people on tiktok well on all social media sites actually will loudly critique the fact some people (especially those who only watched the movies) “didn’t get the point of the hunger games” and then turn around and say gale is the worst person in the universe and treat him like he’s a monster, and that all these traits are innate characteristics completely isolated from the circumstances in which he lived and the people around him. like girlie i think maybe YOU didn’t get the point here either.
#obviously this isn’t to say you need to or were “supposed to” like gale#there are a lot of good reasons to criticize him. esp wrt his sense of entitlement to katniss.#but he’s not supposed to be a Villain™️#like he’s a poor traumatized (brown coded) boy whose very valid anger was used to groom him into a perfect soldier.#kind of almost like it’s a critique on the militarization of young boys. esp those who are underprivileged.#which doesn’t excuse his actions & it doesn’t mean you have to like him#but it’s enraging when people act like he is a heartless monster who is unredeemable or whatever. like. oh that’s not….#bonus points if they babygirlify cato and clove (and marvel and glimmer) and cry about how they’re just kids#+ “they were only the way they are bc of the capitol 🥺”.#like yes it’s a big point that they were kids groomed to be child soldiers because the capitol pressured and “rewarded” career districts#to churn out child soldiers and whatnot. but that. ok.#truly just how do you hold the belief that to an extent excuses them or at least makes them sympathetic—#—but then not extend that empathy to gale. side eye.#esp bc a lot of the stuff is taking potshots at gale to uplift peeta/everlark.#like. uh! okay!#obligatory disclaimer i don’t actually like gale. however i am at my limit on weird and bad and inconsistent takes on him.#yeah he sucks. almost like that’s because he was horrifically oppressed by the captiol + then was groomed to be the ideal soldier by coin.#crazy how that’s the point.#and AGAIN. doesn’t EXCUSE what he does. but it’s important to acknowledge bc it v much contextualizes who and what he is and does.#the hunger games#gale hawthorne#i don’t think i need to tag this in the anti tag but lmk

Well now that RvB:0 is over, time to share some thoughts;
This was originally posted on Twitter so it might be a bit...meandering? Just because of how it was originally formatted.
Overall, I think I'd give the season a solid C+
It wasn't a bad season, but there were a lot of little things that added up over time that I feel like could've been done a little bit better. The main two were the pacing and the animations.
Having a season that was mostly mocap was really cool! I know this is total blasphemy, since I'm an RvB fan, but regular machinima is kind of boring to me bc you can only do so much with it. On the flipside, it takes a lot of skill to nail down characterization with it alone. Mocap and keyed animation create the opportunity to show characterization through body language and the like, which is why I like it more (I'm a simple bitch, I acknowledge this.) That being said, the way both these forms of animation were utilized in Zero were kinda overdone.
Let's talk about exaggerated movement in animation as if it's a dial for a minute. 1 is characters standing still and talking with barely any movement. 10 is movement being HEAVILY exaggerated (example: https://youtube.com/watch?v=J8XxuW-Orww) Knowing that, I'd put the IDLE ANIMATIONS (where the characters are standing around and talking) for Zero at a 7, when they could have probably been at a 4 or 5. The only reason I'm criticizing this at all is that this was the case for pretty much every scene like this.
Now, obviously the Zero team had a LOT working against them. We're in a pandemic. Most of them were probably working from home during production. And said production ended WHILE THE SEASON WAS BEING RELEASED (which is a way RT has repeatedly shot this show in the foot across multiple seasons, but that's another conversation entirely.) RvB isn't exactly known for it's stellar animation like RWBY and Gen:Lock. It's a machinima. It started out as  some dudes fucking around on an XBox. That being said, when we compare Zero's animation to S9, the difference becomes very apparent. Now obviously these were two different teams, but I think S9's animations hold up far better than Zero's will in the long run, simply bc they seemed to focus more on realistic movement than trying to make their animations look cool. S9 and later seasons that use mocap/keyframed animation still look really cool! They're clunky in some parts, sure, but it's excusable. Zero's animations are admittedly less clunky, but they trade that out for being overdone in some parts, and are at times difficult to follow.
