//long rambling
There is a vent in the last part (about pro ship:/+ wired shipping + block list) it's naturally negative so reading at your own risk.
So in the new Batman and Robin issue #7 Nika's sister making an appearance, got me thinking of other possibilities for sibling characters to come back.
Mostly I’m thinking about Respawn since he is Joshua Williamson's own character. And He made Respawn appeared in the last issue of Robin(2021), he also brought back Mara in that run too (just some appearance in the later issue).
And now Joshua Williamson is writing Batman and Robin, so naturally he can bring some characters back in this run. He had said in an interview that he might have figured out a way(try) to bring back Maya.
Tumblr media
Throwback to 2022 of this old wip/art I made, is about what I think the emo teens of Lazarus squad dynamic would look like.
I imagine Nika and Respaw are irritated/tolerate with each other but would stay for Damian because Nika is Damian's girlfriend and they want to stick together. Meanwhile, Damian likes to include his half-brother in some fun activities (Respawn is acting reluctant bc of his own issues but he actually likes to have friends and feel include).
I haven’t finished this art bc I was going to add more wips (with other characters like Rose and Hawke) to make it a post. I didn't finish this art back then bc I was afraid Talia fans would be mad at me for drawing Respawn.
Trust me, I hate that Talia gets associated with Deathstroke like this, but I think Respawn is a confused/mistreated teen character and Damian (bless his heart and soul) still wants to be his brother regarding the whole mess. I will explain/talk more about my thoughts on Respawn as a character and his situations once I finish these drawings and get ready to post them.
Writing/typing words is harder than drawing for me personally. Drawing is like channeling my energy into a picture and forming an atmosphere and hopefully people will understand what thoughts and feelings I was trying to convey. Writing is using more brain powers to choose the correct and cohesive words, so people would not misunderstand what I'm talking about. Especially when English is not my first language, and even so I normally don't talk(write) much in my mother tongue either…(I'm not a quick thinker, it took me a longer time to think things through, writing literally exhausted me physically and mentally more than drawing.)
It doesn't mean I don't enjoy writing, it's just not my first choice to convey thoughts… but considering I can't draw everything I have in my mind and it takes even longer time to finish any art, I just need to write down things first from now on. Tumblr is the only place I can think of that has this longer text feature blog post and I'm more familiar with this platform format. So I will still be here posting my fan content.
.
(↓Vent, if you want to avoid being block by me then read down below.)
I must say I will forever hate respawn x flatline as ship, cus I know who started this ship and their reasons behind it—Don’t let the new character develop naturally as the story goes, let’s put them in made-up weird situations first so I can prop up my own ship!😍 And get both of the new characters out of the way, since no one would defend them so I can fanon the hell out of them by making them look bad all around!🤞 (What if I stone you first hand🪨🪨💥)
And I will continue to dislike/against any shipping Damian's sibling to Nika. I simply don't like the unnecessary sibling conflict just for romance tropes! So go away boooo I hate you‼️ Not to mention the ignoring of different age range multi-ship hide behind poly… that's straight up proshipping I hate you even more!!👎
Also for people who said Nika should be crush on Damian's mother instead of him… I hate you twisted proshipper rotten smooth brain‼️‼️ She dating a boy her age and has mutual connections with him, why would she crush on her boyfriend's mother instead?? Just because Nika is a big fan of Talia??? So you telling me young ppl can't idolize adults normally without being labeled as romantic nowadays huh??( Not saying you can't crush on adults, but why crush on your boyfriend's mom? ) Your weird ass mind is showing with this ass hc be fr. Again, why would you imagine that? You just wanted to push a fake narrative of Nika being wired so you could have an excuse to make Talia and Damian dislike her (which is not true), but in fact is YOU are the weird one projecting your twist thoughts/hate onto Nika‼️💥🪨🪨
I will start to block ppl who are shipping/liking respawn x flatline (+proshipper) and STILL interact with me, read the room!! My art is not for you weirdos‼️Go away BOOOO💥 🪨🪨🪨💥💥
Can't believe I need to type this all out cuz some of you weirdos will still do these things and think is okay to interact with me and my post/showing in my notifications BOOO👎🪨🪨💥🪳🪳🪳🩴🩴🩴
(sorry for venting about random weirdos/Nika haters again, and thanks for reading.)

Sea of Stars
Tumblr media
I beat Sea of Stars in 29 hours, which is a sweet spot for me. Games that run longer than 30-40 hours tend to fall into the unfinished pile because I feel an unreasonable compulsion to do side quests and feel incomplete if I don’t do them, even if I’m not enjoying them. Such was not the case with this game, which was fun to the end for me!
Sea of Stars is a well balanced retro style RPG about two magic sky children who have trained to be warriors battling the powerful and morally bankrupt Fleshmancer who has taken over their world with some evil beasties. And of course the story includes the dozens of friends they make along the way, including a few additional party members that you can cycle through during combat. They all have individual motivations for fighting, but in the end they all come together to help each other save the world… and also collect a bunch of rainbow shells so they can build a spa in the village they founded!
