Not the creator. Just a friend.
Inspired by nychta-luxury so check em out
The reader gets transported to Genshin instead of the creator when you were playing on their account.
GN Reader
Creator will be referred to as S/O though you are not dating them.
PT 1
You had actually been the one to introduce S/O to Genshin Impact and had been playing it for a while. And while you were happy, the salt was evident as whenever a banner came S/O would always get the banner character, winning the 50/50 every time.
You'd been playing a lot longer yet S/O has managed to get every character released. What the hell?! Despite this, you and S/O happily played Genshin with one another, bosses never stood a chance at your combined might.
S/O had been getting too into the game recently however and they were now behind in their college classes. In order to properly let them focus you promised to look after their Genshin world while they focused on their studies. Since you had already finished school and worked at a clinic you had enough free time to spare. What a good friend you are.
Imagine your surprise however when you suddenly find yourself on the edge of Starsnatch cliff. You recognized where you were almost immediately. This was all like a dream come true! With a rush of excitement, you ran towards Mondstat only to come face to face with a hilichurl camp. Much to your surprise however they didn't hurt you. Neither did they welcome you. They sort of just stared for a while before going back to whatever they were doing.
Neat. You thought to yourself as you resumed your dash to Mondstat. Arriving in the city of freedom your breath was taken away. The visuals of the game had nothing on this. Something was different though... a big something. The statue of Barbatos in the center of the city was replaced with one of S/O, adorned in lavish clothing and giving off the aura of a god. You stared at the statue deep in thought only for you to be snapped out of your trance when someone speaks next to you.
"It's beautiful isn't it?" The voice remarks. You slowly turn your head to see the anemo archon himself. In disguise of course. You could only nod as you stood there nervously. You'd read stories like this before. How the "creator", a random person would be transported to Genshin, and well... there were multiple routes.
The thing here however was that... you weren't the creator. S/O was. Were you transported here by mistake? You had been playing on their account after all. "Is this your first time in Mondstat? I've never seen you around here before." Venti asks walking in front of you so that your vision would be focused on him. You nod once more and a look of intrigue makes its way on Venti's face before going back to a regular smile.
"Welcome then! Although if you came to Mondstat hoping to meet Their Grace then I'm afraid you've missed them as they've already left for Inazuma." Venti explains though he says something else you can't quite hear. S/O was here?! Did they get- No. You had seen them not long before you got transported. So how could they be here unless... Imposter AU...
"S/- Their Grace was here?" You ask, having to catch yourself and stop from saying S/O's name. You didn't want to make this archon question how you knew so much. "Mhmm!" Venti hums. "We had a large festival to celebrate their stay here. Had you only arrived a day earlier you would have gotten to take part in the festivities! I don't envy your luck."
You let out a sheepish laugh at Venti's remark before excusing yourself and waving goodbye to the Bard. While it was once to meet him and all there was far too much on your mind. Right now you felt you needed to do at least one thing.
Get to Inazuma!

Unreleased & cancelled BL visual novels
Recently I purchased some second-hand BL visual novel magazines, and while reading them, I realized just how many of these announced games were never actually released. I thought it could maybe be interesting to compile a list of these games. I will mention which games were officially cancelled, but the status of most of these games is completely unknown. Perhaps they will still be released one day, but some of these publishers also don't seem to exist anymore. The magazines I used to find most of this information are Binetsu Ouji, B's Log and Cool-B!
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Ouka Otsu - Shinshuu Kikou Senki (【櫻華堕つ) Publisher: Fareastblade This story of this game was supposed to take place during the Second World War. A famous researcher called Dr. Kisaragi Akira made it possible for the Japanese empire to develop cyborgs with super human strength. However, the United States also developed cyborgs and their creator intends to destroy Kisagari's research. Kisaragi escapes and seeks the help of the few surviving cyborgs, who all have their own reasons for helping him even though they don't like him. Part of this game was released as an e-book and translations can be found here. I am surprised the developers stopped publishing information about this project because I frequently saw it in Cool-B. Back then they published a lot of information, CGs and even short stories. Their last blog update was posted in 2016 in which they explained how things have been difficult and they decided to temporarily suspend the project. However, they never returned to confirm when production would be resumed. Secretly, I still hope that this game will be released one day, there's so much content already and it all seems really promising, but the official website doesn't work anymore and the Twitter account was also deleted. Some of the staff who worked on the game did mention how they still wanted to complete the project one day, but it has also been some years since these tweets were posted,
Tumblr media
Angel's Feather Onsen mono Publisher: Blue impact This was supposed to be the third, and final Angel's Feather game. Some Japanese websites mention that the game's staff left the company, which was probably the reason why this game was never released. The magazines mention how the name of this game was just a placeholder name at the time (literally Angel's Feather hot spring story) but I could not find if they ever announced the real title. Some CGs were published in magazines and it looks like it was supposed to be light-hearted fandisc, focusing on the characters spending time with each other and having fun at the hot springs.