Overall, I hope the team grows and learns how to find a happy medium between what S9 and later seasons had going for them, and the animation they did for Zero. Making animations that look cool only get you so far, and overdoing them can cancel out all the work put into them.
[Insert comment about me hoping I’m articulating well bc I have a headache bc I drank like one cup of water total yesterday bc I have no sense of self-preservation. Apparently.] :’D
This is already super long, but a quick note about the pacing is that I'm sure it'll hold up well once the season is condensed in DVD format. But as individual episodes, it tends to go a bit fast. If we see this same cast and crew again for the next season I hope they find a way to slow things down just a tad. I think some of the pacing issues come from the fact that they had to cut some things from the story. Which is why I'd like to reiterate the point about production wrapping up while the season is airing. Idk WHY it's a thing with RvB. Maybe they do it for other shows too. But it's a bad practice and it leads to similar issues like the aforementioned, and crunch. I'd be more than willing to wait longer for a season that doesn't finish production while airing if it means better pacing, writing, and animation. Not to say that the writing was terrible, the story was actually very cool, but it DOES go hand-in-hand with pacing. And when you're cramming exposition into each episode...it becomes a problem.
I'd like next season to have a story that's tightened up, that doesn't get anything cut out of it. Because I think, if given the time, the current team could make something really amazing.
I feel like I'm rambling/failing to get points across at this point (headache.) So I'll wrap up with some things I'd like to see from this team if they come back for another season;
More time for idle character interactions (to build on characterization and relationships)
Slightly slower pacing
Toned down idle animations (where appropriate)
And in a perfect world, they'd get to wrap up production before the season starts airing.
All in all, I'd like to see this team make another season! I think they did well with the odds stacked against them. RvB:0 is DEFINITELY one for the books in terms of technical execution and the amount of hype the production team had for it! But it could also use a lot of work. I'm sure the team learned a lot this season, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with if they work on the next!
Also, in terms of how much fun the season was to watch? Totally an A-! It was SUPER fun to sit through! (And that's arguably the most important thing imo) The C+ is mostly for how the technical side of things was handled.
(I could continue on here and start nitpicking things that I wish they had done differently [like giving us a chance to see how Wash reacts to the implant/showing us why he changed his mind about having something jammed in his head,] but that’ll make this post even longer, and I need to go get groceries so...:’D)
TL;DR; Season was fun to watch, but the animations were overdone and the pacing was way too fast, overall leaving a lot to be desired in the final product. But I still hope the team gets a chance to make another season, because I think they probably learned a lot during Zero

MHA Song Analysis - You Say Run (lyrical vers.)
i told myself i wouldn't do this but here we are
SO i don't think this song is like sung from midoriya’s pov, but is sung to him by everyone who cares about him (all might, inko, the izucrew, class 1-a in general, etc)
because izuku’s whole Issue is that he has no self-preservation. like i know we make jokes abt this but dude is seriously near actively suicidal with how negligent he is to his own health and safety. he’s so determined to be a hero that he doesn't care what it costs him -- as long as he's the one paying the price, that is (biggest example of this is his arms and how he’s literally punched the use out of them at 15)
he also hates bringing up his problems and how he feels. we see this implicitly w the fact that he’s never confronted bakugou abt their past and explicitly w the scene where he has a breakdown and iida and todoroki calm him down, but he says “heroes don't cry” and hides his face, etc
so i think this song is his loved ones coming together to be there for him and get it thro his thick skull that he doesn't need to save the world before he can save himself and i'm so fuckign emo so let's just jump into it
here’s the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Us82yZTkO6g&feature=youtu.be
i referenced a comment on the youtube video for the lyrics hhh. it should be near the top but if not uhh good luck trying to double-check me sorry i couldn't provide a more concrete source this time djkfjkf
ok let's go
“you're not alone, there’s no doubt your gift isn’t futile to be” okay so let’s get to the point first of all; all of midoriya’s loved ones Need him to know that he is not alone. midoriya probably has a mindset where he’s used to thinking he’s alone, due to how he grew up friendless and antagonized, and i have no doubt whatsoever that he hasn’t actually completely shrugged this mindset off. so his loved ones need him to know that he’s not alone anymore and they are here for him dammit so he doesn’t need to shoulder everything by himself his “gift” is not one for all but his kindness and love for the world. it “isn’t futile to be” because midoriya is obviously going to become a hero and thus, put those traits into good use. he’s going to be an inspiration for more than his physical strength; his most powerful aspects are his gentleness and compassion
