men are garbage I’m sorry you were reminded today ☹️ potential distraction question - what are your ollie bearman thoughts?
omg i love him . he reminds me of the freshman i practically adopted my senior year who i miss dearly; we were Goblins together and without fail every party we’d make waluigi noises at each other for some reason LOL. occupies a very specific space in my mind of “little guy who is a foot taller than me” that my adopted freshie (well. now sophomore) also occupies, ykwim? which means i have these conflicting desires to both bake him cupcakes and shotgun beers w him . frat bro eve moment
also just insanely exciting for him to have done so well today, like cannot imagine the pressure w so little prep or warning to hop in a ferrari and race for longer than you’re used to and still pull it off. @mecachrome has been feeding me reasons to get attached for a bit and now i’m in it, i’m fully invested. also @crozierahegao said he gives keira knightley and that is gonna stick in my head for the rest of time

Media rec roundup
Things I have been enjoying lately and would encourage you to enjoy too:
Ongoing - Abbott Elementary! So cute, great fun, destress to this
Series - Self-Made: Madam C.J. Walker. Brilliant, so incredibly well done, inspirational
Movie (Netflix) - Scoop. Has Billie Piper and Gillian Anderson in the starring roles, not as exciting plot-wise because it was based on a true event. Billie looks amazing as always. Still not over how I didn't have anything interesting or nonawkward to say to her after (re)meeting her in February. My only comfort is that I'm positive she doesn't remember I exist. Anyway, if you aren't triggered by Epstein talk, watch this to support the iconic sci-fi girls.
BOOK - Y'all I read a real published work of fiction, and it was not rereading The Night Circus again. Naturally, it was @erinmorgenstern's The Starless Sea. GENIUS. Truly incredible work. I should probably read fiction by someone who is not Erin at some point, but I also might just read this a few more times to pick up on all the symbolism, foreshadowing, metaphors, etc. I missed.
Music - Obviously, TTPD by TSwift by also Eva Westphal, Julia Wolfe, Holly Humberstone, and Chappell Roan
Next up - I checked out a real live DVD from ye olde county library because it wasn't available anywhere on streaming, but I figured Lesbian Visibility Week should end in rewatching King Arthur, which was the Keira Knightley who converted me to sapphism all those years ago but it took a couple decades to realize what was going on there. Pick your favorite Gay Awakening Keira and enjoy this weekend.

Monica, you often write about your bisexual ass. Is that true? May I ask how you understood that? I'm going through a metamorphosis of myself right now, and you give the impression of a person who cares, who can share experience of findingself.
hello, anon!!!!
i can confirm i am very much bisexual and that i've dated both men and women, although my actual serious relationships count amounts to a shocking number of...... two. so you know. im hardly an expert ;;;;;;;;
realizing i was bisexual was a bit.. tortuous for me, but im gonna try my best to keep it short. im also gonna put it under a read more since it's personal stuff and people may not want to see it, so if you're still interested about my personal experience you can find it under the cut!!!!!
right, so. basically i had this best friend who i had known since elementary school and we were very close and very affectionate with each others: we would cuddle and hold hands and even exchange little pecks on the lips as an hello. no one worried about it when we were kids and we never really questioned its 'normalcy', but as we grew older (around 11/12 years old) our families made it clear that that was not 'appropriate behavior', because certain things were okay to do only with boys
then high school happened and that was.. pretty much the worst period of my life ;;;;;;; my friend and i went to the same school and were in the same class, but while she was well liked and had quite a few relationships with boys, i was bullied a lot, until one day they started to refer to me as 'that lesbian', as if it were an insult. my friend started to pull away from me a little, but she would also buy me a rose for valentine's day every year and say she missed me and that no boy made her happy as i did, so i was. a bit confused ;;;;;;;; i also felt jealous of her, but i wasn't sure if it's because i wanted to be her or if i wanted her to just be with me
and you know, i was already deep into fandom spaces at the time, but it was also very different back then: there wasn't a lot of genuine queer representation (brokeback mountain came out when i was 15 and the only other queer relationship depicted on screen at the time was tara and willow from buffy the vampire slayer), shitting on female characters was considered 'cool', and you could find essays on how liking yaoi and being interested in MLM was 'completely normal because those stories are made exclusively by straight women for other straight women' (which is why i now hate this mentality but that's a whole different matter)
ANYWAY. after high school, my friend and i grew apart, then i met a guy in university who i REALLY liked, who shared my same interests and gave me back a little of self-confidence, and we dated for almost two years. then one day my friend contacted me out of nowhere to catch up and when we met she confessed that she had always liked me, and when she kissed me i didn't stop her. so we got together and were in a relationship for three years before it ended (badly), but the important thing here is that i was in my 20s at that point, and queer representation and awareness had started to slowly get better, especially in fandom spaces where there wasn't just heterosexuality and homosexuality anymore, but people were starting to talk about bisexuality and asexuality and gender identities too, so reading about all of that kinda did the trick for me. it's when i looked back and realized that there was a reason why i was obsessed with both sailor moon and dragon ball as a kid, and that i did indeed have a crush on harrison ford as han solo in star wars and heath ledger in a knight's tale but also on keira knightley as elizabeth swann in pirates of the caribbean and katie mcgrath as morgana in merlin. it wasn't an either/or situation, i liked both and that was who i was
okay so this still ended up being long as hell ;;;;;;; and im not sure reading any of this was actually helpful, or if im even the best person to talk to about this, but i do wanna say something that i find to be true for my experience, which is: i feel like a lot of people think about bisexuality as a.. perfect balanced proportion, for lack of a better term, like it means that you're attracted to men and women (or men and non-binary people, or women and non-binary people, etc.) in equal measure, but that's not true. you can be attracted to idk.. 9 men and 1 women, or 6 women and 2 men and 2 non-binary people, and you're still very much bisexual in all cases!!!!!!
and the thing is.. i think labels in this case are important when it comes to give you a sense of self and a sense of community, but they don't have to limit you. i also think it's completely normal to maybe feel scared and confused when reading about sexual orientations and romantic orientations and gender identities, because there are some people who just connect with a definition and know who they are right away, but there are also people who don't know if something actually applies to them or not and that's okay!!!!!!! you can take all the time you need to figure it out!!!!!!!!
and if you're not sure what to identify with, but you do know that you're not straight, then it's perfectly fine to identify as just that: not straight (i know some people are not comfortable with the term 'queer' but i personally like it because you can use it as an umbrella term with that meaning, however there's nothing wrong in simply using 'not straight')
so, um, yeah ;;;;;; again, idk if this can be helpful in any way, because figuring out about being bisexual to me was just a mix of.. liking someone and trying to be in a relationship with them and then realizing you can like both men and women and thinking 'oh that's me!!', but everyone's experience is different. i don't think i have any advice to give you, except maybe 'be open to possibilities and talk to more people to hear about as many point of view as possible', but also you were right to say that i care and if you need someone to talk to, im here for you
hope you'll find the answer you're looking for, anon, and please know im holding your hand through this journey!!!!!!