Tumblr media
White Shadow Publisher: Blue Impact According to the official website, which can still be accessed through Wayback Machine, the first information about this project was published in Binetsu Ouji in 2004. Similar to the third Angel's Feather game, there's not much hope that it will ever be released because the staff that originally worked on it quit. This means that sadly, Angel's Feather was Blue Impact's first and last BL visual novel series. It was supposed to be a post-apocalyptic story which takes place after a long-lasting war that destroyed most of the planet. Some humans survived, who clung to a small piece of land that had survived the disaster. The people who live could be classified into three types, normal humans without supernational powers, humans who have characteristics of other creatures (for example animal characteristics), and people with strong supernational powers. This game was also featured on the cover of Cool-B volume 2. The regular updates that were posted on the official website make it look like the game was almost finished before the employees quit, so it's really a shame it was never released.
Tumblr media
Torus Zero/ 0 -Torus (トーラス・ZERO) Publisher: CORE This is another one of these games that is mentioned pretty often in older magazines and was also featured on the cover of Cool-B (volume 4). The publisher CORE, became quite well-known in the industry after releasing Messiah, but Torus Zero was the project they originally wanted to release first. Before Messiah was released, they also released another visual novel called Fanatica, which upon reaching the final ending, mentioned how the story would be continued in Torus Zero. Unfortunately some of CORE's staff officially announced that they couldn't continue their projects after a big earthquake struck Japan in 2011. Now there's actually a bit of hope for this project because a few weeks ago, the artist Carnelian, announced a completely new project called Tokyo Gentou/Tokyo Phantasmagoria. In the magazine article it was mentioned that similar to CORE, a new BL game branch called Procyon would be releasing this new game. In an interview published in Cool-B volume 111 they mentioned that they came up with some of these ideas a long time ago, so I do wonder if they will use some elements of Torus Zero in this new game. Originally, Torus Zero focused on protagonist Riku who somehow ended up in a world in which he was the only human.
Tumblr media
Unnamed project Publisher: CORE This game was only slightly teased in magazines and according to old BL game info website BOY-S STREET, the images were only on the website for a short time before it seemed like the entire project was scrapped and replaced with Torus Zero. It was supposed to be a school setting, but the main character is actually a demon and has two personalities.
Tumblr media
Tenrin no Guneval (天輪のグネーヴァル) Publisher: Madalabo/Claw Mark A sci-fi story in which shadow creatures attack earth. Humans with special abilities saved mankind from this crisis. These characters all have their own special ability, some use fire or wind to fight while others can distort space. Technology also advanced, and flying motorbikes called 'Guneval' are used. This game was announced in 2012 and surprisingly the website can still be accessed, however it has been removed from all upcoming game lists in magazines and the last update on the website was only 4 months after the game was originally announced. Other than the usual visual novel gameplay, it was also supposed to have battle scenes in which you could control the main character to fight enemies. I'm kind of sad they never released this game because it seemed pretty interesting! Madalabo is mostly known for their other game Hadaka Shitsuji which seemed to be...the complete opposite of the story described on this game's website. I also really like superhero themes and the art is nice, so it's really a shame it never got released.
Tumblr media
Shokushu Densetsu (触手伝説) Publisher: Madalabo Another Madalabo project that never got released. The title means 'legend of the tentacles' so I think you can already guess what this game is about. In 2011 they released a short booklet with some of the game's concept art, the characters, and other ideas for different future games. You can actually still buy a digital version of the booklet on DLsite here! You might even recognize some of these early concepts, as some of them were eventually used to create Kanja S (Patient S).
