Social Psychology is a very funny Community episode, but it also confuses me to the point of somewhat ruining the joke. So *attempts to crack knuckles, doesn't really know how* allow me to ruin the joke. Seriously if you're gonna read this, please ignore the fact that I'm talking about a sitcom. I'm going fully indulgent on taking things too seriously here.
First of all, why would people be having breakdowns? I'm not the best at predicting human behaviour sure, but I think most people left in a room that long waiting for an experiment to start would just leave after a while? Maybe with a slight complaint or eye roll or just "sorry I don't have time for this?" And I think there'd probably be chatter among them, maybe someone would go through to ask what was going on? I just don't think most people would just go "well I guess I have no choice but to sit here and do nothing until I'm so overwhelmed I can't control myself"?
Secondly, I know Duncan is not meant to be a great psychologist, but jfc you really think a single outlier ruins your whole theory? An outlier who is very obviously different from most people, in a way you yourself mentioned, albeit in a pretty offensive way? Sure it might be annoying to deal with in your paper or whatever, but it's not that big a deal, in fact it could lead to more research? Talk to Abed, get it confirmed that he's autistic, study how more autistic people respond?
Also like, I get Abed's reaction, I get wanting to wait because friends, but how the fuck wasn't he like, visibly exhausted and desperate to go to the toilet? Are your bodily functions running on pure friendship energy my dude?

If the Straw Hat Pirates were on social media:
this has probably been done before but idc
Luffy doesn't have an account (he doesn't know how to use a phone) but Nami and Usopp run a tiktok where they take videos of him getting into street fights, climbing on top of statues in public, or running all-you-can-eat buffets out of business. He has no idea he's become popular online. There's a subreddit that compiles every sighting.
Zoro streams his workouts on insta but often forgets to turn off the stream, leading to everyone seeing his completely empty apartment. His chat is full of simps but he doesn't actually know how to open it and never connected it to his bank account to receive donations. He's been invited onto various podcasts but has never responded to any of their emails. Most of his workout advice is just to lift heavier weights.
Nami is actually not a hot tub streamer, but she constantly jokes in her just chatting streams that the next stream will be one. Clips of her raging in Valorant have gone viral several times in spite of how she preaches kindness and respect, but she's always managed to get away with an apology video. She secretly posts on 4chan to argue with her haters.
Usopp is a variety streamer who's an absolute god in every shooter he plays. He trash talks like crazy in voice chat and several of his questionably true rants about how he's the best player ever or going to show up at his opponent's house have become memes. Sound clips of his terrified screams while playing horror games have become memes as well, and he hates it. He's actually active in his community discord, and frequently reacts to its meme channel.
Sanji posts recipe videos, clips and screenshots of which regularly do numbers on twitter for how amazing they look. The restaurant he works at requires reservations six months in advance because of how much he's boosted it's profile. A reality show once did an episode on him that revealed not just the way he belittles chefs who fuck up, but the biased treatment he gives to women. He can't shake that reputation, but is trying to be better. He's recently moved to tiktok and gotten a brand new boost of fans.
Chopper first appeared as an expert guest on various podcasts, and then started youtube videos explaining basic medical concepts. But somehow, fan comments convinced him to start making videos like "Doctor Plays MINECRAFT for the first time?" He believes every single fake rumor about Herobrine.
Robin posts her history lectures online and is beloved by students around the world for how understandable she makes complex topics. Her videos are very popular as unintentional ASMR. Otherwise, she mostly avoids social media, but you'll occasionally see her networking on academic twitter and vagueposting about how hard she works and how much she wishes things were easier. Secretly, she's active on AO3 and is known for her hundreds of angsty hurt/comfort fics in just about every fandom you can imagine.
Franky runs a DIY engineering youtube channel where he posts the most insane inventions. His titles are all along the lines of "POLICE SHOWED UP AT MY HOUSE? SUUUUPER TRUCK WITH MOUNTED CANNON BUILD!!!" He does AMAs on reddit every year and ends every single comment with SUUUUUUPER.
Brook is a popular musician online, but doesn't have a youtube channel of his own. He's known for rock covers of classical pieces and his concerts sell out completely, but the only videos of him are posted by fans. The only way he actually communicates with fans is on facebook, where he's active to this day, mostly to post puns.
Jimbei hosts a political podcast where he talks primarily about minority rights, but he takes on guests with a variety of views for the sake of open debate. He's ratioed political figures on twitter many times. He travels frequently and posts about it on his blog.

And that’s the episode.
What an immediately intriguing show.  I’m always a sucker for a cool post-apocalyptic world, the animation is great, the monster design is neat, the characters are fun, it’s got evil frog people, the works.  I’m looking forward to more--and I’m REALLY looking forward to learning the details of the apocalypse.  How did we get from 2020 normalcy to 22XX monster world?  This is going to be very interesting.
That’s going to be today’s liveblog--short, I know, I’m sorry, but episode ends are the stopping point.  Tune in tomorrow at noon EST for the start of Amphibia episode 4, or you can tune in to my Twitch channel today at 1 PM EST for the continuation of Signalis!  (And, probably, at 5 PM EST for the continuation of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster!)
Before I go, I’d like to plug both my blog’s Patreon and my Twitch/Youtube Patreon. I make my living off of Patreon, and while I make enough to cover rent and bills, I don’t make a ton of money from it and haven’t been able to save anything up in the last decade or so.  (I ended March with fifteen dollars in my bank account!).  Every dollar helps, so if you’re willing, please consider pledging a dollar or two.
Thank you all for tuning in, and thank you to my 46 blog patrons, who make it so I can do this for a living!  I’ll see you soon!
IN OTHER NEWS:
I recently completed my first playthrough of Undertale!  You can see the full playlist of those streams by clicking here!
I recently completed my first playthrough of Disco Elysium!  You can see the full playlist of those streams by clicking here!
I have an ongoing first playthrough of Final Fantasy XIV that I’ve been streaming on Twitch! If you’d like to tune in when I’m live, I stream it every Saturday at 1 PM EST, and I upload my stream VODs to my Youtube channel!  If you’d like to see that playlist, click here!
If you’d like to help me pay my rent, buy me some food, or help with my bills and medicine, please use my direct donation link!  If you’d like to support me per liveblog completed every month, please pledge to my Patreon!  If you’d like to support my streams or pick a game for me to stream, you can pledge to my stream Patreon too!
You should also go pledge to Gio’s Patreon, or his Sponsus–our Discord server maintenance tech and creator of Rubybot deserves far more than I can afford to pledge to him by myself.
If you’d like more of me and my content:
My Episode Lists master page, where you can find every show and liveblog I’ve done!
My Discord server, where you can come hang out with me and other fans, check out member liveblogs, and join community gaming guilds!
My Twitch channel, where I stream variety games every so often!
My Youtube channel, where you can check out past streams!
My ask blog, where you can send me questions and comments!
My Twitter, where I make announcements about liveblogs and streams!
My merch store, where you can get shirts, mugs, stickers, and more!
It’s your kindness and support that lets me do this stuff, and I wouldn’t be where I am without all of you to do it for.  Thank you all so much for your support, and for tuning in every episode!
OTHER PEOPLE YOU MAY ENJOY:
I may have been one of the earlier Steven Universe liveblogs, but a whole community of livebloggers has sprung up over the last six years!   I linked to a bunch individually for a few wrap-ups, but honestly, this end-slate is already eight billion miles long, so I’m just gonna link to my links page.  Click here if you want recommendations of other livebloggers, or other neat people, or webcomics and podcasts that I recommend.

ASK EDDIE returns Thursday, September 21, 7:00 PM PT to our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/filmnoirfoundation/live
FNF prez Eddie Muller responds to film noir fan questions fielded by the Foundation's Director of Communications Anne Hockens. In this episode, we discuss Eddie’s short story “Doc’s Oscar”, the essential Italian noirs and film museums, the disreputable noir characters of wholesome TV icons, memorable bell tower scenes, and more. We wind up the show with a discussion of our favorite film noir openings. On the cat front, Charlotte and Emily are too tired to participate.
Want your question answered in a future episode? We solicit questions from our email subscribers in our monthly newsletters. Sign up for free at https://www.filmnoirfoundation.org/signup.html
Everyone who signs up on our email list and contributes $20 or more to the Film Noir Foundation receives the digital version of NOIR CITY Magazine for a year. Donate here: https://www.filmnoirfoundation.org/contribute.html
Can’t join us on Thursday? No problem! A recording will be up on our YouTube channel, @NoirCity, on Friday, September 22: https://www.youtube.com/user/NoirCitySF
Note: Eddie will not be able to answer questions posted during the livestream nor ones left on our social media accounts
This week's questions:
In a recent episode, Eddie highly recommended the film ROSAURA AT 10 O’CLOCK [ROSAURA A LA 10]. Is it possible for ROSAURA to be restored by the Foundation and made available through Flicker Alley?
Michael, Post Falls, Idaho
Just read your short story, "Doc's Oscar", in the JEWISH NOIR VOLUME 1. Can you give us a little background on its origin? When did you write it?
Jay and Connie, Ann Arbor, MI
I'm planning a trip to Italy.  Please recommend your essential Italian crime/noir films.  Also, I hope to visit a museum dedicated to cinema. Any ideas
Steve in Mississippi
Have you read “Somewhere in the Night: Film Noir and the American City” written by Nicholas Christopher?
Sean Land O Lakes, FL
For me one of the biggest surprises of seeing familiar actors in Film Noir was seeing Raymond Burr as the heavy. What other later-known actors are the biggest surprises for someone getting into Film Noir.
Carlton, Atlanta, GA
Why does Eddie sometimes use the alias "Eddy von Mueller" for some of his Blu-Ray commentary tracks?
David
The late-'60s and the '70's are thought of as the time of the great neo-noir films, but what about offerings designed to play at drive-in theaters or so-called grindhouses? I'm also curious about regional films or filmmakers since that era was rich with localized film production. Are you aware of any that could fall under the mantle of film noir?
Kathy and Michael, Rockford, Illinois
In the past Eddie has mentioned certain movies that he considers to be more “message pictures” than full blown noir for him. I would love to hear you both talk about what the difference for you is between movies like NO WAY OUT, CROSSFIRE, FORCE OF EVIL etc. and movies that have tinges of Noir but fall into the Message Picture category and maybe some examples of those and why they don’t make the cut. Thanks!
Nathanael from New Braunfels, Texas
I recently watched the Douglas Sirk 1951 film noir, THUNDER ON THE HILL, and noted the similarities between the bell tower scene in that movie with the great bell tower scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 VERTIGO.  Are there other films noir that include a bell tower scene?  And, more generally, what other films noir have great staircase scenes?
Cliff in Fort Collins
Wondering if you know anything about scenes cut from THE MAN I LOVE DVD. The film is listed as being 96 minutes long, but the DVD version is only 90 minutes.
Michael, Chicago, IL
My question is about some very difficult to find Alan Ladd titles, specifically, CHICAGO DEADLINE with Donna Reed and SAIGON. Are these Alan Ladd films tied up in litigation or bound in some type of financial dispute? Is there any hope for their release in the US?
Don
Openings.  I have always been fascinated by the first 90 seconds of noir films and I’d just like to pay tribute to my favorite openings and listen as you add in yours as well.
Chuck

