Understanding Lennon McCartney Rewatch Part 4.1
This is embarrassing but I'm actually so obsessed with the first five minutes of this episode that I've got it bookmarked in my YouTube account. It's just so perfect!
“Say you don't looooove him, my salamander. Then why did you neeeeeeed him? Ono don't answer.” He genuinely thinks need and love are the same and I really hope he's got therapy for that messed up mindset by now.
Officially honored as the most successful musical composer and recording artist of all time. That damn well better be mentioned in his movie. And people still don't take him seriously. But also. John definitely smashed his TV.
Tumblr media
I'm screaming. I love Linda the promoter so fucking much!! Interviewer: I knew a lot of your records had went gold and platinum and– Linda: a lot of them? All of them! Ugh I wish she was still with him now.
And then THIS! “What really happened between you and John?” As the first notes to “I Will Survive” play. It's too good. Everyone has to go watch that bit right now.
Linda coming in for the kill again with her fake posh accent: critics? Critics? Oooooh! … They're always three years behind.
Look at him (to the tune Bitch by Meredeth Brooks) he's a whore, he's a father, he's a star, he's a success, he's a lover he's smug, he's laughing, he's having fun, he's working hard. He's everything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Interviewing Wings concert goers and this one girl goes, "oh I just got off on all of it" and another one goes “It was great, i came twice!” Literally it should've been me!!!!
The McCartneys are seriously such a big family. And it's been Paul's responsibility since was about 21, really, to make sure they're all okay financially. That Francie story of him crumbling in the street in Liverpool haunts me.
"Why shouldn't they go to the same school as everyone else goes to?" State schools should be the only legal schools btw.
Tumblr media
I love what the creator does to contextualize their songs by pairing them with other contemporary footage. It makes it much easier for me to understand why something like “arrow through me” (which I love but none of the people I've shown it to do) would've been so popular.
Oh here we go again. Just show us the marriage certificate already.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cackling at the contrast between “Old Siam Sir” which is one of my all time fav rockers and footage of the Stones being cringe AF and Dylan being so beyond done he's basically dead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh. Okay. And then they slap us in the face with John's poor baby late 70s demo voice crooning, “Don't want your looooove. Anymore.” “I die each time I hear your name.” I'm fine. It's fine. I'm just vomiting my guts out because I'm sick. That's why.
The pairing of “Mr H Atom” with Paul's would've-been drag show is genius, but what is that clip of some sort of trial stuck in there? If anyone knows, please inform me. (16:15)
John sounds so sad talking about the “endless search for . . . Scotland . . . Within an hour of New York.” I can't help thinking of the Mull of Kintyre. But John was also the one who turned Paul on to Scotland in the first place, ≈always waxing poetic about the heather and the hills≈.
Sean is so adorable. Reminds me of my little guy a bit actually.
Why do I always want to tell Paul to be nice to John? John is worse to him. Idk maybe because John's pain is more visible.

nox's astrology q&a: your questions, my answers
i want to thank everyone again for being here and helping me to celebrate 2k!! without you all i would just be a nerdy chick with a mythos addiction. i thought the game was fun - i am already thinking that perhaps we should do one more before years end!! but in the meantime everyone who participated had some great questions for me, so here i am answering them!!!
Tumblr media
animals
@googiekookk : "do you have a favorite animal?"
i like crows :).
@mionas-world : "do you believe or have any familiars?"
i do believe in familiars! i have been wanting a black ragdoll cat for a while now - i might adopt one soon!!
@astrowomanland : "do you have any pets? actually i have dogs and they are absolutely cute and lovely! having pets will heal your heart." / @guregire : "are you a cat or dog person?"
aaaaaa - i completely agree!!! i have, over my lifetime, had 3 dogs and 5 cats! currently, i do not have a pet, but i do debate getting one from time to time. i am leaning more towards cat given my work schedule - i'm in my cat era!
music
@thelittlesunwitch : "are you listening to any new music? any new favorite artists or songs?"
i'm always on the hunt for new music - my "got bluetooth?" playlist is the dumping ground for anything i'm listening to at the moment!
@livelythoughts : "what music or artist do you like?"
anything but country because country reminds me of someone i would prefer to not think about. i love $uicideboy$, baby keem, eminem, kid cudi, lana del rey, lil darkie, melanie martinez, olivia rodrigo, tyler the creator, the weeknd, and yung gravy. here's one of my spotify playlists!
@starzzzzzlights : "what is your favorite music album?"
ooof i can't pick just one lol. heroes and villains by metro boomin, AM by arctic monkeys, awaken my love by childish gambino, black parade by my chemical romance, born to die by lana del rey, call me if you get lost by tyler the creator, currents by tame impala, dmz by kinneret, eternal grey by $uicideboy$, fallen by evanescence, flower boy by tyler the creator, gasnova by yung gravy, igor by tyler the creator, k-12 by melanie martinez, long term effects of suffering by $uicideboy$, the man on the moon trilogy by kid cudi, melodic blue by baby keem, nevermind by nirvana, sensational by yung gravy, the slim shady lp by eminem, smoke + mirrors by imagine dragons, ? by xxxtentacion, seventeen by xxxtentacion, sour by olivia rodrigo, stop staring at the shadows by $uicideboy$, swamp by lil darkie, and this doesn't exist by lil darkie.
@swordoftheseeker : "what is your favorite song, and/or a song that gets you emotional?"
favorite songs: i have so many; here is my define me playlist - aka the playlist whose songs resonate most with me. songs that make me emotional: "my immortal" by evanescence, "soon we'll be found" by sia, "still" by ben folds, "addicted" by kelly clarkson, "for the babies" by simply red, "winter song" by sara bareilles, "the hill" by marketa irglova, "hand me down" by matchbox twenty, "both sides now" by joni mitchell, "the beach" by the neighborhood, "orange juice" by melanie martinez, "need you now" by lady a, and "imagine" by john lennon.
my astro placements
@theghostadrift : "what is your main star sign?"
my sun sign is scorpio. my signature sign is scorpio. and my dominant sign is scorpio.
@museagerie : "what are your personal favorite placements from your chart?"
ooo that is tough i love a lot of my placements... being a circe dominant individual is fun. i love my scorpio moon, my 9h venus, and my 3h jupiter. my 8h nyx. idk i can go on for a long time especially with asteroids lol.
@honnuey : "do you have any 6th house stelliums in your chart?"
nope! i have no 6h placements! my stellium is in my 8h - my 6h ruler lives in the 8h though.
@e11e27 : "what indications in your natal and MC persona chart (with your career or money asteroids of choice) helped you decide what career path and strategies work best for you?"
as a sag mc person, i have come to the conclusion that i likely will never have a consistent career - the pluto conjunct mc from my 9h and opposite jupiter in my 3h certainly won't be of help on that matter either. so my charts are a bit of a bad explain when it comes to career planning. my plan is that there is no plan but to make money and enjoy what i do whilst doing so (that's such a sag mc thing to say lol). i have talked about my mc chart before so i will link that!
personal
@csmicixtte : "do you sometimes wish to work a different job?"
if in reference to the blog - absolutely not. if in reference to my real life job, nope i just started it a few weeks ago so (this is my fourth week), i plan to stay here for a bit.