Tumblr media
Nihon ni Natta Yoru (2本になった夜) Publisher: HardG.Lab This is… a strange one, the protagonist Taki Naruse is an ordinary university student who's busy with his homework and assignments. One day when he's forced to do a large number of tasks he decides to go to his lecturer to complain, but Taki gets ignored and his lecturer suddenly decides this is a perfect opportunity to check the new drug he has been developing. Long story short, Taki suddenly grows another dick (yep...). His lecturer suggests Taki uses his body to sleep with other men to ''cure'' his condition. I think this game was announced somewhere in 2011 and they published some information about it in Cool-B, but the official social media accounts were all deleted eventually.
Tumblr media
New World Order Publisher: Love Delivery (HolicWorks) "When you die, say hello to God for me". This game was announced in 2015 and takes place in the United Kingdom. It focuses on a young British man called Lyr who works as a pastor at a church. He’s good at material arts and also knows how to use a gun. Together with three of his fellow pastors, he’s on a mission to kill. These are not just normal pastors, they’re professional assassins. I made a separate blog post about this some time ago, so if you want to read more you can find it here! The project was unfortunately officially cancelled in November 2022.
Tumblr media
Heimskringla Publisher: Tyrant (HolicWorks) A dystopian future in which people developed the ability to see when a dead person’s soul leaves their body. The world once fell apart, but was then revided once more. In this new distorted world, humans started adapting to the environment and refugees from all over the world drifted to this country. As a result of this, it became a melting pot of many different races and towns continue to develop their own individual cultures. Five people, with five completely different backgrounds and birthplaces, travel together towards a certain place. There is only one thing all of them are looking for. Death. This game was officially cancelled in 2018, but it's quite hard to find any traces of it because Tyrant's official Twitter account was also deleted. I also wrote a blog post about it which you can check out here.
Tumblr media
Gekka Souei (月下双影) Publisher: NOEL Two childhood friends who became enemies due to unfortunate circumstances. This game was supposed to focus on protagonist Hayate and two groups of shinobi, taking place in a modern day setting. It was quite hard to find information about this game because even with Wayback Machine you can't find much on the website. I happened to find a pretty good image of it on Twitter, posted by a user who happened to save some of the wallpapers back then. A little bit of information about this game was published in B'sLOG and in Cool-B, but only in 2006. Looking at the little bit of information I was able to find on the website, it seems like they had quite a lot of plans and wanted to add roleplay elements to this game too, as well as a SFW and 18+ version of the game. The magazines introduced quite a lot of characters and the interview with the developers (in Cool-B volume 10) mentions that they had planned to create five routes. They didn't really specify which characters, but I assume it's the ones that can be seen in the main visual?
Tumblr media
Psychedelic (サイケデリック) Publisher: LOVE&DESTROY Another game that is not officially cancelled, but the publisher is working on multiple new projects and the official website has not been updated since 2014. The game takes place in Shibuya, Japan and focuses on five good friends who always hang out together. Will these normal days last forever? They promoted this game as being ''all reverse'' so you could choose which character tops/bottoms which is pretty rare nowadays. In 2018 LOVE&DESTROY mentioned that the project was currently 'on-hold' and it's still unknown if they ever decide to create the game.
Tumblr media
Tsukiiro Tanshikyoku (月色譚詩曲) Publisher: Adelta & MonstreCarameliser I think most BLVN fans immediately recognize Kurosawa Rinko's artstyle, who's well known for creating Hashihime and Uuultra C. This game is also not officially cancelled, but there hasn't been any news for years. It was announced in 2018 as a second collab between Adelta and MonstreCarameliser (a year before that they released the short game Umiiro Kyoushikyoku). The website still works, but it was only updated a few times in 2018 and once in 2020. The game focuses on Kaguya, a heir of a certain kingdom (probably some kind of god realm if I look at the names of the characters) who was only interested in women and spending his parents' money. His parents eventually give up on him and send him down to planet earth, in the form of a baby. A young shunga painter (shunga = erotic art) called Takemasu finds him and takes care of him. However, Kaguya grows much faster than the inhabitants of the planet and regains his adult body within a few days.
Tumblr media
Hashihime Fandisc Publisher: Adelta Every time I mention this people ask me if they really announced it, but yes, two fandiscs even! A 'good end' and 'bad end' one. It was announced in 2018, but only mentioned once in a blog post and in Cool-B magazine. It is not officially cancelled but they haven't posted anything about it ever since. It's actually still in Cool-B's upcoming game list, however usually when a game gets cancelled it just one day disappears from the list, without any explanation, so I don't want to be too hopeful. I think it's very possible that it was announced because a lot of other games also have fandiscs so it seemed like a good idea at the time, but Adelta started working on Uuultra C after this and is currently working on their new game Ooe, as well as their original drama CD series.
