Title: Words Character: Shin-Ah | Akatsuki no Yona/Yona of the Dawn Rating: G C/Ws: hurt/comfort, Shin-Ah-centric Summary: What are the words Shin-Ah carries in his heart? Word count: 302 A/N: Since today is Shin-Ah’s birthday, I thought I’d write a little something. This is my gift for @sakurafairymage as part of my One year anniversary event. I hope you like it, darling <3
Shin-Ah had lived without many words in his vocabulary. His first word had been darkness, even if love and kindness had always been in his heart. At some point, he came close to grasping the meaning of family. But then darkness and fear and violence and death took over.
That’s why he liked the quiet and the bell that always broke the silence. He had mistaken being used to being alone for being comfortable.
All it took was a moment and an unknown hand reaching for his. All those years with the only company of Ao, and the murmur. Always the rumours and fear and hate held by the villagers. Then the company of the bell, the darkness, and Ao. He didn’t know anything else. He didn’t want to do something bad again. He didn’t want to hurt people.
Then the light came, and a hand that didn’t let go.
He felt it before she touched him, before she welcomed him as part of her family, before she named him Shin-Ah.
He had always had somewhere he belonged. In the darkness, he had never been alone, had never been the only one. His dragon brothers, who were now reunited with him, proved his very existence outside of that darkness. And Yona gave his life a new meaning. One that wasn’t shrouded in darkness but in light. She accepted him and gave him the words seen, understood, and trust. And the words in his vocabulary kept increasing the more he experienced the world with them.
Hak, and Yoon, all had their role. And he had his. And for once, he really felt he could love his duty, his place in the world.
And he finally held the word he had always longed for safely in his heart: friends. And it tasted like joy.
.
.
.
I hope you enjoyed this, interactions and constructive feedback are appreciated <3

I thought I was done with this but evidently I just keep adding on to this daydream. Obviously there would need to be some winter scenes (yes I know it's barely fall) but hear me out-- they go out shopping together (Yona's trying to find a good gift for Hak for Christmas) and it starts snowing and he puts his scarf around her because he doesn't want her to be cold!!!!

Title: I Won't Do It Again Fandom: Yona of the Dawn/Akatsuki no Yona Characters: Zeno x Fem!Reader Prompt: #29 - Shielding the other one with their body Word Count: 100
“What do you think you’re doing?!” Zeno shouted in anger. “I…,” You pause, in shock of what you did, “I just… I wanted to protect you.” “Do I look like I need protection?” Zeno asks in frustration as he shoves his sliced arm in front of your face. The wound quickly disappeared as the ligaments, muscle, and skin reattached. “I’m sorry,” You say while holding the bleeding wound on your stomach. Zeno takes a deep breath, composes himself and pulls you into his arms, “Don’t ever do that again, please.” “I won’t,” You promise as you cry into his arms.
Again, thanks for participating!!! 💚
All completed drabbles will be posted on my A03 account.

