WARNINGS IN DESCRIPTION AND BELOW
youtube
WARNINGS: Epilepsy, Vertigo, Eyestrain, Abuse, Addiction, Breakdowns
Here is the description placed here for your convenience.
I wanted to try and do what “Poison” attempted to do in a better manner. For example with the billboard I wanted to show that for a passerby it just seems like “Oh, it’s Angel Dust promotion” but for Angel himself it comes off as an unpleasant reminder. Maybe not of things directly related to that photoshoot but maybe things that happened earlier in the day or after the photos were taken. I also wanted to try and encapsulate that feeling of “Am I just making this up? Did I really hate it that much?” that I struggle with when I think back on my own experiences. When you live in hell for like 70+ years I’d imagine that sort of thinking hits you really hard sometimes. I know if I was in an environment like that I’d probably end up wrongly gaslighting myself into thinking it’s normal. It’s an incredibly hard thing to place without making it seem like glorification so I truly hope I got the discomfort across properly.
I also wanted to show the uncomfortable feeling of having a breakdown while being incredibly dizzy which is why the echo-ish effect is in a lot of these scenes, especially for when Angel is drunk and angrily slamming his fist on the ground. Being on the floor is a very vulnerable position to a lot of people, myself included. With the blurry and double-vision I wanted to mimic a fleeting sobriety as things really start to kick in. Along with Angel pounding on the floor, I wanted it to look like the opposite of the lyrics accompanying it. “I don’t want to leave this moment ever” being paralleled with Angel slamming his fist was meant to give a feeling of wanting to break away from a situation. In actuality, I wanted a few of these lyrics to seem more like an inner voice rather than actual fact. Little to none of the lyrics with “I want __” and “you” are 100% genuine, and for the ones that “technically” are, like “I just wanna be whatever you want me to be.” are meant to be taken as “I will do what you tell me to because I don’t want you to hurt/yell at me.”
For posing I also tried my best to make sure it was obvious that I wasn’t showing things as graphically as the “Poison” video. There are still frames of Angel in violent situations which can be uncomfortable, but the extent of it is Angel being grabbed or yelled at. I am very aware things like this are incredibly sensitive topics and my coping process/experience will not translate the same for everyone, but I truly hope that I have portrayed these feelings in a tasteful manner.
As for the colour palette and style, I chose black because its both easy to work with and also captures the feeling of being alone in your mind well; and I chose neon pink because it is Angel Dust’s typical colour, but when there’s enough bright colours like that it can become disorienting, which is what I was looking for. I wanted this video to be as dizzying and brain-messy as possible while still being able to tell enough of whats going on for the viewer to understand.
I also thought I was clever for the XXX on the alcohol since its for explicit ratings as well as alcohol.
If you have any questions, thoughts, or criticisms, please don’t be afraid to mention them.

if you do not have photosensitivity you can do everyone who does a favor and just...go to the epilepsy or photosensitivity tags and politely but firmly inform everyone posting flashing lights and tagging them as "tw epilepsy" "photosensitivity" or "epilepsy warning" that they need to remove all tags that include the word epilepsy and photosensitivity from their post ASAP, never tag flashing or strobing lights with epilepsy in any form, or photosensitivity, and to make sure to tag them as "flashing". No "tw: flashing" or "flashing tw" or "flashing //" or any other specific way, literally just "flashing". After they've tagged it as just "flashing" they can add as many more hyper specific variations as their heart desires. All three possible spellings of the word "eyestrain" can also be added for extra caution that is literally free. "eyestrain" "eye-strain" and "eye strain".
Edit: Here you can just copy and paste this and insert whatever tag is relevant:
---
You need to remove the "[insert misused tag here]" tag from this post. That is literally putting it in the search results for epilepsy. Tag it as "Flashing". Do not tag strobing or flashing lights as epilepsy in any form.
---
you can edit it to make it more friendly but I don't really feel like it at the moment.

You need a better place (Joelxreader)
Tumblr media
So I got a request from @rm4sblog
Could you write something about Joel loving a girl with epilepsy, taking care of her, helping her, comforting her, and dealing with the memory loss and other side effects of seizures?
I agreed because the topic of epilepsy is not completely foreign to me. My cat suffers from epilepsy and unfortunately, I have seen his seizures. Of course, it's not the same as human epilepsy, but there are some similarities. Even the medications are so similar that my cat can take human medications.
I hope you will like it.
Warnings: chronic illness, epilepsy, epileptic seizure, anxiety, mention of death risk, hurt/comfort, little angst, little smut (bc you wanted, I guess)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Having epilepsy would suck in the ordinary world. In a pandemic world, that was fucking bad. It was hard to predict when you'd have an attack. Sometimes all it took was someone to shine a flashlight in your eyes. Other times, a stressful situation was enough.
So... As if everything was stressful during the pandemic. And you had a hard time finding a job. Your options were really limited. Even if you were a great shooter, this encounter with the clicker would probably end in your defeat. You would have an epilepsy attack and no weapon would help you.
Of course, there were drugs that helped you. They reduced the frequency and length of attacks, but they weren't easy to get. You'd never get them yourself. You probably would have died long ago if it wasn't Joel who help you.
Ever since you met this surly, rough, soft-hearted guy, your life has changed for the better. Sometimes you didn't know what made Joel Miller love you so much. How did you deserve such a man? He was tough and brutal on the outside with other people, but in the privacy of your apartment, he treated you like a princess. And he hated it when you said you were "broken." Then he would immediately silence you with a kiss, cup your cheeks and look at you with those brown eyes: "Shhh, sweetheart. You're perfect. If any one of us is broken, it's me and only me."
Nothing in the world would make him leave you. Though sometimes you would that he to leave you.
You loved him like no one else in the world, but when you saw how he risked it to get you medicine, your heart broke. Every time you wiped the blood from his face, when you massaged his tense back when you waited for him to come home, when he left the quarantine zone.
Sometimes you've wondered if, for his sake, you shouldn't rejected him. Tell him he's too old for you, that you don't love him. You would hurt him for his own good.
But the selfish part of you couldn't do that. Because you've never been as happy with anyone as you have been with Joel. There were good days, weeks, and even months when you didn't have a seizure.
And there were days when Joel would throw you on the bed and cover your naked body with kisses. And you let him whisper in your ear all the dirty things he could think of. You screamed his name as his head was between your legs and his tongue worked wonders on your clit.
You tugged at his hair and kissed him deeply, letting him know that he was the sexiest man in the whole fucked up world. You praised his cock and laughed at the soft pink that covered his cheeks. Your man was so insecure at times, and you always made sure he knew how wonderful he was.
Maybe that's why he loved you?
But why did he also love you during the attacks? That was definitely the shitty part of your relationship. There was absolutely nothing romantic about the attacks. It was awful and embarrassing. And yet, Joel always made sure he gave you as much comfort and love as possible after the attack.
So it was also this time.
You had such a good day. Somehow Joel managed to get some chocolate and you decided to make chocolate chip cookies. The whole apartment smelled wonderful, soft music played on the radio. Joel was sitting on the couch impatiently waiting for his sweets. And then it happened.
You just felt your whole body tense up. Anxiety gripped you. You started to be afraid, even though there was no reason to be afraid. A slight numbness in the hand was the final signal. You only managed to moan, "Jo..."
You couldn't remember the rest.
