The Truth - KH Fanfic where Kairi & Riku talk
Implied Kailette and Soriku
Excerpt:
Riku just sighed as he stared at his fist that was curled up.
“I know. I've known for awhile.” Kairi only smiled to herself, humming.
“What?” Riku staggered, “Who… Who told you? I thought Mickey said he wouldn't tell—”
Kairi laughed and shook her head, “No one, you're quite obvious. I mean everyone can tell you're in love with him.”
Summary:
The Truth was always hidden, from Sora— his best friend— and especially Kairi
He couldn't face them or tell them what actually happened that day or why it happened
A big part of everything was his complicated feelings of that time, and they must remain a secret forever.
However, finally tired of hiding his reasons and truths, Riku tells Kairi a long with an apology

Can I have how sora would react to having a big fight with his crush? It's canon that Sora is a very kind and gentle soul and loves his friends, and even looks for them even when they don't want to be found. So how would he try to make up with them if they get really mad after the fight and refuse to talk to him or even be around him? And how would riku react to seeing sora go through all this and help him out?
Our sweetheart, Sora... Seeing my first KH request after my hiatus has reminded me of the imminent Kingdom Hearts 4 and the mobile game coming out and all that exciting stuff. Can't wait!
Sora making up with his crush after a fight HCs
Tumblr media
I can't imagine what someone would want to fight with Sora about just because of how much of a sweetheart he is. The only thing I can see being a point of contention is perhaps his self-sacrifical nature and tendency to throw himself at danger without really...telling people?
And, as someone who presumably likes him back, his crush can't be too happy with seeing him come back from worlds positively battered and bruised without any warning. It's a conflicting situation to be in for sure. This self-sacrifical nature comes from his love for other people which his crush loves, but it makes loving him hard and sort of scary. What if one day he doesn't come back?
His crush had always been there for him to patch his wounds and congratulate him as a wonderful person and a great warrior - hence why he loves them so much - so finding that, one day, they've just decided to avoid him is kind of scary for Sora.
He's unaware of what he's done wrong at first because his duty comes first, to use the power he's been so graciously given to protect people is his number one priority despite his feelings. *They couldn't be mad at that!*
It definitely takes someone giving Sora the same case scenario for him to realise the effect he's had. A lot of Sora's friends experience the same sort of thing since everyone close to them is often in some sort of danger or another. And, of course, Riku is ever the observant one in the trio of islanders...
Riku proposes the same idea to Sora: *How would you feel if the person you loved the most suddenly disappeared without ever telling you?* It takes a moment for Sora to realise the darker implications of Riku's words and the gravity of the situation settles in.
Immediately, Sora takesaction and makes it his mission to find out wherever his crush had been hiding all this time away from him.
It takes some chasing - they are actively avoiding him, after all - and it takes even longer for his crush to finally relent and give in to talk to him. They're trying to protect themself from having their heart broken...but, finally seeing the errors of his ways, Sora argues differently.
Very in touch with the hearts of others, Sora knows that his crush isn't happy being separated from him for so long. While he might not recognise the reason just yet, not thinking he's lucky enough to have his feelings returned, Sora admits his mistake and promises to be a far better friend than he has been. He'll hold their hand and tell them that they get to know everything about what adventures he's going to go on, that this is his duty not just a choice. If he won't do it, who will?

May I please request headcanons for Sora, Riku, and Axel dating a famous female singer and reacting to her performing on stage with a male singer that she’s close to?
characters: sora x reader, riku x reader, axel x reader
genre: modern au / famous au
content notes: female reader ( afab reader ), like a smidgen of jealousy and insecurity
Tumblr media
AXEL
truth be told axel is out here vibing bc god damn that's his girl up there in that sexy outfit and singing like that!
his eyes are completely on you and you alone
he likes your friend... kind of... a smidge maybe he's on thin ice with axel some days but he gets along with him for you
now throughout the times you guys are like pressed together he's like filled with so many mixed emotions like he knows it means nothing but it's also like excuse you??????
( bonus ramble: axel to me is probably gonna be like god my gf is fucking hot while watching you move in that outfit and sing bc lbr here he's a bit smug bc he does know you're gonna go home with him after this. he just doesn't like your friend sometimes with how touchy he does get with you, like sir back up?? he ignores that when he gives you the biggest fucking kiss back stage )
SORA
sora is dramatic but he's not gonna ruin your night or performance over it
sora can't help but both think you look so damn good but also can't help but like rolls his eyes whenever you guys get close to each other
it's this one who is sulking about the performance
sora would have much rathered you two be pressed close that way bc he can't help but feel that little green monster rearing its ugly head
( bonus: sora is torn between sulking and excitement. he denies being jealous so damn vehemently when you ask him if he's jealous and this boy is like laughing and denying it a bit but you can see how his cheeks flush and how much of a LIAR he is and he only starts to sulk when you tell him he's such a liar when you kiss his cheek but that's okay bc he's over it real quick as he's suddenly very !!!! and just all out praising you while touching your hands and some of the clothing to just be !!)
RIKU
he does not like your best friend he will not like your friend but he believes you in him being a friend so he's cordial
he legit just needs to get to know him he's riku
he's jealous, he's angie, but god damn if he's not gonna stare at you the entire show
now he's like not usually clingy but for this imma say he is just slightly at your back while u talk to ur friends
( bonus: an unbothered ( very bothered ) king as he gives your friend a smug look over your head when you run to hug him once he reaches back stage. every ounce of jealousy and irritation melting away instantly as he hugs you tight in his grip and land a big kiss on you as he praises and hypes you up in his own riku way as he showers you in kisses )
Tumblr media
authors note: im ngl it's been a while since i wrote for them so i genuinely apologize if it's like N o

🪞 TwistedχHearts 🗝️Update! Seven | Heartslabyul [26-28]
Tumblr media
When one’s heart returns to itself, it’s like walking through a stream. You are embraced by its cool, refreshing waters. Unknowing of the waterfall that lies beyond the horizon. However, you do become aware, slowly yet surely, of your impending awakening.
