"Be still, don't move" + Makoto/Nagito
(Okay, I leaned pretty wholesome for the Kamuegi one, and I already have a hunch that this one is taking my brain in another direction, lol. If someone wants wholesome Komaegi, all you have to do is ask!)
...
Makoto woke to the sound of someone humming.
His whole body was sore– a soreness only interrupted by a few distinct points of sharp pain –but he could feel that he was in a pretty comfortable bed. As he worked his eyes open, he had to fight against the interference of crusted tears that seemed to momentarily cement them shut. Which told him that he'd been asleep for longer than normal.
"Ah. I thought my terrible singing might wake you up. Sorry about that."
He focused his gaze on the face hovering nearby. He felt the vague, niggling familiarity that meant he was supposed to remember that face. He'd recovered a lot of his school memories, with the Future Foundation's help, but some things took longer to come back than others. And surviving a helicopter crash didn't help.
Wait! The helicopter!
"I was just very excited to get to tend to your wounds, is all," the stranger (or non-stranger) continued. His tangled, white hair stuck out in so many directions, it seemed to defy gravity; a ratty, striped shirt hung loose on his narrow frame; and a peculiar radiance in his eyes spoke to an excitement that was triumphing soundly over a deep physical exhaustion. "Of course, for your sake, I wish you had someone a lot more competent to assist you. But for my own, well...I am of course more than glad to serve you any way I can." A pink flush filled his cheeks as he offered up a strangely enthusiastic smile.
Makoto shook his head, baffled beyond words. "Serve me? Where are we? Where's...?" He shut his eyes for a moment, focusing. "I was in a helicopter. The...The city was under attack, and my sister...My friends..."
"Wow! You're so selfless, for someone who broke his leg in a helicopter crash."
He noticed, then, that his knee had been crudely bandaged into a thick makeshift cast. "Broke my leg?"
"Well, I'm no doctor, so I suppose you can take my words with a few grains of salt. It might not be exactly broken, but...I wouldn't recommend trying to walk on it."
Oh, that was never in question.
"It's funny. Your sister isn't nearly this injured. Did you try to shield her with your body, or...are you just that unlucky?" He seemed to delight in the question.
"You saw my sister?! Where is she?"
The delighted expression sobered into an apologetic smile. "I’m sorry to say that she isn’t here. She was made a prisoner of the Warriors of Hope. Ah, sorry! I shouldn't use such an inapt title in front of you, of all people. But I was able to hide you away from them. Fortunately, this house’s previous owners no longer have need of it. Very lucky for us, don’t you think?"
The second reference to luck stirred something in Makoto's mind. A name was trying to rise to the surface, very slowly...But he couldn't focus on that right now. "Who are the Warriors of Hope? What do you mean, my sister is their prisoner? And...are we still in Towa City? How long was I asleep?" His voice cracked as it became too painful to support it; it felt like he might have at least one bruised rib.
The non-stranger laid a pacifying hand on him, smiling besottedly. "There's no need to strain yourself. The world's savior has more than earned a nice, comfy spectator seat for this round. It's someone else's responsibility to prove hope supreme, right now. It would be far too easy for you. Not worth your time."
"But you said my sister is someone's prisoner!" Makoto tried to sit up, but the pacifying hand turned restraining, guiding him back down to the bed. He couldn't try again; the pain that had flared in his ribs would have grounded him if the hand hadn't.
"Be still; don't move. Ahh, the pull to heroism that emanates from you...It's a good thing I'm here to serve you, or who knows what you'd get into. Haha, just imagining it almost makes me feel faint..." One of his hands grasped his opposite arm, whereas the other remained in his lap. The latter was covered by a thick-looking mitten. (It reminded Makoto of Mukuro's tattoo and Kyoko's scars.) He looked giddy, exultant, and it didn't make sense. It didn't go with the horrible things he'd said. Something was seriously wrong here!
A part of a memory came into focus. A part of a name. "Ko...Ko-something..."
