KH3 Worlds ACTUALLY Matter and show Major Parallels and Foreshadowing through Sacrifice and Separation
The worlds in KH3 are often seen as just retelling of the Fairytales but with added Sora and his friends or Organization members. Because of this they're often disliked especially when there are some sections that are scene for scene and Sora and the others might not be present for this.
However, if you get passed the fact it's a retelling of the movie and get into how it connects with Kingdom Hearts story, they actually play a major role.
Tumblr media
Olympus: Sacrifice
Olympus shows themes of sacrifice and love. It shows that Hercules didn't think and all he knew was that Meg was in trouble and threw himself in harm's way to save her. He sacrificed himself by doing that but also sacrificing his godhood to be with Meg. He would have to be separated from Meg and that's not the kind of life he would want to live.
Later on Riku ends up doing the exact same thing. When Sora feels powerless and all alone he sacrifices his being and life for Sora. And I could also argue he does it out of love because when he does this he doesn't necessarily think of his actions but does it to his devotion to Sora and protecting him like he always promised Terra.
Tumblr media
Corona: Sacrifice
In the Tangled world, Rapunzel is willing to sacrifice her freedom to save Flynn's life and become separated from the outside world she's grown to love forever.
However, Flynn decides that her freedom is more important and sacrifices himself by cutting her hair which could make her lose the power to heal.
Tumblr media
Rapunzel is also compared to Riku because they both so desperately felt trapped. Riku felt trapped at the island and wished to leave and explore other worlds with Sora and Kairi to point where if the raft didn't work out, he would open the door to darkness. I'll also like to include they both felt that someone they were close to left them for others.
Tumblr media
Toy Box: Separation
In Toy Box, we learn of how Woody and Buzz among a few other had separated from half of their group. However, they are later seen that the world was split in half and are separated from their beloved friends. They realize at the end their friends who they've been separated from that they are always connected through their hearts.
And this goes back to how Sora will soon be separated from everyone and become stuck at the Quadratum. It also shows that he is always connected to them through his hearts and that's how he uses/and abuses the power of waking through that connection.
Tumblr media
Arrendale: Sacrifice
When Elsa is about to get slashed by Hans' sword, Anna who is in the brink of death rushes in and saves her by taking the hit instead. She freezes at the same time and makes it so the sword shatter from her entire body becoming ice. She sacrifice her life for her. Elsa manages to thaw her and the cold weather by the act of love.
Which Riku then does the act of love when he sacrifices his life for Sora. Riku is also compared to Elsa on how they both pushed the people they loved/ cared about away to protect them.
Tumblr media
Monstropolis: Separation
In this world, Sullie goes through separation of being away from Boo. They have to separate so Boo will be safe.
This also refers to how Sora ends up in the Quadratum from bringing back Kairi and abusing the power of awakening by using it too many times.
Tumblr media
100 Acre Woods: Separation
In this world, Pooh talks to hope they're growing apart and that he misses Sora. Sora feels sad that they're not as close. The eventual outcome is that he'll always be in his heart no matter what.
I feel like this refers to him and Kairi not being as close as they were before. Ever since KH1 things changed between them and she changed. She's no longer the Kairi he knew and they are slowly growing apart. (Which is honestly sad). It also shows that even if he's by himself in the Quadratum he'll have everyone in his heart no matter how far away they are.
Tumblr media
Fransankyoto: Separation + Sacrifice
Unlike the others I decided to say this world shows both. In the past, Hiro's brother separated from him when he sacrificed himself to try to find and save the teacher. This is also reflected in the past when beymax also stays behind to sacrifice himself so Hiro can then leave.
It helps shows the connections that no matter how far they are away, the people you love and care for will be in his heart. This shows that to help save everyone he used his connection to his friends to bring them that. It furthers that he won't be alone in the Quadratum and that Riku was able to go to him in MOM because of this.
Tumblr media
PoTC: Separation
Finally in the pirates world, we show separation. After Will gets stabbed and he is made Captain of the Flying Dutchman, he faces separation from the one he loves Elizabeth. Only every 10 years are they able to see each other.
This foreshadows both being separated from the ones Sora loves and bringing back all his friends' hearts when Will's life almost gets taken when he gets stabbed. Being apart for 10 years also could lead to how it will take at least a year to find Sora in the Quadratum.