First was sound,
“Riddle!”  Many voices called the name desperately, but one stood out. The one who brought you back from the other side. You could hear the tears that wet his lashes, and the lump in his throat.
A wet cough bubbled its way up and out, as two senses hit you at once. The familiar metallic taste flooding your mouth, and dripping down your chin as the distinct smell of char overpowered everything, as well as the disgustingly wet smell of those who put out the fires. A soft roasted vanilla scent that wrapped you in its embrace as if you’d slip away from it in the next moment.
That’s when you realized that you were being held. A strong arm held you close, while a usually soft hand that was now scrapped up was gently brushing along your face.
“Cater…” It was garbled, new blood overflowing out the corners of your mouth. “Oh, ew…”
“You gave me a heart attack…” It was quiet, something you weren’t supposed to hear. You felt a few taps on your cheek, and he spoke louder. “Can you open your eyes? Come on…”
You sighed through your nose, but still nodded. “…gimme a sec…”
You felt him sigh, and after a few moments, you found those green eyes gazing at you worriedly, but sternly.
“Never do that again.”
You smiled, “…no promises.”
He gasped, whipping his thumb across the corner of your mouth. “None of that right now!”
You let your head loll to the side, finding everyone else in varying states. Trey was cradling Riddle, much like how Cater was holding you.
Ace and Deuce were both laid out on the grass, quietly gazing at the sky.
Crowley was standing a bit off to the side, his back was to you, so you couldn’t see what he was doing.
And Grim was even further outside your field of vision, but with a little straining you were able to find him. His nose was to the ground, sniffing for something. After a few moments, and a bit of digging, he found what he was looking for:
A small, jagged, black gem that he popped right into his mouth.
You wondered if it tasted better than this ever so familiar, dreadful metallic flavor.

Kairi is through with her training. It's time for her to take charge and to go on her own journey. Journey with her as she visits various worlds inhabited by characters familiar to all of us as she searches for answers. You never know who she'll run into next.
Chapter 1/?
Humble beginnings for me as an author. :)
“You’d only get in my way.”
                                “You’re not ready yet.”
“You require motivation.”
“Will you continue your training as you were before?”
“What difference does one little light make?”
                                “I need to become stronger.”
“If you have a dream, don’t wait. Act.”
“You’re the fire that feeds Sora’s anger.”
Enough.
Her intention was to sneak in, drop off the crumpled letter, and go. There wouldn’t be a better opportunity. Riku was searching for Sora, Donald and Goofy were still sharing the group’s findings among the different worlds, and she felt ready. Aqua had trained her exceptionally well. The master had understood the intensity, the eagerness, her haste and hunger.
Kairi had felt ready for a while if she was being honest with herself. It was time. She’d checked in with Yen Sid at his dusty tower often, to see if any news of her friends had come to light. She wanted to be the first to know. Often, he’d be conferring with Merlin, with the good fairies, with Fairy Godmother, someone. She’d reached her limit on ancient magical beings discussing more ancient, more magical beings as well as their mystique. She couldn’t sit around any longer, couldn’t spar any longer, couldn’t wait around. At her core, she’d felt at fault for Sora’s destiny. Theirs were intertwined, afterall. If only I’d been quicker.
If only I’d been stronger.
If only I had stayed back.
If only…
She had to do something. Leaving by myself with no plan is something… Isn’t it?
“My dear, whatever are you doing here alone?” A sweet voice spoke.
Kairi whipped around, not expecting to be caught. The surprise held her tongue. The Fairy Godmother’s dark eyes spotted her letter, left on Yen Sid’s empty desk. “Ah. Your journey’s beginning then?”
After hesitating a second too long, Kairi nodded. Maybe it was the embarrassment of being caught, the guilt in leaving at such a moment but she couldn’t bring herself to look at the older woman.
“Well, I suppose you can’t go in that.” Fairy Godmother caught Kairi by surprise for the second time. Kairi looked up finally. Fairy Godmother. wore a grin from ear to ear. “I can’t?” Her first words of the night, finally opening up her chest as they were voiced.
Fairy Godmother shook her head, her hood following behind her. “I’d like to give you a gift. You’ll need… Hm…” She then was suddenly by Kairi’s side, using her wand this way and that, lifting Kairi’s small arms. Kairi watched in anticipation. “Let’s see, your size… and the shade of your eyes… mhm. Something bold, but powerful. Oh, just leave it to me!”
The small smile that spread across Kairi’s face was powerful, indeed.
Her heart felt light as Fairy Godmother said the words. She closed her eyes in anticipation. “Bippity Boppity Boo!”
Light engulfed Kairi for not the first time. When her eyes finally opened, she scanned her new outfit.
She’d been given a beautiful, long pink coat that stopped at her knees. Underneath the coat, she saw a pearl-white blouse which reminded her of Namine. A short, black skirt had been accented with pinks and purples in the seams that popped. Finally, a set of black boots reached halfway up her legs. It made her feel grown, respected, and finally seen as the wielder she was. She couldn’t stop admiring the new look. The clothes gave her a confidence she hadn’t felt in recent memory.
A new voice entered. “Well well, already?”
Stroking his long beard, Merlin stepped up to the women. He eyed Kairi up and down and turned his gaze to Fairy Godmother. He nodded in approvement at the new set of clothes, and focused back on the wielder.
“And what is the plan?” He demanded.
Kairi stammered, biting her lip finally.