[ad_1] Hey how's it going everybody um I guess I'll start the stream off by just saying that we'll be giving away that t-shirt towards the end and in order to get the shirt you'll want to comment on the episode of that Penndel engine so if you haven't done that already there's still Time to go over there and comment and then I'll pull all those via the YouTube API and we can pull the winner that way so in this live stream more than anything is what I want to show you is basically my video production process so there's quite a few steps involved in it And I think it's probably quite a bit different than most other content creators process but not a hundred percent sure on that um let's see before we get to that just add a couple things that I wanted to go over see yeah just making sure check in the chat make if Anything's off with the audio let me know but it looks like we're good um see here so yeah but all the stickers we gave out on the live stream those went out they went out this weekend it was a federal holiday here on Monday so if you're if you're in the United States They should probably still get to you this week and then if you're international it kind of depends on the postal service but they're yeah I imagine you should have them probably sometime next week would be my guess let's see here and see other than that I think I mentioned this last time but When I'm working on a chat feature for the ionic course so that would be an extended module on that course so you'll get another it'll probably be roughly 10 to 20 videos added with a whole nother whole nother feature module with a bunch of new stuff in it and then that's That's underway I would say probably about maybe hopefully sometime next week but I can't can't really say for sure at this point alright cool so yeah I'll first just get into well there's a couple good questions and I'll go ahead and answer first before I forget first One is from Henry and he's asking let's see where do you find your inspiration and for inspiration I generally find most of it from our slack channel because I'm constantly getting just a steady flow of ideas from people and you know people have different requirements different problems that they run into That really help me come up with ideas so you know I very much value those suggestions and try to put them into the end product that you see on the channel but aside from that like other things happen in the web development community that give me inspiration as well like The edge browser just recently announced support for web components so now what broad you get time to start doing some web component content let's see here so interested in how does that production versus post production look you'll kind of see that once we get into the video But yeah trying to go okay to your coffee spaces or tabs generally coffee in the morning and then tea tea in the afternoon and then when I'm writing code I usually use tabs because it's a little bit faster now I just have my BS code reformat it two spaces because spaces Are generally better for sharing code between between people okay cool so I'm gonna go a flame link video yeah flame links a really cool product it's like a it's kind of like if you had a content full service like a content as a service API but instead you host the database Through firebase which is a much more efficient way to go and you can almost you could actually build a content management system yourself using firebase you could use real time DB or firestore and that's actually what I'm doing myself for this upcoming fire ship product so if you guys are interested I Can kind of show you how to build your own content management system using firebase from scratch which is and I think a pretty cool project but we can maybe talk about that one later let's see so I'm gonna go ahead and switch over to a screen share and then We'll start looking at the actual video stuff and okay so I just wanna make sure
that looks good on your end what I'm actually looking at here is the very first video that I ever produced and I just I'm just kind of curious to look at It because that's this is going about a hundred and forty episodes in the past back in April 2017 and you can see here I'm not even using vsk at this point I was still using the atom text editor which I'd really liked from prior development when it first came out it Was an awesome idea but BS codes like just completely surpassed it and features but the video really is kind of not very good I mean it's two minutes long and it's does some good things that I like but overall it's you know not a great video and so I think with video Production it really is something that you start out not being very good at and then you just learn small things along the way and slowly make the you know the video content that you're making better with each video that you produce so that's you know definitely an important Concept to keep in mind so starting with the process I usually the first thing I do is I come up with an idea and like I said I get those ideas maybe from slack or from just the web development community community in general this is so for everyone on the live stream There's kind of a preview of the next video that's coming out tomorrow and I have all new graphics for the for the video itself so you'll start seeing these different I kind of cover styles on the video so usually I you know start thinking about how I want to present the Content so I might put together some graphics that look like this and then the primary amount of the work is actually writing the code so I spend a lot more time writing the actual code that goes into a demo than I do and producing the video and so we'll go Ahead and start there and the one thing you'll notice in my videos is that I have a different style of showing code then you probably see on any other channel I've never seen it anywhere else but and instead of like typing everything keystroke by keystroke I do it in a faster way that's a little more efficient for me to produce and a little more efficient for me - voiceover the code when I'm producing the video and the way I do that's actually really simple so like imagine I have this code Block here I can delete things just line by line and reverse in the way that I want to show it so I'll delete all this stuff and then from that point everything's copied to the clipboard so I can just do you controlled see and then have everything reappear on the Screen I don't like magic like it's a really simple thing but a lot of people have asked me how do I do this and it's yeah it's really that simple so what I do is like right now I'm on Windows but I have a Linux machine Installed side by side on the system and so I'll write all the code in Linux and I'll record all the code screencast over there and then I'll upload those to Google Drive and the next step is to import all that footage into Adobe Premiere so what you're looking at here Is Adobe Premiere and this is kind of like a just a quick preview of tomorrow's video one thing I started doing is I'm trying to like make the intros a little more interesting instead of just showing the same intro every video I have a different background and Then embed the the intro video content like somewhere in that image and so we can actually split these layers apart and you'll see that the intros right there and then we have the actual image with a mask over it so it's transparent transparent on the screen and then you Can kind of layer things together to make the video footage a little more interesting and I'm let's see here so the overall process of making a video in my case is after I have all the footage shot I'm going to go in here and do the voiceover I pretty much sentence-by-sentence at This point in the channel like I really try to refine the voice-over content to be pretty like consistent and clear throughout the video and so
you can see here I've like sliced different pieces of voice content and we're just kind of going through the video in a linear way Um and oh and to give you another preview of what's coming out tomorrow is I have another shirt giveaway for that video so and that's kind of an early preview of what you'll see tomorrow um let's see another thing that I think is really important is having good audio so You like definitely want to have really solid audio for the intro and the outro but one thing I learned is you probably don't want the audio going through the whole video because it is kind of annoying for some people and I've noticed when I listen to videos that Have constant audio it does get a little annoying but you should definitely spend a lot of time if you're making video content you know figuring out the best audio to use see I'm gonna take a break and just check out the chat here really quick to see if there's some questions I Can grab and let's see if iris any hope of that will see any videos for flutter there is definitely hope I don't have a timeline for flutter yet but I've done quite a bit of development with flutter and would feel comfortable producing videos at this point but I've just got a Little too much on my plate probably for the next month but before I can really focus on creating flutter content um see my how to connect my sequel PHP with angular 6 that's that's probably topic you'll never see is my sequel PHP on this channel and today come with the Graphs myself that's a good question because um another thing with video production is like this graphic you're seen here on the intro is a highly customized version of an event template and so if you're looking for good templates for your video content that kind of the go-to place for pretty much Everybody is videohive I actually have this pulled up right here because you'll find all kinds of like pre-built transitions and intros and like logo stings and stuff like that but you can kind of use as a starting place for producing your video content and a lot of these like the actual Creators are people working in Hollywood that are doing these you know big-budget films that didn't go and resell their work to be reaped like reused in the secondary market like this you know in a lot of cases there's been thousands of hours of effort from real video professionals going into them so you Know to spend a hundred bucks on some pre-built stuff is usually well worth the investment let's see here and let's see can you try something on web scraping web scripting is a good topic I've considered doing that with puppeteer specifically puppeteers a little bit slower for web scraping but a Nice benefit of it is that you can scrape JavaScript sites so you can like scrape content on an angular app by just waiting for it to render all the content which Mike do I use I used this really crappy mic just an audio technica USB mic i've been thinking about upgrading For quite a while and i think i've started to notice some like technical issues with this mic so I'll probably be upgrading that pretty soon for OK for a screen capturing I use a really simple program called simple screen recorder on Linux I'm using Ubuntu version 18 Version 18 point o4 C do you write a script or do you just look over what you've done and try to explain it so when I first started the channel I wrote a script and I would write all the content in advance and try to just read Over that script it turns out that in my opinion is not a very good way to do do things so what I generally do is try to write like an outline for an article and make make that blog post article first and then do the voiceover in a linear way Like I was showing you an Adobe Premiere based on how I think the video should flow as I'm doing it so I don't I don't know if you can hear the sound here but so I'm not sure if you guys could hear that sound in Premiere but I basically Go through the video step by step and
kind of go back and re-listen the things and try to make it as refined as possible and I don't think you can really do that in a efficient way by writing a script I mean especially I mean it's definitely possible but you Need a lot of work a lot of extra work that I think would just be an efficient and the other program I use is Adobe After Effects so After Effects is a program that you would use more for one-off one-off graphics so like say I Want to show a logo intro I have this pixel storm animation and I can just export this single scene and then bring it into premiere for the you know entire video process so this is a super useful program as well these are kind of I'm generally going back and forth between The two of these depending on how many animations I have in a given video and let's see I'm trying to think of what else I can show you here on the video side of things that I don't know hopefully that give you a general idea of the overall process that I go through Let's see yeah just going back to the comments here to see what I can grab out of here and do I actually contribute to angular I don't really contribute to angular I contribute to the firebase JavaScript SDK and also angular fire too but I think I've made like one commit to Angular and that's about it and at this point I'd like I would like to contribute to open source projects more but I find that I just generally don't have the time to like go in and you know do bug fixes and stuff like that on on these huge open source projects like you Know angular's its massive mono repo so you have quite a bit of setup to even like get started contributing let's see some videos about react native react native is something I might consider covering in the future I think it does offer some advantages over other like hybrid app frameworks but right now It's not a super high priority or anything like that how do you prepare yourself for a subject the best way to prepare for a subject is to already have built something roughly related to it like in a lot of cases I've already built certain features for clients and I Can draw from that experience because I know like what problems are gonna run into and what issues you're gonna find and just try to really format that into something that's useful that a developer can use to get past these problems quicker and did you buy Adobe yeah so I Pay like 50 bucks a month for access to Adobe Creative Cloud I'll get you access to pretty much everything you need so if you're producing a lot of videos that's you know just a minor expense okay cool so yeah I'm just going through the comments Here guys how do you get out of your angular comfort zone I'm afraid to use other frameworks that's a really good question I think in development in general you should usually try to be a more general developer like you want to be a JavaScript you know call yourself a JavaScript developer rather than an angular developer and you know it's good to have some specialties but you definitely want to be like have those general skills under your belt so you should know how things work with JavaScript kind of at a more fundamental level because once you know that it Becomes really easy to just jump from angular to react to view because you know what the underlying JavaScript is doing rather than like just trying to work with them constraints of a framework and typically also on that same note like if you're looking for a job they're gonna Generally be asking you to code things in vanilla JavaScript like algorithms and basic programming stuff so if you're you know on the job market you're gonna want to be a you know well brushed up on that type of code and what is the screen resolution so screen resolution is I Record the videos in 1080p VP so HD but then I export all the animations in 4k so I have the videos are all videos are all done in 4k that's the final export and let's see education background so I actually have a business degree in finance I had originally thought I
Wanted to be an accountant and then I decided that programming was a lot more fun and essentially just became a self-taught programmer at that point got a job doing like PHP my sequel stuff and then did a lot of Ruby on Rails for a number of years and now really focused On mostly full stack JavaScript all right so I'm gonna go ahead and I think that's enough questions for now I think now it's time we should go ahead and give away the t-shirt and if I wasn't able to get to your question leave me like a comment or leave the question on Slack because a lot of these I could answer in a future livestream but let's go ahead and pull up our script and we'll give away this free t-shirt let's see here this is the script we've looked at it before it's taking this video ID pulling all the comments from the YouTube API And then it will pick a single winner from that group alright so all I have to do is click this button and then that will give us our t-shirt winner so here we go all right Samuel Camargo you were index 31 out of 125 comments keep up the Good work excellent content thank you for the comment really appreciate it and congratulations on winning the t-shirt so you get the shirt if you're on slack send me a message on slack with your address in sighs otherwise send me a direct message via email or whatever Works for you all right so I'm gonna go ahead and stop screen sharing here oh if a person comments multiple times there they're actually they are we check for uniqueness so let me see if I can get to this in the code yeah that's something that I thought of if if multiple people Comment then they should only be only have had the same chance to win as everybody else so I use this unique bye function do you check their channel ID value and that will just make sure that every person that comment it has to have a unique Google account all right so I Guess I'm gonna go ahead and wrap up the stream here like I said if you have more questions I'll try to get to these next time but this is fun and there's gonna be another t-shirt giveaway on the next video so make sure to check that out and Leave a comment we'll do the same thing next week all right thanks a lot everybody and I'll talk to you soon see ya you [ad_2] #Scenes #Videos For More Interesting Article Visit : https://mycyberbase.com/

