Flashfics 1 Masterpost!
Ship, Color, Plant
Original Post CLOSED
As you can see, I asked for:
-A Danny + DC ship (/ or &) which is self explanatory.
-A color from the rainbow (roygbiv). Before anyone picked I assigned a topic to each color based on something that color evoked for me! I'm not going to lie, I didn't think too hard on these lol.
Red- fighting
Orange - trick or treat
Yellow - food/meal
Green - eldritch
Blue - sleep(y)
Indigo - smooches/cuddles
Violet - angst (violent violet)
(For those curious: 1R, 3O, 1Y, 2G, 4B, 1I, 4V)
-A plant of some type. The plant is a little vague, but it was there to provide a hook of some sort- a mood or color palette or texture. Basically the plant is the vibe!
(If anyone else wants to use this idea process (or parts of it) to do prompts themselves, feel free!)
Goal was to stay short and quick with these! Here are all the links and a bit of my thought process under the cut! The reasoning is likely spoilery for the pieces, so you might want to read the ficlet first!
Danny/Jason, Indigo, False Indigo
Danny/Jason, Yellow, Dandelions
Smooch + False Indigo just had to be fake dating! It was a must. I admittedly have more thoughts on this one than a ficlet warrants...
Danny/Tim, Violet, Iris
Food/Meal. Dandelions are seen as just weeds in the US, but actually from their roots to leaves to flowers have a ton of uses! So I wanted there to be a restaurant that was dubious from the outside, but had amazing food.
Danny & Billy Batson, Orange, Prickly Pear
Angst. I love irises. The colors of traditional purple iris with that spot of yellow reminds me of dusk. Dusk feels like an ending so we went with a dramatic deadline!
Danny/Bruce, Blue, Blue Lily
Trick or Treat. Danny brings Billy food as they plot. For the plant a prickly pear is good eating, but... well, prickly, so I went with a clear friendship with some underlying contentiousness.
Danny & Steph Brown, Violet, Violets
Sleepy. A blue lily looks a little scattered, even frayed, but it still has a lovely soft color. It was perfect for a Bruce who's trying to hard and a soft moment. (Great fun to finally write this ship.)
Danny & Arthur Curry (Aquaman, Orin), Blue, Ruby Slipper Succulent
Angst. Purple bruises clustered together like violet flowers came to mind right away- especially for violent violets. Two spirited heroes in over their heads...
Danny/Jason, Orange, Apricot Tree
Sleepy- went with exhausted here. The succulents reminded me both of the crown of fire but also coral, so I really wanted to focus on Danny visiting Arthur/Orin. As both half human kings, I thought that it could be nice to set up a mentor idea.
Danny/Stephanie, Violet, Orchids
Trick or Treat. I struggled a bit at first but had the idea of Danny throwing apricots at Danny- using the plant literally for once! Luckily the ficlet found it's way. (Ty Moku for letting me bounce ideas off of you.)
Danny/Duke, Blue, Sage
Angst that I had to make different from the other angst with these two! I leaned into the other worldliness of orchids and their bright bold colors... and what that could mean as a ghost.
Danny/Zatanna, Orange, Amaryllis Belladonna
Sleep. Sage is nice and fuzzy so first take away was the texture, but it's also an herb and so we got to sick fic! Just a soft little moment for these two and a little gator.
Danny (Phantom) & Captain Marvel, Green, Wildflowers
Trick or treat. Well, I had to do a magic show with that topic. The flowers are very soft so wanted something sappy. But with the name belladonna, even if it's not those belladonnas, had to have tiny bit of a threat or mystery.
Danny/Jason, Red, Bonsai
Eldritch. Wildflowers made me think of an uncontrollable Phantom and what would cause that and, well, look I know this isn't the angst color but... combined with the prompter very specifically using Phantom and Capetian Marvel it seemed to fit.
Danny/Jason, Blue, Sunflowers
Fight! I was first thinking of a mistaken identity brawl, but that didn't fit bonsai at all. Then I thought it needed to be delicate, but if you've ever watched a master work with bonsai, they are anything but delicate. So then we got to this metaphor!
Danny/Bart, Green, Dahlia
Sleepy. Gonna be honest here, sunflowers = sun was where my brain went right away lol. I also wanted an overall happy and playful feel!
Eldritch. Dahlia are the orbs of flowers that are fractal so a biblically accurate Danny seemed like a place to go! I like to think thanks to time travel Bart and Danny had different first meetings with each other, and none of it in the current time.
Danny/Jason, Violet, Forget-me-not
Angst. How could I not do a death scene with for forget-me-nots? Moku and I had chatted more about the apricot one, and Danny visiting the grave, so I felt this had to tie into that! At least this way you all know it has a happy end?

tl;dr GHOST CORES ARE COOL YO (danny phantom word blast)
ok but like the idea of ghost cores is so fascinating to me???? idk if it’s the lore obsessed eldritch creature in my brain or what but PLEASE fanfic writers, take the helm of the danny phantom ship and steer us towards more ghost core lore!!
There’s so much exploration to be found there, in the connection between ghost cores and the Infinite Realms, and cores and d*ath circumstances, and cores and how powers or abilities manifest!
How many different kinds of cores are there? Is it just a simple divide based on temperature i.e. cold v hot? I feel like there’s too much variation between people of the “ghost zone” and people who can form in the zone to simply leave it at a temp divide! Would it then be based on the common elements of water, earth, air, fire, and their many derivatives? In that case, where do Ancients like Clockwork and Pandora come in? ‘Time’ and ‘Space’ (in the physical, spatial sense, not the galactic sense) don’t seem to be ability types that are just thrown around willy nilly, so does that mean these two (and other Ancients) aren’t truly ghosts? and that they don’t have a real “ghost” core?
I find it so very interesting that the writers chose to give Danny frost-based abilities, and therefore a cold core. Does that decision alone technically indicate there isn’t any kind of link between core formation circumstance and resulting core type? Since Danny formed his core during an electricity-based event, would it not have made more sense to give him a heat core??
And then there’s Vlad! His core was technically formed during the accident with the miniature ghost portal , which didn’t seem to involve anything other then drastic exposure to ectoplasmic radiation, and then we as the fandom have taken to saying he has a heat-based core (I can’t remember if this is actually mentioned in the show). Which heat and “radiation” are sorta connected so that one actually makes sense??
I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS AHH my brain just wants to throw them all at the screen rn!
Shortened List:
What actually determines the type of core a ghost forms?
How many types of cores are there, and what are those types? How are they categorized?
What is the connection between a ghost’s core and the ghost zone? Do cores come into existence spontaneously, and tie a ghost to the zone, or is there already a core created for every creature capable of becoming a ghost, based on a yet-to-be-experienced life?
How can a ghost’s powers/abilities manifest based on their core type?
