i keep seeing these gut-wrenchingly cute ideas about how stede and ed’s reunion will go, but i can’t help thinking that it will be terribly sad. imagine, ed sees stede and turns him away, spits on him, and stede (who can’t understand how hurt ed is, but can see that he is wrecked) is left heartbroken, having lost his only love. stede is left still believing that he defiles beautiful things. he won’t forgive himself for hurting ed, for damaging him. how will they get past that? who will make the first move towards reconciliation - the one who sacrificed everything for a man, just to be rejected, or the one who believes his presence ruined the other?
