It will never not be wild to me how Tumblr excuses a cow blog that keeps their animals in feedlot conditions without hoof care, yet has a shit fit about licensed, screened sanctuaries.

From the “Real Scientists” AU, in which the Fenton parents finally accept that ghosts aren’t evil - because they come to the incorrect conclusion that they’re not sapient.* This becomes a major problem when they capture Phantom and attempt to train him, like an animal.
They keep him in the lab, use modern wildlife handling techniques (restraints, blindfolds, acclimation, reinforcement training, etc), and if it were, in fact, an animal ghost, they would be doing a great job.
But it’s not.
*This partially stems from ghosts being more animalistic in appearance than canon, as well as only being able to speak ghost speak.

AU credit to @lemon-snake and @fan-stuff-and-things

There were footsteps on the stairs.
Danny perked up, listened.
Vlad? No, he never bothered to walk when he "visited".
His parents? It was true that time had lost nearly all meaning since the blindfold had been introduced, but it didn't feel like morning, and it didn't sound like either of them.
Whoever it was reached the bottom of the stairs and started crossing the lab toward his cage, and he backed up the few feet it took to get his back against the far wall.
God, he wished he could see.
"Danny?" Jazz whispered, and he almost started crying. He crossed the cage to join her, and when she put a hand on his head, he didn't even try to stop himself from nuzzling up into it.
"Oh my god, are you- Well, I know you're not okay, but- How are you, little brother?"
He purred, leaning up against the bars. Better now.
"I can only stay for a little while," she told him, and then, "Here, turn around."
He didn't know exactly what she was going to do, but he trusted her, so he stayed still as she worked behind him, taking off his blindfold, his muzzle. "I'm going to have to put these back before I leave," she reluctantly informed him, in the dim lights of the emergency exit sign and the portal indicator, and he grumbled, a quiet acknowledgment. She unclipped his cuffs, and when he finally stretched, it felt so good that a few tears did slip out of his eyes, free to roll down his face for the first time in so long.
And then he reached through the bars and pulled her closer, until he could wrap his arms around her, and she hugged him back, chest to bars to chest, until she finally pulled away and sat on the floor in front of him, prompting him to do the same.
For a while, they stayed like that, side by side, hand in hand. She told him about school, about how Sam and Tucker were doing, showed him a video of a meteor shower they'd had recently, promised him that they'd watch the next one together.
"Oh! Before I forget. A gift for you, from Tucker and Sam."
She started pulling something out of her pocket, and his mind immediately went to nail files baked into prison cakes. But no, what she pulled out was a folded piece of paper, tiny marker dots bleeding through the back.
He craned his neck to get a better view, but she was intentionally keeping it's backside to him as she pulled out a roll of tape and affixed a piece to it, as if teasing him. As if trying to give him something to look forward to, even if only for a few seconds.
Finally, she turned the paper around, and in Sam's chunky handwriting, it read,
GAY BABY JAIL <3
Jazz stuck the paper to one of the bars, and Danny laughed for the first time in far too long.

this might as well be a rite of passage for me to do this to characters in fandoms i enjoy at this point. anyway
call of duty mw reboot age regression headcanons about the guys i think regress (see tags for list)
➤ what is age regression?
ghost:
— very quiet and sleepy... honestly doesn't even notice anything is different other than the fact he's just more tired, and wishes he could stay in bed all day. if price ever catches him being so tired, he orders him to go eat and then go back to bed. ghost does not complain.
— never realizes he's regressing. it's a subconscious coping mechanism for him, that makes him tune out the violence and gore and disheartening stuff of his day-to-day life, and leaves him with nice memories of seeing the task force interact with each other or cool wildlife he saw that day or nice interactions he had.
— semi-verbal. words are hard. he doesn't like talking. he will if he has to, but that doesn't mean he likes it. minimal responses, prefers nonverbal communication. utilizes sign and morse code frequently.
— has to physically tense himself up to avoid melting into any physical touch he's given. but when it's private, and with someone he cares about and/or trusts, he just melts into them and turns into a very happy pile of sleepy-cozy goo.