Does a ghost form around a core, or does the core form inside the ghost? Is a core the source of a ghost’s capital O Obsession?
Is a ghost core really equivalent to a heart? Or is it something entirely new, different?
I could definitely go on. All this to say I greatly enjoy fic writers exploring what it really means for Danny to have a “cold-type” ghost core! He’s cold all the time but he doesn’t notice, or he needs to exist in cool environments to be comfortable, or when it comes to medical aid he needs a very specifically cold physical and material environment to be treated well. He finds Frostbite to be a comforting figure and the Far Frozen feels like a second home (the first being Clockwork’s Lair) because his very core is telling him that this is what he needs, that he will be embraced best by the arms of the ice.

I refuse to believe anything but bottom!dan purely because of the meme.
booo boringggg we hate your pussyyyy
nah jk and i know youre joking lmao but i AM gonna use this as an opportunity to talk about why i hate the like 2015 era culture of dan bottoms uwu" ASIDE FROM LIKE THE OBVIOUS INAPPROPRIATENESS OF SHOVING THAT IN THE FACES OF TWO REAL DUDES.
like idk so much of the like "bottom dan top phil" was purely based on like how 'masculine" the two of them are or are perceived to be? or age or all these other things that i think are really harmful stereotypes toward gay couples in general like the "who's the man who's the woman" type thing. like oh dan is a bottom because he's more feminine, because he's younger, because he just "seems like it" and its like, what about him "seems" like a bottom lmao (again this is exactly what he says in his assumptions video.) and maybe some of it is based on the fact that he plays into the like daddy jokes but even before that ppl would still bottomify him lmao idk.
but same with top!phil, like it reminds me a lot of before they came out, at least around the time i was seeing this kinda stuff, ppl would be like "dan is bi or gay, but phil is definitely straight" which honestly... i think is bc a lot of the community at the time were like, young afab ppl who only knew about queerness (particularly male queerness) thru slashfic and yaoi, so they couldnt read that phil is like. thats butch queen yknow he's masc in like a "i love men so much that i became my ideal man" way. (i mean literally he became an emo to find a hot emo boy) but maybe that's just me and that's something that i am able to read abt him now that he's out idk! but yeah i think that idea of his masculinity then translated into, therefore he is the top in fics.
AND LIKE. we're all mature adults now right? for the most part? obv we're no longer @ ing them on twitter about fic or whatever but i do think this specific aspect of Phan Shipping is still kind of a thing, at least from what i've seen. AND DONT GET ME WRONG, DAN IS BABYGIRL. but i'm just saying. sometimes babygirl is a top.

While I normally don't read them, the thing that really gets to me are the gender swap(specifically Izuku only) or transgender character(normally Izuku as well), and how often these traits are used a props for angst or for porn scenes. Now I am fine with transgender and nonbinary people IRL, it's something about how the subject matter is used in fiction, that negatively affects the experience. While I am aware of the fact that Japanese is beginning to open up on these idea and that MHA takes place in a future version of modern Japan, which wouldn't bat an eye at transgendered characters as we do have a canonical transmale hero with the Wild Pussycat, there's just something more off about when Izuku is the subject character.
Now I am aware that gender swapping characters are likely one of the most common tropes used and is likely one of the first of types of fics a new writer would write about. I'm wondering if it's because of the combination with Izuku being Quirkless, that it combines ableism/disability with sexism/transphobia. Now yes, these are topics that need to be talked about and fiction is a good way to experiment on the writer's knowledge on these topics, it's another thing to go to the "stay in the house" idea or to make Izuku a prop in order to praise Bakugo, since female Izuku x Bakugo(or vice versa) is a common pairing. This isn't even going into the Omegaverse, which probably has its origins based off of a combination of transgenderism, that one redacted study on wolf hierarchy(where the author redo and investigated even more), and wanting to justify MPreg.
So I’m not really going to touch the trans/non-binary fanfics because it’s not my place to talk about them. I do agree that in canon, people wouldn’t really bat an eye to a trans and/or non-binary person, but I feel that those fics are made for the author to talk about trans/non binary issues, hence why the world’s more aggressive to them in these fics. It’s them writing their own experiences through fiction if that makes any sense and I have no place to criticize what they do in those fics.
For the gender swap, I actually have a fic that co-stars a female Izuku. Why did I make Izuku female? It’s to prove a point. A lot of people shit on Izuku for being overly emotional and that he should’ve stood up to Katsuki sooner. I feel that there’s a lot of sexism around these ideas and honestly feel that if Izuku was female, then no one would really have these claims and that Katsuki would be seen in a negative light. However, I do know that a good chunk of fics that star a female Izuku are mainly porn fics and are used as a means to write a straight BkDk story which has Izuku simply exist to be a prop for Katsuki. As someone who is a shipper, I like it when my ships are mutually beneficial to both parties rather than having one person be a prop or prize for the other and agree with what you’ve said there.

i dont have a pairing prompt but what if you just put some guys in a situation - working for the company? :3
tysm for the prompt <3
Coi_ Factory
Jack's in a bad mood. T'ḥiát takes care of it. May has a not great time.
ft. @greenghostlyjekyll's Jack & @ichaisme's May :3 based on a real conversation lmao
words: 1,250 general fic warnings: light/playful violence; coil-heads
Fic under cut!
Generally, Jack was pretty chill, T'ḥiát would tell you. But really, you should not trust T'ḥiát’s opinion for diddly squat, as they tended to be an idiot. People who had worked with them would tell you that it must be that TZP that they were constantly inhaling like it was oxygen that muddled their brain to hell and back.
Jack was chill, sure, but they also did not mind if you ended up becoming mulch, as long as quota was hit and enough was made to head out to that desolate, far away planet Titan.
Jack, dissatisfied with the newbies, and finding that they had lost one of them on quota number two, decided that the 120 chip price was more than sufficient to enlist T'ḥiát’s services once again - an idea assisted by the fact that T'ḥiát’s price of a fresh TZP can (instead of the empty canisters that the company begrudgingly gave them as payment) was 70% off in the shop. Well worth it, in Jack’s eyes.
Especially after they were bunked up with one of the newbies on the next moon, who asked something so stupid, so ridiculous, so uneducated about Jack’s home planet that Jack only looked at them like they were crazy and stormed off, hoping they would get eaten by a spider or something.
Unfortunately for Jack, the “or something” happened, and that something was ‘got back to the ship only minorly injured from a stupid fall’.
T'ḥiát, darting around the ship in a spazzing manner that defied some law of physics (clearly trying to savor the canister of TZP, only using it on the moons) noticed their bad mood, and zipped over.
“What’s the matter, Jacks?” they asked, bouncing up and down. They stilled suddenly, head tilting. Someone who did not know T'ḥiát might have been unnerved. “You seem a bit miffed!”