DTeam Tumblr Demographics Survey Results (Part 2):
What does DTeamblr look like, what does it have to do with MCYT history, and why does it look like a rainbow?
I’ll make an educated guess here and say y'all enjoyed my last post (totally unrelated to the way I gained almost 50 followers overnight). Anyhow, thank you so much for the overwhelming support! I’m so glad a lot of you felt you could relate to my deep-dive into the leading personality type on DTeam Tumblr. It took me so many hours to write and research, and as a math major and honors student, it’s no easy feat, so I’m so grateful for the attention it got!
Today we’re discussing the general demographics of DTeam Tumblr and why they might look the way they do. Number 8 will blow your mind! So make sure to keep reading and hit that little grey heart and arrow at the bottom if you like it, so more people get to see it! Thanks for your support! Now, let’s jump straight into the post!
Your Daily Dose of Data
From the 449 responses we received, these are some pie charts displaying the gender, age, and sexuality of all respondents.
Tumblr media
Image Description: Female (52.8%), Non-Binary (37.4%), Male (9.8%)
Tumblr media
Image Description: 16-17 (37%), 13-15 (31.4%), 18 and over (29.4%), 12 and under (2.2%)
Tumblr media
Image Description: Bisexual/Pansexual (54.1%), Homosexual (16%), Asexual (14.7%), Other (7.8%), Heterosexual (7.3%)
Mmhm, delicious! Y'all ready to dig into these stats? Because I don’t know about you, but they certainly don’t strike me as what the general population looks like!
Welcome to Tumblr, the Only Community Where Straight Men are the Minority
So these statistics certainly didn’t take me by surprise. Mostly because the DNF Shipper Survey I took some time ago revealed a similar trend. Not to mention, Tumblr is probably the QUEEREST internet community on the planet.
Funny enough, the survey revealed a shocking number of ZERO heterosexual males respondents. I’ll say it louder for the people in the back. ZERO straight males were recorded out of 449 respondents for this survey!
Now, this isn’t surprising for the Tumblr community by itself, but I can say I’m somewhat surprised in terms of the MCYT Tumblr community. (Obviously, the survey specified DTeam Tumblr, but there is a big overlap between both communities, so I will be using them interchengably when it seems relevant.)
Let’s break this down. The survey reveals the largest age population is 16-17, though it’s not by a great margin in comparison to 13-15 and 18 and older, which doesn’t surprise me either. Some of the major critics of the DTeam Fandom and other MCYT Fandoms love to claim the fanbase’s majority age range lies with children and pre-teens. While it’s an undeniable fact children are drawn to Minecraft, it’s also a misconception to paint it as solely a community for younger viewers.
In the MCYT Tumblr and DTeam Tumblr communities, specifically, we see this is not the case. Only 1/3 of the respondents of this survey are under the age of 16 (you could attribute part of it to the fact younger people might be less inclined to participate in this survey, but it is still a notable difference). I can’t say these age ranges are similar in other parts of the community like DTeam Twitter, Tik Tok, or Reddit, but if I had to make a guess, I’d say Tumblr lies toward the older of the bunch, with Reddit being the oldest and Tik Tok being the youngest (I do hope to perform this survey on some of the other communities, so please stay until the end if you want to help with that).
One of the likely explanations to why the ages for DTeam Tumblr look this way is the fact a big chunk of the community has likely been watching MCYT for a long time (even with breaks in between). I, myself, used to watch channels like PopularMMOs, Aphmau, and PrestonPlayz as a kid, and I presume many of you are familiar with them as well. With the resurgence of MCYT in the past year, it likely drew a lot of the older viewers in addition to the new ones.
But enough about age. What I really want to highlight on this post is the attraction of queer individuals to DTeam Tumblr and MCYT as a whole.
Why is the current MCYT Fandom so queer in comparison to the previous generations?
This is a huge open-ended question and considering I can only capture so much of the DTeam and MCYT community, the rest of this post should be taken solely as a theoretical analysis as opposed to fact.
With that out of the way, let’s start by discussing the shift MCYT has undergone over the years (I promise this will circle back to the question of queerness in the MCYT fandom, but we need some background before we can come up with a decent theory).
When Minecraft was first released, it proved to be a monumental change in the gaming industry. This simple little indie game took the world by storm. It was so vastly different from what the general population generally viewed gaming as (first-person shooters, story-driven games, action games, etc.) Not to mention, it didn’t exactly solely appeal to only a small margin of gamers, those being white cis males.
The gaming industry has notoriously been known in the past for its heteronormative community and general prejudice toward minorities. Though it has gone through a significant change over the decades, we certainly can’t say it’s fully gone.
Yet for whatever reason, the recent MCYT has taken the interest of so many queer people in comparison to other gaming YouTube communities. Why? Why are queer people so drawn to this community? And, more precisely, why does it feel so different than the old MCYT? Lastly, how does this relate to the conclusion about the leading personalities of this fandom we made in the last post?
The Niche Communities of MCYT Over the Years
MCYT has always been a huge, over-saturated genre of YouTube with content appealing to a variety of audiences. It’s dominated gaming content for years, and I think we can all safely say it’s never been bigger than it is today.
So why is it that just now it feels like the queerness of the fandom is popping off? Why now as opposed to say five years ago when MCYT was at another one of it’s strongest stages?
It seems like the community has made a tremendous shift in relation to breaking gender norms and LGBTQ+ subjects, not only in the fans but within the creators themselves. Was flirting and calling a pretty-boy streamer pet names as normal in the past as it is today? Were straight gamer guys putting on dresses and a full-face of make-up as supported back then? Were “marriages” and “pregnancies” within Minecraft boys an everyday occurrence like they are now? How is it that MCYT has dominated a Twitch dating show where flirting with the gay host and among straight contestants themselves is just another bit of entertainment? Where is this all coming from?
Recently, I watched a 2 hour documentary depicting all of the stages of Minecraft YouTube and how it has changed over the years. If you haven’t seen it and you have some time to spare, I HIGHLY recommend it! It’s very informative, and it honestly gave me such a strong sense of nostalgia that makes me choke up every time I think about it. I’ll link it below.
The documentary does a great job at exploring the different niche communities that dominated MCYT since it first took off. Some of such communities include the basic Let’s Players, the team-based Let’s Play channels like How2Minecraft, the roleplay story-centric ones like Aphmau and Samgladiator, the tutorial, building and technical side like Mumbo and Grian, the PVP-centric Bedwars or Hypixel channels, the Machinima community, the comedy side like ExplosiveTNT, the parody music videos, and so many more. All of the mentioned communities have dominated Minecraft at one point or another, many of them still having a rippling effect and/or a loyal community today. All of these communities have certain aspects that define them, some of which parallel the current overtaking content in the present.
How can we compare MyStreet to the Dream SMP?
Taking Aphmau as an example, her MyStreet series had a TREMENDOUS success a few years ago, racking in millions of views and bringing in a lot of money that eventually allowed her to hire voice actors and increase the production of mentioned episodes. The roleplay series was so successful it ran for six seasons!
Now, let’s compare that to the Dream SMP. It seems like a big comparison to be making considering they appear so different at first glance. For once, Aphmau is just one channel whose audience caters toward girls and younger people who enjoy romance. The series is set-up in an episodic-format that resembles more of a TV series than actual Minecraft videos.
Meanwhile, the Dream SMP is a collection of content creators with a mix of improvised storylines and the occasional regular video that resembles more of a Let’s Play series than a RP series.
You could say the only true comparisons to draw out of these two are the popularity they had/have and the profit they brought to their respective creators.
However, there’s two other key similarities that you’ll find not only within these two specific examples, but many other channels and communities as well. Story and characters.
MyStreet’s story aspect is fairly obvious seeing as it’s a episodic series that focuses on a fictional story. The Dream SMP’s story aspect isn’t as clear, but it’s evident there is a story playing out in the foreground and background, whether intentional or unintentional, or improvised or not.
Character is where some of you might start to question me. It’s obvious MyStreet has characters. I mean, it is a fictional story, after all. But the Dream SMP? Light, they’re obviously people!
Well, my answer to that is yes and no--sort of. The Dream SMP’s story heavily relies on roleplay, bits as you might call them. Events that aren’t necessarily planned out as a fictional plot like the typical MyStreet episode is, but they aren’t exactly real. Schlatt is obviously not a villain in real life, he just likes to impersonate as one for the narrative. Wilbur isn’t crazy, but it’s a way to spice up the heroic story surrounding Tommy and him.
It’s video-game improv. Except the actors behind the content just so happen to be real people playing off the personalities and “brands” they have obtained.
Brands. It all boils down to this. In the entertainment business, without a clear vision of your project and a clear way to brand what your consumer intakes, your project will likely not find a lot of success.
There’s a reason why Tommy plays off his loudness, using an overexaggerated laugh that although may not be completely fake, it is likely not the laugh he uses everyday. Or why BadBoyHalo is this supposed innocent muffin who doesn’t understand the crafting table meme and other references that are fairly easy to google and find the meaning of. Or why Sapnap is this chaotic being who loves starting pet wars and we love to paint as an arsonist in the Dream SMP. While all of these personality traits may be a part of their true selves, they’re played up for the camera--for the story. They act as the personas that define their characters in the narrative.
They have a clear brand and vision that appeals to the audience and makes them tune in on the daily to see how they all come together. It’s like roleplaying a more extreme version of yourself, one that brings home the money.
Story and characters run across every entertainment outlet. They define their brand. Aphmau has her characters and series. Hermitcraft has a set of memorable personalities and episodic videos that formulate its own story that is less like a narrative and more of a history of the server. ExplodingTNT has his recurring cast and comedic sketches. Most of these niche communities have a form of story and character defining them. It’s how they achieve a clear sense of branding and cater to a specific audience.
Queer Theory in MCYT
Having said all that, why does the MCYT of today draw in so many queer viewers?
Let’s think about this. In my last post, I ended by mentioning DTeam Tumblr is a sort of safe haven for INFP and INxx types who might be placed in the “other” category by society. INFPs, specially, are predisposed for escapism--one common form of it being fiction and entertainment. Not to mention, INFPs are feeling types who, as introverts, seek a personable connection. It’s why it’s so easy for them to obsess over book characters or fall in love with content creators.
Now, let’s imagine a whole community of LGBTQ+ INFP and INxx types. Actually, scratch that, we don’t even have to imagine it.
It’s what our community looks like today.
And why are so many so drawn to the DTeam and Dream SMP of all things? It’s a personable storyline that essentially forms a direct tie to the viewer. Unlike pre-recorded fictional TV series you tune into on your device, the Dream SMP is a whole load of chaos that blurs the lines between reality and fiction where fans can directly connect to creators and get to know them as people through a storyline that features sub-textual queer themes and non-conforming behaviors.
The MCYT content creator community of today is more non-conforming than ever before, and knowing this whole fact, knowing that many of them might place themselves in the “other” category or at the very least aren’t afraid to break the norms and be seen in that light, is a comfort in itself for LGBTQ+ INFP types. Once again, it’s a safe space that helps you escape from the troubles of real life, one you relate to.
Okay. So although this does answer why the fans look like they do, what about the creators themselves? Are we really supposed to believe this all came through naturally? That a bunch of straight guys suddenly decided wearing dresses was something they wanted to do?
I don’t mean to sound cynical here, and I’m in no way trying to insinuate creators have solely some sort of corrupt ulterior motive. Things are never as simple as they look. However, the truth is, a part of it lies on the attention it’s gotten.
I’ve talked a lot about DreamNotFound and the way Dream uses it as a marketing ploy. I stand by my point. However, he’s not the only one who does this in the MCYT community. Why did Finn suddenly go from wearing a dress to cross-dressing as a girl for a whole week? Why are so many creators suddenly deciding wearing dresses is fun? Why does every freaking straight MCYT actively want to flirt with George nowadays?
Let’s just let Techno’s favorite word answer this for us: clout.
It gets attention from one of the largest historically underserved minority community in the entertainment business. We might not be able to see gay flirting in every Netflix TV show or guys not minding dresses and getting fake marriages, but you are certainly going to get at least one of those in every Dream SMP stream and video you tune into. It gets attention. It brings home the money. And do I blame them? Not really.
Interestingly enough, there’s a lot of analytical posts on the MCYT Tumblr community that discuss the dangers of these tactics and why gay jokes and the way queer subtext is treated by MCYT creators is harmful. Despite this, it still attracts such a huge community of queers. So why exactly would queer people actively watch something that’s offensive or harmful to us?
I have a lot more to say about this topic and the morality behind Dream’s tactics, but I’m out of breath for today, so I’ll talk about it in my next post. What better way to start the conversation about the DNF and Karlnap questions of the survey than a good ol’ discussion on the morality of queerbaiting and the likes?
If you got this far, I’d appreciate it if you liked and reblogged this post if you enjoyed it and/or learned something new! Also, important news, I would really like to perform a similar study on the DTeam Twitter Community to measure the differences in demographics across platforms. I would REALLY appreciate it if you guys could go like, retweet and share the link I posted on my Twitter about it (tweet will be linked in the reblog below) so it reaches more of the DTeam Twitter community!
However, if you filled out the survey yourself here or you associate more with DTeam Tumblr than DTeam Twitter please DO NOT fill out the survey again! I’m trying to make sure it reaches the audience that mains on Twitter, but I need a little help with that since I don’t have as big of an influence on Twitter than on here for obvious reasons.
Anyhow, thank you so much for all your support! I really appreciate y’all and make sure to hit the follow if you want to lookout for the next demographics post! <3
(Pssst, I’m releasing a MCYT DNF superpower AU longfic next month... You should totally go check out the post on that if you’re interested in it...)