Merlin understood her impulsivity immediately. “I see, I see. Not fully formed yet. Powerful word there - yet. May I assist? I have just the thing!”
Joy entered Kairi’s chest at the kindness these magical beings had shown her. She nodded. “Yes, please.”
Merlin waved his own wand, and a faint light partnered with a weight sat on Kairi’s shoulder. As the light faded, a familiar piece of machinery was nestled in the space.
“For me? Armor?” Kairi questioned.
“Not just armor! A glider! It’ll help you find your way and guide you from world to world as you travel. It’ll also allow you to return to us. Safe and unharmed, one can hope.” Merlin said.
“I… Thank you. Both of you.” Kairi beamed, grateful for the gifts they’d bestowed. Especially the gift of freedom; that they were allowing her to go. “How can I repay your kindness?”
“You can get home safe.” Fairy Godmother demanded.
“It’d be nice if you could bring back our wayward boys also. This had better be the last time Sora gets himself lost.” Merlin chimed in.
Kairi nodded. “I’ll try my best to bring them back. With all I have in me.” She hugged the both of the older magicians, stretching on her tiptoes for Merlin, and took a deep breath.
“I’m ready. But I think… I think I’m scared, too.”
“Important things wouldn’t be so important without a little fear.” Merlin stated, matter-of-fact.
She appreciated the wisdom. “I guess you’re right. This feels too important though. I can’t come back empty handed.”
“No one expects you to come back without them. We’re all ready to look also.” With one sentence, Fairy Godmother made Kairi feel calmer.
“We must have you going off, then!” Merlin smirked.
She nodded. “Thank you. Thank you both, again.”
“Safe travels!” “We will be seeing you soon, dear.”
With that, Kairi tapped the space on her shoulder. As the light faded, she was surrounded by metallic armor on a glider.
Now all she had to do was go.

In the heart of the world that never was, where light and darkness blend into a twilight of possibilities, Sora found a companion unlike any other—a friend, a confidant, a partner in every adventure. She was a beacon in the ever-shifting shadows, her laughter a melody that could cut through the deepest gloom.
Their bond was unique, woven from countless shared moments and small acts of tenderness. Whether it was the first bite of a sea-salt ice cream under the radiant skies of Destiny Islands or the last piece of a star-shaped fruit as they watched the sunset from the clock tower in Twilight Town, Sora always insisted she taste the magic first. It was his unspoken vow, a promise of shared experiences and a life intertwined.
And then there were the kisses—soft, affectionate pecks on the tip of the nose that spoke a language of their own. Whether given or received, each was a whisper of affection, a fleeting touch that said more than words ever could. In these gentle exchanges, they found comfort and a reminder of the love that guided them through every battle.
"Sometimes, I wonder what lies beyond even the stars," Sora mused, his gaze lost in the celestial sea above.
She smiled, her eyes reflecting the starlight. "Wherever it is, I'm sure it's filled with new friends and adventures. Just like the worlds we've visited."
Sora chuckled, turning to her with a soft expression. "You're right. As long as we're together, there's no limit to the skies we can explore."
"Have you ever thought about what it means to share a paopu fruit?" Sora asked, his voice a soft murmur against the backdrop of the universe's vast expanse.
She turned to him, her eyes curious. "Isn't it meant to intertwine our destinies forever?"
He nodded, his spiky hair catching the starlight. "Yeah, but it's more than that. It's about sharing everything—the good times, the tough battles, and even the quiet moments like this."
A comfortable silence settled between them, filled with the unspoken understanding that had grown over their journey. It was a bond forged not just in the heat of battle but in the peace that followed.
Suddenly, a meteor streaked across the sky, its tail a blaze of glory that momentarily lit up the night. "Make a wish," she whispered, squeezing his hand.
Sora closed his eyes, a smile playing on his lips. "Done. What about you?"
"I wished that no matter where we go, we'll always find our way back to each other," she confessed, her voice barely audible.
Opening his eyes, Sora leaned in, his breath warm on her cheek. "That's not just a wish. It's a promise," he said, sealing it with a gentle kiss on her forehead. He reached into his pocket, pulling out a paopu fruit, its star-like shape glistening in the dimming light. "Here, you should have the first bite," he offered, holding it out to her.
With a gentle nod, she accepted, taking a small bite. The sweetness of the fruit seemed to encapsulate their shared journey—a blend of joy, challenges, and unspoken promises.
"Thank you, Sora," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "For sharing this moment, for sharing your heart."
He grinned, his eyes crinkling with delight. "And thank you for always being my guiding star." Leaning forward, he placed a tender kiss on the tip of her nose, a gesture that felt as natural as the bond they shared.
She laughed, a sound that danced with the wind, and returned the gesture, her lips brushing against his nose. "I guess we're just two stars drawn together, aren't we?"
"In every way," Sora agreed, his hand finding hers.
They stood up, hands still clasped, as they prepared to return to the Gummi Ship. "Ready to explore more worlds?" Sora asked, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
"Always," she replied, her heart full of anticipation for the adventures that awaited them, knowing that whatever worlds they would discover, their shared moments would be the true treasures they would cherish forever.

Bloom From The Depths🪷
Able to share my @kairizine fic where our KH girls get to go on a mini adventure! Thank you so much again for having me! Was a dream come true to write for Kairi again 🥺💖
Summary: Kairi is called by Leon and Co to investigate a locked file addressed to her within the main-hub of the cavern of remembrance. Namine and Aqua join Kairi on her journey to unlock her memories with a little help from some unexpected friends. While facing her fears Kairi is reunited with those she misses most.
A magical journey through the language of flowers and their deep connection to hearts connected by the dearest of memories.
Written for @kairizine2023 featuring gorgeous spot art by @mellekist!
