hi Silver! o/ because that fanart made me wonder - would you happen to know when/where Dick's stuffed elephant plush Zitka turns up in the comics?

Yeah, I think your instincts are right - it's a truly adorable bit of transformative fandom, but I'm 95% percent sure it's not comics canon. Barbara has canon plushies, but I don't think anyone else does.

I got kinda invested in the investigation (it's hard to prove a negative!) and I ended up typing out an entire History of Elinore/Zitka, so, uh, if you're curious, meet me below the cut for:

We're gonna go in chronological order!

Dick's circus elephant friend was first created for practical reasons: in Batman 436, Marv Wolfman does a big expanded flashback to Dick's circus backstory as a way to subtly show us Tim before officially introducing him (so that we can have a technically-solvable mystery-of-Tim's-identity in LPoD). In this comic, there's an elephant named Elinore who loves Dick:

Batman 436 comes out in August 1989. New Titans 60 comes out a few months later, in November, and guess what? When Dick visits the circus, he is suddenly surprised by an unexpected blast from the past! It turns out that even though it's been years, Elinore still remembers him!

Here's the part where Elinore remembers Dick:

SUCH a cute elephant. I love her.

(Guess who else still remembers Dick even though it was so long ago. Guess which other character is about to be an unexpected blast from the past. Guess which character Elinore is directly paralleling guess guess guess sorry everything is about Dick and Tim in my mind but I can focus I swear)

Four years later, in 1993, Batman: The Animated Series retells Dick's origin story. They like and keep Wolfman's elephant, but they change her name to Zitka:

Wolfman doesn't return to the elephant beyond those two appearances, and a few years down the line, New Titans gets cancelled and Wolfman's not writing Dick anymore anyway. So the animal gets abandoned for a while, until Devin Grayson, a fan of both Wolfman and B:tAS, revives the Wolfman-era Titans team in JLA/Titans and then the ongoing series Titans 1999.

Grayson then brings back the elephant in a flashback to Dick's past in Titans 16 (Jun 2000), where she imports the B:tAS name. Sometimes I'm skeptical of TV-to-comics imports, but honestly, I endorse this one. You lose the alliteration, which is a shame, but IMO Zitka is a better elephant name than Elinore.

Here's Dick with the newly-christened Zitka in Titans 16:

Grayson also briefly references the elephant in Gotham Knights 20 and - in a final angsty callback - in Nightwing 88 (Feb 2004), where Zitka tries futilely to comfort Dick in the midst of his trauma conga line:

... And... honestly, I think that's it for comic appearances? The two Wolfman comics plus the three Grayson comics.

Both Wolfman and Grayson are writing multiple titles - Batman, New Titans, Titans, Gotham Knights, and Nightwing between the two of them, spanning a big chunk of Dick's post-Crisis canon - and both writers use the elephant for heartwarming moments of nostalgia, which means if you're doing a post-Crisis readthrough for Dick, Elinore/Zitka feels memorable. But I don't think she actually shows up that much.

For post-2011, I am not as well-informed - throwing this out to the dash? anyone know? - but I feel like Zitka the heartwarming symbol of Dick's heartwarming circus past is, uh, thematically very at odds with the Court of Owls evil!circus vibes, so my instinct is that this story element was almost certainly dropped in the reboot.

Did Dick ever have a stuffed elephant toy in comics?

In WFA, yes; in main comics continuity, no. Technically, I have not read every comic ever published, so I could be wrong!! But I don't think so.

Below, find my rambling reasoning on the tonal vibes of pre-Crisis, post-Crisis, and post-2011, and why this particular story element doesn't seem right to me for the first two.

Pre-Crisis (...okay, mostly the Silver Age): stuffed animal, yes or no?

tl;dr no, requires too much background knowledge on the part of the reader, plus the elephant wasn't a thing until later

Elinore doesn't get created until post-Crisis, but also just generally, pre-Crisis callbacks are more along the lines of this reference in Batman 129 (published in 1960), where, wow, Batman and Robin are hunting jewel thieves - and it turns out Robin recognized this strongman! BUT HOW?!

The comic goes on to recap Dick's entire origin story in flashback, on the assumption that you may not know it.

