for the request <3 i hope u have a good day/night!!
i forgot i wrote this in drabble form last time and started writing so many headcanons 🙃 so i had to delete them all and rewrite it in actually sentences,, so sorry for the wait </3
first part here!
characters: sae, rin, nagi, chigiri
a mystery allure
Tumblr media
sae
you both had agreed over facetime to finally go on a date with each other. he suggested you both to the cafe where you guys first met and then walk around town afterwards. and so, that’s what you guys did. you noticed he got the same order in between his talks of football. yes, he talked about football. it’s the only thing he really knows how to talk about. you’re going to need start a topic if you don’t want to talk about it, he’s pretty clueless otherwise.
afterwards, you both walked to the beach. at that point conversation started coming more naturally, no longer forced football talk. you both sat down, admiring the view and talking about whatever came to mind. he even goes as far as letting your legs touch. if you don’t retract at that, he goes even farther and let’s his hand touch yours.
it was a calm date and he would undoubtedly, though awkwardly, invite you to another one.
rin
you both finally met a year after the blue lock project. it was a coincidental meeting, really. rin happened to bump into you and shidou during your hangout in town. shidou, of course, needed to tease him in front of you about how he reacted to your picture. feeling somewhat bad, you decided to give him your number.
he is incredibly bad at texting. and he knew. he decided the best way to get your attention was to invite you out to a date with him. and he’s not much better with date ideas.
you both go to a park at first, sitting and giving each other basic questions to get to know one another. it hadn’t been too bad. then, both tired of sitting, you walk around. at that point the conversation got awkward, rin never being one to talk to people in the first place.
it wasn’t until you both got hungry and decided to go eat some place of your choosing that the conversation got easy again. though, it is important to note that the conversation involved rin (jokingly) dissing your food taste. your food taste could literally be the same thing but he will want to diss it. he only does it to create a natural conversation for himself and make it more comfortable. from there on out, the conversation went well.
won’t initiate any touch with you. he’s also too scared to ask you out on another date, your lack of reactions making him doubt himself. if you ask him he would immediately say yes, however.

you guys had actually gotten really close before he had asked you to go on a date with him. so, it was no surprise to you when he wanted you to come to his place for the date. it was also no surprise when he struggled to stay awake during the movie.
i mean, how could he not? with you, someone he found immense comfort in, so close, the lights low. it didn’t help that you let him rest on your shoulder either. he still found it to be a good date, even if he was asleep for half of it. probably tried to kiss you after he woke up too, still in a hazy state.

you guys easily started talking thanks to the movie hangout with his sister. there was never a struggle with conversation and he enjoyed being around you. you had come over to hang out with sister again and he instantly joined you guys. he asked you out when she went to the bathroom, suggesting to go to his favorite cafe.
the date went well, there were no awkward points in the conversation as you both shared a treat of your choice. even after finishing, you both still stayed, conversation still going on. this lasted for half an hour until you both left the cafe and ventured through the city.
you guys had no destination, wondering wherever your feet carried you while continuing to talk. it was late when you both decided to go home. he, of course, walked you home. once you reached your place he asked you to go on another date, expressing how much he liked this one.

He calls you his favourite person, yet you have no idea he's hosting a party until you get the invite in the mail. Joshua Hong confuses the hell out of you and perhaps now is the time to finally figure him out.
Tumblr media
Joshua Hong is someone you can never figure out.
On paper, he's perfect. He attends church every Sunday and goes as far as to volunteer at all the events, sometimes even at charities outside of it. At school he's popular and well-liked by everyone around him—a teacher's pet, a straight A student, involved with all the extra-curriculars under the sun. Your parents love to use him as the standard every time you do something less than perfect in their eyes.
Well, that's because they don't know what he's really like.
To you, Joshua Hong is someone who calls you his favourite person in the world as he gives you his best smile. He likes to confide in you with all the latest gossip, and then listens attentively whenever you vent to him about your day and takes the time to remember everything you say. That includes knowing your favourite fast-food order and how you got the tiny scar on your elbow when you were five.
But the same Joshua Hong is the one who never replies to your texts except once in a blue moon, doesn't make eye contact with you on campus, and often pulls silly pranks on you and laughs when you fall for them. And while talking to him may leave you feeling cared for and appreciated, you often end up realizing he's told you nothing about himself. Like this party he's hosting next week—you'd think that the two of you are close enough for him to tell you about it, but he still hasn't said anything.
It's like he only pops into your life whenever he feels like it, and usually that means at the strangest times of day.
Hence why you're sitting across from him in the local McDonald's at 3am.
"Did I wake you? You look too awake to have been asleep when I called."