“if we’ll be united, we’re stronger together” this kinda goes back to the “you're not alone” line. his loved ones have assured him that he’ll be a great hero on his own with the “no doubt your gift isn’t futile to be” line, but they’re letting him know that he can be “stronger” w his loved ones by his side; he doesn’t need to lone-wolf it. you're stronger when you're fighting alongside your loved ones while simultaneously fighting for them, right? so they're basically introducing that concept to our green bean here
“we always have the high hope” “high hope” = high ground if u will. they have the advantage in any battle if they have midoriya’s brand of determination and spirit. also midoriya does not let go of hope like at all. even after that awful as hell childhood, he still clung to hope and he still dared to dream and that’s really important. this is his loved ones acknowledging that, but probably inko in particular bc she’s been there in his life for every single hardship
“not all for one but one for all” this is definitely a toshinori-exclusive line. it's not subtle at all that this line is abt the quirk and the villain, but what i think it’s saying exactly is that the burden that one for all brings its users does not need to be solely on midoriya’s shoulders alone (all for one); he has loved ones and allies and coworkers and teachers that are there for him and will guide him and support him, thus sharing the burden (one for all). midoriya doesn’t need to save the world himself
“don't worry ‘bout a thing” the classic comfort token(tm). no but i feel like this is his loved ones kinda saying “don't worry [about things you can't control because you're only human].” bc obviously midoriya is human and also himself so he’s going to worry, but they're here soothing his anxiety and irrational fears, as they have already addressed his more rational fears in earlier lyrics
“we’ll reach out to you/even if it’s a harder way/it’s plain to see the reason why/oh that’s all because of the mighty heart” midoriya’s loved ones are promising him here that they are always going to do their best to support and love him adequately. they know he has a habit of hiding his feelings and other problems and that that could lead to some issues, hence the “even if it’s a harder way”, but they're going to keep loving him anyway why? well, “it’s plain to see the reason why oh that’s all because of the mighty heart.” midoriya’s heart and soul are so pure and so good and just completely full of kind intentions. all midoriya has ever wanted to do was, to quote his own words, “become a hero and save people with a smile.” he loves so fiercely and so quickly and it has changed all of the lives of everyone he’s met, particularly his loved ones. like toshinori would be dead w/o midoriya, as would probably iida and todoroki (stain arc and quirk complications each). they love midoriya and all that he has done for them, and so it is more than worth it to be there for him in return
“remember that it’s just natural that we’ll be there if you need help” they are saying that, as midoriya’s loved ones, as people who love him, it’s only natural that they care for him and want to see him happy, just like he does them. they're kinda using any excuses he could come up about “not deserving their support” against him. they're letting him know they're there for him and again, most importantly, that he does not have to deal with ofa and all of his other burdens alone
“far across the distance/rest assured that our faith won’t die” this distance is both physical and emotional. inko in particular is distanced physically, now that izuku is living at the dorms, but she is still going to be there for him. emotionally, the distance is the blocks midoriya puts up to keep from acknowledging his seriously negative feelings, at least from others. however, like they say in the song, “rest assured that our faith won’t die”; they’re not going to give up, bc midoriya wouldn’t give up. they believe in him and love him sm
“you know we apt to sacrifice ourselves/whatever they may say” his friends/toshinori in particular are saying this line. hero work is a dangerous job, obviously, and they all signed themselves up to be public servants in such a dangerous field, meaning its kinda their job to sacrifice themselves if needed. however, this is again letting midoriya know he’s not alone in this risk, as “we apt to sacrifice ourselves” the “whatever they may say” bit is abt media and the public. they will sing midoriya’s praises and some may criticize him, but they're letting him know that they don't know him like they do. they don't love him like they do. but midoriya’s friends and toshinori will bear the burden of media together as they are all heroes. they wont leave him alone in any of this
chorus once more (”it’s plain...won’t die”)
anyway i’m crying midoriya loves so much and he is loved so much in return thank you and goodnight

star wars the last jedi spoilers ahead
I went to see the film as part of a work function tonight (ty Jesus) and I need to get some stuff out of my system bc I can’t discuss with my housemate until she sees it tomorrow, so --
No real structure, just streaming it out.