Tumblr media
"It's like the great stories, Mr. Frodo, the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad has happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing this shadow, even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer. I know now folks in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding on to something. That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for." <- TURN THAT SHIT UP

Ranking Keira Knightley movies I've seen
Found this ranking I made of Keira Knightley movies in one of my old notebooks and had to share with the world this new year's eve (worth noting that some of them like Imitation Game and Anna Karenina weren't originally on the list, so I added them tonight)
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace - Keira Knightley is not in it enough. when she is, she's indistinguishable from Natalie Portman. 1/10
Princess of Thieves - baby Keira Knightley chops off all her hair and makes me bisexual. is a cutie with a reasonable amount of chemistry with the charming love interest. wins over grouchy dad by saving england and being good at archery. 8/10
King Arthur - Keira's acting is great but i don't think the writers knew what to do with her. i do love her costumes though. 5/10
Never Let Me Go - i barely remember anything about this movie. book was probably better. -1/10
Atonement - OMG!!! the PASSION. the YEARNING. this is the first tragic WWII romance i ever experienced and it DELIVERS. mostly though it's the green dress. the one she's wearing when she has sex with the faun from the narnia movies. that green dress belongs in Titanic or something illustrious. i don't think this movie's appreciated enough. i think it's time for a rewatch. 12/10
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms - little known (no one but my mom and i ever saw it) but holy SHIT is the world missing out. Keira puts on this high-pitched voice as the EVIL SUGAR PLUM FAIRY in a giant tuto. she is by far the best thing about the movie which unfortunately is lackluster in every way. 6/10 and all 6 are for her
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World - this movie should not be allowed to be so darn cute when it's about the literal apocalypse but it is and Keira is cute in it. she gets to go on a roadtrip with Steve Carrell in hopes of seeing her parents again before a giant meteor hits the earth and kills everyone. has a surprisingly touching ending. 8/10
Begin Again - i like anything where Keira sings. she's also a good role model for mark ruffalo's daughter in this. not my favorite John Carnye movie (that would be Sing Street which came out three years later) but definitely watchable. 7/10
Love Actually - why didn't they let Keira do anything in this movie? -2/10
Imitation Game - more tragic WWII stuff, though not as gutting as Atonement. Keira gets a turn playing the normal (albeit v. smart) person playing opposite Benedict Cumberbatch being weird. she does just as good a job as Martin Freeman while being way hotter. (also helps that the movie is better written than Sherlock.) her story isn't the tragic part and i'm not going to make jokes about Alan Turing who deserved much better than he got. 7/10
Anna Karenina - despite plalying the character whose name is the title, Keira was not in this enough. costumes were good but movie was approximately 1000 years long. still haven't forgiven my college boyfriend for making me watch it. -5/10
Pride & Prejudice - not my favorite Austen adaptation but you can't say Keira's not having the time of her life. she's a little giggly -- Elizabeth is more dry -- but she's definitely pretty and does a good job with the material given. Rosamund Pike may be the only person as good as her. 6/10
Bend It Like Beckham - the movie that launched a thousand lesbians. Keira gets put on the map as a tiny cute blond tomboyish lesbian soccer (ahem, *football*) player. she's a treat. 10/10
Pirates of the Caribbean - THE Keira Knightley movies. the dresses? check. the sword fighting? check. Pirate King with men falling at her feet? check, check, and check. best thing about the triology. got to kiss three dudes (sao feng doesn't count), gives a rousing third act speech, and gets to be the character who got the "keeps removing weapons from more and more illogical places on her person" trope. plus she sings! (a little.) disney did not deserve her and neither did any man in those movies. (orlando came closest though) 10 million/10

It’s not that I don’t like Pride and Prejudice (2005), I do. I just cannot view it as something akin to what I really think of when I hear the name Pride and Prejudice - which is the 1995 miniseries. (No, I don’t think about the book either; I only read it years later. In my defense, I was five when I first saw the miniseries, so it would have been a little hard to read the book then!)
It’s true, I’ve never liked Keira Knightley as an actress and that certainly colors my dissatisfaction. No matter what, there is something a bit too sly about her portrayal. A bit too modern. And so the movie’s main core never feels quite right to me. Darcy’s distance-as-shyness also never felt quite warm enough to me. I don’t know.
I’ve seen the movie half a dozen times or so, but I haven’t rewatched it in at least a decade. On the other hand, I’ve rewatched the miniseries at least a dozen times in the past five years alone. It’s my “eternal comfort watch”, the show that always manages to show me something new that I missed and provide new nuances. Might the film do the same if I watched it today, now that I’m also a more mature adult (and have slightly different aesthetic tastes than I had as a teenager)? Maybe! But the more I think of it, the more I find myself accepting that it’s just not the movie of my heart the way it is for others (especially on this site).
I see the beautiful gifsets and they might make smile and occasionally I’ll reblog one that notices a new, nice scene or moment, but the experience feels flat. I am watching a set piece without the heart and soul in place. It’s always pretty and in just the right way, but there is less empty space for things to... breathe. To exist without making an aesthetic, obvious statement. And to feel warm and alive.
This post doesn’t really have a point, I guess. I’m just a little melancholic that I can’t share in the love of the movie as much as everyone around me. But I’ll always have the miniseries!