More Female Characters to Avoid in Your Writing
A long while back, I typed up some posts ranting about characters and tropes I disliked.  These were Male and Female Characters to Avoid in Your Writing, and they’ve become my most popular posts yet.  Recently, I was struck by some topical inspiration, and decided it was time for a sequel!
One again, these are my personal, subjective opinions!  No one dictates your writing or portrayals but you, and no one can or should decide how you consume fiction.  Also, as you may notice, I actually like most of the ladies below;  I just don’t like certain aspects of their portrayal.
Enjoy, and happy writing everybody!
1.  The Daenerys (i.e. the spontaneous war criminal)
Tumblr media
Who she is:
The formerly heroic Mother of Dragons, who randomly charbroiled a city full of innocent people.
Why it sucks:
I’m not even talking about this from a feminist standpoint, or how one of the most consistently heroic and powerful female characters took an abrupt and undignified backflip into the Dark Side.  I’m speaking from a writer’s standpoint.
Regardless of whether you liked Daenerys, she was rivaled only by Jon and Brienne as the show’s most consistently heroic character  From locking away her dragon children to ensure the safety of her subjects, to freeing countless enslaved citizens, she’s spent a decade proving herself to be an altruistic and noble figure.  And then, in the final two episodes of the entire show, the writers dracarys-ed that shit.
For some comparison, just imagine how ridiculous it would be if Jon Snow suddenly went batshit and started hacking up citizens because he was feeling stressed.  That’s about as plausible as Dany’s sudden passion for genocide.
And for the record, I’m not opposed to Daenerys becoming Mad Queen.  If it was done properly. This would mean informing the actress far in advance so she could modify her portrayal accordingly (which they didn’t), and building up to it through foreshadowing and established attributes.  Not at the last fucking minute.
Honestly, the only characters who remained narratively consistent to the very end are Drogon and Ghost, who are both precious babies who did nothing wrong.
How to avoid her:
Decide as early as possible where a character arc is going.  Contrary to what Game of Thrones seems to believe, the character arc is important.  It should have a beginning, challenges that incite development, and a satisfying conclusion that showcases how a character has changed and evolved.
And if you didn’t decide early?  You still have to come up with a conclusion that makes sense for your character, and not slap on the most unexpected ending possible in the name of Subverting Expectations.
On that note?  Subverting expectations isn’t always a good thing, and a reader predicting your ending isn’t the worst possible outcome.  Focus on telling a good story.
2.  The Rayon (i.e. the transgender stereotype)
Who she is:
A transgender woman (portrayed by the male, cisgender Jared Leto) dying slowly of AIDS in Dallas Buyer’s Club.  Her role in the narrative is to teach the supposedly heterosexual (more on that later) main character that queer people are human beings.
Why it sucks:
Rayon is many things in Buyer’s Club, and most are firmly rooted in stereotypes.  She’s a sassy, flirtatious, clothing-obsessed, self-loathing, drug-addicted prostitute.   She’s hypersexual, but never treated as romantically desirable.  She’s tragic, but also one of the few consistently comedic characters in an otherwise bleak film.
It’s her job to gently goad the main character into treating her with basic respect, but he never quite gets there.  He refers to her with male pronouns throughout the entire film, and never acknowledges her as a woman.  At one point, he aims a gun at her genitals and offers her a “sex change operation.”  Which, is supposed to be comedic.
This isn’t to say that there are no sassy, flirtatious, clothing-obsessed, self-loathing, drug-addicted transgender sex workers, nor is there anything wrong with “stereotypical” trans people.  It isn’t the job of the marginalized to dispel stereotypes.  And if real trans people had created and portrayed Rayon, she could have been a realistic, dynamic, and compelling character.
And I say “created” because Rayon is strictly fictional.  Outside of this film, she didn’t exist.
“Well, at least they tried to offer representation!”  you protest.  “What else was it supposed to be about?  A straight dude in the AIDS epidemic?”
Well, no.  Though the main character, Ron Woodroof, is presented to us as a violently homophobic, transphobic, womanizing asshole, the real Woodroof was, by all accounts, kind-hearted, open-minded, and bisexual.
What could have been a powerful story of a queer man defying his diagnosis, living joyfully and meaningfully, and helping to prolong the lives of countless AIDS-sufferers, was instead watered down to a story of a straight, pugnacious asshole and his stereotypical, long-suffering, transgender sidekick who dies to Teach Him Compassion.
How to avoid her:
Read books by trans people.  Consume media they create or endorse.
List of youtube channels created by trans people here, and 21 books for trans awareness month here.
Put out a special call for transgender beta readers to point out mistakes, misconceptions, and offer tips on an authentic portrayal.
Garner insight into their perspective and experiences, and give them personalities outside of being trans.
3.  The Piper Chapman (i.e. the unflavored oatmeal)
Tumblr media
GIF source
Who she is:
The “protagonist” of Orange is the New Black, and its least compelling character.  She and Larry are the sort of people who would ask me for a threesome on Tinder.
Why it sucks:
Piper’s hook is that she’s a privileged, affluent white woman who unjustly finds herself in prison for -- well, for crimes she committed.  But expected to get away with, because, Privilege.
This isn’t to say Piper is boring.  She’s far from likable, but being likable and being boring aren’t the same thing.  In another series, watching a relatively cushioned, naive, bourgeoisie woman string along various significant others, thoughtlessly incite violence, and navigate an unfamiliar prison setting would make for thought-provoking and hilarious satire.
But when compared to her charismatic supporting cast, with richly developed backstories, motivations, and relationships, she’s painfully bland.  I would much rather watch a series centered around Suzanne, Nikki, Taystee, Poussey, or even Pennsatucky.  They’re just more developed, opulent, enjoyable characters.
It could be argued that Piper is the viewpoint character, whom the audience is supposed to relate to.  But I can assert that I don’t relate to Piper.  At all.  Her lack of empathy towards others -- such as leaving Alex after the death of her mother, cheating on her fiance, and inadvertently starting a *ahem* white power gang -- alienated me to her.
Which might not be such a bad thing, but Piper is (supposedly) the protagonist.  We don’t need to like her, but we should probably be able to relate to her.
Or maybe I’m just jealous that hot women aren’t inexplicably fighting over me.
How to avoid her:
Your protagonist doesn’t have to be the most likable character in your story.  They don’t even necessarily have to be the most interesting character in your story.  And certainly not the most morally good, powerful, or knowledgeable.  But the viewpoint character is the character who we spend the most time with, and from whose eyes we perceive the story.  It’s important that we understand and relate to them emotionally.
Look at examples like BoJack Horseman, Holden Caulfield, Tony Soprano, Beatrix from Kill Bill, Mavis from Young Adult, Nadia from Russian Doll.  All are complex characters, with varying degrees of moral ambiguity.  Yet we can empathize with them emotionally and identify with them.  Even if we’ve never been in their situation, we see where they’re coming from.
4.  The Charlie (i.e. the dead lesbian)
Who she is:
One of the few recurring openly queer characters in the incredibly long-running Supernatural.  A lesbian who’s journey was (sort of) brought to an end when she was killed and dumped in a bathtub to incite drama.
Why it sucks:
I love Supernatural  but it can be remarkably tone deaf towards queer people, women, and marginalized groups.  Which, probably merits fixing, considering its following is largely comprised of queer people, women, and marginalized groups.
I probably shouldn’t have to explain why killing off women and queer people for drama is Bad, but I’ll delve into its history a little:  from what I’ve read, censorship laws of the twentieth century forbade the portrayal of queer people unless they were ultimately killed or “reformed.”  This is why so much LGBTQ+ fiction is essentially gay tragedy porn, and why gays are so frequently buried to aid in the emotional narrative of their straight counterparts.
That’s not to say queer people can never be killed off.  I might not have an issue with Charlie’s death (especially in a show as violent as Supernatural), if she weren’t the only openly queer character at the time.
And there’s plenty of room for representation!  If Dean was openly bisexual, if angels were vocally confirmed to be nonbinary, and if there were more recurring, respectfully portrayed female and sapphic characters, Charlie’s death might not feel like such as slap in the face.  But as it is, it feels like a contribution to an ugly pattern.
In fairness, Supernatural has since improved in its portrayal of queer people:  two gay male hunters were introduced and given a happy ending, an alternate universe version of Charlie was introduced to the cast, and God is portrayed as a bisexual man.
Yes.  All of that happened.  You have to see it to understand.
How to avoid her:
Educate yourself on the history of censorship in the LGBTQ+ community, as well as hate crimes and decreased life expectancy.  Make sure you aren’t contributing to the suffering of queer people.
If you have only one confirmed queer character in the midst of a very large cast, I’m inclined to think you need more.  You could say I’m BI-ased on the matter, though.
Look up “fridging,” and think about how many stories use the death of female characters to incite drama for men.
5.  The Allison (i.e. the reformed feminine)
Tumblr media
GIF source
Who she is:
She’s one of the most interesting members of the Breakfast Club, and that’s saying something.  A self-proclaimed compulsive liar who will “do anything sexual” with or without the promise of a million dollars (as well as one of the most quotable characters in the film) she demonstrates the emotional pain and complexity that’s often ignored or shrugged off as teen angst.
And then she gets a makeover and a hot boyfriend, and suddenly everything’s better.
Why it sucks:
It would be one thing if Allison’s problem was that she didn’t feel pretty or desirable.  But she never (to my recollection) offers any indication of that, and that’s part of what makes her such a refreshing portrayal of insecurity.  She’s emotionally neglected by her parents, and that is appropriately treated as devastating.
It’s a complex and beautifully-portrayed problem that deserved far more than such a superficial, slapped-on solution.
Similarly, there’s no reason why Allison is paired up with the jock at the end of the film.  Neither showed any romantic interest in one another until her unnecessary makeover.
A much better ending to her arc would be her finding acceptance among her newfound friends, and finally garner the recognition and acknowledgement she never got from her parents.
I was torn between using Allison for this example, or Sandy’s makeover from Grease.  In both, girls are encouraged to alter their appearances to solve plot-related problems.  And both were “fixed” to conform to some standard of femininity or feminine sexuality that they didn’t meet before.
How to avoid her:
If a character feels the need to change their appearance to accommodate others or be respected, that should probably be treated as a negative thing.
Your character’s appearance can be a good tool to represent emotional changes.  If they alter their appearance, there should be a meaningful reason behind it -- outside of fitting into societal norms or garnering the approval of others.
A girl putting on makeup isn’t a groundbreaking plot point, and girls who don’t perform to standards of femininity aren’t broken or deficient.  They don’t need “correcting.”

