So...I MAY have been collecting Fawfuls like pokemon cards <3
(and what the heck do I mean by that exactly??) WELL in a discord GC my friend Parmy suggested we’d imitate each other’s art styles as like a collab of sorts? Well...I kinda took that a step further heheh ^^
(And fun fact...this was supposed to be something I was gonna do for AU day of Fawful month too, but that idea got cut due to time)
So may I present...the different Fawfuls I drew!! For my friends/cool acquaintances!
Tumblr media
So the one who led up to this in the first place, Fawful from @parmsnik AU!! He is dating/eventually marrying Naspi depending on where you’re at in the AU haha! Your way of drawing Fawful seems to change a little bit each time you draw him, so I tried to my best to guestimate a consistent looking Fawf! Very cute!
Tumblr media
Up next is Fawful from @the-spacewaffle AU!! Yippee Ronnie’s AU! Thanks for being my friend for so long,,to talk about Fawful and all that stuff y’know? I’ll be cheering you on to complete the story qwq your Fawful is always so nice to my OCs when we crossover khskdjh also...pet the Reddo!
Tumblr media
Eee yay now it’s @snuffydoo Fawful and his AU title I totally made up on the spot! I know you don’t really have a name for that kind of thing and it doesn’t have to be canon but I hope you think it’s cute anyways haha! I had a lot of fun drawing this one!! It’s so stylized! AND IT HAS DIMMY (I enjoy your Dimmy artstyle sm) but I don’t draw Spamton very often kjhskgh
Tumblr media
Here’s @federthenotsogreat Fawful AU of sunshine goodness~! HE RETURNITH (and since I couldn’t think of another character to feature with your AU...not knowing if Cackletta is there or not jhgskg I gave him a cute little swirly sun!) I admire the fact his outfit is mostly YELLOW and also blue those are cool colors OH AND THAT LEG TOO, also super cool :)
Tumblr media
The smol and cute @omgtheywereroomates Fawf! Your ask blog is so neat! I know I don’t ask too many questions there but I just,,,the cartoony fluffy hair?? Love that, and also thank you for your support and the super cool ship as well ^^
Tumblr media
Heheee yeah hey it’s @cammiluna Fawful from Immortal Fool! Before you say anything YES I’m aware he’s got the new design since it’s near the end of the comic, you released the page that featured said new design while I was already working on this drawing xD So whoops! I just wanted to give appreciation to your comic series that you continued despite everything, and well...I know I haven’t shown much progress on it, I also want to make a comic series...so you’ve inspired me a lil :D
Tumblr media
Deep down here there’s a little AU by @aliencatwafers which features Fawful in the sewers! With the little baby bros!! You’re a very insightful and inspiring writer with plenty of neat headcanons and ideas for the bean! Ik you mostly draw in pencil but I took the colors from your submissions to Fawful month this year and used em here! Hope it looks cool!
Tumblr media
This little gremlin here with the two moms is Fawful from @bean-n-shroob ask blog! He looks very silly and unhinged (in a good way) and I hope he’s having a good time since after BIS! I love how round your designs are and Fawf is no exception :D
Tumblr media
Last but not least is this VERY soft Fawful from @localdealmaker and their AU, whose title I made up too (again doesn’t need to be canon or anything if you don’t want it to be, I just wanted to give every drawing a cute name ^^) I think yours was the most complicated to draw for me but I love how he looks, so squish!! Kaboo is cute too!
WHEW THAT WAS A LOT OF TYPING KSJHKGH but yeah I hope you guys have enjoyed this...I might make another part someday full of more Fawful designs from friends but I AM A LITTLE BURNT OUT...doesn’t mean I didn’t have fun tho!

Out of curiosity may I ask for your thoughts on hazbin hotel? I’m not the biggest fan of it. I do like nifty and sir pentious though.
Also I enjoy your murder drones art. I love the way you draw uzi :)
Ehhh, the relationship with me and how i feel about about HH is a long one, considering ive been following viv since her deviantart days lol. well i wasn't ever that much of a fan, mostly cuz ive never been too into that stretchy cartoonish artstyle she used to use for her comic "Zoophobia" buuuuut i had to hand it to her- she def managed to accomplish something a lot of us wish we could do with our world buildings huh? so ill give her that much lmao. but I'm gonna say that i haven't watched the show YET.
tho as far as controversies surrounding her uh... religion imagery goes- even as someone whos been brought up as a religious muslim- i don't really care tbh. you need to have a certain level of capacity for satire like this and if you don't, its really not for you //shrug. mostly to say you need to really know your own rights and wrongs to not be affected by a cartoon made by people who have their own beliefs yknow?
but as far as the story has gone so far in Helluva boss im not really.... ANYWAY- its fiction, and i don't have to like EVERY aspect of it, i don't think the writing is GREAT i don't think its AWFUL- currently I'm in a very big MEH area towards it lmao-
but i can say for certain that i absolutely LOVE the songs and adore them- especially thankful of having found one of my favorite artists eVER through HH- "SILVA HOUND"- there is almost no work that he has put up that i don't go crazy over- when the beat drops i feel my soul ascend yall don't understand 😭 <33333333
and well finally the art i guess? i like it, not bad, kinda tired seeing so many people trying to imitate it to a tee- i agree that imitation is the highest form of flattery lmao but it gets old when everyone's trying to be similar yknow? but character-design-wise, again, i feel like the character designs are amazing? but.... misplaced i guess.... we all know that these characters are vivzies old ocs, but lore wise- none of the characters look like what they are supposed to be... like we all know the issue with Beelzebub, sigh, that was weird for my eyes to behold as someone who remembers queen bee from zoophobia- and im not even sure if Vaggie is a moth anymore considering her uh... new backstory??? was she even a human at some point anymore? is Adam a human? are half of the heaven population wearing masks? why do they look like characters from monsters inc. that got a yassified by James Charles?? im... so confused lmao. why do angels have horns and hell sinners have wings?? looking at husker- skipping the Alastor controversies- yada yada yada- is Charlie supposed to be a goat when neither of her parents are- yeah okay im tired never mind.
