I’m sorry I’m looking at her tattoos and
IS SHE A FOLLOWER OF THE TRAVELLER
Edit: I’m looking again and I think the one on her chest is just an already popular tattoo design that Jester played off of when she was getting her own tattoo but there I have no doubt that Deni$e would have gone to Traveler Con if possible

ok i’m sorry are you trying to imply that the dragons aren’t sexy?????? simply couldn’t be me
I'm saying Vorugal isn't sexy!
Vorugal is a bulldog of a beast with a family wreath who couldn't even do his date the decency of telling her about his dayjob (being Thordak's lapdog).
Is this the dragon we're gonna call sexy??? Surely you jest
Tumblr media
Look at him. Literally the small crusty-eyed white dog of dragons. He's also probably got cold feet and is shit to cuddle with and, eurg, look at those lipless jaws. His teeth must stink wretchedly.
You want to go full Bard and seduce a dragon? By all means! But raise your standards a smidge 😤

The last of the Chroma Conclave, the ancient green dragon Raishan. The head started based as a meanier dilophosaurus thingy and I'd like to think the crest is retractable. Also I added some kind of goose tongue because those beast have the meaniest tongues in nature. Voiced by Matthew Mercer on @criticalrole and by Cree Summer in The Legend of Vox Machina.

I've always been curious if there was some preexisting reason Percy was Evil Entity Bait. (Besides the meta reason of Taliesin getting a kick out of that stuff.) Did Percy I or II anger something? Does his soul have a blinking neon sign on it that says "free real estate"?
For Orthax it's more that Percy was an ideal easy target; little to no mental defenses so it would be easy to worm into his mind, but also clever enough to bring enough bad things into the world to be worth it.
Craven Edge seems to figuratively smell Percy's blood in the water. Like the sword can tell he's metaphorically injured after Orthax. It tries over the week Percy sleeps with it under his bed to persuade him into using it.
The Githyanki Skull is where it becomes obvious there is some kind of tell these sorts of entities can sense in him. That skull basically could have had Grog with a slight bit more pressure, but it still specifically asked for Percy. Maybe the skull though he was a better catch or would have an easier time impersonating Percy until it got away?
While it never goes far, there are even some vibes that Raishan might have had some designs on Percy. In D&D 5e green dragons like to collect ... well ... lets consult the Monster Manual: "A green dragon's favored treasures are the sentient creatures it bends to its will, including significant figures such as popular heroes, well-known sages, and renowned bards."
When Percy is making a deal with Ipkesh he asks about it. "Does it show here? Can you see?" Being in the middle of the Nine Hells that's probably a smart thing to know; is it something that could be an advantage or is it something that would attract unwanted attention.
All things considered in the last arc of the campaign I was shocked Vecna didn’t try to shoot his shot with Percy.

It's nearing the end of February, Black History Month, so we're presenting a handful of articles for characters played or voiced by black actors. This is not a complete list but a small selection featuring our best articles:
Shakäste, played by Khary Payton. Under the name Hush, he is a member of the Golden Grin, a secret organization and community that pursues ideals of freedom and justice.
Reani, played by Mica Burton. She makes sure that evil dies in Uthodurn as the not-so-anonymous Ivae'ess, the Lightbringer, and with the advice of her aasimar guide Samliel.
Laerryn Coramar-Seelie, played by Aabria Iyengar. Laerryn is the Heirophant Abjura of the Abjuration Guild and Architect Arcane of Avalir. She built the Astral Leywright so that Avalir may travel to other planes—and ultimately used it to scatter two primordials across known existence, mitigating the worst of the Calamity.
Nydas Okiro, played by Lou Wilson. Nydas is a man of many things: former pirate, designer of automata, Guildmaster of the Golden Scythe, last Dragon of Avalir, member of the Ring of Brass, a friend, a dreamer.
Jarett Howarth, voiced by Eugene Byrd. In Critical Role, he was head of the guard at Greyskull Keep, now an officer in the Pale Guard of Whitestone. In The Legend of Vox Machina, he is a captain of the guard for the city of Emon.
Devana Vessar, voiced by Toks Olagundoye. Devana is a Syngornian cartographer married to Syldor Vessar. She is the mother of Velora and the stepmother to Vax'ildan and Vex'ahlia.
Salda Tal'Dorei, voiced by Cree Summer (who also voiced Raishan). Salda is the wife of Uriel Tal'Dorei and was Empress of Tal'Dorei until her husband abdicated the throne.
Most of all, we encourage you to support organizations working toward racial equality and the improvement of black lives in the United States, such as the NAACP or the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Southern Poverty Law Center, the Equal Justice Initiative, the Center for Black Equity, or another organization of your preference local to your area or in your country.