@sliceofcinnamoroll : "what's your mbti type? i assume you're an introvert haha."
i am an ENTJ-T! i'm not an introvert, but i would consider myself an ambivert.
@selene-destiny-201 / @yonafswurld : "what is your favorite hobbies?" / "what are your hobbies aside from the astrology and mythology related side of things?"
aside from reading and the occult - i love art. i went to art school for photorealistic graphite drawings! but now i am rather interested in knitting, crocheting, and cross-stitching (right now i have made a pattern for a lake side sunset and i am making that - i'm about 810 stitches in).
@dutifullycrazycreation : "is there anything you would like to start as a hobby?"
oof that's tough. i already have a ton of hobbies lol - if i were to pick something up, perhaps i would pick up pottery, crystal tumbling, candle making, soap making, or embroidery (i mean i already cross stitch so embroidery is right around the corner lol).
@seungmim : "what is your favourite season?"
FALL. i adore fall -> seasons ranked: fall, summer, winter, and spring.
@thescorpiourge : "what advice would you give to your younger self?"
learn to say "no" - while "yes" will get you places and give you experiences, "no" will give you better control of your life.
@miraclekay97 : "do you have a favorite children's book?"
the giving tree, charlotte's web, or the miraculous journey of edward tulane.
@neptxn3 : "which was your favorite mythological figure or creature that you learned about in your spare time?"
ORPHEUS. orpheus is my favorite mythical hero!!! as for a creatures - yetis are the cutest (shoutout to my boy ziggy).
@heart-of--a-child : "do you have a favorite bingeing show you watch in your free time?"
yes!! my go to rewatch/comfort shows that i often binge are gilmore girls, game of thrones, rick and morty, gravity falls, and avatar the last airbender.
@queenlear : "what are your favourite movies?"
ooof that's tough i have a whole list. i would say my top 5 are pride and prejudice (2005), us (2019), emma. (2020), midsommar (2019), and the princess bride (1978)!
@sayaliii : "what's your favourite childhood memory?"
i had a holiday break when i was in sixth grade and my mother and i got snowed in. the snow was not the funny / best part of this it was the fact that the power went out and i had a school project to do. in sixth grade all the history classes had you build a medieval shield or a castle. i built a castle basically in lamp light and whilst eating cookies. it was a rather large cardboard box medieval castle - painted grey and black with a functional portcullis.
@mbelair : "what is your favorite memory of this year so far?"
UGHHHH I DISCOVERED MY FAVORITE TACO PLACE. that's my favorite memory for this year. it's like a local shack lol. but they have so much good stuff though - their milkshakes are so good AND THEY SELL ALLIGATOR. i have never had alligator until this year lol.
spirituality & the occult
@lavieenrosess : "how long have you been spiritual? is it something you just know intuitively that you are or did you see signs (and this is assuming you are)?"
i have been intuitively inclined all my life; i'm "claircognizant" - i have always known things that i really shouldn't. ex: as a child (3 or 4 years old), i would pose in photos with my pointer finger flush to my cheekbone - my grandmother freaked out when she saw that because that's the same pose my great grandmother (my namesake) use to do. it's not signs, it's more like random thoughts coming into my mind that aren't mine? that probably isn't the finest description - but it's the best way i can describe it.
@linnienin : "for how long have you been studying tarot, astrology and the matrix of destiny?"
tarot i'm nearing a decade, astrology i was introduced to when i was 6 or 7, and the matrix i am learning live right alongside you as i post (so since the first wyrd web post)!
@jupitersessence - "i'd like to know what drew you to astrology, tarot, the study of the web of wyrd and such. i know we all have our own ways of stumbling upon these topics, but what was it that made you want to continue with this?"
i have talked about the first part before - for astrology, it was the pandemic that reawakened my love and passion for astronomy, especially the asteroids because i saw people were not all that informed on the myths behind them. as for tarot, my grandmother gave me her mother's tarot deck in middle school and i have practiced ever since! for the web - the matrix is newer to me but has a close relationship with tarot, so, naturally, i am interested! i continue because i have a natural curiosity for what makes us "us" - i feel like all these tools can help us to reflect on who we are and why we are the way we are and that is just beautiful to me. a spiritual journey is never complete! no one masters any of these things - we just level up and learn new things as we go (i.e. space is infinite; how can you be a master at astrology? there are thousands of nuisances to astrology that will always need exploring)!
@i-can-get-back-on : "which esoteric tool (astrology, tarot, etc) you first learned how to use vs. the most recent one you've learned how to use - and maybe which tool you've resonated with the most!" / @greathologramobservation : "how did you get into divination and which was the first one you learnt and practiced?"
let's see - tarot is the first tool that i actively used and promoted to others (like i started with astrology but only read my own chart - where as tarot i have been reading for others for a while now (almost a decade)). most recently i picked up lenormand (which i haven't seen many people talk about). i resonate with nearly all the tools i use. the one that i feel like i am still getting use to though is runes (like the fact that mine is dice and a deck makes it tricky to me lol).
@loonaticpoe : "since when have u been into astrology / tarot and how long did it take 4 u to master it ? can u also leave an advice 4 new learners like me if u want ?"
i have talked about my origins in both studies before, take a look at the other questions because its up there. as for the second part, in my opinion i don't see mastery as a possibility, only high competence and experience. as for advice ALWAYS question what you read and ALWAYS look into the qualifications of who you are learning from. if they can't tell you their source or their accreditation, then they aren't someone you should be learning from. spend time with each of your studies and don't be afraid to spend a long time on small portions.
@siren-honey : "what advice would you give to anyone regarding their spiritual journey? or just advice for life in general?"
for spiritual journey guidance - always start your study where your interest lies and stay away from google unless you are looking up credibility or physical (book) resources. for general life advice, be kind - be you and be that well. recognize that no one is perfect and you can never really know all that someone has been through, so be gentle with others. you only ever see a fraction of a person's experiences in life and they only ever see a fraction of yours - so try to be gentle with others as you would want them to be gentle with you.
@galaxiesandstarss : "what's your fav sign from the zodiacs?"
capricorn <3 i don't have favorites... but capricorn lol.
@melaniee4350 : "what are your favorite astrological placements in general and/or about your own chart?"
i answered the part about my own chart earlier. as for other peoples charts, i love fire placements - sag placements in particular!!! i love capricorns too. particularly capricorns moon <3 (love y'all). aries mars people have my heart too.
@white-tale-tea : "do you have any favorite placements or aspects in astrology?"
i answered the placements part in the question above but aspects!!! ask any of my astro-friends here, i always tell them i love a good ole opposition - the tension between two planets is immaculate!!
@wutt : "which placement do you find the most comfortable to hang out with?"
i feel the most comfortable around those with sagittarius, capricorn, and/or virgo placements!
@i-am-empress-irish : "do you have a favorite deck?"
OOO i have a special place in my heart for kim krans's wild unknown!
@karmicbitchastro : "do you ever base your real life decisions on tarot?"
no. i use it to reflect on a situation mainly. i don't base life decisions on astrology either!
