Re-watched Mountie and Soul for fic research purposes, and I just really love the buildup to the motb conflict. It's so fascinating to watch because Ray feels So Much and expresses that, while Fraser keeps his emotions at bay - he's stoic. Not only that but it's so interesting to watch their cultural differences play out, because Ray - while being emotionally intelligent - is still in this American Macho mindset. Fraser's still in his arrogant 'I'm Canadian so I'm smarter than Americans' mindset. And we know over the course of the show they both break away from those things. (Seriously love how Ray's already getting under Fraser's skin and Fraser gets that 'you are such a dumbass but I'm restraining myself from screaming' tone. And Ray saying he's gonna pop him one and Fraser not wanting to hit Ray - foreshadowing)

I also found it a little heartbreaking in that scene when Ray's getting beat up by Mason it's supposed to be a joke, but to me it looks like Ray's coping mechanism is pain? Like, there's a running theme with Ray where a lot of the ppl he trusts betray him or leave him. Hmmm... perhaps that's why he and Fraser get along so well?

thinking about maybe mark never apologizes to eduardo but he never. he never tries to shift blame. the only times he blows up are a) when eduardo's lawyer insinuates he was jealous of eduardo (and that mark was plotting against eduardo from the beginning) and b) when eduardo's lawyer was checking how much money eduardo invested in fb and mark stopped her to check her math. and Both of those times were just directed toward the lawyer. in fact the only thing mark ever says to eduardo during the deposition (unless i'm forgetting something) is "oops" when it's revealed that mark tried to stop his lawyers from bringing up the chicken after eduardo accused him of bringing it up. and yeah that bit was angry, but kinda understandably so cause mark was genuinely trying to do a good thing

so i mean. i mean. does he know? he has to know that he's in the wrong here. he's not even fighting it. it's like he's Accepted it's his penance. like take his arguments with the winklevii. he argues against the suit Twice, loudly and very dramatically. but against eduardo? nothing. he just sits there and takes it.

even at the end when marilyn talks about settling, mark seems surprised, but only because she's talking about the winklevii. mark is angry that he has to settle against connectu...but not against eduardo. eduardo isn't even a question. he probably always intended to give him whatever he asked for.

I am so good with words but also so bad with words. Like my brain thinks in wordless concepts and meanings and feelings and senses of spatial blobs/forms/existences that correlate to and embody the prior things, and that all has to be translated into words.

and on one hand, it lets me make connections and associations that a lot of people wouldn't make, bc the connections and associations are through pattern and feeling and abstract sense/meaning rather than words and "concrete" definitions. And it also leads to what i think is an interesting nontraditional way of speaking/explaining/conveying stuff bc a lot of times, mixing registers and sentence structures and blurring definitions just conveys what I'm thinking Better, so its what ill gravitate towards. And while it can lead to sounding Too Formal in some situations and Too Informal in others, I do like it and think it's neat.

But on the other hand, translating thoughts into words in a way that's understood and that actually accurately depicts the source thought(s) takes so much fuckin time and effort and just makes my brain lock up a lot, esp when it's not just simple casual conversation stuff.

Language is a puzzle I can be very good at but it's still a fuckign puzzle