she became a public trainee when samsung commercials were aired yet she was a group with sunmi ( and*roma darae ),  hyuna ( k.arma ) and yul so she wasn’t noticed that much especially when she was wearing waitress outfit too. minhee has expressed how nerve-wracking it was during live stream when someone asked about how she was signed during samsung c&t auditions and literally throw into deep end doing this commercial as she had no experience but she was thankful for that happening as she discovered the love for acting there.
minhee is the girl in the convex music video which every other fangirl wishes to be, she felt so lucky to get that role and all the boys are wonderful to work with. she never said who’s her bias or not in convex as she didn’t want people to assume things.
she attended convex showcase with her big brother dong-wook who’s friends with rome ( minho, ex convex member )  and woohyun ( royal ).
minhee was known for being cold-hearted through her school years due to rejecting boys who confess to her without a second thought, girls didn’t like her either cause of it. her only friends she had at school was jieun ( npc ), minsoo ( npc ), kangjoon ( vici ) and dahye ( npc ) she was a good student barely got in trouble, her grades were average she wasn’t smartest or dumbest so she had to worked hard to do well.
minhee was center in sphere trainees flower touch opening performance for She’z at the end of year special samsung concert in jeju in 2019. she didn’t felt she deserve such a role as her dancing was only okay back then nothing to sing high praises but on the other hand she felt honoured to be the center for that performance.
she expressed sadness about CONVEX members leaving since they were her friends and they did trained together however she got into trouble for posting this message on SNS since it caught the attention of the netizens and twisted into making out Sphere isn’t such nice company after all.
it’s known she’s Hong Jinyoung fangirl and expresses that her jinyoung sunbae hard-working attitude aspires to be just like her she would love to be on a variety show with her since they would be good friends. Minhee also can do impression of her voice too since she adores trot music and it’s fun variety trick of hers.
she’s very open about doing charity work and the fact she volunteered at dog shelter to overcome her fears of dogs. due to her busy trainee schedule, she wasn’t able to do much charity so when SPHERE did Green Ribbon Running & Busking Festival and she got perform at charitable cause it really made her really happy. Whoever saw that performance could really see Minhee was filled with joy.
minhee is a host on SAMSUNG STATION SHOW IQs alongside Gahyeon Shiah & Chanyeol who is lucky enough to meet other idols like K.ARMA Kil & Doyeon, BERRY GOOD’s Daye and Sehyung and ECLIPSE Blue & Haseul. networking is important so she likes to befriend them as possible and excited to see who else she will met. [ Note: It will be public information about these people when the episodes are aired nothing earlier ]
minhee is a friendly person, it has been well-recorded how pleasant she is when meets other people especially fans of her youtube channel. by the fact she got a lot of fancy friends around her made it even more obvious what type of person she is.
#BEKIND became her brand after samsung c&t commercial since that was the theme of it, she carried that message throughout her social media posts stating how important it supports others rather than stepping over to get where you want in life.
she can dance to any SHE’Z choreography without thinking since she always performed their songs under sphere and she is a fangirl of their discography. minhee always wanted to debut in a similar concept to her sunbaes.
in her youtube streams, she always expressed that she suffers from anxiety and stresses it’s completely normal then goes on to explains coping methods she uses. minhee shared that she believed that she is not the best at anything but she is a hard worker so strives to always her best no matter what. She encourages her viewers to chase after their dreams as long they are willing to work hardest and they want it 1001% otherwise there is no point of trying your heart must be in it if they wish to succeed.
When she goes on stage now, she is more comfortable and confident due to her practice and some experience doing little odd shows at clubs on Sunday evenings. She tends to quite sensual while performing yet throws in cute love hearts during the performance too with a brilliant smile. Minhee wants to embody the meaning of cute & sexy instead of being called cute since she is a grown woman after all.

Hey folks. Scott (Kaiser) here.
There's been a lot of talk the last year about what the future of DragonBall Z Abridged is, and while we've tried to update people, we've failed at making things crystal clear to everyone.
We're planning on a full video talking about it, but we want to make sure that we can give you the full rundown, now that we've made our final decisions.
We currently have no plans on continuing with the Buu Saga, in the our original style, or in the style of the ShortZ, at this time.
Recently, we publicly announced that DBZA will not continue via the original footage ala our classic method of Abridging. However, we talked publicly about possibly moving forward with the Buu Saga via the same animation provided in the ShortZ.
Unfortunately, after serious deliberation, we currently find this process untenable.
For those of you with questions, I'm going to try to address them here:
"You guys promised Season 4 of DBZA. Why did this change?"
Several factors.
1. The ending of the Cell Saga gave us a sense of finality that is impossible for us to escape. We put our hearts and souls into making that finale stand out, and everything we've worked on with the original footage since has left us feeling hollow. This is a distinctly personal reason, but it's also incredibly important. Many shows lose steam as time goes on as the creators extend their work far beyond its natural lifespan; we're feeling that with this, and that's a scary, depressing thought.
We don't want to end up like The Simpsons, Dexter, Scrubs M.D., just to name a few.
And yes, we know, there's more story to work with. But in all honesty... there just isn't the emotional attachment and passion for the arc that drove the last three seasons. This is another, very personal reason, but it's unavoidable.
We do not enjoy tearing down and mocking the things we love. We want to celebrate them, expand on them, explore them, and sometimes make light of their shortcomings. That's what gave you the best of DBZA up until now, and ultimately, we find ourselves at odds with that approach and the majority of the Buu Saga.
2. We're burned out on the original method, in general. It's been an absolute blast to bring DBZA to life, but after 11 years of the same project... it's gotten oppressive. Which, again, is a scary thought.
I love DBZA, more than anyone on the planet. Not because it gave me this job, not because it helped pay the bills, not because it got me invited to conventions.
Because it made me a better person. A better writer, a better director, a better actor, a better editor, a better worker. I learned so much while working on DBZA, and I got to express my love for comedy, drama, and DragonBall to the world. Anyone who's seen me talk live about the finale of 60 has seen me coming to tears when talking about how proud I was to show it to everyone, and how overwhelmed I was to hear such a positive response. Just how happy I was to be able to share something I worked on with all my heart with all of you guys.
The idea that we could come to resent the series by forcing ourselves to work on it past the point where we feel artistically fulfilled? That's awful. And I honestly hope you all can understand why.
But it's not just me: Nick and Curt have also lost their steam with this approach, due to the limiting nature of the production, and our aforementioned perspective on the Buu Saga as a whole.
3. Our YouTube channel is our primary source of revenue. While the Patreon absolutely has helped us with several new projects (episode 5 of Unabridged is now in the can, and we continue filming early February), the lifeline that sustains the company is our main channel.
Copyright claims have put us at risk of losing that channel, and our livelihoods in jeopardy. We have our employees to look out for; our friends, our colleagues, and doing right by them—by striving to create original, monetizable, copyright friendly content, that also carries our heart and soul as creatives—is undeniably important.
We've thought about hosting DBZA on other sites, but nowhere has been safe, and worse, it would serve to draw attention away from our hub, which ultimately could lead to less views, less support, and either the scaling back or collapse of our company.
And frankly—and I say this with all due respect—the expansion of our company, to better fulfill the creative wants and needs of our employees, and the financial stability of all therein, is paramount here.
4. Our relationships with other companies have been strained by the nature of DBZA.
Fair-use exists in a nebulous area; even though we believe in it wholeheartedly, that doesn't mean there's no trouble between us and the copyright holders, and that tension leaks into the ecosystem in which we look to coexist with other companies. As writers, actors, etc.
We want to ease this tension moving forward.
5. We mentioned the nebulous nature of copyright. Over the course of the last 11 years, we've avoided major legal challenges, but we cannot continue to press our luck in this regard. We want to live in a less gray area, without the Sword of Damocles above our heads.
"When was this decision made?"
There is no concrete date, but it was in October, 2019 that we decided to no longer use the footage at all.
It started late August/early September. We'd been working on the script for Bojack since May, and had been struggling to get anything of substance down on paper. While it wasn't a complete wash, we weren't happy with the bulk of it. We'd also restarted the scripting process a couple times, trying to approach it from different angles, but we found ourselves at wit's end.
So we started to reflect and talk about the nature of our struggling, and Nick, Curt, and I came to the conclusions I gave you above.
At that time, we'd already written out several of the ShortZ and were looking to get moving on those before the year's end. They were originally conceived solely as connective tissue between Cell and Buu. We quickly realized that, if we could get things rolling, we could possibly continue working on DragonBall Abridged via the ShortZ, potentially solving a majority of our problems.
https://www.reddit.com/r/TeamFourStar/comments/d5blur/setting_the_bojack_record_straight_and_more_from/
I actually made this post over on the Reddit after Bojack was cancelled and we totally borked the announcement of said cancellation. It reflects a lot of what's said here.
However... it was over the course of the last two weeks that we started to realize:
Continuing via the ShortZ was untenable as well.
"You mentioned continuing via the ShortZ. What changed?"
Imagine you're a child wanting a puppy. You beg your parents all year, and then they say, "Alright then, we'll get you that puppy for Christmas!" Then Christmas comes around, and they hand you a box. A wrapped box. And in that wrapped box isn't a puppy, but a WowWee Chippies Robot Toy Dog.
Tumblr media
While there are plenty of fans who've cheered this on, for all the freedom it allows us, and the ability for us to monetize it, the drop in visual quality and change in overall tone and style ultimately make the Buu Saga a lesser version of what we've provided for years.
Furthermore, the time to actually produce an entire season with this new animation would put the series off for an unbelievably long time, and unfortunately be incredibly costly.
The ShortZ will continue, but we have no intention at this time to utilize them as a way to cover the Buu Saga.
"What of us who are contributing specifically for DBZA?"
We have continuously, time and time again, tried to communicate that this Patreon was not made to fund DBZA. It was made to fund projects outside of DBZA, while maintaining our production of our keystone project through to its completion. It has helped fund FFVII Machinabridged, AWF, Unabridged, Fist Master, Super Knock-Off VS., X Minutes, Cell VS., [Unannounced Project(s)], and essentially all non-mainline DBZA content.
But there's an unavoidable truth here: We promised DBZA would continue beside those projects, and that they would not interfere with its production in any meaningful manner. We also announced Season 4 at the end of Episode 60 in September 2018, leading people to believe that the show—as they knew it—would continue as per the usual.
Anyone who was looking to secure the creation specifically of DBZA Season 4 via their patronage will likely feel frustrated or even betrayed by this reveal, and we're sorry about that.
We also failed in our communication in a timely manner. The moment we decided that DBZA was not happening in it's traditional capacity should've prompted a much quicker announcement to that effect. Please understand that the biggest driving factor behind not saying anything was that we desperately wanted to have a real plan for you folks moving forward, not just bad news and a vague idea. As you can see, even debates on providing the Buu Saga via the ShortZ was not something we'd come to a conclusion on until these last couple weeks.
But we accept the responsibility and blame for keeping you in the dark for too long, regarding DBZA.
So I ask of you this: If you are a Patron solely—or even primarily—in hopes of funding traditional DBZA, please consider ceasing your patronage. If you continue to donate for any particular reason, thank you so very much. But if you don't feel that you are getting your money's worth, we truthfully understand, we will not blame you for choosing not to continue to support us, and we appreciate all the support you've given us thus far.
We will not judge you for being discerning with your own incomes and time, nor will we feel scorned.
"Is there any chance you'll change your mind?"
I cannot say so. We've made this decision and it's what we truly feel is best for us moving forward.
If you guys have any more questions, I'll make myself available in the comments section.
Thank you for your time and your support. I hope you'll continue to see us into new horizons, but as we said before: We will respect your decisions, whatever they are. Thank you for your support,

