#WHO ARE FRED JONES'S PARENTS

Text
Because of the Velma show, a lot of people's pitches for a new adult Scooby Doo have Fred coming from a richer, upper-class family. Now, I know that comes from Fred being Mayor Jones's adopted/kidnapped son in Mystery Inc, but we're totally missing a goldmine here.
Fred isn't like Daphne. He doesn't come from a rich family more often than not. In fact, Fred's family history is so strange and convoluted from reboots, off-hand mentions, plot twists, and straight-to-DVD movies that Fred is related to more people than my mom knows people at random restaurants.
The goldmine is that we don't know the truth about Fred's family or parents. Are they the cruise-loving Skip and Peggy Jones from "Scooby-Doo! Pirates Ahoy!"? What about the dangerous Brad Chiles and Judy Reeves of the original Mystery Incorporated? Or what about Mayor Fred Jones Sr?! It's not that last one, but the gist is we don't know who Fred's parents actually are. Fred doesn't know who his parents actually are. You look up "Fred Jones parents" on Google, and THE TOP RESULT IS FREDDIE SHRUGGING IN THE CONFUSION AND HORROR OF IT ALL!
Tumblr media
Nobody knows where Fred came from- not even Fred- and maybe that's how it should be...
All these obscure family members and the 5+ potential parents from his overlapping stories... the elaborate traps and random knowledge explained away offhandedly by his shady past... that perfectly happy, preppy attitude untouched by the greed of 1970s capitalists and ghouls... the ascot!
These all lead me to believe that Fred has no parents, rich or otherwise. Fred Jones is a [teenageyoungadultcollegiate] man who awoke one day from nothing, a new consciousness born of the universe, with nothing but a love of learning, a passion for solving mysteries, and a fucking groovy van to help him survive. From there, our dear Freddie made a family for himself, by traveling the world in his van, meeting new people, and picking up the weirdest interests and hobbies.
While the other members of the gang all have families and homes to go back to, Freddie has the mystery machine. That is his home, and his family are the friends he makes along the way- including Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby. Amen.

kinda makes me emotional how in mystery incorporated, ALL of the gang are shown to feel outcast from their family in some way, and how having each other to lean on is what makes things better for them in the end.
like, daphne doesn't get along with her sisters, who constantly look down on her, and her parents are disapproving of her hobbies, friends, and boyfriend.
shaggy's parents are distant and the first chance they get they send him away to the military and scooby to a farm.
velma doesnt understand why her parents do what they do and so quickly believe in the supernatural, and in turn she feels like they dont understand her either.
and fred has such an insanely complicated and genuinely kind of sad relationship with every member of his family. the closest thing he has to a parent is the man who raised him-- and mayor jones is similarly unhappy with fred's interests and thinks he's strange-- and it turns out that not only is he not his real father, but that he's a criminal who HE helped catch. and when he finally meets his real parents after searching for them for so long (all while LITERALLY HOMELESS), they use him for their own gain.
but like,,, all of them are still so happy regardless. because they have each other. and even when they fight and break up and things are hard, they always come together in the end because they love one another so much. and that love is why they overcome the curse and stick together even after the universe is reset into an ideal world for them all. not only are they friends, but they're a family.

I’ve been thinking about this for the past couple of days. A more mature Scooby-Doo series can be done, and it can be done well. I’ve seen a lot of proposals for an adult Scooby-Doo series, so here’s mine.
Fred doesn’t have family. His parents change from series to series. The only consistent thing about Fred’s family is that it is uncertain, so it starts like this: Something strange and unexplained happened to Fred’s parents when he was a child. He was five years old and ever since he’s been filled with only questions. So he grows up with a curiosity that can never be satisfied. He goes to college, and gets a degree in physics. All the moving parts of any kind of machine is have always fascinated him. As a little ten year old he’d stand for hours in Krispy Kreme watching the machine that makes the donuts. So he’s an inventor. His pride and joy is his old van he paid $100 for an fixed up himself.
The Blakes are old money. They haven’t known financial insecurity since the 1610s. So they’ve got houses, and planes, and helicopters, and cars. Old cars. But the head of the family, (picks name out of hat) Robert “Dick” Blake has no idea how to take care of them. He’s a business man. He finds Fred Jones, a genius mechanic, and hires him on the spot.
Now, Dick loves his daughters dearly. All six of them. He’s been grooming his oldest to take over the company when he retires. Unfortunately that means he gets to spend less and less time with his other daughters to the point where his youngest daughter, Daphne, only gets to see him on holidays and her birthday (he’s trying, he really is). But Daphne is fine with that. After being raised in the lap of luxury, silver spoon in her mouth, she has had access to almost every hobby imaginable. She got excellent grades at her fancy private schools, and in her free time she did Karate, Boxing, Kick boxing, Mixed Martial arts, gymnastics, Ballet, tap dancing, tennis, basketball, soccer, volley ball, skiing, knitting, crochet, baking, embroidery, sewing, synchronized swimming, you name it, she’s done it. She graduated college with a degree in marketing she didn’t really want, wondering what she was going to do with her life. So, she wonders into the garage one day and discovers Fred working on a car. So she asks him about it. She listens and she learns. Eventually, they stop talking about cars. Daphne asks about Fred’s inventions and Fred asks about Daphne’s hobbies. They are fast friends and once they get close enough, Fred tells Daphne about his parents. Daphne immediately pledges to help her friend (and now secret crush) figure out what happened to his parents.
Velma is Daphne’s genius best friend. They were roommates in college. The building Velma had all her lab classes in had Daphne’s last name on it. Velma worked hard to get her scholarship for her forensic chemistry degree, and she was not going to let some spoiled, rich, daddy’s girl, ruin it for her. But one night Velma was walking back to her dorm after dark. Everyone knows to be wary on a college campus after dark, but Velma had just studied her brain into mush. She got cornered by some drunk asshole. Velma in her fear and panic, froze. Her voice wouldn’t work, and she feared for her life, when suddenly, the guy gets punched in the face. By Daphne. The guy crumples to the ground, Daphne grabs Velma by the wrist, and they don’t stop running until they are safely back in their dorm. Velma never doubts her again.
Now, for all their skills and knowledge, none of the three of them, know how to cook. Which is where Shaggy and Scooby come in. I saw someone (on Twitter, I think) say that Shaggy could have diabetes (I don’t know anything about diabetes so I am really sorry about any inaccuracies) and Scooby is Shaggy’s low blood sugar alert dog. I really like the idea that Shaggy is a licensed dietitian, and the only one who knows how to cook. After every case, shaggy herds them all back home and makes a nice, home cooked meal for everyone. Lasagna, stir fry, curry, soup, idk food.
Shaggy is Fred’s roommate, after college. They have a deal, Shaggy cooks, Fred cleans.
In my mind, Scooby starts off as a normal dog. On the gang’s very first case together, they encounter the series’ over all villain, or maybe the first villain they face is an actual witch or something I don’t know, but this witch is caught and tries to put a curse on the gang, but it hits Scooby instead, and now he’s a talking dog. He’s still very much Shaggy’s alert dog, but I like to think he becomes concerned with everyone’s health at least a little bit. They do all that running around, and all these mysteries they solve are very high stress, so he likes to make sure they get plenty of rest.
I’m not really sure about their first case, but I think every episode would start with a grizzly murder. We are using the R rating for blood and guts and bones and death. Not sex or nudity. And Fred is the only one who gets to swear.
Now, Daphne is the one that talks to clients. If they’re particularly shaken up, Shaggy will make them a hot drink and maybe give them a blanket.
I call it Scooby Doo: Private Investigators
I have more thoughts about this, so if you want to know more please ask!!