@covillhaa : "how long have you been on tumblr and from where did you learn about destiny matrix charts?"
since my post on eros - shoutout to @astrosky33 for introducing me to tumblr! as for the matrix, i am learning right alongside you :). i will link my post on resources for the matrix.
@haileycannotcometothephonern : "what is your favourite prediction tool? for example, using astrological transits or through tarot or other means? and which do you think is more accurate in general?"
hmmm i'm going to go with RETURN CHARTS. y'all know i adore return charts; mine have always been quite accurate so *shrug*! i do feel like all divination has its place though; i never just use return charts only (i still do tarot, transits, etc.).
@viyarisemoon : "have you thought about opening paid reading services in the future?"
i have paid readings options typically; they will be linked at the bottom of the post as per usual.
travel
@nl107 : "do you like to travel and if so do you have a favorite place to travel?"
i do enjoy traveling, but i haven't traveled since 2018 sadly. my favorite place that i have been is little italy in new york and labadee in haiti!
@fgggjjdfbikeefujrdgjohrwaxhombd : "what's a city / country you wanna visit / or your most memorable travel?"
i talked about my favorite trip in the last question! but i want very badly to go to italy. i promised my grandmother as well that i would visit wales for her.
university
@coffeecoffie : "what's major in uni?"
if you poke around a bit on here, you'll find i was an english literature major. and before that, i was a forensic psychology major.
@sunxastroblog : "how did you get interested in such a topic [mythology]? have you learned at school / took classes or you're self-taught? which branch of mythology are you currently still learning?"
i have always loved books. i have talked about my who first introduced me to mythology before (that post is linked above in the what drew me to the occult question). but most of the mythology that i post is self taught - based on books i read in my spare time. part 3 of asteroids that aren't getting more attention than this was from what i learned in my senior fall semester of uni though! i am still learning all the branches of mythology if i am being honest! anyone that claims they have read all the classic literature of a culture and knows all of a set myth is lying. there is always more to read - particularly, i find that true of norse mythos!!
@moanafromthedarkages : "how has been your college experience??"
when was in high school, i submitted 10 applications and got into all of them even columbia university (ivy). but i didn't know what i wanted to do and i didn't feel secure about traveling far from home (a gut feeling). so i went to a community college as of 2019 - when i started college i wanted to be an OBGYN. i took a weeding class right off the bat to find out if it was for me and the answer was a fat no - anatomy and physiology was the bane of my existence (despite my prof saying my dissection technique was quite good). in 2020, i was feeling better about college and it was the week before spring break when i asked my sociology professor what will happen to society if it stands still and she told me "nothing good". we went on break and i never returned to the campus except to pick up my degree. in my final spring semester (2021) at the community college, i met a boy and he inspired me transfer and continued my degree. i applied to 5 colleges and got into 3 because 2 of them wouldn't accept me without my father's tax records (i'm estranged from my father so *shrug*). i selected my uni based on the money they gave me to go there and the parking situation haha. i commuted to my university because i still was wasn't comfortable with strangers and the pandemic (during the first year of the pandemic alone my family members went through 2 surgeries and had many experiences having COVID). so i started at my uni. my first semester was a cultural shift - i didn't realize that your GPA resets when you transfer. i was shoved into a bunch of classes that weren't related to the major i selected. it was a struggle. in november, i started experiencing social anxiety and depression and i just pushed through my first semester. my gpa was bad, i was worried my academic scholarship would get revoked, etc. my holiday break, i spent on the couch - my depression was so bad that my mother was sort of frustrated/upset when telling me to get help. my semester started and i was taking 6 classes trying to catch up. i was so anxious that i got physically ill and my menstrual cycles were progressively worse i skipped days because i physically couldn't leave the couch i got physically ill from that too. i had to drop one of my classes... i was afraid of getting sick in front of other and in class. by the end of the semester, i was starting to think that maybe i should just drop out and the school counselor was advising the same plus to seek in-patient treatment somewhere. i got a new therapist because that one and the one before sucked (no offense - but quitting is never the answer in my eyes). my new therapist suggested online school, a gap year, etc. but of all her suggestions changing my major was the most promising. that summer (2022), i took 3 online courses all literature based and got a 4.0. in the last few weeks of summer, i moved homes and i was anxious about being in person again with the mask policy lifted, my menstrual struggles, not knowing anyone in my new major (except my department chair and the one professor i had a for a summer class), etc. the first day i was on campus, i went to my advisor and told her i wanted more classes online and she told me no. my nose started bleeding (the menstrual medication they had me on helped my symptoms but cause other issues) in that meeting. i went to my first class with blood on my jeans and a crush-n-go ice pack to my nose. i sat in the front of my class stressing and feeling hopeless - two minutes to the start of class was when a boy sat down next to me. he became my best friend in that college. i survived that semester. in the spring semester, i started a new medications for my menstrual cycle and i felt even better. i thrived in that last year at my uni - i got awards, made friends, etc. i graduated cum laude - and now i miss it. i think of college fondly despite the suffering i endure throughout my experience.

we are the exact same re rankings. 1989 was her ONLY good pop album and i will die on this hill. everything after 1989 has been a sad attempt to recreate that magic. and even then? 1989 is not better than red or folklore. rep, Lover and midnights are tragedies. how do you think people (fans and gen pop) would perceive her if she didnt have folklore+evermore? i wonder if eras tour would be the success that it is if not for folkmore...
i LOVE this question thank u for asking… personally i think midnights/lover/rep have some higher highs than 1989 but 1989 is more consistently great. her other pop albums have some really sweet moments that i think are lacking from 1989 (yail and clean are the exceptions to this but otherwise while 1989 has some pure pop perfection, it doesn’t have the same emotional appeal to me that her earlier albums do. it’s very much created for radio, which i think is why it’s soooo successful!) i think lover was the clear proof that if folkmore had not come out, she would’ve just sort of tapered off. i think 1989 would have always been her peak. she would’ve kept making music but i don’t think she would’ve found MORE success, it definitely wouldn’t be anything like today. however, midnights seems to have made her even MORE famous than i ever thought was possible. folkmore introduced her and endeared her to a new audience, a more mature adult one imo, but midnights cemented that superstardom even tho in my opinion it’s pretty bad lmao. but people love it! it’s hard bc in my opinion, folkmore was a peak that showed how fucking incredible she is as an artist and how incredibly good she is at capturing a cultural moment and putting broad emotions into the perfect words, but midnights sort of specified who her audience is? it’s old swifties obviously but it’s also this new rabid breed of stans that were created on twitter in the last few years that seemingly don’t even like her that much but like the label of BEING a swiftie? if that makes sense? idk, my opinion gets in the way of all this bc folkmore to ME made it clear she still has what i desire from her in an artist and i’ll be here forever but midnights seemed to cement her to the public as a star? idk!