Leveling is integrated into the storyline, although it’s well worth it to do the extra quests to get the best weapons in the end game. There is a lot of story in this game, and I thought I was reaching the end twice before I actually did! I haven’t gone back to check out what I unlocked after beating it yet, so there’s still more to see. I didn’t expect it to be as long as it turned out to be, but the story was engrossing the whole way through
Tumblr media
I enjoyed the characters, there are some really fun personalities that join your group along the way. I especially loved Garl, the Warrior Cook, who is supposed to be super lovable, and Seraï, the assassin who has a lot more going on as a character than you initially think. There is a twist in the middle of the story that was particularly emotional, and I’m looking at the fan art on here and thinking about how affected some fans are going to be!! It surprised me and made me realize how attached I’d gotten to the characters
I didn’t run into the glitches that I saw some reviews reporting, and I didn’t find the controls as cumbersome as others have. I did not love the rhythm based attacks and tended to avoid them as a result, but some people will enjoy that element spicing up the turned based combat. The puzzles were generally fun, and I only got stumped by a few of them, usually because I didn’t notice environmental triggers I needed to interact with until I looked up a hint. It felt well balanced between combat encounters (which were not random, thankfully) and puzzles as you progress through the dungeons
I’m kind of hoping for a sequel, honestly, the worldbuilding they’ve done would easily accommodate it. It feels like more than a throwback game thanks to the updates they made to the traditional game mechanics and the uniqueness of the characters. While it employs many of the familiar hallmarks of old JRPGs, the creators are also poking some fun at the tropes it’s engaging with
Tumblr media
It’s free on Game Pass and PS Plus, so if you already have either of those, you can try it there! Or if you add it to your wishlist and wait for a sale, it’s a great choice if you’re in the mood for a fun and well-paced retro game. I don’t think $34.99 is a bad price for it, to be honest, I enjoyed it more than some $70 AAA games I’ve played ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So, I finally watched the Archer finale..
WARNING. SPOILERS AHEAD FOR INTO THE COLD!!!
So, Archer has come to an end. Its a lot for me to process, this is a hard one for me, the past 6 months have been exclusively Archer for me, I've fallen so far for a fictional character. I'm going to try my absolute best to collect all of my thoughts in one post for this. I'll try not to spoiler too much. But I think this is necessary for me so I can help process this loss for me.
To say I'm happy is an understatement. I'm beyond relieved and grateful we got the proper Archer ending this show so badly deserved. The season 14 finale was a disgrace, and the way it could have ended would have been tragic. This show ending is tragic enough, but thats just my view on it. Hyperfixations are hard ya'll.
I think the way they ended the plot for this show was very cleverly done. While I don't think Adam Reed would have went in this direction, I'm still satisfied with what the writers did. Seeing everyone band together was wonderful, and there were a couple twists I wasn't expecting at all, but it goes without saying, nothing can be perfect.
Some initial thoughts, pros and cons if you may, but not really.
The growth the characters go through is really really cool to see, notably Archer. When he says he doesn't need to know who his father is, that's a huge milestone and a step towards some emotional maturity. Sterling has so much trauma and is overall a very impulsive character, but letting him have his moments of clarity is always nice to see. There is a good balance between his impulses and realizing that his actions have consequences. I don't think there was any way Slater could have been saved in the end anyways.
There was no main focus on any specific character. Every main reoccurring role in the show got their own moments in this finale, which I am super grateful for. Season 14 had a hard time dedicating specific episodes to certain characters like in the earlier seasons, so this finale did a great job at giving everyone a bit of spotlight.
Focusing on the main characters instead of random one off characters was super cool and something I appreciate as well. Katya, Barry, and Slater were all characters who made the biggest impacts on the show by far, not to mention they're also fan favourites. But seeing Rip Riley was super exciting as well!
The early season throwbacks!! In the elevator shaft you can see the old ISIS sign and an old Cherlene album :3 If there was anything else I probably missed it as there was a lot of clutter, but I always get so so excited when there's early season callbacks. It shows that's the writers really do care about these characters and their stories. I was happy to see Milton!! Milton supremacy!!
The ode to Malory was wonderful, I'm so so happy they did that. Lana's speech at the end was a good way to wrap everything up for the crew.
There isn't much to say negatively, these aren't necessarily things that make this finale bad, just things that made me sad and were a surprise to me that I'm not sure how I feel. This is completely opinion biased and you can disagree all you want!
Slater dying. I'm really sad that one of my favourites ended up dying. I loved the very erotic moments between Slater and Archer and their initial fight was really intense and fun. But seeing Slater die wasn't really all that satisfying for me, except it allowed Archer to grow more and let go of some of that trauma. RIP Slater </3 You were a son of a bitch
Morphing Barry and Katya.. This is a weird one for me. I'm not sure how I feel about this at all. I guess the only fun thing I can say about this is that we got some fun classic enemies to lovers. I dont particularly LOVE that trope, but with making Katya a antagonist, it was quite the choice.