Please do give us all your underrated romcom recs!!
For sure! Here are some I remember right now.
Ibiza--a Netflix movie, half "female friendship celebration", half romcom, the source of my URL. About an overworked uptight marketing girl (lmao...... real) who goes on business trip to Barcelona; her two best friends tag along and convince her to go to a club, where she has a chance encounter with celebrity DJ Leo West (Richard Madden at his best), after which she becomes convinced to follow him to his next show in Ibiza so they can hook up before her business meeting back in Barcelona. Unhinged, sexy, hilarious, everything people say Bridesmaids is, I love everyone in this movie and somehow none of the women are ever in true peril which is fabulous. Will leave you wanting to fall in love in a club/do something insane with your friends. Encapsulates the feelings of life changing travel better than anything.
Laggies--coming of age romantic comedy with some REEEEAL hits for MILLENNIAL MALLAISE, imo. Keira Knightley dips after freaking out when her boyfriend proposes; she has no life direction and ends up crashing with this teenage girl she just met. Teen girl's lawyer single dad (Sam Rockwell, sooooo sexy for some reason) quickly susses out that Keira is not a fellow teen but lets her stay anyway because she's got good vibes, his daughter clearly is desperate for a maternal figure of some sort, and he wants to bang Keira. Has a GREEEEAT impetuous makeout where he grabs her and she has to be like "I don't think you should fingerbang me in the street".
Down with Love--an early 2000s romcom satire starring Ewan MacGregor and Renee Zellweger at the height of their powers (fact: this movie is the sexiest I've ever found Ewan, as he's generally hit or miss for me). Honestly one of the smartest movies I've ever seen? Satirizes the Doris Day/Rock Hudson sex comedies of the 60s in this hyper-vibrant, gorgeous 1960s New York (the costumes and set design are insane). Puts Catcher Block, the slutty man reporter, in this Battle of the Sexes deal with Barbara Novak, the author of a huge hit book that basically tells women say down with love and prioritize their own pleasures (including sex), during which Barbara trashes Catcher specifically. The plot is iNSANE, I can't even really get into it. But there's also a genuine love story? If you like watching a slutty man get completely Stockholm Syndromed into falling for a crazy woman, this is it. Also, Sarah Paulson and David Hyde Pierce, literal gay icons, play the best friends who also fall in love.
Mrs. Winterbourne. Another fucking bonkers movie that has a bit of drama but also sexy uptight lusting-after-his-brother's-widow-but-not-really Brendan Fraser. This girl, who we're supposed to think is 18 but it's Ricki Lake and she's not, gets abandoned by her boyfriend after she gets pregnant. She ends up on a train with this nice couple, including a woman who's just as pregnant as she is. She admires the woman's wedding ring and the lady is like omg try it on because she's nice and also weird, and then THE TRAIN CRASHES. Our heroine wakes up and she's had her baby and the baby is fine but the nice couple is DEAD and she was wearing the ring and was pregnant so everyone thinks SHEEEE is Mrs. Winterborne. The dead guy's rich family never met his wife, so they welcome her and her baby with open arms and she kinda has to go with it? Anyway, Brendan is the dead guy's IDENTICAL TWIN (which means he was also the dead guy) and he immediately is like "this bitch is lying" but he's also falling for her against his own will??? Truly this movie is reverse Gorilla Twins.
Blast from the Past--another Brendan Fraser movie you kinda have to see to believe. Basically, Sissy Spacek and Christopher Walken are a couple in the early 60s and Walken is a scientist who believes the earth is going to devolve into a nuclear armageddon, so he's built this bunker for him and his pregnant wife underground. He thinks nuclear war has begun, and rushes underground with said wife, and their son is born and raised into this perfectly preserved 1962 world. He's Brendan. Anyway, 30+ years later, he surfaces into the real world as 90s era Brendan Fraser, which means, hot, and is completely naive and gets led around by jaded girl Alicia Silverstone, who falls in love with him and wants to take his virginity REAL BAD.
My Fake Boyfriend. A truly wacky little gay romcom about Keiynan Londsale creating this ideal fake dating profile and his best friend living vicariously through it, which becomes complicated when Keiynan meets a guy he actually wants to be with.
Fire Island. I don't know how underrated this is? Maybe at large. Anyway, it's just a really fun modern queer Pride and Prejudice retelling with multiple super good couples and a greeeat Mr. Darcy.
Bros--I know that Billy Eichner is annoying and went all headass about this... but tbh, though it's not without issues, this is a very fun romcom with a sweet love story at the core that doesn't fuck around with adult issues like questions re: monogamy
Imagine Me and You--again, I don't know how underrated this is, I feel like it's Thee Lesbian Romcom in some circles, and it's imperfect, but I dooo love it. It's one of the few movies that sells love at first sight. It's dated but it's fun. Also. Lena Headey.
Always Be My Maybe--has everything I want; attractive people having sex, drama, childhood friends to "forget my number" to lovers, Keanu Reeves playing hIMSELF. I feel like this got decent recognition, but nowhere near what it deserved. If you haven't seen it, Ali Wong and Randall Park are childhood friends, his mom dies and he becomes super depressed when they're teens, right after they lose their virginities to each other (or she loses it to him? at least one is a virgin and neither knows shit about sex) and then feelings are hurt immediately after and they come back into each other's orbit years later when she's a celerity chef and he's like, her HVAC repairman lol. They rekindle the friendship but there's mooore.
Love, Rosie--I have my quibbles with this one, but I also have a soft spot for it because... childhood friend drama. Sam Claflin and Lily Collins are best friends since literal toddlerhood, he's clearly got feelings for her in high school but she fucks a random on graduation night and gets pregnant and doesn't tell Sam because she doesn't want him to stay behind and help her as he has a scholarship to Harvard med. Sloooow burn with lots of tension and angst and some charming found family vibes.
Palm Springs--again, debatable on how underrated it is because it's very much critically acclaimed, but this movie is never in the conversations Set It Up is waved into and it's actually excellent, so... Cristin Millioti (SHOULD be a romcom queen by RIGHT) is at her sister's wedding and goes off to hook up with random stranger Andy Samberg because she's a messy bitch. After a series of wacky events, she gets sucked into a time loop that Andy has been in for literal years, where they're reliving the same day over and over. A lot of crazy shit happens, hijinks are had, and they fall into (complicated) love. A chaotic favorite.
P.S. I Love You--I feel like this dog has had its day to an extent, but it was actually dragged when it came out, and I remember this because I remember going "why?? It's great". The only Gerard Butler movie worth seeing besides 300, probably, this stars Hilary Swank as a young widow whose husband (said Butler) recently died of a long term illness and left her a letter per month, telling her what to do in the first year after his death. The supporting cast is GREAT (Kathy Bates made me weep), it's both very funny and incredibly sad and uplifting and raw, Hilary fucks Lucky Charms Jeffrey Dean Morgan (the Irish accents in this are Bad but it's much better than Leap Year) and the ending subverts expectations in a great way.
Brown Sugar--This is obviously a very popular movie (MY DIVOOOOORCE) but I don't think it's upheld to the same status as The Best Man franchise and I always see Love & Basketball recommended over it and that seems wrong. Taye Diggs and and Sanaa Lathan play childhood friends who now work in hiphop adjacent industries and struggle with both authenticity and how badly they wanna bone each other. THEN HE GETS ENGAGED. This one is messy, with cheating and hurt feelings and real adult issues, but it also has one of the funniest scenes committed to celluloid so.
Music and Lyrics--a Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore CLASSIC that actually reads like a romance novel onscreen. Hugh Grant is a washed up 80s pop star who wants to land a gig writing a bop for a pop princess, but he can only do the music, not the lyrics. He finds out unexpectedly that the weird chick watering his plants (Drew) is a good little lyricist and they begin working together, which leads to... love. Has a genuinely great grovel, I gotta say.
Just Like Heaven--cheesy, but the spot I have for it is soft (weird). Mark Ruffalo is a sad widower who's moved into a new apartment, only to find out that it is haunted by the GHOOOOST of the woman who was in his apartment beforehand (Reese Witherspoon) (there is a happy ending). It's of AN ERA.
Moonstruck--should not be underrated because Cher won an actual Oscar for it, but many people don't seem to talk about it today? Probably because of the hero, but OVERLOOK THAT. Cher is a widow who's just gotten engaged to this one dude who's Just Fine, and she wants to make sure his brother, one-handed Nicolas Cage, goes to the wedding. Except oops, she ends up fucking him right after they meet because one-handed Nic Cage has the juice, I guess? He gives this big speech, she says he's a wolf, it's great and verrrrrry Eyetalian American.
Faraway--I just saw this and it is PURE. GOLD. A middle-aged wife and mother loses her own mother and finds out her husband is having an emotional affair at the same time. So she goes to this little house in Croatia that her mother secretly owned, without telling ANYONE. Except oops, there is a squatter in the house, and it's a MAAAAN. Funny, sexy, a great example of two attractive middle-aged people who look like attractive middle-aged people falling in love. A real "find yourself at any age", uplifting movie that made my heart so warm.
Austenland--not super underrated, but fun. Keri Russell is a Jane Austen lunatic who goes to an Austen-themed resort and ends up encountering her own Darcy type.... But is he just playing a part??? Jennifer Coolidge is also in this. Being excellent.