this has been tumbling around in my mind for the last week so now i have to expose all of you to it. shoutout to @wellgoslowly for listening to this in person
lockwood LOVES listening to classic rock and metal (as well as a few older pop-punk but he'll never admit to it). anything from the seventies and eighties (he pretends that no other era of metal exists and if you even say the phrase "nu metal" around him he WILL see red and draw his rapier). it doesn't matter who the band is or what subgenre they are, as long as the song was released pre-nineties he loves it, although he tends to prefer more mainstream bands and artists (respect) like ozzy osbourne, judas priest, kiss, etc. the only band he will break this rule for is metallica - they are his all-time favorite band and i will die on that hill. and when i say he WORSHIPS james hetfield... that is an UNDERSTATEMENT. james is like a pseudo-father to him. he doesn't want to put posters on his walls so he keeps a scrapbook of pictures cut out of old magazines of james, lars, kirk, cliff, even jason and rob. he is a number one dave mustaine hater and will defend lars's drumming skills until he's blue in the face. lucy got him a signed copy of ride the lightning for his birthday one year and george didn't see either of them leave lockwood's room for a week. there are only three things he loves in this world: his family, his friends, and james hetfield.
lucy, i feel like, has the most whiplash taste in music. like, yes, we can all agree lucy is your average indie pop listener and i am a major supporter of that hc (i know what linnie’s playlists sound like) but i guarantee you when she shuffles her most-listened-to playlist it goes from crane wives immediately to cannibal corpse. she loves death metal, deathcore, goregrind; the nastier the better (except for black metal - iykyk). the era doesn’t matter to her either although she tends to gravitate toward the older stuff. think opeth, cryptosy, morbid angel, deicide, obituary, venom, slayer, even xavlegimaofffassssitimiwoanindutroabcwapwaeiippohfffx - she loves playing the “can i figure out the name of the band given the logo” game and if she loses she listens to them. she finds it a great way to unleash her stress and anger without hurting herself or others or even taking it out on a case. she doesn't like to mosh (autism) but she loves watching people in the pit at concerts. she drags lockwood and george to the store to help her pick out plushies to give to corpsegrinder. one night she goes to a taylor swift concert and rushes out at the end to make it to sanguisugabogg in time. she's also a big female-rage/female-led fan (fem supporting fem yk how it is). if there is even a single fem-presenting band member she is instantly ride-or-die (within reason, of course). any time conquer divide/castrator/cyrpta do an eu tour she essentially becomes a roadie.
george. oh, george. my beloved kin. the only one who understands me and i him. his taste in rock and metal is... i don't know a better way to describe it other than neurodivergent fruity. it needs to have some kind of element to it that he can latch onto other than just the music - costumes, over-the-top production, detailed lore, etc. like lockwood, he doesn't really care about the subgenre; as long as he likes the sound he'll listen. he tends to frequent more of the nu/prog/melodic/symphonic side of metal, though. he's your average autistic ghost fan and makes it everyone else's problem. he knows all the lore and has dedicated his life to every incarnation of papa (primo is his favorite but he loves them all). he can tell the ghouls in every era apart in an instant and is a consistent quintessence ghoul kinnie. he will not hesitate to get into twitter beef to defend his opinions (bro's in the trenches of toxic ghostwt). he's one of the most well-known ghost accounts on every social media platform and actively writes fanfiction (about the characters, NOT the real people), character analyses, and essays. he's also a HUGE sleep token fan (he understands their lore better than vessel himself and has created a youtube commentary channel just to break down each of their songs) and ice nine kills fan (he's a number one ricky armellino lover and has forced lockwood and lucy to watch all of the horror movies that the silver scream one and two are based off of). he loves avatar and made his own ringmaster costume (lucy walked in on him trying to recreate johannes's makeup and slowly backed out of the room; the situation was never mentioned again) and when chris motionless unveiled his new hair he screamed so loud that the others thought someone had broken into portland row (lockwood had to restrain him while lucy hid his laptop to prevent him from ordering purple hair dye). he has a ziplock bag of (definitely expired) marshmallows that he calls his “rammstein concert care package.” he pretends to be a gatekeeper but the instant someone mentions even a passing interest in any of his favorite bands he will burst into tears.
skull enjoys smooth jazz.

Come Nightfall deleted scenes: Bobby Vinton
Tumblr media
[in which Edward and Bella are listening to music in her room negotiating a deal to get her to the birthday party]
“What the hell is this?”
Edward glanced down at the laptop like he’d forgotten what he was doing. “I’ve embarked on a quest.”
Already, I could feel the tension melting out of the air. Again, I tipped back in my chair and looked at him from over my shoulder. “And that is?”
His eyes glittered, trailing down the screen. “I need songs that make me feel how you make me feel.”
“I’m sure there’s a song called ‘Stick In The Mud.’”
“I already added it,” he said, throwing me a wink.
As the singer’s vibrato trailed to the end of the measure, I leaned back further in my chair and roamed the ceiling with my eyes, musing. “So, what, you feel ‘Blue Velvet’ about me?”
“What’s with the tone? This is a classic.”
“No tone.” He studied my face. “It's just. Tony Bennett, The Clovers, Gene Ammons—fantastic ‘Blue Velvet’s. Out of all those great covers, you pick Bobby Vinton?”
Edward’s campaign to get me to like Bobby Vinton was about as aggressive as his campaign to get me to love Elvis Presley’s Girls Girls Girls. If he liked something, he tended to be unrelenting about it. And he loved 1950s crap.
He could never know about the painting I’d made listening to only Bobby Vinton. (Bobby Vinton Sings for Lonely Nights, obviously. It fit the theme of my life.) I couldn’t give him the satisfaction. Bobby Vinton was one of the least inspiring artists of the 1950s. I would die on that hill.
“What is your problem with him? You’ve never given me a straight answer.”
I scrunched up my face like I’d eaten a lemon. When he rolled his eyes, I reached out to him. The chair’s two legs slid out from under it. I squealed as I plunged to the floor.
Edward caught the backrest. His head looming over me eclipsed my bedroom light. He raised a brow.
“Oh, Edward. He’s melodramatic trash.” Edward let go of the chair. I yelped and seized him by the shirt to catch myself from falling. “Stop! It’s truth!”
He’d already caught the backrest again, grinning at my reaction. Our bare skin brushing together felt like fire had erupted in my veins. My head swam.
“The first line of your favorite Simon & Garfunkel song is ‘Hello darkness my old friend’—”
“No, ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water,’ duh.”
“Please, talk to me about melodramatic trash. I’m all ears.”
With one hand on the chair, Edward held out his other hand to me. I took his hand, crawled out of the tilted chair and settled into his lap, peering back at his laptop screen.
“Bobby Vinton is a total square.”
What little rift remained dissolved when I cuddled in next to him, when our skin met, when we melted into each other. No iron curtain. Just us, grazing each other’s skin and kissing and nuzzling, something second-nature.
“Bobby Vinton had more Billboard 100 hits from 1962 through 19—”
“You only like him cuz he wrote ‘Mr. Lonely.’”
“—than any other male voca— Not true.”
“So true. Oh my god. You’ve played that song like fifty billion times. You’re a sucker for melodrama.” The sparkle in his eyes dulled and a grin cracked over my face. “What? I’ve been listening to your fifties garbage all summer. I’m allowed to have an opinion.”