I realised my passion for crossover has just created a multiverse of, I don't fucking know, detectives and supernatural stuff (no, it's NOT superwholock)
So we start by assuming, like some already did, that Q from the Daniel Craig's James Bond movies is the fourth Holmes's siblings. So you get four Holmes: Mycroft, Sherlock, Eurus and Q. But then Q in clearly in a romantic relationship with James Bond.
Now it's undeniable that James Bond has a twin brother, Benoit Blanc, who is the world's most famous detective, and he is married to Philip (Hugh Grant). You can clearly notice from Benoit's...everything (passion for mistery and fasion sense most of all) that he is related to Fred Jones from Scooby Doo, he and Philip are in fact Fred's parents.
To conclude this part of multiverse of hyperfixation, James Bond exists in the same world of a bunch of teenagers with 1970's van and a talking dog. I cannot stress how important it is for me that Sherlock Holmes DOES NOT solve the mustery of why Scooby Doo can talk.
But let's now expand in a different direction.
For some of you who might not be acquainted with the medical drama House MD, it's one of the gayest shows ever made on God's green earth. And, as all the fans know, the REAL finale is House and Wilson running away together after all Wilson's problems suddenly disappeared (I am phrasing it like that because I don't want to spoil it). Now, of course they can't live in America because House can't exactly recover from his own Reichenbach falls, so obviously they have go to London. Like, no questions asked.
And as many have already speculated they are probably the married couple Mrs Hudson's friend was renting an apartment to.
Sherlock-Watson and House-Wilson have a complicated dynamic going on, I just know they suspect of eachothers because there's something wrong with the other couple.
London comes, of course, with all it inhabitants, such as Crowley and Aziraphale (whose supernatural presence could explain Scooby Doo being able to talk???? Maybe he is an ex-infernal hound sent to Shaggy??? Was Shaggy another aborted attempt at an Antichrist?????). I really likes to believe they're House-Wilson and Sherlock-Watson neighbours. And every one of these three couples tries to pretend they're a very normal couple, and not, like, non-human or a Government's resource or technically dead.
But also, you must not forget, London comes with Hob Gadling, the immortal lover of Sandman, who might as well exist in this universe, because why the fuck not, he stole the "meet every x years" idea from Crowley, the goddamn poser. Hob Gadling and Crowley clocked eachothers in a minute and now the two couples have dinners together because "they're the only other supernatural couple in the neighbourhood, we should befriend them!" (said Aziraphale and Hob while Crowley and Morpheus sighed).
ALSO to House MD fans I want to remind you that Wilson got arrested in Louisiana when he met House and there's a popular headcanon going on that Benoit Blanc is from Louisiana so do you think??? Benoit Blanc one day happened to interact with the police department of a city in Louisiana and a policeman was like "hey last week you missed a guy from New Jersey who deadass smashed an ancient mirror in a bar because they were playing a song he didn't like on the jukebox". And Benoit was like (I can't write his dialogues I am so sorry) "Mmhh yeah muhst say thur arh sum jingles I simply cannut grow fund of but by Guhd to,,, smash an ancient mirruh that wuld be bee-YOnd mahself"
And these connections are all canonical in my mind. (There are crossover fanfics between Good Omens and Sandman, and between House and BBC Sherlock, and between Sherlock and the James Bond franchise, and between House and Good Omens- there's a fic I really like with these fandoms- and there's a drawing I also reblogged on Tumblr of Fred presenting Benoit Blanc as his dad).
So, basically, in my head, Sherlock is highly pissed off by Benoit Blanc being considered the best detective in the world though he respects him, Q is Fred Jones's uncle and probably added a lot of cool MI6 features to the mystery machine, Gregory House, notorious atheist, lives in the same universe of angels and demons and the Sandman and pisses off Sherlock Holmes costantly just because they don't like eachothers, Hob Gadling amd Crowley looked at eachothers once and they knew neither of them were humans, Aziraphale and Crowley always stumble in every other characters' shenanigans and once in a while throw a miracle their way and Hugh Grant/Philip makes cupcakes for everyone.
And if you really want me to be precise, Dead Poet Society lore counts for Wilson, but Neil didn't, well, if you saw the movie you know.
And I know they are technically not correlated, but I would love to find a way to connect Dirk Gently, Todd Brotzman and The Rowdy Three in all this.
There's a part 2 to this post here

