Kipo Season 2 Thoughts!

-Wolf smiles a LOT in this Season, at least moreso than usual, and I’m living for it! Maybe one day I’ll make a “Smiles I want to protect” montage, but it’s just every shot of Wolf smiling...

-I have to wonder, is Fun Gus a result of the lab experiments as well, or did he just sort of move in after the place was blown open by Song?

-Emilia though... Ugh. Not really much else to say about her. She talks big about humans having built an empire or whatever, but she also seems to conveniently forget that it was humans who also brought it down. Or, not- Maybe Mutes deliberately had an uprising, but still. I wondered if we’d have Human characters who are very pro-human, but at the cost of Mutes as a result... I guess we got them, and in the form of a genocidal jerk!

-The Rats were my favorite Mute group followed by the Umlaut Snakes, so OF COURSE the show had to mess with me by having Scarlemagne attack them! Thankfully, Brad and Amy made it out alive and good, but I’m still depressed over them! Ratland was THEIR dream- Which confirms they were in charge, but also we saw other background rats? WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM??? But hey, at least Brad and Amy are okay, I just wish they got their Goat Cheese! Maybe they can make a NEW Ratland from the ruins of Aurum, that’d be fitting! Also the Umlauts are fine, although I didn’t see one of them... I think she was the one voiced by a famous celebrity? That’d explain the absence, guest voices can be hard to reprise. However...

-DANG, I did NOT expect the Mod Frogs to die like that! After Brad and Amy got away fine, I just... YIKES. I knew Scarlemagne was going to be upset at them for messing with his family, and in his own house no less, but... OOF. RIP to those frogs, they shall be missed- Really, I was just thinking about how much I enjoyed the designs and vibes of them before, y’know... Jamack really dodged a bullet there, huh? And talk about MESSED UP... The Mod Frog Boss got to choose her own place in Aurum, and that’s why she and the others were there before everyone else! That blessing by Scarlemagne led to a Butterfly’s effect of their horrific execution, I just... It’s messed up, especially knowing that their bodies are forever buried under who knows HOW many karats of gold?!

-I realized that the Goats adopted a reverence for Cheese because Goats have their milk used to make cheese (as well as other culinary purposes), but like... It didn’t really SINK IN that it was their milk until Dave asked. Brilliant way to end THAT episode, I tell you!

-Back to Wolf... WE GOT TO SEE HER SING! We saw her make Stalky! RIP Stalky... hopefully she makes a new one- Possibly from that same Death Stalker she beat, though I’m not sure if it’s still alive? Regardless, it was a TREAT to see more backstory for her, and how she learned to fight off the Death Stalkers, and then chose to attack one for its stinger! Anyhow, I need to hear her sing Heroes on Fire at least... TWELVE more times after this!

-Did NOT see that twist over the masked figures being the ones to put the collar on Song, not Scarlemagne! One might say that the show is ‘predictable’ in some ways, but in those ways that predictableness FEELS good and proper! Like how an actual story should go... At the same time, KatAoW still saves its genuine twists for what really matters!

-Love the usage of Mulholland by the way, glad to see the friendships made along the way have paid off! I wonder if he’ll be used to help Song speak to Kipo and Lio more! Also, it was weird to see some Fitness Raccoons boo Kipo and Co. while at Cappuccino’s place, but I guess the animators just needed some background variety.

-And, hey! Cappuccino has a fun design, although it feels awkward since I’ve just recently eaten shrimp... Although I HAVE recently visited some brunch places, so I can still appreciate her cafe!

-Did not expect the potential plot thread of Kipo losing control and hurting others as a Mega-Jaguar. I was legit concerned when she almost went for the kill on Gerard, and I love how Wolf, who is very much survival of the fittest, still respects and admires Kipo’s compassion to save her from doing that!

-Good for Jamack, by the way, getting the fame he also desired with those The-Otters! On a small note, I love the gag of the whole gang being unmasked, before we see one Otter, because then you remember that there was that one dude who was also in a costume! Pretty surreal seeing the gang play caricatures of themselves, in COSTUMES of themselves...!

-Zane and Greta are himbos, they’re total Kronks. Not much else to say, I just like that about them! I’ve seen TWO buff, himbo ladies working for the bad guys by Dreamworks -Scorpia and Greta- and I’m down for more!

-It was ADORABLE seeing Mandu try to mimic the tusks of those Boar-Mutes, and how they low-key were encouraging Mandu as well?

-Also, will Kipo’s community NOT LISTEN TO EMILIA SHUT UP YOU’RE THE WORST CHARACTER NOW I WAS WILLING TO GIVE SCARLEMAGNE A CHANCE BUT THEN YOU-

-Dave is apparently so immortal that he can survive being blown apart from the inside? Those Bats made a point that I’d become desensitized to, but... He really IS the weirdest character now that I think about it!

-Poor Kipo, each season ends with her thinking her journey is over, only for someone else to come in and change the current objective after the previous one was fulfilled! Give Kipo a break, dang it!

Unpopular Opinion Maybe: Kipo had an Identity Crisis in S1

More and more I honestly get bothered when people are all like “ooh Kipo wasn’t affected by being a mega mute lab experiment due to her parents experimenting on her it’s so refreshing compared to other cartoons LOL” because it’s completely glossing over season 1 where Kipo absolutely freaked out over her body suddenly physically changing and suddenly looking like a mute for no apparent reason. Tad Mulholland gave her a dream that was largely about this, Wolf almost left her over this. Kipo was absolutely affected by this, it absolutely caused an identity/existential crisis for her, it absolutely freaked her out.

Kipo absolutely freaked out when her body started growing fur and exhibiting other extreme physical changes and showed indications she was somehow suddenly changing into a mute for no apparent reason. (This in no way indicates she ever harbored serious anti-mute feelings. This is literally about her body suddenly physically changing for no apparent reason.) So much of Tad Mulholland’s dream reflects her anxiety and yes, angst, about these sudden physical changes. Kipo’s allowed to get upset when her body suddenly starts physically changing and she has no idea why; and it’s happening on top of an already stressful situation where she’s separated from her father and the rest of her people in a world that’s still brand new to her and filled with as many dangers as wonders, etc. Kipo again has angst, or is reasonably upset over the whole thing when Wolf realizes she seems to be part mute and seemingly lied about it, and apparently rejects her for it; Kipo pours out her sadness and frustration and emotional turmoil to Jamack, who comforts her, and of course Jamack couldn’t comfort her if Kipo wasn’t upset or had angst and an identity crisis.