He flipped me onto my back and pulled me by the hips into him. “You seemed to like my fifties garbage,” he purred in my ear, “as I recall, Miss Swan. And I’ve listened to plenty of your six-minute 70s rock-operas, so shut your mouth.”
As if on cue, the dream-pop song dissolved into Elton John’s ‘Tiny Dancer’.
“Oh, Isabella, get your lips off me, for god’s sake, I’m trying to be mad at you…”
I didn’t stop nipping at his neck. Edward hips shifted underneath me; I could feel him swallow back a moan.
Yeah. That song was on our summer playlist. Back in an era when Edward was, as he called, “reckless with his boundaries.”
“Hm. That’s a good trade,” I mused to myself.
He was “reckless with his boundaries” when I listened to his fifties garbage, too. But I knew he’d prefer for me not to bring it up.
“What, listening to your crap music?”
“No.” I combed my fingers through Edward’s hair, twisting the locks into their usual wild shape. Pondering. Another little negotiating trick I’d picked up.
The fact that Edward knew I was plotting but couldn’t hear my thoughts drove him crazy. Anticipation killed him. Give him a mystery and he got huffy with impatience—another cute trait of his and, in situations like these, it proved very convenient.
Edward huffed.
My lips trailed up his neck; his gruff turned into a sigh. “So if I can’t bring up the change—”
“You can’t.”
“—can I negotiate for something else?” Softer, in his ear, I said, “Including but not limited to a kiss?”
My hot breath on his cold neck made him shudder instinctively. “Kiss, singular? I’m not sure I’ve ever gotten that request.”
“My expectations have officially hit rock bottom.”
“Quite the charmer, Miss Swan.”
Most days, I didn’t have trouble convincing him for one measly kiss. And one always carried on long, so it was really more like one and a half. If he had just hunted or if I had just said something sweet or if we kissed during a song he liked, we could push it to two and a half. And since two and a half was basically three—
By the time he leaned closer and pressed his icy lips to mine, my head spun with the smell of him; the spicy, warm scent on him intoxicated me. I wrapped my arms around his neck and locked myself to him. The hunger for more energy—more intoxication, more power, more of him—tore through me.
When he tore himself away, we breathed ragged against each other’s lips.
“I can’t discuss—that,” he said. “The change. Not now. Please do not ask me again.”
I nodded. My hands roamed the sensitive parts of his exposed skin, reading his reactions like a map written in braille.
Edward growled low and deep; it rolled out of him like a warning. I stroked the side of his throat with my thumb; his tongue flicked across my skin.
He continued in a low voice. “But if you’re hellbent on getting a good deal out of your birthday—” I chuckled softly at him. “—I’ll do my best to meet your terms, whatever they may be. I will try.”
I kissed his cheek.
“Be good,” he said, his fingers roaming down my chest. He took his hand away and it settled on my hip. A promising reaction.
“Okay,” I murmured.
He kept my forehead glued to his to prevent me from attacking his neck. His bare skin touching mine felt like someone was pouring effervescent champagne over my brain and letting it run down the rest of me.
We stayed there, holding each other, for a long while.

🎵💿 discography tag 💿🎵
Rules: pick an artist or a band and share your favorite song from each of their albums, then tag some mutuals!
Tagged by: @hiscrimsonangel (thanks for the tag, Scarlet ❤️)
My chosen artist: Metallica
Tagging: (no pressure, as always 😊) @musicmoviestv @live-love-be-unique @big-ope-vibes @jamdoughnutmagician @eddiemunsonwillbethedeathofme @princess-josephina @enchante-em @aftermidnightwriting
P.S.: It's really simple as that, pick an artist, and list the favorite song of each of their albums. It's just that. Please don't mind me here, I chose a band with many albums, and I was having so much fun doing this that I basically converted it to a personal journal post and have added a small comment, my favorite lines of each song, and the link to spotify, making it a way longer and complex post than it needed to be 😂
---
Album: Kill 'Em All - Song: Seek & Destroy
I love its mini-solos, and the feeling when you are in one of their concerts and James sings "Searching..." and you and everyone there shout in unison, "SEEK AND DESTROY!" is awesome!
🎶"Searching | Seek and Destroy"
Album: Ride the Lightning - Song: For Whom The Bell Tolls
Probably my favorite song intro, and one of the few songs of them that my mom listened to (and liked). The anti-war vibes of it are great too.
🎶"For a hill, men would kill — Why? They do not know"
Album: Master of Puppets - Song: Master of Puppets
A classic! Another great song in their concerts, the "MASTER! MASTER!" echoing always pumps me up! And Eddie Munson, my beloved, gave me more reasons to love this song ❤️
🎶"Come crawling faster | Obey your master | Your life burns faster | Obey your master, master"
Album: ...And Justice for All - Song: One
I love the different tunes/styles that you have during the song. I remember how impacted I was when I first heard/understood the lyrics. (And the pyrotechnics used when they are playing this live are so cool!) (It was also a hell of a song to beat when playing Guitar Hero)
🎶"Darkness imprisoning me | All that I see, absolute horror | I cannot live, I cannot die | Trapped in myself, body my holding cell"
Album: Metallica (The Black Album) - Song: The Unforgiven
I got this LP record as a gift when I was younger, it was the first one of their albums that I owned and I listened to it sooo many times - so most of its songs have a special place in my heart. But "The unforgiven" is special to me (the whole 'trilogy'), I have a connection with it that I cannot put in words.
🎶"This fight he cannot win | A tired man they see no longer cares | The old man then prepares to die regretfully | That old man here is me"
Album: Load - Song: King Nothing
Every time I was in a "satisfaction post-revenge" mode, this was the song of choice😂
🎶"But the castle crumbled and you're left with just a name | Where's your crown, King Nothing?"
Album: Reload - Song: The Unforgiven II
This was my go-to music when I was having trust issues or during a heartbreak when I was a teenager.
🎶"What I've felt, what I've known | Turn the pages, turn the stone | Behind the door, should I open it for you?"
Album: St. Anger - Song: Frantic
While this is my favorite song of this album, I don't listen to it much nowadays cuz it's too linked to some memories of times when I was struggling and didn't handle it too well.
🎶"Could I have my wasted days back | Would I use them to get back on track? | You live it or lie it! | My lifestyle determines my deathstyle"
Album: Death Magnetic - Song: The Unforgiven III
I love how this song 'concludes' the unforgiven storyline, I think it has a great melody and I love the lyrics touching the matter of self-forgiving
🎶"How can I be lost if I've got nowhere to go? | (…) And how can I blame you when it's me I can't forgive?"
Album: Hardwired... to Self-Destruct - Song: Spit Out the Bone
Not only do I like the vibes of the melody, but the whole theme of wondering how much we are depending/putting ourselves into technology, if it's (or not) helping, and how far it will go always attract me, no matter the media type 😂
🎶"Plug into me I guarantee devotion | Plug into me and dedicate | Plug into me and I'll save you from emotion | Plug into me and terminate"

the stuff you should know about me
Hi! I figured I'd make an introduction post for me to pin (since that's what everyone else is doing apparently) so here's everything you need to know about me:
If there's anything I missed or you want to know, feel free to ask me about it! I'm completely fine with getting random asks.