Welcome to the WWE: World Wizard Entertainment
(Somebody get Vince McSam on the phone.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because I am a being of chaos and a chronic waster of time, I have put together a hopefully fun bracket of wizard match-ups! And let's be honest: my entire brand is putting wizards in situations.
For round one, I will be staggering polls throughout the day starting on Sunday, February 19th at 8am PST. Each round will run for a day, and the next round will commence once the final poll of the previous round has finished, at which point I will also post an updated bracket.
You can find all polls on my blog under the tag #world wizard entertainment.
A few notes:
These are wizards, and only wizards, hence why Gilmore is absent. Had I included him, it felt like a slippery slope to having to include a lot of other characters, and I simply did not want to deal.
There are some wizards absent. I do not take criticism on who was left out.
But on that note:
Vecna is absent for being first and foremost a demigod.
Raishan is absent for being first and foremost an ancient fucking dragon.
Vespin Chloras was included despite being a fiend during his time on screen because he is generally known as the most infamous wizard in history, and because I think it's funny.
Jenna Iresor was also included despite never making an on-screen appearance because she is the funniest member of the Cerberus Assembly, and I love her.
Lacrytia Hollow was, to my greatest regret, forgotten—I had decided to add her but failed to notice that I hadn't done so until far too late. But there are some great girlbosses on here already, so we move forward.
Also, on the topic of titles, I did include all current or most recent titles. You will notice that those who are alive but have vacated their positions, willingly or otherwise, are noted as "former."
Any wizards who were killed in the line of duty retain their titles. Lady Briarwood, Madam Archmage DeRogna—I'm not sure what you were working in duty to, but we salute you.
All first round match-ups are as follows; I'll add links to them as I am able, but I will be out or playing my own D&D wizard for most of Sunday. (Tumblr has also tried to eat this post multiple times, so I may discover that the editor refuses to allow me to edit it once it is posted, in which case, rip in pieces, and please check the tag linked above.)
Match 1: Architect Arcane Laerryn Coramar-Seelie vs Speaker of the Fourth Micah Cormorant Match 2: Eadwulf Grieve vs Former Archmage of Civil Influence Trent Ikithon Match 3: Keeper of Scrolls Patia Por'co vs Realmseer Eskil Ryndarien Match 4: Doctor Anna Ripley vs Archmage of Industry Jenna Iresor Match 5: Former Shadowhand Essek Thelyss vs Vera of the Squalleater Match 6: Archmage of Antiquities Vess DeRogna vs Eldamir the Wise Match 7: Arcanist Allura Vysoren vs Loras of the Weaver's Mask Match 8: Archmage of Civil Influence Astrid Becke vs Lythir VaSuun Match 9: Caleb Widogast vs Tuldus of the Ruby Vanguard Match 10: Vespin Chloras vs Halas Lutagran Match 11: Lady Delilah Briarwood vs Lyra of the Slayer's Take Match 12: Martinet Ludinus Da'leth vs Archmage of Cultivation Oremid Hass Match 13: Veth Brenatto vs Archmage of Dysology Doolan Tversky Match 14: Pumat Sol vs Gus of the Green Seekers Match 15: Yussa Errenis vs Archmage of Diplomatic Union Athesias Uludan Match 16: Planerider Ryn vs Lilith Daturai