short version: its interesting on the eyes, confusing to the brain XD
overall my final comment is: its fun as long as you don't take it religiously serious ;p
and thank you so muchhh :D

3, 5, 8, 26, and 30 for the artists asks? :0
3. What ideas come from when you were little
SO MANY OF THEM!!! I had this idea where an entire class replaced themselves with robots and also I remember getting really upset that everyone kept on talking about Harry Potter (I was in like. g2 and I didn't know about the terf stuff yet but it was fucking everywhere) and also this one classmate I had kept making horror stories about the school so I just drew the monsters having fun together in a school a lot
(this is the classmate that said the hopskotch things were actually where people were buried?? I don wanna give anything more kasi that'd doxx me) OH and also I had this habit of adding like. antlers and shit to everything which still carries on to this day. I have never seen a deer or moose in person in my life yet but I plan on having that changed
5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself
uh. a good percent actually. I don't do math but I'd say 75%? maybe a little more maybe a little less?
8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in
Okay so there was this one time my friends and I wanted to do our own fanganronpa. We didn't finish that. And then there's literally every AU concept and fic I've ever done/am doing ever and. yeah. It's still there!!! It's just! brain things idk OH MYGOD AND ELDRITCH HORRORS WITH ETHO AND GRIAN!! I LOVE THE CONCEPT I JUST DON'T THINK THE BRAIN JUICES FEEL LIKE WORKING ON IT
26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended
okay so this isn't art per se but that one scene from the original lo3 where dxd calls etho 404 that was a ref to ep404 of the letsplay and. i don't remember where I was going with that one honestly
30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated
ohohoho
Two Canaries At Rest - It deserved so much better... I love the vibe I did for this one it's just aduisuusada
Genshin!Cub in the desert - I would like to thank Aether for this AU and also for giving me brainrot that has lasted for months. I think it'd be cool if he had a story/world quest that was like. related to that sandstorm. In my heart it's what happened
Court magician Cub in jjba esque artstyle - this one actually got robbed and I don't know how. It disappeared from the cubfan maintag and all my other posts seemed fine?
Grian Mycroft, Private Eye - I wish the wet chunk of fats in my skull let me work more on Polaroids >:/ I need to do more art for this au
DreamXD stained glass imitation - not that into dsmp anymore but damn. I just love this one. I love the effects I love the colors I love the lines I love love love it. If I suddenly learned how to do stained glass art this would be the first thing I make

Remaking Peter Parker: The Romita Sr. era (2) - Softening the Edges
MASTERPOST
Interestingly, the next two issues of Romita's tenure feature Jameson's son being victimized by the narrative:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In #41, he's kidnapped by Rhino, and in #42, he still can't catch a break and loses his clothes. I'm focused on Peter, but I feel this is quite notable; can't whump the same guy too much, after all. At least, not in this comic. And naturally, Jameson quickly puts on a space suit that heavily contrasts with his previous allure.
Tumblr media
He puts on his tie! And then, MJ finally shows up and makes history.
Tumblr media
By the time #44 rolls around, Peter appears noticeably less thin in his suits. It suits him perfectly.
Tumblr media
MJ is also quick to show she likes to manhandle her men. I think it might have been part of the perception that she was "wild". Along with her weird vocab and party girl persona, probably.
Tumblr media
This is also a weird sight: you rarely see Peter with such a specific area out of costume. It does make for good drama.
In #46...
Tumblr media
In this specific panel, Peter is drawn very romantically. The gaze and the thumb on May's chin are almost too suggestive. It doesn't really matter: Peter shows tenderness, when it seemed almost impossible under Ditko's hand. He's closer to a proper gentleman.
Tumblr media
Harry also made himself appear nonthreatening by removing his vest, if only for one panel.
Tumblr media
Naturally, I had to talk about Harry too (#47!). They barely started living together and already show physical proximity, and in a casual way. Peter shaves! We never see that. At least, I don't remember seeing that where I am currently (1978), aside from here. It's a rare occurence, but of course, a proper hero must look clean and handsome. Next to him, Harry doesn't look so dapper.
Tumblr media
Oh my, Pete, you stud! Your tie is all over the place, though. Careful about the tie!
Later in the issue, Norman get tied up by Kraven. His past (aka his gay drag queen acts) are catching up to him! Also, a position of weakness.
By #48, Romita has a much better handle on how he wants to order the pages. He doesn't imitate Ditko anymore (thankfully).
Tumblr media
Muscles! (#49)
Tumblr media
What. A. Slut. (#50)
Tumblr media
Peter's feet appear several times in this era, and they're very pretty, for feet.
More importantly...
Tumblr media
Oh wow, ASM #53! You took me by surprise, but it's a very good surprise indeed! Even with so many layers, Peter shows us part of his strained back. We also see his mask come out of his pants like a girlfriend's panties, and he puts his hands under his pants to hide them better. This is a lot! This is new, too. I love it, it's subtle, but definitely interesting.
Tumblr media
#54 gives us Forearms!Peter, but Romita style. Lovely.
Tumblr media
And Handsome!Peter with his thumb under his belt. Show that belly!
Tumblr media
And that right panel has interesting framing. The bike is an extension of his body.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And some more forearms.
#57 features Ka-Zaar, who's always shirtless. Good for him! More importantly:
Tumblr media
Bridal carry!
Interestingly, those issues put Peter through the wringer and whump him quite a bit. Memory loss and brainwashing of your acquaintances will do that to you.
Tumblr media
Peter's even more of a romantic figure, look at his expressions! (#60) He's troubled, gentle, it contrasts quite a lot with Ditko's early Peter.
By then, the art is more similar to Romita's regular artstyle for the rest of his run, but the faces are still a little inconsistent.
Tumblr media
In #62, Peter's poses are very casually sexy of him. It's remarkable because of how unremarkable it's made to look.
Tumblr media
I just really love how his pants are drawn on the right.
Tumblr media
In #63, he wears a turtleneck! It gives him a different vibe. A bit more serious.
Issue #69 presents us with an original sight as well:
Tumblr media
That last panel is... interesting too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
71: Peter is more often shirtless, and there's a lewdness added by him doing his best so that Harry doesn't see him like that. In the penultimate panel, Harry undoing his tie is pretty neat too.