"Yeah, you did. How rude, Joshua Hong." You shoot him a glare for emphasis even though he's right: you weren't asleep when he called. Perhaps you'd been staying up in the hopes that you'd be hearing from him, but that's something he doesn't need to know. You also leave out the part where you had to sneak out of your window which wasn't easy at all; it had to be done if you wanted to do anything fun while back at your childhood home for the winter break. "Also, my parents are going to kill me."
Joshua actually smiles. "Don't worry, they won't find out. Besides, they say I'm a good influence, so you'll be fine if you just tell them you were with me."
It may be the first time the two of you have done this, but it's nothing out of the ordinary. The week before finals, he'd thrown pebbles at your dorm window to get your attention, and you both proceeded to make snow angels all over the campus fields. To destress, he'd said. And the time before that, he turned your shopping trip into the most ridiculous costume contest by picking out outfits for each other to try on. He still insists he would've won if the two of you hadn't been forcibly removed from the store.
"Good influence my ass," you mutter under your breath. "So why are we here this time?"
"I skipped dinner and got hungry," he says with such a straight face that if it were anyone else, they would've believed him. But you're all too familiar with his humour and strange antics by now.
"You really will say anything and everything, huh?"
"Yes," Josh admits with a laugh, "but that's why you love me."
At times like this, you feel like there is more to your friendship than just what is on the surface. When the two of you are at this empty McDonald's and he looks at you like you're the only one in the world, or when he goes out of his way to pick you up at 3am and comes prepared with an extra jacket because he knew you'd be cold. Somehow each moment with him feels special, like an inside joke or a small secret that only the two of you know.
And even though you don't see him all that much, somehow these are the little things that make him feel like he's your close friend. No, your best friend. Or maybe simply... yours.
You throw a fry at his face and manage an 'I hate you' in an attempt to cover up how his words have caused your pulse to speed up. Do you love him? Probably, if the heat at your cheeks is any indication. That's something you're still trying to figure out, but deep down you suspect you've always known the answer to that and being with him only seems to prove it.
It irks you to hear it said out loud so casually though. You hate how he seems so unaffected when it throws it out there and how you can never tell what he truly means. You can never tell what any of this means. What does it mean to be sharing a pack of nuggets under the ugly florescent lights of McDonald's at this ungodly hour?
But then he says something funny, and those thoughts are left forgotten.
An hour later, he's pulling up to your driveway. The streets are still as dark as when you'd left, the roads still silent. By then the exhaustion has started to set in, and you only have half the mind to figure out how to sneak back in through your window.
Joshua turns off the engine and silence fills the space where the low rumble was before. You reach for the door handle and are about to say your goodbyes before leaving, but the continuing silence has you hesitating. This is somewhat unusual—normally when he drops you off, he leaves the engine running as he waits for you to get back to your house, but now, the stillness makes it seem like he doesn't want you to go just yet.
Your guess is confirmed a moment later when Joshua turns to you, and you can feel your stomach twisting with uncertainty.
"So, are you coming to the party?" he asks softly.
Right, the party. How could you forget when the invitation is still sitting on your desk, untouched? It should probably be something nice to receive, though the sight of it only reminds you of how little you really know about Josh. You're close enough to be here with him in the middle of the night and yet you had to find out about the party through an invitation, instead of from his own mouth.
"Do you want me to be there?" You try to mask the hint of venom lacing your voice. It still leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.
If he hears it, he doesn't seem to react to it. "Why would you say that?"
"Well, I don't know. Maybe because I didn't even know you were planning to throw a party since you haven't exactly mentioned it to me. Ever. I only found out through that invitation."
"Ah." He looks away and is still for so long that you don't think he's going to answer at all. "Jeonghan sent it."
"So are you only telling me about it now because you found out that Jeonghan sent the invite? Did you want to invite me at all?"
If you were expecting an excuse, an apology or explanation of some sort, you don't get one. Josh glances at you and there's an unreadable expression on his face before he shakes his head. "You're right. I didn't want to invite you."
Oh.
It's a direct punch to your gut. His answer echoes your mind, blocking out everything else beyond this moment and the way your heart is being crushed under the weight of his words. Is this it? Has he gotten sick of you? Or worse—has he somehow discovered that your stares linger a bit too long and your texts are a bit too frequent to hide any of your true feelings?
"W-what?"
He nods. "It's only because it's not a great place to be. Don't ruin your holidays there, Y/N. I'd much rather do something else with you that day."
"You want to... hang out with me that day?" you repeat automatically, frozen like a deer in headlights. None of what he's saying makes any sense—he didn't want to invite you to his party and didn't want to tell you about it either, but he still wants to hang out with you?
