Because of the cold weather Monty will have me help him take care of the reptiles. We’ll be in the reptile room, often as The Incredibly Deadly Viper is wrapped around my body like a cross between an overgrown puppy and a long scarf, as we go over poetry and music. Often times Sunny, Klaus and Violet will join us.

When it rains my Grandfather, The Storyteller likes to pass his time the way he always does (or in any day that ends in a Y) and that is with a story. My hair done up in a towel, sitting by the warm fire with Dog as he starts to spin one marvellous tale after another. 

My favourite grandson from the future Bart likes to watch movies with me. We being out lots of sweets and cakes and pick a ton of films to watch. He says it helps him play catch up with the modern day, which I think is a lie but don’t tell him that. Often its family movies that I pick, but I also make him watch some scottish media to let him know where he gets some of his snarkiness from.

excuse my autism for a moment; he'd love the muppets. we all know it. you're so right, ri. especially in their more chaotic era. back when kermit still had an attitude and a tendency to go crazy go stupid. i have a gut feeling peter would get a kick out of jim henson's more obscene skits. but of course, mahna mahna is a classic. can't ever go wrong with mahna mahna.

mf would've loved the muppet bohemian rhapsody cover.

i rly wanna assign animal as his fav muppet, but we can never really predict these things. it's just...c'mon...he'd love any member of electric mayhem, really. esp dr teeth. seems right up his alley.

i bet he'd also rly like the wilkin's coffee commercials. he would've been a lil baby when they aired. but if he ever saw them later...oh my god...theyd have him laughing his ass off.

you're a genius btw. an absolute living legend. patrick bateman surrounded only by a cast of muppets - but still playing out the same plotline is the funniest shit. paul allen huey lewis and the news scene, but patrick chops up a jared leto muppet instead. poetic cinema

Today's Black History Month illustration is of Matthew Henson, the first Black Arctic explorer and a part of the small group considered to be the first to reach the geographic North Pole in 1909.

Matthew Alexander Henson was born in 1866 in Maryland. He was the son of two freeborn Black sharecroppers. When Henson was 4, his father moved the family to Washington DC for better work opportunities. His parents died early on and Henson and his siblings were left with other family members.

When Henson was 11, he left home to find his own way. He walked from DC all the way to Baltimore, Maryland and found work as a cabin boy on the ship Katie Hines. The skipper, Captain Childs, took Henson under his wing and educated him. Also, while being a cabin boy, he travelled to Asia, Africa, and Europe.

After Captain Child passed, he made his way back to Washington DC. In 1887, while working in a store, Henson met Robert E. Peary, who hired him as a valet for his next expedition to Nicaragua. Peary was impressed with Henson’s skills and all around resourcefulness and employed him as an attendant on seven expeditions to the Arctic.

On April 6, 1909, Henson, Peary, and four Inuit guides, Egingwah, Ooqueah, Ootah, and Seeglo, drove their dogsleds to the North Pole. It’s said that Henson arrived alone at what he thought was the North Pole. Peary caught up to him an hour later and refused to accept Henson’s calculation. Peary then chose a different location and called it the North Pole.

When they returned home from the expedition, Peary received most of the accolades for the trip even though Henson was technically first. And despite the accolades, the team faced a lot of skepticism, and Peary had to testify before Congress about the lack of proof of reaching the North Pole.

By order of President Taft, Henson was appointed clerk in the US Customs House in New York City and he also continued to talk about his experiences as an explorer. In 1912, he wrote the book A Negro Explorer at the North Pole. In 1937, when Henson was 70, he was accepted as an honorary member of the highly regarded Explorers Club. A few years later, he and the other members of the North Pole Expedition were awarded a Congressional Medal. In 1947, he worked with Bradley Robinson to write his biography, Dark Companion.

Henson died in NYC in 1955, but was reinterred at Arlington National Cemetery in 1987 at the request of Dr. S. Allen Counter of Harvard University.

okay okay okay. top 3 albums for summer? favourite book? favourite poem?

ok so. i'm not a party gay i'm a chill at the beach and go on hikes and get sunburnt at a cafe terrace while sipping a fruity little cocktail while i try to contain my third mental breakdown of the day gay. so my summer vibes are quite mellow. i'm gonna go with

when facing the things we turn away from by luke hemmings (lowkey favourite album of all time. this is more of a late august vibe)

heathers the musical soundtrack (for when i'm in a fun mood)

my favourite book used to be pride and prejudice but lowkey the raven cycle is becoming my fave. like maybe it's because it's the only thing i've read since high school but i really really love it. it's not one book though it's 4