From the depths of Radiant Garden, a blight remained, sprawling with cavernous pathways and crumbling cliffsides teeming with Heartless. Even the Restoration Committee’s valiant efforts were not enough to repair the scars left by the Dark Seeker’s reign. One of these blights, the Cavern of Remembrance, beckoned a new visitor: a Princess of Heart.
Kairi didn’t think she would return to her home world so soon. The past year she spent asleep had been long enough. Now was the time for action—Sora was still missing. The plan was to train hard until she could join Riku on his search. However, a message from Leon changed the tide.
Kairi, it’s been a while. Cid found something: a file addressed to you. It’s attached to a code we can’t crack, not without your help. Ansem says you’ll need to visit this place called the Cavern of Remembrance. It’s still swarming with Heartless, but I know you’ll be fine.
You up for an adventure?
Excitement flooded her veins. It was the perfect vacation from training. Maybe there was more information locked within the garden’s depths that could help Sora!
Bits and pieces remained of the legend of the Cavern of Remembrance. As a child, someone had told Kairi that it was a place that twisted and formed to suit the purpose of the visitor. Memories, hearts, and wishes worked their magic to weave together a place of reminiscence for the denizens of times past. A part of Kairi felt this place housed more memories and fading emotions than met the eye. There was something there she had to find.
Two companions joined Kairi on this unexpected quest. Aqua had long been itching for some adventure, and Naminé was roped in due to her unique abilities and connection to Kairi’s memories. Breathless and hearts racing, the trio made short work of the darkness that clung to every pipe, cliffside, and waterway. Naminé acted as an excellent guide while Aqua and Kairi cleared the pathway ridden with Heartless in every nook and cranny.
The trio soon found themselves within the depths of the abyss. In between indigo crags of rock and pipes of searing hot steam was a long hallway, reminiscent of The World That Never Was. Kairi stood in the middle of the pure white hall, scattered with the remains of fading Nobodies and the glistening hearts of felled Heartless. A large set of white doors barred their path forward. Her Keyblade shimmered into the air, leaving bright stars in its wake as she walked through them.
Thirteen doors teetered on the edge of nothing—floating above a circular pathway backed by rushing water. In the middle of the circle was a platform, glistening with the light of electrical wires that led up to a series of computer screens. A technological garden of memory and wonder. Its hollow nature, bereft of heart, sent a chill down Kairi’s spine just as the awe set in.
Kairi placed her hand on the terminal.
“It’s strange how similar it looks to The World That Never Was.” Naminé came to her side with an air of curiosity. A ghost of a memory tugged on Kairi’s heart. Once, she had been trapped in a room just like this one.
“Thanks, Naminé—for breaking me out back then.”
“You broke free all on your own. I just provided the door.” Naminé smiled, then set to work scouring the database. Kairi was delighted to see her thriving in her element.
“You’ve both been through a lot, and have come so far. I’m impressed how quickly you both took out all those Heartless!” Aqua said, bounding up behind Kairi and settling beside her. Her eyes shone as she looked expectantly at the computer screens. “What do we do next?”
Naminé drew in her shoulders. “It needs a connection—a memory from your past in Radiant Garden, Kairi. Then, I can use it to connect you to whatever data is inside that locked message.”
Kairi bit her lip. “I’m sorry. Those days are hazy for me.”
She recalled her connections, wishes, and dreams from childhood as snapshots. Glimpses of moments with her grandmother, a moment in a garden of flowers, and a whisper of a story late at night—that was all.
“Maybe you could use my memories of when we met to bring them to the surface.” Aqua put a hand on her chest and looked to Naminé for confirmation.
“That could work! Then please, think back on that time!” Naminé gleefully touched the tips of her fingers together. She turned to Kairi. “Kairi, all you need to do is listen to the melody of Aqua’s heart. Find that resonating connection and focus on it. After that, just step through that door over there. I’ll use it to connect you.” Naminé pointed towards the door with a shimmering Kingdom Key on the front.
Kairi furrowed her brow. “Aqua, what about that memory tugs at you the most?”
“The flowers you gave me. One was a pansy, I think? I thought it was really cute.” Aqua stifled a chuckle. A familiar light shone in her eyes—it drew Kairi straight to the connection she sought. With the melody tugging on her heart, the princess stepped through the door and into the unknown.
****
The space rippled and filled with light, numbing her senses until the scent of dew and freshly cut flowers filled the air. Kairi’s eyes fluttered open to the memory of herself as a young girl, no older than four, with a small bouquet of flowers in her hands. Kneeling before her was Aqua, who hadn’t seemed to age a day since then. Her mentor smiled gently at little Kairi, and gingerly took the flowers with a word of thanks.
“Kairi!” A soft, melodious voice tugged at the edges of her heart. Who was it?
Little Kairi turned from Aqua to call out to the faded figure in the distance until Aqua gently coaxed the girl’s attention back to her. Gingerly, she tapped little Kairi’s necklace, leaving a burst of light in her wake.
Tumblr media
“One day, when you’re in trouble—the light within you will lead you to the light of another. Someone to keep you safe.”
What a kind and warm memory, one that shone like sea glass on the shore. The chains in her memory relinked, twisting and twirling in joy as they nestled in her heart.
“The light has always found a way to guide me and keep me safe.” Kairi breathlessly clutched her necklace, sensing the lingering whisper of the wish. The world shifted in a veil of light, transporting her to another time, another place—one all too familiar.
****
A labyrinthic library formed. The musty scent of old and dusty tomes overwhelmed Kairi with a rush of nostalgia. It was the place from her memories, one that shone vividly in the depths of her heart.
A book will guide you to what you seek. A voice slipped into her mind like a beloved lullaby. Kairi glanced around, sensing no other presence. Curious, she continued to explore the space from her memories.