The settings.. I think it was fitting to have some of the settings back in Russia, but Rio was quite the random choice. There was a lot going on and at one point I kind of got confused as to where everyone was at one point, in one scene they're at the Agency, the next they're in a safe house, the next they're in some other random area, that was a bit hard to follow, but a lot happened in an hour, and there was a lot going on. The title "Into the Cold" was clever. Also I hated the whole crypto thing. That genuinely felt like a cheap cop out for some plot holes. Cyril doesn't seem like the type of person to be interested in crypto as one would figure he'd be pretty knowledgeable on how that stuff is shitty. If Lana saw those mines you know she would lose her mind LOL
Overall, I am happy with how things were wrapped up. I was very worried near the end because we hadn't seen AJ at ALL, or had any mention of her, so seeing the scene at the end with her and Sterling made me really happy, knowing that Archer kept in contact with Lana but not anybody else really stung, but Sterling saying he "hates goodbyes" really stuck with me after this finale finished. Saying goodbye to this show is not easy whatsoever, I have such a strong connection with these characters and cast, and my love for Cheryl is eternal. Its hard for neurotypical people to fully understand, and this is a grieving process for me, but I have the support and friends to help me through this, and I will always have these guys around, since I can rewatch this show as many times as I want. I will continue to make content and hopefully start writing more maybe. This world is so expansive and so many things can be done as it falls on the line of realism, slice of life, and science fiction. I love everything this show had to offer, and I'm so grateful for the dedication and work that went into this show.
If you read this far for some reason, thanks for reading.

Things that *got* me in my first DBH playthrough
1. In the hostage chapter, when Connor takes a hold of the family photo and scans it. His face and demeanour. Amazing.
2. Connor getting shot in the arm and looking up with no expression asjhdjiajkd
3. Connor WALKING AWAY EMOTIONLESS from the girl he just saved.
4. When I walked into Carl’s studio for the first time I teared up at the visual. The curtains opening up were so beautiful.
5. When Alice gets struck by Todd. (Actually, this was a negative Got but I’m adding it to the list.)
6. When Markus didn’t rip out the heart of the woman android in the Veta pit and he does a little defeated fist on her chest as he stands.
7. THE AUDIO PROCESSOR AAAAAAAAAAAAAA I almost CRIED when Markus got his hearing back. It was amazing.
8. The hero shot of Markus standing up in the rain and looking down. Absolutely epic. Kinda slutty but also badass
9. When Markus arrives in Jericho and he has to shake the torch active. I had to shake my mouse whilst holding both clicks, but it felt like I was actually shaking the torch.
10. Similarly, when Markus was in battle at the end of the game, I was fighting a bunch of humans and stuff and the controls were all different, but then I had to kill someone and I kept having to hit A. A. A! A! And it really felt like I was smackin the person down. Just the shift from random keys to a repeating key was brutal.
11. I messed up Kara’s escape from Connor so I chased her across the highway. I LOVED IT ALL. Connor sliding across the hood of a car Got me, as well as Kara yanking Alice back and forth. I was screaming across the highway. (I was streaming my playthrough so---) And then Connor hissing, “Shit.”
12. This quote Got me: “Why did they make you look so goofy and give you that weird voice?” (I didn’t like Hank before this point, but when I heard that, I immediately forgave him because what a PISSER of a line) 13. And then this topped it off: “Well, they fucked up.” (CACKLING, GET ROASTED CONNOR)
14. The scene before the main events of Freedom March where Markus is at the outlook. And there’s a piano. I cried so hard. I played the piano at Carl’s when I started and I thought it was a beautiful throwback.
15. Any time I looked in a mirror as any character. Threw me into a crisis.
16. The emotionless, no-grunting, fighting between my Connor and fake Connor Got me.
17. Wading through the blizzard as Connor at the end of the game Got me.
18. I crossed the river as Kara, but when the control boats started shooting, I knew what would happen if I hid. I hid anyway. I knew it. I think I just knew the trope or storytelling pattern or something, but it was the choice that Got me, not the aftermath.
19. Markus climbing Stratford tower Got me, especially with RISE displayed on the major screen paired with the epic music. UGH yes
20. When Connor fought the red haired Traci and her high heel clacks on the ground when she swing over him. It’s the camera angle and sound. Another trope I think, but I was VIBING hard
21. Connor fighting the two Tracis at once. That was so intense for me. I was like oh SHIT he’s FIGHTING TWO ANDROIDS. He’s one android. I’m thinking at the time damn boy if you were all deskinned you would all be pretty much the same and he’s fighting TWO. And they SLAM him into the wall??? I was Got
22. Also when Connor is fighting red haired Traci and she marches towards him. Camera angle & facial expression. Amazing
23. Connor running for the first time when I’m chasing Kara>>>
24. Markus in the WM400 uniform HOH
25. “You look lost” and then reveal the WR600 HOH sorry but I was stunned---he is My Type of Appearance and his disposition/behaviour---okok, my crush. (Because I was streaming this I also have my voice captured in real-time being weak HAHAHAHA)
26. “Holy shit,” says Hank as AN AMAZING SOUNDTRACK IS PLAYING AND CONNOR IS ON THE TRAIN TOP CHASING AFTER THE DEVIANT AND SNAPS HIS ATTENTION UP---