Character assassination and delayed puberty: VelmaHBO mishandling of Fred Jones
As I write the "I watched Velma HBO so you don't have too" reviews for episode 1 and 2, I decided to post this thought process I had regarding Fred's mischaracterization and, specifically, about the choice of giving him delayed puberty.
In the show, Mindy Kaling's self insert (because that ain't Velma in this or in the next life) comes to the conclusion that Fred is such a "spoiled white privileged brat" that his body didn't see the point of growing up at all.
First of all: Fuck that
Second of all: Whose brilliant idea (we all know who, but lets pretend for a second here) was it to turn FRED JONES: cheerleader; net lover; circus enjoyer; himbo friend; golden retriever sunshine boy and "I love my friends and my van so much you guys" into THIS?!?!
Is it because he is white, blond and has blue eyes???? Because it would be easy to make him into a caricature of white supremacy???
Yes. That's exactly why they changed Fred. Because it was easy.
I will go deeper on this in the full review of episode 1 and 2 (god help me) but this whole show is written in the most lazy way possible with jokes that would have fit perfectly in a edgy early 2000s show, where characters become those straw men versions of liberals conservatives IMAGINE exist.
Where people of color complain all the time about white supremacy but don't go deeper into it, its just complaining for the sake of complaining;
Where they bring genuine arguments people make but with zero nuance or though behind them, instead the writers put what THEY imagine it is about and, 99.9% of the time, they attribute it to people being "tOo sEnSiTiVe" and " tRiGgErEd SnOwFlAkEs"
Where people blow things out of proportion and accuse people left and right of being fascists (when they call Fred "Hitler" the background character says "he looks like Hitler. And I'm not just saying that because we call anyone Hitler nowadays") completely disregarding the WHY people in real life are calling out fascist behavior when they see it. Hello rise of fascism happening on the world, how is the INVASION OF CAPITOL IN AMERICA and THE INVASION AND DEPREDATION OF THE PLANALTO IN BRAZIL going for you?!;
This show is Family Guy. I would say it's worse than Family Guy even.
Third of all: Delayed puberty is an Actual Thing That Happens To People. It's something that can happen at random or it can be a genetic disorder shared in the family. It can be a symptom of something way more serious or something benign.
Many people that suffer from delayed puberty suffer from low self esteem because they have to watch their friends grow and develop when the same thing's not happening to them. They may feel like they're never going to catch up.
People are bullied over this, people develop depression.
And now these people are the punch line of this mean spirited joke.
I can even envision a better show where Fred still has delayed puberty, but instead of being the butt of jokes where people keep commenting on the size of the penis of this HIGH SCHOOLER, they treat as the constitutional delay it is. Fred is a late bloomer. It may be caused by a pattern of growth and development in his family, it may be a chronic illnesses he has. Can you imagine Fred with something like asthma or diabetes?
Lets go with that, lets imagine a Fred with diabetes, who is not receiving a proper treatment for said diabetes (maybe because his parents subscribe to that style of parenting where they are more concerned about appearances than the well being of their kid. "No, he has no problem. He is a perfectly healthy Jones."
Or they are the kind that say shit like this: "He doesn't have blurry vision he is just a lazy student, that's an excuse," or "You would stop going so much to the bathroom to piss if you stoped drinking water all the time" or even "I told you to not stay awake all night on those weird net making websites, now you're tired in class. What kind of mother they must think I am..." "But I didn't stay up all night, I swear–" "Don't you lie to me Frederick") and as such the side effects and symptoms are left unchecked.
So the Fred Velma, and we the audience, are introduced too is the heir of this fortune... who can't stay standing because he is constantly tired, has completely given up on trying to apply himself on school because he can't see the fucking board his vision is so blurry, has passed out at least once in gym, drinks water like he lives in a dessert and is so self conscious about his body that even his girlfriend hasn't seen him shirtless even once. The swim team hasn't seen him shirtless even once, so there are these whiplash inducing photos in the year book where is a bunch of guys in speedos nest to this one dude in an early 20th century striped swimming suit.
In episode 1 itself Velma's vision of Fred can start biased, after all from a distance a person that doesn't know Fred personally can chalk his behavior to "rich dramatic boy that knows he doesn't need to put effort into learning since he already has a fortune guaranteed for him after all this, so he is just sleeping and vibing and being dramatic through high school" but as the episode progresses and she gets to know Fred, she notices that the image doesn't fit. Fred, who has such in depth knowledge about physics and mechanics, who clearly loves his girlfriend very much and feels bad about the murder of this girl he considered a friend. The image of "Rich guy that doesn't care" is not fitting.
I want it to be a Velma and Daphne epiphany. About Daphne talking about all these things Fred has told her or that she noticed about him to Velma as they look for clues and it hits Velma as a she connects all together. The tiredness, the pissing, the thirst, the blurry vision.
Daphne may have not seen it because she is too close but with Velma's outside perspective the pieces fall into place.
Now lets imagine that instead of cop lesbian moms, Daphne could have lesbian doctor/nurse moms. They take him to them and they give him what he desperately needed:
"No, dear. You're not lazy, or broken, or an attention seeker, or any other bullshit your parents called you. You have diabetes. Type 1 to be precise."
After Daphne and Velma hug a crying Fred until he has no more tears to give, the series progresses with Fred now treating his diabetes as one of its recurring plot lines.
I want Daphne to have extra insulin in her purse, I want Shaggy to help Fred with his new diet, I want Fred and Velma to go exercising together and have deep conversations about body image and how they deal with it (Fred with his delayed puberty, Velma with her extra weight)
"Mature" and "Adult" content doesn't need to be edgy sex-violence-and-drugs.
It can be simply a story of a high schooler having to deal with diabetes in a country were insulin is expensive as fuck, some parents are more willing to let their kids suffer than offer any kind of help or even admit that there may be a problem in the first place, of dealing with body image and things that are out of your control.
Just a thought.
This is a post by The-Scooby-Gang, thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Caregivers Mystery Inc. Headcanons (Scooby-Doo)
Tumblr media
Fred Jones
If there’s something you try to avoid doing - brushing your teeth, taking a nap, etc - he’ll create a trap to catch you in. Every trap is super safe and incredibly fun!
He’s probably the best cuddler in the gang; he gives fantastic bear hugs.
Fred loves taking you for rides in the Mystery Machine - especially if being in a moving vehicle helps you fall asleep.
He’s big on puzzle books and loves to go through them with you.
He TRIES to be firm with you… but he just can’t be. You’re too cute!
Velma Dinkley
She is ACTUALLY firm with you; no puppy-dog eyes are going to change her mind. Nice try, though.
She enjoys doing crafts with you; anything that can occupy her hands but doesn’t take too much focus is appealing to her. You once made her a beaded glasses chain, and she wears it everywhere.
She likes to give you worksheets to do - usually relating to history.
She’ll read you Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books, and she makes sure you notice the important clues.
In general, Velma does best with big kids. She loves little kids, but hanging out with a kiddo who can (kind of) understand the things she talks about makes her feel more like a parent.
Daphne Blake
Daphne, on the other hand, does best with littler kids and babies. She loves having someone to fuss over and take care of.
She loves helping you get dressed everyday, and always puts you in cute outfits.
She is fascinated by chemistry, and definitely shares that passion with you. Making baking soda volcanos is one of your favorite shared activities.
If you like roller coasters, she’s right there with you! Daphne loves coasters and can usually arrange for you to sit in the front car if you want.
(But she insists on being the one to buckle you in. You’re much too young to do it by yourself!)
Shaggy Rogers
Food is his love language. You’re feeling upset? He cooks up your favorite comfort meal. You did something really hard? He takes you out to celebrate! You’ve been playing for a long time? Snack break!
He is also SUPER careful about any food restrictions or allergies you have - and he will not hesitate to approach the waiter if there’s a mistake in your order. (He’s always polite, of course, but he’s not going anywhere until you have food you can eat.)
Whenever you have nightmares he’s right there to calm you down and help you fall back to sleep.
One of his favorite thing to do is hang out and watch movies with you. Even scary movies are fun (though he sometimes closes his eyes).
He can always, ALWAYS make you laugh…
Scooby-Doo
And YOU can always make SCOOB laugh. He’s very easily amused and his snickering laughter make you giggle.
(And he also makes you laugh when he does impressions. The dog’s a total ham!)
He’s super protective of you; even the scariest ghost couldn’t make him leave your side.
He love to play with you, or just hang out…
But his favorite thing is to curl up beside you and take a nap, knowing no monsters can get near you.