— definitely feels the safest around price.
soap:
— BRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBRBBR
— ^ soap
— a man's gotta go nyoom!! yknow!!! very very energy suppressed down until he's vibrating around with the urge to go absolutely Crazy
— loves reading and drawing. will waste the whole day away reading five books and filling up seven pages in his journal/sketchbook front and back with sketches and doodles if you let him. needs to keep his hands busy NO MATTER WHAT
— honestly hyperverbal? loves chatting and talking, hums or sings along to music. also very physically affectionate and often ends up cuddling with gaz or being touchy with him since gaz enjoys the contact and does it right back!
— needs company so so so bad. if he can't cuddle up to gaz, he's lurking around ghost, helping price with mission reports and paperwork filing, doing weapons maintenance with alex or alejandro, you name it. this man can't stand being left alone. another presence calms him down.
— absolutely NEEDS to hold something to sleep when he regresses. can't if he doesn't. somebody or something, doesn't matter. has to cuddle something in order to get to sleep.
alex/echo 3-1:
— puppy regressor. /srs
— a little snuffly. much more impulsive, and energetic. suddenly gains a HUGE love for crunchy textures and foods, though he can't explain why. doesn't know what it is or why it happens, so he just. masks this and pretends its fine
— loves holding farah close to him. there's no real reason for it, but the proximity and the fact he can hide his face against her shoulder makes him happy and causes him to feel very very safe.
— can't stand sitting still. needs to do something to keep him busy, be that reading a book, weapons maintenance, fidgeting with his facial hair or scarf, jangling his dog tags, whatever. he needs to be doing SOMETHING
— absolutely melts and probably will doze off within a matter of minutes if someone pets his hair. leans into it heavily, does a happy little wiggle whenever someone scratches his scalp gently. has no idea this happens.
— feels safest in small groups, but once joined in on a cuddle pile while regressed and slept better than he had in months.
könig:
— look at it. it's got anxiety! /ref
— poor sweet thing. very shy, very anxious. sticks close to whoever will let him, ultimately giving the impression of them having a giant, intimidating looking shadow, even though he's just sticking close because he's too nervous to separate from them.
— gets overwhelmed easier and needs to leave stressful situations. has to trigger himself to dissociate in order to make it through drills. loves greasework though. give this man an empty base to clean and he'll have it done by tomorrow morning, happier than anything. also enjoys maintenance weapons and sorting/organizing while regressed.
— thrives on friendly words. compliments and warm greetings make him so happy, he wants to shriek every time it happens, but refrains and just returns it as best as he can with a huge smile across his face, hidden by his mask.
— once took off his mask to breathe easier through a panic attack. ended up regressing insanely hard because soap was there and started rubbing his head to calm him down. regressed in a heartbeat and melted into his arms. soap thinks on that day fondly and könig has been friendlier with soap ever since then.
— echolalia stimming. had a whole conversation with gaz in the form of mimicking cat meows back and forth once.

Hey! I love your OCs! I had a question: How does your captain handle the board at the end of the game? How would your captain react to discovering the 12 colonists phineas failed to revive prior and if it was somone they knew?
Oooh this is a really good question!
Regarding the Board: Tobias is...well...really against them. He has a strong sense of ethics and equality and...can't stand the way the Board operates. All the inequality and poor management they created are clearly visible in every part of the colony he visits, and it's really getting on his nerves. He's never done anything for the Board (except for...killing Graham so Zora could take over and *checks notes* for some reason you get positive rep for giving Clarence his eye back??? anyway back to the topic) and even thinking about helping them in any way makes him feel bad.
Also, if we won't talk only from canon event point of view, I personally have planned out his story in a way that his relationship gets so bad that after stealing the dimethyl sulfoxide from the lab and telling Akande to fuck off during the call he, well, ends up on the Board's wanted list (preferably alive, kill on sight only after he skipped the Hope to Terra 2 </3). This creates some interesting situations afterwards bc he, well, really needed some time to think about it when they started talking about skipping the Hope, and went to "think" while doing things on Gorgon & Eridanos.