A soft glow flickered within a nook nearby, guiding her to a book embossed with a pansy flower. Delicate fingers cracked open the tome to see a lone pressed purple and yellow flower peeking out from its pages.
“A pansy, it means ‘thinking of you…’” Kairi mused.
The space shifted, transporting her again to another memory. This time, Sora and Riku’s young sun-kissed grins greeted her, their arms filled with pansy flowers.
“Back then I was homesick for a place I didn’t remember.”
“And we cheered you up.”
With a sharp intake of breath, she turned. Riku stood before her, looking the same as he did when he’d left. “Are you…real?”
“Just his leftover worries and thoughts. You’ve been worried, haven’t you? About being away from us. But you shouldn’t be. Your memories of us are so important that they keep you going when you’re lost, right? You know you’re never too far away. Our hearts are always connected.”
Kairi held back tears. “You always know what to say. Thank you, Riku.”
Riku’s smile faded into the abyss of the library. In her hands was a new book. Where gold once embossed the front, now only the outline of small flowers remained. Gingerly, Kairi cracked open its pages.
A single flower was neatly nestled between water-stained pages, pure white and so delicate she feared it would break. A diphylleia. Kairi couldn’t remember who taught her the name.
The meaning echoed across the chambers of her heart.
“Happiness.”
Kairi!
A soundless voice gripped her heart as a vast expanse of sea and sky spilled out before her. At her feet, lotus floated to the surface, their petals unfurling as if they were reaching for the sunlight. The visage of the final world shimmered into being, as did the fading form of a boy she dearly missed.
“Sora!”
The vibration of his heart resonated deep within her own. Neither data nor sleep was a barrier to an unbreakable connection. Sora placed something in her hands, smiling as he faded into the never-ending sky. In his wake, he left a reminder, an oath—her charm.
“I’m always with you. Right, Sora?” Kairi held the charm close, sensing her heart’s resonance with those she loved most.
So, you found your light.
Kairi turned, stumbling against the lotus dancing at her feet. Each white blossom radiated the warmth of pure light.
****
Standing in the midst of sea, flowers, and sky was an old woman, her cheeks round with a smile and dusted pink. She wore the same shawl Kairi remembered from days spent listening to her stories in the library. Kairi sought out a vibration, a melody resounding from the woman’s heart—but it was barely a whisper.
Data. A memory recorded long ago and leftover from a strong heart. Kairi stepped forward. “Grandma?”
“In a sense, but you know that.” Grandma beamed.
Kairi ran to envelop the woman in a warm embrace. Tears streamed down her face as memories rose to the surface against the darkness. Memories of loss, guilt, and the distinct fear of never returning “home.”
“I miss you. I’m sorry that I forgot.” Kairi sniffled.
“But you didn’t forget, dear. Your heart remembers everything your mind forgot. Good memories are hard to find, and pain sometimes covers up what we want to treasure most. Try not to hold so dearly onto the past that it halts your future. Any memories you might have lost have allowed you to continue forward with renewed strength.” Grandma gently rubbed a tear from Kairi’s eye. Stars danced in the woman’s eyes as she admired how far the girl had come.
“I want to find you! I want to bring you all home .”
“All in due time, my dear. I programmed the data to respond to what your heart needs most. To help you move forward. Now, what has been troubling you?”
A breath shakily escaped Kairi’s chest. “My memories—if I just remembered, then maybe we’d all be able to be together again.”
“Your memories are deep inside you, waiting for the right moment.” Kairi’s grandmother brushed a strand of hair away from the girl’s tear-stained face. The woman pressed her forehead to Kairi’s and closed her eyes to whisper a familiar oath. “Wherever you go, we’re always with you. Never forget, take heart, and move forward.”
Light swallowed the princess whole once again as the warmth of her grandmother faded. When Kairi awoke, two concerned faces greeted her.
“Kairi! I’m so glad you’re awake! You just came back in a daze and nothing I did would get through to you.” Naminé grasped Kairi’s hands and held back tears.
“Thank goodness.” Aqua breathed a sigh of relief as she bent down to help Kairi to her feet. She wore a bewildered expression as she gently plucked a purple flower from behind Kairi’s ear.
“An azalea?” Naminé said.
Kairi took the flower and rubbed its stem between her fingers. “‘Please take care of yourself.’ That’s what the message was. Though my heart may be estranged from those I love, they’re never too far. They’re all right here inside me—urging me to keep moving forward.”
You’ve faced your fate well.
Tumblr media
A heart song echoed in her chest. The remnant of a memory tugged on her lingering connection. Kairi reached for it.
Like a lotus, stretch towards the light. Let your heart bloom even in the deepest darkness, beautiful and strong like I know you are.
