Printing the blue on the second day of the printing schedule. Here we have the recently posted text block of 14 pt Franklin Gothic Italic typography poetry, if that’s a thing. It’s embarrassing that I’ve had this press for nearly 30 years and this is the first time I have experimented with a color blend or fade across the rollers. Let’s just say it worked. Really well. As in the only surprise was that the results are more beautiful than I had imagined they would be.

"Fair Weather at North Range Light"
Getting a bit of my Edward Hopper on this week. I completed this full-color 16"x 20" acrylic painting of the Bailey Harbor North Range Light in Door County using a limited color palette of just alizarin crimson, ultramarine, lemon yellow, and manganese blue believe it or not. The digital painting of the main lighthouse from 2019 is so different. Traditional paint just has more soul.

MYAAP SHARES NEW EP YOP! PROD. BY NEDARB
Tumblr media
Myaap, the energetic 18-year-old artist at the forefront of Milwaukee’s burgeoning rap scene, has just shared her new YOP! EP along with a video for "MLK". Following up her recent stint as an opener on the second leg of Veeze’sGanger Tour, YOP! is produced entirely by the prolific Goth Money tastemaker Nedarb. Making his name by providing beats for artists like Black Kray, Lil Peep and $uicideboy$, Myaap's link-up with Nedarb marks a fusion of two worlds.
Tumblr media
Lacing the beats across the 6-track EP with an undeniable Milwaukee bounce, YOP! is a testament to both Myaap's diversity and ever-growing hunger – serving as a fitting follow-up to her recently-released EP BIG MYAAP, NOT THE LIL ONE. Although Milwaukee's rap scene has existed for decades, it has long been an unsung hero in the eyes of the mainstream — existing in the cultural shadow of much larger metropolitan areas, it's at the crossroads of America: Southern in influence, Eastern in sentiment, and undeniably West Coast in its carefree attitude. Still just a teenager, Myaap stands at the cutting edge of her city's cultural moment as the woman leading the charge, backed by her viral ABBA-sampling phenomenon “Getting to It”, as well as other party-ready tracks like “Wham'' and “Party Crackin" (3M+ Streams). Lending herself to the foray of TikTok virality and genre-defying bounce, Myaap's fiery energy and captivating wordplay are seeing her level up amongst the Milwaukee ranks as she continues to grow her reach with each release.
youtube
Following her recently-released track "Actin Up" (feat. Chicken P), a Soulja Boy-sampling, club-ready anthem, and YOP! lead single "Rotation", Myaap's latest project is defined by high-energy, charismatic bar work over booming basslines and insistent clap rhythms courtesy of Nedarb. Continuing to infuse her regional scene with danceable raps and a contagious upbeat energy, Myaap is on a steady ascent – she's slated to perform at MIKE's upcoming Young World Festival, in a lineup alongside Earl Sweatshirt. Despite releasing her first track only a year ago, Myaap has quickly garnered a cult-like following, accumulating over 6 Million streams for the bass-heavy sound that’s become synonymous with her name — blending Southern bounce with the distinct contemporary styles coming out of Chicago and Detroit's street rap scenes.

Old Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, 1900
Wisconsin architect and printmaker Charles Clark Reynolds (1893-1969) produced this etching of the Door County port city of Sturgeon Bay for the Federal Art Project of the WPA in 1941. Reynolds, who was born in Sturgeon Bay, ran a successful architectural firm with offices in Manitowoc and Green Bay, Wisconsin from 1920-1934. Andrew Stevens, curator emeritus of prints, drawings and photographs at the Chazen Museum of Art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, made these observations about another copy of the print at the Wisconsin Historical Society in his 1998 exhibition catalog, 150 Years of Wisconsin Printmaking:
The print's title and the notation on the plate that identifies the image as being "Sturgeon Bay 1900" suggest a nostalgic purpose for the work. Instead of presenting the city as it was when the print was made in 1941, he looked back forty years, perhaps by reference to photography, to present if at the turn of the century [as Reynolds himself would have known it as a boy]. As if to reference further the retrospective stance of the work, there is a pencil notation in the print's margin that identifies it as having been printed on antique paper. This retrospective aspect of the work . . . may also reflect some of the historical goals of other projects of the WPA.
Our copy of the print is part of a portfolio of prints from the Wisconsin WPA, and this image is from a digitized version of that print from our digital collection Wisconsin Arts Projects of the WPA, which was made possible with generous financial support from The Chipstone Foundation.

Clockwise from top left: sardines, organic kimchee, and avocado dip with organic Triscuit-style crackers; organic cottage cheese, peanut butter, and banana mush; freshly ground peanut butter and Co-Jack cheese on pretzel thins. Milwaukee's Rap Ambassador, Chicken P, Prepares For New Tape with "Ain't Runnin Out"
Tumblr media
Over the past few years, the city of Milwaukee has developed one of the most diverse and exciting rap scenes in the country, and rising rapper Chicken P has been at the center of the action. While many rappers in the city have grabbed attention with danceable and memeable party anthems, Chicken P has built a large and devoted fanbase by staying true to himself and rapping his ass off.
The Really Rich Empire CEO demonstrates the skills that has him on top of his city's rap game on "Ain't Runnin' Out," his new single and music video. Over a beat by ProdbyKaio and OnlyOneG, which mixes booming, distorted midwest drums with the chaotic handclaps that define the Milwaukee sound, the rapper works a flow that oscillates between soft-spoken melody and hard-charging bite. The unflappable rhymer stacks flex after flex, expressing gratitude that he'll never return to the trenches he emerged from: "I'm really havin', I don't keep track of where I'm spendin'/Tell the ref, throw the towel, these n****s finished/I done run this pape up, ain't runnin' out," he lilts. In the video, Chicken P luxuriates in his Rolls Royce convertible, as he flashes his ice and contemplates his next move.
youtube
"Ain't Runnin' Out" is the next step on the road to Chicken P's next mixtape, The Hardest N**** Living, arriving in the coming weeks via Really Rich Empire / 10K Projects. Home to the recent single "Shark," the upcoming mixtape is a well-structured argument that supports the tape's title, detailing the big and little things that make Chicken P one of the most respected rappers in the Midwest and beyond. The Hardest N**** Living is the proper follow-up to BussaBrick Vol. 3: ReallyRich4Eva and its accompanying deluxe, both of which placed in the Top 30 of Apple Music's Hip-Hop Albums Chart (and in the Top 100 All-Genres Album Chart). Released in January, the Deluxe edition is home to "Venting," which is gaining traction on short-form video platforms like TikTok and IG Reels (6.5k creations to date), and has racked up over 1.8 million views on its official music video.
First emerging in the late 2010s, the rapper then known as Lil Chicken made waves in Milwaukee with his raw, bass-boosted sound. Aided by video director TeeGlazedIt, one of the Milwaukee scene's most respected tastemakers, Chicken P helped solidify the city's reputation as a hip-hop hotbed, and established himself as its leading voice, with songs like 2021's "Money Counter" (3.7 million views). The rapper found his stride with his three-volume BussaBrick series of mixtapes, home to fan-favorite singles like "Dawg Ass Chicken" (2.3 million views), "Rollin" (2.5 million views), and "Peoples' Favorite" (1.8 million views on the visualizer). Six months after finishing a short stint in prison, Chicken P is drawing eyes from across the spectrum, racking up over 3 million streams on his catalog per week and earning co-signs from fellow rappers like Sexyy Red, Babyface Ray, Skilla Baby, Rylo Rodriguez, and Veeze, plus basketball players including  Jalen Green and Rob Dillingham.