Tumblr media
#73's cover is fun. Once again, the small view of Spidey's lower back is very enticing.
And we can finish this post with the end of the Clay Tablet arc in #75, when Silvermane drinks the formula... and starts getting younger and younger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His silhouette is slim, his figure extremely handsome, he has cake, strength... I'm pretty sure he was a biblical revelation to me when I first read this issue as a child.
While the issues in this post don't feature anything as outrageously horny as the first Romita Green Goblin arc, they have a lot of subtle beauty that makes Peter a constant marvel to gaze at. Thank you for your service!

An artstyle meme of my childhood inspirations! Drawn from 2016年. I butchered a lot of them but, close enough :’)
Ridiculously lengthy description from DeviantArt:
You can find the blank template here: fav.me/dalsfkf
If you're using it, make sure to tag me so I can see your work! ;w;
Okay, so, I've wanted to do this for a long time now. xD
Took me 3 days to make, but holy flying potatoes, it's all worth it. My younger self can rest in peace now. ; n ;
There were a bunch of art styles I wanted to try to mimic but I decided to cut it in sets and start with this one for now; a set as a tribute to the art styles that helped me develop and improve my very own from the beginning of time--Featuring my male OC persona [*at this time lol], Akihiko Shourikawa.
I'm aware most of these are anime adaptions (thus pure cell-shading with my coloring)and perhaps the company that animated the series did some changes on the original art style, but eh. I think the spirit of the original art style's still there haha
I also thought of including other series that have been part of my childhood like
Cardcaptor Sakura,Yakitate Japan,Samurai X,Slam Dunk,Yamato Nadeshiko, Special A, Kaichou wa Maid-Sama, and Ranma 1/2 but those weren't really much help in my art style's development (that, or I just really couldn't attempt to mimic their styles x'D)
And so, here's 11 art styles that made it in this art meme that I owe a lot with my own from childhood.
The hyperlinks will redirect you to the author/artist's and series' information, as well as the character's picture that I used as a reference for drawing.
Oh and this lengthy lengthy description per art style is just a bit of my reflection, perhaps with some really old drawings of mine occasionally linked here and there to see how they influenced me haha it's too long, carry on if you must xD
GOSHO AOYAMA ( Edogawa Conan fromDetective Conan ) This is one of my very first anime series, and it scared the living lights out of me while simultaneously making me feel like aiming to become a real detective someday.(Buuut reality's a douche, real life detective work ain't that fun, and I got no brains for it. Dreams shattered.) What intrigued me the most was the way the nose was drawn in the series. Noses in animes were usually triangular in shape, but this one has a literal triangle as a nose. XD It had a very distinct art style that was very easy to mimic for me, and helped me with mischievous facial expressions like the symbol smirk Shinichi/Conan usually does in the show. It is much, much simplistic compared to the other art styles, but it's very memorable and neat.
NAOKO TAKEUCHI ( Tuxedo MaskBut I used a different character as reference hahafromSailor Moon ) This one brings me back to good 'ol days haha. I remember being addicted to Sailor Moon at one point and some other similar shows like Sugar Sugar Rune and I made (or attempted to, anyway) my own Mahou Shoujo story...it's giving me the nostalgia and cringe. .v. Anyway. Her art style was certainly girly, but I liked it. The earliest memory I have of this is basically sparkles. This might as well be where my love for sparkles originated haha I didn't do very good in imitating it, but I tried my best. xD Akihiko's hair wasn't the easiest to emulate into Sailor Moon's style. And I was trying not to imagine the kimochii face meme, but failed midway. I am so sorry Naoko Takeuchi.
HIROYUKI TAKEI ( Yoh Asakura fromShaman King ) Because of an older sister, I've been influenced and made fun of from watching a lot of shoujo/mahou-shoujo animes. But there was also a point in my life where it was all pure Shounen. Shaman King is part of that. xD Aside from the characters themselves in the series, I found the art style cool; The eyes were barely anything special and it was only black fill with a bit of circle lighting on an upper portion (for the most characters), but it looked cool and even much more expressive compared to some anime styles that have full detailed eyes. And for the lols, enjoy this and this and this Shaman King fanarts I made when I was...8? 9? 10?? Basically really really weabish and kiddish orz to make you feel good about yourself and your art. Dear lord. xD
YOSHIHIRO TOGASHI ( Killua Zoldyck fromHunterXHunter ) You cannot talk about HunterXHunter without hearing me fangaying into the distance. Jk, I just really love this series. The actual show aside, the art style was...honestly, okay. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't really that good either. But it shined the best in its best moments in the anime. Oh and I'm talking about the 1999 version one, btw. x'D After some years went by and just recently I replayed the series, and it inspired me a lot. There was one time in class I doodled and it came out kiiiinda similar to Killua and Gon and this one random OC that I made while thinking of Komugi from rewatching the series over and over too much. JK who am I kidding, there's no such thing as rewatching HxH "too much", amirite. And I really love Killua. Hhhhhhhiatus.
BISCO HATORI ( Tamaki Sou fromOuran Highschool Host Club ) Wow, I made Akihiko look bishie with this style o-o; Anyhoo, hands down, this is probably my most favorite reverse harem anime/manga. Outside the show, I didn't really find the art style all that appealing at first; it looked like the short and thin style similar to most shoujo stuff like Special A and whatnot. But I eventually saw the beauty of it; the gracefulness and smoothness of the style was pleasing to my eyes and I eventually loved it. I did make a fanart of the group from 2 years ago, buuut it was 'eh' xD I might as well remake it sometime. As for what it contributed to my own style, I can't think of any obvious traits but from this style, I've learned that eye highlights can also be placed at the bottom lol (because I always see them on the upper left or right and I just went with that ever since. xD)
RUMIKO TAKAHASHI ( Inuyasha fromInuyasha ) This one was the first anime series I ever binge-watched. It also influenced me the most when I was just starting with drawing, along with the series Ranma 1/2, also made by the same person. But the style I mostly absorbed was the one on Inuyasha's. My oldest drawings got burned but the ones I saved that had the most prominent Rumiko Takahashi-style influence was this and this. My eyes are cringing to death. I was like 6 or 7, dammit. Anyway, this style in general, now that I look back to it, wasn't the best. It had the old feel most 90's animes do, but it was still very memorable and still displayed coolness with Inuyasha's best moments in my memory.