With the announcement of S3 coming later this year, I thought I'd just put into the universe my predictions for how TLOVM S3 will work. I've already covered some of this before (see here for how A Bard's Lament has the same number of letters as there are episodes in a season), but now I'm in the mood to go into more detail.
My first thoughts were of what needed to fit into this season, namely, defeating the rest of the Conclave, vestige hunting, and individual character arcs. That's a LOT, but I think I've figured out how it COULD work.
Episodes 1-3 (Marquet / Glintshore)
Raishan has just revealed herself and needs to quickly gain VM's trust. She'll tell them Ripley was helping Umbrasyl with his vestige hunt and that she's gone to Marquet to track more down. This might be a good time for Percy and Keyleth to get some character development since Percy will be interested in taking Ripley out of the picture, and Keyleth will want to embrace R A G E for Raishan's involvement with Thordak destroying Pyrah.
Once they get to Marquet, Scanlan has the opportunity to reunite with Kaylie (since she and the troupe mentioned going there after Westrunn) and kick his character arc into overdrive. Scanlan will make his promise to Kaylie that he'll survive the crisis, and we'll probably get some J'mon Sa Ord and the Sandkehgs Hide scene.
Glintshore, the Anna Ripley fight, and Percy's death will happen in E3. This is simply because episode three has been chock full of depressing character moments for both S1 and S2 - so why shouldn't it also be the case for S3? It will also serve as a catalyst for Vex and Percy's official romance and potentially spook Keyleth and Vax into theirs as well. Scanlan will probably have a moment too, as he realises just how dangerous this quest will be. By the end of this batch, we'll have two (?) more vestiges with Whisper and Cabal's Ruin added to the roster.
Episodes 4-6 (Vorugal / Yenk / The Mansion)
The party will probably make a quick pit-stop in Whitestone where they'll find out the Conclave has expanded its efforts beyond Tal'Dorei, as Vorugal has demolished Draconia in Wildemount. Raishan will convince VM to go to Draconia with her to dispatch Vorugal. We might get more Exandrian lore to set up Wildemount for the M9 series as VM preps for the battle.
Scanlan received a key in the S2 finale that will likely come into play in E5 as either the key to his Magnificent Mansion or the Gate spell (both are iconic parts of the Vorugal plan). I'm leaning more towards the key belonging to the Mansion since they can rewrite the story to have Raishan cast Gate as a nod to how she freed Thordak. They'll summon Yenk so they can not only kill another dragon but also retrieve Keyleth's vestige. We'll get a really badass fight scene and character moments for a number of characters.
Considering how jam-packed the season will have been at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if E6 ends up being a cool-down 'filler' episode with character moments like Kima getting the Holy Avenger, the canon ball contest, and Percy and Vex's kiss in the woods.
Episodes 7-9 (Fire Plane / Earth Ashari (?) / Retaking Emon)
On the hunt for more vestiges, VM will probably head to the Fire Plane to recover the Plate of the Dawnmartyr with a cameo from Senokir. Still, aside from that, I don't know what the episode would consist of.
I also think this batch of episodes is a perfect place to slot in Keyleth's Earth Ashari trial, since it took place pre-stream and TLOVM seems to be hinting that Pyrah was her first trial. It would be really interesting to see how Keyleth's vision of her own death will be adapted considering how far into the Chroma Conclave arc it takes place. The trial would also give VM a chance to gather more forces for the coming battle.
Now, if the episode titles actually ended up spelling A BARD'S LAMENT, I would have absolutely named S3E9 'March to Emon'. This is where we get an Avengers Endgame-type moment of unity where all of VM's allies and the armies gather to take Emon back from Thordak. I'm thinking of appearances from Syngorn, the Ashari, Whitestone, maybe even J'mon Sa Ord sending some support their way.
Episodes 10-12 (Thordak / Raishan / Scanlan & Taryon (?))
We're in the final batch of episodes, and I feel like these are the simplest to lay out. It'll be boss battle after boss battle; the only question is how long each battle will take. Thordak will likely be kept to just E10, so that the show has ample time to handle the Raishan fight (since I tend to think of Raishan as the penultimate enemy from the Conclave).
Thordak dies, and in E11, the party battles Raishan in a brutal fight that does NOT kill Percy in the adaptation. I think him dying again would cheapen his death earlier in the season and take away from Scanlan's death in the same encounter. I really hope we get Travis breaking our hearts with "FIX HIM!" too. Now, I'd say the episode ends with VM taking Scanlan's body back to Whitestone.
In the season finale, Kaylie comes to Whitestone, and the party resurrects Scanlan. I think it'd be a unique change to the story (but not necessarily an unwelcome one) if VM was willing to just bury Scanlan, but Kaylie was the one who convinced them to try and bring him back. We get the absolutely gut-wrenching speech and his departure. The thing I'm wondering is whether TLOVM will simply end with Scanlan leaving and save Taryon's debut to S4, or if they'll introduce him in the final scene and leave us on a cliffhanger. My assumption is that the latter is the case since it's a very them thing to do.
With all that being said, I hope what I've written makes sense. It's been in my drafts for a good 6 months while I tried to piece together my theories, and I haven't exactly proofread it. Obviously, any number of things could end up being different, but this is just my take. I'd love to hear people's thoughts and theories that they've come up with themselves too!

Can we talk about the dragons some more?
I will be. Forever.
Many have already noted the care and detail that went into the design of each dragon, and I love watching the fall of Emon over and over to see new details each time.
But we also see so much of their personalities in this scene, and I love it so much?
Thordak is there to establish dominance, show his power, and accept worshipers, like a true red. He focuses on property damage (yes, people die, too, but that will happen when you nuke a mountain!) and showing off, because he wants lots of the ants in the city to survive. He needs their terrified adoration. We stan all of his "Is this your king?" speeches as he claims his throne.
Tumblr media
Umbrasyl is doing what they've been told to do. As the least powerful of the remaining Conclave members, they are raining death from above but not overdoing it. Thordak has no domain and subjects if they melt it all. Bonus content fight between Umbrasyl and KimAllura. (P.S. they're not dead, guys!) I have a big soft spot for Umbrasyl, and I'm curious how much we will get to see the dynamic between the dragons as the story moves forward. They barely get along, and I hope we get to see them interacting with each other more. Something went down between them after Umbrasyl took over Gatshadow, and I want to know what it is that left the black dragon alone and stranded out there with busted palantiri.
Tumblr media
Vorugal, it's been mentioned, we don't see a lot of in the fall of Emon. But that's exactly as it should be. Think about it: Vorugal is an elite hunter. They live a solitary life, always seeking more challenging prey to indulge in their favourite pastime. What is the point of destroying a city of helpless ants to Vorugal? So they go for the most challenging targets first, i.e. Allura. I'm disappointed that we didn't get the iconic shot of Vorugal perched on the side of her tower before they destroy it, but at least Vorugal still destroyed it in this version. Then it's almost like they're searching the city for worthy prey, doing the bare minimum to satisfy Thordak's orders. Of course Vorugal tracks them to Greyskull Keep. VM are worthy targets for the white dragon. I'm sad we didn't get to see Vorugal wrestle Thordak for dominance there. That was such a fantastic scene in campaign. Hopefully we'll get to see the two of them butting heads in a different way later on.
Tumblr media
And Raishan, clever little pixie. She's just having fun with it. You see her casually flying around the city, blowing smoke here and there before she eats Scanlan's biggest fan. But she knows what she's doing. She killed Uriel with her first attack, and after that she's pretty much like a cat. What can I do that will satisfy Thordak's command but is the most amusing to me? Playing with VM, for one. She makes sure they know who she is, and that she knows who they are. After that, she's going to do what a green dragon does: be sneaky and infiltrate their keep even before they flee to Whitestone. She was a lot more subtle about it in campaign than she is about it here, but we want new viewers to feel like they've spotted something hidden, too (LARKIN WATCH!). Good job. Raishan was the first to give her name during the attack in the campaign, and of course she gave it to us here in the fall of Emon as well. We stan a queen. You'd better put some respect on her name.
Really looking forward to seeing more of her--and all the dragons--this season. Even if they just do cut-aways to their territory or Pike has dream sequences to show what's going on with them, I'll take it. We deserve more than just their death scenes. They are legendary villains and deserve as much love as the Briarwoods.