Blue bird
Shin-ah fic
Akatsuki no yona fic
No warnings
Shin-ah was lost. As Yona and the others set up camp, he was out gathering firewood and he got distracted by a blue bird. He'd never seen a bird like this before. It was such a light blue it almost blended in with the sky. Fascinated, he followed it and before he knew it he was standing in front of a small cottage. It was a homely little cottage with flowers in the window sill. The blue bird settled on a post with poles sticking out in random places, for the birds to perch on he guessed, and started to sing. A few seconds later a middle aged woman came around the corner having heard the song.
“Well, who have you brought this time, Azure?” She asked in a good humoured tone. She looked at Shin-ah, the smile never leaving her face as she took in his strange appearance.
“Hello, might I ask who you are?” She asked.
“…. Shin-ah..”
The woman nodded, “It's nice to meet you, Shin-ah. That's a beautiful name. It means moonlight, I hope you cherish it.”
Shin-ah nodded. He had the strangest feeling that he could trust this person even though he only just met her.
“…….What is.. your.. name?” He asked in a quiet voice.
“ Mai. You can call me big sis Mai. That's what everyone else calls me,” She motioned to the door. “ Would you like to come in?”
Shin-ah hesitated and during that second Ao, who was sleeping in his fur, woke up.
“Ohhh, you have a little friend with you!” Her face lit up and she came closer till she was a few steps from him.
“Do you mind if…” She trailed off holding out her hand. Before Shin-ah could react Ao jumped to her hand and ran up her arm onto her shoulder nuzzling her face. Right then he knew for certain that he could trust her.
“What's her name?” she asked.
“….Ao.”
“haha, Ao doesn't suit her.”
“….Yona said that too…”
“Ohh?”
Jealous that Ao was getting attention, Azure flapped and landed on her other shoulder and started playing with her hair.
“Don't be jealous, Azure,” she said petting the bird. “Who's Yona? Is she part of your family?”
Shin-ah nodded. “
“Are they a nice family?” She asked. From the way he acted, she was a little worried that they weren't treating him well.
Shin-ah nodded again. “….They always take care of me…and each other…” He tried to to think of a way to express his feelings. All he came up with was, “I love them.”
Mai nodded and smiled brightly. Really relieved.
“Then you should head back to them now, Azure will guide you back. Just follow him and you won't get lost,” She handed Ao back. “Goodbye, Shin-ah and Ao.”
She clasped her hands behind her back and waited for him to turn and leave. But he didn't. He had only known her for a little bit but he already thought of her as a friend.
“….Will I see you again.. Big sis Mai?..” he asked.
Mai was a little surprised but she nodded.
“Whenever your around here, just look for Azure and he'll lead you here.”
Shin-ah nodded. Azure took off fluttering from branch to branch. Waiting Impatiently. Following Azure, Shin-ah looked back. Mai was waving goodbye.
It didn't take long for him to come in view of the camp, then he saw Yona and everyone. They had noticed Shin-ah was gone and started searching the area around camp, yelling his name. Yona looked as if she was on the verge of tears. Shin-ah ran to her instinctively. Yona saw him and a look of relief came over her face.
“Shin-ah!”
She ran to him and hugged him. Everyone else heard Yona's shout and came running up too. Kija made it there first and smothered Shin-ah in a big hug.
“Shin-ah! We were so worried about you!”
Zeno caught up and threw himself into the hug, Hak and Jea-ha stood to the side watching the scene with amused smiles on their faces. Yoon caught up and sighed dramatically to hide how worried he had been. Finally Jea-ha spoke up.
“Ok, break it up. Your smothering Shin-ah,” He pulled Zeno and Kija off. “Now, where were you, Shin-ah? You disappeared and we were all worried.” Jea-ha scolded him.
“….I followed a blue bird… and met big sis Mai…… I’m sorry for worrying you.”
“A blue bird?” Kija questioned.
At this Azure twittered a few notes as if to announce his presence.
“Wow!”
“I’ve never seen a bird like that!”
Yona and Yoon said excitedly. All the others watched it in astonishment. If they had any doubts about Shin-ah's story before, which they didn't, they had no reason to doubt him now.
Satisfied that he got everyone's attention, Azure flew off back home and was soon out of sight. Then they heard a loud Growl. Everyone looked at Zeno, who was scratching the back of his head and they all burst into laughter.
“Hahaha, I think we should get something to eat. You can tell us about it as we eat, Shin-ah.” Yona said.
And they all headed back to the camp site, in anticipation of some of Yoons delicious cooking.

Ting Ting Ting like Glitter and Gold
She was Kaya once.  Then she was Kae-Li the nurse.  After that she was Ji-Su the priestess, then Cheung the musician, Huaen the librarian and Iseul of the circus.  Now she is Hae-Gi: she is a pirate, she is Jae-Ha’s “twin sister”, Gi-Gan’s daughter, but above all she is Zeno’s wife.  She made a deal with Ouryuu in Heaven – she is going to help the Four Dragons and their King, and they are going to like it!

2022: A Year in Review
Happy New Year everyone! Fingers crossed it's a good one.
In saying goodbye to the previous year, I usually use this 'year in review' to highlight my favorite fics from each month. In 2022, though, I wrote so few fics that I'm just going to list them all.
Not that that means there's less to read, though! FIVE of the eight fics were 6k+ words, for a total of almost 39k in the whole year.
All links will go to AO3, and all stories are COMPLETE.
Avatar: The Last Airbender:
"Honk," 6k, March: Horse Girl Sokka and Ostrich Horse Zuko.
"Titanic," 8k+, May: Canon-divergence Zukka AU inspired by Titanic.
"Dance and Be Gay," 7k+, May: Modern AU, Zukka as Cinderella and Prince Charming in the high school musical.
"Four Counts," <1k, May: Sokka wakes up late one night and deals with his OCD, and Zuko is there to help.
"Skating Into Love," 8k+, May: Zuko and Sokka take the world of pairs figure skating by storm.
Yona of the Dawn:
"any time," <1k, April: Queen Yona and Lord Tae-jun friendship.
"my general, my queen," <1k, April: Queen Yona and General Lili friendship.
MDZS / The Untamed:
"We Are Made of Silk and Steel," 6k+, December: In a world where cultivators can shapeshift into weapons, Nie Huaisang is a simple handheld fan.
Thank you for reading, and I look forward to writing more in 2023! I'll be posting a schedule soon.