“Nothing, nothing, it’s fine, just…” Jack gave a quiet growl. “Somethin’ stupid is all.”
“You can always talk to me,” T'ḥiát shrugged, hopping up on top of the controls console. “Even if you think it’s stupid, if it’s bothering you, it’s bothering me.”
“Someone just asked me, and I quote,” Jack said, raising their fingers to make bunny ear quotations in the air. “‘Does Titan have coil factories’?”
T'ḥiát stared at them - or one could assume so, by the way their blank visor was pointed directly at them without moving.
“Oh, no.” they remarked, in denial. “No one could know that little about the moons.”
“Well, they asked!” Jack gestured without any specific motions. Their helmet was off, so they took the advantage of being able to pinch the bridge of their nose. “Like! Buddy! Where do you think all the damn coil heads come from, Experimentation? Yeah, right, the only good that place is for is faulty V-type engines!”
“Who asked that?” T'ḥiát wondered aloud. Jack pointed at the person ringing the company bell, and growled, “The FNG, who else?”
“I see!” T'ḥiát replied lightly. “I’ll go give ‘em a talk.”
“You go do that, buddy,” Jack grumbled, though their mood was a little uplifted. “I appreciate it.”
“A lesson they won’t soon forget,” T'ḥiát went on, probably with a smile. Jack blinked, raising an eyebrow. “Bye!”
Jack watched them leave, and put a stick of gum in their mouth contemplatively.
“Alright. I guess.”
T'ḥiát came back after a few minutes of chatting with the new employee.
“Done,” T'ḥiát remarked. “We’re going to Titan next quota.”
--
The snowy expanse of Titan loomed around them. The FNG was already in the complex, gathering loot with T'ḥiát.
Said addict slammed down into the ship, and nudged Jack.
“Doing well!” T'ḥiát chirped, then pressed the can of TZP to the inhalation module on their suit for exactly nine seconds. Their voice slightly higher than normal, they went on, “Going back!”
The next time they came back with a haul, Jack grabbed their arm.
“What did you do to the newbie?” Jack asked. “Why was she so excited to come here?”
“I told her that there were no coil factories on Titan,” T'ḥiát replied calmly, ignoring the eye twitch that was no doubt occurring behind Jack’s visor. “I told them that there’s a coin factory here and that cash registers are all the rage.”
“Mhm,” Jack contemplated their words for a long moment. Then they nodded. “They're gonna die.”
“Ya, probably,” T'ḥiát agreed, then their arm was by their side again, as though Jack was never holding it in the first place. “Unless I feel bad enough for them. Well, going back.”
Jack nodded, and watched them sprint off, chuckling to themself as they went back to the monitor.
Sure enough, there was a red dot in front of the new guy.
The new guy was strafing, one inch at a time.
Jack leaned back and smiled.
--
“Uh… can I get a bit of help?”
The newbie’s distressed voice bounced along the corridors. T'ḥiát sighed, making their way to the sound's origin.
“Ask nicely!” they called out, gauging the location of the lost employee. “Quick!”
“Please?”
T'ḥiát came up swiftly, tilting their head and walking up to the coil head. They circled around it, and nodded once.
“That there’s a coil head, alright,” they commented unnecessarily. The new guy gave a wheeze of fear. “Don’t you worry, I’ll get you out of here just fine. I see you got your cash register. May, was it?”
“Yeah- yes,” May replied, trembling hard. “I want to get out of here. Now.”
“Calm down princess,” T'ḥiát soothed, shaking their can of TZP. “If you want, you can have a bit of this, it’ll help your nerves. Just promise that you’ll apologize to good ol’ Jack about the coil factories question when we get back. They got pretty offended by it.”
“I didn’t think that it was an offensive question!” she defended herself with some bewilderment. T'ḥiát sighed and pushed her along. “Where are we going?”
“Fire exit. Keep moving forward. I’ve got Mr. Crybaby.”
“Crybaby?”
“Don’t question it. Make a left. Your other left.”
“To the glowing red dot?”
“That’s it. Right out there.”
T'ḥiát waited until they heard the door shut behind them before they phased through the crack.
May was breathing hard outside of the door. T'ḥiát nudged her to get her to start moving.
“You’re a jerk,” May hissed. T'ḥiát shrugged. “I’m going to- to hurt you.”
“Sure, doll,” T'ḥiát replied, just as peppy as usual. “That’s a nice cash register you’ve got there. Better make it count. Better crack my skull open in one shot.”
“I’m not going to do that!?” May gasped, shocked. T'ḥiát tilted their head at her as they jumped down onto the lighting - May taking the stairs, like a normal person. They asked; “Why not?”
“Because- because I’m not going to kill you!”
“Coward,” T'ḥiát hummed. May stared at them through her visor. “Jack’s probably going to kill me when we get back onto the ship. Be more like Jack.”
“Why would they kill you when we get back?!”
“You.”
Sure enough, as soon as they stepped onboard, Jack clonked T'ḥiát on the head with a shovel. They dropped like a popped balloon. May did not like thinking about the fact that their suit looked the part.
--
“Why did you save them!?” Jack demanded when they were in orbit again, shaking T'ḥiát violently. They shrugged, now next to the computer and out of Jack’s grip. “T'ḥiát! Stop teleporting!”
“I don’t teleport. Also - I felt bad.”
May rang her cash register.

True Confessions of a Cosmere Blogger
[There's a Stormlight spoiler in here! For Oathbringer specifically]
Followers, friends, people who ended up here through tumblr's broken search function: it is time. Time for me to lay bare all of my most terrible secrets as a Cosmere blogger. I am ready, and I hope you are too, for these very honest and real confessions.
1. I don't fucking know how to spell Gavinar Galivar Gavilar's name
Real talk: I had to look up the spelling to make this joke because I couldn't remember which was the right spelling and which were the wrong spellings. It's the grandson, I think. It's not fair to have Gavilar (I had to look at the wiki again) and Gavinor (I had to look this up too) have such similar names, not to mention Dalinar (I'm good there) making me forget whether it's the L or the V first in that dude's name. Seriously, this guy's name is the hardest part of writing any Roshar list.
2. My wife came up with my most popular list
I think my very first post is still my most popular: "How Other Cosmere Characters Would Convince The Stick to Become Fire." And who came up with this awesome idea? My wife! I was hemming and hawing about whether to actually start this blog, and she was like, "Hey, what about a list where everyone tries to convince the stick to become fire?" and let me tell you, that list wrote itself--I couldn't type fast enough. The jokes may be mine, but the idea, which is the funniest part, was all her.
My wife had another really good list idea that I still haven't written, since I haven't found a way to do it justice, but when I finally write it, I bet it'll do great.
3. I don't watch Brandon Sanderson's videos
I don't know. I just have trouble watching Videos On The Internet. I had to FORCE myself to watch the Secret Projects announcement since nobody would say what it was, and that was super hard.