Soriku Week Day 5: Free day
AU where there are Sora and Riku drift to Hollow Bastion instead of separating each other.
【Note】
✅ I wrote this fic based on my soriku comics! You can read it on Tumblr ;) (Part1 | Part2)
✅Just a short intro!
✅ Beta Read by oceanvybe💓
↓↓Read Fic↓↓
Riku didn't care about getting caught in the storm. He looked up at the dark skies and said with excitement, ,
"Once we step through, we might not be able to come back. We may never see our parents again. There's no turning back. But this may be our only chance. We can't let fear stop us! I'm not afraid of the darkness!"
Riku turned towards Sora, hand stretched out towards him.
"Riku-"
Backdropped by the purple lightning, Riku's smile looked creepy. The strong wind messed up his hair. It made Sora doubt that the man was sane or that this was the same person he called his best friend. However, Sora knew there was no time to consider, the darkness was crawling up Riku's body. It was trying to swallow him up, to take him away. Sora ran toward Riku as fast as he could to take his hand. Soon the darkness crept up to Sora too, it devoured both of them and the islands. The warmth of Riku's hand was the last thing Sora remembered. The sound of thunder, wind, and creaking trees faded away . Then, there was nothing but darkness at the end.
“Come on, Riku. Let’s go exploring!! Maybe we can find treasure this time!”
Sora darted away before Riku could answer because he was sure that Riku would always come after him no matter the reason. . Riku had no choice but to put down the book that he was reading to follow after Sora. The castle they were in was huge and full of complicated structures like a maze. However, Riku was sure that it wouldn't take too long to catch up to Sora. It was because he knew Sora found something interesting every 10 steps and stopped. That was who Sora was.
After the storm on the Destiny Islands, they had washed up on the outside world known as "Hollow Bastion". And, a lady named Maleficent found them passed out. She was a tall lady with horns on her head; She always wore a black cloak and carried a cane. She said she was a great witch who researched magic in the castle. It looked suspicious even to kids like Sora and Riku because there was no magic, nor witches in their world. It would be crazy if there were such things. However, it was true that she found them passed out and took them to the castle for treatment. Unfortunately, she didn’t find Kairi.
She gave them rooms, food, books, and knowledge of the "outside" world where they landed. On the other hand, she prohibited them from wandering around because there were dangerous monsters roaming the castle. The only place they were allowed to take a walk was the top floor of one watchtower.
Since the damage from the darkness had yet to heal , Sora and Riku had to kill time for a while. Riku preferred reading books. Sora spent his time observing the outside through the windows in his room, wanting to go outside. The days spent in his room healed Sora, but the anxiety of wondering what happened to Kairi grew day by day.
Sora called Riku to go night exploring one day when their wounds healed. Sora said, "Let's go find Kairi. She might have drifted here too." Or- Kairi might have been safe at home unlike us, Riku gulped and agreed to his plan after a moment of silence. Because Riku knew that Sora would go by himself even if Riku tried to stop him.
Mixed feelings swirled inside Riku’s heart. It almost overflowed and drowned him. Riku wanted to celebrate the beginning of their adventure in the outside world that they longed for. He wanted to share that excitement with Sora. Too soft, Riku bit his bottom lip to hold his emotions back.
They borrowed an antique sword and lance, which was displayed in a hallway, for self-protection.
“It’s going to be fine! Even if monsters come out, I’ll protect you, Riku.” Sora similed. “That’s my line. You can hide behind me anytime.” Riku smirked back.
Sora puffed his cheeks to show his complaints but he was also glad that he could see Riku’s smile for the first time in a while.
Then, they started to go down the stairs in the darkness. Only the moon cast a light on them.
"It's dark here," Sora said.
"Yeah, also it's cold." Riku answered.
The tower built of stones and metal trapped the coldness at night. The antique weapons they carried were icy cold, and it took their warmth from their hands. There was no one besides them inside the tower, not even Maleficent. Some broken furniture and knick-knacks gathered up in messy piles. Dust collected on Riku's finger when he ran his index finger over a window frame. It told Riku that there were no signs of people living here for a long time. Riku assumed this tower, or the whole castle might have been abandoned in a sudden attack.
They went down, one floor after another, however, they never reached the first floor. Just an endless loop of going downstairs, again and again. Sora didn't seem to notice anything, but Riku noticed that they should have reached the first floor already by the view of the tower that Riku saw from his room. "It might be her magic." Riku murmured. “Her magic?” “Yeah, I thought something was wrong here. We keep going down the stairs but we should have reached the end by now. It might be her magic.” “For what? To protect us?” “I hope so. But now I’m curious about what's outside the tower. Is it Monsters or something she doesn't want us to see? Anyway,we need a way to break it.” "But we can't use any magic…"
While Riku mulled things over, Suddenly, a light appeared in Sora’s hand. Sora and Riku jumped, and gazed at the light. Soon the light faded away, leaving a sword in its place in Sora's hand. It looked like a key. They felt their hearts pounding fast as their gaze met up in the silence.
" What is that, Sora?" "I don't know!"
And the tip of the sword was directed in front of them, into the air, against Sora's will even though Sora held it with both his hands to control it. The cold night breeze blew into the room, pushing against their backs. In a moment, the key in Sora's hands shed a ray of light in the air, then a keyhole appeared.
It was a very odd feeling, however, Sora felt that it was open.
After the strange feeling, the key has gone. Sora remembered the storm and murmured,
"I thought it was just in my dream."
On the other hand, Riku looked at Sora without saying a word.
"That's the key blade, children."
Maleficent was standing behind them suddenly, much to their surprise.
"Wow, when did you get here?!" Sora asked her with his eyes wide open.
"Just now, but I've been watching over you two."
"Do you know what that is?" Riku asked her. "Well-"Maleficent explained the key blades to them, contrary to Riku’s expectations. She told them that it has prodigious power and the ability to open everything.
"It's one of the rare materials nowadays. So, why don't we research it together?"
Maleficent opened her arms with a grin on her face. Sora gave an excited look towards Riku as if asking for Riku's consent. Riku also turned his face towards Sora and nodded.
Riku and Sora became Maleficent's apprentices on that day.

Normal again normal again
Anyways
Are you all aware of that Soriku scene at the end of Kingdom Hearts 2?
"If the world is made of light and darkness... We'll be the darkness."
"Yeah. The other side...the realm of light is safe now."
Tumblr media
[From Riku's Story in the KH Character Files]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[From the KH2 Light Novel]
What I think about a lot is that...this is the kind of thing Nine wants with Sonic.
"And yet they felt completely content to be here—because they were together."
Tumblr media
"That's the best part of all. There's no one here! It's a clean slate—the perfect place to start over and get the world right. With the proper fortifications—and enough shard energy—it could be home! The one you lost, the one I never had. I can make that hope a reality. For both of us."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Sonic is gonna love this place."
What is clear to me, from the way it delighted Nine to find the Grim (a place with no life) and yet excited to show Sonic, to make it his home too, is that Nine wants to be with Sonic. Whether if it was the two alone in a world of their own making, or among life they created, Nine would be content to just...be with Sonic.
And yet, even as you connect it to the Dark Margin scene from kh2, there is one major difference.
Sora and Riku were not looking to live out the rest of their days in the realm of darkness. They were trapped, and they thought there was no way out. So despite being trapped for what could be eternity, they felt content just to be there with each other. Even if they were separated from their home, their other friends, it was enough that they had each other.
But with Nine and Sonic, it isn't simply that they would be content living alone together, closed off from everyone else, if it meant that they could have each other and everyone else could be safe. Nine wants to make it like this. Sonic wants to go back home, to introduce Nine to Tails and his other friends, to go on adventures like he used to. He wants to integrate Nine and his new friends into the life he had. Nine rejects the world that hurt him, rejects everyone but Sonic. He wants to be separate, alone. He wants to create his perfect home, a better world, and such a home doesn't include anyone else but Sonic. He wants to create the kind of home that could be the one he's always wanted, that could be a new home for Sonic.
This is all to say that, Sora and Riku hadn't planned being trapped in such a place alone, just glad they could at least be together, but Nine wishes to be alone in a world of their own making with Sonic, wants Sonic to be as content at being trapped alone with him as he would be. Does that make any sense?
It just drives me crazy, okay
To want to be alone so badly, yet unable to get rid of that feeling of loneliness once you've felt true companionship. To desire home more than anything, pursuing an idea, yet not quite realizing home was always about the people with you, rather than the place. And yet, to know deep down that you can't have "home" without this person, the companion you didn't know you craved, and so you pull them into your goal. To have an almost possessive need to have this person in your life, to make a home with them away from anyone and everyone else. To want to live with them forever in a world that is both of yours.

I’m not okay. Just realized Sora was the one to grant Riku’s wish.
Riku’s wish was to travel outside of his world and go on aventure, but when that happened, in KH1, it was just all horrible things. From horrible people forcing him to doing horrible things he would’ve never done by himself.
Remember that his wish was specifically to go with Sora. And yet, in Kh1 he is separated from Sora and turned against him. In the end he just ended up with regrets and remorse, especially towards his most precious person.
But his wish did come true, and that’s where I’m ugly crying. Because it’s through Sora that it came true, this wish is literally dream drop distance:
-He goes from world to world
-Fights “monsters”
-Meet new people that ends up being new friends
-And most importantly all of this is done with Sora being at his side,
-They took the raft together
-Helped Sora
-Saved Sora
-Became something important to Sora (dream eater)
- And Sora was finally thinking about him as he was. He heard him call his name.
Because, yes they might not see each other, but it is implied and said multiple time that they feel each other, knew they were together and had each other’s back. And he had fun, so much fun. We can see Riku smiling a lot in DDD.
Sora’s dreams gave him what their reality couldn’t. Sora did. I- I’m fine. I’m totally normal about this.