Tumblr media
No Thank You!! OVA Publisher: parade Not a game announcement, but I still decided to include it. One of the tweets announcing it can still be found here, and no it was not posted on April Fools'… I think it was mentioned again a few months after the original announcement, but it has already been 10 years and they haven't mentioned it ever since.

Thanks to SphereHunter, I learned today that Shu Takumi, the creator and director of Ghost Trick and the Ace Attorney series, was also a director of the two big Dino Crisis games.
And that's just the funniest resume I could image...
-Funny visual novel game involving courtrooms, lawyers, and ghosts.
-Funny visual novel game involving detectives, doggies, and ghosts.

Do you have anything to say about metal gear: survive? It feels like you’d have some opinions on that
Tumblr media
Oh, I most certainly do. As a matter of fact, I'll go off on a limb and say that there is a really good video on the subject which likely will hit more bases than I will in my own... "review," per se. (Granted, the video in question is a little lengthy, capping off at around 40 minutes, but if or when you have the time to, I would most certainly reccommend it.) And the video in question appears to void or ignore several instances which may have proven the creator's points wrong, BUT ALAS.
This is my opinion, not his, so here it is.
For those of you who might not know, Metal Gear: Survive, developed and published solely by Konami Digital Entertainment—and I'll try my best to describe it without sounding ironic or patronizing—was a little more-or-less a... "deviation," from the already-established base of the franchise, for more reasons than just one. However, the star aspect of the game in question which sticks out like a sore thumb above all the rest, would be the fact that you... fight zombies; the gist of the story following that of "the Captain, an MSF soldier who enters a parallel dimension and establishes a local command center to unravel the mysteries of a strange virus that turns people into zombie-like creatures."
Tumblr media
Which, yes, isn't an entirely foreign concept within the Metal Gear franchise at all; given the existence of the Skulls / Parasite Unit within Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, joined with the vocal cord parasites, which—more or less—caused a similar, almost zombie-like effect within infected soldiers... however I believe that within that game—and every other Metal Gear game—such a presence of... idiosyncrasy, so to speak, was at least digestible without necessarily being overbearing. But, within a game like Metal Gear: Survive, it's the entire plot.
In essence, the game was quite similar to the likes of Bloons: Tower Defense, perhaps Clash of Clans... but instead of popping balloons, you're bursting blood vessels at the mere thought of not only having to micromanage platforms and... "survive", but at the cost of having to sit through a near-infuriating, almost comically disconnected story which is so far separated from the source material, that you wonder to yourself; "Is it true that Kojima greenlit such a thing?"
The answer towards which would be: no, he didn't, and even touted its existence in the very same fashion, alongside Yoji Shinkawa, who stated that, "If [he] were to have worked on Metal Gear: Survive, there most certainly would have been mechs [present within the game.]," to paraphrase. Predictably, all of this was entirely out of Kojima's hands—for reasons I'm sure we're all aware of—and thus... inevitably resulted in being a massive mess. Despite its... mixed reception.
Would this game have been better as a standalone, far separated from the Metal Gear franchise in its entirety? Perhaps... but seeing how this game appears to have been created for the sole purpose of... "milking the Metal Gear cashcow"—given how eager Konami Digital Entertainment was to resume production of its Pachinko machines, mobile games... already having brought into consideration throwing Metal Gear into the mix, even before all of this mess occurred—I find that to be highly unlikely, given how this game wasn't necessarily made with... good intentions.
Even aside from its messy production, and the entire... "Kojima v. Konami" debacle, I find that the game's artistic and programming design absolutely, positively pale in comparison to Metal Gear games of old. Which could likely easily be explained by Metal Gear concept artist Yoji Shinkawa's absence in said game's creation... however I find that the game pales in almost every category, not just in regards to its visual design. Even if, that too, is a little...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like... I don't even know what to say, or how to describe this, in complete honesty. And with little-to-no valuable information upon this... creature's Wikia page, much less within the game itself, it seems it would be inconsequential to just pass this off as a hiccup on Konami's behalf. And while this game is non-canonical, and a spinoff, it just... it makes no sense, at least within a Metal Gear-centric context. As well as a visual aspect, and from a conceptual aspect. Both in theory and in execution, apparently.