I'm AC39 (you can just call me Cake), I'm 18* years old and I live in Australia, and I have ADHD. All this stuff is in the bio so I don't have to repeat it. I came to Tumblr due to the great Reddit rapture as an r/196 native, so I'm very new to how stuff works around here, but I'll get used to it.
As you may have noticed, I LOVE the colour orange. Basically all of my personal belongings are orange (including clothes). Why orange? Who knows. I don't even like eating oranges.
Some of my actual hobbies are programming and game development. I haven't made any complete games as of yet, but I've been learning various coding languages for as long as I remember (and I'm not good at any of them lol). Currently I'm learning C++*, mainly as a way for me to get a better understanding of object-oriented programming before getting into game dev. Of course, math is also one of my personal hobbies, just not as much.
I also like just generally knowing about new things! If you see me reblogging really long posts about niche subjects then that's why. I'll try not to flood my blog with them that often(people don't like long posts for some reason)
Some other things to know:
Music: my favourite genres are breakcore and speedcore, my favourite music artist is Sunnexo, my (current) favourite song is Aegleseeker by Silentroom and Frums*.
Movies/Shows: don't really watch many of them, so my opinions on them are pretty limited. don't be surprised if I don't understand a show or movie reference
Video Games: all-time favourites include Geometry Dash (that's where the pfp comes from), Celeste, and Quaver. Rhythm games are one of my personal favourite genres and I've put a lot of time into them (I was once close to the top 1000 in quaver, but since then I've drifted towards other games)
Gender/Sexuality*: yeah i'll get back to you on that one. just use he/him.
Food: I have the pallete of a 9 year old. Favourite food is pizza (not cake, as many have assumed). Also, fun fact: I've never eaten a banana in my life. Never. I'm still willing to die on that hill.
Animals: never had any actual pets, the closest I've had to a pet is my neighbour's cat (Thomas). favourite type of pet are cats, but my favourite animal is a red panda (if you know what they look like, then you'd know why I like them so much)
Blahaj?: Yes. Two of them, actually (a big one and a small one).
That's about as much info as I can regurgitate for now. If you're the one person that has read to this point, hi! hello! whats up!. I'll try to put some more stuff here if I remember.
* subject to change.

i'm sorry but you and the person in your replies are stupid if you think "we all agree israel should be kicked from the show ❤️" is a good excuse to watch and fund by viewing a TV show that OPENLY supports israel and zionism, going as far as even having a ZIONIST SONG win one of the contests. what you're basically saying is, "Yeah, we all agree, amazon should treat its workers better ❤️" then ordering next day delivery. european or not, you're dismissing the struggles and suffering of palestinians and funding a show that openly supports israel and zionism. saying, "i disagree with israel and want them off the show," literally isn't enough. but honestly, this is the most european attitude to have towards the situation, so i honestly don't know why i'm surprised. also - some contestants holding a flag for palestine doesn't negate the support the show itself gives to israel. you need to remember that the people suffering in palestine are real and more important than a competition show for, historically, the most racist countries on earth with shit music on it. the fact that you stating "indeed!" and the user in your replies stating you're both aware of the situation is worse than being ignorant and unaware. i will block you just because you are clearly going to die on this hill because what does it matter to you, a white european person, if brown people die so long as you get to watch your silly little music show, which you know, is still openly supporting israel by not excluding them from the competition despite russia's removal. i suppose the white victims of russia are easier to empathise with than the brown lives lost in palestine. i'm embarrassed that i ever bought any of your art.
hello again :) first of all, i appreciate that you're passionate about this topic, it's a good cause to champion and i'm sure there are a lot of ignorant ESC fans that could use the reminders, lord knows you can't escape the zionists on twitter. alas, you don't know me personally, and i don't know you at all, so our back and forth here on tumblr dot com asks seems a bit pointless, especially if you're blocking me anyway? hence my brevity before, but maybe that came across as me generally not giving a damn about anything, and if so, i am sorry
eurovision's 'apolitical' stance (as if anything can be apolitical) is and always has been bullshit, whether it's about how hip europe pretends to be regarding queer issues, misogyny, and other major conflicts like the ones you brought up, such as the war with russia and, of course, israel and palestine. this really isn't a well kept secret, and neither is the response this incites in activists everywhere. there have been protests, petitions, boycotts, there's a heated discussion about eurovision every time we have eurovision, and rightly so, i fully encourage them. the sad truth in my eyes is that people people can only do so much to set things right. EBU is in this to make money and they're fucking great at it. nobody fixed russia by booing and banning them from the show, it was just more profitable to throw them out than keeping them in because 'communism bad', which is a trend among western countries
i've watched eurovision almost every year since i was a little kid, and it's pretty obvious that my stance on this whole thing is privileged. war has never been loud outside my door, i have a reliable supply of food and water every day, a sturdy roof over my head. i can spare myself some respite, and music is a big part of what constitutes my peace, always has been. i'm an enthusiast of foreign arts, of songs and languages that are difficult to get exposed to with how american-centric the music charts are nowadays
and so, the way i see it - and i understand if this is a line you're not comfortable drawing - the artists performing at eurovision aren't the EBU. i watch it for them. many of them who are just young singers looking for their big break, many others who are older and confident using their platform to say the uncomfortable things the organizers want to keep on the low. they're all gathered in one spot to represent a different culture, many singing in different languages, sharing traditional garb and dance. ethnic and LGBT minorities take to a huge stage that connects them to every point of the world, and i'm sorry if this all sounds quite silly in the grand scheme of things, but this is the one thing the show can do right in it's current state. europe is diverse, and sometimes it looks like even europe doesn't know that
i'm sad to see you go, but i respect that you've drawn this line, and i'm thankful to hear you've supported my art in the past. keep fighting the good fight, and may the world be a little less shitty sooner rather than later

Father Lawrence aside (because I just know... I KNOW he's naturally talented in all the things...will die on this hill).... Are any of your OCs naturally talented? If so, what are their natural talents?
🤣🤣🤣 father lawrence is for sure a rare breed.
all of my oc’s have a natural talent and i like to let it show through their careers. as an artist, multi-hyphenate creative, and entrepreneur, i like for my sims to be those things as well. so it might be pretty obvious what their talents are, but i’ll share anyway!
sami is a genius. he solved a rubik’s cube when he was like 5.
sage has an excellent eye for photography and capturing moments. she looks at her works as visual narratives.
rosie can create brands in her sleep. if she ever hosted a masterclass on design and branding, i’d sign up.
lotus will dance and sing until you’re annoyed, but you can’t be too mad bc she’s great at both.
and thanks to @ladybugsimblr for sharing gavin… i’ve learned so much about him from having him in my game. and y’all will soon bc his upcoming rotation is long af. BUT, he’s a natural cook and is an amazing storyteller. his inquisitive nature has led him to travel and soak up many different cultures. he uses food and storytelling (mostly writing, but the world/his job is forcing him to go video) to share all the beautiful things he’s learned. i imagine ppl told his parents as a child, “he’s been here before.”
kotah is a fantastic painter. but really, she doesn’t shy away from any medium. if she can get lost with her hands and make a bit of a mess in the process, something beautiful is sure to come from it.
my not so obvious talents:
ashley is a gemini so she’s a great talker. she’s also a master at curating music and playlists. she may or may not have a secret soundcloud account where she uploads her mixes in her downtime.
rashad is a numbers guy. he’s quiet, calculated, and if there’s anything he knows how to do it’s get to the mf bag.
we will see more of rondo very soon. he hasn’t had a chance to really show who he is yet, but he’s a musical genius. he plays several instruments and writes his own music. it should be a crime to be that fine and talented.