*
Joel jumped off the couch but didn't catch you in time. Your limp body hit the floor with a thud. You had convulsions that shook your body. Joel knelt behind your head, holding it gently. Just so you don't hit yourself too hard. He made sure you didn't choke on your tongue during the attack and spoke to you calmly, "It'll pass soon, baby. I'm here. I won't leave you. Everything will be fine." He knew you couldn't hear him. You once explained to him that you were simply not there during the attack. You felt no pain and heard nothing. Yet he always spoke to you. Maybe because it calmed him down.
After about two minutes, your seizure subsided and Joel couldn't be happier.
*
The first thing you saw was warm brown eyes. You blinked your eyes and looked around. You didn't remember anything and wanted to cry, but then you felt his warm hand on your cheek and heard his soothing voice.
"Y/N, it's me, Joel. Everything's fine now. You're home, you had a seizure."
He gave you a moment to process his words, then asked:
"Can I lift you up?"
You nodded and he carefully took you in his arms and carried you to the bed. He sat you down, making sure you had the right amount of pillows behind your back. He stroked your leg and whispered, "I'll bring you water. I'll be right back."
You slowly came back to yourself. When Joel came back to you, you smiled weakly at him. You were still dazed, but you also wanted to calm him down. No matter how many times Joel told you he was fine. You saw that every attack reflected on him as well.
"Thank you," you whispered as he brought the glass to your lips. "For all."
Joel shook his head and kissed your forehead.
"I always will care for you. You are my love"
You opened your mouth to say something but chose not to. There was no point in explaining to him again that he had no obligation to help you. Joel wouldn't agree with that anyway.
You sat in silence for a few more minutes before Joel said,
"You should take your meds."
You tensed up and grabbed his hand.
"I'll take them later. Sit with me."
Joel rolled his eyes and pecked your nose: "I'll be right back and lay down next to you."
And you already knew you were in trouble. When Joel came back, he had this look on his face that made it clear he wasn't happy. He crossed his arms over his chest and asked.
"Y/N, why are there still so many pills? Last time I checked there were about the same amount of pills." Seeing how sad he made you, he sat next to you and grabbed your hands. "Honey?" His tone of voice was soft again.
You bit your lip and groaned.
"I wanted to save them for later so you don't have to go so fast to get another."
Joel sighed heavily and shook his head.
"But why?"
You could see that he was angry with you, but he tried to hide it.
"Because after the last time, you came back covered in bruises. One day, because of me, you're going to die, Joel!"
Tears started streaming down your face and he pulled you against his strong chest. One of his large hands cupped the back of your head. He kissed your temple and started rocking you gently.
"Shh, it's okay. Calm down. Don't get upset honey. I know you're worried about me, but I'm more worried about you." You felt him squeeze your body tighter, his voice a barely audible whisper. "What if one of the attacks ends in your death? You know it can be. I can't take your loss. I can't go on living without you."
You sighed heavily and started rubbing his back.
"I'm sorry, Joel, but... Sometimes it's so hard for me to accept that you sacrifice so much for me."
Joel pulled back slightly and cupped your face in his large hands.
"Hey, what if I told you I have a plan." You gave him a surprised look. "I'm looking for a better place for us. A place where life is calmer. A place where there's no fucking FEDRA and no fucking Fireflies. A place where you'd have less stress, so fewer attacks." He smiled at you. "How does it sound?"
"Like a fairy tale," you replied.
Joel shifted on the bed so that you could lie down with your head resting on his chest. He started stroking your hair. You were slowly falling asleep. Before you closed your eyes you heard Joel say:
"I will make this fairy tale come true, princess."

Can I Stay?
Tonowari x Reader x Ronal
Summary: You have a Ph.D. in Psychology, which comes in handy for helping out Jake's daughter, Kiri. It also helps you find the two people that would mean most to you in your life. It just took some convincing eye contact for them to never want to get rid of you.
Warnings - Smut, Size Kink
You got called down by Jake to help his daughter, Kiri, she had apparently had a seizure. You and Norm linked into your bodies and flew down to the Metkayina clan. When you got there and jumped out of the plane, you ran up to Jake and followed him to the mauri where she lay. You got in with some other doctors and started to set up machines to help her.
You were at a little bit of a disadvantage to the other doctors, you were a doctor, you held a Ph.D., but in psychology. You had studied seizures quite often, you needed to be here. But waking her up was not your wheelhouse, you just knew how the brain worked.
They had all these machines up and they were trying many different things. Looking at Jake and Neytiri crushed your heart, they looked panicked.
Before you knew it you were being kicked out by a screaming Neytiri. You stood outside the mauri, next to Jake and Norm, you both were trying to console Jake.
Ronal, the tshaik of the tribe, was healing Kiri effectively. You were happy to know she was up and okay, you wanted to run a test on her brain to ensure no damage had been done. You knew her talks of Eywa sounded like classic epilepsy. You let her family see her first, you knew they were worried, and you just wanted to make sure there wasn’t any damage while she was out.
You walked in after a few minutes; Ronal was nearby packing up her stuff and the Sully family was also nearby. You sat down in front of Kiri and held her hand.
“Hi, Kiri, how are you?”
She gave you a big smile, you knew she missed you, “I am okay.”
“I’m glad. I was worried. I wanted to ask you a few questions, are you okay to answer them?”
She nodded, you knew she felt comfortable with you, you told her a lot about her mother. Not only that she liked how much you knew and how wise you seemed. It felt like you always knew what to say and how to fix things.
Ronal would look at you as you talked with Kiri, she would be packing up bottles and pastes and her eyes would flick up at you. She noticed something within you, this big emotional intelligence and calm nature to you. She started to like you before she knew anything about you, just something within her told her you were very trustworthy.
When she was fully packed up, she decided to leave and tell her mate, Tonowari of you and her feelings.
You had finished your questions with Kiri, you picked up some small irregularities and some slight disorientation. But overall, she was good and that’s all that matters, however, you wanted to ask Jake if you could stay to monitor her brain for a while. You didn’t have a PhD and Masters in psychology for nothing, you could help her and possibly mitigate any possible deterioration of her brain’s functionality.
You went up to Jake to see if he’d go with you to ask the chief about you staying. You wanted to help, but you weren’t sure if they’d let you, you were an outsider just like the Sullys were. The worst part as well, was you weren’t permanently in your body like Jake, you would still have to link in day to day. You wanted to help, you wanted to stay, you knew Jake would want you here for Kiri. They liked you and trusted you, all of Jake’s kids enjoyed talking with you since you could help them with any problem.
“You think they’ll let me stay?”
“You want to stay?”
“I want to be here for Kiri. I want to ensure there’s no major damage, especially if it happens again.”
“I can ask, but don’t hold your breath. It took a lot for them to let us stay.”
“I can go with you. Would that help?”
“Sure, why not.”
You and Jake went to the leader of the clan and you asked if you could stay, when they said yes without much argument, you and Jake were surprised, you thought there’d be a fight. You thanked them for their hospitality and for letting you stay; you were excited to get to know the ways of the Metkayina.
You found as the days went on, you learned well, and the kids enjoyed having you around. However, you also found that the two clan leaders liked to watch you from afar as you played with the kids. You found from time to time your eyes would look up and see them staring, so you stared at each other for a while before you smiled and waved at them. It seemed like that happened often, you’d stare at each other and it always brought a warm feeling to you.