We talked about Ven’s dream, but are there any other moments in the series that stand out to you as potential KHUX references?
Okay, so, this is gonna all be from memory — with the occasional reference to the novels (I have bookmarks lol) so take the things I say with a grain of salt…
Also it’s kind of long so, under the cut we go!
The first one that comes to mind is something exclusive to the novels but when Ven and Vanitas re-fuse in the BBS an unspecified voice says this:
Tumblr media
Which feels very Darkness coded. The “I’m home” part especially, since it’s most likely that it was removed from him at the same time as Vani (this specifically is also why I still believe Vani and Darkness are separate entities, even if they might share a body).
It doesn’t really make sense why they’d refer to themselves in the third person like this, especially since we do have another plausible explanation.
On a different note
You cannot convince me that it was not intentional that the Dream Eater Theme is one of the only tracks in the franchise to have vocalizations (the only others I can think of would be ML Dearly Beloved and One Winged Angel? Could be forgetting some tho).
Like what kind of twisted foreshadowing is that?
And the fact that it’s so ‘childish’ too. Obviously the Dandelions weren’t that young (like not under 10 I mean) but it still drives me crazy. Just AHH.
I’m not very confident this one is intentional (I have no idea when KHUX started being planned. I doubt it was all the way back pre-2008, but who knows?) but in Days (only the game, not the cutscene movie) both Marluxia and Larxene consider recruiting Roxas in their coup.
I believe Marluxia is the first one to bring it up and I can only imagine that was because of his connection to Ven. Not really much else to say here lol
Last but certainly, nearly, tangentially on topic is the Keyblade War story Yen Sid tells Sora and Riku before their Mark of Mastery Exam.
And like, yeah, no kidding CQ, but hear me out, I think it’s how it connects to Union X that makes it interesting.
So my idea is that the story actually mixes the Keyblade War MoM presumably fought in (the one ‘when he was a boy’ he tells Luxu about) with the one that he made the Foretellers cause (the one in Chi).
Green and Bold are the former
Pink and Italics are the latter
Blue, Bold, and Italics are ones that could plausibly be both
“Long ago, in the age of fairy tales the world was filled with light — a gift, many believed, from an unseen power known as ‘Kingdom Hearts’. You see, Kingdom Hearts was protected by its counterpart, the ‘X-Blade,’ so that none could ever lay hands on its mysteries.
But in time, the world was overrun by legions who wanted the light all for themselves, and the first shadows were cast upon the land. These warriors crafted ‘Keyblades’ in the image of the original X-Blade and waged a great war over Kingdom Hearts. We call this the Keyblade War.
But though the war extinguished all light from the world, the darkness could not reach the brightness inside every child's heart.
With that light, the world was remade as we know it today, with countless smaller worlds shining like stars in the sky.
As for the real X-Blade, it did not survive the battle. The two elements that created it, one of darkness and one of light, shattered into twenty pieces — seven of light, thirteen of darkness.
And as for the source of all light — the one true Kingdom Hearts — it was swallowed by the darkness, never to be seen again. As long as it remains there, even the brightest world will have its dark corners. After all, light begets darkness, and darkness is drawn to light.
For this reason, some decided to use the Keyblade — a weapon designed to conquer the light — to defend the light instead. These were the first heroes of the Keyblade.” - Narration by Yen Sid, Dream Drop Distance Novel, Page 165
So I’m gonna go over each coloured line one by one just to clarify what I think they’re referring to.
Anything said about the X-Blade is automatically about MoM’s ‘childhood’ Keyblade War to me (Green) as we do not see it or hear any reference to it at any point in the X Saga. Not even when MoM is talking to the Foretellers. Hell, I’m not even sure it’s ever mentioned in Dark Road.
The mythos could just be made up. But the X-blade is real and does summon Kingdom Hearts (a real or a fake one is yet to be decided). But also if this was a MoM Keyblade War thing, and he never told anyone about it, how would the rest of Keyblade society know? Maybe at some unseen point during MoM and Xehanort’s meeting he was told. I’m not sure. It’s a little rocky but I’m using what we have to go off of
And I am pretty sure that the X-Blade would be a thing MoM was exposed to considering it’s status as the thing all Keyblades are based on.
For a comment on the first few blue lines. I personally believe this is true for both wars, but that the wording leans a bit more into the Chi war.
The pink lines afterwards are obviously referring to the Dandelions and restoration of worlds
The next blue line…
So, we have no heccin’ clue which Kingdom Hearts is real. Like, is it yellow? Is it blue? Is it the god damn door from KH1? (It’s not the door from KH1. The door from KH1 is the Kingdom Hearts of Worlds and not the one we’re talking about lol) Not even some people working on the games are entirely sure according to one interview lol
And because of that I cannot tell you during which war the true Kingdom Hearts disappeared.
Most people, including myself initially, would assume it was in the war we see in Chi, and, honestly, I don’t think they’re in the wrong for thinking that. I think that’s what we’re supposed to think. But Yen Sid says that “the one true Kingdom Hearts” was “never to be seen again” and all instances of Kingdom Hearts appearing (both colours I mean) have shown up on at least 2 occasions.
In Fragmentary Passage (I think???) there’s a cutscene of Luxu watching the (Chi) war and the Kingdom Hearts shown there is blue. The same blue as in BBS. In KH3 its yellow the same colour as the confirmed fake Kingdom Hearts shown in Days.
If either of those Kingdom Hearts were real then they both would’ve very much shown up again by the time Yen Sid is speaking to them.
The last pink line is most likely referring to MoM taking on the Foretellers as his apprentices and them forming the Unions.
See I spent all that time explaining my thoughts about that Keyblade War legended and now I look at them so unconfidently… but it took so long to write it all out I’m gonna keep it in anyways lol
Anywho, that’s all folks.
Feel free to either add on to my points or tear them to shreds, if you’d like. I love a discussion. And prefer to be corrected if I get something wrong.