AKIRA AMANO ( Sawada Tsunayoshi fromKatekyo Hitman Reborn! ) Tsuna isn't the coolest shounen protagonist, especially from the beginning of his story. Characters like Yoh and Gon were already intriguing and gave off a 'cool' feeling since the very first episode, but Tsuna was...no good. xD I always found the style on Tsuna's character a little too girly and unfitting, and it was sorta annoying at first. But when later arcs came along with other characters, I saw the variety in Akira Amano's art style; The cuteness of the arcobalenos and child characters, the girlyness of most female characters and the coolness of characters like Hibari, Lal Mirch, and especially Tsuna's dying will mode. It was amazing, and I aimed to have that sort of variety in my own style, too. I'm still struggling with that goal, but I'm slowly working on it. xD
PEACH-PIT ( Amu Hinamori fromShugo Chara! ) Oh. my. god. This was the shoujo series I got most hooked at. I was so obsessed with this series that I made so much fanart for consecutive years. Like this and this and this and ooh, this and of course this one. What can I say, I loved this series when I was a weabkid and I still love the art style up until today. I aim to make mine as cute and neat...and so far I'm failing, but I'll slowly get there. xDD And now I can see how a lot of its art style influenced my own. It's kinda cool and weird to see lol And Akihiko turning into a full shota xD
MIN AYAHANA ( Chacha fromAkazukin Chacha ) It's one of those silly old animes I really enjoyed and loved. The cute art style complimented the show very well. I found it to be similar with some other animes that aired in its time (around the 90's, I guess? I dunno, I was born in 2000 sooo... xD), but this one had bigger eyes and bigger mouths. It was...odd, but super, duper charming and cute. xD It helped me a lot with chibi expressions and developing my own chibi style in general.
YANA TABOSO  ( Ciel Phantomive fromKuroshitsuji ) Yana Taboso's artstyle is one of the prettiest art styles I've ever seen. I first saw the anime, and it was great. When I took a look with the manga, holy crapola the art is just as good, if not, even better. It's unfortunate that I butchered it. XD I AM SO SORRY YANA TABOSO, I'VE DISGRACED YOUR HOLY ART STYLE-- I didn't really absorb much with this style, ( Even though I wish I did, I should revisit this series =w=; ) but upon watching the series, there was a dark time for me when my art style was changing and so confused from my desire to be alike to this style, kinda like this and this. Dark times. But I surely want to further study this art style.
And lastly, but definitely not the least,
AMY LUONG( Teddy Emmick from @Pacthesis Games (Specifically, Chrono Days Sim Date) ) Where do I even begin. Amy's my flash hero, as well as the reason why I pursued digital drawing and told my parents "Hey, I think I want a drawing tablet". Aside from spending most of my adolescent days playing her games, (wait, am I still considered adolescent now. I'm confused xD)I also splurged in attempting to make my own. It's still in the works, but hey, it's slowly comin'. xD I think this was unconsciously done by my brain, but now I can see how kinda similar my art is from hers. She's definitely one of the most biggest impact on me and my art as of today.
And so, if you got all through that, congratulations haha
And a big thank you to these artists, even if they'll never see this, they're the reason why my art is how it is today. And I wouldn't be drawing if it weren't for them. Please do check them out if you've got some time! They're wonderful and inspiring artists and creators. ^^
AND I'M SO SORRY FOR BUTCHERING YOUR STYLES OMFG I SWEAR I DID MY BEST ; A ;
Welp, now that this is done, I'm gonna go rest and start on my pending stuff haha
I'll probably make more of these, the next batch being art styles of some close drawing buddies I got.
But that's all for now, and I hope you have a great day! > w < )/
~ How about you, who were your childhood idols and inspirations? ^^ ~

Digging through the archives 1: The ReBoot drama
Hello and welcome to one of the first “subsections” of posts I am going to make on this tumblr for the sake of an easier overview. This one is titlted “Digging through the archives”, because it will always relate to something I will find by literally looking for some of the oldest “opinion” or personal related stuff about Dobson that there is. So think of this here less as me tackling his comics and more of my own version of what the Hypocrisy of Andrew Dobson does.
With that explanation out of the way, lets just briefly talk about Dobson and his idea of fan entitlement; If you have followed Dobson throughout the last year or so, you know he has a very low opinion on fans of the original She-Ra and He-Man, 80s cartoons in general and Star Wars, to the point he thinks the people behind it are all potential alt righters (link red flag comic) or basically man children.
Tumblr media
To anyone who knows Dobson however, it would be no surprise now to learn that he has a tendency to be the same kind of way to other people and creators. Like when he whined to an actual writer on a Frozen related property about the necessity of giving Elsa a girlfriend, which even resulted in Aaron Sparrow being involved at one point, a professional animator and comic writer on the Boom Comics related Darkwing Duck issues. A prime example on how Dobson will literally make himself also unsympathetic to the people he wants to work for/with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then there is what I found in relation to a little animated series by the name of ReBoot and that is really where both his entitlement and egotism kinda shine.
For those unaware: ReBoot was a computer animated adventure show produced by Mainframe Entertainment and ran from 1994 to 2001. It is actually listed as the first fully computer animated cartoon out there and is fondly remembered by a lot of people. Unfortunately, I myself have never watched it so I can’t give a “valid” opinion on it. All I have seen so far are clips on youtube but I will admit that what I have seen in them looks fun and intriguing, even if the animation at parts (especially in season 1 related content) has not aged that well. But hey, early computer animation, that is forgivable. And any media that manages to make an episode that is also in a way a huge tribute to Evil Dead of all things in a children cartoon is a big win for me.
youtube
Now, how is ReBoot connected to Dobson? Dobson has been a fan of ReBoot, a fact he made publicly known when in 2007 rumors of a continuation of ReBoot emerged. Something Dobson, again, the man who is pissed about the entitlement of She-Ra fans, has not been very happy about.
