Right, so, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of the original Dungeons & Dragons box set, and the subsequent birth of the RPG hobby. To celebrate, I’ve decided to, over the course of the year, post all of Mayfair Games’ Role Aids products that I own (well, the one’s I haven’t posted yet, anyway — you’ll have to look in the archive for the Demons box sets and module based on the Michael Mann film The Keep). Role Aids was a line of third-party D&D supplements that irked TSR to various degrees for many years and inspired at least one lawsuit; TSR wound up buying then mothballing the brand when they couldn’t sue it out of existence in the mid-‘90s. Profiling these books seems somehow more appropriate a celebration to me, if nothing else because it highlights the importance of third-party creators in the hobby’s ecosystem (there’ll be plenty of official D&D stuff in the feed this year, too, never fear).
Anyway, this is Wizard’s Vale, the first in the series of adventures about Fez, the wizard of time travel. This is the 1987 second edition; the first was originally published in a folder with a cut-out cover that looks more appropriate for a small business’ P&L (as were the first three Role Aids adventures — they’re rare, expensive and I don’t own those). David Cherry did the cover art, Tim Bradstreet and Gerald O’Malley were on the interiors.
The Fez series is pretty well regarded. It isn’t the high point of the Role Aids line, but its still pretty great, funny and horrible in turn. The players use pre-generated characters, but awaken with amnesia and have to recover their memories. They are, as a group, instrumental in a prophecy to defeat Fez’s ancient enemy (Scarsnout the dragon), but that’s in danger of being disrupted by an untimely case of lycanthropy. It’s lightly plotted, moves at a brisk clip and ends with the defeat of the dragon and the culmination of Fez’s saga. Sort of.

Oooh I just started rewatching Twin Peaks yesterday! The last time I saw it was around 4 or 5 years ago. Just putting on the first episode again made me realize how much like home this weird little show feels like to me. It’s been nice to see your enthusiasm for it on my dash :)
may I ask what you enjoy most about the show, or why it appeals to you, if anything comes to mind? I find it’s a bit of an odd one to try recommending to people - I love it, of course, but my taste is a little strange, and I don’t find other fans out in the wild that often.
oooh, that's an interesting question! i think theres a lot of aspects that appeal to me about twin peaks...on a very surface level i love the aesthetics of the show, as someone who lives in new england (pacific northwest and new england are connected pacman-map-style in my mind), the settings and fashion are all excellent. i also love its absurdity, i love the fact that no one talks like a real person and theres people with such weird and distinct archetypes and over the top emotions all colliding with each other---that, and the way it approaches the sort of worldbuilding going on, plus the importance of dreams in the narrative contribute to such an interesting and dreamy atmosphere. i think what makes twin peaks special compared to things that were made after it and were inspired by parts of it is that even when its confusing and strange on a literal level, its always emotionally resonant--you don't need to understand it, because you feel it. the way they're able to set up all the people and relationships in this town so quickly, you really feel like you're a fly on the wall in this living and breathing place, even when its strange. you rarely see how buildings and places connect, but you don't need to because its all so convincing as a woven together location (and of course thats for like logistical/filming purposes, but it creates an interesting effect lol). it uses the familiarity of americana tropes (and even television tropes) and distorts them to create meaning, while still keeping parts of their signifiers intact. even watching it for the first time in 2021 was shocking throughout, so i genuinely can't imagine how it felt catching it live when it was airing, like there was nothing else like it! the fact that david lynch helped to make a prime time television show is something that like logically should never have happened, but i'm so glad it did. i also think on a production/creative level, its so interesting to see how it sort of morphed and developed as the original run and fire walk with me and the return unfolded, like what themes were dropped versus what (at first) insignificant details were given meaning and expanded upon.
i do think it can be a hard sell to convince people to give it a chance--i've had a friend or two try to watch it and say its too slow for them, or it just wasn't clicking. but i've also had more friends really get into it, probably because i have a lot of weirdo artsy friends (i say that with love of course). but i think it's a great gateway into other weird and absurd stuff, or at least it was for me. i also enjoy a good ol "weird thing happening in small town" story, and so it was interesting watching twin peaks and then revisiting stuff that was clearly inspired by it, or at least partially (welcome to night vale, s1 of stranger things...s1 of riverdale. but also i think the return has its own sort of inspiration fuel, like season 4 of barry and beau is afraid struck me in the same way that the return did)