some selections from the vault (and snippets from my wip fic)
so! for those who are not following me on twitter, i recently went through my drafts for some strifehart content that i hadn't yet shared publicly! i wanted to quickly cross post so you all can see them too :)
putting it under a cut just so i dont clutter up the tag again :)
the one i had written the most for was the more recent kink meme off dreamwidth--specifically, the prompt for a superhero/vigilante au! i hadn't written very much for it (basically just the interaction below), but i had a general idea of cloud and leon's backstories. at some point, leon would show up at cid's repair shop where cloud happens to work and there'd be some fun to be had there!
Tumblr media
--
next was what i think was originally what i had planned for one of the prompts from strifehart week 2018; i think it was "witch" or "fantasy"? this one is a little more out there, sorry
but at the time, i'd recently read a fic for fire emblem fates called beyond the sea; in it, magic was kind of a rarity and the people who got power were given a brand, or star sign. i was going to do a KH-flavor twist on it for strifehart. the idea would be that cloud, squall, and tifa all worked as soldiers in a government that was hunting down these "witches" and turning them into weapons or tools of a sort. the three main ones were:
-aerith, with the mark pf phoenix; focus on healing magic -riku, sign of ifrit; mostly can only control fire as he's so young -squall, who had a rare double mark of ixion and leviathan; wind/water/lightning based magic focus, so he can basically create a hurricane at will
the idea was for cloud and tifa to find out they've been ordered to abduct a kid and defect, especially after finding out their friend aerith is also someone wanted by the government. squall, meanwhile, has had enough of hiding and kind of loses it when he finds out riku is the latest kidnap victim. they all end up traveling together, and...i had no real plans aside from that. part of why this never ended up being finished/posted, haha. the most coherent part was below, though i jumped ahead to try and write cloud seeing squall going all out with his magic
Tumblr media
--
the third is a twist on spirited away/the boy and the beast/song of the sea.
kid squall ends up in a fantasy world after being separated from his sister ellone, and is found/taken in by werewolf zack and dryad/nymph aerith. they have to hide that squall is a human and pretend he's a baby werewolf and he ends up getting found out on a big festival day. but he'd end up on a quest with cloud, who was a selkie, as a way to keep him/zack/aerith from being banished. no concrete plot ideas for this one either, unfortunately, so it's not gotten anywhere, even if i had a cool scene in my mind for squall getting outed as a human :( (but i had a track off the boy and the beast ost scoring a big fight zack gets into when squall gets found out)
Tumblr media
--
i had no other major fics planned aside from my current WIP, but here's a snippet from a drabble i was fiddling with where leon gets sick and doesn't realize it, just because i like how i used to write his interactions with yuffie
Tumblr media
--
ANYWAY here's some snippets from/about my current WIP, a song without its melody.
first up is actually a piece i had wanted to be in my main longfic, a little bit of levity, but ended up being cut. it was intended to go after the scene i have of leon and sora in song (since it was a scene that i had to cut from levity that i managed to fit back in), but with how leon's interactions with roxas and xion have changed, i had to leave it in my scraps doc! it is, generally, the vibe i kind of want for leon's relations with roxas and xion respectively
Tumblr media
next are just some snippets from upcoming sections, so please look forward to it! :3c

ANYWAY if you made it all the way to the end, thanks for reading and i hope you're havin a good one :)

Kingdom Hearts isn't that complicated
lol here's my no context tl;dr of kh. It'll be very vague, rambly, and impossible to understand which basically defeats the whole point of this but it seemed funny to me to try as like a crack post since i havent posted much in a while:
So basically, sora and riku are best friends. They care very much about each other and u mustt understand this to understand why tf anything else happens in this universe.
In the first game, sora and riku are separated by the evil forces of Darkness. Sora goes on a whole adventure to find Riku, except Riku falls to darkness on the way and betrays sora. In the end tho, they make up and reunite. Except in the fight to contain the Darkness, sora and riku end up separated again.
In the next gaem, sora is yet again looking for riku since they were separated in the first game. The Bad Guys lure sora into their Evil Lair by implying/telling sora that riku is there. Except riku isn't, sora falls for the trap, and gets "put to sleep" as a result.
The story continues on riku's end, who is now on his own quest to "wake" sora from his "sleep". Except a few of the Bad Guys are absorbing sora's power while he's asleep, so riku has to deal with them in order to wake sora up.
We're now at kh2, when sora wakes up, presumably thanks to riku. Except they're still separated, so sora goes on another adventure to find riku. They eventually reunite and defeat the leader of the Bad Guys from before, and they can go home, roll credits, in peace, yes?
No. Because the guy they just killed wasnt actually the Final Boss, and so now sora and riku train and take a pacer test that will give them a Special Ability that will help them defeat the Final Boss (if they pass). They're supposed to be taking the test together, but mysteriously, sora and riku are separated at the beginning of the test. But even separated, they manage to work together to finish it.
Except, towards the end of the test, the Final Boss reveals himself, and reveals that he's put sora under a spell, basically, and so now, sora's "asleep". (Yes, again.) Riku (and friends) get rid of the Final Boss (for now), and riku completes his test by "waking sora up". So now riku has completed and passed his test, and therefore gains that one Special Ability that will help him defeat the Final Boss. But sora had succumbed to the sleep spell, and did not pass, and therefore does not gain the Special Ability.
So in kh3, sora goes on another adventure to gain the Special Ability, while riku uses his to enter a Dark World to search for a lost party member. Yes, they're essentially Separated Again, until sora can get the Special Ability. But nothing seems to work, until riku runs into trouble in the Dark World and sora's determination to save riku grants him the Special Ability. They reunite, find the lost party member, yada yada, until the time comes to finally face the Final Boss. And sora defeats him not by using the Special Ability but, by just. Talking it out. I guess. Lol
So the Final Boss is taken care of, the world is at peace, and sora and riku can go home, roll credits, in peace, yes?
No. Because actually, before sora defeated the Final Boss, the Final Boss kinda maybe sorta killed e v e r y o n e . And so! Sora went back in time, and used the Special Ability to bring his friends back to life. And then defeated the Final Boss as not-explained earlier. And because sora misused his Special Ability that way— he dies! Dies.
So that's it? No, because surely sora isn't truly gone, he's probably just "asleep" as fucking always, and so riku goes looking for him. Wow, role reversal.
Except, sora kinda maybe sorta is dead. But where do anime disney boys go when they die? Apparently they end up in some alternate universe purgatory until their fate is decided by disney execs.
But how would riku ever even think to look for sora in some parallel universe purgatory? Thing is, he runs into someone who's from the parallel universe purgatory, or at least the world it's based in, and she leads riku to that world. Where riku continues looking for sora, presumably to wake him up for the tenth time. Who tf knows what sora's doing tbh. It's hard to tell from the trailer lmao
Lol so that was my kh tl;dr. I coulda totally summed this up in one sentence but i settled for summarizing some story beats/plot but with no context. This would probably be better in video form so i could actually use sound bytes instead of capitalizing every overused placeholder term lol

How Xehanort knew Sora and Riku would be in the Sleeping Worlds
Something I'm surprised nobody's pointed out: The reason Xehanort knew that Sora and Riku were going to be crossing over into the Sleeping Worlds isn't because he knows Yen Sid THAT well, it's because Ansem SOD (from the early KH1 era) saw their future selves crossing over to the Realm of Sleep at the end of DDD's Tutorial.
Like, Ansem SOD most likely did NOT know how far in the future they were from (given his final lament in KH3, he probably wouldn't have been as motivated as he was in KH1 if he had known from the start that his plan was doomed to failure), but he WAS probably aware of the fact that both of them would be separated from their bodies at some point.
So like, when Sora unlocked his heart and disappeared at the end of the first trip to Hollow Bastion, Ansem probably just assumed that was when the disembodied Sora heart he saw back on Destiny Islands came from.
Ditto for when Ansem cast Riku's heart into the Realm of Darkness to keep him from taking back his body.
Those are two points where both of them would've been reduced to just a heart and thus been able to travel through time!
So when Young Xehanort started setting the stage for his future self's return, he just had to pop in and see if the time displaced Sora and Riku were still in the Sleeping Worlds and viola!
Like, this isn't even me extrapolating or theorizing, Young Xehanort explicitly states this in game!
I don't know HOW we all missed this, but yeah! That big plot hole was never a plot hole, we were just being idiots.