Anyway, in the end, what happens is both Rockwell & Akande are killed on Tartarus (imo he can have a little murder. as a treat), and the Board is destroyed. He's a democracy kind of guy + minister Clarke is happy to finally get a chance to fix Halcyon.
Now, what about his opinion about Phineas & the 12 colonists... I'll put this under the cut bc otherwise this answer will be Too Long ehehe
also tw for unethical science tests mention / animal testing mention / human testing mention along w/ other stuff related to tow canon regarding this topic (no gore mention though)
SO. First let's talk about my thoughts on how I see the colonist thing went: Phineas tried to revive these twelve people, in my opinion + based on the limited info the game gives u, over the course of these 35 years. Phin himself finds out Hope arrived in the end after 35 years, and probably somehow gets there as soon as possible. Searching for suitable formula is hard, and I doubt he would keep so many different chemicals on his ship to try out all his ideas right away. And of course, there's also the fact that formulating even the first formula might take years + I also doubt that he started testing it out on the colonists right away and first started using some local wildlife. At the same year the Board finds out what he's doing and makes him a wanted man, but of course stays in the shadows to watch him closely. And also maybe he just has pure luck. Who knows.
I think after a while he's been doing animal testing, he switches to the colonists, mayhaps because of impatience or hope (pun intended) that it will work out. It doesn't & the Board finds out. He probably barely gets away and isolates himself in his secret lab. Oh well there are still the cystypigs. That's what he concentrates on for the rest of those years before 2355.
ANYWAY. It takes him 35 years to perfect the formula. He's gone through lots of local wildlife and has already lost twelve colonists. Insert a joke about number thirteen here. He's afraid it will all end in the same way as with the other twelve colonists (haunted by their screams. it was. So Uncomfortable to read those files sjdbbffb), and also because it's his last chance, and also probably because the Board is guarding the Hope even more now. But it's still his last hope. So he goes there and steals one of the colonists and barely escapes to his lab. And after his hard work, he finally succeeds (go grandpa!).
Now before we actually dive into the topic, I also want to mention Tobias's background. He's a scientist, a biochemist to be precise. He knows what science is like, and that there can be awful results when you test out something new. At the same time, he's also someone who is highly against anything that isn't ethically right (from his point of view). He found out that his old job back on Earth has done some unethical testing and brought it up to the manager, who instead fired him. That didn't stop Tobias, as he actually managed to get some evidence and whistleblowed the company. Which didn't really end up well for him bc one of his ex-coworkers shot him while trying to make him give the evidence back. This guy is too justice-oriented for his own good.
NOW back to the topic. Finally. I talk too much fr. This is what I call the social scientist who has written too many essays brainrot.
Anyway. Now, they finally go to the Hope. Skipping it is not the only reason he finally went there. After seeing all that's happened on Gorgon (and also Eridanos tbh) he really wants to know, what exactly went wrong with the Hope. And that's where the terminals come into the picture. He reads all the files he can find and does he learn a lot about the ship and its crew. But another thing he finds are Phineas's audio logs.
He's shocked. Confused. A bit disgusted, even. But not surprised. The old scientist was hiding something, and there's no way someone would be this obsessed with one ship if he also didn't have a strong feeling driving him to the goal. Toby doubted it was because Phin has some relatives on the ship, or that all he can think about is saving the colony. Guilt seemed like a possible reason, but what was Phineas guilty of? Now he knew.
He put all the thoughts related to this on the background and focused on finding more info about the Hope, and of course on skipping the Hope. He'll have enough time to confront Phineas later once they arrive back to Terra 2's orbit.
Except he doesn't bc the Board captures Phin while they're on the Hope. They come to his lab and are "greeted" by the UDL troops. Once the situation is solved, they look for signs of where Phineas was taken. And that's when he finds another files regarding the test subjects, and how it has affected Phineas. Also, along with that, he also finds the data pad that's near the hibernation chamber and hibernation helmet.
Once they return to the ship and have a conversation about what to do next, they decided to prepare for a few days before going to Tartarus. Maybe to get more ready for what could happen there, or to learn more about Tartarus. Everyone gets some kind of a task.