The most important thing this film showed me was that Leia learned how to use the Force. It was beautiful. The universe that opened up retrospectively when she pulled herself out of the space wreckage to safety (let’s ignore the plausibility of surviving that for a second). I thought of Luke and Leia, fresh off their victory over Palpatine, bonding in the quiet safety of Leia’s senatorial apartments, Luke patiently talking his sister through the ideas of the Force; to quiet, listen and trust her feelings. Imagining her excitement and the joy on his face when she makes that datapad tremble on her desk, the first time she actively reaches out and senses him through the Force, the way they would laugh together the first time they test it on Han and freak him out. Imagining the euphoria of sharing something that’s just between them.
That moment Leia saved herself using the Force shone a beacon on a beautiful past of potential and I think that sustained me through the whole movie.
Thank god.
Because I have not facepalmed so hard nor so often since I had to watch Anakin and Padme “fall in love”.
I am sympathetic to the fact this film had to find its feet in the unexpected wake of Carrie’s death, but WHY DOES THIS FRANCHISE HAVE A 1/3 SUCCESS RATE IN WRITING BELIEVABLE ROMANCE???
On one hand, it’s a good day for you if you’re a Reylo shipper. On the other hand, it was like watching 6/10 fanfiction play out to a rushed pace. Finn and Rose were cute together but even their dynamic felt too fast. The flirtation between Poe and the Vice Admiral. Why so many close-ups??? Also, the Han/Luke shipper in me was mad that Luke didn’t already know Han was dead, but sure he closed himself off to the Force, so he was behind on the news.
the author acknowledges her impressions were exacerbated being forced to sit three rows from the screen
As this film played out, it sounded like it was written straddling the fourth wall: in some ways too aware of its meta wish list and headcanons from the audience, fandom in-jokes, and performing as an echo of the Empire Strikes Back (once was enough with TFA, but again??? seriously?) and Return of the Jedi mashed together “with a twist”.
I waited two years for this film. I read and discussed so much about its potential with so many fans, I think it was bound to fall short of my expectations.
I was really heartbroken when I found myself wishing the movie would just end. It felt way too long. I had waited two years to see Poe, Finn and Rey (okay and Kylo the human disaster) again.
Everything was so rushed. Characters were introduced in a rush. The editing felt rushed. In critical moments where you needed to linger, let the gravity of dialogue or exchange sink in, process who we had just met and why we should care about them, we were instead thrust onto more characters, more spectacle, it was all spilling out faster than Vice Admiral engaging light speed through an entire First Order fleet. Bringing Benicio del Toro in like a passing ship in the night, a darker, shallower tribute to Han Solo’s archetype (don’t bring him back and redeem him, please, you failed to make me care about him, it’s tired and I cbf sitting through that). Bringing back my beautiful Phasmum for two minutes of nothing just to kill her properly. Wtf, film, wtf.
I found myself really hoping Rey would join Kylo, just for something different to  untangle in the third film. Let Rey realise too soon what a stupid choice she’s made, but also wrangle with that commitment she’s made, following that dumb instinct that made her seek and have faith in Kylo. I don’t believe the film is done with those two yet.
“I can feel the conflict in you--” Omg every other time a force user opened their mouth in this film, I just wished to end my hearing. This kind of writing flew thirty years ago, but not today, ad verbatim.
I was actually enjoying the moments Rey called him “Ben” and he didn’t flinch, when they were finally fighting back-to-back, and I was like, “Okay, this has potential, the penultimate light and dark come together, now rule together and muddle your way through your problematic commitment, please, that would make fair drama.”
