WEAKNESSES: when transforming into a species outside of their given one, they must be bitten by said creature. This has led to the downfall of many.

“This magic is easily the most dangerous if used improperly. They must not be the kitchen appliance, but your mind could very well look like it came out of one once they’re through with you. And unfortunately, it happens the blenders here aren’t very friendly. Perhaps the power has gone to their head.”

WEAKNESS: most blenders cannot manage beyond simple mind reading, or even illusions. Their minds will crack under the pressure if they attempt to go beyond their limits.

“They’re the closest thing we have to reviving the dead. Most of the Enders usually choose this path. Magic simply isn’t meant to interact with the dead. They twist and mould it until they can reach into the cold depths of the afterlife. My advice? Don’t get too close. Their magic wouldn’t stay like that forever...”

WEAKNESSES: their magic is unstable. That in itself is dangerous. And if they project their spirit into the afterlife for too long, they will not be able to return to their body.

They hear the whispers of guidance no matter where they step. That’s why they appear to already know everything they need to know.”

WEAKNESSES: it takes a lot of energy to communicate. They are often distracted by the constant chatter and sometimes get caught in traps because of that.

“The menders are made to heal. They study hard, and are blessed with the knowledge of the human body. Their magic is much softer and more delicate than the others, so there’s not much else they can use it for, unless they take supplements. Their knowledge on weak points makes them invaluable.”

WEAKNESSES: they rarely enter combat.

“You guys are rare. Far too rare to be considered in the Seven Natures, but perhaps there was a time where you walked hand in hand with the rest of us. The forces of nature will answer your call if you can tame them. Renders are strong in that way— you must be what you control, but you seem to manage that just fine.”

Broken Wings

Characters: Steve Rogers x Reader x Bucky, Alexo (OMC), Winnifred and Wyatt (OC)

A/N: Chapter 3 for Blood On My Name is here! This chapter is very angsty. Please heed the warnings. Thank you to @fictionalabyss​ for beta’ing this.

      “Can we go somewhere more private and I’ll explain everything?” My eyes slide to the security guard trying to look anywhere but at us. 

Bucky slowly nods his head. “Yeah, of course.” I close the distance between us, looking between them, confusion is etched on each of their beautiful faces, making my gut twist with guilt. 

Steve gestures towards the elevator, “We can go up to our apartment.” 

I give him a small smile. “Thank you.” 

We step off the elevator into a spacious apartment. “Oh,” I gasp softly. The apartment is decorated to be a modern version of the house I dreamed up with the boys so long ago. Pale yellow walls, an emerald-colored couch, and a faux brick and wood fireplace make up the living room. A large flat-screen sits above the fireplace, and picture frames line the mantle; pictures of Steve and Bucky, the Avengers, old pictures of the boys' families, a few pictures of me, and right in the middle is a picture of us, taken our last night together. I absentmindedly touch where my rings should be, but they're gone as they have been for the last 78 years. I barely had them 3 months before they were stripped from me, tossed in the Russian snow like trash. 

I close my eyes, allowing a tear to escape. A warm hand caresses my face, wiping the tear away. “That was one of the best nights of my life,” a deep voice says.

Leaning into the embrace, I whisper, “Mine too.”

      “I don’t really know where to begin,” I stare down at my hands, lacing my fingers together in my lap. Sitting across from Steve and Bucky, my earlier courage is wavering. 

“Let’s start with how you’re alive.” There’s a betrayed tone to Steve’s voice. 

“Hydra is the short answer,” I shrug. The boys share the same pained expression. 

“And the long answer?” Bucky asks hesitantly. 

I take a deep breath, preparing to relive memories I had pushed away and buried. “About a month after Steve left, a man came by the apartment claiming to be from the Army. He said that I was being moved to Camp Lehigh because of safety concerns. A car was waiting for me the next morning. I’m not sure what exactly happened from there, though I’m assuming some kind of drug. I vaguely remember days of travel, but I was kept too out of it to really get my bearings.” 

“I don’t understand,” Steve says, his brows furrowing. “We received letters from you. You never once hinted at something being wrong.” His voice has an angry edge, his eyes pleading for answers. 

“I know, and I’m sorry. I didn’t have a choice,” I whisper looking down at my hands. 

“What do you mean?” Bucky kneels in front of me, reaching to hold my hand. 

“You have to understand, it was the only way to protect them,” my voice rises and cracks.

“Protect who, sweetheart?” Steve asks softly. He stands, walking over to join Bucky, kneeling at my feet.