But that's not the only thing our poor captain thinks about. He thinks about these twelve colonists, and about Phineas. He knows that it was wrong to start human trials so soon when Phineas didn't have a proper result on any other animal yet. But does Halcyon teach its scientists anything about science ethics, anyway? For all he knows, this all sounded more humane than some of the other research places he visited in the colony (*cough* looking at you Gorgon *cough*).
And while he did wrong, he has clearly paid for it already.
So, they finally get on Tartarus, and manage to get in quite peacefully thanks to a dumb guard who sent his ID. And after the whole thing they finally save Phineas.
After the talk about what happened and how there's no contact with Earth, it's the first topic Tobias brings up. Phineas explains what he's done and why, and how the Hope's colonists are the only ones who can actually forgive him for what he did.
And that's what Tobias does.

scrolling through my fic document reminded me that my "a horrible goose was rezzed by a ghost" wip was pretty good! I'd like to get back to it some day
Zavala inspects Odile’s new Guardian, who inspects him right back. “This,” Commander Zavala says, “is a very poor joke.”
She disagrees. This would be an amazing joke, if it was one. She plans to use it for the setup of a bunch of them now – “So a Hunter, a Ghost and a goose walk into a bar” – but! That’s not the point!
“That’s because it isn’t one,” she says, trying not to look down at her Guardian. People take eye contact seriously, which is a little unfair when all you have is one big optic.
Zavala pauses, softens. She’d appreciate it if she wasn’t being serious. “I understand that it is Ghosts who have the bleakest duty out of all of us. No one in the Tower underestimates the lengths you go to for all our sakes. But the fact remains that this kind of stunt is unacceptable. Passing off wildlife as a Lightbearer? Surely you know better.”
“It’s not a stunt! It just happened!” she says, shell flaring outward. Zavala’s frown deepens, but Targe bails her out unexpectedly, swooping down for a quick scan.
“It is a Guardian. Somehow. The Light patterns are odd.”
“Understandably, since this is a bird.” The look he turns on her is worse than the stern frown, somehow.  “How did this happen, exactly?”
“It just did,” she insists. “I felt that this had to be the one and then – bam!”
“But,” he says heavily. “This is a goose.”
“One set of bones looks like every other, especially stuck in a dried up lake. And – and the Light caught, so it had to be right.”
“Nevertheless,” Zavala says.
“I didn’t do anything wrong!”
Her Guardian steps closer, bored with a conversation happening literally over their head.
“You’re saying you can communicate?”
“Picking up on biorhythms is simple enough! And I’ve downloaded every file on avian body language I could find.
“Geese,” she says with as much dignity as she can muster, “guarded Rome. Thousands of years ago! There’s a precedent.”
Zavala sighs, but she knows she’s got him.

Dear Sephiroth: (a letter to a fictional character, because why not) #84
Today, J, Br, and I went to the library for a work date. Br had homework, J had his remote work, and I was cutting wires to weave new trees while listening to that playlist that I spoke on recently.
I cut A LOT of wire for trees; at least 7 trees worth. I'll show you:
Tumblr media
Although I already had a few coils of wire, I decided to spend the time cutting more. Truth be told, I don't really like working with the gold or silver wire; it's stiffer, harder to twist, and more brittle than other kinds of wire of the same gauge, for whatever reason. Sharper, too; trying to move some of the gold coils around, I ended up poking my fingers enough to draw a little bit of blood, which is really no big deal, but it's still kind of annoying.
Each coil of wire has 27 strands, the length of each being approximately the distance between the tip of my left index finger to the bend of my left elbow. There are so many strands because it takes three strands to weave a branch, three branches to weave a section of a tree, and three sections to make a whole tree.
I got really into the groove of it, though, and before I knew it, 4 hours passed and it felt only like 20 minutes; I really dropped the ball on my hydration game today because of it. I'm sorry about that; I can't exactly implore you to take good care of yourself if I'm not being attentive to the maintenance of my own body, right? So I'll do better tomorrow.
Oh right - speaking of pokey things, though I got the first dose of an HPV vaccine yesterday, and to my surprise, I feel pretty much unaffected by it today. I had heard that this one can sometimes knock people on their ass, and I'm glad that my DNA seems to be such that this isn't the case. Or maybe it's just that this one isn't as bad as I had heard. Either way, I'm not sad about the fact that I don't feel like hot garbage today! Gotta appreciate the little things, right?