This, alongside its music and sound design, I find to be appalling and almost shameful, because... even if you've never touched or seen anything out of this game, nor have you desired to so much as poke it with a ten-foot-pole, you can just tell that its music is completely soulless. As evident by the lack of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's primary composer, Ludvig Forssell, alongside several other musicians and composers which have come together over the years of Metal Gear's conception to carefully craft many masterful and memorable pieces we've all come to know and love.
If I asked you to compare these two soundtracks, blindly, which one would you prefer? If I were to give no other description, other than "ALBUM #1" and "ALBUM #2," in your honest opinion, which do you truthfully believe you would fancy better?
ALBUM #1?
Or ALBUM #2?
I'm not so sure about you, but without a shadow of a doubt, I would choose the first album. With the conception of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's music, near-instantly could I pick apart not only rhythms and patterns within Mr. Forssell's writing, but trademarks, of which are near-impossible to miss. I cannot say the same for the music of Metal Gear: Survive; all of which sounds too corporate and generic to have even a fragment of soul within it. As evident between the difference of "Ludvig Forssell," and "FILM SCORE LLC," present beneath each of either album's tracks on Spotify.
Because, as we all know, a very important factor of a video game's irrefutable success is its music; its memorability, its notoriety... being able to hear even a single set of notes from a piece, which near-instantly causes you to point at your radio or device screen and exclaim, "Hey! I know that song!" A very good example of such musical genius being—despite my vices against its base—Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. And even if you've only ever listened to a single song from that game, you'll know that it KICKS ASS, even if you've never once played the game in your entire life. A sort of general consensus that all of the game's "fans" can agree upon.
But, I suppose, at the end of the day, even bad games have their fans, just as horrible, irredeemable villains have their fans. And even if I were to never touch Metal Gear: Survive with a ten-foot-pole, there are people who find it to be entertaining; viewing its punishing gameplay design as a sort of plus, in a way. And, if you were to play the game without thinking too hard about its associations or deeper themes, I would agree with that sentiment. Sometimes, just playing a game to play a game is the better route to take.
And even if that game is nothing more than a cheap grapple with relevancy, all the while remaining false to its home series's pretexts, then by all means: be my guest. Just don't expect me to make a post—as long as this one is—praising the game for anything.

to all my babes out there trying to get a job, got some tips for y'all. i'm updating my resume and realised that what i do might help some people, and not everyone knows about ATS parsing. gonna be long, will add a tldr at the end
so, first things, instead of MS office, i use libreOffice as my document creator/word processor. stop giving microsoft your money - libreOffice is free and open source, and it's amazing. go get it. saves you money too and god knows we need that. but, i'm sure you can do this in publisher too, i just don't know all the buttons
onto techniques: instead of creating my resume in libreOffice's equivalent of word, i use the equivalent of microsoft's publisher - the thing meant for you to make cards and flyers and whatnot. essentially you just pick a size document, and get to throw things (pictures, text boxes, charts, whatever) onto the page where you want them. since it's geared more towards artsy things, it's a lot more flexible with formatting than word (moving images in word? just don't).
essentially, every snippet of information i put on my resume is one text box. each job with its description, each project i've worked on, etc gets its own text box. this is great in a couple ways: it means that if you want to change the formatting of your resume, you can just move around text boxes instead of fucking around with copy/paste all day. the second thing is that when a machine tries to read your resume, internally it'll read that pdf and see blocks of related information that's more precise than giant paragraphs you'd get in word. make your section titles their own text boxes (like experience, education, skills, etc) so they don't get lumped in with the real info.
i'm not gonna talk about "resume words" or "clean formatting" bc tbh i'm bad at that and i think recruiters are dumb sometimes for wanting "no templates, but only format it this one particular way". but get all your info there, arrange it how you see fit, and THEN. then we get sneaky.
in libreOffice, you can name and add descriptions to text boxes. "what!" i hear you say. "that's so weird why would anyone do that!". and i say "well, if a human is reading your resume, it doesn't matter what the text box thinks it is. but it's a machine reading your resume! you want to speak the machine's language." the name is less important than the description, in my opinion, but you can name the boxes too. what you're gonna do is select a text box, click on "format" at the top bar, then "description". and you're gonna add in the alt text box what this text box is. if it's a list of skills, write "skills". if it's education, write "education". this info won't show up visually to a human reading the doc, but it helps machines categorise the data, just a little bit better. in the description part of this, you can also try adding the key words from the job description so the machine sees them but a human really can't find it unless they really look. this isn't something i've been able to test thoroughly, though, so take it with a grain of salt.