Kipo’s not automatically a cheerful sunflower all the time. She’s largely positive because she makes a concentrated effort to be (for example, Kipo does seem tired and ready to leave Jamack, but she decides to go back for him). Kipo’s an actual character with feelings and should be allowed to experience all emotions, even angst, because she should be allowed to get upset.

The only “refreshing,” actually different thing about this is the order--Kipo freaked out and had an identity crisis and angst when she got signs of an extreme change in her body before she learned the truth behind why this was happening.

I’d argue Kipo’s reaction is more about being so relieved to finally get some kind of answer for why her body’s been physically changing that she doesn’t try to challenge it too much, and that she’s also in denial about the gravity of the situation when she gets the revelation about what her parents did to her, and she also ends up pressured by time crunch/emergencies and just pushes her actual feelings over this aside because there’s no time. Kipo learns what her parents did to her, and then has a like a week to save her dad and her people before Scarlemagne’s coronation. Kipo really doesn’t have time to fully process the revelation; she has to focus more on using her mega mute jaguar powers for the practical use of saving her father and people, not actually take the time to really consider how she really feels about them and what her parents did to her.

And even when she’s just focused on practically using her mega mute jaguar powers, Kipo is in fact stressing and angsting over it. She may say she’s fine and express enthusiasm for her mega mute jaguar abilities and act impressed with what her parents did, but her mega mute jaguar abilities do adversely affect her whether she directly admits it or not. In the Deatherstalker episode, Kipo does show signs of the emotional pressure her mega mute status has put on her; with these mega mute powers, she has the power to help her dad and her people, so she keenly feels she has to, she feels responsible for this and probably feels that there’s no one else she can really turn to fully take this burden (of course she loves her dad and people and wants to protect them, and of course this is an all ages show with a number of kid protagonists, but still, she just turned 13, and lived a pretty normal, safe Burrow life until her home was attacked), and she stresses over suddenly being asked to successfully do a thing she’s never done before; Kipo gets super freaked out when her mega mute powers accidentally hurt Benson; and of course the Chevre Sisters have warned Kipo that she can lose her mind if she fully transforms, and much of the season is devoted to making sure that doesn’t happen. And later Kipo gets a concrete example of that threat when she learns her mother has been entirely absent in her life because she’s lost her mind to a mega mute transformation for 13 years and was also under Emilia’s control. (And while this probably needs its own post, to sum up: a lot of this is also again Song and Lio’s fault because of their experimenting, Song exposed herself to mutation, Emilia’s the worst but it doesn’t seem like she would weaponize Song if Song didn’t turn herself into a mega mute monkey susceptible to puppet pheromones torturously taken from Hugo.)

While it’s nice feeling like you’re seeing something new and refreshing, I feel like sometimes people fall into overly reactionary trends and don’t look at things on an individual basis or think of characters as their own individuals. Maybe people want to think it’s refreshing that Kipo’s not affected or not having angst over being a mute lab experiment due to her parents (but again, she has been affected by this) because they’re comparing this to other cartoons, but what about Kipo as a character herself and the show as its own story?

I also actually think the idea of Kipo getting upset over this makes more sense than many other cartoons and has much more impact, because her situation is actually really severe when you think about what the story’s done so far in terms of events.

I’ll probably do another separate “unpopular opinion” post on this, but to sum up: Lio and Song unnecessarily experimented on baby Kipo without her consent and pushed their own ambitions of “making the surface safe for humans” on her, also without her consent. It was canonically a dangerous experiment because they failed to realize Kipo could’ve lost her mind and been stuck as a mega mute, something that did happen to Song for 13 years; Song was accidentally mutated, and again the side effects were gravely underestimated because Song had a dramatic transformation where she not only lost her mind but destroyed the DNA Burrow, and Kipo could’ve been killed in that accidental rampage (and Hugo/Scarlemagne was literally scarred from it, he suffered literal physical damage from it--which also implies worse than injuries and physical scars could’ve happened).

I’ve read some people essentially say “well, not every cartoon has to get this emotional, it could just be cheerful,” and that just makes me think 1) then a cartoon should be written so that the more 24/7 cheerful tone fits, and 2) there are several cartoons you can already watch that don’t get so emotional. Just deal with the cartoons that do choose to be emotional, because cartoons can have a wide variety.

And I don’t think KATAOW is the place to pull “oh haha she’s not affected by all this even though it’s super messed up because let’s be just different from others and not think about our own story and cast we’ve just gotta go against an apparent so-called trend without laying down the groundwork to actually support that reactionary rejection of an apparent so-called trend.”

And I do really hope and still think that on some level the show is actually gonna pull through and address this and do something really neat. Because while Kipo acts like she’s fine with what her parents did to her, again there was her severe freak-out in season 1 when faced with actual consequences of what they did and with no one to give her any explanation for what the hell was happening, and there are her struggles with her experimental mega mute jaguar side in season 2; and just as importantly, Wolf and Benson seem alarmed by what Lio and Song did. I think that’s critical. Even if Wolf and Benson aren’t explicit about it, it’s pretty clear that they look uncomfortable with what they learn from the Project Kipo notebook, even if they’re more focused on going along with Kipo’s cheer. I just feel like that will be followed up in season 3.

And it’s a 3-season show. Writers have said that they have told a complete story with the show over 3 seasons. I can imagine that in season 3 they’ll follow up on this in some way and better challenge what Lio and Song did and let Kipo finally freak out over what her parents did, as much as she freaked out by herself in season 1.

Because that also gets to me. As things stand now, Lio and Song have avoided the worst of the direct emotional fallout of what they did to Kipo. They did not get to see their daughter have a gradual meltdown over the sudden changes in her body, her confusion and emotional turmoil and fear that her friend-sister Wolf rejected her over the whole thing. Kipo’s only ever acted like “it’s fine” to them about it. And I find that really unfair, especially to Kipo. She should get to be upset, she should get to be upset with her parents and make them better realize the consequences of what they actually did to her. Lio and Song should also just deal with even more consequences.

P.S. I also don’t really buy the half mute/half human as mixed race metaphor because it’s too deeply rooted in scientific experimentation on babies without any possible consent (and Kipo is already actually mixed race with a Black father and a Korean mother), and I have more thoughts on what it’s more about and its potential as a more unique story that’s specifically tied to the world of KATAOW, but I think that’s another post too.

okay okay okay, so something i’ve noticed about kipo and the age of wonderbeasts

So, I was rewatching Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts recently, and I noticed something about the music.

