on the power of  cabin 10
part of me wants to think the bad image of the cabin is to do with pipers view point
and also the collective viewpoint of the enitre camp
another part of me wants to think they cultivatd the whole weak and powerless thing on purpose
see people may think that love is non threating right?
but theres a reason why Love  hangs around War illicitly
they both cause destruction
its what they mutually admire about one another
love is cruel always eventually souring and festering into an ugly emotion one that fuels Rage
and Rage is essential for war
love gives people things to fight for and love is easily broken
love can be kind and all of us know in this world kindness is a commodiity and easily weaponised - also seen within War
this whole spiel may seem disjointed but it echos the true nature of Love - incomprehendable too large of a feeling too large of a force for a mere human to  fully truely understand
and that is what makes it dangerous
s0
i need cabin 10 content where they have like a secret lab and make like magic makeup and are disguise masters and are not weak  and own the fact they like to look good or not look good and are powerful in there own way
aLso
this ties in to my headcanon that the the “shoes of shame” are part of  an inititation ritual  bc in the Lost Hero the gasps and shudders of cabin 10 seems incredibly fake (perhaps learning the meaning of true beauty/love  is not hwat you wear??) and once they pass it - they learn of the cabins true agenda and where the true power lies

Things I would change about HOO if I had the chance
Disclaimer, I am not suggesting that I am better than Rick Riordan, BC while I do have issues with certain actions of his, what he has created is extremely impressive and without a doubt amazing. I am not suggesting that his books need to be burned and that they're terrible, but it’s important to note that no book is flawless and every book can have criticism levied against it but that should not necessarily affect your enjoyment of a piece of media.
With that out of the way, let’s get into it
The debate on whether or not to save Nico is my least favourite part of the entire Riordanverse. I despise it with every fibre of my being. Look I get why they were arguing against saving him, and I do think there's value in the scene and it shouldn't be removed, but Percy should not have accepted it. Percy and Nico may have had problems (points to Nico’s internalised homophobia + probably religious guilt, the misplaced blame of Bianca’s death, the betrayal of Percy to Hades, and probably many more examples) but Percy’s fatal flaw is loyalty. He literally took on the great prophecy for Nico. He could have asked his dad to idk. Turn him into a dolphin until Nico’s 16th birthday or something. But he didn't. Also, Nico was the one to get him the Achilles Curse which probably saved his life countless times, and Percy should at the very least want to return the favour.
Speaking of the Achilles Curse, how did they get rid of it? Are we forgetting that Percy can swim without getting wet? (Also it seemed a bit contrived to me). And before you go arguing that it lowered stakes, no it didn't! There’s a great fanfic I once read that showed what it would be like if Percy kept the Achilles curse, while also delving more into the curse aspects of it! In the end, you could clearly see why he wanted it gone! It could have been an extremely interesting plot point!
I made a post about it before but the Percy Jason rivalry was contrived. It should have been an Annabeth and Jason rivalry while Percy and Piper were the friends. Like. Both Annabeth and Jason were used to being the leaders, and while Annabeth can give up control, she doesn't usually do so. They’re both also the competitive ones so they would definitely clash a lot more than the usually laid back Percy. Honestly Percy and Piper would both be really good friends.