i'm still working out all the kinks myself, and picking apart what the ATS does in terms of parsing your resume, but when i started doing this my resume was better parsed whenever i applied to jobs. which, bonus, less retyping your resume into the bullshit job app.
tldr; fuck microsoft, use libre office instead. use libre office's drawings app or ms office's publisher app for ease of use. in libre office, click text box, go to format -> description and add a description of what the text box contains. test and retest your resume in an ATS parser online to make sure the machine reads your resume correctly.
i wish this wasn't how things are, but since we're here might as well figure out hacks. if anyone else has info to add, please please do. it's rough out here.

The association between chess pieces and the main characters of Code Geass (according to me)
Chess is one of the most important elements of Code Geass since the creators used this game to explain to their audience what the philosophy and, by extension, the main convictions were and where the extraordinary strategic skill of its young protagonist comes from. .
Today I would like to explain which chess pieces would best fit the four main characters of Code Geass based on the symbology and the tactical value of the pieces.
If you don't mind, I'm going to use the separators from my fanfic since I established the association there (and, besides, they turned out nice to me), so it's perfectly illustrated.
I decided to give chess a high value for my Code Geass fanfic not only because it occupies a special place in the anime, but because it was so meaningful to Lelouch and functioned as an allegorical representation of my Lelouch's revenge and therefore, the plot of my story, because, broadly speaking, it is a mental battle between Lelouch and Schneizel, in which both are required patience, cunning, planning, analysis, concentration, strategy and deploy pieces (allies) throughout the field.
Said that. Let's go with the most obvious relationships.
Tumblr media
Why is Lelouch the king?
Okay. If we ignore for a moment that Lelouch perceives himself as the king, what does he define within the story as such?
Symbolically, the king represents the player in the game (in this case, it is Lelouch since he is the one who is going to duel with the other king, Britannia). And therefore he is the commander on the battlefield leading his troops to victory. That is the position that Lelouch occupies in the organization of the Black Knights literally. You don't need me to expand on that idea. I think.
It’s the most vulnerable piece and, at the same time, it is the most crucial since when it is captured the game ends. Think of the first Black Rebellion. The moment Lelouch abandoned his army, the Black Knights order lost to Britannia and until Lelouch resumed his post, the order was inactive, even though there were meritorious assets, none could be the king/commander (in chess, this could be translated that pawns can be promoted to queens, bishops, knights and rooks, but never kings).
The king isn't exactly an agile fighter (and Lelouch isn't the most skilled Knightmare pilot, let alone an expert combatant). On the contrary, the king is slow, cautious, calculating and thoughtful (note that the king moves only one square in any direction). Just like Lelouch, the king needs to anticipate its opponent to think and make decisions. The king stays behind because its power lies in devising strategies and leading its subordinates. Hence, the other pieces combine all their efforts to protect it (for a reason, the king is located in the heart of the army).
Tumblr media
We pass Suzaku. Why do I associate him with the Knight piece?
It’s obvious. The Knight not only alludes to "a piece in the shape of a horse's head", but also "a man given a rank of honor by a British king or queen because of his special achievements, and who has the right to be called “Sir’”. Therefore, the Knight represents cavalry. You already know. Those soldiers armed with spears or swords that were mounted on horses. In this case, Suzaku is riding a Knightmare, but he earned his knighthood anyway (Knight of Princess Euphemia, Knight of Seven, Knight of Zero).
The Knight moves in a radically different way than the others, being the only one capable of jumping to other pieces and executing double attacks and checkmating the king, even if it is surrounded by his own pieces. With which we can conclude that it is a dangerous and unpredictable piece, despite the fact that it isn’t more powerful than a rook and queen and is equal in strength to the bishop. You know, I like to visualize Suzaku as a Pawn who was promoted to Knight for loyalty, determination, talent and skill since he started out in the lower ranks of the Britannian army due to "his race" and ended up as knight. That is, he rose in rank, but is still susceptible to receiving orders from superiors. And, well, Suzaku in the first season was the element of surprise in the battle that changed the flow of it and on more than one occasion checked Lelouch.