Throughout the show, when two characters are having a truly emotionally vulnerable moment with each other, the instrumental of “What We Have Is You” start playing underneath the scene. It also doesn’t seem to matter if the two people are family, significant others, friends, or otherwise, just that there is a moment of emotional connection between them. It kind of feels like the song can also refer to other forms of love, not just familial as we see Kipo and Lio use it originally.

S1 E9: Jamack and Kipo in the sewers talking about the effect of fear on a person who’s afraid of change/loss

S2 E1: Benson and Troy being cuties together talking about if flapjacks and pancakes are the same or different

S2 E2: Lio and Baby Kipo when they were found by the Cherve Sisters where Kipo felt safe with Lio and retracted her jaguar paw

S2 E5: A flashback of Lio and Song announcing that they’re having Kipo

S2 E6: Lio is actually humming the melody to Baby Kipo with the undertones in the background in another flashback (also hints of it when Song watches as Lio and Kipo escape their old burrow)

S2 E8: Lio and Kipo choosing to not keep secrets from each other anymore after Scarlemagne explains to Kipo his origin story

S2 E9: (this time played in a lower key) After Scarlemagne mind controls Lio where he tells him that he was wrong to have given up on him

S3 E1: Dave and Lio bonding and Lio talking about how Dave is a good friend for helping him keep his mind off of Kipo being in danger

S3 E7: As Benson and Dave finish the story of how they first met. More specifically as Dave says “Don’t let this be your Fan, Kipo.”

S3 E8: VERY briefly after Kipo tells the Mutes that she didn’t sink the boat and after they leave, Scarlemagne and Jamack stand next to her to show support (fun follow up: Jamack’s actually not crossing his arms in this scene like he tends to do when he’s around other people/in earlier episodes. His hands are in his pockets instead, which I think shows how he’s less guarded towards other people/Kipo and her friends and that he’s more confident being a part of the group and being himself around people who he cares for because they care for him in return)

An unpopular opinion: Okay, ready the pitchforks here, but I... actually kinda thought that Wolf and Kipo's dynamic would've worked well if it had been presented as romantic instead? Like, I love all the canon wlw ships, but I feel like so far there hasn't been one that I've personally connected to or been able to get super invested in. But if Wolf and Kipo had been a ship, then that would've become a hardcore fave for me. Though I feel bad about this, since the series made it clear that wasn't how we were supposed to view these two characters. I'm sorry sob

my thoughts: Their dynamic is what carries an already entertaining show. Every time these two are on screen together it's wonderful. They have that perfect balance of genuine feelings, drama, humour and suffering. Like, I struggle to think of another dynamic that's as engaging as Merlin and Arthur are in this series, full stop.

What makes me happy about them: Canon

things done in fanfic that annoys me: I haven't read any fanfics, so I can't really comment, but if there's Gwen-bashing, then I'm not about that.

things I look for in fanfic: Not really a shippy thing, but I genuinely want to read a post-epilogue fic where old!Merlin wakes up Arthur and then drags him along on his wacky adventures.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: I like shipping them both with Gwen and with all of the knights.

My happily ever after for them: Nah, I'm not gonna mess with the perfectly messed up ending they got. No happy ending this time.

Flora Reinhold

How I feel about this character: Flora is fine. And that's about it? I feel bad that the writers treated her badly in every game after the first one, but I also don't have very strong feelings about her, if I'm completely honest.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I don't have any ships for Flora. I used to crackship Flora & Arianna, so maybe that.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Flora & being around people who don't ditch her.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I genuinely don't think they planned anything for Flora beyond the first game. The ending being her leaving the village was a nice gesture, but then it kinda feels like the writers were stuck with her and didn't know what to do with her. Which might be why they kept coming up with excuses to write her out, but I'm just guessing here.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: That she'd been treated more respectfully when she had gone with Layton or, alternately, that she'd stayed at the village and became an awesome robot mechanic with Bruno.

So you’ve mentioned that Jamack has killed people and made it clear that Kwat and Harris likely have also done that, care to elaborate on the specifics of it if you have any? I’m actually super intrigued in these frogs and their violent/ugly side.

Oh absolutely. When I was first making my Jamack mix, I found I had too many violent songs and had to add more normal songs to even it out XD

I’ve always been very much into the idea that despite going through a redemption arc and bonding with the protagonists, Jamack is still, and always has been, a ruthless motherfucker

I mean heck, back in April I had this line in an early draft of The Scorpion and the Frog: Jamack looked away. “You don’t have any blood on your hands yet. I didn’t want you to think you did. You should hold onto that while you can.” He looked back. “Until you can get your hands on Scarlemagne, of course. Can you imagine? Having Scarlemagne as your first kill?” He grinned, his eyes bright.

So yeah it’s a concept I absolutely adore. ANYWAY! The Mod Frogs have influences from 1960s Mod subculture and early 1900s mobsters. Iconic mobsters tended to be sharply dressed, snarky, witty, organized, strict, greedy, and merciless. Sounds like the Mod Frogs to me! And IRL frogs are slippery little killing machines! They hunt and eat just about any living thing that they can stuff in their huge mouths. And that’s not an exaggeration! That’s how they’re described in some scientific texts, because it would take too long to list their prey! Along with the usual bugs and such, frogs have eaten fish, snakes, mice, small birds, and other frogs!

One of IRL frogs’ best strategies for survival is massive amounts of offspring. Which means that their lives hinge on the assumption and acceptance that the majority of their tadpoles won’t make it to adulthood, and that even then, adults get picked off constantly by predators and bad luck

Most species of frog don’t even care for their young. They’re entirely defenseless and most start off eating plantstuff and algae. But once their guts develop enough they’ll eat a wider range including other tadpoles. Yep! They’re cannibals.

And they don’t have any like, social family structures outside of breeding. While primates, canines, felines, and a number of other animal groups help care for not just young, but sick, injured, or elderly members of their community, frogs do none of that.

Even the call they make when in danger is thought to be not a warning to other frogs in the area, but to instead startle the predator and/or attract another bigger predator so that they might be released as the predator gets into a fight or runs away. Frogs have very few behaviors that humans recognize as compassionate

Instead, if a tadpole is slow in growing, they might get picked apart by their bigger siblings when they get hungry. An injured frog is dinner, full stop.

So.

With that in mind, we throw in sapience, a record of human morals, and newly intelligent predators prey neighbors, and you get the Mod Frogs.