(BTW, if you'd like to know more about Haly's Circus throughout the years, nightwingology has a great post here summarizing a lot of fun plotlines and characters!)

Basically: Silver Age comics are very self-consciously episodic and kid-friendly; they're not generally gonna do overly-elaborate callbacks because they don't know what comics their kid readers may have randomly picked up or remember.

By the time of post-Crisis, comic books were being written for an adult audience buying from the direct market, i.e. readers who are collecting whole runs & don't need or want Dick's origin story to be recapped to us in full every time it's referenced. That's why in post-Crisis, we get stuff like "hey, neat, this particular soda brand is getting mentioned in several different books!!" or "in order to understand this story arc, buy SIXTEEN DIFFERENT COMICS in FIVE DIFFERENT RUNS and read them ALL ACCORDING TO A NUMBERED ORDER and also you better be following the individual plotlines and recognize these five minor characters who we don't bother to introduce!! Good luck!!" But the elaborate post-Crisis plotlines - and subtler worldbuilding like a stuffed animal callback to Dick's backstory - don't make a lot of story sense UNLESS you're imagining your readers as completionist adult fans.

So IMO a stuffed animal wouldn't be a pre-Crisis thing unless it was The Episodic Story Of the Week, and I don't think a stuffed animal is action-adventure-y enough for the fast-paced storytelling of the Silver Age. (Unless it, like, came to life and tried to eat you or something.)

Post-Crisis: stuffed animals, yes or no?

tl;dr: no, Dick's a manly tough guy, he's not gonna have a stuffed animal, that'd be lame, like something Tim might do

Part of the edgy grimdark adult vibes in 80s/90s comics is that some characters who used to be kinda silly & goofy & lighthearted - like Batman and Robin - get reimagined as Serious and Angsty and Edgy in a Tough Cool Manly Brooding Way. This massively affects characterization for Bruce, Dick, and Bruce and Dick's relationship.

(I obviously love this change & love the tense Bruce-and-Dick interactions, but plenty of fans of the earlier fluffy comics really disliked the edgy retcons of Miller / Wolfman / Starlin / et al.)

The upshot is that post-Crisis is a period when you could have a recurring reference like a stuffed elephant, but you wouldn't have a stuffed elephant, not for Dick. I think a toy like that would be too cutesy / childish / effeminate to give a male character in post-Crisis, unless you were poking fun at him.

Now, you could probably let Tim have a stuffed animal, because Tim is sometimes cool but also sometimes a tryhard loser who is faking being cool and not entirely pulling it off (see e.g. the Robin comic where he practices tough-guy faces in the mirror, or the Teen Titans comic where Conner discovers his cringy Enya CD, or when he's fanboying over Connor and it's awkward, etc etc.). A stuffed animal would be deeply embarrassing, and you'd have to be careful to compensate by having Tim do something cool afterward - but Tim's character concept allows for "he's kind of a loser sometimes."

But Dick isn't!! In post-Crisis, Dick's a tough / impressive / "cool guy" character, the kind of guy anyone would want to be, even in the flashbacks where he's Robin, and even in the stories where he's more lighthearted than angsty. It'd be kinda lame for Dick to have a stuffed elephant, so he wouldn't. I feel like Dick would be more likely to poke fun at it if someone had one, like when he's making fun of Wally for liking the Hardy Boys. Dick could have a Batman action figure, at most, and if he had one he would have it ironically.

Basically: in post-Crisis, a male character hugging a stuffed elephant feels more likely to be a punchline to me, not something poignant. (Even with Tim, Tim could have an embarrassing stuffed animal, but he couldn't hug it when sad - that's too far. Maybe Booster Gold might do this. Probably he wouldn't, but spiritually, he would. Sorry Booster ilu! <3)

Instead, Dick instinctively deals with his inner turmoil like the TORTURED ACTION HERO he is: by punching things and brooding and yelling and joining the mob and sleeping on rooftops and going on obsessive secret missions and acquiring Angsty Stubble!! Just like Batman!

(Technically I don't know if Bruce ever joined the mob but you know he would.)

Anyway as you know this is my favorite continuity and I am poking fun affectionately, but uh, yeah sdfsfdsfs. No stuffed animals.

Post-2011 / Infinite Frontier / Wayne Family Adventures: stuffed animals, yes or no?

tl;dr it's in WFA! Probably not anywhere else, but it could be.