thoughts and headcanons about what happened to the og mystery incorporated after they left Crystal Cove
[ to clarify the situation, in my hc they all have loving parents (with the exception of Ricky and Brad’s fathers), that weren’t perfect and had some issues (ex : Judy’s dad has trouble showing that he cares about his kids, Cassidy’s parents who can be overprotective etc)
so yes, leaving them was absolutely horrible for the kids ]
The gang : they stayed together a few weeks after leaving Crystal Cove, sleeping in motels or in the Enigma Machine. But after one big fight they separated. I think they couldn’t stay together because of how hurt they all were and because they were lost and didn’t know how to react to what happened. (a bit like mystery incorporated at the end of season 1)
Cassidy : I think that Cassidy would be the one to suffer the most, because of how much she loves and cares about her family. So when she leaves Crystal Cove, I think there’s immediately something that changed in herself and in her relationship with her friends, especially Ricky. I do believe that they broke up relatively quickly after leaving the town. She felt numb and not capable of loving after what she went through, and needed to start a new life (ex : she changed her name)
Ricky : after his breakup with Cassidy, he completely disappeared and came back to Crystal Cove 5 years after leaving the town, to start Destroido. I see him missing his parents in the beginning, but also simply giving up on that feeling after a few years (the one he’s really missing (and he doesn’t want to admit it) is Pericles, even after what happened). His parents were the first to leave the town after their son’s disappearance. But he definitely tried to contact his mom a few times, before completely giving up.
Brad & Judy : Brad definitely blames himself for what happened in the church and later on in the cave. As the leader of mystery incorporated, he blames himself for bringing them there in the first place, and wanting to investigate. Regret turned into anger and bitterness over time, and was a reason for their fight after leaving the town. Judy definitely missed her family a lot and never recovered from loosing them.
Now regarding what happened with Fred, here’s what I think happened :
Something that always intrigued me is that Brad came to Crystal Cove with Fred alone. Mayor Jones specifically stated that Judy wasn’t there and that’s something very interesting. My hypothesis is that they clearly didn’t planed on having a kid two years after leaving Crystal Cove, since they were hella young and surely didn’t had the money to take care of a kid. Brad then took Fred to the only place where someone could possibly help them, Crystal Cove, where both of their family lived, in a desperate way of asking their parents for help (maybe for money, or simply advice on how to raise up a kid). But once he got there, he realised that both of their families left Crystal Cove. At that moment I can imagine that he felt some kind of mixed feelings, like a mix of sadness and betrayal.
At the same time, the freak realised that Brad is back in town, he panicked and tried to find a way to make him leave the town. And the only idea he had to make that happen (since both of their families already left the town and can’t be use to blackmail them) is taking Fred. We know that after that Jones decides to raise up Fred and the rest is history.
I think that such an event definitely traumatised both of them (and specifically Brad since he’s the one that brought Fred with him to Crystal Cove, blaming himself even more), and that they never healed from that. Explaining why they are acting so weird as adults later on. Brad and Judy only had each other to get trough life and they knew that as long as they stayed together, they could make it. And because the idea of loosing another person they loved after loosing their families, their friends and their son was surely terrifying.
(again, that’s before they all come back in Crystal Cove, before the curse takes the best away from them etc etc… just a bunch of hc I have about happened before the main story :))
Side note : I would give anything just to have Jones as Fred’s godfather in the pre nibiru timeline, and I mean ANYTHING. He could have been a positive influence in the og gang’s life and he therefore in Brad and Judy’s life. MAKING HIM A PART OF FRED’S LIFE WAS STILL POSSIBLE. (yes I’m a big fan of the Brad-Judy-Jones dynamic)