“Our babies.�� The boys’ eyes widen in shock, but the look quickly changes to anger and pain. “Our last night, we weren’t careful, and I-I.” I don’t finish, my chest is too tight and my breaths too shallow, tears stream down my face. Steve stands and swiftly picks me up, taking my place in the chair. He settles me in his lap with his arms tight around me. 

“It’s okay, sweetheart.” I sob against him, my body shaking. “Try to match my breathing. Okay?” I nod my head. He takes slow, even breaths. It takes me several tries but I manage to start calming down. “That’s a good girl,” he whispers in my ear. We sit quietly for a while, Steve holding me tightly.

       “I was about 3 months along when I was taken. When I first got there, I made it clear I was pregnant, hoping they would show me mercy and let me go, but no such luck.” I say quietly, breaking the silence. “I was alone in a small room for months, I didn’t see anyone unless food was brought in or they sent someone to clean the floor.” My face burns red and I close my eyes. Steve rubs a hand up and down my back. 

“We don’t have to do this,” Bucky says, squeezing my hand.

“No, you deserve to know.” I take a deep breath before continuing, “I had no idea there were two babies until I gave birth. Even then, I was alone. Winnifred Hope Barnes was born first, a head full of black hair and her Daddy’s icy blue eyes,” I open my eyes and look at Bucky, his eyes are wide and shining with unshed tears. Reaching over, I cup his cheek with my hand, he leans into it with a sad sigh. “To my surprise, her brother made his appearance just minutes later. Wyatt Grant Rogers with his sandy blonde hair and pale green eyes. How they had separate fathers, I don’t know, but I’m thankful they did. I had each of you with me for a while.” Steve’s grip tightens and I hear a quiet sniffle above me. 

“Did he have...was he?” Steve doesn’t finish his question, but I know what he’s asking. 

“Wyatt didn’t have any of your health problems, Steve.” He lets out a relieved sigh. 

“What happened after they were born?”

“It was a few weeks after the twins were born, but a man, the one who took me, and an elderly looking woman came. She examined the three of us and pronounced everyone healthy and healed, then left. The man lingered.” The thought of the man’s face sent a shiver up my spine. “He introduced himself as Alexo, and that he was my handler. He said as long as I cooperated the twins would be left with me and out of harm’s way, so I continued to write the letters. I stayed quiet and did as told to protect them.” I pause for a moment, fighting the grief I still feel.

“When they were about a year old, Alexo would have the same elder woman to come and take the twins for a while. He’d remind me they would be back and safe as long as I was good. He’d have his fun then leave and the twins would be returned to me. One day I convinced Alexo to spend some extra time with me, to go for a walk. He complied and let me out of the room about the same time, they wheeled a bloody soldier through the hall.” I run my fingers through Bucky’s hair. “You don’t know it, but I was there. I watched them transform you into the Winter Soldier, I tried to stop it. I really did, Bucky.”

“It’s okay, doll,” He whispers, tucking a loose strand of hair behind my ear. 

“I started fighting. I fought Alexo when he came to visit, I fought the woman that came for the twins, I fought the injections and the guards, but in the end, I lost. After a rough visit, Alexo dragged me naked outside in the snow where guards were holding the twins. I begged and screamed, but it was met with laughter and gunshots. They left me there, naked in the snow, screaming and crying with the lifeless bodies of my children in my arms. I wanted to die in that snow. I tried to die. I refused to eat, I pushed as many buttons as I could, I fought, and I provoked until the news came: Captain America was dead. I shut down and stopped fighting, I had nothing left to fight for. My Bucky was gone, the twins were dead because of me, and then the last shred of hope and love I knew went down with his plane.” The grief of everything overwhelms me. I sob in Steve’s arms, my body shaking and desperately gasping for breath. 

“We’re done, sweetheart. No more for tonight.” I weakly nod my head as Bucky takes me from Steve’s lap and carries me to the bedroom. They lay on either side of me, trying their best to console and calm me. Eventually, my body gives out and I drift off to sleep.

Hey guys! Those of you who follow me probably know this book pretty well by now, and I would really like to get some feedback on the first few chapters, so if you’re interested in being a beta reader, please continue reading!

Synopsis

Ever since the death of his parents, Alexos Cesarini has been living on thin ice. He knows that those who killed his parents are looking for him, but he’s determined to avoid them as long as he can.

Easier said than done, because after a fateful discovery in a musty alleyway, Alexos discovers his innate ability to break the law- in other words, use magic, which was outlawed so long ago.