One day, after many days of staring off longingly at each other, the two leaders had you come over to their marui. You felt a tinge of nervousness wave over you, this felt like such a big deal and you couldn’t tell why it meant so much to you. When you entered, it was just Tonowari standing in the middle of the space.
“Hi.”
“Hello, I am glad you made it here okay.”
“I’m glad you invited me. I know you two have been staring.”
“And you have been staring back.”
“I have. Ronal stares a lot.”
“She thinks something about you. She sees something in you. Something high and greater.”
“What do you think?”
“I think she is right.”
“So, you both like me?”
“What is not to like? I imagine it works both ways.”
You smiled and looked away as you felt your face heat up, it only heated up more when Tonowari’s hand was placed against your cheek and moved your head to look at him again. You stared into each other’s eyes and then he moved in for a kiss, you went on your tippy toes and locked lips with him. His other arm wrapped around your waist and pulled you into him, this felt so right but then you stopped.
“What about Ronal?”
“What about me?”
You whipped your head around to see her standing at the entryway, she had a smile on her face, she placed down what she held in her hands and walked up to you. She kissed you as well, and it felt even better, even more right, it felt like the only right thing you’ve ever done in your life. You felt Tonowari come up behind you, his hand resting on your hip and the other trailing up your side. His lips lightly pressed to your neck, shoulders and back, you knew this was premeditated, they planned to tag team you.
You knew what they wanted and what they planned, if that’s what they wanted, you’d give it to them. You reached your hand to the back of your neck and unclipped your top, you heard a slight gasp from Ronal as your top fell to the floor. You felt Tonowari’s hands drag up your ribcage and land on your bare breasts, his large hands gripped the flesh. You let out a quiet whimper at his actions, your back was slowly brought against his chest. You then felt him start to kiss your neck and shoulder, his teeth occasionally grazing at your skin making you shudder.
You rested your head on his shoulder, you were fully open and vulnerable for them to do as they pleased. Ronal moved closer to you; her mouth started to kiss down your stomach. She kissed down passed your navel then she came back up to kiss your breasts, she started to suck at your nipples. They both relished in the sounds that fell out of your mouth and the way your body writhed against Tonowari’s chest.
“Use your teeth a little.”
Ronal looked at you, were you really asking her to bite at your nipple?
She used her teeth lightly, ensuring not to get her sharp k9s too close. Your body became even more responsive, Ronal and Tonowari shared a snarky look.
“Lay her down,” Ronal asked Tonowari.
Tonowari picked you up with ease and moved you to lay you down on the floor of their marui. You watched as Ronal and Tonowari took off their minimal clothing and you finished off taking yours off. The three of you were naked and you sat up on your forearms to get a better look at them. Ronal positioned herself behind your head, she lifted it up and placed it in her lap. Tonowari positioned himself between your legs, he lifted your hips up to get closer to you. He leaned down to kiss you, and as he kissed you, he placed his hand on your stomach and ran his hand down to start toying with your clit.
Your body writhed up into him, the pleasure was immense, almost too much. You knew he had to be big and your body was still small compared to his reef body, you knew he was going to prepare you. His fingers slipped into your folds and your head pushed back against Ronal’s strong thighs in pleasure. It wasn’t long before his fingers were replaced with his big, thick, long cock, it pushed into you and your back arched as he slowly pushed in inch by inch. When he bottomed out, he held your hips and waited a few more moments before brutally fucking you. Shortly after a few thrusts, you reached up to pull Ronal down for a kiss.
“Get on my face.” You whispered.
She looked shocked at your request, her eyes were wide for a moment before she moved her legs and lightly placed your head on the soft floor. She straddled your face, facing toward her mate, and she slowly set her body weight down on you. You wrapped your arms around her thighs to keep her pressed against your mouth, you went right into flicking your tongue. Her moans were heavenly, you felt her hips tilt forward as she leaned towards Tonowari, and that’s when you heard them kissing. Your tongue pressed harder into her clit as you kept good suction on it, your tongue flicked through her folds.
You could hear Tonowari chuckle at Ronal’s moans, you knew that he liked watching her break under an immense pleasure. It also made him fuck you harder, he was getting off on watching you pleasure his mate. You came first, your body shook as you came, and Tonowari held your legs as you writhed. Your hands squeezed Ronal’s thigh while you came, you then felt her move her hips more as she was getting closer. She came shortly after and the man of the hour always waited till his girls came. He came thrusting deep into you, deeper than you ever felt before. His hips stuttered as he rode out his orgasm, his deep breathy moans were making you horny all over again.
Tonowari helped Ronal off your face and you lay there writhing while still impaled by his cock. You whined as Tonowari pulled out of you and helped lift you up into his lap. He holds you against him as he stands and helps move you to their bed. They held you between them.
“I am glad that you stayed,” Ronal said.
“I knew you would be.”
Tonowari gripped your hip and pulled you back towards him, “don’t get cocky now.”
You giggled at him, “I didn’t think you would ever use that word.”
“Not often.”
“As a human, you hear that word a lot. Here, I barely hear Jake say it.”
“What was it like being human,” Ronal asks.
“Very different. Even as a doctor, it's still different. Now I’m not a doctor like you, and I could never be, I know the brain, but I don’t know the body. I praise you for that.”
Ronal smiled at your words.
“I’m grateful that I’ve been given this body. I’m grateful that I get to be here with you guys. I’m grateful that I passed all my classes and got my PhD. Nothing is as amazing in my life as being here. Being here with you two, getting to be as intimate as we are. Being human you miss a lot in day-to-day life. There is no slowness and love. It’s so fast and so broken and so much anger. Here it’s bliss.”
“We will always be here to slow things down and to love you,” Tonowari said as he kissed your shoulder.

The Horrors of Pennhurst
part two
Summary: Pennhurst Asylum was the worst place Sam and Colby could have chosen
Pairing: Colby Brock x Olive Blake (Medium)
Warnings: Angst, Horrible Place History, Descriptions of Violence and Sickness, Shadow figures, Reader is an empath/medium, Hidden feelings
A/N: this, I'm so proud of this, and also part three with all the fluff i could possibly write
Tumblr media
Pennhurst State School and Hospital, also called Pennhurst Asylum in Pennsylvania was with no doubt haunted and she could definitely feel it, all the sadness and anger, Olive had read multiple stories about the place and the terrors that happened in there, she saw the pictures but didn't connected it to her dream, Sam and Colby were joking and saying things Olive was not listening at all, she was being really quiet as the three of them walked to the entrance, Olive Blake finally saw the building in front of them, sent shivers down her spine, an overwhelming feeling growing in her
"Colbs" She called absolute terror in her eyes
"Is this the place? Of your nightmares?" Colby asked as they were crossing the entrance to the asylum, he was worried by the fear in her voice
"Is there anything you want tell us?" Sam asked, she looked at the building then to Colby
"No, everything is fine" She said walking in front of the group, leading them inside
Sam got closer and whispered to his best friend
"What happened? She's acting weird" The blond boy asked, whispering as quiet as he could
"Nothing, just this place freaked her out" Colby responded looking in the direction she was walking
"And between you two?"