4. I don't read fanfic
I think my blog would classify as fanfic, so it would be fair to say that I write it but I don't read it. I've only read like two fics in my life, and they were both because the girl I had a crush on at the time ordered me to (and yes...it was Wincest). No real idea why I don't read it; just something about my brain, I guess. It does mean that I am trying to understand shipping dynamics and fan preferences through tumblr osmosis, which is why my shipping-based lists may occasionally just leave out some huge pairing I was entirely unaware of (like Navani & Ialai, apparently! Whoops)
5. This is my third list blog
I like to pretend that "list blog" is a genre. It actually worked for a while! I had atlalists first--I joined tumblr because I was writing lists for my own amusement and my roommate at the time told me they thought it would do well on tumblr-- and then bleachlists. Bleachlists was the height of my success; I got so many asks & list requests that I had to create a whole separate blog, askbleachlists, just to handle them. I wrote three lists...A DAY. And some other people made their own "list blogs" inspired by bleachlists, which was wonderful. People made art--I still have some of the bleach art people made hanging in my office. It was fun! Then I left tumblr for a while, and now I'm back with cosmerelists.
6. I thought about making this blog a LONG time before I did it
It just felt really scary! The Cosmere has so much lore and so many characters and so many magic systems and I do NOT have a handle on it all. I read Stormlight Archive 2 1/2 times in preparation, hoping to at least have a handle on that part. But what helped, actually, was going to the Cosmere DragonCon panel last year, listening to the questions, and realizing that nobody really understood the majority of what was going on. So that made me feel better. And in the end, it was just something I wanted to do, and it's my way of enjoying a fandom, so I thought I'd give it a try.
7. Sometime I forget major plot points (Oathbringer spoiler)
I put Demid in a poll as a Bondsmith candidate and people were like, "isn't he dead?" I still don't remember him dying. I'm so sorry, Demid.
At least I can spell your name...right?

If I wasn't so distracted by New York (I redid his face 7 times 😭😭), I would so rant about NY/CALI/NJ with you
Let me finish drawing him and I would send you a message in discord if you're okay with that!
are you joking Tumblr- WHY DID I MISS THIS???
this isn't late totally uh. you had to redo his face? 7 times?? damn- 😭. he does have a face that is so specific that if it's done wrong it doesn't look like him at all lol (that could just be me)
anyways, i'm always fine with getting messages on discord! i'm not active much on any messaging app, really, since I don't talk to many people- but I would gladly talk to you! (just ignore how late or fast my responses are. i'm a busy not busy person, 🥲)
I was going through my long list of fic wips (I have like, 100+ atp) and came to the realization that my NY/CA/NJ brain rot is in fact not something recent, but a months old ship i've had simmering in my brain. so that's cool lol (I really need to talk to someone about my memory problems-). I have so many headcanons and thoughts of them, and recently finally came up with a base of what I want their relationship to look like (basically their personality shit and how they piece together like a puzzle) since i've been running with a small amount of ideas on them for a while now. anyways, i'm rambling LMFAO. NY/CA/NJ is something I breathe, eat, sleep, and drink and I think I would physically combust if I didn't have the like, two-three fics of their ship on ao3 and my own little ideas.
the day I have someone to ramble about them is the day I will die peacefully lol
(below is my random NY/CA/NJ thing so I can tag this with the appropriate character tags and not make this a random post clogging up tags)
New York wasn't too fond of California in the beginning, and had a hate "relationship" type thing with New Jersey. The two of them (NY & NJ) would frequently hook up to let out frustration and anger, usually leaving before the other woke up and not speaking about what had happened the night before.
Well during this time New York started getting pulled towards California because of little things that he had started to notice. (The way he was not afraid to stand up for what he believed in, how he was such a hypocrite at times yet could be endearing in a weird way. Even started realizing that California was interested in having some sort of relationship with him after the countless times California had came up to him and "talked" ((New York wasn't really responding. Also that relationship is called friends, New York.)) to him about random things.) It really made him think about his relationships with New Jersey and now, California, and made things complicated in his mind.
New Jersey could tell that something was off about New York and even started trying to confront him about it (after learning about the "friendship" New York had with California now. he ignored the jealousy he felt when New York rambled about it for the first time ((also when they had started to actually talk more than they used to.))) He tried his best to give him some advice and help, but it's the Northeast and the relationship he has with New York is already confusing and messy, so he didn't do much. (New York thought his advice was helpful, although he'd never admit that.)
New York later started to come to find out that his platonic thoughts for the two weren't so platonic (dude you're literally hooking up with New Jersey- how in any way is that platonic??), which made life even harder for him. How the hell is he supposed to ignore his feelings when he has a (friends? enemies? he doesn't know anymore) with benefits with NJ and frequently hooking up with him, while practically spending all of his time with California? (you could say they're teetering on this weird line of best friends and acquaintances.)
anyways there's my two cents of my NY/CA/NJ lore that I have been meaning to write for so long now.

WIP Wednesday!
Never done one of these (mostly because I never actually thought of it in time for a Wednesday), but they’ve always looked fun. And when am I not going to take the chance to ramble about my own writing? I love hearing what people think about it.
My biggest and most favourite headcanon is that John is autistic.
So this is very based off of that. And the fact that I am autistic and want to read and write about autistic characters!
It’s set after The Man From TB5 episode, because I just watched it twice in a row (yes back to back, I’d been having A Day), because I love it. So much John!
And I wanted to write John just unwinding after it, because parties are Exhausting, but then it kinda grew a bit from there. (Because Characters keep having Feelings and I am evidently incapable of writing just fluff because it always morphs into some kind of hurt/comfort something.) And John does not know that he is autistic yet. (I’d hope by 2060 we’d be a lot better at figuring this out and actually supporting people, but this was how the fic was going.)
@amistrio I started replying to you but then I started writing fic!
Bits of Amistrio and my discussion because we both have this headcanon if you want to hear more Here.
I’ve been poking about this a bunch today because I’m excited. Even to the point of typing on my phone on the bus. I’ve got most of the parts I want to include down, but I just need to get them in a coherent order. So here’s the first bit!
Enjoy Thunderfam! *waves in particular to the neurodivergent ones*
-----
((Set after ‘The Man From TB5′ episode.))
John flopped down in the passenger seat of Thunderbird One with all the gracelessness of not expecting gravity to be there. He tipped his head back to lean on the head rest, closing his eyes against the everything.
Scott’s voice came from the front of the ship. “So, how was it?”
John cracked his eyes back open
“No fatalities,” he reported, “The mission was a success in spite of the structural damage.”
“I meant the party, but good to hear,” Scott replied.
Oh. He had thought— well, Scott could have been more specific. (Or John could be less literal, that would help.)
The party.