And that’s where I was told to split the episode.
Well!  This is...oof.  I got SO much secondhand embarrassment from Luz challenging Amity to a duel.  That was a rough patch that lasted MUCH longer for me because of the way I watch these episodes.
Oh, man.  All Luz can do is cast light spells, and not very quickly at that.  How is she going to overcome Amity?  I guess she could firebomb her with a giant one like she did with Eda, but how would she go about setting that up?
I wonder if there are any rules about decking your opponent in the schnoz.
That’s going to be all for tonight--I’m rapidly approaching the post limit anyways, and I want to get a good night’s sleep for tomorrow’s liveblogging.   Before I go to bed, though, a request: One of my bigger patrons ended their patronage, so I’m going to be out a fair bit of money this month. If any of you would be willing to pledge a few dollars to my Patreon, I would be endlessly grateful.  If you’re willing to shoot me a few dollars directly, that would be wonderful too!  This isn’t a super emergency or anything, but I don’t know how much less money than I was expecting I’m going to wind up getting, so please help if you can.
Thank you all for tuning in, and thank you to my 53 patrons who make it so I can do this for a living!  I’ll see you tomorrow!

Introduction
Hello!
I go by EarlOfLakes or just Roy online, and I’ve decided to somehow rewatch all of Ranma 1/2!
Why Ranma 1/2?
Back in early high school, when I was just starting to realize anime was a thing that existed and I could watch it online, I got a recommendation for an older series called Ranma 1/2 from a webcomic creator I followed online. Over the course of the next few years, I watched every episode, all the OVA’s, both movies at least 3 times each.
If you don’t know much about the series, allow me to inform you of the fact there are 161 episodes of the main series, 12 OVA’s (at the time), plus two full length films.
Back then it was my favorite anime, but as I matured and saw more series, and experience more media in general, it started to fade in my mind just a bit. I still enjoyed it, but it almost felt like a cringey thing I liked from easily the cringiest period of my life. Still, even through the more wince-inducing aspects of the show, I still fondly remember the lovable characters, the excellent fight scenes, and the romances I invested myself into.
Recently though, several factors, including the siren call of lovely Ranma fanart and posts here on Tumblr, have made me want to go back through it all. And to hold me to it, and make sure I do it, I thought I’d make a blog to chronicle my journey so anyone who wants to can follow along.
It’ll also be interesting to cover because my knowledge of literary Queer Theory is something I’ve studied a lot of since I last saw the show, and I wasn’t openly a member of the LGTBQ+ community at the time either. Now, if you don’t like the idea of me ‘bringing queer stuff into Ranma’, I humbly invite you to close the window. Ranma 1/2 is a series that is absolutely full of interesting exploration of gender, even if some of it reads a little clumsy considering how long ago it was originally made. As for sexuality, well, if you want to tell me same sex relations has nothing to do with Ranma, then clearly you have never been on a fan fiction website before, and I pity you.
Why Would I Want to Read That?
Well, uh, I don’t really know you, so I don’t know. But personally, I’ve always found reading or watching people going through a series to be really fascinating. I also will be trying to make these posts informative, analytical, and entertaining. Plus, if you want to, maybe you can watch through with me?
How exactly will the posts work?
Thank you for asking that very specific question!
Each post will begin with a brief prerewatching thought dump about what I remember about the episode, then after watching it there will be a basic summary, my thoughts and analysis, stuff like that. I’ll also try to have a character spotlight each episode, so I can focus in on specific characters. I’ll also be ranking the episodes at the end of each post.
Another interesting aspect will be the fact I’ll actually be watching each episode twice: once dubbed and one subbed. I’ve never actually seen much of the subbed version before, because I generally prefer dubs, but I thought being able to directly compare them this time around would be interesting.
I’ve yet to find an easy way to make chronologically sorting through posts easy, but I will be tagging each post by its episode number and name.
What if (hypothetically) I end up liking these and want to see more of your stuff?
Well, right now my other online presence is through another blog, Wright Wednesday, where me and my friend Samuel from the YouTube channel Games as Literature are doing something like this, but for cases of the Ace Attorney series. You can find that here: https://wrightwednesday.blogspot.com/
I also have a Twitter at https://twitter.com/EarlOfLakes

aaa hi lil angel, i just wanna pop in and say thank you for your post about unus annus and not watchin everything if it makes you uncomfy (and memento-markimori too!). when the first video dropped i felt my tummy drop cos i'm really sex-repulsed to the point where it really messes me up in my head and my anxiety goes full chokey and makes my body go all bad too, and i was so afraid when i thought about pushing myself to watch it (i didn't), and your post helped me stop feelin like a lil fraud
aw, thank you for this nice ask!!
Yeah, although I know a lot of us are out here having wild time with this new channel and the crazy videos they put out, I totally understand that this stuff is not for everyone. We’re only like 10-ish days in and they’ve already done a lot of weird shit, so I can only imagine it’s gonna get crazier and probably more uncomfortable (the second cupping video nearly made me lose it, i thought I was gonna throw up so bad ngl cus I hate body stuff) And it is TOTALLY FINE not to watch any (or all, for that matter) of the videos if it’s not something you’re down for.
we sometimes get this weird mentality as fans that we have to watch absolutely every video a youtuber puts out or every single episode of a tv show or be the first to see a movie when it comes out etc. etc. or we’re not a “REAL FAN” anymore and we don’t deserve to be a part of the community. However in reality, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. There is no “you must watch this many videos to enter” or “you must know this much about x or y to be a fan” when being a part of a fandom community. You’re a fan and part of the community if YOU decide you are, no matter how much or little you watch. There’s enough gatekeeping in the world already, the last thing we need is to gatekeep ourselves as well.
As a recent personal example-- I haven’t been watching Jacksepticeye as often in the past few months just because I didn’t really vibe with the Minecraft content and all the Pewdiepie collabs. Some people love that stuff and that’s ok, but I know it’s just not really the content I’m interested in consuming. However, even though I haven’t been watching every single vid Sean puts out, I still consider myself to be a part of the Jacksepticeye community here on Tumblr, and even though sometimes I don’t get the particular memes or references people are making about these videos i didn’t want to watch and it’s easy to feel kind of left out, I remind myself that there’s sure to be more content coming that I WILL enjoy and I’m still part of the community because I decided I am.
TL:DR; There’s gonna be so much content coming out in the next year that’s not unus annus and there is NO SHAME in not watching anything you don’t want to, or even taking a break from social media if people talking about the content makes you uncomfortable either. All of this is supposed to be fun, and there’s nothing wrong in stepping back and removing yourself from any content you don’t vibe with, and it doesn’t make you less of a fan or less a part of the community for doing so. We appreciate you no matter how much or little you participate!!
Thanks for the ask!!

write the year you were born and bold what you do
born in: 1998.
Millennial
Binging Netflix a lot: I’ve certainly been doing that recently with watching several episodes of Queer Eye or Descendants of the Sun, but I only have phases of it that come by very seldom. Always Snapchatting everything: I used to. I stopped using Snapchat regularly around 2017, when my depression was at its boiling point and I couldn’t keep the account up. In the end I never got around to reviving it even when I got better. Struggling with Instagram captions: I don’t have an Instagram. Always having to delete stuff because of full storage: Not because of full storage since my phone and laptop have a pretty large memory, but because I never like storing too much stuff on my gadgets especially if I don’t need a large chunk of them. Tl;dr I always delete stuff because I don’t want to end up with full storage to begin with. Eating out at a place you discovered on Instagram: No Instagram, but I do check out restaurants that are getting traction on other social media, like Facebook.
(holy crap, definitely not at all a millennial looking at my first few answers)
Used iPods/MP3 players to listen to music: Only up until high school. I have the Spotify app on my phone and laptop if I want to listen to my music. Wanted a flip phone before iPhones were invented: Yeah, because flip phones were popular first before iPhones even existed. I did get my flip phone for Christmas 2007, when I was 9. That baby could last a war; I once dropped it all the way to the ground when I was being tossed around on a fair ride and it turned out okay. Can’t help but post everything on social media: This was me as a teenager when I still felt like releasing everything about my life on Twitter. I’ve toned it down so much ever since then, and it’s been a lot better that way. Have/had/want acrylic nails: No/no/no. Always looking at the phone: Unless I’m with good friends that I want to be spending time with, I could never put my phone down, yeah. Use a bunch of hashtags: Ugh no... only much older people, at least where I live, bombard their posts with many and extremely long hashtags. It’s lost its original meaning so I never really use them anymore. Have tattoos or piercings: I have piercings on my ears. That’s it, though. Shop online: I’ve done it once or twice, but I prefer seeing and getting a sense of a product before I buy it. I only shop online if I’m too busy to drop by a store. Eat a lot of avocado/avocado food: I like dishes with avocado, and I’ll eat them every time, but I don’t get to encounter them often. Closet is full of unnecessary clothes: It has some unnecessary clothes here and there but my wardrobe isn’t THAT useless lol. I still like most of the clothes that I have. Get your food delivered: Yeup, especially if we’re in Skywalk and just waiting for our next class, or if we’re too lazy to go to the mall altogether. Love drinking coffee: Yes. I always wanna try out different kinds of coffee, too. Use public transport a lot: No thanks. Unless they fix up the nasty, neglected public transport here, I won’t feel sorry using my private car.   Eat a lot of takeout food: Isn’t that kinda the same thing as delivered food though? Buy clothes or things you don’t necessarily need: Sometimes I’ll buy useless, novelty stuff just because I find them fun when I first see them, but I make sure it doesn’t blow up into an unhealthy habit of dropping my money on absolutely anything. Work out/go to the gym/want to be fit: No/no/no. Focus on self-love: Uh, I guess. I’m working on it and it’s looking like this these days, so there’s that. I address my self-destructive behaviors more responsibly now, too. Have at least one entertainment site subscription: I’ve never been subscribed to anything. Love traveling/traveled overseas recently: LOL no. My last trip was last August. Spend too much money: Shhhhhhhhhhhh
Gen Z
Spend most of your time online: Yeah, I’m constantly online and I think most of us are? Even if I’m not using my phone I’m connected to the internet and I’ll still get notifications from Messenger; I’m sure it’s the same with most people, unless they deliberately turn off notifications or have a spotty connection.
Procrastinate 24/7: For tasks I don’t enjoy doing as much. If I’m invested in something, or if I know that I can’t afford to procrastinate on a certain job, I do it early on. Consume too much tv/media content: People universally consume media every minute of the day, if not every second. You have your phones, television, newspapers, novels, billboards, music, signs, radio, etc.  Know a lot about technology: Enough to get by. I can’t fix a computer or hack a website though, if that’s what you mean by ‘know a lot.’ Aware and accepting of diversity: Everybody should be, and the only exception to this is for people who support causes that hurt the marginalized. Binge Netflix: I already answered this. Enjoy creating things: I’m not very creative, so no. I like being crafty, but only if a head start has already been provided, like paint-by-numbers kits where I’ll know where the different colors would go so that the end product looks nice. Share a lot on social media: I already answered this too... I guess millennials and Gen X’ers are similar in a lot of ways, still. Prefer to do things digitally: For sure. It’s quicker, more instant, and more convenient. Also it saves me from having to talk to more people than I would like to interact with on a daily or weekly basis. Grew up in a digital world: Pretty much. We had several game consoles at home growing up, I spent my days watching TV, and by the time I was born my parents were already regularly using a computer, mainly to send emails because my dad works overseas.  Talk to friends online more than in person: This would be accurate now, but before this whole mess started I was in school for most of my days and was always around people. I probably only spent eight hours at home everyday, and the rest of the time I was at school. Have met a lot of new people online: For sure. I’ve been on the internet since I was ten and I was exposed to social media from day one since the very idea of seeing other people who are also online fascinated me as a kid. I’ve jumped from fandom to fandom and joined a number of online communities in the last 12 years, so I’m constantly interacting with people from the internet. Prefer digital books to hard copy: I read digital copies more often now, but I do still prefer physical copies since the former can be distracting. I don’t have a Kindle, so reading books from my laptop or iPad will sometimes make me check social media from time to time. The books I’m mostly into (wrestling autobiographies) are never available here though, and I have had to digitally download 96% of the ones I’ve read; but I have no problems with that. Career-focused: Yeah, and I think the pandemic has strengthened that mindset further too. Prefer online shopping over physical: I’m not a serial online shopper so for now I’m not too sold on it and would rather go to a physical store. Idk, it might change though. Interested in things like fashion, beauty, and health: Kinda, no, and no. Watch a lot of YouTubers: Not anymore. I watch more channels that consist of a group of people than vloggers these days. Aware of world issues and want to help: In any way I can. Eat a lot of fast food: I don’t eat them an abnormal amount, but I do enjoy a Big Mac or Jollibee spaghetti every once in a while. People your age are Insta “baddies” and “influencers”: I mean this is more of an established fact than a sentiment I hold, don’t you think? I was born in 1998, so yeah I’m definitely a part of the general age range for today’s influencers and popular people on social media.