TLOVM S2 E1: Thoughts
OH NO! The guy who thought scanlan was hot is dead
Raishan really is that bitch isn’t she?
If these dragons are bad why are they sick as hell
“And I’m so glad you’re alive too, Scanlan!” ahskfkfl
THIS VAX’ILMORE MOMENT MY HEART OH MY GOD- they just really GET gilmore
“Lock the gates!” Followed by the dragon smashing directly through the gates is so funny
Best Characterization: Gilmore I guess? Not a lot of character content, mostly a setup episodes
TLOVM S2 E2: Thoughts
FIRST MATT NPC!!
Vax your sexy death visions are sooo cool
Writing Zahra in as Vex’s “”””old friend”””” I see. So glad they fucked in canon
Ladies is it gay to wear your “””old friend”””’s feather on ur shirt
I thought the episode was a little scattered (trying to do too much- Groon, Vasselheim’s Council, Slayer’s Take) but I will say the payoff of the climax with Groon and Grog + the sphinx reading VM to filth.. very good
VICTOR I LOVE YOU
Best characterization: Vex
TLOVM S2 E3: Thoughts
THIS feels like the start of the adventure. The first two episodes did feel like a prologue
Nonono don’t bring my Kashleth heart into this
“Do not go far from me” he did it he said the line!
God Zahra and Vex are giving “you wanna fuck me so bad it makes you look stupid”
HOW THE FUCK ARE THEY GOING TO LEAVE IT THERE I THOUGHT THIS WAS A FOUR EPISODE DROP NOT THREE
best ep of the three by far
Best Characterization: Vax
Overall Thoughts: I think this was a much stronger start than S1, they understand the humor better and I had some real chuckles while watching. The first two episodes did feel like setup but damn did it pick up in 3. Im gonna be haunted by that closing shot. (Also to address my Pikelan agenda I am just asking for crumbs and they can’t even deliver that to me)

On a more positive note, I want to gush a bit about those dragons.
Like, aside from how distinct each member of the Conclave looks, the show does such an amazing job of showcasing just how POWERFUL they are. They don’t even have to use their breath weapons to cause mass destruction; Thordak’s body is so intensely hot that he melts metal street lamps just be standing near them and he has vents running down the length of his neck and flanks to expel excess heat when he breathes fire. Umbrasyl literally rains acid with a flap of his wings and Vorugal causes it to snow just by approaching.
There’s also the way that they simply shrug off our heroes’ best shots. Grog’s axe, the same one that killed Brimscythe in one swing, SHATTERS against Raishan’s hide without leaving a scratch. Ballista bolts twice the side of a man deflect harmlessly off of Thordak’s wings, which are often depicted as a weak point of dragons in other media. Even Kima and Allura, a high ranking paladin of the Platinum Dragon and one of the most powerful mages in Tal’Dorei respectively, can do little more than temporarily slow Umbrasyl down with their combined efforts. The opening minutes of episode 1 very quickly establish each member of the Chroma Conclave as an unstoppable force of nature in their own right, which will make it all the more satisfying as Vox Machina eventually takes them down one by one.
(Also, Thordak’s fire breath transitioning to a white-hot beam ala Shin Godzilla had me on my feet the first time I saw it).