Alright the word vomit that is subject to change off my "Pericles and Jones gain braincells and realize that they are not going to give into the curse and don't blackmail the og Mystery Inc gang" au. I have a summary for that here.
This ended up being really long but it's the whole word vomit of the au of what I got so far.
So let's start with the basics: Why Pericles nopes out of the curse.
Simple. Realized he was being manipulated into joining those who came before him, and saw it as an insult to his intelligence to be manipulated by something smarter than him and refused to play the game. Plus, put his friends over his selfish desires because he realized they were all in danger in a way he didn't want them to be. Which in turn also helps Jones nope out because if the smart parrot of all things is telling you to not go after the curse after the massive amount of disappearances and the way mystery groups were targeted and how nothing good has ever come from people being involved in the curse, it would be a good idea to listen.
What does that mean for the OG Mystery Inc?
Pericles and Jones sat them down, told them for the love of all things under the sun DO NOT go looking into this because it's a curse and you're probably going to end up dead or something much worse. Divine intervention actually got them to listen...might have also been the fact Jones, an adult, and Pericles, someone they trusted, told them for their own safety not to look into it and Pericles even brought the history to the table to prove it. So they pretty much got to continue on with their lives and completely dodge a cursed bullet that would have shot them all at different times in the future. Nobody got black mailed and everyone is okay! ...sorta.
Brad and Judy and the accidental birth of Fred
(Just for context, the OG Gang always struck me as like second year high school when they got blackmailed into leaving so they're like, at this point, in their senior year) I see the OG Gang, at least Brad and Judy, keeping a positive relationship with Jones as he had access to the town's archives and would aid them on mysteries plus Jones may have become like an older brother figure to Brad. And I'll just share this piece from the current wip I am working on to explain what happens. "Brad and Judy had always had good heads on their shoulders. They were both smart and resourceful. They were in a healthy relationship that was seemingly going to follow them out of high school as well. But they were still kids despite both being eighteen but barely seniors. They were young. Really young when Brad had frantically showed up at Jones’ apartment." Aka Judy ended up accidentally pregnant during her final year of high school. Jones finds out first, and is the only one to know for sometime before Cassidy is helping Judy hold her hair back while she's puking out her guts on a near daily basis. Which in turn leads to the rest of the group knowing. Judy and Brad are completely underestimating what having a kid will mean. They are under the delusion that life will resume as normal after the birth of their unborn kid but also certain that they will be able to take care of him despite both of them still being in high school with plans to go into med school right after they graduate. And so, mystery solving is put on the back burner cuz no one wants to risk Judy's (and the baby's) safety. Brad and Judy hang out with Jones a lot more often since they don't have a lot of people in the know about Judy's pregnancy, and besides, Ricky and Cassidy are FINALLY working things out (more on that later) Jones is there when Judy has the baby. Both her and Brad realize at the worst possible time that they are not suitable to be parents, as both of them are still in school, they cannot afford to take care of him, and Judy fears that if they make him stay, he'll hate them in the future because they were too stubborn and too selfish to give him a better chance. Something out there intervenes again. Another wip to explain. “Was there ever a name in mind for him?” Jones wasn’t sure why he asked. Judy and Brad shared a look before Judy let out a soft laugh.  “We were going to name him Fred,” Brad explained.  “After you,” Judy clarified. And of course, Jones cannot just let these two kids he sees as younger siblings/close friends, just give their kid up to some stranger where his fate is uncertain after they told him they were going to name the baby after him. So Brad and Judy hand custody over to Jones, Jones keeps Fred's name as is because how could he not, and Fred Jones Jr is alive and well in the world. Brad and Judy are noted to be his uncle and aunt and try to be involved as they can (more on that later)
Ricky, Cassidy, and Pericles
Alright. I mentioned earlier that Ricky and Cassidy were starting to figure things out while Brad and Judy had the baby drama going on. the TLDR, without monsters chasing them on a weekly basis, and not having to hang out with the group as a whole as often, they hung out a lot more and got comfortable with each other because of it. Not to say they weren't comfortable before, but in a more "we can exist in each other's space and it isn't so incredibly awkward cuz we're both crushing on each other." Like both of them vibing to Ricky playing his keytar and just doing quality time together. Pericles is noted to have been canonically jealous of Cassidy. Well, since he's not being a selfish terrifying jerkward, he realizes that Ricky is growing up, and he actually has a chance to live now that he might not have had if they continued digging into the curse. Pericles realizes that Cassidy isn't the absolute worse because one, Cassidy makes Ricky happy. And two, if Ricky has to date anyone, Pericles rather it be Cassidy because that is the only person he is willing to share Ricky with.
So What Happens After?
Well, OG Gang grow up. They go to prom. Brad proposes to Judy. She says yes. They graduate. Cassidy is valedictorian. Brad and Judy get married in the summer before Mystery Inc finally comes to an end. As much as they loved Crystal Cove and all its unanswered questions, the young adults had to ask themselves who they were without it and wanted to find out. Brad and Judy go out of state to go to med school and study to become doctors. And may nor may not create a trap hustle on the side due to their coping methods of stress which is to build traps. Cassidy was prompted by Pericles to go into engineering, she refused and perused her passions now that she had the freedom to do so. And it is terrifying but incredibly badass. Ricky was going to go in as a journalist, changed majors and went into business. Ricky and Cassidy are not married yet. They talked about it, and had made off hand comments but they're fine where they're at. Timing is an issue again. Besides, they're happy and married in all the other ways but legally. (Maybe also cuz I wanted to get the Scooby Gang involved in the wedding party lol) Pericles, who has tagged along with Ricky and Cassidy to keep an eye on them, is glad that everyone left because that means the curse has less of reach to corrupt his friends. Fred grows up with Jones. But also an extended family in the form of the OG Gang. They try and visit for every winter break and birthday. Brad and Judy call every weekend. Cassidy and Ricky send him gifts in the mail. And Pericles be sending picture books. Fred end ups not having a lot of friends his first few years of school. He talks too much about traps and that's because when he was five, Brand and Judy had brought home a prototype net launcher that Fred found so cool he wanted to replicate it and that spawned his love of traps. It isn't until he's seven do Ricky and Cassidy move back home, with Ricky getting ownership of Destroido (it's debatable if he'll try and push for clean energy but considering the entity is still sorta alive and kicking, probably not) and Cassidy getting the K-Ghoul radio station, Brad and Judy confess that they're his parents, and he meet and befriends Shaggy and Velma, but Velma is more of his bestie in his early elem days since she's the only one who sorta understand trap talk and he understands part of her science talks since if it falls under physics, they're speaking similar languages in different fonts.
The rest of WIP that is subject to change
Brad and Judy move back when Fred is nine (they live near the high school and Fred splits his time between their house and Jones' but is usually more with Jones since his parents are usually busy and they don't want to neglect him) and Pericles is rightfully paranoid because his friends are all back in a place where something very evil and cursed is trying to get to them so he is on high alert. But, Pericles was somewhat cautious upon meeting Velma (when Fred was seven) because if Fred is the Brad/Judy spawn, Velma is the really smart friend in a sense that reminds him a little too much of Cassidy, and he's starting to worry about the curse slowly coming around the bend. But stuff should be fine...hopefully. Fred ends up having Daphne in his class when he's ten and she befriends him and he introduces her to Velma and Shaggy. And fifth grade is when Pericles nearly has a heart attack. Because now that Fred is older, he brings his friends around a lot more since Velma's mom is used to her always being at Fred's house (or the radio station when Jones can't watch them even tho Brad and Judy live nearby, they are still busy with med school), Shaggy is often forgotten to be picked up by his parents and catches a ride with Fred's dad (or sometimes Cassidy (who has become an established figure in the kid's lives as has Ricky and Pericles since they're always around Fred)) and Daphne doesn't have enough attention on her at home and hates being in the house when her parents are always so focused on her perfect sisters and here she can just be herself with her friends. Pericles is seeing the dots connect and he is paranoid. The Brad, Fred. The Judy, Daphne. The Cassidy, Velma. And the Ricky, Shaggy. He's pointed this out to his friends and they all do take notice but hope that it goes away. But it's fine. It is all totally fine. Even if the kids talk about Shaggy's dog, Scooby, that has an appetite as big as he does and likes watching movies and that they all really want to meet Scooby. But kids are full of imagination. Pericles has seen them turn a couch into a pirate ship. Has witnessed them saying that the animal heads on the wall were fantasy creatures that were going to kill them in their sleep. Made up a rumor about the forest around K-Ghoul was haunted and snatches children in the middle of the night. So he takes it all with a grain of salt when they mention things of Scooby talking. Until one day Shaggy delays the group on their way to Jone's house since he asked if he could bring his dog along since his parents don't want to be taking care of his dog when he isn't home. Pericles finds out three interesting things. One, Scooby talks. Two, the kids were not lying. Three, there are four kids, a talking animal, and that means that the curse is trying to take effect. It all hits the fan when the kids end up solving their first mystery fresh into middle school.
There's like a lot more mini details but this is like the basics lol