The Jason and Annabeth rivalry would probably be exacerbated if Jason acted like he had been raised by y'know. Wolves. To me personally it never really came across that he had been with Lupa since he was 2. He should have been more. Wild ig? Like in Caffeinated Flummiddle’s ‘Decendents of Olympus’ (I butchered their name, I’m sorry) he literally ripped out someone's throat! That’s more wolf like behaviour! And while I don't want him to be all Alpha and stuff, I would like more wolf characteristics please. Maybe a preference for raw meat, lending to the irony of him dating a vegetarian
Speaking of the vegetarian in question, I hate how they handled Drew. Traumatised girl who fought in a war, lost her older sister, and had become cabin counsellor gets humiliated by a new sister who forcefully takes her place. So once again, I’m going to take inspiration from Caffeinated Flummiddle’s work and make her aroace, and also less cruel. She’s definitely no sweetheart but she’s more sympathetic. I mean, look at it from her perspective. After all the aforementioned stuff happens to her, Percy Jackson, one of the strongest demigods and well beloved figures goes missing, the gods shut down Olympus, and suddenly there’s info on where you can find Percy after months of searching, but it’s fruitless and instead of Percy, you get 3 random people, one of whom is your sister, and is extremely mean towards Aphrodite kids, treating them as if all they care about is physical appearances (side note: I hate the interpretation of the Aphrodite cabin. Literally during Vital, they were running around offering to make ppl look good, when it would have made more sense for them to be gearing up to fight to protect their home and the people they love. After all, there’s a reason love and war are so often interlinked. I personally would have leaned more into this protector aspect. Aphrodite kids fight for love, and to protect). So Drew in my version would have rightly wary and pissed, but would bind with Piper for the course of her stay at camp, coming to see her as a sister and encouraging her to lean into her femininity. But no counsellor Piper! Idk why Rick loves to make all of his characters either Counsellors or Praetors. Out of the 7, the only non-cabin counsellors were Hazel and Frank, who were both Praetors
Leo would stay single and learn to love himself, and that his value is not dependent on his relationship status. I would prefer Hazel/Frank/Leo like in this very specific fanfic but Single Leo works better thematically. No Calypso plotline. The gods freed her and that’s that.
Actually no that’s not that. Calypso could join the hunters like her late sister. After all, after centuries of being forced to fall in love, she's probably done with it.
Idk if Reyna should join them or instead just travel around the world and chill. After all, not every single female character needs to join the hunters.
Small tweaks to Percabeth. Check my previous post for more details. Aka no judo flip scene, and more supportive Annabeth
No evil Nyx. She’s a primordial, she has better things to do than bear with demigods. This isn't a big issue but I’m not a fan of it.
ACTUALLY ADDRESS THE POISON SCENE MY GOD. CW for Suicidal behaviour but Percy was willing to let himself die! And Jason just went ‘Yeah I get it’ instead of giving an appropriate reaction!
Also idk if I'm hallucinating but I could have sworn that Annabeth once said that she got underestimated for being blonde. That was the stupidest thing ever. I'm not blonde but I can assure you, ppl don't get discriminated against bc they're blond. I feel like it would have worked better if the focus was pivoted from 'being seen as dumb BC she's blond' to being seen as dumb BC she's a girl'
Also idk if I'm qualified to talk about this but Rick really just gave us body positivity (Frank not being conventionally fit), before magically taking it away. Like maybe if he got there through exercise it wouldn't be quite as bad (though it's important to remember that not all plus sized people can exercise and get super thin, and it depends on a number of factors like your genetics and any possible medication) but just magically he got stereotypically fit, which annoys me to end BC of personal reasons
Definitely not qualified to talk about this but I remember there was a whole issue with a part of the way Rick handled Piper's Cherokee identity. I can't remember but I believe it was BC she wore eagle feathers in her hair which is only done by Cherokee chiefs? If anybody is well educated on this issue, pls feel free to educate me.
More emphasis on smart Percy. We all seem to have forgotten the diet coke scene and that is a crime
More Grover??? He went from being one of the main characters to being nowhere around
There's probably more but I can't remember right now. Might make a part 2

Cupid
Okay, so this was originally meant to be the second chapter to this fic: Tumblr AO3
However, I drop that idea very very quickly into this fic and don’t really explore much of what I set up because I wanted to focus on James and my interpretation of James for a little bit. Also, I have to say that this was at least partially influenced by my friend’s fic, which I will link to here because it’s a beautiful look at an aromantic Sirius: Beloved
Kinda a hurt comfort for the aroace-specs for this valentines, or really just anyone who’s feeling a bit alone today
It starts with some aro-phobia though, sorry
“Just because you can’t fall in love with anyone, it doesn’t mean you’re FUCKING CUPID James,” Sirius yells.
James looks Sirius up and down, “You…you can never just say stop, you always have to bring any pain you can into all of this.”
“James, I’m sor–”
“No, you said what you said, and you’re right. But just because I don’t feel that way, it doesn’t mean I can’t want you and Moony to be happy, if this would even make you happy. Guess I wouldn’t know, not cupid or aphrodite here, just good ole’ James Potter, trying his best.”
