TV: Rickie Vasquez
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

🎙[new podcast] Forward Flash Episode 016: Michael, I’m not addicted to drugs. I’m addicted to glamour. | Party Monster (2003) 🍩 [link in bio] Money. Success. Fame. Glamour.  We're back in the NY club scene about a decade later with the Party Monster story. While we mostly stay on the film track we get detailed about the many documentaries about the true story that more than inspired this tale. There are so many fashion standouts that could be it's own episode. The portrayal of Michael Alig and James St. James by Macaulay Culkin and Seth Green deserves all the awards. Me, @charleshaslam, and @agentmikey007 talk this INSANE story, the uncomfortable accuracies, and question just how the fuck this all happened. Off-topic rants include: TV shows we're obsessing on, newish Brokeback Mountain news, and tales about Mikey's dog Boss. "Now it's all about photo placement. So if you're in a group of three always, always, always make sure that you're the one standing on the right because that way when they print the picture you'll be the one on the left. The caption will read "James St. James and bla bla bla" were seen, okay?" #podcast #partymonster #macaulayculkin #sethgreen #chloesevigny #natashalyonne #nyc #clubkids #truecrime #wilsoncruz #disco2000 https://www.instagram.com/p/CXraYu5Ovid/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Red Angel Reveals The Path For Star Trek Discovery
Tumblr media
Well, that’s one way to solve a mystery.  ‘The Red Angel’ steps up and answers the question that has been plaguing us all season long.  It also stops to introduce a few new questions because, well, if we didn’t have things to speculate about we might stop watching.  We are also reminded of just how tight the Discovery crew is, with some possible indications that we might finally see the crew as they were at the very beginning of the season.  Less a few Enterprise crew members, but all the better for it.
Let’s begin with the final departure of Airiam.  Not really wanting to make light of a funeral I won’t spend a lot of time on this issue, but I have mixed feelings about this entire scene.  Last weeks episode provided a powerful, emotional goodbye to a character that we’d only barely gotten to know.  Part of that not knowing is what made her exit so affecting.  To this week then spend a good chunk of the episode having various cast members give all the reasons why they will miss her takes away a bit from the place we were left.  I’m almost surprised we didn’t get Admiral Cornwall’s reminiscing on her non-existent time with Airiam thrown in.  Ok, maybe I’m being a little harsh, but I would have liked to see the funeral scene maybe be a bit more subdued, keeping in line with the fact that we’d just mourned a character we hardly knew.
Relationships from last season that have definitely been put to the test last season also finally get a little revisit this episode.  The direction that Stamets and Culber are taking can be a little heartbreaking, especially considering the initial excitement that the show had unburied it’s gay.  It does seem that eventually, we’ll get these two back together, but you can’t help but want to push that along.   I’m not as convinced by Burnham and Tyler though.  Something is feeling a little rushed by Burnham accepting him back.  Yes, yes, she was on the verge of voluntarily dying, but this is also the man who trusts an agency that is responsible for her entire life.  He also chose a life in the Klingon Empire with his ex Klingon lover over her last season.  Maybe just a tiny bit more hesitation would be appropriate?
Speaking of Michael’s entire life (here come the spoileriest spoilers, if you want to stop now), the revelation of the identity of the red angel was...unexpected.  I suppose the hints have been there all season.  We’ve been given a lot of pause to stop and think about who Michael’s real parents were so in a way the revelation should have been somewhat easy to pick out before now.  I wonder how this ties to Michael’s past exactly though.  At what point in Michael’s timeline is her mother traveling from?  I suppose this could be the ‘fix’ to the continuity the producers have been promising and we’ll get a third ‘Star Trek’ timeline out of this.  The original, the Kelvin timeline from the later movies, and now the Michael timeline.  That wouldn’t explain Spock never mentioning a sister though since it appears the divergence would start after the introduction of Michael.  Still, time travel.  It can be best not to over explain it.
And does anyone really think Leland is dead?

