first-year Bokuto, Ushijima and Kita meeting at nationals for the first time, not facing off against each other but meeting in the halls and striking up an odd sort of friendship, promising each other that they'd come back and take them down properly one day.
third-year Bokuto not even getting the satisfaction of challenging Karasuno in their honour
or something like that

Idk if there is, but I need a fic where through shenanigans, Oikawa and Ushijima essentially just swap teams/friends, and just getting to understand more about the others team beyond what they get to see on court.

Gonna need yall to stop putting Biden is Just As Bad propaganda on my dash. Had to unfollow someone because I don’t want to a start a fight with them over it, but I’m about to bite the next person who puts that shit in front of me.
If you don’t like Biden, vote in your god damn local and mid term elections for third party or further left candidates so that we get better democratic candidates for future elections. But this one is already fucking decided, and I’m NOT ending up under a Trump led dictatorship because yall value protecting your personal sense of moral purity over the collective good. Whether it offends your personal morals to vote for Biden is IRRELEVANT in the face of the alternative.
This isn’t a lesser of two evils situation. One guy sucks. The other guy is LITERALLY PLANNING TO OVERTHROW OUR DEMOCRACY AND INSTALL HIMSELF AS A PUTIN STYLE DICTATOR.
PLEASE look up Project 2025 and stop acting like abstaining is some kind of personal ethical decision!

Funny idea for aoba johsai and Shiratorizawa
I imagine at least one of VB members outside of Oikawa would beef/interact with a Shiratorizawa member outside of games and it coming to a head at like some normal meeting
Like oikawas about to go on his usual rant towards Ushijima and kyoutani just barreling past and knocking down shirabu, them just ripping into each other while the rest of the team is trying to separate them
Even outside of team stuff, just them interacting doing mundane stuff and being petty.

Honestly Karasuno Ushioi could be so interesting to see mostly in seeing how they got there in there in the first place
(Also in this context- Shiratorizawa Kageyama and Aoba Johsai Hinata? It’d be so fun to see)
Ushijima-Oikawa parallels with Kageyama-Hinata
To me, Ushijima and Oikawa are like a tragic parallel to Hinata and Kageyama. If Oikawa had gone to Shiratorizawa then he and Ushijima could've had the partnership that Kagehina had. But because he didn't, they will never know what it's like to make the other feel invincible.
Shipping goggles aside, the parallels have to be intentional (haikyuu is too well-written for it to be just a coincidence): Both Ushijima and Kageyama were framed as naturally gifted volleyball monsters. Meanwhile Oikawa and Hinata believed that they were just average (even though the people around them know that they have their own strengths). Ushijima was the one who kept winning against Oikawa, just like how Kageyama was always ahead of Hinata. Both Hinata and Oikawa went abroad to gain experience so they could finally beat their rival. Ushijima and Kageyama are both awkward, intimidating, and ASD-coded while Hinata and Oikawa are framed as easy-going extroverted chatterboxes. These pairs are literally so similar it's crazy. Look at them and tell me it's not intentional
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It also makes sense when you consider that their playstyles are also complementary. Kageyama and Hinata were a good match for each other because Hinata needed Kageyama's precision and Kageyama needed someone agile to match his own speed. But Ushijima's only requirement is for the ball to be set high and the right distance from the net so it's easy to hit. And which setter is known for dedicating themselves to their spikers, giving them easy sets? Oikawa. They truly could've been a terrifying duo.
I think Furudate was trying to show what Kageyama and Hinata could've been if they didn't team up. They'd still be strong, sure, but not invincible like they were in Karasuno. (as opposed to the Miya twins, who were supposed to show what they could've been like if they had an equal from the very beginning)
But in the end it all worked out for everyone! They all got to play on the world stage together. Ushijima and Oikawa even had their reconciliation at the all stars match (still waiting on the Oikawa-Kageyama reconciliation please please please 👀). They're all happy so I suppose it isn't actually tragic. I just cant help but wonder what could have been if Ushijima and Oikawa learned what it's like to be each other's greatest ally. Hinata and Kageyama were so lucky to have found each other after all.