Notes:
Thank you so much for reading! It was amazing being a part of Kairi Zine Vol 2 Destiny’s Embrace. Still pinching myself that I actually got to write for it and work with the wonderful @mellekist. You can find her gorgeous spot art for the zine here! And leftover sales are still open as of 10/6 so be sure to snag a digital copy if you’re wanting more Kairi goodness or merch! I hope you enjoyed this little story focusing on Kairi’s feelings about her memories and missing those she loves most. I loved writing it! Some notes about the chosen flowers below! I really had fun picking which flowers to focus on. These are notes I made during the planning phase and really are just fun extra notes on the themes I wanted to explore. Hope you enjoy this inside look! ***** Main themes I chose were estranged love (lotus), cherished memory (please take care of yourself for me/Azalea) connection (pansy/thinking of you), and overcoming guilt associated with Kairi being estranged from those she loves. The lotus while meaning estranged love-also refers to the loss of memory for “rebirth” and becoming stronger. Through multiple “rebirths” darkness is removed and the purest light is formed. Loss of memory, sharing of her heart with Sora and regaining connections (being closer with Naminé and Aqua) has resulted in many “rebiths” for Kairi. As she exits the data she has changed a bit and had another rebirth. She’s no longer feeling estranged from those she loves, she was reminded they’re always with her. For the flowe she sees when being “reunited” with Sora I played with the meaning of Show my true self for Diphylleia. The flower is called a skeleton flower for it becomes translucent in the rain. A nod at Sora’s fading form at the final world. For the last theme, Kairi reiterates that part of what makes her whole is her connections to her friends—her true self has been shaped by her connections and she is grateful to carry them with her always. I wanted to touch on how Kairi is missing those she’s estranged from and having guilt that she’s not with them—through memories or physically. Kairi also feels guilt for not fully remembering her days in Radiant Garden. She feels they must be important memories, there is an imprint on her heart. Kairi’s important connections remind her that she has nothing to feel guilty about. She is with them, always. Although she’s estranged from those she loves most, those cherished memories and connections (regardless of how strong) are what makes her whole, even if she doesn’t fully remember them. She’s become so strong and taken charge of her fate. There are things out of her control (losing Sora, Riku traveling alone, being separated from her grandma, not having access to all her memories) but what she does have control of is how she faces it—and she’s faced it well. Thank you so much for reading!

Hello! I've been dying for your inbox to open again! I love your writing style ; w;! May I ask for Riku falling in love with a princess of heart from a moon theme kingdom who seems out of his reach? Sorry if its confusing ; w;
Oh, thank you so much!!! Little cutie, I was so excited to write this, I adore lunar aesthetics, especially in conjunction with more graceful characters like Riku. He's such an interesting character to write for! I hope you enjoy this!
(Though the term "Princess" obviously implies a female-coded reader, it's the only gendered term used. Approach that how you will, lovelies!)
Riku x Princess of Heart!Reader HCs
Tumblr media
It’s likely that, after the first few times the Princesses of Heart were targeted, you became one of the new Seven Princesses of Heart. Through some sort of magical means, you were put into contact with the other princess, an elder of which introduced you to the responsibilities of a Princess of Heart.
In a kingdom that’s naturally so dark, illuminated solely by the moon, your heart, and your people’s radiance, it’s only natural that darkness would strike one day or another. As a Princess of Heart, it was your responsibility to reach out to those who could help you and your people: Keyblade wielders. The concept was pretty foreign to you being a kingdom so far out from the rest of the worlds, but so were the Heartless themselves and, frankly, you and your kingdom were afraid.
Of course, knowing how efficient the Keyblade wielders were, you weren’t surprised by how quickly one arrived and by how eager he seemed to help. What you were surprised by was how close to your age the Keyblade Master was. Riku was just as shocked. Sure, he had known other Princesses of Heart to be quite young: Kairi, Alice, Snow White, etc. but seeing someone his age leading an entire kingdom and trying their best to bravely face the darkness…that was new.
He was sent to your kingdom for a reason, though, and had to fight off the Heartless, protect your people, and seal the Keyhole first before he could gawk about you any longer. Your bravery in the face of darkness astounds him and leaves him completely in awe. You’re out in the field with him, using healing magic to heal him and to rescue your people. This is such a new, frightening experience for you - how are you not terrified?
The truth is that hiding your fear is tiring and, quickly after the Keyhole is sealed and the Heartless have disappeared, you retreat back into your place of residence beneath the moonlight. Riku is hesitant to leave so soon (though you can’t recognise why,) so you invite him to spend some time beneath the eternal night of your world with you.
He makes a very conscious effort not to touch you or even breathe the same air as you, to bare his Keyblade in front of you or be cold. At first, he thought it was only your title and your prestige that stopped him from being more liberal than he is. Then, when the fighting was over and he saw you cast in pale white moonlight, Riku realised he had fallen hard.
If anything, he tries to stray even further from you when he realises. He knows you’re not fragile so he’s not afraid of hurting or breaking you…but he feels as if he’s not worthy to be in your presence. Where he backed down and cowered before darkness before, you immediately stood up to protect your people; where he felt the world had betrayed him, you embraced the love and trust of your people; where he felt intimidated by such a person, you felt free to compliment his fighting prowess and talent with the Keyblade.
Your grace leaves him flustered and, without recognising it, you’ve been chipping away at this wall he's incredibly hastily and shoddily built around his heart. Riku is in denial, yet you can already tell he’s fallen for you by the redness on his face revealed by the moonlight and the twitching of his nervous hands when you take them in your own.
He might tell you he’s undeserving of a princess, especially one of Heart, but need you remind Riku that he’s a Keyblade Master? If anything, he’s out of your league! You both laugh and, though Riku still ends up feeling a twinge of insecurity sometimes when he glances over at your conjoined hands, he’s proud to have your number in his Gummiphone when he heads back to the worlds he’s more familiar with. Maybe he’ll take you to Destiny Islands one day and you can share a special fruit. Or maybe you have a special romantic tradition from your own world you can share with him?

I’m so excited to have the chance to share my full story for the @destinytriofanzine!
It was a lovely project to be part of with incredible and talented creators for every page. The leftover sales are open right now and if you love the Destiny Trio make sure to check it out!
For my piece, I wanted to focus on how their friendship has evolved over the years, but also all the ways it has stayed the same. We didn’t get much of them together in Kingdom Hearts 3, so I had a mighty need to see them all having quality time again.
So without further ado, here is my fic!
The Good Ole Days
Words: 2193
------------------------------
Flower petals danced on the warm evening breeze. Sora inhaled deeply, taking in the sweet subtle aroma. His fingers laced behind his head, a lazy smile curving his mouth, as he descended the stone stairs leading into the garden courtyard. Radiant Garden’s castle towered behind him. Its copper adornments shimmered in the light of the setting sun, reflecting rainbows across the courtyard below where a very familiar gummiship sat awaiting its crew.