"Why you ask me that?" Colby said, with a defensive tone on his voice, Sam knew everything about everything, he could read him like a book
"Because you two like each other, she goes with you when she has nightmares, I've seen you two cuddling in the couch, so had Kat" He accused his friend "And you have liked her since so long, it's about damn time"
"I don't think it's the time to discuss that, plus it's just cuddling, I'm not gonna marry her" He gave his final statement, looking at Olive Blake again, walking ahead of them, silent, repeating the dream on a loop on her head
There was still some daylight, so Pennhurst didn't looked as terrifying, but for Olive it still was the worst, they went out so Sam and Colby did the intro of the video in the front of the building while the redhead girl just waited to be introduced, but their audience knew her since the exploring videos
They entered the place, it was almost pitch black, the walls were just as they were on her nightmare, deteriorated and full of graffitis, most of them satanic, the air was thick and Olive felt it almost immediately having difficulty breathing, before filming the history of the place, which she knew it was so sad and dark
She saw a grey shadow on her peripheral vision, peeking on a door, already she was seeing things, she dismissed the whole situation and went back to get close to Colby, feeling protected when he put his arm around her shoulders
She felt a cold breeze on her neck, and looked to her friend in complete terror
"Did you felt that?" She asked
"Yeah... Maybe it's the wind, there's a lot of open windows" He said, to try and calmed her down "Don't worry"
"Please don't leave me" She pleaded to Colby, there have been a while since she had contact with whatever was in the other side
"I won't" He reassured her, Sam passed him the camera and he puted it in a window sill as they were getting ready to tell the story of the place
Olive was in between the two boys
"Are we ready?" Sam asked and everyone just nodded affirmatively, starting to film "On January 23rd of 1903, Pennhurst State School was commissioned as the eastern Pennsylvania state institution for the feeble-minded and epileptic" Sam said explaining the beginning of the place
"A place for people with intellectual disabilities and people with epilepsy to live, learn and be cared for in a safe environment" Colby continued
"Unfortunately, the facility fell into quick disrepair and poor living due to overcrowding, understaffing and lack of funds" Olive continued with the story, as accurate as she read on the multiple pages Colby and her visited the week before the trip "Regardless of their age, all residents were called children, the average age was 36 years old"
"That sounds so degrading" Sam said, feeling bad for the people that once lived there
"People with ADD and ADHD would also be put in here" Sam added to the information they were telling the camera, and later the viewers "About 60 years later, a documentary Suffer the Little Children aired, that finally revealed all the horrors of the facility"
"There was a doctor here, who was called Dr. Fear" Olive Blake dropped as a fun fact, but nothing about that place was fun, just bizarre his name was that
"That's so villainy like" Colby joked, trying to lighten up the mood for the sake of the video
"Yeah, i know, like a Marvel villain or something" Olive Blake responded to her friend, and he just chuckled softly "In one occasion he injected patients with a non damaging shot, it did nothing but cause pain"
"What a piece of shit!" Sam exclamated, the two presents just nodded
"Also the documentary stated that the largest zoo spent 7.15$ per animal a day, Pennhurst spent 6.90$ a day per patient" Colby added
"That's horrible" Sam commented "Did you two made more research that I did?" Sam asked surprised
"Neither of us wanted to watch the documentary alone, so we took some notes" Olive said softly and Colby just smiled at his friend
"Let's start the investigation, we need to make contact with the doctor" Sam said, exited to finally start doing things
"He is already here" Olive Blake said with no filter, she wasn't supposed to say it like that
"Did you..." Colby asked and she knew what the question before he finished "Did you saw him?"
"In my dream i did, and I saw a shadow over there" She finally confessed, pointing to the door frame of one of the rooms where she saw the figure "But it might be a patient"
Silence, terrifying silence then a loud thud, followed by heavy footsteps
"He's here, somewhere" Olive announced to the group "I think we should put a rempod in the main hallway just in case"
Sam took a rempod out of the backpack they have been carrying with them, set it and waited far away, then Colby set a couple of cat balls
"Those never work" Sam said pointing at the cat balls
"Those heavy footsteps might make it go off" Colby explained and Olive nodded behind the camera
"Great thinking, that was what I was going to say" She praised Colby, and he felt proud of himself "Ok, if there is any patient, doctor or nurse roaming this hallways can you get close to the device here?" She asked
"That's so specific"
"We don't need any more attachments from demonic little girls" Colby joked
"Dude, that's in the past, i got rid of Sally" Sam exclaimed looking into the camera with a frown
"Are you sure about that?" She said and the rempod started going off a lot, as if someone was holding the antenna furiously, the boys were absolutely freaking out as Olive was calm "Thank you, can you step away?" The rempod went to normal with a slight temperature change
"That was freaky, how can you be so calm?" Sam asked and the rempod went off again more calmly
"Well... I'm used to it, i always could do it, since I was a kid, i just chose to ignore it" The redhead girl explained to the boys "I can't keep running away from it"
"True, we have a human rempod now, sweet!" Sam exclaimed exited
"No" Colby said out of nowhere, with that protective tone in his voice, same that comes after those nightmares and comforts her in the night "She is our friend and roommate, we can't use her to get evidence, at least not if she doesn't want to"
Olive Blake felt her stomach flutter, because of the brunette's words
"I'm already here, let's keep going until i feel dizzy" She smiled at both of them sincerely
The three of them walked down the hallway, Sam had the EMF and Colby held the camera switching with the blond boy every now and then, Olive was holding the ovilus and it was off, she got lured into the punishing room by voices asking for help and never noticed when the boys disappeared but she was all alone in one of the most haunted places, she had an urge to cry and run but she stood in the room for a moment deciding what to do, make contact was her first thought, she took her phone out and started video recording for the boys to see later, if she got anything
"Hello? Is there anyone here with me? Knock once for yes, and two for no" She asked gently, she felt a presence, a woman in her mid thirties, one knock immediately after her question "Are you a doctor?" Two knocks, she sat in chair that was close, she felt out of breath but not terrible
Suddenly Olive Blake got overwhelmed by sadness
"I feel what you felt in the moment and want to tell you that I'm sorry about what happened here" She reached for the ovilus on her tiny backpack and turned it on
"We can talk better like this" She said, now feeling a cold breeze again "it would be amazing if you stopped making me cold"
"Sorry"
"Empath"
"Doctor"
"Careful"
"Fear"
"I'm not afraid, don't worry" She got incredibly comfortable now, it had been years since she had a conversation with a non living person "I'm glad to talk to you"
"Malevolent"
Olive's heart skipped a beat but she didn't stopped, even when her gut feeling told her that
"Coming"
Olive Blake started to feel dizzy and nauseous, her fingers felt tingly, her chest closed, making her feeling like she was chocking, the readhead felt the need to run as fast and far as she could but felt like paralyzed
"Guys, what I'm getting from all of this is the doctor is coming, and I'm in the punishing room, so we all know where this is going" She tried to joke about it
"Leave"
"Run"
"Protecting"
"You"
The ovilus startled her, as she got up to leave, finally being able to move, taking her backpack and still recording, she felt tired but she had to find Sam and Colby, Olive just needed a hug as she felt drained mentally and physically
"I'm leaving, thank you so much for talking to me tonight, but you are not allowed to follow us home" She walked down to long hallways, starting to think like Sam and Colby to find them, top floor was her first thought, the most active area, she was just there, basement, no fucking way she was getting there, her mind was racing as she was afraid to look somewhere in case the doctor was lurking, the ovilus was long dead after she left the room and then out of nowhere
"You"
"Supposed"
"Aren't"
"Be"
"To"
"You aren't supposed to be here" Olive whispered to herself, now desperate to find Colby "just like in my nightmare, curious"
"He"
"In"
"Danger"
"Is"
The ovilus spoke again, words that made her think of Colby, she really wished no one pull of his hoodie or did anything to him, she knew she couldn't do anything to prevent any of that from happening, but hoped he was ok and the doctor was just trying to trick her
she saw a light on door frame and then that familiar masculine voice in the distance
"Sam, this is my fault, she shouldn't have come" The brunette sounded as desperate as she was feeling
"We are going to find her, Colby, and after that you're telling her, you have been yearning for years" Sam kind of scolded him, it was true everything he said but he was not going to do it
"Safe"
The boys heard the ovilus close in the same hallway they were walking, Colby let out a sigh of relief when he saw her, pale as paper, sweaty and scared, feeling his heart shattering for her
She run to his arms holding him tightly
"You would not believe what just happened to me" She said now exited to tell her friends everything and stopped recording
"You scared the living crap out of me, Liv!" Colby exclaimed holding on to her shivering body and comforting her like he always did
"Let's do the outro and get to the car" Sam said, feeling like he was third wheeling, he knew Colby would not tell her, that he was gonna wait until he couldn't anymore
"Let's get home, Katrina needs to hear this, it was a crazy night" The three of them drove back home, where Katrina was with Stas, Olive sat everyone down waiting for them to stop talking and her to calm down from her adrenaline
To be continued...