Who killed HipHop?
Recently Cardi B spoke during a livestream about the lack of “club music” being played in the club, and instead of songs made with the intention to party and have fun, it is instead filled with “depressing music and saying, “they all wanna die”. Whether she is referring to emo rap or street rap we can unfortunately agree that in recent years there has been a wave of rappers rapping about death in one way or another. We went from rappers like Juice wrld and xxxtentacion rapping about their declining mental health and need to self-medicate, to rappers like lil Durk and NBA YoungBoy rapping about street violence and their unending cycle of retaliation for their “dead homies”. One thing both have in common is an overarching theme of depression on a lively beat.
Growing up in the south in the 2000s most of the rap I heard was party music, listening to rappers like Trick daddy, Plies, Ludacris, and the Ying Yang twins, you could see that outside of a “thug holiday” and “100 years” the music I actively listened to were club songs. Songs that made you want to “throw it back” but now as a woman in her early twenties most of those songs are one, made by women like Cardi B, Megan thee stallion, and the City girls, and two ridiculed for not being “real rap”. When I think about all of the “hottest rappers” now they are pretty much all street rap. Which makes me question, why are they so popular?
I believe it is because a lot of people only like music that perpetuates aesthetics that feature a lifestyle they want to live but don’t for one reason or another. Like the great Andre 3000 once famously said “y’all don’t wanna hear me, you just wanna dance”. Look at albums by popular rappers that “flopped” to see how it’s a true statement. Two years after releasing what non cole fans dubbed as the “best cole album” 2014 Forest Hills Drive, J. cole released 4 Your Eyes Only. This album featured slow melodies with thought provoking and heartfelt/ sincere lyrics, and it was seen by casual cole fans as the worst album ever and coles “fall off”, while also saying it didn’t have that signature “cole sound”. What I think made them hate it so much, no trap beat. The most streamed song from 2014 FHD was “No Role Modelz” with over a billion streams, the next with 700 million is “Wet Dreamz” and “G.O.M.D” with over 400 million. While the other songs have somewhere between 40 to 200 million, you can tell when people go to the album they only want to hear the “lit” songs. Even J. cole himself knew, in the song “G.O.M.D” during the second verse he says “this is the part that the thugs skip” before talking about the love he’s never felt before.
You could also see this in the height of the “clout rap/ soundcloud rap” era, where it felt like all of these “lil” whatevers were popping up out of nowhere to rap about how sad they were and their drug codependency. Once their audiences grew out of their “xanny” phase these rappers, if they hadn’t overdosed yet, watched as they were discarded by casual rap fans for the next trendy rap style, which was street rap. But these cycles will always continue. A style of rap will become mainstream, people who don’t lose anything from these dangerous lifestyles will instigate (see random people in lil durks comments telling him to avenge king von or a fan giving lil peep drugs that would ultimately kill him), and when something unfortunate happens like prison or worse death. These fans are able to move on because they realistically lost nothing. Personally, I believe this is also why R&B is “dead”. Artist singing about pain in strife to a beat that would force you to listen to the lyrics, people hate that. When you sit back and listen to these songs, they’re sad.
Another rapper relentlessly criticized for his change in sound is Chance the rapper, who has “fans” saying things like they miss when he was on drugs because “his music was better”. To any normal person seeing someone sober, alive and happy, would be celebrated, but not within art. There was a popular post on tumblr about Van Gogh that said ““if van gogh had antidepressants, we wouldn’t have his artwo-” we’d have a lot more of his work, karen, and who the f**k cares about what we get from him he deserved to be well, karen”. This quote really hits my point home, fans have removed the rappers from their humanity. They see them as objects for their viewing pleasure and that’s it. If they die or get locked up, it means nothing to them to move on to the next rapper and the rapper after that. So, no I don’t blame the rappers for using art as a medium to speak about their struggles and their lives, I blame casual viewers who use their pain to get their fill of drama or material to cosplay.
Fans killed hip hop.

i know people on here who follow me aren't theater people necessarily but i am OBSESSED with this interview with Sarah Porkalob in Vulture about her role in the 1776 revival/the show in general.
Since I heard about the revival, I've been wary of it. I find, lately, that a lot of big revivals are doing these kind of under thought casting changes to try and "update" older musicals, often to the detriment to the complexity of, say, their gender politics (yeah, I'm talking about company. Putting A Woman There doesn't make more feminist. Girl Bobbi Company is less about gender than the original flavor, but I shan't go on about that here). Here, it seemed suspect--like, sure, while casting 1776 with non-white non-men could GESTURE at a reckoning w the white supremacy of the original text/the subjects thereof, to quote an entirely different musical, "it ain't necessarily so." asking a non-white actor to embody a slaver is not a de facto revolutionary statement (take, for example, hamilton's discomfort with thomas jefferson. casting a black man to play jefferson does not make "sally won't you be a lamb" a more comfortable line NOR does it, in itself, complicate that relationship. it just.... asks a black person to inscribe that on their body. not great bob!)
all of this just to say that porkalob is remarkably (and sometimes hilariously) frank about the failures of the production, both in terms of process and the resultant product.
tumblr isn't letting me upload screenshots, so here's my fave quotes:
"What do you think is the effect of that casting? The casting is providing resources. The resources include a weekly salary, but also exposure for actors who traditionally would not be cast in this show. In terms of visibility, it is showing our audiences all of these faces that wouldn’t typically be seen. It’s also inviting our audiences to consider how our country was founded without the consideration of people like our cast in mind. Those are the three things I think it’s doing successfully. After that it gets a little complicated … a lot complicated, I should say.
What do you mean?1776 was written in the 1960s by two dudes. It won the Best Musical Tony over Hair. When it was written, during the Vietnam War, there was a generation of people who had bought into the American Dream, and part of the American dream was fighting for democracy. Then there was this generation after them that thought, Maybe we are sending our young men off to die for no reason. So it’s funny to look at 1776 and Hair as two very different musicals written at the same time, but in response to the same thing. 1776 has this desire to humanize the Founding Fathers and feels like a call back to nostalgic Americana. It’s like, Look at these good ole boys. They were just guys doing this stuff. To me, the play is a relic. It is a dusty, old thing."