Are they objectively more “moral” than their ancestors? You could argue it either way! But they’re still pretty chill about killing

They’ll kill for food, obviously; they’re carnivores. They’ll kill mutes who try to hurt them, because they can do that and have a chance at surviving the encounter now. And albeit on a smaller scale, they still kill each other.

Kwat, Harris, and Jamack have all killed. In battles over territory; you strike hard enough in any fight and that’s a killing blow. And sometimes someone is so big a threat that they’re worth going out of their way to murder. Maybe there’s a personal grudge, or they’ve done something to threaten the whole group. It’s not hard! Toss some toxic sludge in their pond and that’s several generations *snap!* gone. Instantly decimate the Frog population. So you can understand if they’re aggressive about establishing and maintaining their strength and reputation. They can’t afford to have anyone think they’d survive an entanglement with the Mod Frogs

A hypothetical: Cats love fishing, and the pond is perfect for that, but the Timbercats won’t step foot in Mod Frog territory. A while ago some Cats got curious, they went to the pond, maybe they even caught and ate some tadpoles. They look like fish! And the Mod Frogs retaliated. Chased the Cats out, killed one before they could get away, and made a whole production of hunting down the others to set an example. “Don’t mess with us. This is what will happen if you do.”

And they’ll fight over resources too, not just territory

Most local mute packs they can handle in a fight. Cats, Hummingbirds. It gets harder with bigger, stronger mutes, especially if they used to be their natural predators. Wolves and snakes? Difficult. So they’re not all show-of-force, they’re diplomatic too, trading off resources for agreements--like mobsters do! “We could either continue to fight or you’ll agree not to hunt here and we’ll trade any guitars we find and even make repairs.” Course, people go back on deals all the time, which again calls for revenge

I’ve gotten very broad, so before I wrap up I’ll at least describe one kill that each of these three frogs have made:

Jamack: Back when he was at a lower rank, he noticed one of his superiors was abusing his position, making Jamack and his coworkers’ lives hell--which wasn’t a problem in itself, and rather typical--so that he could skim the extra profits off the top for himself, and not tell his own superiors--which was strictly prohibited. So he invited his boss out to see something he said he found and wasn’t sure was valuable, and planned to jump him when he got far enough. The older frog turned first though and pulled a knife on him. Said he noticed Jamack was getting too nosy. They fought, and Jamack won by cracking his boss’ head against a pointy rock

Harris: In a turf war, which the Mod Frogs eventually lost, Harris took down a snake on his own. He fled into an alley, where she thought she had him cornered, but he climbed the wall and pushed over a brick chimney that then landed on her face

Kwat: Choked out an invading Newton Wolf. Yeah. Incidents involving Wolves went down 30% for the following two years

Reacting To: Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts (Season 3 Episode 10)

This is it people! The series finale of Kipo; Let’s get to it.

Episode Title: Age of Wonderbeasts

Spoiler Warning: Kindly proceed if you’ve already seen the episode or are able to handle spoilers

Hopefully she’s getting dressed for her funeral lol

1. Continuing on from last episode, the fireworks rigged with the cure goes off and a bunch of embers start falling from the sky. One of the Humming Bombers got into contact with one of them while attempting to flee and immediately de-mutes. I thought the cure needed to go into their bloodstream? Unless, the ember actually burned through their skin. It that’s the case, wow that’s dark....

It’s awesome that Earl and Lily are helping Molly since Molly saved their children awhile back.

2. With her quick thinking, Kipo asks everyone to find shelter underneath her as she transforms into her Mega Jaguar form. However, that’s still not enough to protect everyone but luckily, the good humans step up to shield them with table cloths, which was heartwarming to see.

The mutes are thanking the humans for their act of kindness

OMG. Lio and Song hugging Scarlemagne? I’m here for it.

3. Thankfully, the fireworks ended and Kipo then pleads with Emilia one last time to stop what she’s doing. Emilia, hard-headed as ever isn’t one to back down at all and makes a drastic decision to inject herself with the mutagen she sourced from the Mega Walrus, transforming herself into one ugly Mega Mute.

Imagine seeing this in real life...shudders

4. I thought she was going to use the Mega Walrus’s DNA to make another cure that would affect Kipo. I didn’t think she would do this to herself. Kipo transforms back to her Mega form to take on Emilia before she could potentially hurt anyone.

How many Troyson kisses do we want? Yes...hehe

5. Troy and Benson are directing everyone back to find safety inside the old burrow while Wolf joins Kipo to assist her in battling Emilia. Kipo has the upper hand at first because Emilia isn’t used to being a Mega Mute. However, as the fight progresses, Emilia is starting to get better and is landing some solid hits on Kipo. But I feel like Kipo shouldn’t be losing to Emilia since she has much more experience fighting as a Mega. I guess they want us to feel like the stakes are high.

Man, this fight is actually pretty brutal. Emilia is whooping major jaguar ass here.

6. During the battle, Wolf notices Greta nearby and thinks that she has the cure to turn back Emilia into a human. So, hopefully they can steal the cure from Greta and use it as leverage to get Emilia to stop. They split up with Wolf going after Greta and Kipo continuing to fight off Emilia.

7. After taking a couple more punches, we see three of the Mega Dogs, the Mega Pigeon and the Mega Beaver heading their way towards the fight, with Jamack, Molly, Hoag, Amy, Zane, Label, Lio, Song, Scarlemagne, Dave, Benson and Mandu riding on them. I stan such supportive friends!

8. They each take turns kicking Emilia’s butt to buy Kipo some time to recover. Side note: It’s so cool that Jamack tells Emilia to do some “soul searching”! That’s literally the same line Kipo used on Jamack in Season 1 when he was an antagonist back then. During all of this, we see Emilia beginning to have some inner turmoil; It looks like she’s starting to lose herself in her current form.

9. We get to round 2 of Wolf vs Greta and it looks like the tables might turn in favor of Wolf but Greta is just too beefy for her to take on. While being held down in a pin, Wolf tries to butter her up with words by telling her that she’s not an idiot and she can think for herself, without the influence of Emilia. She also bribes her with all the pancakes she can eat if she hands over the cure to her and just like that, she agrees to hand it over. It’s so ironic that Greta is one of Emilia’s last followers but she’s so easily influenced to switch sides.