this may seem silly, but i’m running a warriors themed dnd campaign and I was reading your epilepsy post, and read about cannabis. I was wondering if there’s any way off the top of your head that the cat could smoke it? I have a player who runs a cat called weedsmoke, and I want to know if that’s possible in any way for comedic effect! thank you :3
THIS is why I keep my ask box open thank you. I put my whole back into my research and dive through studies to learn about cat biology, but still bend over backwards to justify things that are Fun like Shrewpaw's pheasent being in cat hell
(Content warning, of course, for discussion of cat medicine and weed smoking)
-Smoke: Why is it bad?
So the big thing about smoke that bars it from kitties is how sensitive cats are to smoke particles, and how they groom. For one, they have a waaay stronger sense of smell, which means they have more receptors for air particles in their nose, and a more sensitive respiratory system in general.
Not to mention, if the cat is smoking a blunt, the secondhand smoke is going to get weed particles everywhere. Cats lick themselves clean; so it may make the rest of the party sick to be around that.
That's why it's not even good to light candles or burn incense in a house with a cat. Humans really don't know how hardy we are to poisons and air quality compared to the rest of the animal kingdom.
-THC and CBD: What about it?
THC is the chemical that gets you high from cannabis use. CBD is the medicinal compound present in cannabis that can help treat epilepsy.
For my Epilepsy guide, I specifically recommended wild ditchweed exactly because it got a really high CBD content and a really low THC one. Human cultivars of cannabis select for raising the THC content, and this is what makes it so toxic to felines. They're very, very sensitive to THC but not CBD.
So how can we do this?
Portable bong.
We'll have to just accept the problems with smoke and cats, because there's no way we can truly fix that besides saying that Clan cats have stronger lungs than normal cats.
If you would like SOME sort of explanation though, you could say that Weedsmoke is descended from RiverClan cats and they just naturally have stronger lungs, or WindClan tunnelers.
We're also accepting that THC affects the cats more strongly than it does a human, and the small amount of THC present in ditchweed can get this warrior high.
But we CAN reduce the problem of getting smoke particles all over the party, by giving the character a small, portable bong. This'll give Weedsmoke better control over their weed, so that the smoke doesn't settle all over the other cats.
A bong can be made out of simple terracotta or wood, since glassmaking may be above the ability of canon-adjacent Warrior Cats.
I hope that helps!!

hello! i love your writing this might be qa little silly but could i request a draco x fem!epileptic!reader with angst, maybe where she and draco visit the Malloy manor to visit his parents who don’t accept her even if she’s a pure blood and all the shouting stresses her out and later that day they have to attend a ball and the reader had a seizure and draco helps her and he knows the reason behind this? thank you xx
safe space | draco malfoy
pairing: draco x epileptic!reader
word count: 0,7k
summary: where draco helps y/n through a seizure
a/n: thank you very much for requesting, but please never worry that your requests are silly or something like that, because they definitely aren’t! i always do my best to fulfill your requests and if i can’t (out of whatever reasons) i’ll let you know but rest assured that i would never consider them silly!!! also, i had to do a lot of research for this one, so i really hope that i portrayed it correctly. i’m always grateful for corrections & feedback <3
warnings: angst, epilepsy, anxiety, mentions of blood, mentions of being unwell
universe: harry potter
Tumblr media
Rubbing your sweaty palms together and finally clasping your hands tightly in front of your stomach, you try to avoid eye contact with anyone in the room as much as possible and to keep your hands from frantically shaking. The thrusts of anxiety that keep twitching through your veins make it difficult for you to focus on what is happening in front of you and the fact that the people in the room are gliding across the dance floor in their long, flowing, and colorful dresses with dancing steps does not help with your state at all. You chew your bottom lip nervously until you feel like you can taste your own blood. Usually, you are well in control of your anxiety and epilepsy, but with everything that has already happened on this horrible day, even you are starting to lose control.
After all, it was supposed to be a happy and cheerful day, because Draco first introduced you to his parents after they invited you to the annual Malfoy ball, a tradition among the pureblood families. You were incredibly nervous but also excited because you love Draco more than anything and meeting his parents for the first time felt like taking your relationship one step further.
However, nobody could have expected that neither Lucius nor Narcissa Malfoy would take a liking to you, if not despise you. You did not even get a real chance to show them who you truly are when they already fought this relationship with all their might. All of the yelling and fighting took a toll on you, mentally and physically, which is why Draco quickly removed you from the situation.
You thought you were alright, you really thought you were going to be fine. But you were terribly wrong, as you realize in that moment when Draco steps in front of you while reaching out his hand with a smile to ask you for a dance.
As soon as your eyes meet his, you feel dizzy and lose your balance slightly when you try to take a step toward him, trying not to let it show too much. Suddenly, however, you feel lightheaded, you can no longer think clearly, as if a dense fog is covering your thoughts.
“W-We’ve already d-danced”, you stutter out in one quick breath, inwardly knowing that your brain is just playing a trick on you right now, causing a déjà vu of something that actually never happened before. Your drowsiness is now merged with vision problems, and small black spots spread all over your vision while a numbness creeps into your legs, causing you to sag down.
You feel Draco prevent you from falling to the hard floor, but he stops touching you and keeps his distance right after, but just the thought of him being by your side makes the needles that pierce your skin a little more bearable.
Trying to get off the ground with your shaky hands, Draco’s calm voice reaches you from afar and stops you in your movement, laying back down.
In an attempt to calm your rapid heartbeat, you carefully listen to Draco’s slow instructions, though you cannot see him due to the blackness of your vision. However, his voice gets through to you, acting as an anchor that you can use as a guide to find your way back to him.
It takes a while before you can slowly distinguish between tones and colors again, your heartbeat calms down and the nauseas you felt shortly after tipping over disappears. Now you also feel how Draco gently takes your hand in his, because he knows that now is the time when you need his support in physical proximity as well.
Draco has helped you through your seizures many times before, so he knows exactly what to do and what not to do. Actually, after the unpleasant conversation with his parents this afternoon, he did not want to go to this ball, especially since he knows how difficult these situations can be to you. But you insisted to make him happy. Or rather, to convince his family of you after all.