Something that I also think is worth mentioning is that the Knight can alternate between different colored squares and that makes me think that Suzaku gravitates between the two existing social groups and can’t belong to either: he is very britannian for Elevens and is too japanese for britannian.
Tumblr media
We continue with C.C.
Many people I've interacted with don't think C.C. should be a piece as she is essentially a bystander and she didn't play much of a role in the military.
I respect and understand their point of view. However, I don't think it's wrong to view her as a piece since, regardless of her reasons, she joined the Black Knights and got involved in the rebellion.
So why a Rook? To begin with, what does it symbolize? It is the castle/fortress of the king (it is also considered to represent the battle tanks that invade the castles of the adversaries). With which the Rook has the function of protecting the King from the enemy behind its walls and C.C. has assigned herself the task of preserving Lelouch's survival (which is equivalent to defending him from external threats and those that Lelouch seeks out on her own). Also, C.C. is Lelouch's confidante, so she protects his secrets (of course, she was a lousy confidante: she gave information about Lelouch to Kallen, Urabe and Marianne, who in turn passed it on to Charles; but today we aren’t going to blame her nothing to C.C.).
The Rook has great tactical and strategic power (it is more powerful than a bishop, a pawn and a knight, although not more than the queen). Hence, it’s reserved for the final phase since its position can be decisive in the game (in addition to the fact that it can’t move if its passage is blocked, it is not like the Knight that can hit jumps). In a way, C.C. was a wild card for Lelouch. If I remember correctly, she almost always intervened at the end of battles to give Lelouch time to run away (like the Saitama ghetto skirmish, the Narita battle, the final battle) and that brings me to the next point.
The rook and the king can make a special move called “castling”, in which the king, which moves two squares to the side, and the rook, which jumps over the king and stands next to it, and Lelouch and C.C. often act in tandem (the two operated the same Knightmare).
Tumblr media
Now, why does Kallen get the queen piece?
The queen is the most powerful piece available to the player because it has greater freedom of movement on the board by virtue of the fact that it can move in any direction, which allows it to defend the king and simultaneously attack the enemy. This means that the queen, due to its versatile nature, has an active role and is even more effective than the rook for both offensive and defensive plays (although it is usually used for attacks).
Kallen is Lelouch's most valuable asset as she is the most talented and skilled Knightmare pilot he has in his army. Since the Guren has close range weapons, Kallen's fighting style is highly offensive and opportunistic. Hence she is the ace of the Black Knights. Precisely her skill together with her unconditional loyalty made her the captain of Zero's Squad, which is the squad in charge of protecting him (and, by the way, Kallen is the one who has saved Lelouch the most) .
Something interesting that I found while I was researching chess pieces is that, for the author of the book The Man Who Calculated, Malba Tahan, the chess queen symbolized the people and patriotism (because the queen was able to raise the morale of the people and, by extension, the army). And, even though Lelouch's rebellion is fundamentally a war against Britannia, in principle, his rebellion is the fight for independence of Japan (since it is the first step towards the destruction of Britannia). And can you think of anyone more patriotic than Kallen? She is (the spirit of) Japan (Kallen's first line was literally her reaffirmation of identity: "we're not Elevens, we're Japanese!"). As long as Kallen has faith in Lelouch/Zero, the Japanese people do too (until we get to the Zero Requiem).
Outside of chess, alchemical symbology established that the King and Queen embody man and woman and therefore marriage and that makes me think of the beautiful romantic relationship that Lelouch and Kallen have in the anime.
Also, Lelouch made Kallen the queen of his troop by giving her the nickname "Q-1". What more do you want, Larry?
(By the way, something I did and really liked in my story is that I introduced my Kallen as a pawn initially or, well, that's how my Lelouch envisioned her, but as the story progresses, she learns from her two mentors and her narrative arc unfolds, Kallen is crowned queen).
Well then, that would be it. If these arguments don't convince you, nothing will, so I hope I did!
I had fun writing this and I hope you do too :3 We're in touch!

Everyone on this hellsite has a colorful way of interpreting the "how and why" about Azula's blue flames. Here is mine:
(Disclaimer: I am aware that the show's creators say that the contrast made it easier for the animators and the audience to follow the action, particularly in scenes of fighting her brother. Simultaneously, I just want to poke at this topic because theorizing is fun)
After reading through an interesting take on this subject by @dreaming-in-fire I started giving more thought to the connection between firebending and one's own inner fire, in a way of speaking, which brings me to the point that I was building up to, that being a more flaming approach to the chakra system.
