Happy Nice Ask Day!

Can you tell us a little more about your pets please?

Oh hello there! Thank you for the lovely ask! I would love to tell you more about our girls! Our two cats are Stevie and Alexis, sisters adopted as 5 month olds in March 2023. Stevie is fully black, Alexis is fully white, making them perfect opposites. They will be one year old in about a week! Named after Schitt's Creek characters, they absolutely live up to their names.

Stevie is a bit of a runt, loves to "hunt" (stuffed animals and toys) and demands praise when she brings you her "kills" (especially when it's a stuffed animal almost as big as her). She is patient and observant, but when she finally lets you pet her she won't let you stop. Her nickname is "The Void" because she appears out of the dark and you don't know she's right there until she opens her eyes or licks her lips.

Alexis, at first glance, appears elegant and haughty, lifting her nose up and dancing away delicately. But once you get to know her you realize she's a completely awkward goober. She is picky as hell about her food, and will eat with her feet by picking it up (wet or dry) and bringing it to her mouth. Her nickname is "FOMO" for her epic fear of missing out - she has to be in the middle of everything!

Four double drabbles from four characters about something that haunts them.

Or, the author projects feelings onto an unprecedented four characters at once.

Patrick tries not to think of it, but it comes to him anyway. There are some nights he lays awake haunted by the what ifs. He doesn’t believe in fate, not really, but he knows that he and David met right when they were supposed to. Still, it doesn’t stop him from wondering how things might have been different if they’d met earlier. If he had figured out that he was gay sooner. If he hadn’t spent so much time trying to make things work with Rachel. Logically, he knows these experiences all made him who he is, but the thought of all that wasted time that he could have spent with David, that he could have been happy leaves a bitter taste in his mouth.