Do you base your Mettaton only on canon or do you have any favorite headcanons borrowed from fandom. Like, do you have any voices (voiceactors etc) that you think are perfect for him?
I'm not just asking about MTT, but about other UT/DR characters as well!
I mostly (try to) base him on canon, although I have so many headcanons about him now that he's basically my own character haha. Mostly stuff taken from my dreams or own ideas tho, I don't really tend to borrow unless it fits my very specific vision that I developed for him. But I do have a few headcanons that I borrowed from others. Like the plug tail. Or that he tastes make-up, nailpolish and hair products to test their quality. Or that his eyes flash red when he's angry. Or that he's aro and pansexual, although idk if I borrowed that.. I think it's actually my own. I just didn't really think about it until I saw other people bring it up as well. Hm. Or that he can feel ALL of his mechanics cause he like. literally became his body. Or that he's ticklish. Those two may or may not correlate. Or cooling fans. Sort of like the ones computers have. As in, instead of blushing his fans start to whirr to try and cool him down. I've seen it in some fanfictions and since it appeared in one of my dreams too it's basically canon to me.
As for the voice.. In Mettaton's case, I got a rather complex, VERY specific headcanon voice for him (mostly based on what he sounds like in my dreams) and I haven't heard anyone sound close enough to it. As for the other UT characters, I conducted a research (stole other people's headcanons basically xD), and made a list of voice(actor)s for them, behold:
Flowey: Kotetsu from Kamisama Kiss (Josh Grelle) Toriel: Kala from Tarzan (Glenn Close) Sans: Patrick Seitz. Papyrus: Alan Oppenheimer Undyne: Lalaco Godspeed from Space Patrol Luluco (Monica Rial) Alphys (not really but eh,): Lara Jill Miller Mettaton (ex) (take with a grain of salt, it's the closest I found to my headcanon anyway): Zarbon from Dragon Ball Raging Blast (J. Michael Tatum) (also James Carter Cathcart kinda) Asgore: King Frederic from Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure (Clancy Brown) Asriel - young: Armin Arlert from Attack on Titan (Josh Grelle) - adult: Xbalanque from SMITE (Josh Grelle)
Burgerpants: Sanji from One Piece Film: Gold (Eric Vale) Bratty: Kobayshi from Miss Kobayshi's Dragon Maid (Lean Clark) Catty: Junko Enoshima from Dangaronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School (Jamie Marchi) Snowdin shopkeeper: Shion Kananomori from Psycho-Pass (Lydia Mackay) Gerson: Kaseki from Dr. Stone (Kenny Green)
They're colour coded so you can see where exactly I stole what from where, and to hear it too, if you want:
Green (timestamps) Flowey - 0:00 Undyne - 2:11 Mettaton - 3:47 Snowdin shopkeeper - 7:34 Gerson - 8:30 Bratty - 9:04 Catty - 9:30 Burgerpants - 10:03 Asriel (adult) - 10:36 Asriel (young) - 11:09
Red Toriel - 0:24
Blue Alphys - 0:22 Mettaton #2 - 0:35 Asgore - 1:32 Papyrus - 2:49 Sans - 3:01
As for the DR characters.. Dunno, I didn't really look into it. When it comes to Spamton, my headcanon voice(actor) for him is Alex Rochon ig. For the others- L Void cuts it for me just fine. Especially for Queen, Susie and Kris. Although for Berdly and Jevil it'd be Revtrosity instead.
I can't bother with links there, too lazy.

Actor Robert Rhodes has been cast as a dragonseed named Silver Denys. A dragonseed is a Targaryen bastard or a descendant of a Targaryen bastard.
Tumblr media
Here are non-spoiler excerpts of that article.
The cast of HBO's House of the Dragon may have gotten a bit larger. According to Redanian Intelligence, the Game of Thrones prequel series has cast Robert Rhodes as Silver Denys for Season 2 of the series. [ ... ] In addition to Rhodes, it was recently reported that Raised By Wolves star Amanda Collin had been cast as Jeyne Arryn, Lady of the Eyrie also known as the Maiden of the Vale. It was also recently reported that Gayle Rankin is playing Alys Rivers, a healer, and resident of Harrenhal, Simon Russell Beale is playing Ser Simon Strong, the Castellan of Harrenhal and great-uncle to Lord Larys Strong (Matthew Needham), and Freddie Fox is playing Ser Gwayne Hightower, the son of Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), brother to Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke). [ ... ] Even with the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, production on Season 2 of House of the Dragon continues. The series is able to continue filming in the U.K. as its actors — who are also from the U.K. — are working under contract with a local union, Equity. The series also reportedly had completed scripts for the season ready ahead of the WGA strike.
It may just be a coincidence, but Denys is the Latin alphabet transliteration of the Ukrainian version of Dennis (Денис). The prime minister of Ukraine is named Denys Shmyhal' (Денис Шмигаль). 🇺🇦
BTW, Robert Rhodes wrote this piece related to the scarring on one side of his face.
If I catch you staring at my scars, prepare for me to ask you why
He seems pretty cool – which makes him typical of HotD cast.