And he’s not the only one brave enough to defy the death penalty. After being brought to Avian Lair For the Lost, he is for the first time not alone. And not to mention his tour guide is one of the most attractive people he’s laid eyes on, even though his attitude is something else.

Things finally seem to be looking up, until the disappearances start. And there’s no coincidence.

Something dangerous is hiding underneath this supposed safe haven, and Alexos knows that if it can’t be stopped, he could very well be next. Joined by the underdogs of the school, the “Lost Kids”, he races against fate to free himself and everyone from the crushing grip of fate.

If you’re interested in being a beta reader, please fill out this form by May 31st! Then, I’ll send you the first two chapters for you to read as well as the form of review to fill out. I’ll give you a nice long deadline, so don’t worry.

Depending on how many people apply, I may not be able to take on everyone who applies, but I’m not too worried about that at the moment. At this point, I think I’ll be choosing 3-4 people.

alexos: becomes an Awkward MessTM. he doesn’t know how to deal with that.

rivrin: says very seriously that he doesn’t believe in astrology, but then says that he does believe in chemistry ;)

coro: very earnest; she thinks that they’re trying to start a conversation about star signs

elias: “my sign is no, thanks for asking.” speaks for itself

rhea: she answers, just to be nice. 

shynah: *shifty eyes* “are you one of mine?”

Happy Meet and Greet Monday! How would your OCs answer the question "As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?"

alexos: um I wanted to be a firefighter of sorts... not anymore

rivrin: I wanted to be a sea monster. kinda still do to be honest.

coro: I wanted to be a general like my mom was!

elias: a rock. 

rhea: I wanted to be a nurse, or maybe a horse tamer

shynah: I didn’t want to be anything. i was a very unambitious child.

10 Day WIP Challenge: Favorite Moment(s)

This is for @inky-duchess’s 10 day challenge!

1. Comedy

“Remind me why we’re doing this again?!” Shynah yelled over the noise.

“You failed your Astronomy essay, I tanked on the Cursebreaking exam, Rhea turned Narciso’s desk into a swan, and Rivrin had another shapeshifting mishap!” Elias shouted back as an answer. He turned to me, “I’m not so sure why you’re here, though.”

“He blew up the cauldron.” Rivrin supplied helpfully. Elias and the others nodded in understanding, as if this was a normal conversation. The pieces began to click together, and I didn’t like what picture it formed.

“ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT THIS IS DETENTION?!” I demanded shrilly above the din, unable to believe my ears.

“Well, sort of,” Elias said indifferently. “It’s also mandatory for fourth year and above. And you can do it for extra credit.”

“Fighting demons and monsters is EXTRA CREDIT?!” I repeated.

“Yeah, pretty much!”

“YOU’RE ALL INSANE!”

Rivrin snorted, rolling his eyes, “Please, you don’t think we know that?”

I could only gape at him.

2. Comedy

“Why is she bleeding?”

“Because she’s an idiot,” Rivrin snapped.

"I didn't know that idiocy caused people to just start spontaneously bleeding from the leg." The girl shot back in annoyance as blood continued to spurt from her wound.

"I think it's a new phenomenon." Rivrin returned, folding his arms across his chest, his eyes flashing.

The girl got impatient and asked in a snappy voice, "Can you just heal it already?"

Rivrin pretended to gasp in shock, placing a hand on his chest. “Are you asking me for help?”

“Are you gonna let me bleed out or not?”

“I’m debating it—“

“JUST HELP ME, PLEASE.”

3. Coro and Alexos bonding

I wish I had as much confidence as he did. All of them, in fact, seemed a lot more calm than I was. It kind of made sense: they had been fighting for their lives with the elements against them a lot longer than me.

But still, how could I not be afraid? What if I had sentenced them to death in the ocean by helping me?

“Hey,” Coro nudged me in the shoulder, successfully snapping my brain back to the issue at hand. “Are you alright?”

“What? Oh, yeah, I’m fine,” I said. I must have not sounded that convincing because she raised an eyebrow at me.

“Yeah, and I’m a ocean spirit,” she said sarcastically. “What going on with you? Are you scared?”

“I’m terrified,” I admitted finally. “What about you?”

“Me? I’m shitting myself. Do I look brave?” She asked me. I took a minute to process what she had asked and took a look at her. Her flowing black hair was tied in a messy bun, her cerulean eyes glimmered with an emotion I couldn’t read. Her lips were pursed in a thin line.

“Yeah,” I answered. “To me.”