Tumblr media
But Dobson, what is so wrong about being “different” from the past? After all, let the past die! The original show had terrible artwork! And not everything back in the day was good, right?
Yeah, it is pretty obvious how his complaining and stands against “modern” fans ring pretty hollow when he himself acted as the entitled brat he thinks critics of new She-Ra and Thundercats Roar are, back in 2007 already. Also I honestly feel that at the very least the creators of that idea gave their fans still more “control” than Rian Johnson did. And we all know how much Star Wars suffered in terms of reputation because of it.
BTW, this webcomic continuation mentioned? It is actually not just a rumor that went nowhere, but one of the most fascinating aspects I found when reading up on ReBoot via Wikipedia. The idea was that of the five potential pitches (so again, there was variety given that even could have been expanded on) people could choose one that would be further adapted. Additionally the people behind the idea were looking for more active input by fans, giving people the chance to apply as artists working on it if they decided to submit samples people could vote on. Something Dobson jumped actually on. And tried to manipulate in his own favor
Tumblr media
The thing that catches my attention at first is how hyperbole Dobson is. Claiming the fate of the show is in their hands and treating voting on this thing like it’s a live or die situation, with pointlessly writing stuff in caps as if we are reading the headline of some trashy newspaper article. It just comes off less as someone who is a fan and more of a fanatic of the show. Second, I just find it hilarious that of all the plattforms online Dobson decided to post that “VERY IMPORTANT” information people should act immediately on, was deviantart. Did he genuinely expect people would flock to what he wrote in order to immediately do something about the vote? Deviantart even back then was mostly for posting fanart, few people read journals and even less people cared for ReBoot. I don’t know if the /co/ board of 4chan existed back in 2007 already, but he would have had more success posting on there and get the information out, than on dA.
Lastly, the shameless self promotion. Stating he does not care which pitch wins, when only three day prior he whined how they all suck and he wishes the show would be done justice by someone. That someone obviously being him, the person who is so hardcore as a fan, because he already waited 8 years just to watch season 3. Damned be any other artists or pitches that may be better or more popular than him, HE is the true messiah and that is his chance to shine. So don’t be “neutral” and judge fairly based on actual competence, talent and effort, just vote for him blindly or else Trump wins the second term and your beautiful nation turns into the fourth rei- I mean,  Dobson will be a very sad guy who has come to terms with the fact he is not talented enough to work on a reboot/continuation of his favorite children show.
Well, it seemed to have had some impact though, as four day later he posted this
Tumblr media
And obviously Dobson is pissed his favorite pitch did not win and instead of being grateful for the good ratings some of his artwork got he focuses instead on the fact that his Enzo and Megabyte pic had the lowest rating. Which in my opinion it kinda deserved. I mean, look at those artpieces:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Enzo is okayish looking but the rest? That is not Megabyte and a genuine background, it is a cola light version of the entire Ripley disaster with the Samus Artwork commission. Also, Enzo’s hands just look weird. His fingers more alien than they need to be and the position of his legs not really adjusting to how the hip is supposed to move. The comic sample page that Dobson drew being okay overall, aside of the fact that Enzo in one panel HAS FOUR INSTEAD OF FIVE FINGERS ON ONE HAND DESPITE HAVING FIVE FINGERS IN A PREVIOUS PANEL. I am also not really a fan of how Dobson puts emphasize on the word “FAN” and “PAGES” in the post, indicating he thinks he is a better and bigger fan than any of the people who submitted their entries too, off handedly praising them but also making it obvious he thinks he is the most fit for the job, because he can also “copy any artstyle” and adjust to the needs of his superiors. Yeah, sure. That’s why you are nowadays and with even more time and effort put into your work so “good” at imitating Ladybug, your comics look exactly like in the show…
Tumblr media
Now considering that Dobson does not have ReBoot under his resume and likely tried his best to bury any enthusiasm for it, you can imagine how this chance at being an official artist ended up.
Tumblr media
Not even much of a follow up or introspective in why he may have not won. His enthusiasm died within two days.
And honestly, I am surprised that as a result he did not fake depression and rage quit doing comics for a month or so as he did here and there.
And that is pretty much the end of the ReBoot drama, at least as far as I know.
If you are interested what happened with the comic project, here is what I managed to gather:
The project did actually not die in development, but “ReBoot: Arrival” would be reimagined under the name “Code of Honour” and be published online in three “issues” over the course of the next few months. The comic’s status as “canon” continuation of the show is however very much in the air, as quite a lot of people think it is something of a fanfiction, others think it is a good enough continuation that unfortunately still does not deliver on an “ultimate” ending of the franchise. That said, with additional plans like a movie trilogy never been realized and the “reboot” known as “ReBoot: The Guardian Code” having been perceived as an insult by fans and a disappointment by most audiences (which Dobson was surprisingly silent about) this comic seems to be the best thing fans can still hope for and read.
youtube
Yeah, I am not even kidding. The comic is still up. Here, have two links to independent pages if you want to either read it for the first time or revisit it for the sake of nostalgia.
As for Dobson, if he reads this, I just have one thing to say to you: Don’t you ever again try to whine about how entitled fanboys are, if you felt entitled enough yourself you tried to manipulate a competition in your own favor in the hope to become a writer and then exploit ReBoot for your own agenda and benefit.

Game Impressions from PAX Aus 2019
Tumblr media
Wake the fuck up, samurai. We've got a city to burn.
Every year I go to PAX Aus with some close friends to check out the Incredible Future of Games that everyone else already checked out six months ago, along with some cool weird indie shit and some awesome retro stuff. And every year, I write a little diary of what I saw to share my impressions with my friends. This is that diary.
Doom Eternal
Okay, let's get this out of the way. I played Doom Eternal pretty much as soon as I got on the show floor. It may shock you to know that it is, in fact, good.
Tumblr media
No pictures of the demo units, sorry, so have this big logo.
