I have said this before but me being self proclaimed number 1 Ryoma fan and that being possibly literal-bc even if this bro had fans before me I might’ve simply done the most for him by talking about him so much + being the first to write fics that are in depth studies on his trauma across canons-I gotta say if there’s one other character I rotate a lot that isn’t him it’s probably Kei. (Shocking it’s not Hayato even if I do think about him too- but it’s usually associated with Ryoma bc gays 🗿)

I’m not even exaggerating when I say Kei would be my favorite and only isn’t because she doesn’t exist in many other canons yet my brain rotates the endless possibilities of how to incorporate her. I’ve already written a fic where she’s in shin vs neo verse which worked surprisingly well but I’ve been thinking how universally she could appear in other things. (Whether it be fitting her into a idea of a possible Go team in New or just a new canon completely) I think what I’ve narrow it down to is that she could be like- in Michirus role? Like she’s the supporting female who isn’t a pilot but helps out the real occasionally which I think would align very well especially with the original manga role she has of being Hayato’s assistant. And even if Hayato isn’t grandpa mode yet he still very much is in Saotomes position at that point. Not sure if she’d Hayato’s biological kid to further parallel Saotome and Michiru given well Hayato already adopts the Go team and his wife is irrelevant LOL.

I have no idea if I’ll ever write this specific idea but I’m still- rotating it cause this is such a easy way to get around “picking between Sho or Kei as the 2nd pilot” since both of them can still exist even if one doesn’t get to pilot, idm my supporting females. (Granted there could always be like- plot line where Sho gets hurt so Kei is temporary pilot but I can’t remember if Getter ever really did this since “once your hurt your ass is basically replaced” lol)

Teaspoon translation released their latest update and it looks like Mercie's teardown of Lorenz in the B support was something the localization more or less made; in the JP version it was more teasing and poking fun at him and she even apologizes to him for it.

But that's what you get by removing the "~ara ara" part of Mercedes's... character through the VA, I know a non jp VA won't say "~ara ara", but it conveys a lot about a character's personality, just like the "b-baka it's not like I care about you" tsundere isn't just a way of speaking, but it's supposed to make you understand the person talking has, uh, difficulties opening up (insert all traits of a tsudere archetype).

Mercie is sometimes aloof and sees herself as the big sister of the group in general, but, as a "big sister archetype", while she can be motherly she can also tease and make fun of people - all in good faith, since she apologises afterwards.

I won't say it's like Rhage, where getting an incorrect reading on the character will give, well, discrepencies in the text and a different character all together, but eluding the "Mercie teases people as an affectionate big sister type" to have her uncharacteristically put down Lorenz is, imo, not an accurate reading of Mercedes's character (but again, maybe I'm wrong!).

in my mind sho is a rlly good drummer

like he took an interest in playing during elementary school, when they brought the instruments around to entice people to do band, and his mom was more than happy to get him a snare and a practice pad so he could start learning. (his father…slightly less enthusiastic, mainly bc sho refused to play on the practice pad and would beat the snare all hours of the day). and it ended up being a perfect fit for him, as he quickly advanced well beyond his peers and was playing a full kit in the jazz band by the time he was 11.

then, when the claw stuff started getting more serious, the drumming dwindled out. sho was rarely home—moving from base to base, traveling the world with his father, training in open fields to hone his skills—and his poor little snare collected dust in the corner of his room. when he Was home, he certainly didn’t have the energy to play it. but that never quelled the rhythm within him, and he often found himself playing out little beats on his knees when he was bored. it was only when he started to push away from his father did he realize how much he missed it

after the world domination arc, sho returns home. positively exhausted and reeling from the emotional trauma he had went through, he collapses on his bed and tries his best to force himself to sleep. but the memories come to him in flashes—his father throwing him across the room, hitting him with blast after blast, ritsu’s older brother showing up to defend him, the fight in the air, the explosion. he finds himself staring at the ceiling wondering how the fuck he ended up here. he feels his fingers itch with a beat as tears well up in his throat.

he turns his head to the side and catches sight of his snare tucked away in the corner, white face reflecting the moonlight from his window.

he takes it to the basement and plays the entire night.

from there, he takes to it again like a fish to water. in a moment of impulsivity, he orders a full kit for himself. (he only finds out after the fact that his mom had the same thought of getting him one, and they laugh over it as they embrace). he spends every day after school playing on his kit. he learns new techniques from youtube and recreates anime osts on the drums and feels the kid in him thrive.

ritsu says he should join a band.