27. Literally the whole chase in The Nest tbh
28. The Hank and Connor hug at the end
29. The android who was tied to the back of a car because his humans “just wanted to have some fun” Got me
30. The music in The Interrogation
31. Also Connor creeping around in the attic Got me, but only when he ducked a certain way
32. TWENTY-EIGHT STAB WOUNDS
34. The “CONNOR! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?” interaction
35. Slapping Hank awake
36. Hank immediately sobering up in the bathtub and being like “What the fuck are you doing here?”
37. Connor teasing Hank about the Eden Club case also Got me
38. When Kara checks the dryer for clothes in the laundromat.
39. “Will we be together forever?” - “Forever.” Not even another option. Got. (I stayed in the car overnight.) And I quote myself from my recording: “...Well, I’ll be together with Alice for as long as she lives. I’m not sticking around a grave when she’s ninety somethin’ years old.”
40. “We’ll be together forever, won’t we Kara?” - Alice in Jericho after I found out she’s an android. MEGA Got, because of my mindset above ^. And I was like oh man yeah forever ;__;;
41. Chloe asking to leave. And I let her.
42. Chloe asking me not to continue, to just leave things as they are for the sake of peace. I accepted, but then I continued after waiting a little bit.
43. The first time I was parkouring with Markus was really noice.
44. In The Nest when Hank is at that stand-up table and the burger guy is like “Don’t leave that thing here” and Hank’s like “Don’t worry it follows me everywhere” and Connor has to walk over to him and on the way there and Hank says “See?” That REALLY Got me.
45. Also in The Nest, when Connor says something along the lines of “Maybe we should go take a look...” and his eyes drift to the side, then snap back onto Hank.
46. In Zlatko’s house when I’m regaining my memory after failing to escape the machine, the corrupted memory I thought was just random letters but after about 4 pieces of info they started to look like words, and that Got me.
47. This wasn’t a Got moment but in ‘Russian Roulette’ I didn’t see the gun until it was my last clue to scan and I was Shook.
47. When I got to choose Hank’s clothes.
48. When I stroke down with my mouse so Markus can take out the circle of glass he cut out from the window in Stratford Tower.
49. The moment before we smash into the CyberLife store, Markus is sitting in the truck and I have to press W. That camera angle switch from W to YEEEEE is amazing.
50. When we approach the crowd as Markus and the crowd splits revealing the kneeling cops. The dead bodies on the way there Got me.
51. “CyberLife’s last chance to save humanity... is itself a deviant.” “I’m... I’m not a deviant.” HOHHHHHHHHHHH
52. The option unlocking for Connor to become deviant.
53. Then Connor starting to tear down his walls. & the soundtrack paired with this moment.
54. Then [ I AM DEVIANT ]
Bonus: I distinctly remember very clearly thinking “oh great another sci-fi game with an average-looking white guy as the protagonist” and I have never been so wrong. The switch of opinion happened so fast. From the elevator to picking up the photo frame was like OOP---

5, 10, 11, i could be wrong i could be ready
wow, a throwback!!
5. What part was hardest to write?
i'm gonna be honest, i'm so sorry, i do not remember. i wrote it so long ago!! i do have vivid memories of writing parts of it on my phone in my shitty ex-roommate's too-small car while we carpooled to work so those parts were probably not the easiest to write 😂
i can say with confidence that the hardest part of POSTING it was all those damn emojis in the texts. ao3's text editor didn't support emojis at the time, so i had to upload and code in an individual image of each one. i periodically think i should go in and replace the images with real emojis now but i think i'm too lazy.
10. Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?
oh, i was so enamored with them at the time, i just chose them because i wanted to write something cute and tropey and fun for them. i loved alex's obvious crush and their little pulling-pigtails-on-the-playground dynamic, and i don't think there was much fic for them at the time, so i decided to be the change i wanted to see in the world. the agally/jacob part of the fic was inspired by this picture of them on a plane for world juniors:
Tumblr media
i can't explain that choice any further other than i just adore jake trouba and the vibes were right 😂