I like that Rey’s parents were revealed to be nobody of worthy note in the “legacy” of the Star Wars universe. I like the message that the greatest hope of a warrior could come from humble beginnings.
I liked that we discovered what really happened with Ben and Luke, and what really sealed Ben’s decision to go dark side. I like that the story made Ben and Luke both share the blame for this. Luke got lost in the airs of his own legend, and Ben had many chances since then to turn back. It’s still shit Snoke clearly got to him young and was manipulating him from a young age; but that doesn’t excuse the shitty things he’s doing by today’s events. He’s a survivor of abuse and sadly, it’s warped his capacity to make rational decisions that take courage by the average person’s measure.
I liked the moment Yoda and and Luke were reunited. Yoda has a levity we often see in older people who have all the perspective, but no fucks left to give. Threaten to burn the foundations of your religion? The old codgers will always call your bullshit. These kind of people bring you back down to earth for #realtalk.
This film smacked of some of the problems I suffered in Justice League, it rarely let people connect as real people with all the awkwardness, tentativeness and vulnerability we often have. Everyone was charging ahead. Everyone was so sure of themselves, even when they were supposedly crying, heartbroken or scared. That moment when Rose’s unnamed sister dropped the bombs and clutched her amulet, and we lingered on her face in slow motion as she closed her eyes? One of the best moments.
War and resistance are fucking scary, exhausting and heartbreaking. This is why I maintain Rogue One is still one of the best films of the film franchise, because it was on the ground where the highest costs were being paid. In war, most people don’t have the means or luxury of fucking off to an isolated planet to nurse the agony of our failure. We have to stick around and muddle through, take actions that compromise our morals and break our hearts in the process, and it fucking sucks (read: Cassian Andor).
I like that everyone in the First Order looked stressed and unglamorous af in comparison to the Force Awakens. I cracked up the moment I saw the shadows under Hux’s eyes, leaned over to my boss and was like, “Yo, that’s my bro, he’s wearing our look.” And seriously, compare Kylo’s unmasking scene in TFA to TLJ. In TLA, they took serious care to unmask him as beautifully, coiffed and confidently as possible. When his mask comes off in TLJ, the camera is tight to his face, showing the blotched complexion of his exhaustion, nervous sweat, his pores and moles and scars, he’s raggedy ann. As Snoke throws in his face, killing his father split him down the middle and he’s never been more conflicted.
I really liked the showdown between Kylo and Luke. I like that Luke apologised for failing him, that Kylo is so far gone in his rage of Rey deserting him, of being alone at last, that Kylo was unmoved. I like how the film says goodbye to Luke, and that Leia lives on at the end.
Farewell, Space Princess. You will forever be loved.
I give it a 6.5/10. But you bet your ass I’m going to see it tomorrow again with the friends anyway, and finish Close the Circuit because now I have enough lore answered to make up my own version.
I look forward to sitting back with enough vantage to actually appreciate Poe Dameron’s beautiful face. Incidentally, this was v insightful for Poe’s character. I’ve given him too much credit as a level-headed commander. He’s way more willing to sacrifice lives than I expected. I understand that was his entire arc, but... the more you know.

some post-v thoughts
obv spoilers under the cut lots of words lol.. ended up more choi sibs-centric thn i had anticipated
i’m gnna be honest here overall the route made me suffer more bc of how damn expensive everything was lol.. i’m not the type of person that’s going to set alarms to wake up at ass o’clock to do a chatroom, nor am i the type that feels satisfied with any day less than 100% complete so i parted with quite a few hg this time around lol
that aside though ..  hm.
i’ve always really hated how fandom treats v like the only victim when he and rika’s relationship, even before his route came about, has been noted by fans as being unhealthy for both of the people involved and ig that’s where i want to start??