Lana Turner and Juanita Moore in Imitation of Life (Douglas Sirk, 1959)
Cast: Lana Turner, Juanita Moore, John Gavin, Susan Kohner, Sandra Dee, Robert Alda, Dan O'Herlihy, Karin Dicker, Terry Burnham, Troy Donahue, Mahalia Jackson. Screenplay: Eleanore Griffin, Allan Scott, based on a novel by Fannie Hurst. Cinematography: Russell Metty. Art direction: Alexander Golitzen, Richard H. Riedel. Film editing: Milton Carruth. Music: Frank Skinner.
John Gavin was Hollywood's ultimate decorative male, there to look good in bed with Janet Leigh in Psycho (Alfred Hitchcock, 1960) but otherwise to play no significant role in the film. (When he shows up later with Vera Miles, playing Leigh's sister, to find out what happened to Marion Crane, she's the one who does all the work, including the discovery of the mummified Mrs. Bates in the cellar.) It's no surprise that when Gavin died a few years ago, several of the obituaries mentioned the scene in Thoroughly Modern Millie (George Roy Hill, 1967) in which his character is paralyzed by a poison dart: He's been presented as so handsomely wooden that it takes a long time before anyone notices he's just sitting there. He's not quite so inert in Imitation of Life, but that's because Douglas Sirk, like Hitchcock, knew how to make use of him: He's there to hang as nicely on Lana Turner's arm as the Jean Louis gowns do on her body. Unfortunately, this makes for some of the film's weaker scenes, the ones in which Sandra Dee's Susie develops a crush on him, but even there the fault is more Dee's limitations as an actress than Gavin's as an actor. He comes off much better in one of the key scenes, in which his Steve Archer proposes to Turner's Lora Meredith. It works because Turner is skillful enough to make Lora into a woman who knows how not to get trapped by male expectations of what women should be. It's not quite so well-played as the scene in Now, Voyager (Irving Rapper, 1942) I wrote about a couple of days ago, in which Charlotte Vale rebuffs Jerry Durrance's suggestion that she should be looking for a man instead of taking care of his daughter, but that's because Lana Turner wasn't Bette Davis. Still, the scene comes off, and it's reinforced later when Lora is the one who proposes to Steve, after she's gotten what she wanted. The film belongs, of course, to the women, not only Turner but also and especially to Juanita Moore and Susan Kohner, who got the Oscar nominations they deserved. It's possible to fault the film for "whitewashing" by casting Kohner as the Black girl who tries to pass for white, especially since in the earlier version of Imitation of Life (John M. Stahl, 1934), the corresponding character was played by Fredi Washington, who was indeed Black. But even to raise the issue of "passing" in 1959, especially in a film that some considered little more than soap opera, was audacious: The Production Code had long forbidden any treatment of miscegenation. And Sirk artfully turns the issue into a generational one: Sarah Jane's desire to be white as a reaction against the subservience of her mother, foreshadowing a generation gap that would be operative in the coming decade's civil rights struggle. Sirk's films have a way of working themselves into your head unexpectedly, putting the lie to my observation that drama makes you think and melodrama makes you feel. Sirk's melodrama -- Imitation of Life is unashamed of the clichés it exploits and usually transcends -- undoubtedly makes you feel. Is there ever a dry eye at showings of the film's funeral finale? But by confronting the problems that underlie the melodrama it also has a sneaky way of making you think.

I’m happy with BAs having a whole meltdown for the BH memories and VA kiss (courtesy of Betty). They’re timeline is off. They didn’t have a baby, they hasn’t had a love confession even when there has been plenty of opportunities for one already and the engagement party is probably not even BAs but Tangs (ew). All they have now is riding the Tabitha wave and being offended in her behalf because they don’t want to acknowledge that those memories were Betty’s surface ones. Jughead saw their first kiss and that conversation when he did what Archie should’ve done (comforting her instated of making it about himself) memories because those are in the very core that is Betty. They know Jughead reminding the love story he had with Betty (is that’s even the right Jughead because I believe in the cross over theory), they’re in danger. They also know Archie being the only one that can now interact safety with Veronica means something. They know this connecting story lines with the OG couples are going to something and I’m sure Toni will develop powers that connect to Cheryl’s soon. And the theory of this whole thing being another universe is getting more and more accurate by the day. The theory of theses versions of them being from another universe are getting very real really fast and they know it.
All they have now is making the theories about Lili and Cole not wanting to film together when they know the break up sex scene, Jughead’s dream and 605 were all filmed when they were broken up. They would rather make Lili look unprofessional because they also hate Lili. They used to call her all type of things when she would say her preferences on interviews. They’re using the Lili/Cole break up for their own benefit when they are not the first and only actors that have broken up off screen that have to do romantic scenes (Nina and Ian from TVD. Katie and Joshua from Dawson’s Creek). Even Camila and Charles have broken up.
I am smiling because the story line is going exactly where I theorized it would. BH having to remember Vale to save the universe again is going to come up. I don’t feed myself of delusions, i watch the WHOLE episode not only scenes on YouTube and I don’t trust biased reviewers/writers that have not true input on the finishing product. BAs excuse when they feel threatened is going for Lili/Cole and projecting things onto Lili who’s a profesional actress. They’re losing it.
Also the cuddling during prom was when they'd broken up. Strangely, they seem to have no comments about Veggie, tho it was all filmed after Camila and Charles had broken up. Odd that the theory doesn't apply to them.....
In any case, they're professional actors, who probably have less trouble separating their personal lives from their jobs than some BA fans....