The Emperor
Word Count: 1500+ (oneshot)
[AO3]
Genre: Family/Angst
Characters: Su-won, Yu-hon
Summary: Eventually, Su-won had had to accept that he was never going to be his father’s son.
Written for @akayonatarotzine
~0~
The first memory that Su-won can recall is being taught sternly not to introduce himself to people with a friendly, “Hello! My name is Su-won!”
Such an open and casual address was unbecoming for someone of his blood, he had been informed. The proper thing for him to say was, “I am Su-won, son of Prince Yu-hon.”
Not “Prince Su-won” either, mind. He was of the noblest blood in all Kouka, true, and would always be called by a title of honor and respect. But only a son of the king and a potential heir to the throne would be permitted to call himself a prince. For anyone else to do so would be as presumptuous and insulting as a commoner who brazenly crowned himself king.
“Never mind it, son,” his father would mutter. “How meaningful it is to be called Prince ebbs and flows like the ocean. I hold the title of General with far greater pride, for it is one I earned and kept for myself. What I gained from it came from my own blood, sweat, and strength, and not by anyone else’s favor.”
His father had delivered this speech many times before his death; to no one but his son would Yu-hon speak this much or this baldly. Su-won was four the first time he had been audience to it, sitting on the short stone wall of the royal training court as night darkened around them.
“So you don’t mind that Grandpa Ju-nam didn’t name you king?”
Yu-hon stopped in mid-swing of his sword, turning to look at his son with a spark of irritation in his eyes. “What? Who told you that?”
Su-won glanced to the side, idly kicking his small legs, precise voices and faces floating through his mind. “People. They spread rumors, when things don’t go the way they think they’re supposed to.”
After another moment of unimpressed glaring, Yu-hon returned to his drills. “People like that know nothing. Let their words roll off your back, son, they’re unworthy of your consideration. And Su-won?”
“Yes, Father?”
“To you, it’s His Majesty or King Ju-nam. Show respect. Now...pay attention.” Yu-hon paused. “I have come to terms with the fact that my only son and heir will never be king. But that does not mean you will be passed over, or forgotten. No country lives and dies by its king alone. You will become a warrior, and the pride of Kouka, just like your father before you.”
Yu-hon was not a particularly clever or thoughtful person. He was like a mountain turned into a man, stern and cold and unmoved. As far as his feelings went, Su-won was no different than the rest of Kouka: he admired Yu-hon to distraction, loved him with every inch of his heart, and wished to share in the blessing that the gods must certainly have given him, to become such a powerful hero.
However, Su-won had what nobody else would ever gain: Yu-hon’s blood, and his attention. Yong-hi had made clear that she wished to have no more children, very soon after Su-won’s birth; he had not learned this from either of his parents and he often wondered whether he had somehow been the cause. Yu-hon could never seem to deny his wife her wishes, and hadn’t said a word of his own thoughts on the matter of siring more sons. He made up for it by resting all of his hopes and dreams on Su-won’s shoulders, and Su-won was more than willing to accept the burden.
To that end, he was willing to follow his father anywhere, in anything. The first real sword he held had been Yu-hon’s, at his age, and he learned its art quickly. (It never quite felt as home in his hand as his father said it should, but he figured that that didn’t matter.) He was permitted to sit on the sidelines at some of the war meetings, provided he promised only to listen. He learned to ride at his side, on the colt of his prized war stallion, no less.
“Look well on our kingdom, Su-won,” Yu-hon said. The bluffs around Kuuto were his favorite place to take his son riding, for the views they could appreciate from their edges. “It will never be yours to rule over. But it will be yours to protect, with everything you have.”
Su-won nodded. His love for other people so easily blended together with love for his kingdom. “Yes, Father.”
“I understand you’ve already made some connections within Kuuto?” Yu-hon turned to his son with a smirk. “Ju-do told me about that little adventure you had in its underbelly, with Mun-deok’s boy and little Yona.”
Su-won giggled nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. “We didn’t mean for it to get out of hand. Yona had never seen the castle town before and — ”
“Yes, we must obey the will of our rulers,” Yu-hon cut him off, and Su-won did not pipe back up to correct him. “But I heard Mun-deok’s boy showed you up with his power. I won’t have that, Su-won. You must stand above all other men, in strength and stature. Understand?”
“Yes, Father.”
Su-won did not argue to defend the value of his own contribution; keeping that knowledge quietly to himself felt like enough. But at his age, he was still accepting his father’s word as law, and took it for granted that Yu-hon’s encapsulation of power was the superior one. The mountain was emotionless, and could not be dictated to. Nor could it be moved or defied, or pierced by a sword...
...Or so he had thought.
Until the day he died, Su-won was sure he’d never forget how it sounded when his father’s body was run through, all the breath leaving it in one awful gasp, and collapsed like a stringless puppet to the floor. He didn’t remember what King Il’s face had looked like: blank, like an executioner’s? Angry, like one provoked into abandoning his most closely held principles? Sorrowful, like...well, a man who’d just slaughtered his only brother like an animal? He didn’t know and he didn’t care.
Su-won had been sure he would be next. Not only had he been careless in running and hiding, too panicked to think clearly, but what would be the point of killing a prince and general and not getting rid of his heirs, too? It had been a week of holing up in their manor before he’d realized that the sword really wasn’t coming down on him, too.
Then once he’d got that through his head...what was he to do? The mountain had crumbled before him, everything that his father was destroyed by one quick movement of a blade. Su-won could barely comprehend it. The only thing he had known for sure was that he could not — could never — allow the same to happen to him.
And he knew now how to ensure that.
He was never going to be his father’s son, not in the way that the kingdom and Yu-hon himself had expected him to be. He could not be the mountain, for that was far more fallible than it looked even if it had suited him. He had instead dedicated his life to the opposite approach.
The first time he had seen his uncle Il after the murder, he had thrown on a bright smile and run to give him a hug. He doted on Yona, genuinely; once he killed her father, there was no guarantee she’d never find out about what he’d done, and he wished to enjoy what time with her he had left. With his father and teacher gone, he focused on gleaning as much as he could about strategy and combat from his friendships with Hak and Ju-do. And he flexed his fingers a little more every day on the unseen strings that set Kuuto in motion when he played at them.
Rather than the mountain, Su-won was the water that wore down the stone, the wind that cut through the skin and froze to the bone, the shadow that traveled everywhere so it could see and know all.
Grown now, after ten years of setting everything necessary for his coup in motion, Su-won considered that. He sat alone in his room as the night dragged on, unable to sleep, idly cradling a sword in his hands.
“Father,” he murmured so softly that he barely heard himself. “I’m sorry to tell you that you were wrong. I was never going to be like you. Had you lived...I fear I would have disappointed you with our differences. You truly did wish for the crown, and never got it. I still care nothing for it, for its own sake, and yet...”
In twenty-four hours, Il would be dead, and Su-won would be king. He would rule in his own way, not in any imitation of his father’s one brute-force approach. And he would use every breath of life he had left to forge Kouka into the greatest empire in the world.