"Then there is “The Egg,” which presents all these great moments of American history that happened after the events of the show by projecting scenes from them during the song. It did throw me off given that your production seems to be critiquing American exceptionalism. What do you think of that number? I think the directors missed a very obvious opportunity with that song to point back at American history in the way they said they wanted to. What we see in the projection is a collage of America’s history of protest, but do you know what it was sorely missing? The protests that were happening on Capitol Hill in January. Those people were literally chanting “1776.” It’s a choice. I would have been like, Let’s have this be a rock-out fucking song while we show those images of white supremacists charging Capitol Hill."
"Are you artistically fulfilled being in 1776? No, I’m not. The salary is good."
"How do you see queerness interacting with the show? I’ll be honest and say that our directors never thought about that. When we were all in the room together, there wasn’t any conversation about how we marry our queer identities with these characters, which is disappointing. It was clear that they were prioritizing the social identifier of race as a driving creative choice more than anything else. Gender identity, sexual identity — those we weren’t talking about.
Were you directed to play men? Yes, but in a very specific way. We were directed in the beginning of our Boston run to play at being men. It was in the posturing and the gestural work that we were doing in the choreography. According to our choreographer and directors, it had a masculine energy. I think honestly, in that Boston run, that approach did a huge disservice to us as actors. A lot of people were caught up in wondering, Am I a man? Am I myself? Who am I? I decided to pull back in, because I felt, I can’t act in ways that are exciting to me if I’m just playing at being a man. I had to change some things on my end to make it better for me."
it's a great interview and not a super long read. i really appreciate Porkalob's insights and admire her refusal to capitulate to the commercial theater machine. and i'm glad she got that salary :)

Lmao I am also in the well informed but critical taylor swift club and I definitely see ur points. I don’t agree with all of them but like, objectively, ur right
thank you!!!! there need to be more of us i'm sick of swifties who will eat anything up it's so frustrating like if you unironically like midnights (or even ironically. honestly) you are actively supporting an artist going absolutely nowhere with her career. truthfully she peaked at 1989 and will forever be chasing that high imo . folklore was different enough that it stood alone. & i have a whole fucking page of evermore takes that i will post below the cut
evermore take (in track order) the best songs are tis the damn season, cowboy like me, and tolerate it.
willow was a stupid single, it’s actively boring bad pop music, doesn’t live up to even the weaker songs on folklore (i’m looking at you mad woman) and it really only serves to prove that she is TERRIBLE at choosing which songs should be singles/get mvs (lwymmd, blank space, and ootw excluded) like she chose me and yntcd on lover for fuck’s sake. so yeah. willow is bad. champagne problems is good, it really exemplifies her strengths in storytelling and should be recognized for that, but in terms of staying power i don’t think it holds out. it’s a good story, but the melody gets old kinda quickly (though the bridge is one of the best she’s ever written, honestly). gold rush sucks. another average pop song with a shitty beat, overproduced and doesn’t fit the vibe of the album at all (same with long story short but we’ll get to that.) tis the damn season is absolutely crazy good. with an interesting time signature and fantastic lyricism it is absolutely one of her best songs, it’s my favorite of hers atm. this one doesn’t get old for me, in fact it’s grown on me the more i listen to it. i think it brings out all of her strengths. tolerate it is great as well, though for different reasons. slower and more held back, tolerate it is subtle but it creeps up on you! i think again, it’s a great story. evermore has good stories, but a lot of them could be scrapped! tolerate it is NOT one of those tracks. no body no crime is a pretty fun take on something like the chicks’ “goodbye earl” though it’s a little more somber, i think it’s good but not that good. also disappointing that she restricted her features to backing vocals. but she always does so what’s new. happiness sucks. weak lyricism, too slow. dorothea is so pretty, it’s a pretty song if that makes sense. it’s light and airy and she uses a lower register at times which is refreshing! she went there a little bit on folklore as well. dorothea, which i’m almost 100% sure is the other pov of tis the damn season, is pretty good! however...i wouldn’t die on the dorothea hill if someone told me they didn’t like it. i think it’s fine. coney island is good....ish....i really only like it because of the theory that in the lyrics the order of the rerercords is hidden because i think that’s silly. “we were like the mall before the internet” is such a fucked up and terrible line i can’t stress enough that it ruins the song for me. pass! wouldn’t miss it. ivy is ok. i liked it a lot when the album first came out but honestly it doesn’t stand up to the better songs on the album (like ttds) at all. it’s an ok story but in comparison to the better tracks it is nothing to me. cowboy like me is one of the single best songs she’s ever written. this is a fact. the lyricism, the storytelling, the vocal performance, the smooth fucking key change and the beautiful verse, cowboy like me is a feat in her career. long story short sucks the end. it’s corny. marjorie is corny (”never be so __ that you forget to be ___” is stupid) but i love that she utilized her grandmother’s vocals in the background, i think it adds depth to the song, and the verses are generally good! but again...i wouldn’t miss it. closure sucks...it’s not the vibe. stop. evermore, the song, i think is quite good...slow but well paced i think its a great way to close an album.
SORRY.

You know what, fuck it. Taylor is a good lyricist and tbqh it shows. And taking goofy lyrics out of context to dunk on her is basic because Ben Shapiro does that shit to black artists and rappers all the time and it’s lazy, like the ppl in the 2010s doing that with Nicki lyrics on something like stupid hoe as if she didn’t have an entire discography of songs with much better verses and rhymes than that. Anyone can do it to make anyone seem like a shitty songwriter.
I get not liking Taylor and not vibing with her music. It’s very hit or miss with me and I will die in the hill that midnights is one of her worst albums and fans pretending otherwise are delusional.
But this album is just good. Is it great or perfect or life changing? No but it’s good and does what it sets out to do. And her lyrics are very good with this album and it’s obvious she put more care and consideration into them with this album. The actual music and melodies are again a bit mid and interchangeable song to song, but the lyrics keep me listening each time. And that’s a huge get imo because few people have lyrics in a way where I’m going to listen to a mid song just to see what they’re saying.
Taylor is a storyteller, and it’s through the lyrics she tells stories. Don’t like the stories all you want idc but pretending she doesn’t have a knack for it just because you don’t understand the (very unearned lol) hype around her is really just basic as hell imo. I’m like reminded of the goth kids from South Park or the emo song from the 00s where hating on anything mainstream is the point more than if anything is actually good or if you like it.
The cycle of ppl hating on Taylor because well she’s Taylor just riles up her fans more and gets them to act psychotic and extra to defend her and it’s like she’s not worth all that. Don’t like her then just stfu and guess what? The fans are the only ones talking about her and she doesn’t get that much attention! Which is what you want! When you instead make post after post bitching about ppl liking an album, all you do is hype the fans up and get them making more of a big deal and straight lying about how good she is. You’re literally part of the problem of hyping Taylor up to be more than she is all because you want to hate on her.
Know what I do when I don’t like them? I dead them. They don’t exist to me. And typically they go away. And even if they don’t, they have zero impact on my life and when ppl mention them I’m like “sounds like something you just made up anyway moving on” and guess what I don’t have to think about them ever again. Funny that.
Yall make Taylor bigger than she should be by hating on her. She should have went away by 2011, but Kanye jumped on stage to give her some hate and ppl have been obsessively defending her since. Ignore her and leave her alone shit!