Post-2011 stuff tends to be cutesier overall, most of all in the current Infinite Frontier era. So I don't feel like this would be tonally out-of-line with IF comics. Taylor tends to go for more meme-y references rather than fanfic references, though.

So the obvious best fit is WFA, which is aiming for a rough approximation of Silver Age family-friendly vibes - wholesome, episodic plots, Teaching Good Moral Lessons For The Youth, etc. - plus lots of Easter eggs for fanfic readers and some comic references.

everyone asks who bro is, everyone asks where bro is, but no one asks how bro is...

i'm fine btw LMAO i just took a step back because i had some extremely time sensitive and very personal matters to attend to (things i will not talk about so please do not ask), and while i was gone, i realized i was working way too hard on everything here when i have so many other things in my life that are way more important like my job(s), my family, my kids, my physical health— the list goes on. plus, i kept feeling down about myself and about the amount of interactions on my fics, and i had to stop and realize...

i'm working so hard on something that i do for free. something that i once did to make myself happy now feels like a job. i lowkey lost a lot of joy while writing the past couple of fics because it wasn't fun for me anymore, and i hated that feeling. i started this account to write for myself, and i totally forgot that as i felt like i had some sort of obligation to requests, updating regularly, etc.

so, i'm no longer taking requests. i may reopen my soft/hard hours at some point in the future, but i will not be taking any requests from here on out. i want to focus on the fics that i had planned from the very beginning of the creation of this account, and i want to write for myself again because i lost sight of myself.

also, not to get on a heavier note, but i've had multiple people— anons and even people i considered friends— on this site use me, make me feel small, act as if i'm worth absolutely nothing, and so on and so forth, and it made me forget that writing is my main, actual occupation, and that i am a good writer. above all, i'm a human, and i have feelings even if i choose not to express all of them here. just because i'm nice, it's not an invitation to take advantage of me.

and no need to worry— i'll still be here! but i'm going to write for myself from this point on, and i hope that the things my brain births will still pique everyone's interests. thank you <3

Little Haven: Springbreak Chapter 3

Miss Emma smiled warmly at Tim before heading off to fetch his lunch. "I'll be right back with your food, Timmy. You get to know your new friends."

Tim watched her leave, feeling a bit nervous but also excited about talking to Sophie. He turned back to her, and she was still smiling brightly at him.

"So, Tim," Sophie began, swinging her legs under the table. "Is this your first time here?"

"Yeah, it is," Tim admitted, feeling the warmth of her friendliness. "I just got here today."

"Wow! That's so cool!" Sophie exclaimed. "I'm here every day while my daddy is at work."

Tim was taken aback by her casual mention of being at the daycare daily. "Really? Every day? What does your daddy do for work?"

Sophie's face scrunched up in confusion, her pigtails bobbing as she tilted her head. "Work? Um... he does... grown-up stuff. I'm not really sure."

Tim chuckled at her innocent answer. "Oh, okay. What did you do before coming here every day?"

Sophie brightened up, clearly understanding this question. "When I was a big kid, I worked as a barista at a coffee shop. But then my daddy rescued me from that, and now I get to be a little girl all the time!"

Tim was intrigued. "Rescued you?"

"Yeah!" Sophie said with a big smile. "I don't have to pretend to be a boy or worry about adult stuff anymore. It's so much more fun being a little princess!"

Tim nodded, understanding a bit more about Sophie's life. "I go to college," he said, thinking about his own responsibilities.

Sophie's eyes widened in surprise. "College? What's that?"

"It's, um, a place where big kids go to learn like a school," Tim explained, realizing how complicated it sounded.

Sophie looked Tim up and down, her eyes lingering on his shortalls and the slight bulge of his diaper. She giggled, covering her mouth with her hand.

"You don't look like you're big enough to go to school," she said with a mischievous grin.

Tim blushed deeply, feeling a mix of embarrassment and amusement. "I-I am, really," he stammered. "It's just that... well, I needed a break from being big."

Sophie giggled again, clearly enjoying his discomfort. "Well, you sure don't look anything like a big boy now. But that's okay! Being little is way more fun."

Tim couldn't help but smile at her playful teasing. "Yeah, it is," he admitted, relaxing a bit more.