Again, I don’t get why Kipo is losing to Emilia so badly

10. Kipo is down for the count and Emilia turns her attention to her friends/family. As she’s about to crush Lio and Song, Kipo charges in last minute to take the devastating blow for them; She then falls unconscious. However, Emilia’s not done yet.

Scarlemagne’s death in 3...2...1

11. Oh no...here we go. Scarlemagne decides to play hero by making his attempt at saving Kipo. He basically gives his swan song to Lio and Song. I have a bad feeling he’s going to die and I’m not at all prepared to watch. He takes off on his favorite Flamingo vehicle from Season 1 and 2 and flies towards Emilia to distract her.

We haven’t heard this laugh in ages. Also, did anyone get chills when he tells Emilia to “leave her sister alone”?

12. He crashes his vehicle into Emilia causing her to lose focus and it sets off her ‘losing herself to the mega mute’ phase. This in turn, causes Scarlemagne to crash land somewhere in Skyscraper Ridge. Was it necessary for him to crash like that? If that’s the way he goes out, I’m gonna be honest here and say I would be very disappointed with that.

13. Emilia, who clearly is out of it runs off somewhere and Kipo, Wolf, Dave, Benson and Mandu all go after her with Lio and Song heading towards where Hugo/Scarlemagne crash landed. We then see the artistic representation of Emilia losing her mind to the mute, where her human form is quickly sinking deeper and deeper into the ocean.

14. They catch up to Emilia and they could see her being distraught. We also know the reason why she’s this way and it’s because she doesn’t have an anchor. I love it how whatever explanation we’re being told by the characters is something that the audience should know based on past episodes. Now that’s good storytelling.

15. Anyways, Kipo makes the decision to cure her because she thinks she doesn’t deserve to be punished this way. Really now? After all that she’s done? Maybe what Kipo means is that she deserves get whopped in her human form lol. After curing her, Kipo makes ANOTHER ATTEMPT (for the 3rd time) to convince her to make a change but of course this bitch isn’t going to change; She takes a shard of glass and tries to stab Kipo:

16. But our girl, Mandu quickly reacts and bites Emilia’s arm. She then loses her balance and falls stories high in the exact burrow her lab was located because we then see Fun Gus capturing her and taking her in as her “playdate”. Emilia is basically history.

17. Yesss! And this punishment is fitting since she will probably be Fun Gus’s plaything till she goes insane and dies. Not to mention she despises mutes. So, it’s a great way for her to go out. Bye!!! That’s what you get for killing your brother, you heartless monster. Can I also point out that once again, Mandu is the one to take out Emilia. She did beat her in season 2 when Wolf, Dave and Benson couldn’t and now in season 3, she’s the one to finish the job. Don’t mess with Mandu lol.

18. They head back to find where Scarlemagne, Lio and Song are but it’s almost too late because Hugo is dying. Kipo is in tears and I’m in tears too. Again, was it really necessary to kill him off? I felt like he’s more or less already redeemed as a character before this. He didn’t have to commit such a heroic act, which had cost his life. Ugh....And just like that, Hugo dies.....UGHHHHHH. I really don’t think he needed to die. If Catra (who committed just as many heinous acts, if not more than Hugo) got to live in She-Ra & The Princesses of Power, Hugo deserves to live too. I’m sorry...

19. Now it’s time for the epilogue set 5 years later, as told by an older Kipo. Let’s break it down:

Wolf’s Mega Corgi gave birth to a litter of puppies. Awww cuteness...

Wolf let her hair grow out and she looks AMAZING!!! Dayummmm

Benson and Troy own a successful restaurant together and they’re living the dream. Such domestic goals!

I got chills seeing Wolf and Benson walking side by side like that. They’ve grown up so much. It looks like they’re own their way to a picnic

Label and Zane is also running a gym together. Sweet!

Jamack is conductor for Las Vistas’s new transport system.

Dave is now a guest lecturer at what is seems to be Lio and Song’s new research lab, where he talks about some of his research findings and theories. Well, mostly theories.

I love Kipo’s new do’

20. We find out that Kipo is updating Hugo (spiritually) what has everybody been up to on his birthday.

Hugo gets a statue made in his honor, which is very fitting and Mandu...WOW MANDU has grown into an ADULT boar, with tusks and everything just like Bornak and Webber.

21. Kipo meets up with her besties and her family and they have their wonderful picnic in commemoration of Hugo’s birthday.

22. The scene cuts off to all of them having the time of their life riding on their Mega mutes. And that’s the official ending to the series. TEARS...

23. This has been an amazing show to watch, react and review. I can’t believe it only had 30 episodes but the story was so cohesive and felt complete on the most part. So you could say that this show wrapped up nicely. There are some loose ends that weren’t addressed/resolved at the end like the vaccine that Song and Lio were working on but I guess that could be something that’s explored further in future films hopefully.

24. I can’t wait for all of you to watch them. And finally, I want to thank you all for reading my episodic reviews and going on this incredible journey with me. Things I love about ‘Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts’

(spoilers ahead, including for the S3 finale)

How the reveal about Wolf’s backstory adds depth to her introductory scene, where she’s checking if Mandu can talk because “I’m no barbarian. If a mute can talk, it’s not chow.” You get the impression from the start that Wolf’s nearly been eaten, but the exact details make it even more upsetting and demonstrate why it’s so important to her that this is a line she Will Not Cross. (Which also links into how she breaks out of the hallucination when Fake Kipo suggests eating the talking ram.)

Accurate portrayal of a hive-mind with Tad Mullholland. There are many tardigrades but a singular consciousness.

Dave is probably a mutated cockroach, what with the whole ‘immortality’ gag.

Benson and Troy. They’re adorable, and Troy’s dad thought it was so cute how Benson was trying to impress him, and Troy gets character development independent of their relationship despite being introduced to the show to be Benson’s love interest, and ... look, these boys gave me a new standard for telling whether any cartoon Teen Romance Subplot is well-written, okay? Also, having a canonical gay relationship means that I can appreciate Kipo and Wolf’s sisterly relationship for what it is, instead of feeling like a censor threw the ‘sister’ thing in there to deny any potential romantic subtext.

Possibly the funniest interrogation scene ever, despite the dramatic stakes: “Or else what?” “Or else no pancakes.”

I actually have mixed feelings about this one but I think I get it: From Lio and Song’s old experiments with Hugo, they probably could find a way to re-mutate the various mutes that Emilia “cured” - but they don’t, probably in-story because they don’t know if they’d still be the same people after getting re-mutated, and out-of-story because one of the points of the narrative is that “you don’t have to undo a bad thing that happened in order to get a happy ending.”