Tagged by @banashee to post 10 of my favorite comfort movies and then tag 10 people, thanks! <3 just had a look at yours again after writing mine, we agree on LotR :D and adsfg I really need to watch Rocky Horror one of these days (I've seen it live before, but never the movie I think?? Oupsie xD fast ne Bildungslücke!)
1. Lord of the Rings (whole trilogy but if I have to choose one then Return of the King)
Tumblr media
Comfort movie: battles and darkness and Winning
A++
2. Racing Stripes
Tumblr media
(The film's in colour but it looks like this is the only gif I can find when I type in the title lmao)
One of a handful of taped movie me and my sister watched on repeat as a kid. Big nostalgia
3. Chestnut: Hero of Central Park
Tumblr media
I can't find a gif for that one at all, but it's another cute kids movie I used to watch A Lot and still sometimes return to for the comfort of nostalgia and safety
4. Monte Carlo
Tumblr media
I love all those silly switcharoo films, also the princess switch and its sequels etc, but Monte Carlo was the first one I watched and I still love to watch it for some mindless destress entertainment xD
Ummmm okay what else we got, I can't actually easily think of comfort!movies, I've got a whole bunch of comfort TV shows that come to mind, and movies I love but that aren't exactly /comfort/... *Goes through my Ao3 fandom list* no nothing clicks nothing clicks... Oh!
5. Pitch Perfect
Tumblr media
Just the first one tbh, I mean the others are fun too but this one's a comfort film for me!
6. murder, she said
Tumblr media
I adore Miss Marple, and this version of Miss Marple specifically! I've watched this one so many times :)
7. The Parent Trap
Tumblr media
It's cute. Okay? It's cute xD and I've probably watched this version at least as often as the German one I'll add next, probably bc this one was on TV more often? Idk, I couldn't actually say which one I like more
8. Charlie & Louise
Tumblr media
Again no gifs on here, but I adore this film! Also as you can maybe tell I'm actually running out of ideas and the Real comfort would be reading the book version of Das Doppelte Lottchen that both this and the parent trap are loosely based on xD my mom still has an old hardcover version and I've always adored that book, wished I had a twin whenever I read it as a kid!
9. Pride and Prejudice
Alright so th Colin Firth series version is better and the YouTube Lizzie's diaries or what it is is the best anyway but we're doing movies here and the Keira Knightley version Is definitely a comfort film for me so here goes
Tumblr media
Ok so there are Definitely pride and prejudice gifs somewhere on tumblr. It just won't show them in the search results for sommme reason. Seems to be because it has the word 'pride' in it, because whenever I type that it switches to the 'create your own gif' error image. @staff what's up with that? Latent homophobia again?

