In early fall the graphic studio I work at will participate in two sort of festivals that are being organized in town. Last year(s) people would just pass through, or there would be an event that had nothing to do with graphic art, which I thought was kinda sad.

This year we want to carve some blocks for visitors to print themselves if they want. That way they get to experience a bit of what we do here, and get to take home a nice little souvenir.

Above is the design for my first block :) It's the building where the graphic studio is located, with a few landmarks of Alkmaar in the background!

A tiny bit more info below the cut, if you're interested:

The graphic studio building was built in 1903 and used to be a primary school. It's got such beautiful art nouveau details and I'm thinking about carving one of the tile panels for the second block for this project.

That little building to the left was the caretaker's home, which is now connected to the rest of the building. (Recently a lady who was born and grew up there came by because she was curious, and told me a bit about how it used to look!) That's actually where we organize little exhibitions. Every six weeks there's a new artist that gets to show their work there.

What I love about our studio - and apparently that's unusual - is that there are separate floors, so that techniques are more or less divided and it's a much more peaceful way for artists to work. Bottom floor is lithography (and our gallery and office), middle floor is screen printing and bookbinding, and top floor is etching and relief printing.

Anyway, in the background are two towers - both from the 14th century I believe. The closest is from an old convent (now restaurant) and the farthest and largest is the "Waag" tower, where cheese is weighed. There's a cheese market on the square next to it every Friday in spring and summer. Alkmaar made cheese its identity.