Yumyun Hammerpaw and Molly Yarnchopper and all the Timbercats are just so much fun to watch.

Ratland! Also its backstory. (I kind of want an AU where Emilia’s brother - Liam? Leon? - gets away from her alive and ends up living and working in Ratland, and either Kipo and Benson meet him there in the birthday episode or he becomes a character after Scarlemagne trashes the park.)

Fun astronomy trivia! I can now remember how long a parsec is relative to a lightyear.

Well-crafted arcs showing how various characters change their opinions about humans or mutes (depending on the characters’ species) and revise their goals accordingly. Special mention to Jamack, who got the longest on-screen arc.

Even about relatively minor things, nobody changes their mind about something arbitrarily - there is always some thread of motivation for the audience to follow.

Repeated reminders, narratively and in dialogue, that despite all their competencies, the main characters are kids.

When Wolf is considering a new outfit for Prahm, she tries on the same ruffled multi-coloured ballgown Kipo considered when looking for a ‘surface human’ outfit in the first episode.

The various creative ways the animators would have Kipo’s name appear on-screen (plant growth, shattered pieces of something, negative space, sometimes in graffiti or on an old label) right before cutting to the title card. I think the only episode that didn’t do that was the one where the camera zooms into the pupil of the MegaMonkey’s eye so everything goes black before the title card appears.

On Season 3

Ok so I’m trying to figure out what to say about season 3 first because I’m filled with a lot of thoughts and feelings right now. It was simultaneously not as bad as I feared and still very disappointing. While there were several really great things that it gave us (mute kids, Dave and benson backstory, wolf and scarl bonding, etc), i also feel it fell far short of the first two seasons narratively. Much of it just doesn’t make sense in the context of the world and characters established in the first two seasons.

The most important thing I think was missing from season three is season-long character arc. Seasons 1 and 2 were largely driven by the personal arcs of the recurring characters of each season (Kipo, Wolf, Benson, Dave, Jamack in 1, Scarl in 2, Lio and Song retroactively in 2).

Season 3 lacks this force. The closest we get to it is a rushed and rather hollow ending to Scarlemagne’s season two arc. No one else fundamentally changes from the beginning of the season to the end. Kipo’s philosophy is challenged mid season but is restored in the same episode. Wolf has to spend time with Margot again, but because she’s already done her found family and community belonging arcs in the prior seasons this encounter doesn’t do anything but bring up old trauma- and then there’s no resolution anyway because Wolf doesn’t even know what happens to Margot afterwards. The closest Benson gets to an arc is asking Troy to PRAHM, but they’re already dating and went through the confidence building part of that in season 2 (and again this only spanned one episode, which doesn’t compare to the first two seasons). Dave doesn’t change. Lio and Song don’t change (song coming back doesn’t count, it’s the Who part that matters, not the body). Jamack doesn’t change because his decision not to help Kipo has just been handwaved away. We get backstory for Emilia (which wasn’t necessary) that didn’t develop her in any meaningful way.

The only sort of changes are among background characters who are mostly props for the primary characters to play off of. While the arcs of background characters are important and have always been critical to the show, without arcs for the primary characters the show doesn’t have the same heart and power that it had in seasons 1 and 2.

I don’t want this to come across as me saying I’m done with Kipo because I’m absolutely not, all I’ve done for the last two days is scream about it, and I plan to keep going for the foreseeable future. I still love this world and these characters. I think they deserved a better end to their story. As always, when canon disappoints, it just means we should make it our own.

Anyway!

Binge watched Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts Season 2 today and y’all it was sooooo good!!

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

I was gonna do a cut off but... I can’t be bothered getting my laptop sooo...

LONG POST TOO!!! Plus I have enough spoiler tags I think...

First of all... Scarlemagne = Mojo-jojo but with actual redemption arc potential???

They really set homie up as the biggest bad and then the twist mystery that Lio and Scarlemagne are connected at the end of S1... but then every much like The Storm from ATLA, we just DEEP-DIVED into Scarlemagne aka HUGO’s backstory and you’re like “well shit, no fucking wonder he got so damn twisted and hating on humans”

And yknow what even with his convoluted thinking and the terrible things he’s done, I’m really really glad they didn’t go down the whole “I blame Kipo bc I’m jealous she took Lio and Song’s attention away from me and that’s why they left me behind” story line... it’s absolutely fascinating that at no point does Scarlemagne blame Kipo, and even looks at her as a sister... like his line “you’re not the one who rejected me” was so powerful, bc he recognises she was just an innocent baby and sees the same confused child in her that he was when he was left alone on the surface... and twisted though his attempts of making her happy were, he was really reaching out for someone who genuinely cares about him again, and it helps that she’s also the daughter of the two people he once viewed as parental figures... and also Kipo’s just naturally empathetic and sees the good in people...

Then she was willing to sacrifice her humanity for a stadium full of mutes and Lio pulled him out of danger... so I’m reaaaallly hoping they keep this potential redemption going... bc really Hugo and Kipo are perfect mirrors of each other... very Zuko/Aang reminiscent... Hugo the animal experiment that was given human hopes and dreams and abilities, only to be thrust into a confusing and scary place with strange powers, and seemingly betrayed by the people he loves most... Kipo, the human experiment, with typical hopes and dreams but is forced into a confusing and scary place with strange powers, and finds out her whole birth and life has been a lie...

One of them just came out of it better...

Secondly... Kipo’s inner Mega-Jaguar scene = Naruto and the Nine-Tails Fox???

Like slowly learning to control the little bits of power that sneak through... being able to change between forms at will provided there is something anchoring her human half... that whole water/mirror/internal Jaguar sequence?!?!... USING THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP TO GET A GRIP ON HER HUMANITY?!?!

ACCESSING AN EVOLVED FORM OF HERSELF WHISLT THINKING OF THE PEOPLE SHE WANTED TO SAVE?!?!

Yo if that ain’t Naruto idk what is...

Next we have Mom the Monkey...

Wasn’t too hard of a leap to figure out... I probably clocked into it maybe mid ep 1?? Idk what triggered it but yeah don’t think that was meant to be a difficult leap to make... that aside, I like that they didn’t have Song immediately change back or have her wits about her when Mulholland helped free her from the pheromones... she’s been a monkey for 13 years, under the control of Dr Emilia, she hasn’t spoken and she didn’t have little moments to control her powers like Kipo... so figuring out how to change her back is a good ongoing mission to have I think... it also makes the fact that Kipo was the one to get through to her in the first place even more powerful and that’s SO dope...