First wlw film I ever watched, I still remember watching it (on mute, with English subtitles, there's no German or English dub anyway) in my parents' living room when I was 12 or so, with the computer display turned away from everyone else, actually pretending to be on tumblr (the rule was we had to be at least in the same room for evening family time even if I was uninterested in whatever movie or sports the others were watching but I was allowed to be on tumblr) and trying not to show any reaction to the screen bc at the time I had no idea what my parents' stance regarding LGBT ppl was (parents, tell your kids when you're okay with them being gay, bc they might be and they won't just Know that you're okay with that!), and idk I've had friends tell me it's not their fav film and maybe it's mainly the nostalgia for me but I still absolutely adore this movie and have rewatched it many times
Tagging my mutuals, friends and collaborators <3 @toboldlynerd @lavendelhummel @squishmittenficfan @purlturtle @mimi-mindless @asstraightasau-turn @katieswain123 @verajasmijnart @artax-risen @bookgirlfan only if you want to do it of course! :) & pls lmk if you'd rather I didn't tag you in the future!
Edit: looking at old posts in my 'movie tag' and 'comfort movies' tags now like omg! Of course! Mr&Mrs Smith, Lara Croft, Mean Girls, Carol..... Also I only just thought of Miss Congeniality! Adsfghjkl I really have 0 memory sometimes!

Give us 3 things you like best about your top 3 blorbos plsnthx
I am going to stick to canon/not OC blorbos bc I feel like I talk too much about Lottie and everyone is annoyed by it
Tumblr media
Hector Barbossa - (POTC)
I would be remiss to not first include the OG blorbo. The introductory Old Man. The character that made me realize something was a little Funky™️ about my gender/sexuality.
Okay, first of all, I love how sincerely full of himself this man is. He really thought he could pull Keira Knightley despite being the scrunkliest pirate on earth and you know what - good for him!!! Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you’ll land among the stars etc etc. We love an unconventionally attractive person who knows they’re hot shit.
The fashion sense/vibes - the fucking ostrich feathers in the hat. The rings. The big ass necklace. The single fang earring. The swagger walk. The matching pet monkey. The bisexuality of it all. In all seriousness, I love the way his outfit and accessories serve to play up his overly dramatic theater kid energy but also are very interesting when you consider that he came from extremely humble beginnings. He’s showing off what he’s fought tooth and nail for and it is working for him, honey.
I really, genuinely love that we got glimpses - in the first movie - of the fact that the character we were seeing wasn’t always like this. Ten years of being a walking corpse had twisted him beyond the recognition of people who knew him (even Jack looks pretty damn horrified a few times despite having been on the receiving end of his bad behavior before) and YET. When he gets resurrected we find out… he still sucks lmao. Like, he’s not outright cruel and isn’t totally insane anymore but he’s still ultimately just a selfish, snarky, conniving geezer who’s only part of the “good guys” because it serves him and his interests. There wasn’t really a redemption arc (the 4th and 5th movies are not canon, fight me) and he, at best, just ended up being the weird unsavory uncle to the main cast. What a king.
Tumblr media
Sandor “The Hound” Clegane - ASOIAF/GoT
If you followed me prior to 2021 you know this was my prior HBIC (head blorbo in charge.) I still love him dearly and I hope he’s enjoying his retirement.
Look at him. No, really, look at him. Help??? Aside from me being a thirsty bitch, I have an extreme soft spot for characters who are visibly different and not in a purple eyes/horns/otherwise “sexy” way. Bodies are lived in and should look as such - and, this might be shocking to some people, disabled and/or disfigured people exist and they’re just as cool and hot and worthy as anyone else (I would know 😎.) I actually think the show should have gone a little harder on his burn scars but oh well. Sheesh, I need a cold shower.
His road trip arc with Arya. Need I say more? Y’all know I am WEAK for father/daughter dynamics and it’s even better when they’re both murderous lunatics. I love that she makes him softer but he doesn’t try to restrict or control her. I love that he tries to show that he cares in the only way that he knows how which is by teaching her how to rip/maim/tear/kill. Like, I know everyone enjoyed this part of the story because there were some genuinely hilarious moments and it was absurd, but I think under the surface we got some really fascinating insight into who he actually is and we were robbed of cranky but proud adoptive dad!Sandor in the show. I’ll be mad forever.
Fuck the city. Fuck the kingsguard. Fuck the king. We stan - I am obsessed with his realization that he doesn’t need or want to do anyone’s bidding anymore. I love that he turns heel but also has no idea who he is once he’s not Cersei’s dog - I love that he initially relies on his warped perception of people and the world to survive and slowly but surely begins to realize that maybe he doesn’t need to focus on revenge and violence all the time. I think it’s pretty obvious that GRRM is kind of going for a “a dog’s behavior will reflect its master’s” thing with him and if we ever get another book (lol) I am excited to see what becomes of him. Because he’s pretty clearly not actually dead.
Tumblr media
Karl Heisenberg - Resident Evil Village
Literally WHERE have you BEEN if you didn’t see this coming lol. The reigning champion. Completely unchallenged for over a year and a half. I am chewing on him as we speak like a squeaky toy.
Okay, like… obviously I’m very fond of his design. I love that he’s fat. I love that he’s got a super unkempt beard. I love that his hair is grey and that his clothes are dirty and he’s covered in scars. I love that he looks like someone who works (in contrast to Alcina, for example) and isn’t concerned with his appearance. This is such a small and shallow thing maybe but with the tendency for media to just make everyone Extremely Conventionally Attractive, I’m enamored by characters like this. Actually, this has been a thing across all three of these guys, hasn’t it? Hmm.
Completely love that he’s an actual genius with the apparent imagination of a little kid who just downed an entire box of sugary cereal. “What if I stuck this propellor engine onto a dude’s torso.” “Drill arms never hurt nobody.” “JET PACKS!!! I need jet packs!!!” He’s such a fucking nerd, too, like his deranged cackle followed by “…ending recording” on that tape you find is so cute and stupid. Karl what the hell is going on I love you so much. It makes me wonder who he would have or could have been if he hadn’t found himself kidnapped into an abusive cult - I’m getting strong “Bill Nye but make him chaotic neutral” vibes. Eccentric raccoon man. Peepaw is feral and I’m going to fuck him.
If you’ve ever read anything I’ve written with him in it, you know I like to play up the fact that it’s pretty clear (to me, at least) that the swagger and showmanship is a mask for… a lot of shit. And that is extremely compelling to me - even if it’s ultimately just my HC. The stutter, the “sorry about that” after Sturm keeps making noise, the diary entries and comments that seem to indicate he hates his body after what Miranda did to him, his pretty heartbreaking last words. I don’t really see the genuinely confident daddy dom that a lot of the fandom sees - and no hate if you do!!! For me, with the canon fact that he never leaves the factory, he reads to me like someone who is incredibly socially inept and inexperienced, someone who is struggling to accept what he is now, and, perhaps most importantly, someone who really believes he’s the hero of the story and is blind to the fact that his rage and pain have turned him into what he hates most. I feel like he says all these things that make him sound like he’s full of himself but then you see him and he’s… just some guy. Living in a dirty factory with clothes that should have been thrown out a long time ago. And he’s lost it, and he’s furious, and yeah on some level he’s a bit of a selfish jackass but I wonder how much of his posturing is him needing to hear himself say it because he doesn’t really believe it and is terrified he won’t be strong enough to free himself. I just love him, y’all. I’m not sure we’ll ever see him again (in RE canon) but I’m going to keep making content for him for a long time, I hope.