【AkaYona】 SuHak
pale blue solace
“The beautiful smile of a boy he once loved. And before midnight falls upon the palace, before the silver strain of clouds morph into the glint of a sword’s edge, dipped in the blood of betrayal — a passage between death and life — there is the distinct, somber shade of pale blue.”
- pale blue solace by foggydevil
I originally drew this SuHak last year as a birthday gift for my precious friend Lumen (@/Ann_archyy) on Twitter~ Manifesting SuHak!
Happy birthday Lumen!
@soo-won
Thank you so much to both you and Project Vinland's hard work for your translations, including on series like AkaYona! You're really our strongest soldier. I also have gift arts in mind for you this year!
Sending you lots of love~ I'm happy to have met you and be your friend. I always have fun talking to you! You're so funny and your thought rambles and character analysis/meta posts really inspire me.
I always feel like seeing my friends' works reignites my love for this ship. And of course, seeing everyones' passion for it! It makes me remember what I love so much about the ship.
When I drew this last year, I wanted to make their expressions soft and tender. Suwon was very fun to draw :) I loved drawing Suwon and his hair, heehee. Thank you king!!! 👑 And Hak's colours were fun. I love warm lighting, and colouring gold, so this was a treat 😌✨
This was inspired by foggydevil's SuHak fic, pale blue solace
I had the mood and atmosphere of the fic in mind while I drew! Her SuHak fic is beautifully written. I love reading her writing, it's so atmospheric and poetic... I love the prose. Her writing style reminds me of poems... It was pale blue solace that inspired me to choose the colours and atmosphere in this.
The rest of my rambles will be under the cut!
I was thinking about Suwon's association to gold and the warmth of the sun, so I chose more cool colours for Hak and the shadows of his clothes 🙏
I'm happy that my friends said they could feel the atmosphere of pale blue solace in this drawing due to the contrast between golden colours and pale colours. Sun/Moon symbolism...
The gold tones are a reference to Suwon who is the sun. I love the colours of the 2nd one. I chose those colours for warm and cool colours contrast, and I also chose the cooler toned one to match the atmosphere of pale blue solace!
No matter how bad AkaYona got and decayed in terms of writing quality, I'm still so glad I met many of my friends because of it <3 I’m glad for everyone’s team effort in creating SuHak content~ It makes up for how badly written Ch. 243 was.
Our friend circle is why I got into Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, one of the most important and personal series to me ever. Thank you!
CSP lags every time I open the file cuz it's so big. Alas I'd love to redraw this someday.
Also love black hair x blonde hair pairings. Wahoo!