Against All Odds
Me, @exxiah and @coin-tricks-and-thirium piece for the April may event in the BPS server! @exxiah did the art, and me and @coin-tricks-and-thirium did the story.
Art is here: https://exxiah.tumblr.com/post/185180352385/enjoy-this-collection-of-krii7y-art-please-go
Soulmates were many things. First off, they were colorful. It was what defined them, after all, the swirling blues and greens and purples and reds that covered those who had met their destined. The colors were taught in health classes, small units covering what the colors meant, where the colors spread. Blues were platonic, blooming from touches of friendship and laughter. Those lucky enough to find their soulmates would see spirals of blue covering their fingers, their hands, from where they had just greeted a stranger, or splashes covering shoulders and arms where they had ran into each other. Red was for romantic love, kisses and dates and crushes and confessions. Delicate pink circles draw out over lips, a complicated and permanent lipstick from a first kiss, or ruby red decorating thighs for a first time. Yellow marked everything else, golden stripes decorating a torso for an anniversary, or neon fingertips from nervous confrontations.
Soulmates were rare. With billions of people in the world, and only one match, it’s nearly impossible to find yours. Out of everyone, there was little over 10,000 recorded at any given time. Because of this, the very few lucky ones, those who were blessed to meet their perfect match, tended to become famous. In olden days, they were renowned as deities, or gifts from them, and given castles and temples and sacrifices in hopes of good fortune raining upon their civilizations. In current times, soulmates made autobiographies and blogs and tv shows, regardless of how much effort they put in. After all, if you can’t have something, you may as well enjoy someone else having it.
Last of all, soulmates were desired. Of course they were; who wouldn’t want to spend the rest of their lives with a perfect match, the one they were destined to love? Before the internet, people would circumvent the globe, spending fortunes on traveling abroad in hopes of finding their match. Nowadays, it was different. Easier communication allowed for distance to not play a factor, and language barriers faded into minor inconveniences because of translator failures. However, it was harder to know when you had found your soulmate, without the colors created from touch. Scientists and engineers and entrepreneurs attempted time and time again to find technology that could create the same reaction as physical touch in soulmates, but it was difficult, for test subjects were practically nonexistent.
John didn’t care about any of that. Sure, it was interesting to hear about, but it wouldn’t affect him. He had given up finding his soulmate when he was a teenager, when statistics had spat on his dreams. Even if he had cared it already seemed impossible. He had been told when he was seven, coming home from first grade with a letter to his soulmate that his teacher had made them write in class. John had brought it to his mother, proudly showing off the six-sentence letter focusing on the most recent episode of Power Rangers happily written in typical first-grade style.
“When will I get to show them my letter?” he had asked her with a wide smile and sparkling eyes. He didn’t pay any mind to the glance she threw at his father, the tightening of her lips and the hesitation in her voice.
“Well,” she began, her voice frank. “Not everyone gets to meet their soulmate. So you might never get to give your letter to her.” The sparkle faded from John’s eyes and the smile fell from his face.
“But Ms. Bregg says that a soulmate is who you’re supposed to be with for your whole life,” John said, crossing his arms and sticking out his bottom lip in defiance. “Ms. Bregg can’t be wrong.”
“She’s not wrong my love,” his mother said, getting down from her chair and giving him back his letter. “But most people never meet their soulmates. It’s unlikely that you’ll ever meet yours, but that doesn’t mean you can’t meet someone and be happy! Just look at your dad and I.”
“But if it won’t work out?” John questioned, hands dropping from their crossed position to flop noisily by his side. His eyes started to well up, brimming with tears.
His mother opened her arms to him, her voice now softer and consoling. “No matter what you happen to do, soulmate or not John, your father and I will always be here for you.”
Without a second thought, he rushed into his mother’s open arms, feeling warmth and kindness embrace him. However, despite the love he felt, it was this moment that sparked the fire within John. The feeling of hopelessness that made it’s home buried within his soul. That maybe everything that he was taught by Ms. Bregg was for naught. That to be united with his soulmate just wasn’t in the cards. He grew to despise Ms. Bregg, and rejoiced when she was fired a few years later because of teaching inappropriate content to children.
These thoughts of hopelessness were only reaffirmed when he entered high school, filled with hormones, attitudes run high, and knowledge he didn’t want to know. John had officially decided that health was the worst class in the world. A teacher who could care less if his students passed or failed and a very strong opinion on the very topic his mother had touched on all those years ago. It had been that part of the year where more of the intimate topics were touched on in the class, which included the topic of soulmates and how truly rare they were.
“Alright. As you know, we’ve started our coverage of our soulmates unit.” Mr. Leaton’s annoying voice echoed through the classroom full of rowdy students. John sat at his desk that day, blue and black painted nails tapping incessantly on the polished wood.
“I showed you guys the importance of the colors yesterday. Today will be a bit different. We're going to be looking at some statistics regarding soulmates! So all my math kids buckle up.” Mr. Leaton gave a half smile, pulling down the big white projector.
John huffed as the projector turned on, the brightly colored background practically burning his eyes. A few clicks of the mouse to get the slides set up before Mr.Leaton had returned to the front of the room. The slide behind him was a very off colored yellow orange with the title, “Soulmate Statistics”. John could already feel himself getting antsy in his seat as the lecture began.
“So most of you might be wondering. How many people actually find their soulmate, and what is the likelihood of you finding yours?” Mr. Leaton declared, the sentence dissolving into the anxious air about the classroom. The button on the clicker was tapped, the slide transitioning effortlessly to the ones after. The final slide depicted a man and a woman, decorated in colors through the screen of a television, smiles lighting up their faces.
“Now that you know a little more about what the statistics say having a soulmate is like, here's a fun fact. There are only 10,000 soulmates who are recorded at any given time in the world. With close to 8 billion people, it seems a little unrealistic to find yours.” Mr. Leaton spoke, pointing to the picture.
John looked at the screen, a sense of dread building up within his stomach. 8 billion people. 8 billion chances wasted. 8 billion possible souls and one impossible chance at finding the one that matched his.
“For those of you who are good at math, what is the approximate percentage of any one person finding their soulmate in today's world?” Mr. Leaton questioned the class. A sea of blank stares were given back. John had his pencil and paper, doing the equations in silence, to figure out the number to the best of his ability.
“There's less than a 1.42% chance.” John responded to the question, displaying his mathematics work on the paper in front of him. The number made his head spin.
“That's correct John. There is less than a 1.42% chance. In fact all of those numbers are moved even more due to a -6 in decimal points.” Mr. Leaton spoke, blabbering on about the subject before moving onto the next slide. John had spaced out, no longer interested in the conversation at hand. Right there, in the middle of that health classroom, John had given up ever trying to find his soulmate. While other people would spend millions of dollars trying, John would be content with where he was at.
He had made peace with that fact long before he graduated high school, long before he started doing YouTube. But as his channel started to grow, and more and more people started watching his videos, his mind drifted back to the idea of soulmates, to statistics and dreams he had long since left in the dust. They came back to him as a sense of curiosity, and that sense only grew and grew as YouTube’s algorithm started recommending videos on soulmates, and as TVs and radio stations drones on about the latest celebrity soulmates.
It took a few months til that curiosity grew strong enough that, as the moon began to set and the sun went to claim back the sky, John sat in his room with his computer, reading article after article about soulmates in modern times. Every one he came across said basically the same thing.
With the rise of the internet, people were meeting more and more folks with similar interests from around the globe, leading to an increase in soulmates being found. Even with the increase, there was a predicted larger number of soulmates being discovered than that, as the soul marks were only triggered by physical touch between soulmates. Technology was being developed to show these soul marks through the screen, but no advancements had been made.
As John scrolled through article after article, some written by moms on their blog posts with about as much credibility as a reddit post, some written by scientists that had words John didn’t know without Google, he started to hope for the first time since he was a child, that maybe there was hope for him to meet his soulmate after all.
He met Smitty not long after that. A friend of both of them got them into a recording session together, and with their similar sense of humor and personalities, they hit it off immediately. John found himself at ease around Smitty, and from the laughter that came freely through the speakers whenever they talked, John assumed that Smitty felt the same.
They kept recording together, and, eventually, they called nearly as much while not recording then when they did. Late night conversations, whether it be about their work or their lives, or topics ranging from games to fashion to politics, became a near nightly thing between them. Even if the calls were just static over their microphones, with brief sentences breaking the silence between them, they just sat in silence and enjoyed each other's company.
Both of their channels started to grow, and the videos they did together were almost always hits, with fans seeming to enjoy their friendship just as much as they enjoyed being friends. (Though John doubted that that could possibly be true; he didn’t think that anyone could enjoy anything as much as when Smitty made stupid jokes that were just between the two, jokes that had him laughing harder than he can remember ever laughing before he met Smitty.) And with the growth of their channels, came invites. Invites to cons and events to get more involved with the community.
The first con Smitty agreed to go to was close to where John lived, and when he heard that Smitty would be going, he offered his house as a place for him to stay. It was what friends were for after all. And a house would be much nicer to stay in than a cheap hotel that was already booked out.
A few days before Smitty was set to arrive was when the panic started to set in. John had a million questions swimming through his mind as he set up the spare bedroom and cleaned the house. What if the house wasn't good enough, or if his jokes fell flat, or maybe his hair would decide not to cooperate when he arrived? Irrational little things poked at the back of the bleach blonde's mind throughout the day, attempting to gain some semblance of organization.
Another part of John spoke differently. Smitty was his best friend, and had been for years! Sure, it would be their first time meeting face to face, but they were still the same people right? They'd played hours of games together from CS:GO to Fortnite and Uno. They'd spent even longer talking to each other when insomnia kept the two from sleeping. He was sure that Smitty could still make him laugh even with the doubts attacking his brain. It wouldn't be so bad after all.
In the hours between the time he woke up and the time Smitty was supposed to land, John had made at least ten panicked discord calls, rebrushed his hair more times than he could count, and was anxiously checking both the digital clock in his bedroom plus the analog clock in the living room. His stomach was in knots and his head was in the clouds as the seconds counted down.
He left for the airport hours earlier than he had to, prepared to settle down near the front desk of the airport to wait for Smitty to arrive. Slowly he moved throughout the airport, til he had made it as far as he could without actually boarding a plane. When he made it to the gate he was fated to wait at, he sat himself in one of the uncomfortable chairs. Not much changed, as he passed time the same way he had been at his house, bouncing his leg nervously and checking from clock to clock. He tried to distract himself with his phone, playing random app games or listening to music. It worked for a little while, til he got a notification from one of the others, asking if Smitty had landed in yet. With a quick “no” shot back to them, he went right back to worrying.
He nearly felt his heart stop when Smitty’s name appeared in his notifications, accompanied by red and blue hearts on either side of his name and a message saying he had just landed and was looking for him. His thoughts started flying even faster than they had been before, to the point where he couldn’t discern any one thought from the others. Shooting a quick text back with which gate he was next to (he didn’t bother to read which gate; he had spent enough time there that he had it memorized, and he was fairly certain he would see B3 in his dreams now) he stood up and stretched his back and neck, all of which were sore from the time he had spent sitting in chairs not designed to be sat in nearly as long as he had.
He remained standing, watching the entrance to the room for Smitty whose face he had seen through video calls enough times that he was pretty certain he could recognize it on sight. Minutes ticked by agonizingly slow, slower than time had crawled for the entirety of the day. And then John spotted him, and he stopped breathing.
Smitty didn’t look different than he normally did. He hadn’t gotten his bags yet, seeing as he wasn’t carrying any with him. His hair was ruffled a bit, probably from the flight, and his eyes scanned over the crowd before locking into John’s. A smile split over his face, and John could feel a stupid grin spreading across his own.
“Hey,” Smitty said once he got close enough to John his to be heard, raising his right hand up in an awkward wave.
“Hey,” John replied, returning the wave. They stood there just kinda looking at each other for a few seconds, neither moving as people passed around them. “How was your flight?” John finally asked, breaking the tense silence that was starting to build around them.
“It was okay,” Smitty answered. “Thanks for letting me stay with you, and for picking me up.”
“It’s no problem,” John replied, moving his hand back behind his head. “D’you wanna go get your stuff?”
“Yeah, we should probably do that,” Smitty said with a little laugh before grabbing John’s hand and making his way out of the room, following signs that said baggage pick up. John trailed behind him, ignoring the spark that went through him when Smitty grabbed him. He ignored his hand clasped in Smitty’s, warm and soft and just out of his field of view, and he ignored his stomach doing flips from the contact. Instead, he focused on the back of Smitty’s head, and focused on keeping the same pace as they both hurried through the airport to get Smitty’s things.
It only took a few minutes and a wrong turn or two to get to the baggage collection area, and in that time, the awkwardness between meeting face to face faded away. Still, their hands were held together, and John was almost sad when Smitty let go in order to grab his bags. Until he didn’t. Smitty stopped, his hand held out in front of him, inches away from his bag but still, and John could see why. Swirls of blue and yellow and greens covered his skin, climbing up his arm and fading away just past his elbow. On the back of his hand was a bright pink spiral, tightly woven through the other colors and prominent, as it spun to his knuckles and faded from sight.
John froze too, looking at Smitty’s hand. He knew Smitty was single; knew Smitty would tell him if he had already found his soulmate. And he didn’t remember seeing Smitty with soulmarks before. Which means that at some point in the airport, Smitty had found his soulmate, and by the number of different shades and density of colors, he had met them before. Somewhere in these halls, John thought, was the perfect match for Smitty, and he had probably gotten in the way of them meeting.
While John’s thoughts had raced, Smitty had turned around to face John with a dopey grin splitting his face. “I didn’t know you were gay,” he said, which caused John’s face to fall into a look of confusion. Smitty started laughing. “Take a look at your hand, dumbass.” He reached out and grabbed John’s hand again, this time pulling it up between the both of them at face level. They matched. The patterns, the colors, and the pretty pink spiral John knew symbolized a reciprocated crush from his high school classes, mirrored on their hands. And if their smiles and bright eyes mirrored each other too? It didn’t take a genius to figure out why.