This makes me want a fic that explores what could’ve happened if Ushijima and Oikawa got to go through the same arc kagehina had or what could’ve happened if they hadn’t reunited in karasuno and gotten to grow together.
But now I’m just imagining a stupid au where for whatever reason, Ushioi end up in karasuno and just learning to be friends despite their pasts and becoming a duo-
Ushijima-Oikawa parallels with Kageyama-Hinata

Shiratorizawa's obsession.
Shiratorizawa's captain's obsession over Seijoh's is well known, but what about the Middle Blockers? Based on an official art (in the 2nd pic).

I’m just imagining another scenario where the rocket just fell over and then starting shooting in their direction, just having to book it as it explodes.
And then it just cutting to all of them being in trouble and their coaches having to be the ones to get them.
Haikyuu Captain Squad Flash Fiction: Miniature Rocket
---
Bokuto comes back from a summer holiday, and one of the first things he does is knock on Kuroo's door. He holds up the box that he's holding - "Look what I got," he says, grinning. "It's a miniature rocket. Apparently it can launch like a hundred feet high. Can you help me build it?"
Kuroo is a little skeptical, but his interest in launching a rocket gets the better of him. Plus, he's pretty sure Bokuto will light a fire if left unattended with this thing.
So he agrees, and they head out to an empty park field that morning to go build the thing. Kuroo likes to think he's pretty good at this sort of activity, but after about an hour and six separate arguements, he throws the piece he was holding down into the grass.
"Dude, this is impossible. We need help," Bokuto groans, flopping into the grass.
Kuroo thinks about this for a moment, before making a call on his phone.
- When Daichi arrives to help, he finds the two boys rather dispairingly stretched out in the grass.
"Why do you think I'll be able to help?" he asks, sitting down with them and beginning to look at the pieces.
"I dunno, you're like, good with this kinda stuff, yeah? Like the building stuff."
Daichi stares at Bokuto for a second before looking at the rocket again, and deciding he may as well give it a go. Unfortunately, thirty minutes of frustrating confusion later and they've made no progress.
"You know who might be able to help?" Daichi says, pulling out his phone.
- Ushijima is next to arrive on scene, standing above them and staring down at the three idiots as they go through the pieces and explain what they think they're supposed to do.
"Are there not instructions?" Ushijima asks, frowning.
Daichi has the good sense to seem embarassed, scratching at the back of his neck before nodding to the other boys. "I just assumed if they needed help there hadn't been any."
"I... didn't check..." Kuroo mumbles.
Ushijima turns to find the box, digging around inside to produce a small folded booklet for instructions.
"Alright, bud," Kuroo calls. "Just tell us what to do and we'll do it."
"I cannot."
"Excuse me?"
Ushijima looks over to them. "I cannot read it. Where did you buy this?"
"Mexico," Bokuto says, prompting Kuroo to plant his face into the grass.
"Give me a moment," Ushijima says, turning away to make a phone call.
- "Alright... so... no, put the long piece... yeah, just connect it in like that-" Oikawa honestly wasn't so thrilled at being dragged out here mid-afternoon, but he hadn't had anything better to do. Daichi and Kuroo are both covered in grass stains by now, but at least they're almost done. "Okay, then- wait, shit, sorry - we're gonna need the wigglymajig back-"
"I thought you knew how to read Spanish," Bokuto frowns, where he's standing over Oikawa's shoulder and pretending he's helping.
"Yeah, everyday normal words," Oikawa replies. "I didn't exactly study my engineering vocabulary, this shit is complicated."
"It's just a toy," Ushijima says.
"You're just a toy, shut the hell up."
Either way, after about two hours of guided help, they have arranged the rocket and managed to get it's innards working to the best of their abilities. They set it up on it's launch pad, and all scramble back the reccomended distance.
"Alright, blast off!" Bokuto says.
Nothing.
"Blast. Off," Bokuto repeats, annoyed.
Still nothing.
"Did we do-"
The question Daichi was about to ask, 'did we do something wrong,' is immediately answered by the rocket exploding into a million pieces, making them all jump and flinch back as it's plastic is scattered in all directions.