Miss Emma returned with a tray in each hand, her smile warm and reassuring. She set Tim's tray in front of him first, revealing a plate of pancakes already cut up into bite-sized pieces and a very blunt fork. The syrup was drizzled in a smiley face, adding a touch of whimsy.

"Here you go, Timmy," Miss Emma said gently, patting his head. "Enjoy your lunch."

She then placed Sophie's tray in front of her. Sophie's pancakes were whole, accompanied by a regular knife and fork. Miss Emma glanced back at Tim. "I'll be right over there if you need anything," she said, pointing to a highchair where a little was already fussing for her attention. She left them to take care of the other little, who was eagerly waiting for her feeding.

Tim picked up his fork, feeling a bit self-conscious about his meal being pre-cut. Sophie, on the other hand, seemed unfazed as she started cutting her pancakes with practiced ease.

"These pancakes are the best," Sophie said between bites. Tim took a bite of his pancakes and had to agree—they were delicious. "Yeah, they are really good."

Sophie looked at him with a twinkle in her eye. "So, Tim, what do you like to do for fun? When you are not pretending to be a big boy at school "

Tim blushed again at Sophie’s playful teasing, but he couldn’t help but smile. “Well, I like reading, playing video games, and sometimes writing,” he said, taking another bite of his pancakes. “I’m studying journalism in college, so I do a lot of writing.”

Sophie’s eyes widened with interest. “Journalism? What’s that?”

“It’s about telling stories and reporting on things that happen in the world,” Tim explained, trying to make it simple. “Like writing news articles or making videos about important events.”

Sophie scrunched up her nose in thought as she pondered what Tim had said. “Important things, huh? Like when Tykables changed how their unicorn diaper looks?”

Tim chuckled, finding her enthusiasm for such a seemingly small change endearing. “Yeah, I guess that’s important in its own way. Do you wear Tykables?” he asked, his curiosity getting the better of him.

Sophie nodded, grinning. “Sometimes! They’re really cute. But I wear pull-ups during the day too, especially when I’m running around and playing a lot. Daddy says it’s good to have both options.”

Tim smiled, appreciating Sophie’s openness. “That makes sense. It’s nice to have choices.”

“Do you always wear diapers, Timmy?” Sophie asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.

Tim hesitated, feeling a bit shy about discussing it. “Well, I decided to wear them for my stay here. It helps me feel more like a little and less like a big kid who has to worry about everything.”

Sophie giggled, giving him an understanding look. “I get it. Sometimes it’s nice to just be taken care of and not worry about making it to the potty.”

Miss Emma returned to check on them, carrying a sippy cup of milk for Tim and a regular cup for Sophie. She placed the sippy cup in front of Tim, making him blush again. “Here you go, Timmy. I thought you might like some milk with your pancakes.”

“Thanks, Miss Emma,” Tim said, accepting the sippy cup. He took a sip, feeling oddly comforted.

Sophie grinned at him, while grabbing her cup with both hands. “Don’t worry, Tim. You’ll get used to it.”

Tim nodded, feeling grateful for Sophie’s kindness. “Yeah, I guess I will.”

hii blue! I'm in a bit of an edmund phase rn so I've just been reading through his entire tag the past few days ahah. I noticed that everything you've written for him so far (unless I missed it) has been angsty & typically with the reader not really liking him. I'm sure you get a lot more ideas and scenarios with this trope, but have you ever thought about writing something fluffy with him? the fluffiest we've gotten is I think the one where they spend time together in the gardens, but even in that the reader still feels unsafe and is a bit snippy towards him. I remember you said before that he has a boyish and fun side to him, but I don't think we've fully explored that yet. it would be nice to delve into it if you're willing!

i want to write that so badly!!!! i have these visions of him and Y/N in the garden playing croquet and him having his head in readers lap, while getting read to :(<3 I really want to write these, but i'm always "careful" writing soft because, in my mind, they won't do as well ... but i think that they do? i don't know

“okay well..dani-unnie invited me to have a sleepover with her or a hangout during our talk , and after we exchanged numbers-“

“wait wait wait , danielle after the first time talking to you,at the volleyball game,invited you to HER house , and gave you her number..????”

minji said then haerin spoke up

“really? that’s so cool,maybe danielle has liked you for longer than you thought!”

i started to think about what haerin said but shook my head getting back to the topic

“guys let me finish! as i was saying,we exchanged numbers , then we were texting and she was making sure i was coming over ,so i had arrived at her place with a bag of some stuff-“

“okay can we get to the start of everything..?”

