The concept of the family not knowing that Jason can summon the All Blades is so funny to me because imagine they're losing and he just pulls that shit out of his bleeding chest and they're like "wait what the fuck-"

Jason does tell the bats about the all caste and untitled but always in ways they misinterpret.
"joining an isolated cult" could be the League of Assassins
"the time he was fighting demons" that man has so much emotional baggage when isn't he fighting (emotional) demons.
"weapons that can destroy true evil" man relax, we get that guns can kill the joker permanently (in theory)

DP x DC Prompt: "Rematch"
Back when Jason was still a wee baby Robin, Bruce was in business negotiations with some company from out west. Jason wasn't paying attention to whatever it was that Bruce did during his day job, CEO is a boring job anyway, he wants to be a doctor or something so he can help people.
But he notices when Bruce starts acting strange.
It's subtle, yes, and Jason doesn't think most people would even notice something amiss, but he's Robin, he's Batman's partner, he knows Bruce better than anyone except maybe Alfred or Dick, but Alfred is on holiday in England for a week or two, and Dick is on one of his "no talking to Bruce unless the world ends" binges, so Jason really is the only one in a position to do anything.
It's up to Robin to save the day.
Jason investigates Bruce's comings and goings and the CEO of this potential new business partner of WE is kinda shady. He's slimy. Definitely keeping secrets. Jason dislikes this Vladimir Masters right away. Especially when it becomes apparent that he's doing something to Bruce during one of their business dinners that makes Bruce's eyes glaze over in a very worrying manner.
Jason is so not going to let this guy mess with his dad's mind.
It ends with Vlad being beaten up and chased out of Gotham by an enraged Robin. Bruce turns out to be fine and doesn't remember the incident. Jason doesn't tell him, just types up a report and files it in Bruce's archives. Alfred comes back from England, and Dick drops by again to steal Jason away for some brotherly bonding, and everything is fine.
Jason never forgets Vlad Masters and how he tried to manipulate Bruce. Not even a resurrection and a Lazarus pit swim will make him forget that guy.
So naturally, when he starts coming around the manor more and more, and hears that Vlad Masters is sniffing around Tim in hopes of manipulating WE's CEO, he is ready for round two. He's got a bone to pick, and he's bringing the big guns (All-Blades)
And if this round two happens at a gala where Sam Manson is present to see and capture the whole thing with her camera, well, Jason has gained a couple of fans back in Amity Park.

Duke: so let me get this straight. You died in an explosion— going up in flames
Jason: yes
Duke: then you came back to life
Jason: yes
Duke: and before you came back to Gotham you had magical training and because of that training you got magical fire swords
Jason: …yes
Duke: you’re literally a Phoenix in human form, yet you chose the name ‘Red Hood’
Jason: It was to get back at the Joker because I knew it would rile him up
Duke: I didn’t realize you were petty to the point that you would just toss away the analogy that was handed to you on a silver platter

My official All-Blades tattoo design !
[Neat info under the cut]
- The blades are powered by Jason’s soul and blood and can be summoned anytime. The only physically aspect to the blades are the copper hilts.
- The tattoos are a deep red, like dried blood, and glow whenever Jason is using magic.
- The blades can harm magical and non-magical beings alike but cannot harm Jason. The blades along with the tattoos are slightly warm to the touch.
- If you listen closely, you can hear the blades humming softly to the rhythm of Jason’s heartbeat.
- The bands around his wrists act as cuffs chaining the blades to him and him to the blades binding him down to the soul.
- The circles on his hands and wrists rest over acupuncture points that link to the heart and the one of his chest rests over his heart.

So, most of you will probably know that Jason's use of weapons is suuuper inconsistent.
Sometimes he's using guns with real bullets. Sometimes he uses rubber bullets. Sometimes he uses no guns at all. Sometimes he uses a crowbar.
Yes, his use of guns reads to me how he stands to the batfamily - but that's not what this post is about.
Some writers just really don't want him to use guns.
But because he's a vigilante, he needs an alternative. Can be hand to hand combat. Or like the aforementioned crowbar.
(If they are using this approach, I don't think they should use any basic ass crowbar that you can get from any hardware store. Make it electric, give it paint, put glitter on it, just do something with if you think "yeah, let's give this guy who was violently beaten with a crowbar, a crowbar as his main weapon")
If you really don't want him to use guns, then just bring back the All-Blades. His magic swords which he can only summon when used on an evil person.
And yes, I am aware they are only effective against magic, but it's comics, you can write the ever the fuck you want, if they'd want to, they could change it.
Like, imagine he tracks down the next big bad, has him cornered. He is about summon the blades - but he can't.
He decides "not worth my time".
The big bad? Totally offended by this.
What do you mean not worth your time?! He has planned this for months into the finest detail and now what? You just say 'nah' and leave?!
Jason punches him. Hard.
Just because he can't summon the blades, just because he isn't deemed evil enough, doesn't mean Jason can't give him a good punch.

