so wait, since i was just reminded of the recorder thing donna talked about in the giggle, i now have a question for uk ppl: do yall learn the recorder in school? like in a music class? and like how much do yall have music class over there?

#this is a very interesting topic for me as a music educator from the us #ik a guy from ireland and he said there was no music class in schools for him and like not the same country BUT same island #(as northern ireland. not the others in the uk but still) #and its so wild and fascinating music education is a fascinating field and the way we do it in the us seems to be largely vvv unique to us #for clarification on how things are different so ppl have a better idea on how to answer my question lol: #in the us music class is standard in elementary schools and most places have general music until abt 5th/6th grade (year 6/7) #(general music = basics- music games learn recorder SOME notation-reading; often classroom instruments eg boomwhackers claves maracas #orff instruments if you're lucky/from a school district that isnt poor. also some world music) #its less standardized after that and not every school will have music after middle school but concert bands and choirs are both huge here #choirs start right on the heels of general music classes (sometimes start earlier + students elect to be in choir instead of general music) #bands USUALLY start in 4th grade (year 5) but sometimes can be later 5th/6th (year 6/7) or even 7th (year 8) (WAY less common) #depends on the state generally 4th is most common i think (choirs start at around the same time i think so probs 4th but choir isnt my area #orchestras are weird bc theyre a lot less common but can commonly start younger bc of one of the big approaches to music ed (suzuki method) #so like maybe 3rd grade (year 4) maybe 4th w/ band (year 5) but i have a friend who teaches at a private school #& said they have 1st/2nd graders (year 2/3)!! orchestra is also not my area though #also marching bands: vv common! usually just in hs (starting 9th grade / year 10) bc it supports the football team at games #but starting in 8th grade (year 9) is also common (sometimes even 7th / year 8) #theres two different styles: collegiate/show band and competition. former is very rah rah pop music etc; competition is more abstract #show bands are clearly designed to entertain whereas competition is designed to be more impressive and tell a story #so more impact moments abstract shapes/lines on the field and has movements - opener ballad closer (fast-slow-fast)

Warabi: okay, so it takes place during the great turf war. Two soldiers one inkling and one octoling who grew up together and are childhood best friends. And the story switches from backstory to backstory until it goes all the way to present day and then it all comes together during the end of the movie. It's really sad like it's so sad.

In a Twitch stream, I brought up my 76yo nana about to play dnd for the first time since I knew everyone would be nice.

And like, she thought everyone was gonna make fun of her, and I showed her how everyone thought that was really cool and wishing her luck.

Wasn’t really expecting her to start tearing up.

Like, I talked her into it, a fun thing for the four of us to do each week, my brother is even doing his first time playing as two characters so we have enough pc, and she’s been thinking that she’s going to be bad at it. I’ve told her that none of them are going to get it perfectly right off the bat and that I’m going to help explain stuff as they come up, like how to roll. I’ve watched a DM playing with new players before, and I’ve been a new player.

But yeah, like, the characters are starting to be thought out, and it sounds like it’s going to be a fun time. If we fucked up a bit, we fuck up a bit. If anything, it’s all on me since I’m the DM, ya know.

At the moment the characters are gonna be:

NanNa: Dwarf Rogue, CN, Charlatan background

Mom: Eladrin Archfey Warlock

Andy (Brother): 1st- Tiefling Cleric 2nd - Either Halfing or Half-Elf Bard who is emo.

I'm so confused... why do people like lotl and think we're getting any points with this band? The lyrics don't make any sense or have any meaning, they sing with a terrible german accent (just sing german at that point) and they don't really commit to the metal genre. The only thing they got going for them is their vibe/look. I mean, please enlighten me, maybe I got it wrong since so many germans seem to like them lol

I should probably preface this by saying that they've been a long time favourite band of mine so I'm super biased and can only give you my subjective opinion so yeahhh...

I genuinely think they make great music and I think none of your arguments actually are arguments. For one, I don't think the accent is that bad. It's way worse when they're just talking instead of singing lol, and it doesn't impact the overall quality of the music at all. There's worse things than having an accent. Personally I find Chris Harms' voice very soothing actually, at times operatic and strong when he does scream vocals. I think they're all good with their instruments too.

Them not committing to the metal genre is also not a real critique imo? They're very self-aware of where they stand in the scene, there's plenty of instances where they make jokes about it themselves (even in the esc bewerbungsgespräch video itself) and they've said themselves that they just want to do what they want, that they want to be their most authentic and that had them happen to fall somewhere into glam metal. Idk if you just mean Blood and Glitter in particular but there's a lot of variety in their songs from way heavier stuff to songs like See You Soon. Blood and Glitter, I would say, is a lot more "mainstream" even, so it just rides that line.

The song itself is about life btw. Chris Harms said himself that the Blood part is nothing negative. It's about life that flows through you. The glitter, the beauty of life and experiences. The up and down of life.

And yeah. Of course their looks play a part in it.

I guess overall - and I mean no disrespect to any of the other contestants. I found positive things about all of them (except maybe Ikke Hüftgold...) - but we had the choice between not one but two Sad Boy Ballads and other songs that were pretty generic within their own genres. And with LotL Germany would send something interesting again. Something that is not pop, that's a little heavier, flashier and sticks out with both visuals and sound. Especially after the whole thing around Electric Callboy last year where the critique was that the other six songs were all the same with little to no variety at all. So even if LotL hadn't won this, I think, personally, that this year was a huge improvement to last year. But as a fan I'm incredibly happy!

I'll stop here because I feel like I'm justifying myself when I don't have to, and I happened to see that I'm not the only one who got this exact ask, so yeeeeah. I'm love them sorry not sorry. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to ramble for a bit hehe

#rat rambles #random card au #band posting #sekai posting #my current concept is that long story short these guys are magical beings that evolved alongside humans #they generally lived side by side but eventually the gods decided if they wanted full worship it'd be best to seperate them #so they basically offered the magic folk some real cushy deals to get them to move elsewhere and then attempted to trap them there #I say attempted cause rly this just lead to a long long war that ultimately resulted in a truce but not without some bullshit compromises #but despite the devinities efforts the magic folk still did exist alongside humans #the ones they did seperate however would end up being known by a different name due to their close work relationship with the gods #the two still have a. strained relationship to put it lightly. and the leading fae are still deeply petty abt what they do have to do #but they also very much do not want to start up another war so they do the bare minimum to fulfil their obligations #aka do some memory relocation #I say relocation because memories cant just be artificially erased with magic #so instead they usually chose a memory barer for the person being removed and store all the memories into them #maya is this for aya and rui is this for emu #its not a fun time since it means you cant leave the main city and youre usually chosen because you knew the person #airi is just a basic contractor tho so she isnt trapped in the city #maya does end up getting to leave tho because of chu2 insisting on contracting her #this wouldnt normally be allowed but chu2 is part divinity and her specific divinity bloodline holds a lot of power #so maya gets to be free for a bit to make music with a lil brat yippeee #its even more anxiety enducing because chu2 is specifically contracting her to participate in a music tornament #the winners of which will be graced with a fun visit from the god of their choice #which isnt a fun thing to have to dread when the person whos memories your holding for is one of said gods