Supernova (2000)
Tumblr media
Supernova has liquefied my brain. I want to tell you how much I dislike this movie but it's so bland and generic the words are struggling to come out. It’s a watered-down version of a watered-down version of a watered-down version of Alien. If you thought Pandorum and Event Horizon were derivative of the Ridley Scott sci-fi classic, you’d be right, but at least those had a few elements that made them distinct. Supernova is not interesting or creative in any way whatsoever.
The crew of the Nightingale 229 are responding to a distress signal. Captain A.J. Marley (Robert Forster), co-pilot Nick (James Spader), medical officer Kaela (Angela Bassett), medical technician Yerzy (Lou Diamond Phillips), paramedic Danika (Robin Tunney), and technician Benjamin (Wilson Cruz) save the man who called for help (Peter Facinelli) but become stranded thanks to a teleportation malfunction.
From there, the plot is simultaneously complex and stupidly simple. The man - who has mysterious ties to Kaela - possesses a strange alien artifact that may or may not spell doomsday for mankind.
Everything about Supernova is boring. As soon as the action kicks in, you know what the twist will be, you know way ahead of time what the deal is with the guy being rescued. It’s almost insulting it’s so bland.
Under any scrutiny, this picture falls apart and there’s so little about it that’s stimulating you can’t help but ask questions. If the Nightingale 229 is a rescue vessel, why does it only have 8 pods to shield humans from the harmful effects of the teleportation process? What if they came upon a ship with like 200 people? Would the six crewmembers make a hundred trips back and forth? Who programmed the ship’s computer with a sassy attitude? Why would the aliens leave the powerful artifact where it is if it can indeed do what we're told it can? Why do the crewmembers play with round playing cards? Wouldn’t they be a lot more expensive and cumbersome to play with?
Every character is flat, and their relationships don’t mean a thing. It's no wonder any of the talented actors try to make them lively or engaging. Over and over, the crew of the Nightingale 229 make idiot decision that robs the story of all possible tension. If at least the picture delivered some cool gore once the madness really kicked off you could get some sort of enjoyment, but no. There’s one cool death but early in the film, and honestly, even that one you’ve seen done better else - in a movie far less obscure than this one.
Supernova lasts a mere 90 minutes. It feels like an eternity. With the depths of absurdity it sinks to, you'd think it might be fun to tear apart, but it isn’t. I don’t even know how I convinced myself that it could be - the only reason I've seen the movie twice now. Supernova is dumb through and through but it’s not even bad in an original way. I suppose if you want to see Angela Basset in the nude for a few fractions of a second you might be able to pry your eyes awake long enough to make it all the way to the end, but there’s no way anyone will be satisfied with this.
The most fun you'll have with Supernova will be speculating about how it came to be. Director Walter Hill is credited as Thomas Lee, and he's only one of the three people who were at the helm at various points. If you look deep through trailers and the various special features available, you could edit Supernova into a wholly different movie. It stinks of a project that was fed through the executive machine so many times it lost all sense of what it was supposed to be. I bet you the actors requested the credits be in that reverse order where all the technical people are listed first so that way everyone would leave the theatre before they could memorize who was responsible for this waste of time. Too bad for them IMDB will never let them forget the sins of their past. (On VHS, November 20, 2016)

TV: Evan Martinez
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Here is my finished Hugh ! I’m so happy with this one ! I tried something new here with new Poscas. Usually I add white posca at the end for a glittering effect, but here I really wanted a starry look everywhere for this so charming doctor, and I used pastel colored Poscas. And first this was so fun, and second the result is exactly what I wanted . 👉 If you swipe , this is just me being mesmerized by the effect of a changing color light bulb on my drawing 😁. I think it’s really fun how the colors seem to metamorphose with this light.✨🌈 . . . . @wcruz73 @startreknetflix #startrek #wilsoncruz #hughculber #paulstamets #startrekkers #startrekdiscovery #michaelburnham #startrekart #startrekuniverse #startrekfanart #startrekfan #starfleet #trekkie #sciencefictionart #sciencefictionartwork #startrekdiscoveryfanart #startrek💫 #galaxyart #galaxyartwork #rainbowart #rainbowdrawing #rainbowartwork #rainbowaesthetic #rainbowartist #rainbowcolors (at Paris, France) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVQnZ-gojH_/?utm_medium=tumblr

🚨[Patreon exclusive] My So Called Life Episode 008: Squeeze my hand as hard as it hurts. ~ Strangers in the House (1994) 🩺 [link in bio] This was a weird episode. There are so many things going on here. Sharon's dad has a heart attack which leads Daddy Graham to question his own mortality.  While all this is going on Sharon just wants to BE WITH HER BEST FRIEND and Angela just doesn't get it or even seem to care?