The demo started with a little grey-box tutorial map just to teach you what you need to know for the demo level, since it was taken from the middle of the game. It looked very Snapmap-y and had some Doom 2 MIDI music playing. After that we were given about 25 minutes to acquaint ourselves with the lengthy "Mars Core" mission they've been showing since E3. I was at the start of the first arena of the hell bit when I ran out of time. :(
Here are some scattered thoughts from playing:
Your standard running around and double jumping feels much the same as in Doom 2016. The dashing feels great, although I think it might reduce your air control a little afterwards as I had some trouble overshooting a platform in the floating debris bit.
Climbing walls felt a bit weird to me. You have to press E on the wall manually to grab onto it, which feels a bit unintuitive when you're plummeting past it. Also feels a bit odd considering mantling up walls is automatic. You can auto-grab onto walls if you dash into it, but I think it's only for the first bit of the dash? Maybe I'm just bad at videogames.
I think the Combat and Super Shotguns now use different ammo types? I could have swore there were situations where I could select the Combat Shotgun but not the SSG.
The Chainsaw now no longer has even the slightest pretence of being a "real" weapon. It's now just a swing animation when you press the button, like a melee attack, before bringing your weapon back up.
When you have the SSG's Meat Hook attachment, a little meathook icon appears below the crosshair. When you're close enough to an enemy to grapple onto them, the icon floats over them, indicating that it has some kind of auto-aim mechanic to reduce frustration.
There was a monster with swords on its arms that acted an awful lot like the Baron of Hell (might have been the Hell Knight, looking at the Quakecon footage of the same fight) but it looked quite different. Looked fuckin' cool, whatever it was.
The platforming but in the debris section with the giant floating red barrels was actually kind of frustrating. It wasn't always clear where you needed to go, and the climbable bits tended to blend in with the rest of the world. Then again, keep in mind I have a frankly abysmal sense of direction. Thankfully falling into the void just whacks you for a paltry five health and teleports you back onto safe ground.
The locational damage stuff is really fun. Breaking a monster's guns has a satisfying metal "PING" sound to it to inform you that the dude got fucked up and is weaker now, and that you should keep doing it.
When I picked up one of those "?" secrets, the pop-up box told me that they unlocked "collectable dolls" and "cheat codes". The former is vague, but I suspect they'll be like the mini-Doomguys but of more characters. I'd imagine the latter will be like in Rage 2.
Oh, and it looks a million bucks, too. Though you probably didn't need me to tell you that.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with what I saw and it's even more of a pity it's not coming out next month.
Not Indie Games, But Also Not Doom Eternal
Tumblr media
The Vive Cosmos felt really comfy - the lack of cabling and the decent display resolution made it feel a lot more natural than the Gen 1 Vives I've previously used. The game they were using to demo (Audica), however, was pretty lame. A rhythm-target shooter that didn't really take advantage of the medium at all.
Bleeding Edge was not inspiring. It was basically the control point mode from TF2 or Overwatch, except every character was a third-person brawler with little emphasis on projectile weapons beyond the occasional special. It felt like someone making a claim at TF2 or Overwatch's throne several years late while bolting a weak character action game on, which is fairly odd considering how innovative and critically acclaimed Ninja Theory's previous game was.
Dreams is fairly fascinating in its potential. The creation tools weren't available in the demo build so I can’t really judge them, instead there was a choice of eight developer-made experiences ranging from Mario-inspired obstacle courses to videogames as art.
I didn't get the chance to actually play MediEvil, but I watched some folks play it and it basically just looks like the PS1 game with more triangles, with all the slightly wonky 32-bit gameplay that entails.
The demo unit for Monkey King: Hero Is Back had some utterly bizarre graphics settings for some reason that made it look like I was playing a JPEG file, with big whopping compression artifacts surrounding each character. Weird!
Tumblr media
Not happenin’.
Indie Games
Tumblr media
Grabimals is a brilliant local co-op puzzler where players roll around as shapes and link together to solve puzzles like catching a falling water droplet, crossing a gap or casting a shadow that matches an example image. Supposedly it's still a ways off from release, but it's already impressively polished (disregarding one hilarious crash bug we found by accident!)
Hamster Scramble is a really fun take on Puzzle Bobble, with platforming elements, team play and the ability to jump over to your opponent's screen and fuck their plans up directly. It's an absolute blast and didn't feel like it was almost a year away from release.
Fork Knights is a platform fighter with an emphasis on one-hit kills. The character designs are cute, but I can't really say the gameplay itself struck me, to be honest.
Baron is an eight-player single-screen local multiplayer dogfighter. Fairly simple mechanically, but pretty fun all things considered.
Tumblr media
Broken Roads had some lovely hand-painted art assets and some interesting ideas like a literal moral compass, but the demo build showcased was waaaaay too early to be shown off to the public. Of the eight or so areas present in the demo, only two had any characters, interactivity or really anything other than wandering around set up, and the combat side of things was extremely rough and sequestered off to a side area as a "well, if you insist..." kind of deal.
Misadventure In Little Lon is a true-crime adventure game for mobile with a unique mechanic - each "scene" is integrated into the real world via AR, with characters (that resemble Poser models more than a little bit) speaking to you directly. Not sure if it holds up over an entire game, but it's attention-garnering at least.
Speaking of true crime, The Black Window tasks players with using an Oujia board to question Australia's first female serial killer, with responses taken from court records and letters from the time. The well-acted performances of the actual individual in question's words lends it an impressive atmosphere, which the booth added to with a big wooden oujia board type thing you could "type" on. Sort of.
ACID KNIFE is real, real early, but the aesthetic is awesome and the pixel art is great. Hopefully it grows and expands into something special.
Tumblr media
The Vigilante Proclivities of the Longspur is an oldschool Lucasarts-inspired point-and-click adventure with a custom demo scene set at an oddly-familiar videogame convention. Pretty promising so far, but could do with a good bit of polish - I'm pretty sure there was only one sound effect in the entire demo, and dialogue was often lacking in punctuation.