“Tomorrow’s finally the day,” Riku said, catching Sora’s attention.
Sora peeked over his shoulder at his best friend just a few steps behind, his smile growing. Looking back out over the garden he nodded. “After all this time, it’s really—” his words cut off with a large yawn.
Riku scoffed. “You better not be falling asleep on the job.” He caught up to Sora and nudged him with his shoulder.
“Woah!” Sora stumbled, nearly losing his footing on the edge of a stair. “Hey, watch it!” he scolded with a laugh. “Do you want me to fall?”
“Will it keep you awake?” Riku asked, jumping back when Sora swatted at him. “Hey! Take your own advice.”
“Are you two done?” Kairi called out to them, poking her head out from the gummiship. Despite her arched brow, she couldn’t hide the amusement in her eyes.
“Kairi!” Sora waved with a grin before running down the rest of the stairs. “We were wondering where you went off to.”
“Unlike the two of you, I’ve been busy,” she teased.
Sora’s nose scrunched up in just a way that Kairi couldn’t help but snicker. He crossed his arms and asked,  “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Instead of replying, Kairi giggled and went back into the gummi ship. Sora followed. He ducked under the low entryway, the metal floor clunking under his feet. Entering the cockpit, he took a deep whiff of the familiar smell: grease along with a tinge of sea salt from the palm tree air freshener hung over the back of Kairi’s seat in the cockpit. The scents married together oddly well, like a mixture of two places that reminded Sora of home.
Sora’s shoulders relaxed and he lowered into his seat with a wistful sigh, closing his eyes. A heavier set of feet rattled the metal floor and Sora instantly smirked.
“Sora,” Riku groaned, but Sora could hear the smile in his voice without even having to see it. “Didn’t I just say to not fall asleep?”
Sora stretched in an exaggerated way, making Kairi laugh and Riku roll his eyes. “I’m not! I’m just… resting until Kairi tells us what to do.”
“You know me too well,” Kairi said, holding out a piece of paper that tickled Sora’s cheek.
He opened one eye and grabbed the paper, seeing a list of supplies scribbled over it.
“I made a list of everything we should need for the trip,” Kairi explained, handing another list to Riku. “I gathered everything for my part, so now it’s up to both of you to get everything else and bring it back here.”
Riku mumbled, reading off the list, then asked, “Do we really need”—he double checked the list, —“lilium bulbs?”
“Mhm.” Kairi nodded. “Princess Rapunzel requested them. And she needs them fresh, so no slacking off.”
Sora laughed. “You don’t have to worry about that Kairi. Riku and I will have”—he squinted as he read off the list—“Niblet hairballs…?” He paused and sat up. “Huh, actually Kairi, I’m with Riku.” He scratched the side of his head. “I don’t even know where to find that.”
With a giggle, Kairi told them, “You’re just going to have to trust me. According to Little Chef, those hairballs help make a special spice. But if you guys don’t want to do it, I can handle it myself.”
She reached over to grab the list from Riku, but he lifted it out of her reach. “Don’t worry, we’ve got it. I almost forgot how everyone wants Sora to run their errands when he goes on a mission.”
“They don’t do that to you guys?” Sora asked.
Kairi chuckled. “Only because we don’t tell everyone when we’re going somewhere.”
“Yeah, you tell everyone who’ll listen, so of course you get roped into things,” Riku explained, sighing and rubbing the back of his neck. “Which ropes us into it too, now that we’re going on missions together.”
“Oh, sorry ‘bout that,” Sora sheepishly apologized.
“It’s fine.” Riku ruffled Sora’s hair as he went past, snickering at Sora sputtering and swatting him away. “I’ll be back in a bit.” He held up the list and slightly shook it. “So will Sora, at least, if he can stay awake long enough to finish before tomorrow.”
Sora smirked and jumped up, his hands firmly on his hips. “Say that again!”
Kairi’s laugh cut between them as she snuck past and went to the entryway of the gummi ship. “I know a way to make sure he stays awake.” She paused for dramatic effect, then put up her hand above her head. “A race!”
“Yeah!” Sora bunched his hands into fists.
“What?” Riku rolled his eyes. “Don’t you think we’re a little—”
“Ready?” Kairi continued on regardless. “Set…” She looked between the boys. Riku feigned indifference, but he put the list in his pocket and inched closer to the exit of the ship. Sora bounced on the balls of his feet, grinning in anticipation. Kairi matched his grin and jumped out of the way of the entryway. “Go!”
The boys burst out of the gummi ship, shoving and clambering to get in front of the other. Kairi’s laughter faded behind them as they disappeared into the town. Sora skidded around a corner and took a moment to look over the list. Glowing particles rained around him, dissipating with sparkles when they landed on the paper. Sora’s expression scrunched until he looked up and saw Riku jumping from building to building, magic swirling around him.
“Hey!” Sora called after him, his hand cupped around his mouth. “That’s cheating!”
“Can’t hear you, too busy winning!” Riku’s voice echoed back.
Sora snorted, a grin cracking across his face. “Alright then, you asked for it!”
Getting a running start, Sora jumped and hung off a brick wall. The cool rough texture tickled his hands just for a moment before the rush of magic burst around him. His adrenaline ignited with a thrill of shivers. Sora released an even breath and pushed his feet off the brick, vaulting into a flip and landing in a standing position against a tall building just across the way. He ran straight up the wall, taking a moment to wave at a little girl watching him through the window with big eyes and a slack jaw.