The nuance of the blue depicted chakra(throat chakra), I think is a wonderful resume for Azula's character.
In "The Guru" , we are introduced to Guru Pathik who guides Aang in facing his greatest drawbacks that forbid him from gaining control over the avatar state. But this wasn't about power, as it was in Aang's perception. Instead, it was about reaching a balance within himself that would allow better control over the destructive, volatile manifestations of the avatar spirit in the shaping of his own imbalances.
I believe that Azula has reached this visually stunning performance trough trial and error, honing more accuracy over the years to reach a mastery to express oneself through the hue of her fire. In less delicate wording, Azula's fire is giving away her true self and where shoving her emotions in a box comes easy for the physical body, the soul is manifesting itself trough her element. The guru also mentions, and I quote
"The fifth in the chain is the sound chakra, located in the throat: it deals with truth and is blocked by lies—the ones we tell ourselves"
Azula's major issue, frequently mentioned in "Zuko Alone", is the one and only "Azula always lies". I am adding this point, not in the virulent manner some people do, deeming her a pathological liar accordingly to their armchair expertise. Allow me to organize some of the lies Azula tells herself
1. "My own mother thought I was a monster"
2. "You [Ozai] can't treat me like Zuko!"
3. "Trust is for fools, fear is the only reliable way!"
4. "I'm about to celebrate becoming an only child!"
And these are just a few to be found on the surface of dialogue. I find the idea of Azula healing her chakras to be quite interesting in relation to her bending. Let me know what you think!

Also, I watched Persuasion (yes that cursed Netflix adaption). Admittedly, it is a bit like beating a dead horse, and I think that the review that said that everyone involved should be briefly put in prison until they understand their crimes against literature and cinema more broadly said it perfectly so adding my own thoughts into the mix are perhaps redundant. But I will say I have never watched anything that has made me quite so angry and offended at its complete butchering of the source material.
And I'm by no means an Austen purist - I think some of the best adaptions that have been made of her work has been made when creators have taken risks and not everything needs to be as faithful to its source as 1995 Pride and Prejudice. The diversity of the cast is about the only nice thing I will say about this movie even though its diversity felt incredibly surface level. Plus, Henry Golding clearly ought to have been Wentworth and:
They fundamentally misunderstand and butcher Anne as a character and therefore the most fundamental element of the novel doesn't work
The writers and producers have created as close to a carbon copy of Emma (2020) as they possibly could, not only copying major elements of the visual elements of the movie but also trying to change Anne's character to be more like Emma, completely forgetting the fact that they are two completely different characters
It was also like they saw how the occasional breaking of the fourth wall worked so well in Persuasion (2007) and how popular it was in Fleabag, and decided to just throw it in with little thought or consideration, thereby ruining one of my favourite least-used narrative devices in visual media, making me wonder why I even like it to begin with if it can produce such a travesty as Persuasion (2022). I might exaggerate but only barely.
Absolute garbage use of tension for a story that is entirely too reliant on the maintenance of tension. Anne and Wentworth don't go around checking in re: each other's feelings all the time because they are prevented from doing so at two levels: personal and societal. Completely removing that all together made for a movie with zero stakes and no tension. If they really wanted to ignore everything about the time period, they really ought to have just made a modernisation, instead of whatever cursed halfway house this was.
I could quite frankly write books about all the myriad of ways this adaption was just an utter flop, and I know no one asked for this, especially seeing as I mostly just write about Bridgerton stuff on here, but I just need you to know that WATCHING THIS ADAPTION IS NOT FUN - IT'S NOT EVEN FUN!BAD AND TBH IF YOU CAN AVOID AND WATCH IT LATER, PLEASE DO, BECAUSE I REGRET WATCHING IT BECAUSE NOW NETFLIX ARE GOING TO THINK PRODUCING THIS LOW-LEVEL CRAP IS OK BECAUSE THEY ARE GOING TO GET LOTS OF VIEWERS.
Sorry, I will resume my regularly scheduled programming soon but I just need people to know my pain. This is in my opinion arguably Austen's greatest novel and it's so quiet and delicate and this wonderful exploration of human psychology, relationships, regret, loyalty etc. It also has the most romantic letter ever committed to fiction and to have that reduced to "Now we are worse than friends, we are exes" or whatever the exact line is, is an affront.