11. What do you like best about this fic?
the fake dating!! it was such a fun trope to write. the public displays of affection slowly bleeding over into private spaces, the slow erosion of boundaries, the is-this-real-or-for-the-bit of it all. i thought that last part especially worked really well with the gallys' dynamic, and the added layer of "we're not going to SAY we're [fake] dating, we're just going to cause deliberate speculation" added a really fun dynamic. i have said "fun" too many times in this answer but i have also had two (2) eggnogs and forgotten any better adjectives, sorry

Final episode prediction: HAVEN’T SEEN EPISODE SPOILERS. Apparently I accidentally privated this earlier when I fixed my tags, but I originally posted this before the episode
I think the episode will do something to address Eddie’s sexuality. Since that’s a big point of anger for KR, and he’s going on dates, it would make sense for it to come up or something to be implied. They see what people say about Eddie online and know they have the power to encourage or end it so easily. While I do ship Buddie, and think it’s the best conclusion for their characters, I firmly believe they’ll pull as far in the other direction as possible since the writers likely know how much people analyze stuff, I wouldn’t be shocked if Buck and Eddie have zero scenes discussing his dates. I can almost hear the writers being like “If we have Eddie say anything about x, people will think y means Buck and Eddie are a couple.” Which the showrunner doesn’t want. [Throwback to the construction on sunset thing]. And since the GA doesn’t read into chair placement, shirt colors, or baking soda… because that’s… wow, anyway, because they don’t, what happens in this episode will be seen by them at face value. Eddie is on a date with a girl, he’s romantically interested in girls, he plans to be with a girl. Because there’s never been hard evidence for the GA to think any other way, therefore this episode will push the GA even more into “Buddie doesn’t exist, look at Eddie” territory. I also think all Eddie’s dates will be Latina because the show is very very into him only being with Latinas after Shannon. I know I said I think the girl in the previous promo was his endgame, but now I think she’s setting up his endgame. He was disappointed in being shut down without a choice, he realizes he is open to dating for real, and that’s how they introduce his love interest. It’ll be on the heels of her, because of what Eddie experienced. Classic tropes never lie, it’s still subversion of expectation because he went to shut her down, she shut him down, he realizes he wants a relationship after all and while I do really think it could be with this girl, but I did think she was Marisol, but apparently she isn’t (I didn’t see any spoilers, just the actress and she looks like different actress) so they’ll still have to do that whole thing if that’s still happening. Which means, not endgame, but on the path with everything I’ve said in previous posts being still mostly accurate.
Buddie is still the most logical answer to Buck and Eddie’s futures, but ughhh it’s really annoying that the show doesn’t want to adapt to viewer wishes like other shows do. I’m not saying everything people want, but they’d lose very little and gain so much more by putting the guys together. Could’ve been monumental… but I’m losing hope. I’m so so hopeful I’m wrong about Eddie and his dates. Like I’m really hoping this episode ends and I’m grabbing for my clown makeup again. I just don’t know if I trust the show right now.

Moon glow intersects with street lamp to back-light the fountain, lending it a strange halo. Beyond it, all she can really grasp are two hazy silhouettes, both coiled with tension, paused there in the gloom of the night park for longer than she expects.
Her own pulse thrums, rabbity, in her fingers, and her guts sink at the prospect of her innermost thoughts being read out before a court or before Congress, let alone before an entire nation.
A gust of wind tosses her hair into her eyes, and she pulls her trench coat tighter around herself as she waits.
Josh was right — it is getting colder — but that’s not why she shivers.

Late Night with the Devil Review: A Deeply Disturbing and Unique Watch
Tumblr media
The challenge for filmmakers is to forge a new path or rekindle the sparks of horror's past in fresh, compelling ways. With Late Night with the Devil, directors and writers Colin and Cameron Cairnes tackle this challenge head-on, offering a tantalizing mix of horror, suspense, and a nostalgic throwback to 1970s television. This film manages to carve out its own niche within the genre, leveraging the talents of David Dastmalchian, Laura Gordon, and a stellar supporting cast to weave a narrative that is both haunting and innovatively self-aware. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvt-mauboTc The premise of Late Night with the Devil is deceptively simple: in an attempt to rejuvenate his flagging career and the ratings of his talk show Night Owls, Jack Delroy (played with a mix of desperation and charisma by Dastmalchian) decides to host a Halloween special. The show takes a daring turn by featuring a girl purportedly possessed by demons, aiming to captivate and shock the nation. It's a decision that, unbeknownst to Jack and his team, sets the stage for an evening of genuine terror and revelation. The Good: What makes this film stand out is not just its plot but the Cairnes brothers' approach to storytelling. By embedding the narrative within the framework of a late-night show from the '70s, they capitalize on a mix of nostalgia and the inherent creepiness of dated television aesthetics. The grainy footage, period-appropriate set design, and costume all contribute to a sense of unease and authenticity. It blurs the lines between the film's reality and our own. David Dastmalchian's portrayal of Jack Delroy is central to the film's success. Dastmalchian navigates the complex layers of his character with ease. Jack is at once a grieving husband, a desperate showman, and ultimately, a man facing the consequences of his hubris. The supporting cast, including Laura Gordon as the psychic June Ross-Mitchell and Ian Bliss as the skeptical producer Carmichael Haig, provide strong performances. They ground the film's supernatural elements in human emotion and conflict. The decision to include documentary elements and the found footage enhances the story's credibility and immersion. This choice respects the horror genre's traditions and challenges the audience's perception of reality and performance. The tension escalates on screen and within the viewers, creating an engaging meta-experience. The Bad: Despite its many strengths, Late Night with the Devil is not without its shortcomings. The film's pacing occasionally falters, particularly in the buildup to the Halloween special. Some scenes feel unnecessarily drawn out, which dilutes the tension and delays the gratification of the unfolding horror. The reliance on genre tropes may feel familiar to horror fans. The film partially challenges conventions but falls short of fully subverting them, missing an opportunity for genre innovation. Overall: However, these criticisms are relatively minor in the grand scheme of the film's achievements. Late Night with the Devil is a compelling addition to the horror genre. It offers a unique blend of psychological terror and a thoughtful meditation on grief, fame, and the cost of ambition. The Cairnes brothers demonstrate a keen understanding of horror's power to scare and reflect deeper human truths. The film's climax offers scares and commentary on public spectacle and twisted desires. Late Night with the Devil is a film that both celebrates and critiques the horror genre. It is a noteworthy accomplishment in modern horror cinema with strong performances, a clever narrative, and a unique aesthetic. Despite some tropes and pacing issues, they don't greatly diminish its impact. It deserves to be watched in the dark, preferably late at night, to fully appreciate its craft. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZFyCTVRPC4&list=PLsD5qP1WqKt4HWkeGUh94LDGSjsNTsA5Z&pp=gAQBiAQB Read the full article

Music Monday #242: SUPER JUNIOR-L.S.S. - Joke release: February 2024 genre: Kpop cw: flashing, utter nonsense
When I made my non-binding poll on Mastodon yesterday, this was not one of the options. But for all that I low-key loathe April Fools Day, the more I thought about it, the more it felt like the right time to do the review. So. Here we are. With yet more Kpop. Feeding into the "holiday" like a fool.