Why Vanitas has one of the best, yet frustrating, death scene, in my opinion.
*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*
Tumblr media
I want to share my comment that I left (and deleted) under a KH post discussing the deaths of the organization, so I pasted it here. I want to give credit to @demnocts because I reblogged their post because it summarized the scene so well.
*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*✭˚・゚✧*・゚*
Many people interpret Vanitas giving Sora and Ven the middle finger as his way of telling them to “fuck off” but to me, I believe he wasn't telling them to "fuck off"; rather, he was genuinely expressing the reality of his situation, accepting things as they were, and eventually finding closure.
If Vanitas had really wanted to be nasty about it, like Young Xehanort did, the scene would have been much shorter. Instead, we got a scene in which Vanitas remained calm throughout the conversation, calmly explaining and acknowledging his connections. He recognized Sora and Ventus as his brothers who complemented each other. Despite this acknowledgment, Vanitas refused to be swayed by their convictions and chose to remain true to himself.
—x—
In a world where Sora, Ven, and others have the freedom to choose their paths, whether it be the path of light or any other, it seems only fair that Vanitas should also have the right to choose the path of darkness. After all, he is a dark being himself, and it feels fitting for him to embrace his true nature. His decision is not inherently right or wrong; rather, it is a reflection of who he is at his core.
Anndd that's precisely why the conversation between Sora, Ven, and Vanitas annoyed me. It treated Vanitas' decision as ‘wrong’ or implied that he could have done ‘better’. It tried to undermine the validity of his decision.
Ironically, it was Sora and Ventus themselves who initially suggested to Vanitas that he could decide who he wanted to be. Yet, when Vanitas embraces his true nature and remains faithful to himself, they question him and become defensive. "And what you are is darkness?!" or "How is that okay? Vanitas?!” It seems as though Sora and Ventus were urging Vanitas to embrace a different path (standing on the side of the light), discouraging him from fully embracing his identity as darkness and suggesting that he could do better.
But, Darkness is his very nature and the way he came into existence. There is no room for compromise or finding a middle ground in his case. He is not a whole person in the same way that Sora and Ven are. Darkness is simply who he is. It would have been rather stupid for Vanitas to deny or reject that aspect of himself. So, instead, he acknowledges and wholeheartedly embraces it.
Vanitas was well aware that Sora and Ven had chosen to align themselves with the light. He never passed judgment on them, whereas Sora and Ven failed to extend the same acceptance towards him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“The closer you get to the light, the greater your shadow becomes.”
—x—
Not only was that part annoying, but what bothered me further was Ven's comment, "We should be free to choose. Not just light, not just darkness". While he is right that anyone can be more than just light and darkness, I feel that Ven, of all people, shouldn't be the one to tell Vanitas this.
If Riku had said that to Vanitas, it would have made sense given what Riku had gone through and how he found closure. But, when Ventus said that to Vanitas, I couldn't help but laugh lol.
Neither of them had any say in their separation; it was an unfortunate circumstance for them. However, when it comes to certain aspects of their separation, it could be argued that Ven had the better outcome. Ven was less likely to be judged or shunned because he was inherently connected to the light. He has an advantage in terms of societal acceptance over Vanitas, who was born with the nature of darkness and negativity. Moreover, Ven was provided with nurturing care and proper healing after the separation. He found himself surrounded by companionship and support, which undoubtedly contributed to his well-being. This environment and the presence of individuals who cared for him allowed Ven to flourish and grow to an extent.
On the other hand, the less appealing aspects of their separation fell on Vanitas.
- He was born from not just one, but two chaotic elements: darkness and negativity. Vanitas was doomed to be anything but normal, let alone stable, due to this confluence of chaotic elements.
- Darkness and negativity were already stigmatized and viewed as undesirable traits, andddd Vanitas embodied both. DOUBLE HOMICIDE lmao ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- As if being born from darkness and negativity couldn't get any more dire, the depths of his existence extends as his negative emotions leak out and manifest into physical monstrosities.
- Vanitas will always feel incomplete because he isn't a whole person. He felt a deep sense of dissatisfaction and emptiness, even after reconstructing his heart using negativity. The led him to attempt to extract Ven from within Sora, as absorbing his other half would complete and stabilize him.
- For four years, he was raised by Xehanort, a man who was neither virtuous nor morally upright. This is so self-explanatory. TRIPLE HOMICIDE.
(Off topic: Did you guys know that in dark road, Xehanort implied he was going to harm Vanitas, and even THEE, Vanitas, was shaken by the threat?)
Anyway, it is definitely easier for Ven to say that considering he ended up with the more advantageous share of their separation, while Vanitas was left to deal with the less appealing parts.
Tumblr media
Even though I was annoyed by the conversation, I was satisfied that Vanitas went out the way he did. It’s refreshing to see an antagonist who isn’t easily swayed by the protagonist or the heroes. He remained true to his himself and embraced his role as a harbinger of chaos and evil.