“Can we talk? I need…I need you to be fine, to be my friend. Please don’t hate me. I’m sorry, I just–I can’t think.”
“I gotta go, gotta fly.”
“Just like time,” Sirius speaks with a sad smile, that stupid little saying James had when they first started playing quidditch.
And that’s how James spent his Valentine's day, flying around. The wind flowing through and making an even bigger mess of his already crazy hair. Flying and trying not to think back on everything. On this day when everyone was so focused on love, on romantic feelings that he just couldn’t have, he tried his might to avoid thinking about it. If it doesn’t happen then it doesn’t happen, and that’s okay. Despite how much we want to relate to others and feel what everyone else feels, sometimes we just can’t, and that’s okay.
James had love in other ways, he had some of the best friends that someone could ever ask for. Despite some feelings of loneliness, he had to remember that. There were people that relied on him, there were expectations of him, and eventually he would need to come to terms with the fact that some expectations he just couldn’t meet. He couldn’t be perfect. And. That’s. Okay.
That’s normal.
That’s fine.
There’s so much more to life.
The breeze messying your hair, the triumphs of victory in quidditch or cards, the savory tastes of soups, the places you can see, the trees that reach out their arms in winter. There’s always something to have passion for, even if it can be hard to see.
So James returned to the common room, finding Lily and Peter sitting at a table, paints and papers around them.
“Can I join you?” James asked, unsure of what she might say, they never quite got along but it was worth it to ask.
Lily smiled, “Sure.”
And they made a valentine, and another, and another. Cutting and painting and doing all the few art things that James knew how to do. Writing letters.
Later on James received a letter from Sirius. An apology, a true apology as Sirius tried to reexamine how they view things, things they can’t really understand, but will try to.
He also received a letter from Remus, a valentine, and a valentine from Peter, a piece of candy from Marlene, a bracelet from Mary, and even a valentine from Lily.

Hello!! I have a question(s?) for you but you can totally just ignore it if it comes off as rude (I'm so sorry if it does). So I recently found out about Hellenistic paganism through your blog and I know next to nothing about it. I found it super interesting and just wanted to ask some (probably really silly) questions.
First of all:
Is there a specific way or specific ceremony/ritual involved that I need to do in order to convert? How do I get started?
And also a bit more specific of a question:
Can you still worship Aphrodite if you're aroace? Are you /allowed/ to worship Aphrodite if you're aroace? It's a silly question, but it feels kind of important to me. I had pretty bad experiences with a couple of other religions because they weren't very tolerant (or maybe it was just the people that I was around?), and it drove me away from them completely. I just want to make sure I'm not getting into something like that again. Nothing wrong with having set-in-stone beliefs and stuff, but excluding certain groups just doesn't sit right with me.
Thanks for taking the time to read my questions. I hope they didn't come off as rude.. Hope you have a great day!
(Sorry it took me so long to get to this it must’ve gotten buried in my notifs lol)
Hi! You don’t come off as rude at all and your questions also aren’t silly ones, they’re actually fairly common questions!
First of all, there’s no set ritual or ceremony you have to partake in in order to convert. Basically, if there’s a god you’re very interested in worshiping, just reach out to them! The first god I worshiped was Apollo and I just gave a simple offering, introduced myself, and prayed to him. Of course you don’t have to do it *exactly* like that but that’s what worked for me. It just gets you out there and familiar with the act of praying and giving offerings (also the first offering I give to deities when I’m ‘introducing myself’ is just water. It’s simple, sure, but they accept it. Again it’s just a nice way of putting yourself out there). Of course you don’t have to be completely perfect the first time (hell I’ve been doing this for years and I’m still making mistakes now and then, so don’t put too much pressure on yourself to do it perfectly the first time), so don’t stress it there.
Secondly, yes, you can absolutely worship Aphrodite and be aroace at the same time. While a lot of people see her as the goddess of romantic (and subsequently sexual) love, she’s a lot more than that, because there’s a lot of different types of love. There’s the love you have for your family, the love you have for your friends (both online and in person), the love you have for your pets, and of course the love you have for yourself! There’s no rule saying you can’t worship her if you’re aroace, and if anyone tries to tell you as such they’re lying. Because, again, there’s more love than just romantic and sexual love.