17. DO YOU USE DICTIONARIES OR THESAURUSES OFTEN WHEN WRITING?  :  you know. i sort’ve do. it’s not like i’m breaking them out at every opportunity but i am very forgetful and i will often google a word just to make sure i’m right in its meaning and sometimes a different word will be right on the tip of my tongue but i won’t be able to think of it, so i always comb through synonyms of the words i do remember to try and find it. i don’t like to go too crazy but i def do shop around a bit for the best sounding words when i’m trying to put my best foot forward in a reply.
39. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE BEST FACECLAIM DECISION YOU’VE EVER MADE?  :  oh. oh i have a few. and they are not all nox specific. alex fitzalan as edward cullen. oscar isaac as charlie swan. boyd holbrook as clint barton. gemma chan as jean grey. i was also THE trendsetter in the hp rpc in terms of the fcs people started using for certain chars so i give you - jessica barden as ginny weasley, chella man as neville longbottom, kedar williams stirling as dean thomas, sandra oh as sybill trelawney, keira knightley / winona ryder as bellatrix black, felix mallard as sirius black, even lorenzo zurzolo as peter pettigrew... like i have never missed. my hubris is showing. but i enjoy casting these guys SO much.
26. WHO WAS YOUR VERY FIRST MUSE? WOULD YOU CONSIDER WRITING THEM NOW?  :  absolutely NOT. i’ve been thinking on this for hours because i think i’ve forgotten the name of my actual first muse, but i’m pretty sure my second just had two buffy the vampire slayer names just MASHED together and she had a buffy fc too, back when like. well. on forum they weren’t really fcs and we didn’t really care about them as much as we do here, so i just used a random buffy actress to like. give the general vibe. i don’t remember a single thing about her other than these facts and i think she should stay gone. actually. i will admit it here, since it’s in the interest of this meme night event - one fun fact about me is that for my first full year of rp i used to only use people who appeared on buffy as fcs, which meant i had the entire main cast claimed but i ALSO had like. random extra #1, #2 and #3.

Thirteen Thursday Thoughts concerning romance/Valentine movies to watch
It is that time of year where everything is covered in reds and pinks and hearts! Everyone is thinking about love in some way or another, fondly or with an eye roll. I commonly watch movie with some friends or siblings this year while eating some chocolate and thought I'd leave Thirteen Thoughts in no particular order on movies to watch for the Valentine season. As always feel free to buy me a coffee and to leave your favorite romance/Valentine movie in the comments!
Starting off with Pride and Prejudice: whether it is the 2005 version with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen or the 1995 mini series with Colin Firth this is a classic watch.
An obvious companion to the one above is of course Sense and Sensibility: the 1995 movie with Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant is the one that I watch most but I have recently discovered the 2008 series with David Morrissey and thought that it was enjoyable in its own way.
Now those might be too dramatic for you and for those who might be in the mood for a bit of comedy, Much Ado About Nothing: the 1993 movie is the most easily accessed one and it stars Emma Thompson and Keanu Reeves in it, for those who truly want a rip roaring time I suggest finding through Youtube the version with David Tennant and Cathrine Tate in it.
Another more comedic romantic movie would be The Importance of Being Earnest: the 2002 movie staring Judi Dench, Reese Witherspoon, Rupert Everett, and Colin Firth.
We're going to go for a sharp turn and enter musical territory here for a moment with Phantom of the Opera: the 2004 movie with Gerard Butler, I don't know what to say about this other than that the opening scene is not something to miss so you want to have your drink and snacks and be comfy before you start this one.
Keeping with the musical theme but going for a lighter note there is Mamma Mia! This 2008 musical has quite the star studded cast and is a simple joy filled pleasure. It's also the third movie that I've listed that has Colin Firth in it, huh.
Leaving the musical theme but keeping the simple joy we have The Inheritance: the 1997 movie with Thomas Gibson. This movie also is wonderful for any horse loving peeps out there cause part of the conflict revolves around a horse competition. This is a bit of an underrated gem in my opinion and I would love for more people to see it and give it the love it deserves.
Another hidden and underrated gem is Dear Frankie: a 2004 movie with Emily Mortimer and Gerard Butler. This sweet film also introduced me to the song The Great White Horse by Buck Owens and it plays as a connecting moment between the characters.
Fantasy and Romance come together in The Princess Bride. If you haven't seen this movie than you are in for such a delight. It has everything from giants to sword-fights and of course a few kissy scenes for the romantic element.
Fantasy and Romance are also the main genres of Ladyhawke: this movie was made in 1985 and is one that so few people have heard of. Two lovers cursed to be forever apart but always together is such an interesting concept and pulled off very well. I will warn that the movie starts off slow but it has a good ending worth the effort in my opinion.
A bit of espionage with romance is found in the classic Scarlet Pimpernel movie of 1982 staring a young Ian McKellen alongside Jane Seymour and Anthony Andrews.
Returning to classic romance there is Our Mutual Friend the 1998 tv series. This series features multiple relations to follow as they intertwine around each other.
A final choice for this list must be made and it is a difficult choice. I am going to recommend the Jane Eyre series of 1983 staring Timothy Dalton. Now admittedly Timothy Dalton is a tad too handsome to fit the character of Mr. Rochester but this is the only adaptation of Jane Eyre that I've actually enjoyed watching despite the other adaptations having brilliant actors and actresses in their own right.