“escalated from you saying that,how exactly..?”

“jesus you two are nosey , but she asked if i was calling her hot i got defensive but i didn’t say no,she said she can..uh..show me how hot she can be..”

i mumbled the last part a bit but they both just exclaimed ‘what’ really loud in shock

and suddenly a certain someone walked out from my room

danielle just giggled and continued

they start to leave but danielle stops them

“im not sure about you haerin but minji , if you’d want you can stay and watch us , i have another friend who would also wanna stay so you wouldn’t be alone ..”

i looked at her shocked that she was actually bringing this up,we did talk about it but it’s embarrassing

“i mean..if you guys wanna..”

haerin was thinking about it but got a call from someone and had to go , she seemed disappointed,minji on the other hand when haerin left immediately nodded her head

“great! i’ll call hanni over and you two cuties can watch,and if you even want four people i can also call shuhua over ,and i’m sure y/n could call minnie over!”

“mhm..i can do that..”

“oh and when everyone gets here , feel free to tell the others that everyone’s welcome to take photos and record as much as they please !”

gojo is not comical, fun, or silly and i am tired of seeing him portrayed that way!

he is not lighthearted! he's a hateful motherfucker! most of his witty banter (thinking of battles especially the first ever one with jogo) is just him humiliating others for his joy. he tries to be light and funny so he's more likable which means people are more likely to listen and agree with him. other people just happen to think it's funny. he uses that as an outlet for his OWN humiliation brought by everyone in the jjk society not being able to comprehend his power. everyone always undermines him because his strength is so impossible nobody can believe it. and he hates it!! we seriously can't believe that banger line from shibuya was heat of the moment huh? that bar was locked UP for too long-

and before i am jumped at 9 am, i don't believe gojo is some master manipulator evil shithead LMFAO i'm just pointing out that a lot of people should realize that his 'jokes' aren't really jokes, and he can get away with it because it actually is kind of true (people being super weak next to him) and nobody is gonna tell the rapture of the jjk society to stop being rude cmon now. and im not saying he's mean all the time, yes he's funny and doesn't mean like 1/3 of the hornswoggle he says. for the other 2/3 his banter is him spittin shit and getting away with it (plus the humiliation of it tongue out winking emoji)

༻`` 1 June — Saturday 56/60

🧡 academia >> / (planning to study a lot of Russian as I've finished this year of school now)

🧡 physical health >> I walked a good bit today, there was a kind of fun day at a park and so I went there with a friend and it was SO MUCH FUN!

🧡 self care >> Sleeping in that little bit extra this morning

I went with K today on a single ride 6 or 7 times and it was amazing! So so much fun, we were screaming our heads off (it the one in the middle picture) and enjoying the music and the slightly sick feeling of being spun round at 100mph. It also felt really freeing to just scream and really funny whenever I'd say 'wee' in a childish tone whenever we'd start spinning in the seats again. We went to her house afterwards, had food, watched Emperor's New Groove (1 & 2) and had way too much fun texting out friend from each other's phones. It was an amazing start into summer.

More updates about this last week:

My exams went quite well I think. There is a couple I might have to retake next year but we'll see whenever I get the grades (I'm praying to God they're all A's or at least high B's). I'm quite happy with how they went tho and mostly proud of the revision I've done for them (I have really died down the revision in the last week and was so tired—physically and mentally— of it all)

I've been falling into some depression-related habits on this past week, sleeping in way too late and constantly, not taking care of myself, being really tired in the evenings and just wasting away the afternoons on my phone & isolating. I am already better and I know I'm working to keep being better. I'm really proud of myself for how quickly I'm bouncing back from that

I wrote some more in my journal recently and started writing out some goals for this year's summer! I would like to write at least some of them out on a post here soon and properly reflect on the list.

My parents had a conversation with my the other day about how I'm allowed to get a part-time summer job this year! I'm really excited, it would be good for me in many ways plus it'll keep me slightly more busy in these next 3 months which is good

I also got my driving licence!! Woo!!