And to answer that last little bit of having been in religions and dealing with people that weren’t that tolerant-in my experience a lot of people in the helpol community are very accepting and welcoming. People are generally very happy to help answer questions and help you get set in the right direction. Of course, sadly, there are still people that aren’t very accepting but from what I’ve noticed they’re pretty few and far between and I don’t interact with them. I just block and move on. That’s kind of the nice thing about helpol not being a ‘mainstream’ thing, you can very easily curate your experience and just block rude and bigoted people. That’s how I’ve been waltzing through this since I started and it’s made this very pleasant.
Also, I hate doing a self-promo but my side blog @worshipper-of-zeus I post pretty much strictly about this stuff over there and you can also find other wonderful blogs as well!
Anyways, I hope I answered your questions and helped give a piece of mind here, cause yeah because it can be somewhat intimidating at first. And it’s also important for me to say that not everyone’s practice is going to look the exact same, so don’t freak out if you’re practice doesn’t look exactly like mine or anyone else’s. Just do what’s best for you and your lifestyle. That’s my best advice tbh. But if you have anymore questions, I’ll happily answer them!

I know this has already been discussed many times, but was Artemis a lesbian? Wasn't she supposed to be a virgin goddess?
So this is not an simple topic to talk about. It's hard to apply modern sexualities onto ancient figures. Especially in this case. And of course, one is free to make their own interpretations. But I can talk about how it is in the myths.
You're right about Artemis being a virgin goddess. There's this whole arguement of "a virgin was someone who was just unmarried!" and while, yes, that is technically right, they're forgetting that for the greeks, an unmarried girl was not supposed to have sex either. So virginity eventually meany a girl who hasn't had sex. Some might say that only penetration was considered as sex, hence Artemis could have had sex with a woman and still stayed a virgin. Yes that could have been the case, but we have evidence that she didn't have sex or want it.
Homeric Hymn 5 to Aphrodite 6 ff (trans. Evelyn-White) (Greek epic C7th to 4th B.C.) :
"Nor does laughter-loving Aphrodite ever tame in love Artemis the huntress with shafts of gold (khryselakatos); for she loves archery and the slaying of wild beasts in the mountains, the lyre also and dancing and thrilling cries and shady woods and the cities of upright men.
Lucian, Dialogues of the Gods 16 (trans. Fowler) (Greek satire C2nd A.D.) :
APHRODITE: Let them pass too, because they are grand. And why do you never take a shot at Artemis?
EROS: Why, the great thing is that I cannot catch her; she is always over the hills and far away. But besides that, her heart is engaged already.
APHRODITE: Where, child?
EROS: In hunting stags and fawns; she is so fleet, she catches them up, or else shoots them; she can think of nothing else.
And Sappho herself, who's so famous for loving woman, wrote
Sappho, Fragment 34 (trans. Campbell, Vol. Greek Lyric I) (C6th B.C.) :
"Eros, loosener of limbs, never approaches her [Artemis]."
So, it's pretty much clear that she didn't want romance or sex. And that's how I see Artemis too. But I admit there are some times when it looks like she might have loved her companion romantically (Britomartis, for example) but it was pushed aside as platonic because two women in love didn't sit well with men in ancient greece. In that case, okay go ahead and make her romantically attracted, but don't limit it to girls. Because she canonically loved Orion. It's very clear because they both had decided to get married. So going by myths, wouldn't she be biromantic? Why erase that? If it's your headcanon or an AU then fine, you do you. I have zero problems. But stop claiming that Artemis is a lesbian in Greek mythology and invalidating others who see her as aroace. (this especially relevant to the PJO fandom. So many of them got mad when RR said that he interprets Artemis as aro and ace. They jumped on him saying how she's a lesbian icon and how he robbed them of representation. Please, it's spelt out in the hymns that she was uninterested in sex and romance. That's a reason she has been seen as an ace icon for years. It's not lesbophobia)
Lastly, about Artemis' hunters: A lot of people think see her as a lesbian because she lived in the forest with a group of nymphs. But I hope they know that those nymphs were mostly very young girls (in one hymn to Artemis, they're 9 years old). They are with Artemis because they've not reached the age of marriage. Because it was Artemis' job to protect girls of that age. So the idea of Artemis having a gay paradise with her nymphs in the woods is uncomfortable to me. (although, I believe some of her companions like Callisto, Britomartis were older).