Because that’s what it had been. Instead of the small charity auction he was expecting, there had been a massive gathering of people: all talking, drinking, socialising. His idea of a worst nightmare.
“It’s me, Scott. How do you think it went?” John said flatly.
Scott made a sympathetic noise.  “You did seem pretty eager to get out of there.”
Under the light teasing, his brother knew that this type of Situation was not John’s forte.
He’d hauled John up into Thunderbird One when it became clear John would rather climb the grapple cable than be put down on the platform, full of jostling clamouring people wanting to crowd around him to congratulate their rescuer now the danger was over.
John’s heart was still racing. Whether it was more from the adrenaline in his bloodstream after his fall from the sky or the idea of nearly being back amongst all of that again, it was impossible for him to tell.
He took a deep breath.
Thunderbird One’s jets roared, the noise from the engines thrumming through the cahelium. John shifted in his seat. The sound scraped against his ears and vibrated through his body, setting him on edge. He could feel it in his teeth.
John took another deep breath.

I would give anything to watch/read/head a comprehensive analysis of the dramione fandom. Like how/if famous fics influenced the fics that came after them. Trends through the years. The main differences between fics written before the HP books were completed and after the fact. Character arcs and how commenters reacted to them. Some other aspect I wouldn't even think to note... It would be so interesting!
I can't give you a proper analysis but I can't try to answer your questions.
Many authors will tell you if another fic specifically inspired them. There were a few that were inspired by "Manacled" by SenLinYu. A few people wrote sequels to "Master" by Akashathekitty, with her permission.
With regards to trends, whenever a new trope pops up, many people write about it. Marriage Law started in the Hermione/Snape fandom in the mid-00s, but somehow came across here and has been a very popular trope in the fandom since. In the early 00s, when Harry Potter fanfiction started, many Dramione fics were very OOC. They didn't include Voldemort. They had the Malfoys not being involved in the war. A lot of the stories were based in Hogwarts and were very "high school drama teen romance" types. You also have a lot of very AU fics popping up in the late 00s/early 10s. Like fics, where authors include their own magical systems, their own magic theory, and wandlore.
As the books and movies came out, authors started to change their themes to reflect canon. So you started to see more war Era fics, more darker themes, and what we will call true to character fics. Fics with Draco being a death eater, fics with Hermione being on the run, fics showing the war and battles and strategies and the horrors of war.
By the time the movies were completed, there were still a lot of war fics, but you started to see more post-war fics. Fics of what happens now. Year 8 fics, head boy and head girl fics, the character being working adults, Draco getting his redemption, etc. Of course, all these tropes mentioned were being written about since the beginning, but to me this is what I saw more of as time when on.
As for feedback/comments, I think as time went on, people got nicer in their comments and remarks to authors. If you look back at older stories, people didn't hold back when it came to the comment section. They were mean and insulting. As time went on, people became nicer and more careful with what they said. Also, more people were giving constructive criticism rather than "i love this!! <3".
Another thing that changed over the 2 decades of dramione is the quality of the stories in terms of planning, writing, spelling and grammar, and length. Before no one had a beta, now it is seen as a requirement. Some even have multiple betas. People will definitely call you out if you have plot holes, if something doesn't make sense, etc. Authors put in a lot of work into writing their fics, planning in advance about what is happening in their stories and their characters. Some even take weeks of planning before even writing something.
How a person advertises their stories have also changed. With social media being very prominent in our society, a lot of authors use it to promote their stories, give readers sneak peaks of new chapters, make moodboards to give readers a better idea of their characters, the moods, the setting. They commission artwork for their stories, and someone might even do it for free. They are able to reach out to their fans and directly talk to them. Before, you just posted a story online, and that was it.
The hate and negativity of the fandom have also changed. Before, no one cared for fanfiction in general. People thought it was weird, and those who read or wrote it were also weird. But as time we on, nerd/geek culture became more popular, and people expressed it more. People got a better idea of what fanfiction actually is and started to get into it. So, more people were exposed to non-canon ships, which led to people not liking it and more hate to anyone who did.
Social media also allowed fans to have a community where they can talk about fics, critique it, and help each other out. But of course, this led to bullying someone for liking one fic over another. It led to insulting authors for writing about a particular topic, and it led to people getting together to make sure someone who they didn't like didn't get readers. It led to people just up and leaving the fandom because people just constantly picked on them.
For the character of Draco, as time went in, his characterization went from "normal" school bully to indoctrinated racist young boy. Authors gave a better background to his character, which explained why he did what he did. They humanized him and started to write realistic ways in which a person like him can change. Also, as people in the fandom grew up, people started to understand the themes and characters of the original books better, so we too saw that it's not black and white when it comes to Draco. So we have a lot of support to authors who wrote a Draco the we saw him, which led to newer tropes in the fandom popping up, like Draco going to Azkaban for a few years, Draco becoming an Auror, Draco being involved in chariry work.
That characterization of Hermione to me hasn't really changed. She was always a fan favourite. Older stories were a bit of a self-insert. They also had her character being very "Mary Sue" like. You still see that now sometimes. I think authors have also done a good job in keeping her very much like her character in canon.
Of course, this is just what I observed over the years. I started to read Dramione fanfiction around 2008-2009, so we'll over a decade in the fandom, I've seen a lot. But this is just my experience and my POV.

🐉 Year of the Dragon Lunar New Year DMBJ Treat Exchange 🐉
Tumblr media
We are going to HOP (get it… Year of the Rabbit!) into 2023 with an idea that is a new format for the DMBJ Fandom. The Lunar New Year Treat Exchange is a slow burn of an exchange, with low pressure and plenty of time to create, and is open to fan creators of all types - writers, artists, vidders, gif makers, and all others.
Based on the Fandom Stocking and Fandom Giftbox exchanges that used to run on LiveJournal and Dreamwidth, no-one will be assigned to create a gift for any specific person - instead, anyone who would like a treat signs up with their wishlist of characters, ships, likes, and prompts (and DNWs!). This list is open for browsing, and anyone who feels inspired to create for anyone else is free to do so and add the treat to the AO3 collection for the event. All treats will then be revealed at the Lunar New Year!
Since the New Year for ‘Year of the Rabbit’ is so soon (22 Jan 2023), the first LNY reveal will be for the ‘Year of the Dragon’, on 10 February 2024.
This exchange is open to all the DMBJ canons - if it’s DMBJ, then it’s eligible! Since all treats are to be posted to the AO3 collection, you will need an AO3 account to participate – if you don’t have one, you can request an invitation code here, or ask for an invitation from existing AO3 members.