After we did a decent amount of work, J, Br, and I left the library to take a walk in its general vicinity. It was almost 60 degrees F in my area today (or 15.5 degrees C if metric is your thing); the walk was lovely. But my brain was still "extended-tendrils-esque" from cutting wire for such a long time, so I was quiet (but not in bad spirits!) for most of it; I'm glad that I get to spend time in the company of folks who don't mind when I'm not animated. The fact that I don't have to mask my autistic traits with Br and J takes a lot of the pressure off of existing in general.
Oh, um! Maybe you don't know what Tendril Theory is. Here's something that can explain it; I didn't make this:
Tumblr media
I wished you could come on the walk with us. I passed some interesting-looking houses that I didn't take pictures of, because it seems maybe a little rude to take a picture of a specific person's house without their permission. But one of the houses had a lot of bits and baubles hanging from their trees and shrubs and trellises; it was a marvelous sight to witness. I think my favorite decoration was the glass grapes hanging from a cute-looking trellis. I wish you could have seen them; they were VERY sparkly. I wonder if you would have liked to look at them, too.
We have since returned home, and M continues to go through the second portion of your story. He's finishing up the quests around Cosmo Canyon. It's a beautiful area, and it's wonderful to get a glimpse of the architecture and the handicrafts and the local flora and fauna. I love that there are descriptions of the wild creatures (it makes me sad to hear them be called "fiends") and their dispositions, diets, life cycles, and whatever else. It's like reading through one of those old Wildlife Fact File binders - we had one of these things when I was a little girl; if you've been reading my letters, I imagine you won't be surprised to learn that this was one of my favorite things to read when I was young, haha!
Oh. Right. You… probably have no idea what that looks like. Here:
Tumblr media
They're super thick binders filled with folding pages all about some of the animals in my world:
Tumblr media
I kinda wish I could send along one of these to you, somehow. I know from watching M wander around that your world has a lot of the same animals that mine does, but we don't have things like chocobos or dragons or cockatrices or basilisks, so I wonder if there are animals in my world that you don't have.
Oh! You know. It occurs to me that you don't have horses in your world. I think maybe you might like horses, so maybe sometime I'll write to you about them. But not today, because I'm tired. Though you can probably tell I'm tired, since I'm rambling. Haha...
Hey, Sephiroth? I wonder if you have a favorite animal. I know you can't tell me what it is (because obviously), but still I'll ask. I'll ask because everyone deserves to have someone care enough about them to ask what their favorite animal is. As for me… it's kind of a toss-up between orcas and barn owls. If you don't have those, maybe I'll tell you about those, too, in some other letter.
Please stay safe out there in the meantime. There are lots of people in my world who are counting on you to turn yourself around and come back in one piece, so try really hard, okay? I'll be cheering for your healing and recovery, because these things are possible, no matter how far we fall down.
I'll write again soon.
Your friend, Lumine

Conservation groups have filed an appeal asking Gov. Jay Inslee to order the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission to draft enforceable rules that limit when the state can kill endangered wolves for conflicts with livestock.
The appeal, filed late Monday, seeks a reversal of the commission’s Oct. 28 denial of the groups’ formal petition for enforceable livestock-wolf conflict rules.
“The governor has already directed state wildlife managers to reduce wolf killing in response to livestock conflicts, but stronger action is clearly needed,” said Amaroq Weiss, senior wolf advocate at the Center for Biological Diversity. “Despite Gov. Inslee’s clear orders, the state is killing more wolves than ever. With no rules in place to make wolf-killing a last resort, we expect things will get even worse.”
Since 2012, 53 state-endangered wolves have been killed in Washington for actual or claimed conflicts. Of those killed, 75% have been killed by the state on behalf of the same livestock-owning family, which fails to take adequate steps to protect its cattle. And 75% of those wolves killed have been shot for conflicts that occurred on public lands. Sixteen of the wolves, or nearly one-third of all those killed, were shot in just the past three years.