Okay SO. The Legend of Vox Machina season 2.
I think I see what they’re doing. At the pace they’re going at (which is fine, I don’t have a problem with it, they’re hitting the beats they need to), they would, at this point, have a full six episodes left to dedicate just to westruun. Which, honestly? They don’t actually need. But episode 6 makes it very clear what the actual plan is.
1) Mythcarver gains a new role as a plot device. Keeping with the vestiges being just as hyperbuffed as the conclave themselves (which is fucking awesome, zero complaints here), Mythcarver goes from “occasionally useful item that doesn’t really synergize with scanlan beyond letting him be a mediocre knockoff of an Eloquence Bard sometimes” to “super cool macguffin that’s more than Just A Strong Magic Item and also fits with his character”. 11/10, highly approve.
2) Mythcarver clearly has the power to show where more of the vestiges are, but they get interrupted. Using it to get the location of the rest of the vestiges should be a complete non-issue...once they get the sword, which is now in the hands of umbrasyl. The dragon that we all know they’re gonna kill at the end of this season.
3) Mythcarver shows two vestiges. Fenthras, and the Titanstone Knuckles. By every sane law of storytelling, that screams “these are the vestiges that our protagonists will obtain this season”. 4) The story has also spent a lot of setup on Vex and Vax’s shit relationship with their father. I thought this was good, that they were laying the groundwork for season 3...but it did feel a bit weird for me. it no longer does.
5) The feywild arc will require an episode mostly dedicated to Syngorn and an episode mostly dedicated to Fenthras. Covering it in two episodes? Very possible, wouldn’t even be that badly paced. I suspect that they may stretch it out to three. I like this change - out of all the arcs to move to before umbrasyl, this is the best one. It syncs up well with the current themes and the season’s heavy focus on Vax and Vex’s relationship, as well as giving payoff for Percy’s character growth. 6) While they may do a three episode feywild arc...I suspect that they might do it in two episodes and adapt episode 1x57 - Duskmeadow as episode 9. Why? Because it will very nicely complete both Grog and Vax’s character arcs this season, having them all character development’d up for the final battle. It will additionally pay dividends on the foreshadowing about raishan hiding in their midst. Because it would feel weird in the seasonal tv format to lay all that foreshadowing and not pay it off at all during the season. The more I think about it, the less sense it makes to *not* do Duskmeadow during this season.
7) Then, with them having wrapped all that up in 3-3.5 episodes, the remaining time is more than enough to dedicate an episode’s worth to the herd of storms, one more to murdering the fuck out of umbrasyl, and then having a bit of wrap up to conclude it all.

After last year’s TLOVM watch party I realized it wasn’t really possible to rewatch the commentary. So this time I went and wrote down as much of the fun extra info as I could so I don’t lose it.
Season 2 Episode 1:
Everyone shut up, Gilmore’s talking
According to Matt, 75,000 - 80,00 people died in the dragon attack
The genasi(?) child that get killed by Raishan is voiced by Sam’s kid
After reading the S2 script, Lance Reddick said he didn’t want to agree to voice Thordak until he know what happened next. So Sam gave him the rundown of what happens
The party was starting to think “well what are we supposed to do now?” Before getting to the chroma conclave in the original campaign.
The orphans are also Sam's kids
Animators rotoscoped 2d animation over the dragons to add details. Specifically, ice on Vorugal
The first version of Scanlan jumping through the tree he had a tear in his pants, they thought it was too light for the situation and got rid of it.
A transition near the end was originally Scanlan’s pants, which had been patched up flying by, also too light.
Season 2 Episode 2:
"Etherial butt scoops"
All the chatter entering vasslehiem is just the main cast
The law-bearer person who directs them to the slayer’s take was originally Kima’s cousin.
Kash’s “You’re very close to me” was improv
The boar-man in the slayer's take is half Liam’s grunting half Travis’
This was Will’s first time cursing in an animated show
The calamity scene was assigned to one person (they did a great job)
Victor’s fiiiiiine
Season 2 Episode 3:
Dexter, the pink accountant dragon, who flies with a propeller hat. Voiced by Eddie Deezen.
Scanlan’s foot fetish joke was improv.
The episode has next to no musical score, to make it feel strange or unnerving. But swells at the end scene.
Zarah was designed to have very “John Wick” close-quarters combat magic.
When pike gets sucked into the pillar of water Travis always thinks Ashley sounds like an elephant.
Kash’s “‘Cause you fuckin’ should be” was improv.
Matt started crying at the end.
Let me know if I missed anything

so took a few hours to sleep after the premier and have some thoughts.  Personally, I thought the episodes were amazing.  I have some gripes, personally I didn’t like the handling of the Slayer’s Take, it felt to me like they were combining them with the Clasp to save time.  Not horrible, not even bad, but not my cup of tea. It’s something that you have to decide on when you don’t have an extra arc to show off who Kash and Zahra are.  It’s just a complication that comes with developing a show from a medium that averages 4 hours and over a hundred episodes to less than half hour episodes in a 12 episode season.
But everything else was amazing.  It feels weird to say, but I loved the fall of Emon.  Matt told it brilliantly at the table, but being able to see it is something else.  It really showed off the different dragons strengths and how they differ from each other.  How Raishan was basically pest control with her poison breath while Vorugul and Umbrasyl were the wreaking crew with their ice and acid.  Not to mention showing off Thordak in all his Cinder King Glory.  I’m not going to lie, I’m not a huge fan of Thordak fight, it felt big but also a bit of a slog given how long it is and how many characters and npc’s were on the board at the time.  He’s kind of just one of the dragons at the fall of Emon at the table even though he’s the one in charge.  But here, you see him melt the lamposts just by being around them, you see him nuke the palace in one fire blast, maybe it was also the voice actor, but to me it more established him as a character than his first appearence and bullying Vorugal as a display of dominance like in the show.
I loved the other two eps also, kind of wish the whole party was there for the Groon v Grog beat down, but again, time restrains 4 hours v 22 min.  The visuals of the Calamity was beautiful.  Osysa was Gorgeous and had a presence.
I’m going to talk about the sunken tomb later, but I’m happy, technically, even with that ending, on how it happened.