But Draco knows that that is not necessary. No matter what his parents say or think, he will always love you. They will never be able to chance anything about his feelings for you, you are inseparable. He needs you as much as you need him.
And in moments like these, when Draco lovingly picks your still trembling, from the seizure exhausted body off the floor and carries you out, you realize once again that no one in this world can harm you when Draco is around. Because Draco is your safe space.

Do you happen to have any information on the Harding test and if any companies are required to use it in the US? Like if online ads are required to use it, games, etc.
I had a few seizures from Psychonauts 2, and the game does not have a flashing lights warning. I requested that to be patched in so no one else might figure it out by experience like me. The staff responded well, and mentioned that Microsoft should have done internal testing. I found Xbox's gaming accessibility guidelines for photosensitivity, and it mentioned the Harding test as what they use to check for photosensitive accessibility. I'm trying to find more information on how it works, but can't. All I can think is that maybe it is like PEAT (Photosensitive Epilepsy Analysis Tool) but more robust. I would ideally like to not send in £30 + a clip for checking how it works for their online testing with content I know can give me a seizure to see if it picks up on that.
- @crippled-kunikos
Hi Anon, I've been sitting on this for a while and been thinking on how to answer this. I don't have any additional information outside of what's available to the public regarding th Harding Test. I have some personal opinions by now on flashing lights however, so maybe this helps you in some way, but beware that this is all based on my own experience/observations:
To my knowledge the Harding Test was created to detect the worst of the worst flashing lights and photosensitivite effects. So this means, that there is a certain threshold that must be passed in order for it to be like "Beep boop this stuff bad!" So. What about all the other stuff that is very flashing lights, but not flashy enough to kick off this response? Well - that stuff is potentially triggering too, but less likely to like... to the average (non-photosensitive) person. Now - I am quotig wikipedia here, so not the best source but the wording puts it well:
"Any such over limit violations give rise to the media being failed. Otherwise the media is passed fit for broadcast and a pass certificate can be automatically generated." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harding_test
So, to me this means: The Harding Test has a specific limit/amount of flashing lights that needs to be reached for it to flag something as dangerous. It's basically detecting the worst of the worst. But it does not seem to be designed to catch flashing lights that are only dangerous for "some" part of photosensitive people. Photosensitivity seems to be a spectrum, when you look around on tumblr, users have a lot of different tolerance levels for this! Some get triggered by a still image that is otherwise pure red, others are mostly fine. Some people experience motion sickness via rapid scrolling, some people don't. So.. The Use of the Harding Test is no 100% guarantee that a game will be absolutely SAFE for every level of photosensitivity. Also - to my awareness, the XBOX accessibility guidelines are just that. Guidelines. They are not mandatory to be applied during development. They are a toolkit and ressource pool for Developers, but not a "Must have" for every game. It is great that this ressource exists!!! BUt it isn't a mandatory step within the development of games. I reckon, it's possible that Psychonauts 2 was run through the Harding test by microsoft, but none of the footage run through was severe enough to reach that threshold for the Algorithm to go "Beep Bop this sucks!" Hence the game made it in as is. On the note on how the harding test works - I think looking at movies makes it also clearer, that the Harding Test has a certain threshold that media needs to pass, but this revision won't guarantee absolute safety. Looking at Spiderverse and the Incredibles 2, the movie's intense strobes were certainly reduced for the UK movie theatre release. But the reduction of the effects in Incredibles 2 was only just enough to pass the test, it did not make the movie less dangerous to a wide audience with differing photosensitivity levels. I hope this helps!

Recs for Disability Pride month (and some bonus belated recs for Pride!)
All titles link to Storygraph, which can give you a further synopsis, as well as any warnings.
Godkiller (Godkiller #1) by Hannah Kaner
Meet Kissen - the eponymous godkiller. In a world which has forsaken gods, Kissen deals with those who still prey on the public. She finds herself drawn into a quest with a young girl who is bound to a god. Along the way, they start to uncover what truly happened in their country's war against the gods. Bisexual rep, queer-normal world, main character has a prosthesis.
Iron Widow (Iron Widow #1) by Xiran Jay Zhao
Zetian volunteers herself to be a concubine pilot, to avenge the death of her sister. Giant robots, known as Chrysalises, are piloted by men, with the assistance of a female (concubine) pilot. Zetian's actions lead her to be punished by a match-up with Li Shimin, who has killed every concubine pilot who has ever flown with him. But everyone has underestimated Zetian. Poly, bisexual rep, the correct resolution to a love triangle. The main character suffers from chronic pain, mobility issues, and uses a wheelchair on occasion.
The Final Strife (The Ending Fire Trilogy #1) by Saara El-Arifi
This is a class-driven society, and clear-blooded Hassa belongs to the ghost class, who've had their tongues cut out and hands severed by the ruling Ember class. The book follows Sylah, one of the Stolen Ember children, forged into a weapon and using drugs to cope with her past, and the beautiful and privileged Anoor. In the background, there's Hassa, keeping an eye on everything. The Ghostings communicate through sign language, and although Sylah is as fluent as possible without being a native, she can't speak it - it is a language exclusive to them. Sylah also suffers from drug withdrawal symptoms in the first book. Trans rep, wlw, mutism.
Black Sun (Between Earth and Sky #1) by Rebecca Roanhorse
Xiala is a disgraced Teek, charged with bringing a 'harmless' passenger to Tova. Serapio has a destiny, one which has caused him to be blinded, and he's determined to fulfill it. Blind main character (but has the capacity to be magically enhanced), queer-normal world.
The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue (Montague Siblings #1) by Mackenzi Lee (YA)
Monty is already well-versed in vice before embarking on his Grand Tour with his best friend, Percy. It isn't a problem that he has a big crush on Percy - really. But it is Percy's last chance for freedom, since he suffers from epileptic seizures, and his uncle has judged it best that he be put in a sanitorium at the end of the trip. Bisexual rep, mlm, epilepsy, period-typical homophobia, period-typical discrimination.
Six of Crows (Six of Crows #1) by Leigh Bardugo
If you haven't already read it and you want to know more about a world like the Court of the Rogue, definitely check this one out! The Crows are a fantastic group, and you can't help rooting for them. Leader Kaz uses a cane and suffers from PTSD - Bardugo says she was looking to create a character who was "disabled and ferocious". Queer found family, mlm amongst the main characters, limp/use of cane, PTSD.
Bonus Belated Pride Recs The Jasmine Throne (The Burning Kingdoms #1) by Tasha Suri
There's a rot spreading through the nation, which sees dying plants sprout inside people’s bodies, killing them. The Emperor is seeking to crush a rebellion, and will not tolerate any dissent. Priya does what she can to help the poorest citizens, but it's not without a cost, and she needs to keep her head down. Malini, the vengeful princess imprisoned by her own brother, has other ideas, however. Wlw.
The Priory of the Orange Tree (The Roots of Chaos #1) by Samantha Shannon
A quest fantasy with a queendom on one side, where magic is prohibited and the throne of Inys has passed, generation after generation, from mother to identical daughter. On the other side, there be dragons. Assassination attempts, a beautiful wlw romance, another main character who reads as ace, and a gripping plot, this book is worth every one of its (almost) 850 pages. Part of a series but each book stands alone.