in the route itself, he admits that he fucked up which still doesn’t make what he did okay lol like.. his relationship with rika aside, leaving saeran behind has always bothered me. you never get any indication that he wanted to rescue him from mint eye, just that ‘oh shit! guess he’s indoctrinated into this cult now better keep it under wraps so seven doesn’t get hurt!!” like.. allowing saeran to just stay there wasn’t going to help him at all in any way later on; he didn’t attempt to fix the situation like with MC’s case he just sort of lets saeran exist within mint eye, deciding that it was enough to just keep his whereabouts unknown rather than attempting to do anything about the whole cult situation in the first place until MC enters the chatroom and then he decides that an innocent person can’t get involved as if saeran asked for any of this to happen to him ??
and yeah you can argue that ‘oh that’s why he’s been afk fr so long’ but more of what he’s doing seems more like prioritizing the rfa’s ignorance towards mint eye rather than actually dealing w/ the cult (like.. jumin easily would’ve lied for v and gotten rid of it before it got That Bad but .. yknow.. otoge writing,)
moving on
is it good that v recognizes his faults in the relationship and wants to change? absolutely but someone owning up for the terrible things they’ve done doesn’t automatically make things better, apologizing does not erase the fact that those things happened in the first place
i hated that seven never gets to know ray’s true identity in a “good” route where v is supposedly owning up to all the things he did wrong, all the lies he told the rfa, etc etc he never tells seven that ray is saeran.
go ahead and point out that seven figuring out unknown’s identity is a huge part of his route and therefore not necessarily something that belongs in v’s route, but given v’s heavy involvement with that particular situation, i think it would’ve been well-worth addressing in this route and it just feels so wrong that it was never actually touched upon???
bc again v had so much to do with saeran’s current status just like he had it within his power to help rika before she could create mint eye, he also just ?? didn’t help saeran and didn’t own up to knowing his identity in his own damn route when he sees seven beginning to question him??
like. ok the type of secrets v was keeping are the type that, even if they’re shocking and create hurt, only breed more bitterness the later they come to light and the fallout of these things being revealed is obviously something that he has to deal with and that’s okay!!!
as bad as it sounds, i feel like he doesn’t get what he deserves by not having to take responsibility for hiding ray’s identity from seven?? it’s not helping him, nor seven, to keep that piece of information a secret -- in essence, he’s still being allowed to lie and that was probably one of the things that really ..  left a bad taste in my mouth wrt his route
i mean there’s other things as well obviously hh like i already see fandom treating rika like shit and yeah, i agree, blinding v isn’t okay, creating a cult isn’t okay, forced indoctrination isn’t okay i understand that, but using her actions to excuse v’s actions is just really stupid imo??
they both should be held accountable for their own actions?? because their actions hurt others ?? there’s no “this person specifically should take all the blame” bc each of them have things they need to take responsibility for; rika blinding v does not change or make okay the fact that v left saeran to suffer under mint eye, lied to the rfa, etc etc and vice versa like that’s.. not how things work lol
and like.. it.. really doesn’t matter if rika’s actions are “worse” than v’s; like i said before their actions bring harm onto other people, saying that v is some kind of angel or w/e while simultaneously pretending like he didn’t inflict harm on rika as well has never sat well with me because it’s like people are disregarding the toxicity of their relationship on both sides. justifying hating rika by saying that v “deserved better” because of the mental state that he helped to foster is really unfair and idk just kind of sketchy??
and i’m not saying people can’t hate rika or that they can’t like v or w/e it just sucks to see character’s that’re actually pretty multifaceted being watered down to “the clingy ex that started a cult and her poor wittle ex boyfwiend who just wanted to help” bc it’s not that simple and it’s been said before but you can like and dislike characters while still acknowledging that they’re not 100% good or bad -- recognizing flaws is important and the polarized mentality that even the game itself promotes near the end of the route is a little Yoink hHFNDf,
anywa y, in conclusion the route itself was very ... idk it left me a little “hm” in several places and while there were some endearing things about it (jumin cosplaying, getting to invite weird guests, seven Confirmed Having Toned Arms) i felt like i really couldn’t .. get into it the same way i did with the others?? like it all felt a little too black and white as i stated before but
yeah
i can’t really say i was disappointed by it or anything because i wasn’t really sure exactly what i was expecting but it sure was an Experience and idk
i will nevr get the hg back but it’s ok