Lio... yknow what when grown ups in these types of stories have regrets and the children are dealing with their consequences it can be very frustrating... but I like that Lio is more than willing to reflect on his past mistakes (valid tho it was that he had no choice but to grab Kipo and run before Emilia could get to her) and is also willing to ACT ON IT...he gives Kipo’s ideas a chance and its even shown for real when Scarlemagne forced him to tell the truth... Hugo was a child he raised and he doesn’t want to leave him behind anymore... even if he’s done so much bad... I’m also glad they showed Kipo expressing disappointment in her fathers actions, empathy for Hugo’s pain, but that didn’t mean she was suddenly disillusioned to her father and what kind of person he is... that can also be a very frustrating aspect of these types of plot lines...

Benson and his darling potentially mutual crush, Troy? What else can i say but beautiful first awkward teen crush PERFECTION! Both of them blushing when Benson ended up on top of Troy after tackling Troy out of the way of a rampaging Pierre? Troy kissing him on the cheek? Troy helping Benson out of the pit and the same falling in love music playing while Benson gazed up at Troy?? TROY AND BENSON HOLDING HANDS WHILE SCARED AND CLINGING TO EACH OTHER?!?!?

TROY BEING AT LEAST PARTIALLY (Latino? Hispanic?) MEANING EVEN MORE POC CHARACTERS AS MAINS LIKE HECK YEAH!!!

Sidenote: a good chunk of the music is like... “rap” music and they always hit during fight scenes and it’s great...

Also: the Kipo title sequence? A bop we must never forget...

SPEAKING OF BOPS WE MUST NEVER FORGET: Heroes on Fire... a karaoke classic I must learn... used with the Power of Friendship can turn a mega mute back to human...

Also also my love and life Jamack??? Continuing to help Kipo out even if he’s a total tsundere about it?!?! LITERALLY CANNOT STOP HIMSELF FROM HELPING HER?!?! I love him... and I want him to join the gang... so bad...

ALSO. The whole second episode was basically about cheese.

Feta. Gouda. Chevre. Fromage.

Idk about that whole... Soothsayer meets the Grey Sisters (Greek mythology? Three sisters, one eye, one tooth? Is that what they’re called?) business with the cheese but whatever it was fun... they were just straight up tossing knives at Kipo to get her latent powers to activate and that was hilarious... also Mr Miyagi moment I guess XD but it means Kipo’s created a whole brain pathway between Herbs in/Herbs out and how she controls her powers and she even mentions that...

Also mega bummed about Ratland burning down...

I also wanna know what was up with the sentient Fun Gus and why it had the mind of a child...

FINALLY: our new big bad - Dr Emilia...

WHAT COMPLETELY TOOK ME BY SURPRISE WAS IT WASNT SCARLEMAGNE WHO PUT HER UNDER HIS CONTROL BUT FRIGGEN THESE CLOAKED HUMANS...Monkey Mom wasn’t a surprise but THAT sure was

We’re really leaning into the one race supremacy theme here huh? But also the reckless and callous treatment of animals and the earth by humans... without regard for how they feel... and after mutating and having and being able to communicate their thoughts and feelings and dreams, Emilia still thinks it would be better to remove that and return them to just animals...

Fascinated to see where they go from here...anyway... go watch Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts so we can get a season 3 babeyyyyy

*peeks in and slides a couple of cans of explosion berry sodas your way* can i uh get something with Jamack and a short reader? Like smol and ready to fight for their friends constantly, especially if the kids are at risk or in danger cause they act like a big {heh} sibling to them. Just wondering and i hope you have an amazing rest of your year and start of your new year!

You're gonna kill him. Really you are. Here you are small fragile thing and yet you jump into dangerous situations like it's nothing. When he croaks over and dies it's going go be because of YOU.

You're just like Kipo. No you're worse than Kipo because at least Kipo can turn into the jaguar. You? You just jump into danger with no plan and he knows you love these kids. He does too. But do you have to be so wreckless??? Are you trying to d i e?

As he's untying you, you don't seem to see anything wrong with this situation.

He frowns at you crossing his arms as you shrug the now untied ropes off. Standing up without his help he taps his foot upset. You look at him confused and he huffs. When you say nothing his eye begins twitching.

"What?" He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath.

"What have I said about going into Newton Wolf territory? Especially alone?What if you died? What if I didn't get here on time?" He begins quietly berating you as he glances around for the Wolves. You swallow and look away rubbing at your arm as he continues scouring for danger.

"We needed the supplies." Bless your stupid love filled and trusting heart. You always though everything was going to be okay, that you could do anything and everything was possible. But Jamack had seen the darker part of this world and as amazing as you were, one of these days something bad would happen to you if you weren't careful. "... I'm sorry..." You mumble. Jamack pauses shifting to look at you. You did genuinely look remorseful.

Closing his eyes he counts in his head to keep from yelling at you.

Sighing he gently takes your hand. Looking up at him he smiles stroking your cheek before bending down and picking you up bridal style. Squeaking he chuckles. That time he scares you!

Squatting with a small smirk he jumps out of the library window and begins hopping back to camp. You cling to him hiding in his dress shirt as he jumps onto a tree and begins to hops from branch to branch.

"... Hey Jamack?" Humming as he concentrates on getting away you hold him tighter. He slows a bit and looks down at you. "I love you." You mumble.

Sighing he gently puts his head to yours. "I love you too." You'd be the death of him but for love? He'd die again and again.

What do you think the Oak family's reactions would be to Kipo bringing home a date for the first time. Particularly Hugo and Wolf?

Holding the flowers you picked and the glitter covered card you made you smile as you knock on Kipos door. There's a long pause and you shift nervously. Smiling you pull at your hair to make sure it's perfect and tug at your clothes so they look nice before someone answers the door. Holding the flowers and card close you smile.

"Oh Wolf. Hi! Ummm... Is Kipo ready? Can I come in?" Swallowing you don't mean to be so talkative but your just so nervous. You knew Wolf and the rest of her family of course but things had been so busy you never got properly acquainted.

With all the excitement latley it'd been hard to get to know Kipos new friends from the surface. It was also hard to admit you had feelings for Kipo. It took almost loosing her for you to finally admit you liked her. Thinking back it's kind of a miracle you can stand here with flowers for her right now.