This is Kokoro! 🪷🩷
Tumblr media
Kokoro is my OC from Kingdom Hearts. Her first outfit is from BBS. The second is her outfit from DDD and KH3.
🪷🪷🪷
She was found unconscious and almost dead by Master Eraqus as a child. He took her back to the Land of Departure and raised her alongside Aqua and Terra (and eventually Ventus). She has no memories from before she woke up in L.o.D. Since she has no memories, Eraqus adopts her like shes his own child-- he does so with the others as well, but where they all call him 'Master' Kokoro refers to him as 'Father'.
🪷🪷🪷
During the battle in the Keyblade Graveyard (end of BBS) Vanitas tricks her into separating from the other three. He knocked her out, in the hope of keeping her from getting hurt in the battle, and left her somewhere safe. When she woke up, she couldn't find a single trace of her family. She spent two years traveling from World to World to try and find a clue about what happened to them, but without any luck.
🪷🪷🪷
In Neverland, two years after the fight in the Keyblade Graveyard, the mermaids told her that they'd seen something out at sea. Using Pixie Dust from Tinkerbell, she followed them. But once they were far away from shore, the mermaids attempted to drowned her because they were jealous of the attention (friendship) she received from Peter. Kokoro tried to fight them off to no avail. Everything went black after swallowing too much water.
🪷🪷🪷
She was surprised to wake up, almost dry and laying by a fire, inside a small cave. The cave was completely surrounded by water in the middle of the sea. Kokoro was unable to swim and had previous trauma from two attempted murders by drowning. Her magic had depleted to an unsafe level for her to attempt to make make more fire or escape the cave.
🪷🪷🪷
She was unaware 10 years had passed in her time stuck in that cave. She was eventually rescued by Peter and Tinkerbell, who were investigating the ghost story that was circling Neverland about the 'Wailing Cave'. Peter tells her about his recent adventure with a boy who had a Keyblade, just like her.
🪷🪷🪷
After being healed by the other fairies, Kokoro sets off to find this mystery boy who was wielding a Keyblade. Landing on Destiny Island, she comes face to face with Kairi. Kairi, who she had met in Radiant Garden years before, was now grown up and no longer just a Princess of Heart, but a Keyblade Wielder as well <- a big surprise to Kokoro.
🪷🪷🪷
Sora and Riku show up and believe Kokoro (still in her Keyblade's armor) is a threat towards Kairi and attack her. Kairi ends up summoning her Keyblade and tells her friends to stand down. Kokoro removes her armor and is properly introduced to them.
🪷🪷🪷
The group goes to see Yen Sid, where Kokoro is reunited with Mickey, who she calls Mister M. Kokoro tells them what she's been through, and Mickey promises to help her find her siblings. Yen Sid decides that it's time for Kokoro, Sora, and Riku to take the Mark of Mastery. Which, she fails because of her inability to hold Darkness within her <- it makes her "unbalanced". After the test, Riku and Mickey go to the Realm of Darkness to look for Aqua. Kokoro wants to help, but Yen Sid refuses to let her since she's pure light - "It would be too dangerous". She gets to help train Kairi and Lea ( she also met a long time ago).
🪷🪷🪷
During the battle between the 7 Lights and the 13 Darkness, Kokoro is finally reunited with her siblings, but at the cost of Vanitas' life. A fact she refuses to accept - she believes he's not really dead, but just hiding somewhere. Her and her siblings are able to say goodbye to Master Eraqus when Xehanort fades. He tells them hes proud of them before fading away with Xehanort.
🪷🪷🪷
Then, when Sora goes missing, the Lights split up to try and find out where he is. Aqua, Terra, and Ventus explore the Realm of Darkness and leave Kokoro in Mickey and Riku's care. Kokoro is devastated at being left behind and losing her siblings again, but no one (except Riku) seems to notice.
🪷🪷🪷
After the final battle, she becomes more argumentative with Aqua and Ventus. She refuses to accept Vanitas' passing, and it causes a lot of tension between them. Kokoro still follows orders and is generally a 'yes man', but her heart has started to feel heavy.
🪷🪷🪷
During her time with Mickey and Riku, Mickey finds a book that had been in Xehanort's possession. Mickey tells Kokoro and Riku that the book is a World where the Villains have won. Mickey also informs them he can't figure out how to get into it. There's a dark aura coming from the book, and Kokoro can hear the cries for help coming from the people who live in that World. Kokoro's fingers trail over the drawing of a coffin, and in the blink of an eye, she's sucked into the World.
Kokoro's in Twisted Wonderland.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kokoro Facts:
She's originally from 'The Age of Fairytales' just like Ventus. And all though neither of them remember it, they were friends way back then too.
She has a very happy-go-lucky personality and is often made fun of for being incognizant.
She is a being of pure light and incapable of holding or manipulating Darkness.
She has a strange ability to be able to hear the secret wishes of another's heart-- she does her best not to use it to pry.
She has a habit of believing what could be considered fairytales and is rather gullible.
She believes what people say at face value.
She loves mushrooms and sweets, and DOESN'T like things that are spicy.
Though she is 13 when the Keyblade Graveyard battle takes place, she is only 15 when she gets reunited with her family (12 years later) - she's also the only one in her family to age at all in the time skip.

Why Mickey is not to blame for leaving Aqua in the realm of darkness — He was busy
All the time I see people say how it's Mickey's fault for leaving her there for ten years— No doubt Anti-Aqua says that and makes him feel bad.
But the thing is he actually only left her there for 1.5 years if you want to say he left her there.
Cause he didn't know where she was for ten years. Ven was hidden and his heart has been lost, but nobody knew where he was except for Aqua. Aqua and Terra went missing and there was no sign of them.
Nobody was that close to Terra that realized Oh he and that person with no memory look oddly similar except he has silver hair.
Mickey didn't know Terra, he only knew Aqua and Ven. The closest people who would know his appearance well were dead, missing, or wouldn't help cause they're antagonists.
Tumblr media
So for several years they probably searched and had no clues also around that time Maleficent was cause chaos with the start of gathering the first few princesses of light' hearts. So Mickey probably had to deal with that.
Then when he realized what was going on and worlds being disappearing he took an opportunity to go to a world that's heart been lost and jump into the door of darkness to find the key that will help close the door
That's when he first finds Aqua and it's been ten years.
She sacrifices herself for Riku and then Mickey and Riku go through the realm of darkness until they get separated somehow. Riku reaches castle oblivion and then Mickey soon helps him and officially becomes his dad.
Then while Sora is asleep, Riku protects Sora and does everything he can to try and help him wake up.
Tumblr media
During this part Mickey and Riku separate for a bit. Mickey probably went to Yen Sid and was like Aqua is actually in the realm of darkness we need to save her.
And Yen Sid probably was like we don't have the capabilities or strength to do that, it's way too dangerous.
He probably also told Mickey about Organization 13 and how they're dangerous and needs to be stopped.
Once Sora wakes up he must make pathways to the other worlds and stop organization 13. Mickey also is trying to find Ansem the wise. So after all that happens they finally go back to the islands and Mickey is probably going to try to see what can be done about Aqua.
Tumblr media
But then wait Jiminy Cricket runs in and tells him about his journal. So they spend time doing that.
After all the journal stuff is over, Mickey informs Master Yen Sid and sends a letter to the destiny Trio that explained what happened.
Master Yen Sid then tells Mickey because of the stuff they discovered through the data in the journal that Riku and Sora must take the M.O.M. Exam because they fear of darkness uprising.
Then while they are taking the Exam, Mickey goes back to his castle cause Maleficent and Pete captured Minnie. Lea/Axel appears saves the day and then saves Sora from being turned to Darkness. And they realized what Xehanort is planning. They finally have the abilities to find Aqua now. Mickey is now free.
Tumblr media
It's only probably been a year and a half since. 1-2 is a year. The events of 2 probably took like a few months, coded probably took 1 month, DDD probably took 1-2 months. And 3 probably took about a few months too.
Reminder that Sora is in 15 for KH2 and KH3.
But they realize they need 7 lights and it's now their mission to find Aqua have Sora get the power awakening to wake up lost friends like Roxas.
Mickey and Riku goes to find Aqua.
And Aqua at the beach, she has trauma being there so long but when she sees ANSEM she says I'm staying here they'll come for me.
And the words she speaks to Mickey in her antiform are only half right. She was possessed by darkness of course she going to say the worse things. Like I don't think she really blames anyone.
It's kinda like people trying to blame one of the trio members in BBS— you can't.
Tumblr media
But it wasn't Mickey's fault.
He was busy and they did it as soon as they could which was about a year afterwards.
She has trauma but she was in there for about a decade. Nobody knew where she was for 10 of those years and then the remaining few years they tried at the best time to get her out
Tumblr media
When I first saw things relating I was like that's kinda plot hole, they didn't mention them before and was now just added but more I think about it. It kinda makes sense.
I feel like they could have gotten her out when Riku and Sora went to kh2 but she probably was at a deeper part of the dark world. But the point is they were all busy dealing with other things.
Yen Sid probably didn't want Mickey going alone. And Riku was literally using darkness and his form was Ansem, who knows what that would do to him if he went there and if he would ever get it back.
So after passing the exam, Riku went with Mickey where Sora eventually helped them out too
And It wasn't Mickey's fault.