Rules below the cut....
▶ Hello! My name is Serenity, 27, she/her. This blog will be Low Activity, and it will be Sporadic, depending on my current hyperfixations and motivation. My timezone is PST (pacific standard time) and I'm from the USA. I have a Discord available upon request.
▶ Please know that I suffer from Cervical Radiculopathy and it may cause me to go days or weeks without being active on here. Be patient and understand that I can’t always be here. I will get to replies the best I can, but real life always takes priority. I do also struggle with ADHD, Depression & Anxiety, so sorry if I don’t reply right away or get sidetracked. It’s not personal.
▶ I am okay with speaking/messaging others OOC to chat or plot things, but please don’t rush me to reply right away. This goes for starters as well. It will result in a hard-block.
▶ I write in a Third Person POV, and prefer short to mid-length paragraphs. However, I am open to one-liners. There is no need to match my length in writing. I use icons, gifs, icon gifs or icon borders. Again, there is no need to match me with it. I’m pretty flexible.
▶ I do love shipping. My immediate OTPS for Romana are Romana x Doctor and Romana x Braxiatel, but I am also open to anything else as long as there is chemistry. I'm also interested in exploring other dynamics like friendships, family and etc.
▶ I'm of course open to interacting with OC'S. BRING THEM AT ME! I just ask that you have an easy-to-access bio page for them.
▶ No NSFW. No Magic Anons. No godmodding. Don't be a dick. Remember a real person is behind this blog and this is all fictional and for fun. The usual basic rp etiquette.
▶ Interactions with multiple of the same character or FC are welcome too.
▶ If I feel our characters can interact with each other, I usually follow back.