“you’re good,” he says between licks of his ice cream. “like. really good.” the summer sun beats down on both of their faces, but when ritsu turns to smile at sho he feels a different kind of warmth blossom onto his face. “i think it’d be good for you.”

“maybe,” sho smiles, knocking his hip into ritsu’s, eliciting a laugh from both of them. the muffled taps of his fingers against his leg reverberate in his ears, reminding him of the life he’s gotten so lucky to live. “we’ll see what happens…”

the rest of the walk to spirits and such is filled with laughter, conversation, and the rhythmic beating of their hearts.

bro i am metaphorically kissing you on the mouth. you get it. you UNDERSTAND. he uses his body as just another addition to his latest opus. "freedom to shape oneself to their most extravagant desires" is so real, and also "following one's wishes" which is why i think that he gets along with konishi at the end of OG where he says that he zetta digs her style, because she's following her selfish desires to the end and he finds that beautiful. or how he smirks about rindo factoring out how his time travel works, allowing him to manipulate time to his desires. i think that the interest in trash says a lot too. he thinks that anything can be beautiful, no matter how much others view as garbage, because it can be a canvas when heaped together.

personally i think that people over-exaggerate the whole "he would've turned shibuya into a trashpile!" because we see him capable of supporting OTHER PEOPLE in this too. i think that he would hate anything that homogenized shibuya, even himself. he wouldn't want everyone acting exactly like him or whatever. that doesn't make interesting material for art. instead he'd want to see everyone pursuing their selfish desires with hierarchies ripped apart

Hehe thanks :] I think specifically his interest in trash is fun because you're really able to take it in different directions based on what you want to get out of his character. "he thinks that anything can be beautiful, no matter how much others view as garbage, because it can be a canvas when heaped together" is one super cool interpretation! I also think that you could take it in a direction where he has a more negative worldview, and his "The world is garbage!" schtick is more about him believing that there is something deeply wrong with the world he is living in and only he can fix it, which could provide a motivation for why he wants to become the Composer. There's no one "right" way to interpret Sho which makes him really fun to write about, you can really do whatever you want with him. Which makes me even more frustrated with how hard it is to replicate his mathspeak...sigh

So I watched shin vs neo again with my irls for my bday given how short it is and I didn’t have a actual movie for the occasion-bc let’s face it SvN is probably the closest thing will ever get to a getter movie lol-and while I enjoyed it as per usual one of my irls who had it be their first getter exposure was like “I have no idea what’s happening” and while I kept joking “lol if you saw arma you’d be even more lost” it dawned on me why new is probably the better first getter experience overall and it ain’t even because there’s less characters + is the starring cast-well besides Musashibo-to really grasp stuff, it kinda ties back to another issue getter has: The Go team have not gotten a proper accurate adaptation and probably the getter team who’s done the dirtiest despite getting more appearances than arc, because arc team at least got a manga accurate anime.

I’ve realized this for awhile but now I understand the want for a getter go anime even if I’m doubting it’s happening god.

Sometimes I think about that time I went to a con and saw one of the artists in the artist alley was selling a Pence Medal (like from KHUX) sticker. I pointed it out with a bit of a laugh and said that I liked that the only non Destiny Trio character they had merch of is Pence, of all people. And they good naturedly laughed with me and said that it wasn’t really a big seller, and that no one really talks about Unchained X anymore. I professed my love for Union X and commissioned some art of my Keykid from them, and, as I was about to leave, they were like “here, you can have the sticker too”.