Changes I'd make to Kingdom Hearts
Tumblr media
Kingdom Hearts 1
Allow Sora chances to unlock flashbacks in the game that show BBS and KHUX. Not everything, but enough to know a bit about the keyblade war, the Wayfinder Trio's failure, and his ties to Vanitas (secretly his shadow).
Put more weight on the Princesses of Heart, and explain that there are several pure hearts of light, but that the PoH were the first ones found.
Replace Alice with Ariel as a princess of heart. Just makes more sense to me.
Allow Kairi's keyblade to manifest when Sora becomes a heartless.
Touch more on SoRiKai's childhood together; the island they live on is never visited or seen much.
Have Ansem manipulate Riku more than Maleficent; if the series still moves on from Disney in favor of original stories and characters, it makes more sense.
Erase CoM and Days
Tumblr media
Kingdom Hearts 2 1. Allow time for Roxas to gain some memories of "Days," showing a more sympathetic side to the Organization. 2. Let Sora retain his memories at Castle Oblivion, except for Namine. It's mentioned that he was searching for Riku and defeated Organization members, but doesn't recall much else. 3. Have Kairi fight off O13 members, scouring the Place that Never Was instead of being a prisoner. We'd also get hints at Xion when Kairi and Namine meet. 4. Give more credit to Namine's "witch" powers of memory. She'd be able to inform Roxas of his lost memories, as well as inform the Destiny Islands Trio of the organization's origins. 5. Alter the "Riku looks like Ansem" subplot. Maybe make it so Ansem, now tied to Riku, shares a body with him, their hearts intertwined, and Riku fears the loss of control. It's better than "I avoided everyone because using darkness makes me look like our enemy" since it doesn't really move the story along. 6. Have Kairi battle with Sora and Riku against Xemnas. 7. Before Xemnas' defeat, he reveals the destruction of his own body has made them one step closer to Xehanort being revived. Xemnas lies and says that to prevent Xehanort's revival, Sora would have to defeat Ansem--and kill Riku in the process. Riku forces Sora to fight him, but Kairi realizes at the last minute that the defeat will only help Xehanort reunify. Using her powers of light, Kairi manages to separate their hearts so Ansem is defeated without killing Riku.
Tumblr media
Kingdom Hearts: 3D 1. Essentially the same, but Kairi joins the exams. Riku is still the only one who passes, though. 2. Mention that the new 7 hearts have passed along their powers, except for Kairi. 3. Remove young Xehanort, Xemnas, and Ansem as the members of the new O13, replacing them with corrupted Aqua, Demyx, and Vexen--though the latter two defect. Plus corrupted Aqua reveals Ventus' location, allowing Vanitas access to his body, but finds out his heart is missing.
Tumblr media
Kingdom Hearts 3 1. Give more KHUX flashbacks for Larxene and Marluxia, as well as giving us moments to look into O13's psyche as a whole. 2. Give us more worlds and the other hearts of light. I'm thinking Tiana, Pocahontas, and Moana are PoH, joining Anna, Elsa, Rapunzel, and Kairi. And their purpose isn't to fill in for the fighters, but to form the x-blade passively, similar to the original PoH being kidnapped in KH1 to form Kingdom Hearts. 3. Have the villains defeated at different points of the game. Riku would beat Xigbar, Dark Riku, Terra-Xehanort, and Aqua. Sora would defeat Venitas (who is created when Sora gives Ventus his heart back), Larxene, Marluxia, and Xehanort. Kairi would beat Xion and Luxord, and Lea would beat Isa. Aqua and Venitas' defeat would allow them to become guardians of light. 4. Have the villains make minimal appearances to the heroes outside of boss fights. The game kind of gave me "racing to the end" vibes and less appearances by the villains would make the war kind of a surprise attack without it feeling rushed. We as the audience would still get to see the organization members interact with each other, though.

Hi! Can I request romantic sora and riku (separately) helping thier partner with school stress? Summer work is killing me lol
I'm in exactly the same boat, my friend! I actually had quite a lot of inspiration to write this and got a lot more down than I could. Bless these two!
Sora and Riku (seperately) helping their Student!Partner
Sora
Tumblr media
It’s been a long time since Sora’s had to dedicate himself to education. Don’t get him wrong, he’s a very hard worker and does appreciate the point of going to school, but I think saving the world and preserving the balance between light and darkness takes priority.
So, honestly, if his partner was still in full-time education, I think Sora would be equally as excited to learn himself as he would be to help them where he can!
I mean, as far as we know in canon, Sora has difficulties with numbers and reading so, if your work includes much of that, he might not be of much help. But he’s trying his very best! So he’s a brilliant morale-booster.
He will just sit beside you and talk your ear off the entire time you’re trying to concentrate. If someone talking makes work easier for you then this is perfect!...but if you need silence to concentrate you’ll have to tell Sora this before he actually tries to be quiet. He doesn’t take any offence because he’s used to Kairi needing silence to concentrate on her schoolwork when they were younger.
In that case, Sora will sit beside you and try to work out problems in his head or, if you have any spare equipment, he might take notes for you or do some doodles to show you while you’re working to help you get through it all. If there’s any faces on your work, I can guarantee Sora will be drawing moustaches, beards, big glasses, and silly bow ties on all of them.
Riku
Tumblr media
Riku’s a pretty hard worker, just like Sora, and misses the atmosphere of education just the same. He knows it wasn’t the best time of his young life and he hated it back then, but he really sees the value in it now that he’s older.
His understanding of everything is just above that of Sora’s because he paid a bit more attention in his classes than Sora or Kairi. He isn’t as bothered about returning to school, though, because of how morally invested he now is in the battle between light and darkness.
So, if Riku ever spots you doing any schoolwork around him, he might wander over and look over your shoulder at whatever you’re doing. I think he’d be more likely to help if either he sees you really struggling or if it’s a subject he’s really interested in.
Obviously, if you’re struggling, Riku wants to help to make sure you’re not too stressed. He knows he can’t help a whole lot in terms of raw knowledge, but Riku has some really great problem-solving skills. He’s definitely got more of a practical, more logical brain.
He’s also pretty great at creating diagrams because of this practical brain of his, so maybe call on him when it comes to maths or creating revision materials.
However, if it’s something Riku can’t help with, then he’ll help in the form of bringing you a drink or some food to help keep you hydrated and healthy and unstressed. He’ll encourage you to have a bit of a brain reset if you’ve been at it for a while, tell you to take a walk or a quick Gummiphone break - the works.
After everything, though, he’ll sit by your side and offer little pieces of advice now and then or even just little positive affirmations after you make some progress.