I know it's silly, but I would love it if DC gave Jason the opportunity to randomly summon the All Blades mid fight. Especially if he immediately tries to gaslight everyone into thinking they were seeing shit.
I just think it would be hysterical.

It kills me that rhato has Jason having spent all this time in the mountains with the all caste meditating and working through his inner conflicts and he winds up able to manifest his soul into swords that kill true evil and then he hardly uses them. Also what is true evil? Since it is his soul is it based on his understanding of evil? If so then DC let my boy kill the joker with his soul swords! You owe him one after like 40 years of classism and victim blaming and disrespect!
Friend, I’m afraid you and I are going to be waiting a looooong time for dc to do right by Jason. Pretty sure the world economy will be collapsing in the face of a second viral apocalypse, and dc will still be happily publishing bullshit dragging Jay through the mud.
I totally agree, the all blades are such a missed opportunity. I love the idea of Jason ‘Robin gives me magic’ Todd as Red ‘I’m actually fucking magic’ Hood. And they would totally shish kabob the joker. He’s true evil by anyone’s definition.
In fact, given the joker’s cockroach like tendency to come back from just about anything, seems like magic soul swords are just the thing to kill him dead for good. And is it really murder if it’s done with magic soul swords? Sounds like divine intervention to me. Batman can’t throw you in Arkham for carrying out spiritual destiny, right? Hmm … this is sounding more and more like a good fic prompt 👀
Thanks for the ask, anon!! 💙

Thoughts about Jason and the All-Blades
The All-Blades are, at this point, the biggest example of waste when it comes to the canonical depiction of Jason Todd. (To some extent, fanon also qualifies, but there is at least some attempt at depicting something.) I guess it happens because people look at the surface-level idea of 'anti-evil anti-magic' and discard it when they want to do their 'serious stories'.
My idea is this: take the idea of an evil-destroying weapon as a tool to analyze and comment on the world. Maybe it affects people you would think were safe - or it doesn't affect people who you thought would be hurt. Either way, if you can find the right angle, it becomes commentary on the nature of evil and good in the world you are trying to depict.
My headcanon goes thus - the All-Blades affect every living being, because all living beings have some degree of evil within. That's why you need a person to wield the Blades - someone needs to choose who actually needs to be purged. Also, most people are capable of giving up the evil within themselves - but heroes and villains are unqieuly incapable of letting go of their egos to an extent and are thus always going to have a degree of evil in their hearts.
Jason avoids using the Blades unless it is a last resort. This is because he sees within Lian Harper, a prepubescent child, the same selfish tendencies he sees in Ra's al Ghul. He knows that it is the context of their life experiences (or lack thereof) that makes one person an irredeemably evil man and the other a normal child, but using the Blades regularly conditions you into constantly evaluating the people around you - and Jason would rather be able to love the important people in his life unconditionally, and so he distances himself from the Blades and their coldly calculative way of looking at the world.
There's other ways of approaching this, of course - but the approach needs to be centered on character and theme, instead of plot and lore machinations. That way, it will have weight beyond being a cool tidbit.

I imagine John and Jason are good drinking friends. Until John realized Jason in underage, then they were just smoking buddies who occasionally worked together.
Jason is really connected to the magical world. He has the All blades, studied with Ducra and the All Caste for a long time. He probably gives off magical energy.
But the Batfam has no idea bc they don’t do magic.
John sees the All Blades and his magical potential, teaches him simple magic, and is mildly impressed by how fast he picks it up.
Of course Batman has no clue that they know each other and meet frequently. Until they are doing an all hands on deck with demons. Then John is like, Jason is out trump card with his All Blades.
Everyone is like, the gun toting drug lord has magic? Jason pulls out his All Blades and destroys so many demons that it’s nuts.

as much as i don't like rhato (this is about both versions btw), because of how much the writing sucks, i think jason todd being a part of the all caste (and also just involved in magic and the supernatural) makes complete sense to me and i wish writers would further explore that side of jason when writing him

Listen, I don’t care what comic significance the All-Blades have, giving Jason two flaming swords he can summon at will is rad as fuck.