I mean your burrow got destroyed and Kipo dissapeared which kinda made talking to her hard, then there was Emilia telling you Kipo was bad after the whole Scarlemagne incident, then all the Humfa stuff when you escaped the crew ship, never getting to ask her to Phram cause she was so busy planning it, and after that it was just always hard to catch her.

Smiling as Wolf opens the door grunting you step inside. Kipo was going to pick you up but it was Valentine's Day and you wanted to surpise her.

"Ahhhh so you must be the illustrious (Y/N). Kipo hasn't stopped raving about you." Blushing at the thought of Kipo talking about you, you turn and see Kipos older brother Scarlemagne.

"Oh hi." You still were a little nervous to be around him since he did control you by force for awhile but you'd seen him change. Kipo had changed him. She did that. "Oh uhhhhh..." Placing the flowers on the table you take out two cards. "There not as elaborate or special as the one I made for Kipo but I still made one for everyone and I hope you think their nice." Holding out a card for Scralemagne he pauses before taking it. Wolf has been side eyeing you this whole time and you swallow holding out the one you'd made for her.

You can already tell they don't like you. It's not so much you as them wanting to keep Kipo happy and safe but you felt a tad insulted that after everything you'd done for Kipo even before you confessed they'd still think your not good enough. You guess it was fine though. You'd win them over in time.

"I ummmm... got really nice flowers for Kipo." You state. "And we'll be home by dark. Uhhh are Lio and Song here?" You ask looking for the parents. Song and Lio were a little less intense than Kipos siblings.

"Is a mute not good enough for you?" Scralemagne responds opening your card with a deadpan expression. Glancing at Wolf hoping for help the girl gives you none as she holds the card looking confused. Sighing you close your eyes to summom strength.

"Scarle-" Pausing you shake your head gripping Kipos card. No. He wasn't that person anymore. Kipo had helped him and you weren't going to let that go unnoticed. "Hugo." You say slowly. "That's not what I meant." Taking a calming breath you stare at Hugo and Wolf. They cared about Kipo but so did you. You were not getting scared off. You were here to stay.

Watching Scarlemagnes expression as he reads your card he pauses eyes widening. Looking up at you he hums.

"The world is so full of a number of things, I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings. Robert Lewis Steveson." Looking down unsure if that was something you should have quoted he laughs. Snapping your head up shocked Hugos laughing.

"What's so funny?" Kipo questions coming down from her room. "OH MY GOD (Y/N)!" Eyes turning pink, purple furr surrounds you as your girlfriend pulls you in for a famous Kipo Jagaur hug.

"Nothing. Your partners here..." Hugo says with a roll of his eyes. Chuckling he tucks the letter you wrote into his jacket and you take that as a good sign. "Is well read and knows a good joke." Smiling at him Wolf looks at her own card giving a small smile before looking back up nodding at you.

"Oh awesome! So glad you get along!" Kipo cheers smiling. Smiling back she kisses your cheek. Blushing brighter than her eyes she laughs. "Ready?" She questions. Nodding a bit dazed at how amazing she is, Kipo pulls you out the door as Hugo and Wolf wave goodbye.

You swear you hear Hugo muttering about Kings and rulers and how it means nothing without family before the door shuts but as Kipo transforms you can't bring yourself to think of it. Holding onto her furr and her Valentine's card you feel the wind blow through your hair as you hang on.

"HAPPY VALENTINES KIPO!" You shout as she roars running to where you'd told her to go.

Kipo season 3 thoughts and Spoilers

I've never really made a post so i dont know how to cut it, but DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN KIPO. SPOILERS. I love Kipo sooooo much! It's without a doubt the best show ever! And my absolute favorite 💖 I thought it was near perfect and the first 8 or so episodes were amazing but not gonna lie... the ending wasn't perfect. There were things i was expecting and things i wanted in season 3. 1. No mutes getting cured (or if they did, they get turned back to normal) 2. A Dave and Benson back story 3. More about Wolf as well 4. Scarlemagne/Hugo getting a happy ending 5.Emilia getting what she deserves (Death/Taken down) 6.Kipo family happy together 7. More Troy, Asher, Dahlia and Lio 8. Hugo getting to forgive Lio and living together as a family 9. More of the mute clans like Yumyan, Jamack, and Label 10. A non rushed, put together ending What i didn’t like about the season is some problems i have with the above. 1. When Lio and Song see Emilia angry at losing to Kipo, they have tons of supplies for the antidote but in the rest of the episodes the cure is never mentioned again or what happened to it. (Also i don't believe that they wouldn't be able to reverse it, seeing how the have kipo dna and the cure to use to make the antidote) 2. I thoughy the Dave and Benson backstory was really.... weird. I thought it was a made up story by Dave at first and it still seems like it to me? 3. Wolf and Margot never see each other again??? Wolf doesn't really get much time to talk about it either but she gets good character development 4. Every scene with Hugo was soooo good. It was going so well. Emilia torturing him was never brought up or how he was used as a slave for her and he deserved to get revenge on her. To get a happy ending more than anything. The whole sacrifice thing is over done and made no sense. He crashed and suddenly isn't alright? He's a super srrong mutant mandril?? His fight at the end of season 2 probably hurt more, right??? 5. I thought Emilia was done very well and i thought the ending for her was good. But there are people evil and unwilling to change and don't deserve to live. Kipo almost sees that but in the end, almost foolishly, even after her mother tells her what a monster she is, doesn't really treat her like the threat she is??? 6. I loved every second they got together and wished there were more episodes just so they could get even more scenes 😿 7. Every scene with Troy was amazing. He was a super great side character who got the time and scenes he deserved! But i feel like Asher and Dahlia were wayyy to in the background. 8. Lio promised to save Hugo from Emilia and watched her torture him and all the problems from season 2 weren't really brought up. Hugo and Lio and Song deserved more scenes together and a scene where they really got to talk to him. 9. This was great, seeing all the mutes together but when Kipo failed them, i felt like they shouldn't have forgiven her so easily...especially with the friends they lost not being turned back for some reason??? Overall for me... 10. The ending felt rushed. And Hugo's death 100% ruined the ending for me. Suddenly with the time skip and right after the somewhat anticlimactic fall of Emilia... i just couldn't get over how dirty they did Hugo and couldn't really focus on the "Happy ending" scene. Kipo fought for the world where everyone can live together peaceful and as friends but without Hugo, it didn't feel right. I feel like a few more episodes or even another season could have fixed all of this.... kipo whyyy is it over 😿