I didn't get to play Hot Brass but I watched over shoulders and talked with the developers, and it looked pretty cool. It's basically a take on SWAT 4's rarely-imitated brand of tactical copwork, but with a Hotline Miami-style top-down perspective, but with all the characters abstracted down to simple board game like tokens - a circle with a coloured outline denoting attitude towards the player, with a weapon icon if armed.
Blood Metal... Blood Metal is not good. It is extensively not good. Development seems to have only started in July, so one can still hope that the bad AI, unsatisfying gunplay, buggy collision detection and complete lack of damage feedback (outside of some ridiculous, sight-obscuring gouts of blood) get fixed over time. The 80s action movie aesthetic and low-poly artstyle forces it to be compared to Maximum Action, which is at least a fun kind of jank...
This Starry Void is a real-time, tile-based 3D dungeon crawler set in an abandoned spacecraft. It seems pretty cool so far, but it could probably use some UI/UX tweaks. The attempts at a "graphic novel inspired" visual style for the environments could probably benefit from looking at how Void Bastards did things, as well.
Tumblr media
Lethal Lawns and Beam Team are fucking arcade games with massive cabinets. In 2019. Granted, they're also on computers and coming to consoles and stuff as well, but still! They're both pretty simple games, and therefore best played in cabinet form.
Unpacking is a "zen puzzle game" by the developers of Assault Android Cactus about the second-worst part of moving house, unloading an unseen character's packing and getting a glimpse into their lives as a result. I wasn’t able to play it due to an unexpectedly-crowded booth, but the pixel art is quite lovely.
Feather is a chill game about being a bird and flying around an island trying to find its secrets. I tried the Switch port, which played alright but obviously (and understandably) toted a lower framerate than the demo PC.
Topple Pop is a cute puzzle game that blends together elements of Tetris, Puyo Puyo and that one joke game that was Tetris but with a proper physics engine. Looks cute, with a fun gimmick!
Tumblr media
Shooty Skies Overdrive is an VR spinoff of the popular mobile shmup, and basically similar to that one shmup minigame in Valve's The Lab. Weave your plane, which is attached to one of your hands, through incoming bullets and enemies like a toy! The 3D effect on the incoming projectiles looks great, but they can tend to get in the way of the action sometimes.
Dead Static Drive has been at like the last three PAXes and it looks better every time I see it. I hope it comes out this decade.
Snow Mercy is a third-person shooter/strategy thing where you hunt down icecubes to spend on an army of snowmen to crush your opponent's base before they crush yours. Not a common genre combo, reminds me of C&C Renegade a bit.
The Adventure Pals has graphics straight out of mid-2000s Newgrounds and level design out of pretty much any european platformer, but it didn't seem too bad from my brief prodding at it. The player character is perhaps a bit too small for my elderly eyes in Switch portable mode, but that's about as far as my gripes go.

Sherlock Holmes in Russia
For a country that the rest of the world completely overlooks when it comes to cinematography, Russia has contributed surprisingly quite a few adaptations to the Sherlock Holmes franchise, much to ACD’s dismay. Since you guise like lists with links and I’m very conveniently blogging about all kinds of Russian SH exclusively, I thought hey, why not make a comprehensive guide to Sherlock Holmes in Russia.
Russians grasped the concept of the hot British detective back when the stories were still fresh and funky, so the hysteria had a pretty early start already. The every-man, the smartest boy in town, the Sasuke to 2010′s tumblr: Sherlock Golmes
Tumblr media
As per the fantabulous tradition, Holmes in the early translations fell under the H=G train just like Garry Potter and sir Genry, but well, they recovered soon, although the early history still remembers this weird phenomenon of Sherlock Golmes (or Golmts) in pre-revolution Russia.
Contains: pre-revolution grammar, Golmts, Vhatson
Theater soon caught up with the obsession, which resulted in Boris Glagolin securing his place as the first Russian Holmes on stage
Tumblr media
Which in return, gave birth to the first still existing content:
Sherlock Holmes stage adaptations
Badly translated by yours truly.
You’d think they would just adapt the canon like normal people do, but jesus christ, in every story Holmes, that very same dude with no social life and couch as his best friend, keeps going all the way to freaking Russia to search for rich people’s missing jewelry. I am not joking in the slightest right now, the read will be wild. Interestingly enough, there is a strong sense of revolution already lingering in those plays, granted it’s 1906 onwards, if you follow me on this adaptational adventure you’ll see that Russians are really influenced by the mood of the country when creating new Holmes content. But it’s here already: some British detective suddenly involved in Russian drama of diamonds and freedom.
Contains: Holmes’ wife, MARIANI, explosions, first femlock, jewelry kinks, MOTHER RUSSIA
After this there was quite a long silence with lots of theater adaptations passing by without much notice. One of those highlights must be Vasily Lanovoy, THIS freaking man:
Tumblr media
saying that yes he probably did play Holmes at some point, but he forgot when and how. Fuckin fantastic, Lanovoy, thnx for the input.
This continued up to 1971 even, when a few plays turned out to be so good they were honoured to get filmed for national television. This is how the earliest tv-adaptation has reached us, avocado millennials:
The Hound of the Baskervilles (1971): 1 | 2
No subtitles and never will be while I remain a proud man with standards.
This play is interesting because it’s the forbidden content tumblr craves for: all three plays were put on a shelf after one actor who played Watson in the Hound escaped abroad, and were never shown since. Decades later the Hound was miraculously discovered intact, restored and made available once again. That’s the sole interesting thing about this adaptation.
It is what you expect it to be: a two and a half hours tedious exactest motherfucking adaptation ever, you don’t even need subtitles for this, you only need to whip out your book, because every single freaking line is 100% according to text, but in Russian. It is what it is, what can I say, although it still has its own weird things like Frankland missing completely.
Contains: Henry and Watson sharing a bed, Mortimer touching Holmes’ skull, 2h30min of peaceful sleep while it plays
Everything went quiet until 1979 when things just decided to explode all at once, but I’ll start with what I at least think came first. In the span of the same year, Hound ‘71 got shelved, a Christmas Holmes musical came out, and as the final kick into the grave - that very Soviet Holmes series.