also can I just say that while I was very unimpressed and a little disappointed with the dragon design fro brimscythe in season 1, the season 2 dragon designs were FUCKING LIT, what a fucking glow up, they looked so much more real and smooth and like, I don’t know, believable and BADASS and the variation between them was soooo good, like the way umbrasyl was dripping acid from his wings????? raishan all sleek and menacing? vorugal with the more bat-like wings and blocky design just looking more like a battering ram of sheer violence? and then thordak and the way he just lit up with fire??? BEYOND FUCKING AWESOME, I’m so glad they went all in on the dragon design this season (which was what I was hoping for, since it IS the dragon arc xD)

I don't really know what my question is but there is a popular post going around that seems to take the exact opposite opinion as you on Keyleth and Osysa's taunts toward her. Basically I'm very confused why so many people think that Keyleth's fears all come to pass when, the way I see it, her fears become the least true out of all of Osysa's taunts to VM. I'm confused what any of it has to do with her lifespan? I am basically just ranting here so feel free to ignore just confused at the fandom
So here's the secret. Sometimes I see meta that makes me go "well I think that's wrong" but I am not going to actually reblog someone's meta and say "this is wrong" so I just write my own post in which I say what I think instead so that it's out there.
But yeah, I think Osysa's words to Keyleth are incredibly cutting, possibly more so than her words to anyone else except possibly Scanlan, because she just tells everyone else what they are directly (not nicely, but directly) whereas Keyleth's is a taunt. However, while she alludes to Keyleth's long lifespan (which, sidebar, I'm not entirely sure has come up in TLOVM, but I haven't rewatched season 1 lately and it's hard to split what I know as someone who's seen C1 vs. someone who's seen TLOVM S1 and I suspect many others are in the same boat), Osysa is mostly honing in on how Keyleth is so frozen by her fears that either she fails or she waits far too long to act. Her long lifespan is merely a way to hit harder on that second item, but not at all the focus of what Osysa is saying; and it's also very easy to interpret it as "you will outlive your friends because they'll die in battle against the dragons while you're freaking out in the background, unable to enter the fight, before you even get around to the Aramente."
I also think the fact that it's a taunt is a fun detail, because the thing that gets Keyleth past the initial barriers in the end is her being so furious and frustrated about Raishan and about the circumstances of the Conclave in general that she can't hold back anymore; Osysa realizes that simply telling Keyleth she's too anxious will only send Keyleth back down the spiral, but saying "oh yeah? prove it" might actually get a response.
But I don't think her potential archdruid lifespan is important, and indeed, because the implication even under D&D rules - and definitely in a purely narrative-driven story adapted from but not subject to D&D rules like TLOVM - is that Keyleth will not gain that long lifespan until she passes the Aramente, and without her archdruid status, assuming typical lifespans, Keyleth barely outlives the twins and doesn't even come close to Pike or Scanlan's gnomish lifespans. I think this is just Osysa saying "you'll put off your greatest responsibility until it's too late at the rate you're going," but making the life-or-death implications of that as clear as possible.