WTNV quick rundown - 38 - Orange Grove
Welcome back, the 3 or so people who give me a like on these things, I see you, I love you (platonic) , hello.
You take the good. You take the bad. You take them both, and there you have spiders crawling out of a red velvet cupcake. Welcome to Night Vale.
John Peters (you know, the farmer?) reports an absolutely amazing crop of various oranges this year. He is looking for a particular orange that holds secrets to what is behind the old oak door he found in the desert. Anyone who touches his oranges begins to blink rapidly in and out of reality.
*Cecil asks Carlos (his boyfriend, the scientist -wink- ) about the oranges, since oranges are not native to a desert climate. Carlos says he doesn't study nature or plants, just science. He does confirm that it's very unlikely John Peters grew an orange grove at least naturally.
Despite this, the Ralph's now only sells JP's oranges and juice made from those oranges. Adam Bair, who works there, is seen taking endless oranges from his pocket.
Intern Maureen tells us that JP has actually been gone for 4 months now and was last seen by Dana (who is also gone, and still able to text him despite being without a phone charger or able to pay her phone bills for 8 months) so it's unsure where JP even is. Carlos clears this up by confirming that JP is in the House That Doesn't Exist so the JP in NV is not the real JP. Intern Maureen then drinks some of the orange juice and starts to flicker in and out of reality until she finally completely disappears.
'John Peters' (you know, the imposter?) then appears in the studio and attacks Cecil. He tries to get Cecil to eat an orange and Cecil unsuccessfully tries to talk him down. So instead, he smacks him with his phone which enough to knock Not-JP out (after Cecil decides that texting an assurance to Carlos that if he doesn't come home it's because he doesn't exist any more, not because he doesn't love Carlos or want to hang out tonight).
The SSP start to arrest not-JP, but Strex stops them. Daniel gives Cecil a disapproving smile. Strex has the majority stock in the orange juice (which has also taken the carpet where it was spilled) and is recalling it and all related products due to -dark red smudge-.
Weather: "Black White and Red" by Emrys Cronin soundcloud.com/emrys-cronin
Cecil and the real JP apparently hang out sometimes, being in the same bowling league, Cecil attending JP's old wood shop class, standing silent and trance like in front of the Ancient Chalk Spire (predecessor to the Brown Stone Spire) with their mouths frothing, minds spinning and ventricles showing - you know, fond memories.
*“As far as your other question goes, let's stay home tonight. We ate out last night. Plus, there's a new documentary about scatterplot matrices on Netflix I've been wanting to see. Also The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is on TBS again. We could re-watch that. I'll make pasta, if you can pick up some-” Et cetera et cetera. Carlos goes on about weekend bowling plans.... You don't need all this. Okay I think that's all he had about the orange trees. I do hope we watch Liberty Valance, though. I love that film. Awww~ however they end up not having pasta, instead there is left over falafel and an unopened bag of nutmeg seeds to snack on. Carlos ends his text with 'xoxo' AWWWW
He also ends it with a curiously detailed emoji of a two dinosaurs chasing a car.
Cecil apologizes for saying that anything is objectively real, as our perceptions of reality and things being real are only personal.
'Stamps.com. You live in a dying world. We love you.'
It is confirmed that City Council does not go by 'they/them' because they are non-binary, but because they are literally many people/entities merged together or a hivemind. They argue with each other when a smokescreen trick they try to use to get away because they are 'just can't be here any more' fails, instead of speaking in unison as usual.
And for now, let me make my own special announcement: Cecil Palmer would like to not be late for dinner. Stay tuned next for an hour that will feel like minutes but will in actuality take weeks. Good night, Night Vale. Good night.
Proverb: A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single command from a satellite-activated mind-control chip.

Glenda Jackson and Patrick Magee "De Sade is Whipped," from Peter Brook’s Filmed Version of His Production of the Peter Weiss Play “The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade” (Marat/Sade), the Royal Shakespeare Company 1967
This scene is more Magee than Jackson, but she's still great in it. It's also one of the more kinky scenes in 1960's British theater.

Dedicado a meu amigo, você sabe quem.
Olho no olho?
Perdoar?Seguir amando- a?Sim!Mesmo diante do sangramento...
(Making of, Náufrago – DVD duplo, 2000, 00:02:44).