LESS THAN THREE DAYS LEFT FOR THE V5 CULTS OF THE BLOOD GODS KICKSTARTER!
It is, in fact, doing fantastic, with over 2200 backers so far. The comments section, knock wood, has been overwhelmingly positive and energized – which really encourages our team to pop in and answer questions and chat a bit.
So, come over and check it out and as a backer you can check out the text that we’ve released to backers so far. Which is most of it. If you disagree with those 2200 other backers and dislike it, you can bail out before the KS is over. No harm, no foul.
We want our backers to be into the project, and totally understand when some folks don’t dig it. Not every project appeals to every potential backer. It’s why we set up our KSs this way, now. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/200664283/cults-of-the-blood-gods-for-vampire-the-masquerade-5th-ed
Most of last week was spent at Mid Winter Convention in a gathering of almost the entire Monday Meeting crew plus dozens of freelancers. And a wonderful group of friends and fans, too. We started with:
THE SUMMIT
This was a day long – well half a day, it took us 12 hours – meeting where we took a look back at 2019, and then mostly looked at our plans for ongoing projects and how we could evolve our processes.
Then we spent the second half of the day looking at how we wanted Onyx Path to grow throughout 2020. What works for us and so should be nurtured and fed with love and effort and money.
If we felt something was no longer working, we didn’t just trash it, we looked at ways to change it or replace it so that our original goal for it was more likely to be met.
It was loud and long and lively, and ultimately we filled three walls with Post-Its filled with our ideas. We’re already working on some of the changes, with more to come of our efforts all through 2020 (and beyond).
Then it was time for dinner, and normally in Milwaukee we’d go to the traditional German restaurant Maders (a tradition going all the way back to when White Wolf ate there during Gen-Con), but then this happened:
I cry at the door to Maders: temporarily closed for renovation.
So we all ate at a different restaurant, which was perfectly nice, but not steeped in tradition. Sob! Later that night, I joined with our amazing Onyx Pathcast hosts (Dixie, Matthew, and Eddy) for a very silly Pathcast recording that went live last Friday. You can find that on Podbean, or on your favorite podcast venue.
Matthew, Eddy, and Dixie “enjoying” their favorite Mario pastime!
From there on in, we were attending the convention. So:
THE MID WINTER CONVENTION
Here is a run-down with a whole lot of pics taken throughout, as were the earlier ones, by the multi-talented Meredith Gerber.
Eddy’s Developer Bootcamp.
Thursday was set-up for the booth and some professional seminars and panels designed to help freelancers and aspiring creators with tips on such things as running a Kickstarter (Mighty Matt McElroy, Meredith, and I were that panel), to networking, to Eddy’s Developer Bootcamp where he divides attendees into teams, has them come up with a game concept, and walks them through each stage of creation.
My favorite idea was a game where a cyber-pug is created in parts, with each cyber-part containing one bit of what I believe was an exploded pug’s body. I heard about it second-hand, so I might not be grasping the full nuanced concept.
Friday, for us, was important. This was the day of our Onyx Path Q&A Social, which is a small gathering in a boardroom at the hotel, with snacks and drinks. We’ve found that this works better for us than the traditional panel at this convention.
Onyx Path Q&A Social 2020
I explain some minor, inconsequential, point while the gang wait to announce new releases.
Matt reminds us to announce Trinity Continuum: Adventure!, TC: Assassins, They Came From Beyond the Grave!, and The Hedge for CtL2e.
Naeall Raemonn Pricae makes a point – potentially about Scion, Exalted Essence, or Trinity Continuum: Assassins. Or something that applies to all three at once.
Eddy also makes a point – in an elegant and thought-provoking manner.
That was our big group event, but individually everybody still had events they were a part of. In fact, right after the Q&A, Matthew demo’d They Came From Beneath the Sea!. Which I didn’t know about until I heard gales of laughter from the demo area and popped my head in to see what the jocularity was all about.
It turns out the group was menaced by Commie Seaweed!
But with a clever use of improvised Quip and Cinematics cards…
…the day is saved by, well, getting the sinister seaweed stoned!
Besides They Came From Beneath the Sea!, we had other games of ours being demoed throughout the convention, including Eddy playing Pugmire (big surprise, I know), and at least one more panel – which was for V5 Chicago By Night.
Incidentally, mentioning V5 reminds me that not only do we have the Cults KS finishing up, but our friends over at Modiphius still have the pre-order open for Fall of London for Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition! You can do that whole pre-order thing for the physical book over there on their website, and get a link for the PDF right away!
But, besides helping out our fellow V5 content creators with a plug, here are some pics of Eddy playing Pugmire, and then the V5 Chicago By Night creators at their panel:
Eddy demos Pugmire, the very best doggy game in the world!
The V5 Chicago By Night creators no doubt revealing some scary and mysterious bit of lore from the book!
The Chicago panelists and creators: Crystal Mazur, Matthew “The Gentleman Tongue” Dawkins, Mike Tomasek, and Eddy Webb.
And so, to end our little visual tour of our adventures at Mid Winter in Milwaukee, here is a gorgeous picture taken once again by Meredith Gerber, of Matthew and I in a moment of downtime in our habitual haunt, the Monarch Lounge in the hotel:
Lords of the Night, indeed!
Check us out next week, after we’ve fully recovered – we hope! We’ll have lots more talk about our:
Many Worlds, One Path!
BLURBS!
Kickstarter!
V5 Cults of the Blood Gods is in its last few days! Thanks to all of you, the kickstarter has passed $131,000 and 2240 backers, and has trumpeted forward passing through Stretch Goal after Stretch Goal right into the new year!
Next on Kickstarter, we are looking at Hunter: The Vigil 2nd Edition for Chronicles of Darkness!

Today’s Reason to Celebrate!
Almost our entire Monday Meeting crew made it to Milwaukee and back safely, and had a great and productive time at our Summit and the convention. I got stuck for a while in Milwaukee’s airport with a delayed plane, and Ian had a bunch of flights cancelled out from under him, but we’re all home now. Which is, for us, a pretty great trip!