Hi!! I love your podcast!! I want to ask you, what are your favorite akayona fics??
Hi! Thank you!! And thank you for giving me an excuse to talk about my favorite topic.
HakYona
for happiness by thecivilunrest
Hak closes his eyes, and allows himself to pretend that this is more than duty.
At Their Hands by the-tzimisce (firstmaterial)
She turns to him, glances down to where he’s kneeling by the side of the manicured path into the grove, and when her eyes hit him that’s when Hak knows this is a dream, because only in a dream would the princess look at him with such focus - with such care.
Your Touch by LightBloom (honestly tied with An Exercise in Self-Improvement by LightBloom)
Yona had the perfect two-step plan. Get back into school and move in with Soo-Won. It's the start of the year and one of the steps falls through. So naturally, what's a girl to do except move into a house with her friend and 4 other boys, all while avoiding Hak's questions?
Denial and avoidance are healthy behaviors, right?
bad idea by makapedia
Explaining porn to a sheltered princess was decidedly not in Hak's job description. And yet here he is.
There Ain't No Tellin' Who You Might Meet by ViciousVentriloquist
In the summer of '79 Yona, a college girl with red hair, a privileged upbringing, and fresh trauma, gets a job at a local gas station.
Others
to all the ghosts still standing in this room by Sabraeal (Soo-Won/Lili)
It's just like Yona to frame this as a request, a favor: attend Princess Kouren's formal coronation as an esteemed member of the royal family, as one of her most trusted advisors. But Soowon was not Kouka's king for so long by not knowing how to read between the lines; he's a political liability, and it would behoove him to make sure that when Xing's new queen chooses her consort, he is the one standing beside her. It's better than he deserves; were it anyone but Yona, he would already be buried in the most convenient ditch they found on their way back from Kai. But still...Did she really need to send Lili to make it happen?
When the Red Summer Poppies Bloom by Letterblade (Kouren/Yona)
Princess Kouren, now that Yona's been able to get to know her, turns out to be an excellent teacher of swordplay. And some...more interesting things.
Renegades by SariahHime (Jae-Ha/Kija with side Hak/Yona/Soo-Won)
Two rough and tumble field agents, one very disgruntled yet well-polished detective, an elusive assassin, a chipper intelligence agent, and a shy sharpshooter are thrown into a world none knew before. In order to save their friend and their country they must face a hellish reality full of deception and lies.
You are also welcome to peruse my AO3 bookmarks to see if any summaries call to you.

Through All Circumstances And All Times Oneshot Two Modern AU
@foxxiatto Here’s my second oneshot for AkaYona Month! This time, it is a Yun centric oneshot, where he stars in his own cooking show, but also still manages to take care of others during it. (I struggled at first with what to do with the prompt, and then someone told me do a cooking show, and after some thought, it just all rolled together into a much better cooking show fic than when the idea was presented to me at first. Granted, I probably will tell the person who inspired me, what the fic came out to be later.) :)  https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14230891/2/Through-All-Circumstances-And-All-Times

Title: Is That A Woman Over There? Fandom: Yona of the Dawn/Akatsuki no Yona Characters: Hak & Jae-Ha Prompt: #4 - Having a friendly arm-wrestling match Word Count: 100
“Three, two, one, go!” Yona shouted. The stakes were high. The loser would have laundry duty for a month. Neither’s fist budged from the center. “You’re looking a little tired, Droopy Eyes,” Hak quipped as sweat began to form. “Nonsense,” Jae-Ha retorted with a small grunt, “I’ll win this soon.” “Hey, look, there’s a beautiful woman over there!” Hak yelled. “What, where?” Jae-Ha said in surprise as he lost his concentration.  In that split-second, Hak was able to bring Jae-Ha's fist down. “Winner!” Yona exclaimed. “If it was a leg-wrestling match, I would have beaten you!” Jae-Ha lamented in defeat.
Again, thanks for participating!!! 💚
All completed drabbles will be posted on my A03 account.