In 2019 Gov. Inslee asked that wolf managers “significantly reduce the need for lethal removal of this species.” In 2020 Gov. Inslee again directed state wildlife managers to amend their rules when he granted an appeal filed by wildlife conservationists.
Because the commission still has not adopted rules, wildlife groups filed a new wolf rulemaking petition in September. This week’s appeal seeks a reversal of the commission’s October denial of that rulemaking petition.
The groups proposed amending an existing rule to provide clarity to the agency, livestock operators and the public. Requested amendments would:
-Require livestock operators to use appropriate nonlethal methods to prevent conflict between livestock and wolves before the agency could consider killing wolves.
-Require the agency to develop mitigation plans for areas of chronic conflict.
-Establish standards for what constitutes effective range riding to best protect livestock.
-Prohibit killing of wolves on public lands or for conflicts that occur on public lands.
-Set basic limits on the number of wolves that could be killed and length of time a kill order could remain open.
Additional requested amendments would restore the “caught in the act of attacking” provision to its original form as it existed in the 2011 state wolf plan. Under the expanded version adopted in 2013, in more than two-thirds of the incidents the evidence has shown wolves were not in fact attacking when they were shot and killed.
“The commission has missed multiple opportunities over the past decade to adopt rules to reduce wolf killing and lessen livestock losses,” said Weiss. “The governor himself has demanded the same, twice. Unfortunately, the state wildlife department continues to ignore the science and mislead the public, and that harms wolves, livestock, science and trust in state wolf management.”

also got fucking. gender affirmation/authoritarian rant At the, really a recruitment, event we did saturday. which we weren't there to scout people anyway, we were actually giving shade trees to city residents but i digress.
little old white man walks up to the table and i say "would you like a tree?" and he goes Off about his grandfather being a part of my workplace (outdoorsy job full of construction and wildlife management) back in the day they did Hard Labor like logging and park building, etc. and Literally how Every Young Man like me should have to do my job for like 2 years and it should "be like the draft" 😭😭😭
left me in a fuguelike state of unawareness for like an hour afterward. i really Did Not have the heart to tell him i
A) did not have to file draft papers based on the Not assigned male blah blah blah at 'birth' and
B) even if i were i'm a fuckin draft dodger anyway
later, i thought about it and talked it thru w a coworker and we came up with "plant trees not war" and that in fact reintroducing native flora (what we actually do) has a way more positive impact than patriotically murdering people so he wasn't Completely wrong just the concept of drafting people to do it and basically saying at the same time drafting for the military is just and appropriate was just ridiculous to me. also that he completely assumed my gender made me LOL. HARD. internally bc i was Not out to the ppl i worked w that day i had to keep it innnnn !!

What sort of cat treats do miaukyrie like? i can pin shu as maybe a fillet mignon conserves guy, would not eat dry crokets at all, but idk about mika. hes more of a starving thin cat pulling out fish skeleton from trash, no? i also wonder what their collars would look like and how they would feel about having them, bells or no bells by your mind. I am also going to ask wether these kitties have nails they use to scratch your back or face with or does producer have to trim the naughty kittens for their crimeAnd my last question is would they do the hissing and the meowing and screming while raising their backs to appear bigger when in annoyed state. Thank you please answer soonly with a lot of scientific and deep thought in long socratic paragraphs
I'm kissing you on the forehead and cheeks and nose and and and
Under a cut because this is my thesis, my catboy manifest.
Treats
Shu would be such a stuck-up gourmet about the stuff he wants to be fed. He doesn't eat just anything, and that includes treats. If it wasn't the most expensive item in the store, he's likely to just point his nose up at it and say he won't eat it. It costs more to buy snacks for him than full meals for yourself. He's spoilt and absolutely refuses to be treated as anything short of royalty.
Paralleling Mika's orphan status, I think catboy Mika would have grown up as a stray. Cartoon stray with a chunk of its ear bitten off and a fish skeleton in its mouth as it peeks out from a bin. That's Mika. That's why he's just happy he's getting fed, you could give him bread crust and he'd be thanking you for it. And treats? He's so easy to train because he goes insane for treats. Since he's never had the chance to enjoy them before <3

YES. I feel like they'd both like collars, but in completely different fashions.