🐉 Schedule 🐉
Sign-ups open: January 22nd, 2023 - The Year of the Rabbit
Sign-ups close: October 30th, 2023
Deadline for all treats completed and posted: January 21st, 2024
‘Pinch Hit’ period to ensure everyone signed up has at least one treat: January 21st - February 9th, 2024
Treats reveals: February 10th, 2024 - The Year of the Dragon
Creator reveals: February 17th, 2024
🐉 Guidelines 🐉
1. You can start creating treat fills whenever you like - you do not have to wait for sign-ups to close.
2. You do not have to sign up with a request yourself in order to create a treat for someone else.
3. While you do not have to create a treat for someone else if you sign up with requests for treats yourself, we ask that you do create at least one treat.
4. When choosing requests to treat for, please prioritise anyone who does not yet have a treat (the list of requests will be regularly updated to show Y/N as to whether or not someone has a treat fill yet).
     a. If there is anyone without a treat fill by the time of the deadline, mods will ask for people to create treats so that everyone who signed up receives at least one treat.
5. Your creation/s must focus on your recipient’s requested characters or ship (or one or more of their requested ships, if they have nominated multiple ones). While unrequested background ships are fine (unless listed as a Do Not Want), if it is a shippy creation then the focused ship/s must be one or more of the requested ships.
6. You will be expected to create a treat matching your recipient’s request. Filling any specifying prompts is not obligatory, but try to create something you honestly think your recipient will enjoy!
7. You must not include anything that your recipient has listed as a DNW (Do Not Want). Not even as a one-line throwaway reference.
8. The minimum requirements for the treats are 300 words for fic, one sketch on unlined paper for art (traditional or digital), a 3 panel manip or set of 3 single panel manips, a fanvid of any length, or any other fanwork of equal effort.
9. You can create as many treats as you like over the creation period.
10. This is an anonymous exchange: refrain from discussing your assignment in public. After the works are revealed, there’ll be a one-week anon period when the creators remain anonymous before the creator reveals.
11. You are welcome to post your treat to other sites in addition to AO3, such as Lofter, but please ensure that you do post it to AO3 as well so that your giftee gets the notification.
12. Most importantly: be excellent to each other!
🐉 Sign-Up Information 🐉
Sign-ups will take place via Google Form, starting on January 22nd, 2023. The form will be posted in a separate post when sign-ups begin.
The form will ask you for your name and for a link to your Dear Creator letter. Your Dear Creator letter is where you will fill out your request, and can be hosted anywhere you like - Tumblr, Dreamwidth, Google Docs, etc.
Sign-ups will close on October 30th, 2023. While no new sign-ups will be accepted after this date, you are still able to make amendments to your Dear Creator letter.
Treat creation can begin at any time after January 22nd - you do not have to wait for sign-ups to close before creating treats.
🐉 Dear Creator Letters 🐉
Your Dear Creator letter should contain the following information:
Preferred DMBJ canon: You have to choose at least one. If you’re willing to receive a treat in any canon era, you can just say “Any”!
Characters: You have to choose at least one character that you would like your treat to be about.
Relationships: These can be any platonic, romantic, or sexual relationships you would like in a treat. “None” is a perfectly valid answer here.
General Likes: This isn’t a place for detailed prompts, just general themes you enjoy. E.g. getting together, established relationship, alternate universe, dark, crack, hurt/comfort, etc.
DNW (Do Not Wants): Things that your creator must not include - squicks, triggers, or characters or things that you simply don’t like. Remember that you don’t owe anyone an explanation about why something is a DNW, and that DNWs are not meant to be taken personally. Just list the things you don’t like, “DNW: X, Y.”
Prompts/specific ideas: if you have any prompts, you can also put them here! You can be as general or as detailed as you’d like, but remember that while your creator will try to make the best gift for you, filling a specific prompt is not obligatory. You can include a crossover prompt (with other DMBJ verse or other canons entirely), but make sure it’s not the only prompt you have.
Please note in your Dear Creator letter if you are happy to receive a treat in Chinese.
You can make changes to your Dear Creator letter at any time, but please keep in mind that the later you make changes, the higher the chance that someone may have already created a treat for you that will not have those changes taken into account - this includes late DNW additions, so please try to ensure that any/all DNWs are listed as early as possible, and that late changes are just additions to prompts and things you like.
🐉 Multi-chapter Fics 🐉
If you are writing a multi-chapter fic for a treat and don’t want to drop the entire fic at once, these are the posting guidelines for it:
At least the first chapter posted by the deadline, ready for the reveals on February 10.
From February 10, aim to post at least one chapter daily.
All chapters of the fic must be posted by the time of creator reveals on February 17 (If the fic is more than 7 chapters long, then this will mean that multiple chapters will need to be posted on some days).
🐉 Other Info 🐉
If you have any questions, ask on the YuCun Discord or submit a question to @dmbjexchange or @thetombraidersguild
Please follow @dmbjexchange or @thetombraidersguild for announcements and reminders.

Requests are OPEN
Are you interested in requesting? It’s the right time! Requests for art and writing will be open from July 31 to September 1. Please, keep in mind that these requests / suggestions are free, so even though I am committed to filling them all, I might not be able to do so in short time depending on my work / study / life schedule.
REQUESTS ARE OPEN FROM JULY 31 TO SEPTEMBER 1
Requests can be sent via: Tumblr Ask Box* | Curious Cat* | Twitter (X?)
*Both allow anonymous questions, so you can actually send requests anonymously as well in case you were too shy to do so without anon!
I will be accepting requests mainly for My Hero Academia** and Demon Slayer. These will be priority requests.
However, you can try and ask for something from a different fandom (gaming as well), I will tell you straight away if it’s something I am a fan of and want to try, or not; just as I’ll tell you when it’s a romantic ship that I don’t like for personal reasons and I cannot bring myself to draw for example. NSFW requests are now allowed (adult characters only), but they will not be posted on the platforms that don’t allow them such as Tumblr! Please, just feel free to drop whatever you feel like dropping, whether it’s just a hint, a specific image/idea, keywords, types of AU!
**For romantic ships writing requests, I will only accept Dabi x Hawks, Akaza x Rengoku, Toga x Ochako.
Important notice: based on the time on my hands and the type of request (how detailed it is, how it inspiring it is to me in that moment), I might fill them in different ways. Could be a drabble, could be a longer fic, could be a doodle, could be a comic kind of situation. Please, be patient with me! ❤

kinda thinking about stuff based on a sort of weird ask an artist I follow got
The ask was basically a “how come I can’t make a fandom around this new story you did” bc the artist is selling a sort of abstraction of their own experiences as a comic using what they enjoy
don’t think I gotta explain how rude that actually is, and I’m not writing this as a “oh I’m so much better” type thought
But having been on tumblr I had interacted within fandoms, but I don’t really recall any of them, it was mainly ask blogs, and I even created a few short lived ones bc it just wasn’t interesting for me (and one case where the only other person who knew about the obscure anime went and drew cp of one of the main characters so? I was gone. Can’t enjoy that anymore, really wish I could. But I have that image burned in my mind and when I confronted them they refused by the “technically an adult” excuse even though this was a character shown at different ages, weird how they wouldn’t use the adult version but they didn’t like me saying that.)