After twenty years together (dear lort, how has it been that long), Super Junior's newest subunit are 5th gen rookies Leeteuk, Shindong, and Siwon for SUPER JUNIOR-L.S.S. Yes, I said 5th gen and rookies and without joke quotes around them, even though it is something of a running joke, both that L.S.S. are rookies and that RIIZE and aespa are their seonbaenim, with TWS as their now-rivals (originally, they cited RIIZE as rivals). I mean, it's the same logic that lead to EXO's Kai winning a Rookie of the Year award after his solo debut, so while you can tell every time the guys say it they aren't being entirely serious, it's still a thing.
"Joke" was the third of three consecutive singles released in January and February as part of the subunit's full and official debut. As a song, it's perfectly fine, though not one I can listen to very often. Cute and fluffy and innocent like a debut boy group love song ought to be, but with a dance twist that makes it just a bit weird even without the video.
Of course there is a video, obviously, and we can't just not talk about it, but even after all these weeks, I still don't really know where to start. This is arguably the least serious of the three MVs (and Suit Up and C'Mon aren't that serious), but also there's definitely references here that I, as someone who hasn't watched much K-drama, am mostly not getting. Which is fine, but it's kind of distracting and the video fell out of rotation almost as soon as it popped up. As always, though, that's a personal thing and your mileage may vary. Especially if you have more familiarity with the tropes.
All three debut singles along with their pre-debut Japanese EP, Let's Standing Show, are available for streaming on all the usual suspects. They also have quite a number of dance challenges they exchanged during the promotion of the three singles, available on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, if one wants to do a little digging and snickering. Perhaps unsurprising, given the nature of the "Joke" dance challenge, that one was only done with other male idols.
Want to see Music Monday deep dives more often? Sponsor a song selection! For the low, low price of one (1) KoFi, I'll write up the song of your choice. ANY song of your choice. Yes, even that one that's been played to death. Yes, your obscure faves too. With sponsors, I can stop skipping weeks and falling further and further behind in the releases! Sponsor a current CB for the next open Music Monday slot or sponsor a throwback for a Thursday feature! But seriously, if you've been enjoying my selections and analyses, we (me and the foster kittens) would love a KoFi in thanks. DW | Twitter | Mastodon | Bluesky | Ko-fi | Patreon | Discord | Twitch

For the Battlestar galactica show: #1,3,7,9,10, 16, 19,20,21,25
whoa bsg!!! what a throwback...i don't think i'll be able to answer all these questions because it's been so long since i've followed any active bsg people but i will try :)
1. the character everyone gets wrong
the fact that people demonize boomer and uplift athena as the "good eight" despite the fact that boomer literally never did anything athena also hasn't done enrages me to this day. and yes canon started this "good eight"/"bad eight" dichotomy, but fandom shouldn't have continued it. -_- justice for boomer always -- in canon, in fandom, and beyond.
3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr
this one i don't think i can answer, sorry! :( it's been too long since i've regularly seen bsg takes and i can't think of an interestingly bad one to talk about here.
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
i'll have to pass on this one too, sorry!
9. worst part of canon
WHAT THEY DID TO BOOMER. i will ALWAYS be mad about how they massacred her character after the new caprica arc. she was the BEST character on the show and her interactions with caprica six were AMAZING and the interplay between her and athena could've been SO GOOD and she could've come to embody the themes of the show so beautifully. but then they uh. did All of That *handwaves at the rest of boomer's screentime in s3 & s4* instead
10. worst part of fanon
i don't know if this is truly the worst part of fanon since again i'm very detached from bsg fandom but the idea that the webisodes are just as canon as the main show always annoyed me. sorry but if it's not in the show it's not in the show, you can't point to a webisode that not everyone will or can access in order to justify writing choices made in the show proper. and no one has to accept the events of the webisodes as canon if they don't want to. like me <3
16. you can’t understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
hm well i can't answer this with a fandom element whose popularity i don't understand which i think is what is the question is implicitly asking, but a canon element whose popularity i don't understand is helo agathon who apparently is quite well-liked among bsg fans despite having zero personality and actively making athena worse as a character just by existing near her.