He gripped the edge of the rooftop and flipped himself onto it. Looking out into the town, he spotted Riku not too far off, nearly in the marketplace. Without wasting time, Sora got a running start and leapt off the roof. His magic surged, brightening around him and making him seemingly weightless. He flew into the market and landed in the center square with a roll. A few townsfolk gasped, but many were used to the antics of Keybladers coming in and out of Radiant Garden by now. Sora smiled and apologized for the surprise, but quickly disappeared into a shop before he was questioned. A bell chimed along with the door swinging open. Sora scoured the shelves, mumbling about what he needed. He went through aisle after aisle, all the while mentally reminding himself at how far ahead Riku likely already was. Minutes passed; Sora wasn't sure how many, but it seemed like ages.
With a groan, Sora leaned his head against a shelf. “Ahg, it’s hopeless.”
“Looking for this?” Riku asked from behind.
Sora spun around, his face scrunching in feigned dismay before Riku casually tossed over the bag of various snacks. He scrambled to catch it, but managed. “How—”
“You were mumbling again.” Kairi peeked around the aisle.
“Kairi?” Sora asked. “What are you doing here?”
Linking her hands behind her back, Kairi walked further into the aisle. “Weeeell, I got bored waiting, and you two were taking too long. So I decided to come look for you guys!”
“Then I spotted her in the courtyard and we found you here,” Riku finished explaining. “How many things you got left?” His calm demeanor cracked into a snort of laughter when Sora blankly stared back at him. “I’ll take that as everything.”
“No, I, well—” Sora scrambled for a comeback, before chuckling along with Riku and ruffling the back of his hair. “Donald usually handled the shopping.”
Riku huffed an amused breath while Kairi stifled a laugh.
“Come on”—Kairi walked backwards, then spun on her heel to lead the way—”we’ll finish it together.”
Sora looked down at the bag of snacks in one hand, then to the supply list in the other. “Sure, but… what about the race?”
“I have most of my stuff already back at the gummi ship.” Riku shrugged, then smirked. “But if still doing the race means that much to you, I guess I could automatically win.”
“Yeah, I guess we are a bit old to be racing, huh?” Sora pointed out, getting laughs in response. “Did you really get everything on your list already?”
“Most of it,” Riku replied. “Just the weird items left.”
“Then it’s a good thing I came along.” Kairi grinned over her shoulder as they settled in the checkout line.
“I’m glad you did,” Riku admitted. “I felt a bit bad leaving you on the ship anyway.” He chuckled as Kairi bumped him with her hip. “Don’t push it.”
“Me too,” Sora sighed, but quickly perked up as he held up the list. “But working together, getting all this stuff will be a breeze! Kairi with the know-how, Riku with the navigation, and me with the… uh…”
“Sweet optimism?” Kairi asked.
“Yeah,” Sora agreed with a laugh. “I have no idea where to find most of this stuff on my own.”
“Obviously.” Riku grabbed the bag of snacks from Sora’s hand and handed it to the clerk.
“Let’s drop this off at the ship and then maybe we can pick up some dinner.” Kairi tapped her finger to her chin.
Riku waved politely to the clerk as they turned to leave. “Weren’t you the one that told us we needed to focus on getting the shopping done before anything else?”
“Hmm, I don’t recall,” she replied with a cheeky smile.
“Aw come on Riku, we can take a break!” Sora pushed open the shop’s door, his fingers laced behind his head. “Buuut I guess if we wanna be quick we could race back to the ship?”
“Yeah!” Kairi jumped in agreement.
Riku scoffed, walking past, seemingly uninterested. As he stepped out onto the sidewalk, a surge of magic shimmered around him and he jumped away before the others had even left the door. “Last one there has to pay for everyone’s dinner!”
“Riku!” Kairi scolded, running after him.
“Wha- hey, wait!” Sora yelled, his voice riddled with laughter before he too jumped into action behind Kairi.
They were all neck and neck, bouncing between buildings and ziplining across clotheslines hung in alleyways. It wasn’t long before they saw the gummiship still stationed in the garden courtyard, golden light glowing from the entryway.
Sora vaulted off a rooftop and glided over, Riku just behind. He nearly reached the courtyard, his hand reaching out for the ship, when a sudden weight hefted on top of him. With a yelp, Sora fell to the ground. He sputtered amidst the erupting laughter and groans from Kairi and Riku. Looking over his shoulder, he realized Kairi had him and Riku both pinned down.
“Kairi, what the heck?” Riku asked.
With a giggle, Kairi lifted her hand and tapped the gummi ship. “I win.”
Sora and Riku stared at her, then at each other, before all three of them bubbled into a fit of laughter. They untangled themselves to lie on their backs and gaze up at the emerging stars. Their amusement simmered, their breaths filling the air along with the occasional cricket chirping amongst the flowers.
“Some things never change,” Riku said after a while. “Do they?”
“Yeah,” Sora agreed.
“I like it.” Kairi clasped her hands over her heart. “After everything, sometimes I worried what it would be like… being together again, a trio of friends. Especially with our first mission together. Would we still be comfortable with each other? Would our inside jokes and memories still matter? And… after tonight, I think I know they do.”
“I think you’re right.” Riku looked towards their gummiship with a fond smile.
“Even after all this time, we’re still the three kids wanting to find another world,” Sora said, gazing towards the stars with a rare melancholy voice.
“Well then”—Kairi sat up—“we’d better get dinner and finish gathering supplies before it gets too late. We have a big day tomorrow.”
Sharing smiles between them, the three friends ventured back into town, preparing for their new adventure. Together.

Me two years ago: *reads a Soriku fanfiction with soft dom Riku* Oh shit I think I'm into that.
Me today: *reads a Soriku fanfiction with kinky dom Riku bending Sora over the baking counter* OH SHIT I AM DEFINITELY INTO THAT.
Both of these fics have been written by the same author, so thank you dear author for giving me my dom Riku sexual awakening.