Since I’ve been seeing a lot of Scooby doo rewrites and redesigns for the mystery gang since Velma came out, I have my own idea.
Velma and the Dinkley family have been known to have a connection to the paranormal, often causing problems with the community that they tend to move around a lot. Being in her junior year of high school, Velma isn’t all too keen about another fresh start in her newest home of Coolsville as she rarely has time to make any connections with her peers and make friends before she has to leave them behind once more.
Despite her families paranormal curse, Velma has a great interest in the macabre and mystery, deciding that she’ll create a name for herself through starting a mystery solving club.
During her first day, she ends up meeting three people that catch her interest:
Daphne Blake, the schools student body president, head of the cheer team and fashion expert. Generally viewed as popular with her peers and feels the need to keep up the appearance of being always put together despite the stress weighing her down in making her school proud along side meeting her families high expectations for her. While she generally is interested in fashion and cheer, she has a fondness for crime novels and detective series.
Fred Jones, son of the towns mayor, football captain and resident prom king. While a popular kid due to his Captain status, he often is rumored to be spoiled/entitled, being handed everything he’s gotten all of his life. Despite this, he works hard to prove to people that he isn’t what the rumors make him out to be. Outside of football, he has a great interest in trap making and creating machinery of all sorts, having a workshop for himself in his home garage.
Norville ‘Shaggy’ Rogers, the schools resident food lover and blogger, having his own channel dedicated to different food he’s tried. He’s often a chill and laid back person, which is a stark contrast to his more strict parents who don’t approve of his lifestyle. While not a fan of horror as a whole, he does find cheesy paranormal shows and movies entertaining as they helped him deal with his anxieties alongside Scooby, his family dog that became his closest and only friend growing up.
The mystery club started by Velma is what draws them to each other, slowly but surely getting to know each other better. Eventually they begin looking into cases reported around the town, solving small mysteries that slowly grow to reveal something more sinister about the town.
Things take a turn after Velma returns home to find her home a wreck, realizing her parents had all but disappeared.
The gang begin investigating her family’s disappearance, things only beginning to unravel for the town as more things are revealed.
That’s all so far, comment below if you’d like more!

Wednesday: Season 1 will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on March 26 via MGM and Warner Bros. The Netflix original series is executive produced by Tim Burton, who directed the first four of eight episodes.
Created by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (Smallville), the show stars Jenna Ortega, Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, Fred Armisen, and Christina Ricci.
It's nice to see a rare Netflix home video release, but unfortunately no special features are listed.
Wednesday is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.