Atonement: what if it's too late?
I recall a time during my third year of university when I was tasked with writing an essay on either a movie or a book. I honestly don't recall all the options I had at that time, but for books, I had the choice between "Norwegian Wood" and "The Great Gatsby." As for movies, I could choose either "Meet Joe Black" or "Atonement." In the end, I decided to go with Meet Joe Black. However, I made sure to read all the books and watch all the movies. It's evident that they are all of high quality. Nevertheless, after viewing Atonement, I experienced an indescribable sense of profound sadness. I have never watched that movie again, perhaps because I still find it difficult to handle the emotions it evokes.
I often tell my husband my belief in the concept of second chances. I firmly believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to make amends for their past actions, and that it is never too late to rectify mistakes or pursue new endeavors, like I always tell myself that “Hey Huong, it’s never too late to learn French, let’s do it! Or It’s never too late to exercise at the gym!”.  But now, upon reflecting on the film Atonement, I have come to the realization that there are situations or individuals who reach a point of no return, where they are unable to rectify their actions, or make amends.
On her fourteenth birthday during the summer, young noble Briony Tallis (played by Saoirse Ronan), a young ambitious writer, gazes out of the window and catches sight of her sister Cecilia (portrayed by Keira Knightley). Cecilia, a recent graduate from Cambridge University, is walking out of the bath in the courtyard. Her clothes cling to her body, revealing their transparency, while she captures the attention of Robbie Turner (played by James McAvoy), son of a housekeeper who worked for the Tallis family for 20 years and also a friend of Cecillia who is studying at Cambridge University. At that time, Briony had a sense that Robbie had feelings for his sister. Overwhelmed by Cecillia's captivating presence, Robbie hastily penned a brief letter to apologize for what happened the other day, he wrote so many drafts but regrettably, he inadvertently placed the letter filled with flirtatious and seductive words, intending to send it to Tallis, instead of sending a more suitable one.
By a twist of fate, the letter found its way into Briony's hands. Upon reading its contents, she accused Robbie of being a pervert and promptly shared the information with her cousin Lola. Then that day, at the fateful party, Briony unintentionally stumbles upon Robbie and Cecilia in the library, precisely at the moment when they are confessing their feelings for one another. And during the dinner, Lola’s twin brothers go missing. While everyone else searches for them, Briony ventures into the woods alone to look for them. That is when she saw that Lola was sexually assaulted by an unidentified man. Briony made a direct accusation against Robbie, claiming that she witnessed him being the rapist, stating, "I saw him with my own eyes!" Lola, unable to see the rapist's face, also suspects Robbie as the perpetrator due to the impression and assumption that he is a pervert, based on the inappropriate letter he wrote to the Tallis family. After searching for Lola's twin brothers, Robbie made his way back to Tallis's house. However, as soon as he arrived, he found himself apprehended by the police, with Cecillia's broken gaze.
Subsequently, in an effort to atone for her errors involving her sister and Robbie, Briony chose to pursue a career as a nurse in the army, opting out of attending Cambridge. Briony also wrote a book called Atonement, where Cecilia and Robbie find happiness in their life together.
However, it is now too late. Ever since Briony falsely accused Robbie of a crime, she set in motion a series of events that would ultimately lead to the unraveling of her sister's life, as well as Robbie and Lola's. This downward spiral continued until everything fell apart at the bottom, with no possibility of returning to where it all began. As a prospective student, Robbie finds himself burdened with guilt that he did not commit, and he must come to terms with the fact that he has to become a soldier, which means being separated from his lover and abandoning his initial dreams. Cecillia's faith in her family waned, leading her to stop communication with her sister. Additionally, she made the decision to enlist in the army as a nurse. And Lola, sadly, made the decision to marry the person who had previously raped her.
When I watched this movie six years ago, I couldn't comprehend how a 14-year-old child could exhibit such cruelty, effortlessly lying and causing immense harm to the lives of the people she holds dear. I believe that Briony does not view Robbie as a pervert; rather, she harbors feelings of love for him. However, due to Robbie's affection for her sister, Briony experiences feelings of jealousy. She doesn't want them to be together, so she intends to sabotage their relationship by tarnishing Robbie's image in her sister's eyes. She believes that by doing so, she can prevent him from being with her sister.
For me, the portrayal of Briony is one of the captivating aspects of Atonement, owing to the intricate nature of her actions and thoughts. In my opinion, this character is impressed by the author's exploration of a fundamental human nature: the inherent capacity for wrongdoing or selfish action in every individual. Doesn't it sound strange? It is often said that humans are born with kindness and have an inherent capacity for goodness. Would you agree with this perspective? I did back then. I still do now but gradually, I am beginning to believe that some individuals are inherently evil and selfish, some people are just narcissists and abusive, whether they choose to reveal or suppress it. And Briony was lying without a blink of an eye to destroy Robie’s life. Who would suspect that a 14-year-old child, especially a nice and cute girl, could falsely accuse someone else? However, it appears that a child is capable of exhibiting such cruelty and evilness. Perhaps, it is due to their young age that they fail to comprehend the repercussions of the abhorrent actions resulting from their immaturity. And when they grow older, more mature, wiser, it becomes too late for them to heal or fix certain things.
It’s too late for Robie, Cecilia, Lola and even Briony. But how about us? Do we wait until it’s too late to fix things? I believe that none of us wants to be burdened by the word "regret" in our lives. However, there are times when we find ourselves unsure of how to rectify things, where to begin, how to set aside our ego, and how to effectively communicate our emotions in order to find solutions to our problems.
I personally don't want to live a life of regret. My spouse frequently says that one of my positive qualities is that I don't wait until it's too late to fix things; when I realize I've done something stupid, I attempt to rectify it right away. I send adorable photos of myself wearing a cat ear headband, sometimes with clothes and sometimes without haha. And surprisingly, these pictures have a magical effect on him, instantly improving his mood. I am just joking, cute photos don’t solve the problems, girls lol. I used to struggle with effectively communicating my feelings and emotions. While I still have room for improvement, I am gradually becoming more skilled in this area. Whenever something happens, I have a tendency to become silent because I immediately start crying as soon as I try to speak and it becomes challenging for me to articulate the reasons behind my emotional response. Hence, I just go silent. But gradually, I have come to realize that if I do not communicate my thoughts and feelings to my husband, he will not be able to comprehend what is happening within me. It is through speaking and expressing myself that he can truly understand me. Because as humans, we have a tendency to make assumptions. Similar to Lola in Atonement, she mistakenly believed that Robbie was the one who assaulted her due to her negative feelings towards him following the story she heard from Briony involving his flirtatious letter. And sadly, she eventually married the man who was truly responsible for the assault. For me and my husband, sometimes, I assume that my husband understands why I get upset, or that he understands Vietnamese culture as if he is Vietnamese lol. Similarly, he may assume that I understand why he acts in a monkey way. And then we became frustrated when it became apparent that each person didn't understand anything. It’s clearly that without communication, we would never be able to know or fully comprehend things.
But thank God, me and my husband are always able to communicate, and for that, we should be grateful.

Anon mentioned, Jared’s capes … are made by label “The Vampires Wife” by Suzie Cave, wife of Nick Cave. K quipped Suzie shouldn’t give up her “day job”.
Well, being a designer IS her day job and as usual, Jared has chosen a designer recognized for their avant garde creativity and is right on top of his game as usual for that choice. The ‘Falconetti' dress, created by Suzie Cave and the “The Vampires Wife” label was deemed the "dress of the decade" by Vogue. The Vampire's Wife has been described as a "cult favourite" label. Celebrities who have worn the brand include Catherine, Princess of Wales, Princess Beatrice, Princess Sofia, Duchess of Varmland, Kate Moss, Keira Knightley, Florence Welch, Maya Rudolph, Sienna Miller,, Kirsten Dunst,, Rachel Weisz, Margot Robbie, Jennifer Aniston, Jodie Comer and many others.
So K, you may not like his outfits but just sit down. You clearly know nothing about fashion or costuming. Also, you are missing the boat so very much about understanding JL’s creative choices and the practice of embracing new or unusual ideas. He has done this for years throughout his career and likely “won’t back down” now b/c you don’t like his look.
He is not quite out of business yet and just remember, when he is, so are you. What WILL you do with all that time in your day and night with no one to aim your hatred at? 😳😫
"CREATIVE CHOICES" 💀

lewishamilton two years ago I've met my other half, you, and after the most romantic, emotional six months we've bared ourselves in front of god, promising to love and cherish each other till death. now our love is growing into a tiny human being — y/n, you know I'll always love you and our little family endlessly, thank you for turning your life 180 just for me 🤎
ps: sending love to your grandma; without her matchmaking we wouldn't be where we are now!
sebastianvettel you're both disgustingly sweet 😔 congratulations on your baby and the anniversary! Still remember the wedding like it was yesterday
liked by y/nwindsorhamilton, lewishamilton lancestroll when are you telling me about it? y/nwindsorhamilton I wouldn't have it any other way, lewis. I love you now and later, next life and a lifetime beforehand. thank you for giving me a family after I lost them 🤍
lewishamilton you, my love, hold my whole world within you
vcruelsummer soooo i gathered this: she doesn't have children out of wedlock but she left the royal family for lewis with permission of her late grandparents who also played matchmaker between them (original shippers). mAd