So, The Blue Carbuncle (1979) YT | Drive
I think this is the best adaptation on this pitiful planet because no other Holmes movie can inhale weed into your eyes right through the screen just as hard as this vid can. It’s fantastic how little it cares about canon and everything holy about Sherlock Holmes in general. Moreover, it’s a freaking Christmas musical shot for a country that doesn’t celebrate Christmas. It’s truly a gift for the mankind and has the lowest rating among all Russian SH adaptations because after finishing it, your eyes are so cloudy with weed you’re very likely to miss that deserved 10/10 with your trembling hands. Also, sneaky Igor Dmitriev somehow managed to star both in this shite, and the unholy Soviet series simultaneously as a villain and Inspector Gregson respectively. I have two sides indeed.
Contains: the least Holmes-looking Holmes you’ll ever see, off-key singing, the canon story with a twist, Shakespeare banter.
And here comes the blissful times of what is considered the best adaptation produced in Russia:
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson (1979 - 1986)
Subtitled poorly and uploaded in ever poorer quality by our beloved Lenfilm. Lenfilm: we hate the content we produce.
The last video in the playlist is both Hound episodes in bluray tho
This series is distinct by how very warm, healthy and snuggly it is, as they wanted to tell a story about friendship and better people. It is pretty close to canon, but granted it’s five movies in two parts mostly (as the majority of Soviet television adaptations went), they do combine, twist and turn things a bit. If you’re looking for faithful canon with no toxic sociopathic bs, lots of fun, heart-clutching and incredible music - that’s the series you will go to. This series is the sole GIANT Holmes thing in Russia and its influence is as big as ever, which sure has its ups and downs.
If you want to continue your course along the *Russians influenced by their times* theme, do pay attention to how English people and their interactions are represented, and especially note the sudden shift in mood of the last two episodes that were made right when Perestroika hit. People having no idea what life beyond the curtain looked like making up a dignified fantasy vs confronting worrying change. It’s subtle, but it’s there, pretty interesting as well.
Contains: lots of hugs, dead dogs, killer jams, Mycroft under a table, sir Henry and Watson getting smashed
*it might be worth noting that the same director decided to re-release the series weirdly in 2000 as a show about ACD hating life, Holmes and everything around him. The show mixed heartwarming series with the new hate, was aired like twice in its lifetime and is more remembered for all the lawsuits more than anything. But I respect Alexey Petrenko way too much to keep quiet about it.
Tumblr media
After that we suddenly dipped into animation, resulting in
Sherlock Holmes and I (1986) short with Livanov as Holmes, subs provided.
A quick nonsensical story about Holmes and his best friend dog Tom. Yes. Has pretty killer electronic music and surprisingly famous actors on voicing for something this tiny.
Contains: a universe where Watson was never born, crocodile eating a banana, a dog having a mansion and Holmes still searching for pennies under his couch to afford a shitflat on 221Bitch Broke street.
After this new times hit big time, resulting in one of the first femlocks in the world:
My Dearly Beloved Detective (1986): YT | Drive
Youtube blocked the youtube vid hard recently, so it’s resting on google docs, subs provided.
I personally very love this movie as again it’s very healthy and non-toxic, very warm, all around the place, and yes, Holmes and Watson are women. Consider this movie the Soviet series’ little sister as it’s fully acknowledging Livanov, imitates its camera tricks and uses the same score granted the same composer is involved once again. Actually, that composer worked on all three adaptations, aka this movie, the series and the carbuncle. Wild stuff.
The movie is obviously not that fantastic and is safely forgotten in Russia, but I love it dearly nonetheless, and love it even more for how healthy it shows relationships getting sorted.
Contains: best Lestrade ever, crossdressing, bubble games, reused locations.
That was the last Soviet contribution as the next adaptation wouldn’t come out until 2005. Rest in pieces USSR, you were the golden age of Russian movies.
The next two dip us back into animation once again and are technically Ukrainian, but anyways. It’s the
Murder of Lord Waterbrook (2005) time, subs provided.
The short bases its characters on the Soviet series and slays them ruthlessly in the most hilarious fashion. Everyone is a fun idiot, everyone is a murder suspect, occasionally gay stomps in. Also, the short, save for the female roles, was voiced by one single guy. Tumblr will love the fact that this guy is the voice of Shrek in the Russian dub, so the cartoon was always in safe hands.
Contains: the origin of the gloryhole gif, tasty steak, 360p
Flash forward to 2013 and the same guys made this cartoon into a mini-series that we have also translated:
Sherlock Holmes and the Little Black Men (2013).
Six episodes add up to about 40min of overall watch time and follow a story with lots of canon and Soviet series references, more cool artstyle, music and jokes. Such a pity it’s so grossly overlooked as the cartoon is great fun and was made with love. Also, Shrek is back.
Contains: stupid Watson, cliffhangers, Totoro cameo
And here comes the last contribution to date, the very awesome
Sherlock Holmes (2013) series, subtitled with love.
This series, in my opinion, is a peak adaptation on topic *what if everything written in canon stories is bs*: it rewrites all the characters and the narrative from scratch, toys brilliantly with canon, references and easter eggs most of the previous Russian adaptations and a few Western ones, it’s incredibly well thought out and rewatching it at least once is a must because the plot is so ace and required double checking to understand it fully. It contains incredible acting, very consistent character traits, the bestest Watson to date and very entertaining stories.
Also, concluding so far the *big Russian Mood(tm)* arc, this series is blatantly, as confirmed by the director, about modern Russian social and political issues: bribery, racism, law meaning nothing, you name it. It’s a very good series and it deserves all the attention in the world.
Contains: british trump, bimbom bramsel, loser holmes, basil rathbone
And the last but not least:
this hilarious parody on classic, RDJ and BBC Holmes made by the parody show that knew it all too much. Don’t consider yourself a true Holmes fan if you’ve never seen it.
Contains: Lady Gaga, special subtitled gaze, “deduction”.
So here it is, the more or less comprehensive guide on all Russian Sherlock Holmes stuff I know, or at least consider important enough to mention. If you want to do some good old piracy, I always have the page ready with all the subs and best torrents.
It is indeed quite a few adaptations for a country so far away and wild, isn’t it.