The only real “fandom” I’ve ever actually been concretely into is Pokémon, but after I grew up more I didn’t make original characters who were Pokémon, and while I tried to rp I didn’t understand how it worked, so I mostly made up stories for myself that were just things I wanted, where Pokémon was the vehicle and medium
I enjoy creating aus for things I like if it works? But I wouldn’t say I’m a fandom person. The way tumblr(the culture of a portion of the site) looks at fandom has always been strange to me, even as I hyperfixate. I kind of thought something was wrong with me…? Like was I consuming media wrong? I don’t ship often, or think too far into headcanons, I mainly take it apart and see what info is in the media. I may draw conclusions but often this is done by myself
Often I’ll sort of enjoy something, maybe even love it, have a phase and then move on- if I talk about it w others it’s via analyzing it or just being excited about it, seeking out fanart… (blocking ppl who are Annoying or doing a They Would Not Fucking Say That or a weird version of the character that is bastardized)
If I put it in statistical terms it’s like I interpolate data (information) instead of extrapolate… like I go between points of info instead of going too far outside of the story, maybe because I’ve only ever seen one exploration of the concept that actually worked- one random disco elysium fic that essentially made its own new case for Kim and harry. Some things were a lil clumsy, but they actually were very careful w balancing characterization, themes, and ideas to create something new that wasn’t alienating. It was nice to finally understand how people talk about good fanfics. But uh, I avoided fanfic bc they usually alienated me due to inconsistencies or focused on shipping or a specific idea that didn’t really mesh
Idk, I have stories I hold dear to me, but fandom ocs usually either sorta die off or are adapted to a regular oc. I can make the number of ships I enjoy on one hand… I just like stories

**deep sigh** I’ve just been plagued with OC thoughts which also delved into a thought for a fic surrounding the heart pirates and specifically law which turns into more oc stuff djdnjfidjdnd.
This is all completely unhinged but if I get it out maybe it’ll stop playing on loop in my brain so I can finish my other writing also content warning for dark content/general OP canon dark ness but warning nonetheless
But imagine if there was a gaggle of marines that were either kicked out for reasons or they are still in but feel they’re not being recognized for their strength and talents and want to be higher up in the marines so their genius idea because one of them has medical experience and has heard of ceasar etc (I’m sure there’s other names I’m missing you could insert here liek Moria or somethinf I’m typing like the wind on my phone to get back to what I’m doing lol! I just really fucking hate ceasar so him okay) - but I digress- their genius idea is to raid a small island and capture the population and attempt to use them as experiments bc they want to create a fucking POISON from SEA PRISM STONE to use on LAW.
didn’t think we’d get there did you haha! But they want to do that bc they think capturing the surgeon of death would bring them enough recognition to be high up in the marines like they want, and found out from some intense paper rifling they shouldn’t have been doing etc about the stories of laws disease as a kid and figure, he has a devil fruit power, what if we could create a poison that would not only actually poison him in a way he can’t cure bc of the sea prism stone powder etc, and something that would give him effects similar to the one he had as a kid (imagining he doesn’t have scars - I like to pretend he does but for this we’ll say he doesn’t) giving him the white patches to hopefully trigger some ptsd and make him lose his will to fight even further (or just kill him either way works for them)
so these fucked up marines desiccate the island, they’re not geniuses by any means but they’re strong enough and there’s really not all THAT many inhabitants on the island especially not many that can fight and not a lot of transponder snails either so they manage to succeed in capturing the inhabitants and creating a base on the island for their experiments - they wanted this island specifically bc the tide is strong one side of the island draws in a lot of ships - used to they’d just turn around and leave bc there really wasn’t a lot there but now the marines would take over the ships/crews that couldn’t escape and use them as experiments- if they had devil fruit powers even better bc they could better test their poison on instead of just regular people as well as eating any devil fruits themselves they find as they do this to get stronger
cue/cut to where the fic would actually start w law and his crew needing to surface and get supplies etc, being close to the island deciding to see what’s there and get supplies since it did seem like there was a town there etc and have like maybe bepo Shachi peng ikkaku go looking into town for supplies and cue marine squirmishes and trying to capture them.
but my oc would enter and help them get back to their ship bc she sees bepo w them and wanted to take a chance seeing if they’d take another mink back to Zou.
My oc and 2 other girls were raised by a rabbit mink who found them on her travels when they were kids, and they happened to be on this island when the marines came some years later. They’d all been captured and experimented on at some point but all 4 (3 girls and the mink) managed to escape/ help each other escape over the years and they’ve trained and fought hard to try and help any ships that get pulled in to leave before they’re captured and won’t leave themselves till they get rid of the marines that poisoned them and the last couple prisoners are freed.
but the mink that raised them would be older and weaker now esp after being poisoned (thankfully w the test poison pre sea prism stone enhancements) and wanted to get back to Zou before she died.
ofc law would see their scars and be T R I G G E R E D lol but he would obviously panic and ask wtf and be given the brief downlow of what my OCs know, which is mainly that the marines wanna find some surgeon of death and poison him with sea prism stone so they’re marine heros, and they spend their time trying not to be poisoned and not let the marines find that fucking surgeon lol,
which obviously would do lots of mental gymnastics for law who also has a soft spot for bepo and bepo would also want to help the mink I believe esp after being helped back to their ship and shach and peng obviously would want to help the pretty girls (look I want them to have a w for once sue me) but also just to help and after hearing all that of course the crew has to get involved, and I think it would be a great opportunity to explore a lot w the heart pirates and laws backstory and afterwards I can shuck 3/4 OCs back where they came from and keep my best girl on the crew w peng and shach thank u for coming to my Ted talk I feel so much better I know this is total crack nonsense but I needed it OUT!!!! Now I can finally fucking focus on these Shachi fics

I'd love to see some commentary on Swipes of Sword and Fan, I'm curious when it comes to more variety-type fics where the inspiration for different chapters comes from and the like. And here's a ⭐ for anything you'd like to talk about in general about whatever!
Thank you!! Looking back im actually pretty proud of this little collection im slowly building up, though to be honest I didn't give it too much thought when I started.
It started out as a bit of a joke, the first chapter was basically just me posting one of the drabbles I sometimes write when somebody sends me a quick description. I just rolled with the premise while staying as close to those two crazy criminals as I could. I posted it as the first chapter of a "collection" half jokingly as an affectionate jab at a trend in fanfiction that is kinda dead these days but was damn near impossible to avoid just a few years back.