TLDR; according to poets, Artemis didn't feel romantic or sexual desires. But if you're going to make her romantic, remember that she fell in love with a man too.

tbh one thing I hate about the Hellenic community is that you legit aren’t. allowed to vocally disagree with people’s interpretations.
you very much have to go by all interpretations are possible as the Theoi are multifaceted in ways we cannot comprehend.
and this is true in many ways! there are many ways you may interact with the same deities I do and get different results.
but like...... the Theoi still have general concepts that you can’t just ignore, not just bc you may not have experienced it but bc it can erase histories of oppressed groups.
I would say the common ones are Artemis and Athene as lesbians. Now, I’m gonna focus mainly on Artemis here bc I personally feel there’s slightly more evidence on her side.
Artemis has always been portrayed as a goddess of girls and young women with a specific distaste for men. This is a portrayal that goes back a long, long way. Is it universal? well no nothing in the Theoi’s portrayals is universal. In Arcadia, Artemis was neither Apollon’s sister nor the goddess of the hunt, she was the goddess of nymphs.
Based on this, I think it’s fair to say Artemis was seen as disliking men. It’s also important to take in the context of virgin at the time- women weren’t seen as being capable of choosing sex or even enjoying it. On top of that, it’s weird to me that people use Artemis being considered a chaste goddess to argue that she’s ace, when like. We have goddesses that refused all forms of romantic intimacy- Hestia, for example, would make more sense as an aroace goddess.
But Artemis? Didn’t just say no to marriage and romance, she actively rejected men. It was forbidden for men to see her naked... but not women. And sure, there’s all sorts of things you can argue here but the point of it is: in the most common myths, Artemis rejected men and killed those who tried to get her anyway, and spent her time with a group of wild women and nymphs who had all chosen to give up their lives, marriages, and families for freedom in the woods.
Which is why a lot of lesbians relate to her and say ‘yeah, that sounds gay.’
Did the ancient Greeks specifically say she was interested in women? No of fucking course not. That wasn’t a concept they had, the idea of two women being in love was such a ridiculous concept to them that it allowed Sappho to get away with what she did because everyone assumed it wasn’t about her.
But things like rejecting men, being surrounded by other women who have done the same, and doing things that aren’t traditionally feminine all would make most people be read as a lesbian.
Athene is similar in that she was seen as often taking on masculine positions and hanging out with men more, despite rejecting marriage to one. This could be read in similar ways, but I’m not familiar enough with her to feel comfortable elaborating on it.
There’s also things such as Hekate being a goddess of trans women, Aphrodite being seen as a trans woman in certain areas, and Dionysos being read as trans. None of these are flat out clear things stated bc while trans people existed, they weren’t called that. But there were priestxs of Hekate who were often described as men taking on women’s roles, Dionysos was considered ‘male’ but often shown in very androgynous fashion alongside his childhood.
These things happened constantly. There are absolutely deities that were considered gay or trans or bi but it was never written down because those words didn’t exist and those people were already being oppressed in certain ways. It’s one thing to just not personally work with a concept or facet of a deity- there’s parts of all the Theoi that we just aren’t meant to see and that’s how this religion is!
But it’s another to actively say ‘actually I feel Artemis is aroace bc I just want to’. Like yes, hellenismos is a very flexible religion in many ways. But you also can’t just.... take away divine representation of oppressed people bc you like another idea better
also this is specifically about deities where there’s mythological or historical info leading people to these conclusions. like I see Aphrodite as a lesbian or at least bi and while I think it’s pointless to see her as straight, it’s not like it’s actively taking away a long history bc Aphrodite as a goddess commonly worshipped by lesbians is very recent/was restricted to Lesbos, unlike Artemis being worshipped by lesbians and gnc women or Aphrodite’s representations as trans.