Little Thieves (Little Thieves #1) by Margaret Owen (YA)
Vanja is one of my favourite characters that I've encountered in years (and as a bonus, the author is a confirmed TP fan!). This is an irreverent retelling of the Goose Girl from the maid's perspective, and the concept behind the title is, "The little thief steals gold, but the great one steals kingdoms; and only one goes to the gallows." Vanja is a little thief, accustomed to fending for herself, but she comes up against a curse, an impending marriage, and a personified pocket ledger. Demi rep, queer found family.
Finally, I read Something Wild & Wonderful by Anita Kelly, which is a story about two guys who meet hiking the PCT. One of them brought his comfort read - Alanna: the First Adventure

I do agree with the general statement of your post (that is, products should include warnings). I also thank you for acknowledging that seizures can cause death. I'm in the epilepsy community (although I am not photosensitive myself) and I can not stress how much negative pushback we've gotten from some spiderverse fans just for pointing out that a seizure could lead to death.
I will argue though that with spiderverse in particular, I think it was negligent on the part of the creators and studio to release those films as it currently is. People can be diagnosed with photosensitive epilepsy at any age but is especially common at the age between 7-19. The spiderverse films are a mainstream product primarily aimed at that age group. No matter what kind of warnings there are for the film, kids that age will probably not know if they are photosensitive until they are watching the film and have a seizure in a public place.
I also find that the inaccessibility of the films to photosensitive people completely undercuts the films inclusive nature. Like I have never before seen so many arguments that "art isn't supposed to be accessible for everyone" and that photosensitive people should just deal with being locked out of the conversation until these films. Not foing to lie, it's a little hurtful seeing it come from the wider disability community too.
i don't really have a response to the point re: it being mainstream and targeted towards a young audience; i think it's definitely a discussion to have, but overall i think that the phenomenon of targeting age demographics as marketing demographics is a bad one, which only evolved for monetary purposes, and the idea that age is a good predictor for taste in art and preferred complexity of topics is fundamentally flawed. essentially: yeah, i get you, but the angle i'm coming at this from is that we should really stop ~marketing media towards minors or adults~ to begin with and let the content of the art stand on its own.
re: inclusiveness: i also get you, but like. any art whose message is inclusiveness is going to intentionally exclude a significant portion of disabled people. there is no possible way for a piece of art to be accessible to all disabled people, because disability is such a broad category that every single access need directly conflicts with at least one other access need, possibly dozens.
i tend to prefer that artists openly reckon with which disabilities they're excluding from access to their art and why. i know it's an uncomfortable thing to reckon with, but like... the idea that all art has the chance to be equally accessible to all people and the only reason it isn't is lack of effort re: inclusion on the artist's part... is just a straight up lie. there isn't any way to reconcile two directly conflicting access needs, much less dozens of directly conflicting access needs, so rather than push that under the rug and act like some access needs are superior and as long as they're fulfilled the art is blanket "accessible" to all, i would much rather artists openly discuss what groups of disabled people they are prioritizing in accessibility and why.
(in the case of spiderverse movies in particular: back when the first one came out years ago, i engaged with some talk in some smaller low-vision spaces about the film's bright colors and overall eye-strain being actually more accessible to some individuals, because it made it easier for them to see the broad shapes and movements than most movies at the time. directly conflicting needs. while it's almost definitely unintentional on the spiderverse team's part, i would rather them know about it and grapple with the difficult decision of who to include vs. exclude publicly, rather than sweep the whole thing under the rug or act like one group's accessibility needs are obviously more important than the others.)
like... it's a difficult conversation to have, because i genuinely have a lot of empathy for being permanently locked out of engaging with a piece of art that i love a lot because of its inaccessible nature (i have a couple of different video game series that i love and Can Never Play, and i also can't mod them to make them easier to play, because the ways they're inaccessible to me are the fundamental point of the art). but i also at the same time have to balance that with my material experience of being a person whose access needs directly and 100% conflict with other disabled people's access needs, the material experience of understanding very firsthand that there is no possible way for some art to be accessible to me, ever, even in a world where everyone cared about accessibility, because other disabled people exist too. and like. idk! it's a weird fucking emotional space to be in! i at the very least would like for everyone involved to tackle it head-on, instead of playing the game we currently seem to be playing where 1) mainstream artists do not grapple with these concepts at all, nor do they clearly label which disability needs are included vs. excluded in any of their art, 2) we in disability spaces act like there is one universal measure of "accessibility in art" and if you are excluded by that measure then your needs are not from genuine disability or your disability simply is not included in disability activism.

TLDR; Flashing lights as a trigger is common knowledge, even if most people choose not to acknowledge that or a few people genuinely aren’t aware, and we need to stop pretending that it’s not.
Something I’m tired of seeing, both in the context of excusing large companies and in the context of talking about individuals who have made mistakes along these lines is the claim that flashing lights are not a common knowledge trigger. People may not realize how many people it affects, or think it’s not that big of deal, or may be choosing to be ignorant, and a relatively small amount of people may genuinely not know, but claiming it’s not common knowledge that it’s a trigger just because a majority of people don’t act like it has an impact is extremely frustrating.
Anyone who has ever played a video game has seen the photosensitivity warning, which outlines that flashing lights and other patterns in games can trigger seizures. That alone is a huge population of people. And yes, I understand that not everybody actually reads the warnings, but I also find it hard to believe that a warning that’s in every insert, on every startup screen, and before every game itself, that’s about 3 sentences long, has gone completely unread to the extent that this could be considered “obscure knowledge”
And that’s not taking into account the amount of ableist portrayals that either turn photosensitive epilepsy into a joke or something to be gawked at. Almost every adult cartoon, including the Simpsons, (which I single out because I know most other adult cartoons will get a response of “well nobody should be watching that show anyway so you can’t call it common knowledge”, though I will still point out that a lot of people do still watch those shows as well), includes an episode making fun of the incident where an episode of Pokémon caused seizures all over Japan because of the flashing lights. Medical dramas almost always have an episode where photosensitive epilepsy is a plot point. The portrayals being ableist does not mean that people aren’t aware that it’s a trigger because of them.
It’s also made the news multiple times, such as when Incredibles 2 issued a warning after the fact, when the Weeknd had a music video pulled from showing before Suicide Squad in theaters, when Cyberpunk 2077 came out, or the aforementioned Pokémon incident. (Granted the Pokémon incident happened decades ago, but also it’s a pretty well known piece of trivia about Pokémon even if you’ve managed to avoid media references to it, as a lot of people talk about the banned episodes and why they were banned).
These were all just examples I could think of in roughly 30 seconds. And they’re all prevalent enough to make the topic count as somewhat common knowledge on their own, but when put together, I’d say it’s fairly clear that this is common knowledge.
And to address my earlier statement that someone not knowing doesn’t mean that it’s not common knowledge, plenty of people learn new common knowledge things every day. And not just children or people who have a specific reason not to know. But people who have just somehow managed to never come across information like how to pronounce certain common words in their native language. That doesn’t make the knowledge obscure, it just means that that person hasn’t had the opportunity to learn it yet.
1 in 26 people have epilepsy and have most likely been warned that flashing lights are a possible trigger. Let’s assume that epilepsy was the only condition that was triggered by flashing lights (which it’s not) and that on average they only shared that information with 1 person. That alone brings the number to 1 in 13, almost 10% of people. And sharing that information with 1 person on average is probably significantly lowballing it. While that might not be enough to call it common knowledge on its own, that’s just an estimate that excludes other conditions and other means of people finding out, and 10% is a significant portion of the population to find out just from having epilepsy or knowing someone with epilepsy, and again, I was lowballing it.