My own personal Scooby-Doo re-imagining canon includes:
-out and proud lesbian Dominican/Puerto Rican Velma (yes I'm projecting, leave me alone)
-Velma has audhd
- velmaphne happens eventually
-sapphic/unlabeled daphne
-ace/homoromantic and autistic Fred Jones
-he's dating Shaggy who is a pan Trans man
- they are adhd/autism boyfriends
-fuck it, they're all autistic and you can fight me
-Velma and Fred have a shared special interest in machines and will talk about it with each other. They love to share what they know or what they learned and talk about improvements to designs and the like.
-daph and Fred grew up together. Daph's family works in politics and Fred's dad is running for governor or some other government role. Maybe daph's dad is a congressman.
-Daphne is very romantic and tried to liken their relationship to that of a fairytale with Fred being her prince charming but it didn't work out that way
-the two are fs soul mates just not the ones Daphne wanted originally
-she did play match maker to shaggy and Fred and it was a feat. Although, she couldn't clock velms would practically break her back bending over backwards for her.
- they meet in college where velms is majoring in forensic science , Daph is double majoring in business and hospitality (because of her parents) but she switches to journalism where she is much happier, Fred is in Mechanical engineering (idk it makes sense imo) and shaggy is majoring in veterinary science or culinary arts.
-they met in a creative writing class for their humanities credit where they find out they have a shared love of horror movies and mysteries. They did seriously debate on creating a Vincent Van Ghoul fanclub.
- they don't become an actual mystery solving group until they find out about a missing person's case for a student in their class and decided to take matters into their own hands
-found family™ they understand each other like no one else
-besties shaggy and daphne! Daph is a huge foodie and runs a vlogging channel with him! They love romantic comedies and this one novella in particular and will have frequent sleepovers where they do each other's nails and hair and gossip and fan tf out
- Fred joins in on occasion. He loves it even though he doesn't know what's going on. He does engage when he can though and somehow becomes very versed in the relationship dynamics of the show
-shaggy plays wingman for velms and daph and will listen to both of them pine over the other. He is tired.
-velma is fluent in 5 languages and uses them frequently, even to flirt.
-Daph can speak 3 but mostly just to talk business.
-daphne tries so fucking hard to live up to the expectations that her parents has for her and she does but they are never completely satisfied. Her whole arc is finding her own sense of self outside of her family.
-she's head of the cheer team, debate club, and the fashion column in the school's newspaper and graduated saludatorian at her high school
-Velms is also a journalist and she will try and work with daph when she can
-Supernatural occurances does happen. Eventually at least. In the beginning it's their regular whodunit shtick until they meet cosmic horrors that even Lovecraft couldn't imagine and cults (gasp)
-there will be stakes! It will be mature and dark but bc the plot calls for it
-daph was a part of the hex girls as she roadie and backup to Thorne, she did use this fact to flirt with velms.
-They are their brujas on speed dial.
-The gang doesn't know how Daph did it or for how long and they'll never get a straight answer. One day daph will say she found them practicing in an abandoned space and the next she might say they met at a commune. Her favorite thing to say is "oh. You know." as cryptically as she can and just stare off into the distance, just for kicks. Shaggy is convinced Thorne is Daphs twin sister or clone and they won't try and convince him otherwise.
-the hex girls are a polyam couple
-Scooby is young dog instead of having grown up with shaggy. Great Danes only have like an 8-10 year life span where 6 is average. Shaggy found him a injured and wandering on the edge of the woods that's next to the school.
I do plan on writing out this fic but idk if it has any merit. If I do write it would anyone be interested in reading?

It’s Wednesday, my fellow Drewds! Going into the holidays I can’t help thinking about how our favorite Crew are celebrating the holidays. Can’t wait for all of the @secretsleuthexchange fics, gifsets, and fanvids we’re going to get!
In the meantime, I was inspired by a poll from @burningblake about which classic “standard” song best represents Nace (all excellent choices). I wound up making a Season 4 playlist of standards from the Great American Songbook, and a few other classic tracks, that represent their Season 4 journey for me. If you’re interested in this sort of thing, here we go!
I’ll be linking the Spotify tracks, but you should be able to find them all on Apple Music or YouTube. If you want a link to the full playlist, just hit me up here or on Discord.
1. The Nearness of You - This Hoagy Carmichael classic brings to mind Nancy and Ace’s inability to stay apart every time they’re near each other in Episode 401 🥺. I love the Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong duet, but I picked Norah Jones’ version from her 2002 debut album because it’s just so perfectly wistful.
Tumblr media
2. Is You Is or Is You Ain’t My Baby - this so so cool track was written by Louis Jordan, but I first heard it on Tom and Jerry (that’s the fighting cat and mouse cartoon in case you’re too young to remember them). I immediately envision the back and forth argument Nancy and Ace have throughout Episode 402 in the lyrics of this song. Ace just wants to know! I adore Joe Jackson’s version, but I went with Dinah Washington and Quincy Jones from 1956 because it is absolutely perfect.
Tumblr media
3. Night and Day - I like to imagine that Nancy and Ace stayed up all night talking at the end of 402. This song perfectly embodies their relationship at this stage 🥹. It was written by Cole Porter for Fred Astaire to sing in the original ‘The Gay Divorce’ Broadway musical (catch the film, a classic Fred and Ginger madcap musical romcom with such amazing dancing🕺🏼). But I had to go with Frank Sinatra from 1957’s ‘A Swingin Affair’ because it’s such a classic swing tune.
Tumblr media
4. April in Paris - I’m not crying, you’re crying. Warning, there’s going to be a lot of crying in this playlist. Nancy telling Ace the story of her parents’ honeymoon in Paris in Episode 403, that shy smile when she tells him she always wanted to recreate it with someone, GAH. I had to pick the wonderful Sarah Vaughan with Clifford Brown on trumpet, simply exquisite. I’m going to have to take a break to sob quietly in the corner. “What have you done to my heart” indeed.
Tumblr media
5. Fever - There was only one song, and only one version of this song, that matches the heat Nancy and Ace generated in the infamous Sigil scene. Peggy Lee burned the house down in 1958 with this track. “What a lovely way to burn” - Nancy can relate.
Tumblr media
6. So in Love - Another genius Cole Porter song, written originally for Kiss Me Kate, but sung here by the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald (my personal hero). I had to pick it for THE KISS. They are just so in love 😭. A beautiful song and a beautiful rendition worthy of Nancy and Ace’s love. The fact that Kiss Me Kate is a musical about bickering exes who eventually find love again makes it even more perfect.
Tumblr media
7. Crying - Roy Orbison, 1962. Need I say more? I may never recover from the final scene of 403. This song at least helps a little with the pain by naming it. Roy hits some insane notes in this song—the intensity matches both Nancy and Ace’s misery in that moment.
Tumblr media
8. Good Morning, Heartache - More like Good Morning, Sorbet. In Episode 404, Nancy drowns her sorrows in her favorite frozen dessert to deal with the heartache of gaining and losing Ace. And no one does heartache like Billie Holiday, who recorded this song in 1946. Heartache haunts Nancy all throughout S4, and this track represents it perfectly.
Tumblr media
9. I had two contenders for the Nace scenes in Episode 405, both from the early 60’s. I Fall to Pieces, released by Patsy Cline and The Jordanaires in 1961, was a country crossover and Patsy’s number one hit—an incredible track that embodies Nancy’s emotions on seeing Ace again. She can’t even look him the eye at the beginning of the episode. Which brings me to my other choice, Walk on By, written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach, and famously sung by Dionne Warwick in 1964. Nancy puts up a brave front for most of this episode, but inside she wants to break down and cry.
Tumblr media
10. Episode 405’s speed dating montage is one of my favorite scenes of Season 4. Again I have two contenders—why should I have to choose? Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer’s One For My Baby (and One More for the Road), as sung by Ella Fitzgerald (again ‘cause she’s the best), is an ideal soundtrack for Nancy’s increasingly desperate descent as she spends every would-be speed date talking about Ace and THAT KISS. Equally appropriate is Billy Strayhorn’s Lush Life—velvet-voiced Johnny Hartman and saxophonist John Coltrane’s 1963 track positively drips with ennui, elegantly over cocktails, of course. If you’ve never heard this one, please give it a listen. There’s even a mention of a week in Paris 🥺.
Tumblr media
11. Episode 406, with the infamous Spider Prom, is Ace’s episode IMO—we finally get to see how he’s dealing with the loss of the love of his life and his best friend. He so desperately wants to somehow get back to being friends with Nancy, he resorts to spending countless hours with the help of S4 MVP Nick trying to catch Chunky Velez for her. Can’t We Be Friends? is the perfect song for him in this episode, gorgeously sung by Ella and Louis. That is, until he spies Nancy and Tristan dancing, and realizes what he can never have. Etta James’ blistering track I’d Rather Go Blind captures Ace’s feelings in that moment. He may have been the one to halt their attempts to brake the curse, but he’s hurting just as much as Nancy is.
Tumblr media
12. I’ve got two seminal songs to represent Episode 407. When Nancy realizes that Ace let Chunky go, and hears his admission that seeing her with Tristan hurt, it positively screams Cry Me a River. No, not the Justin Timberlake song 😅. This epic torch song was famously sung by Julie London in 1955, and expresses beautifully Nancy’s scorn at Ace’s hypocrisy even as she admits that he broke her heart.
Tumblr media
Their fight, and Nancy’s subsequent dashed hopes that Ace would call her bluff and come back, makes me think of Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye. Another Cole Porter masterpiece sung by Ella. What can I say? You can’t top perfection:
Every time we say goodbye, I die a little Every time we say goodbye, I wonder why a little Why the gods above me, who must be in the know Think so little of me, they allow you to go
I dare you to listen to this track without weeping over the Nace of it all. Enjoy!
Well, Drewds, we’re just past the halfway mark of Season 4 and this post is already a novel, so I’m going to stop here for now. What did you think of my picks? Any you think I missed?
I’ll do a Part 2 as long as I get a few notes on this one 😂 . It will feature more classic songs that represent Nancy and Ace as they head into the back half of the season. I know it’s going to get rough ahead, but I promise the music will be sweet.
Update: Part 2 is here!