People taking an entire prompts list, anywhere from thirty to a hundred, and using that to make a chronologically loose collection of stories based entirely around one ship or group. A select few went the distance and did the whole bunch, but most of them stopped at around the 15 mark. Which is plenty impressive, sure, but it always struck me as evidence that fanfic writers have an awful little habit of biting off more than they can chew.
A habit I'm sure long time readers of my work will no doubt know that I share. The amount of times I said "IM GONNA MAKE A LONG FIC OUTTA THIS ONE JUST YOU WATCH" to myself only to get distracted later on by scheduling issues or just getting attached to another idea... Ah well.
So, yeah, I posted that first chapter as a bit of a jab at myself "oh yeah sure im going to make a collection out of this, the whole nine yards!...probably gonna make it an even 30, be surprised if it hits 15", and the first few chapters came to me like lightning. Since I established the setting in the summary, I pretty much gave myself the freedom to make any story I wanted so long as it was in that very vaguely defined period of time.
Any story. Any at all. Whatever weird idea came to my head with these two that I could fit on two-three pages. I kinda went nuts. Most chapters were born from a quick idea I had like "hey so what if anji got jealous?" or "how do they deal with bounties anyway?" and others I had to really sit with like "...what were Baiken's parents like?" or "tying shoes must be a pain in the ass" or "oh hey what if Anji actually did feel guilty and afraid of his actions hurting the one person he cared about" and so on.
It's gotten to the point where I'm actually fairly certain I will hit that 30 chapter mark at some point. I'm not putting myself on any time line, I just post whenever I have a suitably dense and short story I wanna add. And boom.
and im gonna use the star as a chance to rant a little about how petty I personally can be about comments. First off, I love getting any kinda comment at all, if its a simple "OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS" or something along those lines, I will gobble it up like its delicious because it is.
But! Personally speaking if you really wanna make me happy as a writer, I really REALLY like those comments that pick a sentence or a segment and go "OH I REALLY LIKE THIS PART HERE'S A QUICK RANT WHY". Been this way since I wrote weird OC shit on DeviantArt back in the day, craving that very specific "you did good" validation.
Seriously tho, if a reader doesn't have it in them to write a Formal Review of my fanfic I'm not gonna hold it against them. I probably won't answer because I'm honestly genuinely awkward like that. But the dopamine shot of "Comment on AO3" lasts longer if the comment is also longer, you know? I've read comments that made me dance in place and pump my fists like I won a marathon. that shit rocks and readers who take the time to indulge my need for overly specific praise are a treasure.

✨🎊NEW FIC JUST DROPPED🎉✨
I know I said I was probably gonna have a tiny hiatus, buuut I ended up writing a bunch to cope instead, so here it is!
Yes, I mean the OctaViper pirate au, the one I've been bitching about for like a week or something, the one I told myself "this is a self indulgent, back burner type thing, I'm just gonna have fun and not stress about it" about, and then proceeded to get super invested in research and spent hours of my life tryna make it period accurate. That fic. My beloved, horrible child that has given me nothing but trouble yet I'm still so excited to send it out into the world. Please enjoy this dumbshit pain in my ass.
Gonna be adding some thoughts and ref images under the cut, you're gonna wanna read the chapter first. Here there be spoilers.
First off, their ships.
Jamil's ship, The Scarab (reference to Scarabia), is a Baghlah dhow, a relatively light speedy cargo ship mainly used by people of the Arabian peninsula. Some references for the structure and style:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Azul's ship, The Sea Witch, is a spanish Galleon. They outweigh Baghlahs by several hundred tons, armed to the teeth, and while not as fast as a Baghlah, still surprisingly fast for what is just an overall monstrosity of a ship. There's no examples for the specific color scheme and decor, but here's an idea of the general size and over the top style:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're just generally Extra™. So is pirate Azul.
Speaking of extra, the outfits!
-Jamil wears mostly traditional Sands clothing, in his signature red black and gold, but more decked out than average in order to display the wealth and status of the family he represents. There's also some western influence to the fashions due to trade and culture sharing. He absolutely takes any excuse to dress fancy because Jamil is not immune to wanting nice things.
-The pirates have clothing accumulated from all over the world, which they mix and match depending on preference. Azul accumulates ridiculous amounts of wealth, and the crew ends up with a lot of extra spending money, so taste and practicality are the only limits. Of which Azul has none.
-Floyd mismatches whatever he likes the look of and finds comfortable. So mostly loose fitting stuff in fun colors, and items he finds impressively well crafted. I just kinda wrote out what he'd probably wear piece by piece and it turned into just, classic Pirate™ aesthetic, but I'm just gonna roll with that. You cannot convince me that, without an enforced dresscode, he and Jade would dress remotely alike.
-Azul goes for wealthy high fashion styles from influential western countries (inspired mainly by french, spanish, and italian fashions), because those give the impression of high status. Basically the era equivalent of a three piece suit with fedora and cummerbund. He's very much in peacock mode in this chapter, and went all out with the fancy. I'm kinda basing the look on his masquerade costume, but with some adjustments for the era, like the cavalier hat instead of a tricorn and a more typical cut of overcoat.
-Jade likes to look quiet and reserved just to fuck with people, kinda following along with whatever fashion kicks Azul goes on. He intentionally stays in Azul's shadow the way an ambush predator stays in a hole in the rocks.
-Jamil having an english last name didn't make sense in context, so I gave him the nearest arabic translation of Viper. Khabith is a more vague concept that implies evil/malicious/venomous/underhanded/etc., and is used as a term for venomous snakes as well. There isn't a more specific word for viper that I know of, besides clarifying "'afea khabith", but the implications of Khabith play into the plot I have in mind. Also I just enjoy how it combines with the name Jamil (beautiful) to mean something like "dangerously beautiful", very fem fatale vibes.
Side characters:
-Idk why with the cousins, it just popped into my head and I went with it. It's fun to explore possible family dynamics with Jamil. Their names mean Wisdom (Hakim), and Bravery (Jasur), because I felt like keeping to the theme of descriptive names.
-I love the idea of a monster pirate crew, and I love coming up with Creatures, especially nonhuman people. So I'm just having a great time making shit up for Azul's crew. The harpy is my favorite. She's not a reference to anything twst related, I just wanted to write about a harpy. I'm obsessed with this side character. I'm also excited to eventually talk more about the Very Ugly Man because there is a backstory to him and it cracks me up a lot.
-I really enjoyed making Azul this punchable. I actually really like enemies to lovers as a trope, but have never gotten around to writing it until now, even in original works for some reason. This is still pretty one sided as far as enemies go, because it's still Azul after all, but I'm having a great time and I hope I can pull it off well
-Idk what else to say here, I'm just really excited about this story. I wanted to let these bastard fish be awful creeps, I wanted to do an enemies to lovers thing, I wanna write about the ocean, I'm having fun, and I hope everyone else can enjoy this as much as I do