19. you’re mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like…
i'm not ashamed (i think it's silly to be ashamed of liking things!), but i AM kinda mad that i like lee adama because he is such an ass. alas i do like him and also i kind of ship him with roslin more than i ship his father with roslin. whoops!
20. part of canon you found tedious or boring
kara thrace's entire deal was deeply boring to me and became actively tedious once she...died and became an angel? or whatever the hell that was? even though they already had a religious martyr character in roslin? lol. anyway. the most interesting thing kara thrace ever did was turn into a pigeon
21. part of canon you think is overhyped
starbuck/apollo. WHO cares. ZZZ.
25. common fandom complaint that you’re sick of hearing
eh, i don't know that i'm 'sick' of hearing this complaint, but i do think the hate for s4 and even the finale is overblown. there are definitely aspects of s4 & the finale that i don't like (tory foster deserved better for one, and helo and athena's daughter being mitrochondrial eve sure was a choice!), but i really don't think they were some sort of catastrophic failure the way some people talk about them. EXCEPT for boomer's arc. that was a catastrophic failure and we SHOULD be talking about it all the time

Terror Time 2022: Days 22 thru 25
Let’s get into it:
Malignant (2021):
Warning: Scenes of domestic abuse early in this movie
I wanted to love this movie. Or more accurately, I DID love this movie but with a big caveat. The over-the-top gothic atmosphere throughout, the Giallo-esque murder sequences, the mystery of what Gabriel is (I thought split personality up until the reveal). Of course, even when I believed that, I had sympathy for the main character and just wanted her to get the help she needed, not the butchers she had years ago. And the ending was a heartwarming, with a bit of bittersweet, that most horror movies don’t have nowadays but I felt was earned here. Outside of a few jumps, I was never really scared, but I was having fun.
And then they revealed what Gabriel was. Now, my problem wasn’t that it was ridiculous or unrealistic (if anything, it helped). It was a personal thing. Depictions of birth trauma, in this case twins eating each other in the womb, ALWAYS made me light headed enough, I need to lie down and get a drink of water. Like I can’t power through without that, if at all. Maybe I have some unresolved trauma of my own.
So this isn’t a real flaw of the movie. And overall, if there’s a sequel coming, I can't wait for it...to show up to streaming, so I can watch it in my home, with a couch and a water bottle on standby.
Hubie Halloween (2020): The first Adam Sandler movie I’ve seen in ages. And watching it, it’s hard not to remember why. Sandler’s title character is one set up to be what’s funny to do in any given scene rather then a consistent, well thought out character. If this was funny for you, that’s good. I just felt I didn’t understand why a man who says he loves Halloween is startled by stuff like a four year old.
The choice to make most of the adults tired of Hubie’s schtick to the point almost all of them play pranks on him, while most of the teenagers are kind of indifferent to him is odd. Like I get the reason is so younger viewers side with him more. But in-universe, it’s like the older generation have been dealing with him and their own issues for so long, they’ve made him the scapegoat. While the Gen Z Kids, while most of them think it’s funny to scare him, seem more willing to work around him. It and the unearned happy ending implies, if accidentally, that if he’s a tyrant, he’s an ineffective one, because eventually, everyone can work around and ignore him.
And yes, Steve Buscemi’s ‘Werewolf’ character is one of the best parts of the movie, along with the ‘escaped mental patient’ subplot with how that ended. They subverted two horror movie tropes at once, but in a non mean-spirited way, which is appreciated.
The House of the Devil (2009):
Ti West’s earlier horror movie, this time a more committed throwback in presentation, I think. What it’s film on, the fashion, the effects, even the pacing feel at home with any of the 1970s films.
Though even with that, it’s still an odd structure. First act is entirely setting up the main character. The only thing remotely creepy is the Tom Noonan’s character fairly erratic behavior. Even based on similar films actually from this era I’ve seen (Black Christmas, Phantasm, Hell Night, etc.) actually do more to set up some scary right at the beginning. But this is pretty par for the course w=from what I’ve seen from West. The second act is really just Samantha getting the feel of the house, nothing happening except her putting it together gradually that she is in the lion’s den.
And then the last twenty minutes kicks things into high gear and doesn’t let up until the end. It’s actually watching this part that interestingly enough reminded me of Get Out and it’s climax. Not to say I think Jordan Peele ripped this off. Outside of the slow burn followed by frantic escape from a house with an evil family, these are still very different movies with different goals and even different genres.
The ending was just kind of that. No subversion or moment that made it clear what was the big message was. It was an ending that fit in with, like I said, any horror movie that came out around 1983 or such. Like WNUF earlier, it’s a throwback that would’ve fooled me into thinking it was made then if I didn’t know going in. I guess the point WAS “they don’t make them like they used to”. For batter and for worse.