Here’s the beginning of my post-nibiru drawing series! I wanted to kick things off with Jones and Bronson who I will elaborate on more, but I wanted to share one of my little hcs/aus
I feel like After Nibiru, with the new timeline in place, some people would be able to recall certain events such as Jones having a son, a supposed fling with the Sheriff etc. Brad and Judy would hold guilt on their shoulders feeling as though they aren’t good enough parents for Fred even though they know they are. Jones would also remember being in prison even though he hadn’t been in this timeline. And Ricky would remember cassidy’s death and the trauma of it, even though they are happily married. And that’s what I wanted to get across in this image. In my au, Bronson and Jones Are still good friends (I like to imagine they could’ve perhaps gone to school together in this timeline) and of course Bronson is married to Janet with four kids. Jones is the god father of the kids and helps take care of them from time to time when Daphne isn’t babysitting. But sometimes looking at Bronson brings back memories he isn’t entirely sure existed. Memories of love, and then that pain of losing someone he loved so dearly because of his actions. Actions that no longer existed when the evil entity was destroyed. But the pain is still there nonetheless.

Standing, Asalun, & Associates
An AOM &c. AU that nobody asked for, so I'm delivering!
This is me taking Mystery Incorporated, Dead End: Paranormal Park, Hilda, Mob Psycho 100, and let's be honest, the whole ghost segment of The Sword Interval that lives rent-free in my mind into one vibeful concept: Horatio and Marcus run a paranormal investigation business.
Due to all of their proposed names being terrible puns or just not catchy, they gave up and called it Standing & Asalun. They run it out of what is Horatio's Flowers in AOM, and they do extremely lackluster business. However, Celia thinks it's the most delightful fucking thing and inserted herself into the investigation so much that they essentially hired her. She still has a day job, like Marcus, and unlike Horatio MyOwnBoss Standing. Eventually Allison joined in, and even if they would hire him he doesn't actually want the job, so he's technically a contractor. Still, the addition of another regular meant that they finally felt like they had to change the name to Standing, Asalun, & Associates.
Season One
Season one is the alternate story to AOM and begins with things going poorly as usual - they're not actually that bad at their job, but they have a hard time finding people who actually need paranormal things investigated, or even stuff they can put on their video channel - until Sid blows into town, with his parents not far behind. Horatio is instantly convinced that something is Off. No one else agrees - obviously Sid is just having a bad time and is also sixteen years older than when they last saw him. Horatio is ready to acknowledge that he was just too hungry for a lead when Sid starts having dreams that are very clearly not normal weird but paranormal weird. On an island that seems to have nothing paranormal going on, there's nowhere they could possibly be coming from...unless Sid's recently arrived parents have something to do with it. But they're not even witches, let alone known to be capable of whatever this is. So why do they seem to make the dreams worse but their muddy message clearer? SAA - but especially Horatio and the newest associate, Sid - will stop at nothing to find out.

Celia Standing
manages the morale
gives the pep talks
lives with Allison

Allison Hughes