You've already been having trouble discerning his intentions and have been trying to convince yourself that it's okay. That what the two of you have is enough and you don't particularly need to know where you stand with him. But having this whole party thing blow up in your face is feeling a lot like the last straw for you. Regardless of your feelings for him, the pushing and pulling, the distance, it's become all too confusing.
Joshua must notice the look on your face for he continues. "Like, maybe we could do something more normal for a change? I know you've been wanting to do that. We could watch that movie you wanted to see, or go to the Christmas market? Or—"
"Josh," you say softly, and he stops. You take a deep breath and try to get your thoughts together because this is something you have to ask him now or you'll never get the chance or the courage to again. "I don't really get it. You don't want me at your party but still want to hang out with me that day?"
He opens his mouth to respond but closes it again, looking away.
"I guess it's not just about the party. It's that you—you confuse me. On most days we're good friends, maybe best friends or maybe... something more than that. But other times, it's like we don't know each other at all. I feel like I don't know you. And I don't get it; you clearly care about me but what are your intentions? What are we?"
Your words are left hanging in the air. It suddenly feels suffocating to be in the car with him now that you've blurted out what's been on your mind, and it makes you wish that things were different. But now it's too late to take it back. It's too late to undo this moment.
After what feels like an eternity later, Joshua breaks the silence. He lets out an audible sigh and closes his eyes, slumping forward against the steering wheel like he'd rather be anywhere else. "I'm not good at this stuff, Y/N."
"It's okay, you can tell me." You try to make it sound truthful, maybe slightly nonchalant. It's not exactly a lie, but why does it feel like one? Maybe you'd rather not know. Maybe it's better if the two of you don't breach the subject. "Just let me know what you're thinking."
"You're the only good part of my life, Y/N. The only real part."
"But?"
"But I don't deserve this. I thought that if I detached myself, if I worked hard, then things might be fine. But I feel like shit, and heck, I didn't even want to host this party."
"What do you mean?" you whisper, but he makes no sign of having heard you. Then a little louder, "What are you trying to say?"
"I was trying to be perfect, Y/N. All the things I've been doing—the volunteering, the church stuff, all those clubs. The side projects. I thought that if I did those things, they would make me perfect." Joshua runs a hand through his hair but still doesn't meet your eyes, opting to stare out into the darkness in front of him instead.
After hearing what he said, things start to make a bit more sense. He might be talking around the question at hand instead of answering it, but the answer does seem so close you can almost taste it. Maybe you should be able to put it together by now, but it's just slightly out of your grasp.
You have to ask him one last question. "Why are you trying so hard to be perfect?"
"Because I'm not good enough for you. I did all those things so that maybe they would somehow make up for everything else."
And there it is. He doesn't say any more than that, but already you know exactly what he means now. He's talking about the other side of him, the one that you see the most—his eccentricity, the unusual adventures the two of you often go on, his spontaneous ideas that might not always lead to trouble but seem to be somewhere on the spectrum of wrong anyway. Joshua Hong is trying to make up for his true self by creating the most pristine persona, one that no one can say anything bad about.
One that might be able to impress you.
"Is that what you've been thinking this whole time?" You want to reach for him, pull him in to reassure him that everything is fine, but settle for putting your hand over his own on the steering wheel. "Josh, you don't have to be perfect. It's enough to just be you."
Josh lifts his head. "Yeah?"
"Yeah. To me and everyone else who cares about you. Besides, perfect is boring."
"Well," he says slowly, "I thought you'd disapprove of all the crazy things we've been doing."
You stifle a laugh. "Trust me, I wouldn't have done all those things with you if I didn't want to."
"So... can we do something together on the day of the party?"
"Of course." You nod, giving him a smile. "We can do whatever you want to do."
"Good." He leans back in his seat, looking so visibly relieved compared to just a minute ago. The corner of his lips curves up just the slightest like it's a glimpse of the real smile he's trying to hold back, and you can't remember how you were uncertain about his intentions before when everything is this real.
Everything the two of you talk about in the next hour only proves that too. He tells you about himself, about his likes and dislikes and favourites, about all the things he's wanted to say but have been too afraid to. He talks about the other parts of his life, about hosting this party with Jeonghan but it's really a ploy to play matchmakers for all the people around them.
Before long, the first glimpse of sunrise is on the distance, and you realize the two of you have stayed up all night.
"Hey, Josh?" You turn back just before leaving. "Does this mean you're going to skip your own party?"
Joshua shrugs, and when he looks at you the smile turns mischievous. "Jeonghan's not going either. But I'm sure everyone will be just fine."