Warning: Sexual Assault scene in third act.
Evil Dead (2013): Another personal marathon tradition of mine; I try to watch one of the Evil Dead movies every year, and this year, it’s the 2013 remake (Or is it? Honestly, you every film in this franchise is a remake in some form or another at this point, so it doesn’t really matter). Some horror movies are made to make you scream, others to make you unsettled, some to thrill you, and some to make you puke. This one is built to make you WINCE. In addition to the plots involving Necronomicons and demonic possession, this franchise is built on making you believe everything in it hurts. Though the others stab, this one feels more like it slices.
While I liked Ash vs Evil Dead and thought it was a worthy continuation of the previous movies, I’m not alone in thinking it’d be good to continue down this road too. I’m not sure we’ll see Bruce Campbell as Ash again, but I do want to see Jane Levy as Mia again, with or without him. Though if they get funnier with each installment is going to depend.
Also, this again has another scene with body violation. Technically, the whole movie is about that, but there’s a more overt case to start it off after the book is read for the first time.
Censor (2021): A film about a film censor going insane after watching too many “video nasties” bloody horror movie can sound like a bad idea if you look at it the wrong way. But as I hoped, while this movie makes it clear how extreme horror movies at this time can be, it knows who the real horror was. (Again, like a previous movie I mentioned here). While some of the images in these films didn’t help Enid’s condition, it was clear she was bringing a whole lot more unchecked baggage to this job then should be healthy. I liked how it was ambiguous at what point she truly snapped. For all we know, she was already dangerously unstable at the start of the film given how she acted during her first scene with her parents.
I’m not sure about the theory that it was actually her who killed her sister. I guessed it’s consistent with her mental state, but what was it over? Was it because she was crazy even before that? Though with that, we could be going to demonizing the mentally ill, which I don’t like.
But points to the film for pointing out that horror filmmakers don’t try to invent the horror, but help people vent it out. I liked the film director when we finally meet him. How he seemed at the start to be all Colonel Kurtz, until he just got tired of Enid being stubborn and lost his temper. Hell, the whole message of this film can be summed up in one of the most famous lines from another certain Meta Horror movie (”Movies don't create psychos. Movies make psychos more creative”)
The ending is just perfect. A “happy ending” disguising a clear picture of the ultimate harm excessive censorship can do to people. (Possible subtle jab to Little Shop of Horrors theatrical ending?)There’s a fine line between knowing not to take on too much and just trying to disconnect from reality. The idea that those with control in society are the most detached from the other people in it in all the worst ways. It creates a scenario where the cure is worse then the disease because it leaves you willfully blind. The beast is inside you and will find a way out. You just have to find a careful, but effective option to feed it. At least one that ends with zero people dead.
Warning: scene of sexual harassments and potential rape about halfway through.

TROPED Choice: Throwback
Welcome to TROPED Choice: Throwback! For this special, Two Round Multi-Fandom Choice Event we will be asking our writers to step back in time to write us a fic based on one of our old prompts! That’s right, every TROPED prompt ever made, all in one place, and the choice is yours! If you're interested, keep reading!
How It Works:
Round 1 will feature all THIRTY (30!!) prompts we have used in our traditional Troped/Chopped events (Chopped 1.0, Chopped 2.0, Chopped 3.0, Chopped Madness, Troped Madness, Troped: JatP, and Troped: Visual)! Select a prompt and you will have 10 days to write a fic, easy peasy! You may use any prompt on the list, even if you've written for that round before!
Round 2 will feature all prompts made by YOU, our writers! We have compiled all ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN (114!!!) prompts created for our choice events (Chopped Choice, Chopped Choice: Smut, Chopped Choice: Horror, Troped Choice: Western, Troped Choice: Conclave, Troped Choice: Horror, and all three of our gift exchange events) for you to chose from! Select a prompt and you will have 10 days write a fic, easy peasy! You will not be required to use a chosen theme, special characters, or locations, only the four selected tropes! The only rule? You can't use your own prompt!
And don't worry, all the info about how each round works will be available on our masterlist of prompts, which we will release when Round 1 begins!
But of course, this is TROPED, so there's a catch!
For each round, we will include a WILD CARD trope! This trope must be used on top of your pre-selected prompt! We wont announce the trope until the start of each round, so keep your eyes peeled! The trope could be small, or HUGE, and you know we can put out some crazy stuff, so be ready for anything! (We will not select a trope that is used in any of the prompts!)
Voting will be best use of the Wild Card Trope, best use of the original prompt, and best overall, plus some bonus polls (of course)!
Dates:
Round 1
Writing Period: January 15th 12:00am - January 25th 3:00am PST/6:00am EST Voting: January 26th 12:00am - January 28th 11:59pm Winners Announced: January 29th!

The first rule of the fight club is to never let an ENTP see you claiming that your point is the One True Point and everyone who thinks otherwise is "problematic".
Even if we initially had the same opinion as you - the fact that you make it an absolute statement will make us try and find evidence for counter argument XD