I'm talking with my friends more often and really bonding with them too. We're getting a lot more comfortable around each other too (and the friendly flirting sessions we sometimes have are just so fun XD). We are going to make a good few plans for meeting up over the summer.

After the last exam I talked to another friend, A, while waiting for our buses and I forget how much I love having them as a friend. It was really nice to hear more about them and how she's been doing and her plans for the summer. I'm hoping to meet them sometime next week after their Birthday.

This might be it for now.. If I can remember anything else major that's happened I'll make another post to add to this.

Today I'm thinking about Dororo again. Or rather, Zeroro. I had the thought, what if he never met Koyuki and became Dororo?

My first thought was that, obviously the invasion would get done by now! But then I thought a little more and, no, that's not right.

Then, I was thinking, he wouldn't act without orders being given to him! But that's not right either, because we see him rush into battle in the movie 4 ova. (can you tell it's my favorite?)

His actions seem very.. calculated, to me. It wasn't reckless, when he rushed in. It was the most logical course of action. He's a soldier, people are in danger, he should help eradicate the threat. Then, he immediately stands down when Garuru gives him orders to be elsewhere.

So, I'm sort of conflicted. When an order is given to him, that seems to be his first priority. But, Keroro isn't really one to be giving orders too often. An invasion is a bit too big of a thing for Zeroro to just go off and do it himself.

Surely, he would get tired of just sitting around all the time, but what else is there to do, in this situation?

It's easy to fall in the trap of thinking of Zeroro as this cold, killing machine, like we saw in 312a. That Zeroro was sort of a personification of how he looks back on himself. His love for the Keron army, and all of the bad habits he unlearned, condensed into one being. When we look back on the actual Zeroro, he was still the same kind and caring being we know him as when he's Dororo. He acts a little differently, he doesn't speak so archaically... But he's still him.

It makes me wonder, was there ever a possible outcome where he didn't fall in love with Earth?

the clans use salt for healing and cooking if i remember correctly. im only saying this because would someone ever name their kid "saltkit"

Yes! Saltkit is a valid prefix in BB, but only after moving to the Lake.

Before then, they make a sort-of-salt out of burning dandelion root. They consider this material a kind of soot, fine ashes produced by burning something. The rough translation of this spice is "soot-salty-taste."

Salty (taste) = Byyle (Comes from blood-taste)

Soot (ashes produced by finely burning something) = Keybo (Used alone in artsy contexts, usually describes bistre, a pigment made from soot and water.)

Plant Salt (of coltsfoot or dandelion) = Keybyy

To specify if it comes from Dandelion or Coltsfoot, you'd say Keybyy Raerra or Keybyy Hakprru. There aren't two dedicated words for the difference; these are both considered "types of dandelions" by Clan cats.

Dandelion = Awpo Any flowering ground plant with fluffy yellow petals.

This is why they didn't previously have a word for salt itself! They would only ever encounter raw salt as an animal lick, which they'd call Byylebon. Salty-useful-rock. Because it was associated with humans, they wouldn't steal them or interact with them much.

Rraash is a Townmew loanword, a word they adopted for raw, powdered salt during their time trading with BloodClan. At the Lake, they now collect raw sea salt during "Salt Patrols," which are beach trips where a big collection of apprentices are brought to the ocean to learn how to collect and process salt.

So, depending on how the parents would like to name their child, those translations could be;

Byylemew = Saltykit The taste of salt. Could refer to the flavor of blood, the taste of the ocean, or the spice made from burned dandelion roots. Has a very food-y connotation, probably named by gourmands.

Keybyymew = Saltkit, Spicekit, Seasoningkit, Rubkit This is a very ThunderClan sort of name. They traditionally used a lot of keybyy in their recipes, as it's very important for a good marinade and making ham. Though, it wouldn't be too surprising to see it used in WindClan too.

Rraashmew = Saltkit, Brinekit Raw salt. Made from boiling ocean water during large expeditions to the sea called a "Salt Patrol." Used as a medicine AND as a spice, important in controlling parasite infestations, fighting infection, and preserving food. Could just be referring to an off-white colored pelt, food, or even strength in battle for its association with treating wounds.