so since my brain has been in Legend of Vox Machina land since the trailer dropped I kind of wanted to try my hand at putting all the scenes we see in context with the episode order and my best guess on when they take place. Just my speculation based on context clues. Obviously MAJOR SPOILERS for the entire season and a very long post under the cut. Don’t say you haven’t been warned.
Based on these clips and the episode structure released I think the plot of the season is going to go thusly:
1. The Conclave attacks and the fallout around that. We end in Whitestone with Kima and Allura providing direction to Vasselheim.  2. Our heroes get refused at the Platinum Sanctuary, meet Zahra and Kash, have to prove themselves, and get information on the Vestiges of Divergence. Grog gets his beard-giving belt. We meet Victor either here or in episode 4/5.   3. SUNKEN TOMB 4. Sunken tomb aftermath. Vax visits Raven’s Crest. I’m guessing this is where we meet Kaylie and Dr. Dranzel, based on the double meaning alone. (”Those who walk away...” from the Sunken Tomb and from their accidental daughters??)  5. Pyrah and Raishan backstory. Vex either gets her broom in this episode or episode 4. Keyleth gets her new outfit.  6. Mythcarver and Kamaljiori. I think that we go into Westruun at the tail end of this episode before leaving for the Feywild. I actually don’t think that we are going to get Craven Edge denouement in this based on the clip of Pike trying to talk to Grog about Craven Edge as they head towards Gattshadow. I think this means we will get to Westruun at the end of Episode 6 and the stinger will be our heroes scouting out the town and then leaving. Also makes this a Scanlan episode which means we could introduce Kaylie here, although I think that’s late in the season for it.  7. Feywild part 1, Feywild shenanigans meeting Garmelie and arriving at Syngorn 8. Feywild part 2, Syldor and Saundor and the title, this is going to be Vex’s episode 9. Westruun, we meet Willhand and Scanlan helps survivors escape with Kaylie. Craven Edge denouement which leads directly into the fight with Kevdak.  10. Kevdak 11. Umbrasyl part 1 12. Umbrasyl part 2 and wrap up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
0:01 - 0:12 is all clearly footage from Episode 1. Big dragon attack, lots of destruction, etc. Picking up exactly where we left off at the end of last season.
Tumblr media
0:13 we get this shot. Vax is in Deathwalkers Ward, Keyleth has her new Ashari colors which I am assuming we get at Pyrah, and Vex seems to be holding Fenthras. I think this probably is going to take place in the last episode of the season, in Umbrasyl’s lair.
Tumblr media
0:14 is our first glimpse of what I can only assume is the Raven Queen communing with Vax. I’m guessing that this takes place in Episode 4 “Those Who Walk Away”, but could be elsewhere as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
0:16 - 0:18 is this shot of Keyleth saying “It’s like the end of the world” followed by Thordak and Vex, Keyleth and Scanlan narrowly being missed by a fireball. All of these I’m pretty sure are from Episode 1, based on Keyleth’s outfit and that I doubt we’ll see Thordak again until next season.
Tumblr media
0:19 we get Vax asking what the plan is. I think this takes place in Whitestone with Allura and Kima, right before they go to Vasselheim. End of Episode 1 or start of Episode 2
Tumblr media
Followed by this shot at 0:20 of the Chroma Conclave together. Probably episode 1 or possibly in Episode 5 as a flashback to Raishan’s role in everything.
Tumblr media
0:21-0:28 is Grog vs. Raishan. “19 doesn’t hit,” indeed, Grog. More from Episode 1, to set up the main plot of this arc.
Tumblr media
0:31: Keyleth opening the Sun Tree with Cassandra, Keeper Yennen and Gilmore watching. Guessing this will be at the top of Episode 2 to start us going to Vasselheim. (I doubt we are going to get back to Whitestone until Season 3.)
Tumblr media
0:31: Scanlan making plans in front of Trinket. Hard to tell from context clues when this is but we’ve got sunset lighting. I’m going to take a stab and say Episode 3, or in the Feywild. Could be anywhere though.
Tumblr media
0:34 team shot!!! Based on the shape of the buildings in the background and the lighting this is Whitestone, probably Episode 2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
0:35-0:36 is definitely going to be Episode 5 in Pyrah, possibly with Percy worried about his flammability because he’s just loaded up on black powder at Victor’s shop.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
0:37-0:38 Vex’s spit take here and the following group shot seem to be in the same place (the trees are very similar). Neither Vax nor Keyleth have their new outfits which means we haven’t been to Pyrah or the Sunken Tomb yet which means either episode 2 or early in Episode 3 for both of them. Lighting on the first shot matches Grog’s beard growing, and lighting on the second matches ice skating above the Sunken Tomb. These are probably different scenes, I’m guessing from episodes 2 and 3 respectively.
Tumblr media
0:40 New building architecture + snow says this shot is probably Vasselheim! It matches the sunset lighting of the previous group shot. Interestingly we’ve got Grog separated from the rest of the group and in shadow so maybe our first hints of Craven Edge stuff? I’d guess this is Episode 2, probably around when we meet Zahra and Kash.
Tumblr media
0:41 Interestingly it seems this bar scene takes place later on, with Keyleth in her Fire Ashari outfit! I’m assuming she gets the upgrade in Episode 5, which means this is Episode 6 or later. Probably Westruun but could take place in Vasselheim or Whitestone as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
0:42-0:43 we get this orc-looking guy getting into a fight with Grog and some clever editing to make it look like he’s getting into a fight with Grog.  Interestingly though those big wide open arches don’t suggest that this is a bar fight. They actually seem to match the architecture from when Keyleth summons her wall of thorns in Episode 10... And whoever Grog is punching in that final shot doesn’t actually seem to be the same guy. I don’t think these are the same fights.