I am addressing this from an epilepsy perspective because I am epileptic myself, and that’s why my examples are heavily epilepsy focused, but the fact that I can name so many ways people could have found out and I’m only speaking off the top of my head about examples that are epilepsy related also means that this is even more common knowledge than the examples in this post imply.

Okay.
So, the Alvarez connection isn't quite as strong as previously thought, which might be good or bad depending on the rest of the situation. And 'the old man', whoever he is, seems significant. Maybe I've got this the wrong way around with the Hollow Ground situation - maybe she really is another, previous escapee from the Farm using some of the same genetic material.
But also - huh. Revelation becoming suddenly more interesting when Hollow Ground met her. I suspect that has something to do with Marlene's true identity and real face, and the likenesses between them. Not sure what, though.
Tumblr media
And- okay, new hero upcoming. And Captain Blaze is apparently following up on those hints from his scrap with Revelation, that's definitely a good sign. Not sure about the rest of it, though.
It is depressing that all Marlene's efforts have boiled down to 'business as usual', though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...I am going to go out on a limb and say that Vernon Browne knows a lot more about all of this than he's saying - the name Marlene Hepburn would ring a few warning bells for him if he knew enough to turn up at her funeral and confront her girlfriend then, and if he knows she's a Re-Gene...or possibly something about those records Ortega found that shouldn't exist...then there's got to be something interesting there.

...really not sure about the relevance of this one, but okay, Jake's okay. Though, he too appears to have questions that might be useful in future games.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, Captain Blaze definitely has some questions. That's a good sign. And he seems determined to keep digging. Also, the Guardians appear to be a heroes-for-hire type outfit, based on that line about the payout, which- might make them unreliable in future. Definitely needs watching, that.
Tumblr media
Okaaay, that's...vague. Interesting, but vague. What is she up to? And- wait, she was at the auction? Definitely going to want answers to this one.
Tumblr media
Holy shit, that's who Owl married? I mean, they're neither exactly major characters, but still- did not see that coming. And I do wonder what's going on in San Francisco that they've got interested in, and whether it's going to come up in future installments.
Also - okay, they're both working with Argent. That might be a problem if the secret gets out.
Tumblr media
Okay. Rahim is also doing his digging, but this concern about his colleagues suddenly 'changing their minds' even when it doesn't make sense, and the attacks he's having - epilepsy or similar, I'm assuming - are...ominous, to say the least.
I do hope I get to make more use of this particular alliance in future - no sense having a public official on-side if you're not going to use him.
Tumblr media
...hm. That's ominous. Project Director - but for what Project? Locus is established as a telepath - is this the Farm? And if so-
Well, that 'prize project' is probably Marlene. That's...not going to end well. Shit.
Tumblr media
...okay, at least Ortega still has some conflicted feelings about this. Thank you very much for the defence, but I was sort of hoping for a longer epilogue.
This is, however, probably going to be bad for the Rangers as a team. And they weren't doing great before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ohhhfuck.
Herald. Daniel, as it turns out. I hadn't thought- But of course it would hit hard, and he's the one person Marlene hasn't had a chance to talk to about this yet. Hasn't had a chance to say that- yes, she regrets it. She resented him then, but she was wrong, she wishes she could take it back - not the museum attack, but how she dealt with him during it.
No idea if she's going to get that chance again, but...I sort of wish I could.
Tumblr media
Ohholyfuck.
Wasn't expecting a repeat, but- The love of her life. Damn. And the way she can't even be angry in the face of how terrified Marlene is, and how certain that this is the end. I just- I am so invested in this, you have no idea.
Tumblr media
...or?
I was sort of expecting that to be it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You have no idea what a temptation the 'joining the bad guys' line was, because villain girlfriends is a hell of an idea even if that's probably not what happening, but- Marlene really isn't in any state for it.
Also - holy shit, I did not see this one coming.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
There's hope for them yet!
Admittedly, Marlene is going to be hunted, and if anyone finds out what Ortega's done here, probably so will she, but-
Still. It's a hell of a nice gesture.

What do we consider in our evaluations?
When Movie Health Community was started in 2015, it was originally intended to be a resource for news about how mild or severe the risks to physical health would be surrounding an individual movie. With the idea that these risks can vary in severity, a concept nobody on the internet had worked with yet, this project was started. In 2017, we expanded into the inclusion of mental health warnings, with a lot of triggers being suggested by our community of readers.
Recently, we’ve had a high influx of new readers. We are endlessly thankful for our readers. For anyone who is new here, or otherwise unfamiliar with what goes into a Movie Health Community evaluation, here is a brief rundown of what we look for.
The main thing we watch for is strobe effects, which are objectively dangerous to moviegoers with photosensitive health issues, including epilepsy, migraines, and multiple other conditions. When we evaluate for the risk of strobe effects, several factors come into play. We look at how harsh the light/dark contrast is between the strobing images, how fast or slow the strobe is, how much of the runtime uses strobe effects, how predictable the strobe effects are, and whether important plot points happen during the strobe effects. None of this is done with any scientific or medical training, but with all of these things considered, it boils down to an attentive person’s best guess.
From the beginning, we have also looked at the motion sickness risks. This was inspired by the warnings posted outside of showings of Cloverfield in 2008, which infamously made many of its watchers motion sick with its shaky found-footage style of filming. With traditionally-animated (not computer animated) films, the motion risk is inherently low, as the camera very rarely moves in any disorienting fashion. Common motion sickness risks include shaky camera work, spinning or orbiting shots, and in the case of sci-fi films, zero-gravity environments. If the sense of up and down is not clear, that is typically a high risk for motion sickness.
The brain is a physical organ, meaning that mental illnesses are physical illnesses. With this in mind, we include mental health warnings just as importantly as other physical health warnings. One of the most common mental health triggers we have to cover is emetophobia (vomit). Acrophobic (heights) triggers are usually included in the motion sickness portion of the evaluation. Inappropriate romantic or sexual activities*, especially those involving a lack of consent for the character on the receiving end, are always included. Anything involving PTSD, whether it be a character suffering from it, or potential triggers for combat veterans, we do our best to include as a warning. One of our readers requested warnings about kidnapping, so we have since included that as a warning when applicable. There are more triggers we look for, but this all boils down to a regular person’s best judgment on what is worth mentioning.
One of the priorities we try to keep is that our evaluations be as spoiler-free as possible. We may share some very minor spoilers if they help the audience know when the strobe effects are about to happen. For example, in our recent evaluation of Book Club (2018), we mentioned that the one scene with strobe effects starts immediately after someone gets angry while driving. If we need to include a major spoiler, we do what we can to mitigate the risk of seeing unwanted spoilers. On Tumblr, we tag our posts accordingly. On Facebook, we make sure that a spoiler warning is visible immediately, with any potential spoilers below the “see more” option.
We recognize that this is a bit of a long read, but we hope this is helpful to know what exactly we do here.
*Some readers may consider depictions of LGBT+ romances inappropriate. We do not. We treat LGBT+ romances the same as cis/het romances, and whatever is inappropriate for cis/het couples remains inappropriate for cis/het couples.