I’m gonna rank m/f ships in kh because I’m bored and don’t think I’ve shared most of my opinions on these
Sora x Kairi - the best but only my very specific fanon interpretation and some of my friends’. They are the worst ship when portrayed as Heterosexual
Kairi x Riku - love. Kairi is the only girl I can I imagine Riku with because he’s gay to me. He can be with Kairi because he’s come to care for her so much and they’ve known each other for so long. They were live and die for each other (and have)
Ephemer x skuld - good. They’re so special to each other and belong together in any capacity. Do not separate.
Kairi x Hayner - I could see it. I think they’d be really flirty and I enjoy that a lot
Pence x olette - cute. Their besties so it’s not a hard jump to make. They’d be really affectionate and it’d be adorable.
Kairi x pence - cute. They’d go on shipping dates and be gross in puppy love. We Stan.
Kairi x Roxas - good. Definitely the superior m/f Roxas ship. They have such a unique understanding of the world and of sora who’d be the biggest part of their bond but outside of him they’d be really good friends and tease each other and that’s important for a relationship to me
Kairi x Vanitas - good. Vibe with the contrast between their affinities and Sora vs Vanitas. Definitely like them farrrr more as friends but I appreciate ships with Complexity and Symbolism
Player (if male) x skuld - good. Not as close as Ephemer and skuld but still very important to each other so I enjoy
Ven x Kairi - cute! We love the princesses of light. I prefer them as friends but I think they’d be adorable as a couple
Roxas x Xion - not bad. Much more prefer them as best friends (not quite siblings because their relationship and identities are complicated) but I wont turn away good shipping stuff of them
Sora x Naminé - cute. Definitely would need more development for me to really like but it’s not impossible and I think they’d be good for each other in any capacity
Aqua x demyx - there’s potential. Water and ice, slacker vs hard working. Aqua would either not be impressed by demyx as all, think he’s funny, or get enjoyment out of working him into shape lol. Demyx would think she’s pretty but scary.
Roxas x olette - not bad. Again they’d be good friends so points for that and I think they understand each other the most of the quartet but not my most passionate ship
Hayner x olette - eh. I could see them having had some kind of middle school thing from pressure and not understanding feelings but nothing more serious than that for canon compliant. I could see it for an au where they’re older and in current society but they’re just really good friends to me
Kairi x Repliku - is this a ship? I wouldn’t be mad at it but I don’t even know if it exists lol
Strelitzia x player (male) - eh? Strelitzia liked them but. They didn’t even meet. I don’t know if the player would be particularly interested in her.
Aqua x terra - meh. Their relationship feels much more substantial as friends and I just really can’t see them feeling that way about each other
Sora x strelitzia - I’m holding off on them until we have more information but I can see the potential. Definitely prefer a sibling / best friend dynamic but I’m not opposed to them as a couple (not from anyone in the fandom though because I feel like they’d get it Wrong)
Roxas x Naminé - eh. Again I really think there’s more value to their relationship as friends and they never express those kind of feelings for each other (same with aqua and terra). They barely even know each other.
Isa x Aqua - no. Isa is a little too old for aqua for me and while their dynamic intrigues me I don’t know if that necessarily needs to be romantic. Maybe in an au? But I feel like people would be weird with it so no
Axel x aqua - no. Same as above but even less. Couldn’t even happen in an au
Naminé x Repliku - nah. Repliku definitely holds deep feelings for Naminé but it’s not reciprocated and I think there’s too much between them for it to be a good relationship. Maybe in an au.
Naminé x Vanitas - nah. Somethings just a little off to me. I could see the potential but unless someone really knocked it out the part I don’t think I’d find much interest in it. Maybe in an au
Larxene x marluxia - they’re gay Harold and if by some miracle they’d ever kiss they’d gag afterwards bc it’s like kissing their sibling (them being gay is why there aren’t any other m/f ships with them on this list)
Sora x Xion - gross. They are siblings or at the very least almost the same person but distinct enough that it’s just weird
Riku x Naminé - genuinely offensive to me i despise this ship

going off the musical discussion earlier i also think it’s super neat how you can hear bits of sora’s theme in the tracks that play before, during and after the yozora fight! and it’s more recently come to my attention that if you’re really observant you can pick up riku’s theme inside of yozora’s theme too! (the uh. similarity to naminé’s theme i also hear is probably coincidental? but imagine if it wasn’t. hehe. i mean those first four notes are strong….)super cool and i mean visual similarities between riku and yozora have been blatantly pointed out in canon, so there’s definitely something going on there… 🤔🤔🤔
food for thought braindump coming
one theory is that yozora is kind of like if we had a reality where riku had continued to be the chosen wielder of the kingdom key. despite the name similarities maybe he’s not supposed to be another pseudo-sora at all, but rather the riku equivalent in his own world! so the fight between yozora and sora is like a battle between the guy who’s supposed to be there and the guy who’s not. so that’s why we’ve got riku and sora’s themes playing there because yozora is symbolically riku. the proper hero. the true king. yanno
still doesn’t explain why yozora’s name is a clear parallel to sora’s but there are a thousand reasons that could be (such as riku’s jealousy towards sora? like even as a cool chosen hero with a keyblade he still wanted to be kairi’s savior etc. and after he lost the keyblade yeah of course he wanted to be sora.) or they just thought the dramatic flair of these two having parallel names was perfect idk
but theeeeen it’s like ough. yozora what does ‘this isn’t what i really look like’ mean. does he in his proper form really resemble sora more after all? does he only appear like this to sora because in hindsight this whole thing is clearly a dream sequence for both of them and sora is projecting riku’s appearance onto yozora? maybe because it’s been established now that sora holds no faith in himself anymore but he still holds faith in his friends such as riku? riku is the guy he thinks he should be so he sees this strong hero as riku instead of as himself?
‘i will save you’ something something sora subconsciously hoping for riku to save him in the midst of this hell world even though we all know how this interaction actually ends? like in the midst of darkness and uncertainty, a guy approaches who looks exactly like sora’s best friend whom he has nothing but faith in, and then.,, attacks him. but still claims that he’s doing this for a good cause? that would have to be so psychologically damaging to sora.. idk. sora do you have anxiety?? what’s messing with your mind so badly that you could ever dream of riku attacking you? is it just an old holdover fear from kh1 that you’ve repressed? idk. again of course i know that even in this dual dreamscape yozora must’ve had free will as his own person but maybe his motives were programmed into him by someone else trying to write this story a certain way for sora
(for the record i also kinda wonder if ‘save’ is meant in a sense less like salvation/rescue and more like saving a file onto a computer. cuz data and stuff. hence why yozora was actually being so violent and trying to crystallize him)
i’m just picturing like. y’know how at the end of kh1 riku knew he was about to be separated from sora and kairi and so was like ‘take care of her’? i imagine sora saying something exactly like that to riku shortly before the end when he knew he only had a little bit of time left. it’s like ‘i leave this in your hands. i trust you. take care of her. take care of them all. also save me someday if you can.’ and just like how sora failed his mission to stay and be there for kairi riku fails his mission to stay and be there for kairi. awesoooome
(kairi who, the first time around, was initially ok with staying behind but then got sick of that, but now this time initially wanted to come but decided to trust riku and let it go. ough. tbh i wonder if sora actually gave kairi an instruction like this to either take care of the others or come and save him right before he faded at the end of kh3. like that would’ve been a very fitting moment to say a ‘take care of him/them’ or ‘we’ll find each other’ but who knows if we’ll ever know)
but anyway for at least the time being riku’s the one taking charge of the whole rescue sora mission and sora was probably betting on that bc he knows riku would never sit back and relax in a situation like this. so sora sees that glimmer of hope that’s dressed like riku who then goes and attacks him and i wouldn’t be surprised if some mastermind (*cough* MoM) set it up this way to inflict psychological damage on sora. for some reason
tldr: idk. shimomura i love you. nomura please be kind to sora please please he’s already gone through so much hough