Not sure what episode orc-guy is from, I think it’s the same bar episode as the rest based on the crowd behind him and the white-haired lady drawing her sword later on, which places this Episode 6 or later. Those last two shots are definitely from either the end of Episode 9 or Episode 10.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
0:44 Keyleth falling, definitely the same episode as the bar shenanigans from before.
Tumblr media
0:45 we get this interesting character. No idea who she’s supposed to be other than some bar tough. I think this is from the same episode as the other bar scenes and wherever we get that orc-guy from.
Tumblr media
0:46 Vex has the broom, and hopes some asshat falls into lava! I think this has to be Episode 5 in Pyrah (there’s sparks drifting down).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
0:47 - 0:52 we have Vox Machina getting kicked out of the Platinum Sanctuary, almost certainly at the very top of Episode 2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
0:53 We meet Osysa and get our first glimpse of the Vestiges of Divergence!! Which is likely going to be the arc of Episode 2, meeting Zahra and Kash and capping off with meeting Osysa who gives Vox Machina the quest for the vestiges. Interestingly her speech seems like it’s cut somewhat awkwardly, which means it’s probably going to be longer in the actual show.
Tumblr media
0:56 we get out first shot of the Titanstone Knuckles and what could be Kevdak! (Although he has hair, so maybe it’s not Kevdak?) This might be pulled from Osysa’s speech about the Vestiges but could also be from a later reveal of Grog and Pike backstory.
Tumblr media
0:57 Pike facing down a sphinx. I think this might actually be Kamaljiori rather than Osysa based on the size and Pike’s role in that fight. But also the markings are slightly different based on what we see from Kamaljiori later in the trailer.
Tumblr media
0:58 Vax at Raven’s Crest wearing the Deathwalker’s Ward. I think this is almost certainly Episode 4, since I doubt once we leave Vasselheim we’re going to go back until Season 3.
Tumblr media
0:59 we get this shot of Raishan, most likely from Episode 1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1:00 - 1:04 Grog gets his beard!! I think this must happen in episode 2 or 3. Neither Vax nor Keyleth have changed outfits yet, so I think this is probably during the Trial of the Take equivalent or right preceding the dive into The Sunken Tomb.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1:04 - 1:06 Kamaljiori firing off laser beams at Vax! This probably takes place in Episode 6 based on the episode titles alone, which means that something else is going to happen to trigger Craven Edge.
Tumblr media
1:07 Scanlan, Kaylie and Dr. Dranzel’s Troupe. I’m guessing they’re going to want to introduce Kaylie as early as possible before stuff in Westruun. Might be as early as Episode 2 although I have a feeling Episode 2 is going to be packed already. Based on the title of the episode I’m gonna say Episode 4 in Vasselheim.
Tumblr media
1:08 Keyleth and Zahra opening the way to The Sunken Tomb which places this smack in the middle of Episode 3.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1:09 - 1:12 We’ve got this Beholder-like creature, followed by Keyleth and Scanlan saying they’ve pissed something off. I think they’re talking about the Beholder-beast, which is clearly a copyright-friendly stand in for the Beholder in the Sunken Tomb. Episode 3!
Tumblr media
1:13 - 1:14: Scanlan doing some arcane skating above the lake that holds the Sunken Tomb.
Tumblr media
1:14 Pike yelling at someone that Vox Machina is trying to save the world. Interestingly this line also sounds slightly cut down. I wonder if it was originally “we’re trying to save the fucking world”.
Tumblr media
1:15 and seems based on lighting that Pike was yelling at Zahra and Kash in the Slayer’s Take, probably after being rejected by the Platinum Sanctuary. Zahra doesn’t look impressed (although I think this is probably some clever editing and this reaction might be towards Vex rather than Pike). Regardless I think both these shots are from Episode 2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1:16-1:17, Keyleth summoning some thorns in Episode 10. Interestingly this architecture matches up with the big arches sees in Grog’s fight earlier in the trailer, which makes me think that that’s not actually him vs. Kern and rather Grog v Kevdak.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1:18 - 1:20 we get a series of shots that I can only surmise are going to take place in the Feywild. Look at all that weird flora and those psychedelic colors!! These have got to be from Episode 7.
Tumblr media
1:21 Grog coming out of the Pokeball for his final attack at Kevdak, solidly Episode 10.
Tumblr media
1:22 Percy is shocked by something new. Vax in Deathwalker’s ward and Vex on the ground and what looks like a chest full of gold to their right. Based on the gold which I think was the herd’s tribute to Umbrasyl, this is probably the start of the Umbrasyl fight which puts this at Episode 11.
Tumblr media
1:24 Scanlan and Pike trying to save Mr Winky from a wolf. Doesn’t look snowy enough to be Vasselheim so I think this is the lead up to Kamaljiori in the Frostweald which means episode 6.
Tumblr media
1:25 Vex uses Raven’s Slumber to summon Trinket. There’s sparks flying through the air and the general ashy atmosphere makes me think Pyrah so episode 5.
Tumblr media
1:26 And Vex on her broom vs Umbrasyl! Looks like this is indoors which means in the lair, which means Episode 12!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1:27 - 1:37 our longest gag, Vax and Scanlan prepare to go inside a dragon the only way they know how. With a brief cutaway to Episode 1 and some poor lady melting to underscore how dangerous Umbrasyl’s acid breath is but otherwise this entire sequence will be in Episode 11.
Then we get the title card and release date!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1:43 - 1:57 We get Scanlan in the baby bjorn! More context on this clip was released on twitter. Keyleth and Vax are in their new outfits and that’s clearly Gattshadow in the background which means they’re headed down to Westruun. Pike is trying to talk to Grog about Craven Edge and he’s not having it. Pretty sure this puts us at Episode 6!
Anyways those are my thoughts, we shall see if any of them pan out a month from now!! (I can’t wait!!)