Shu doesn't want any collar that's "ugly", he wants soft silk and lace and pretty colours and he wants multiple collars he can match to different outfits. Nothing that would irritate his skin, nothing too tight, and nothing that's obviously a collar. Because something that is an obvious collar is like an advertisement of the fact that he's "owned", and he doesn't want that. He'd like having a collar as a symbol of his bond with his owner, but not as a symbol of the fact that he's a pet. Because not Shu Itsuki, he's the one in charge (he thinks).
Mika is again on the "doesn't care, he's just happy to be here" side; he's just happy to be given a collar because as far as he's concerned, as long as he's wearing it, he won't be abandoned. I think Mika would prefer those thicker leather collars, though, aesthetically. And, honestly, I'd put a bell on his collar. Not because he's sneaky or because he'd terrorise the local wildlife, but just because he'd be cute with a bell. <3 Shu would be mortified if you made him wear a bell, but I think Mika might even like being jingly.
3. Nails
Shu actually files his nails. He's not debasing himself by scratching neither furniture nor scratching posts. And he probably has scratched the producer once or twice if they startled him <3 But he refuses to let anyone touch them, so even if he starts assaulting people, he's not getting his nails cut.
Mika has scratched furniture once (1), cried while being scolded, and then never touched furniture again. But he doesn't know how to take care of his nails, so producer trims them manually. <3
4. Defence
I feel like they wouldn't quite raise their backs since they're still bipedal, but
Shu hisses and does the most to appear taller. Mika is someone who's usually a bit slouched, so he's quick to straighten up to gain height, meows loudly and bares his teeth.
Shu scratches when threatened, Mika bites. Something like that. <3

Oh god what did Owlvid do now?
1). Entertaining a user who wants to start harassment against a Redditor for the following reasons: said Reddit user doesn't think the Save a Fox is literally Satan incarnate, but fur farming really needs to be overhauled and Sea World isn't that great. Keep in mind, I found the Reddit user who said this and had to find some serious scrolling to find the "confrontation". It was civil and basically boiled down to the fact that the Redditor didn't think it was moral to wear fur from farmed foxes and that the current drama around Save a Fox is really overblown.
SAF isn't great. It's a damn sight better than a lot of sanctuaries because they euthanize for medical reasons and actually provide vet care, but it's not as good as some of the ones I've worked with. Granted, my rescue work has been focused around rescuing abused Amish workhorses, so I'm not the best to ask here. The food situation is probably boiling down to a "fed is best" approach (meaning: the food they are using is hyper-palatable, but not the best for the animals. They are probably trying to make up for it in supplements).
However. I have a similar situation with my cats. My vet told me that it's best to offer a food that everyone will eat every time and manage the issues as they come up.
SAF has a lot to be criticized for. I don't agree with a lot of what they do, but I can appreciate the mission. I can also appreciate the fact that Fish and Wildlife is not going to do anything because the proper permits are filed and paid for. I'm also assuming there's a rabies plan (the one I worked with had a rabies plan because they had dogs, cats, and an animal everyone suspected to be a wolf-dog).
However. Inciting harassment against a random Redditor for not agreeing with you 110% is a dick move.
2). Inserting themself into a discussion around the state of XL bullies in the UK and parroting lines from The Daily Mirror that came straight out of the anti-pit bull lobby. The Mirror is known for bad journalism. It's a tabloid. It's no different from those "Princess Diana was really a sex changing alien!!!1!!" magazines.
What's going on in that situation is a genetic mutation in the most popular line of dogs that didn't start popping up until fairly recently. The breeders were either A), puppy mills or B), didn't know the dogs had it.
Owlvid and Co picked up that, ran with it, and came up with the idea that XL bullies were bred to guard drug dens and eat people. Which, uh, is not the case. They're a companion breed. The issues are coming from one line of dogs that was super popular and than inbred. But of course, that doesn't get as much attention as a line from a racist rag.
TL;DR: drama around people not fully agreeing with them and wanting attention.