The non-stranger froze, suddenly looking almost fearful.
"Isn't that your name?" Makoto asked. "I'm sorry, I still have trouble remembering some things..."
Kyoko and Byakuya both had warned against being too open about what he did and didn't remember. They said that telling anyone how unreliable the recovered memory sometimes was, risked informing enemies that they could pretend to be friends. He knew that he should be more careful, but he couldn't shake the feeling that this person was a friend, or close to a friend. Maybe...a fond acquaintance?
But the look of alarm on his face seemed to mean Makoto had made some kind of mistake. "There's no need to remember me! I'm nobody. I don't deserve to be named by someone as incredible as you. Oh, I certainly hope you haven't been wasting your mental energy on something so pointless. I wouldn't forgive myself!"
"Hey, it's okay," Makoto said. "Please, I just-" He winced. Yeah, too much talking for his poor ribs. "Just need you to explain," he whispered, "what's going on here. The city, my sister..."
Ko-something's face softened at the first sign of pain. He dabbed the sweat from Makoto's face with a cold rag, smiling dreamily all the while. "Poor hope. As I said, you're not allowed to be the hero for this round. Your sister is alive. The city is...well, it's certainly not thriving any longer, but it's not entirely defenseless, either. And you are perfectly safe here. I will use my every breath to ensure that, especially."
Makoto wanted to say something, but the throbbing in his ribs forced him to just focus on breathing, for now. There were so many things he needed to follow up on, with this person he had definitely known before. Why was there a chain around his neck? Why did he seem to know everything that was happening? What was happening? Where did he know him from? Was it from Hope's Peak? What did he mean when he said he didn't deserve to be named? And what did he mean by all that servant stuff? Why had he saved Makoto and not Komaru, if they had been in the same crash? If it was just Ko-something alone, it probably would have been impossible for him to carry two people at once...Most likely, he'd carried Makoto first, because he was so injured, and then he'd gone back for Komaru and found she'd been abducted by those Warriors of Hope people. That made sense, right?
And he still hadn't gotten an explanation about the Warriors of Hope. The name sounded friendly, but the assertion that they were keeping Komaru prisoner definitely didn't. Ko-something had said the title was inapt.
There was so much going on, and breathing hurt.
"My friends," he said weakly.
"They're both alive, too," Ko-something assured him sweetly. "Everyone is alright. They all have their parts to play. And you" (He wiped the cool rag over Makoto's lips, even though there definitely wasn't any sweat there. He did sometimes drool in his sleep; maybe some of that had dried on him?) "just have to enjoy your vacation. Consider me entirely at your disposal to make your stay here more comfortable. Unfortunately, I can't always be at your side; I do have another job. But I'll give you a way to call me, and I promise you I will always rush right over. Nothing over there is more important to me than you. Oh! And you can call me Servant." That smile seemed...really genuine.
Komaeda. That was his name. Komaeda. And...he was from Hope's Peak. Another class. Another...
"You're like me," Makoto realized. "Ultimate Lucky Student."
Komaeda's smile tensed into a rictus of...what looked bizarrely like shame? "You can call me Servant," he reiterated, almost desperately. "Or whatever else you'd like to call me. I can understand if you don't think someone as unworthy as me should be allowed to be called a servant to the Ultimate Hope himself."
"This is wrong....I...I just-"
"I'm privileged to be under the sound of your voice, but I think you should hold off on talking much right now. It's clearly taking a toll, and I wouldn't be a very good servant if I let you puncture a lung." He presented a bottle of medicine and poured a bit of it into the cap. Makoto noticed he held the bottle between his knees to open it, rather than using both hands; his covered hand still lay in his lap. But he did use that hand to hold the cap steady while he poured into it. "This should help with the pain and help you to get some real sleep. Here."
As Komaeda brought the medicine to Makoto's lips, he could just hear what Byakuya, Toko, or Hiro would say about accepting medicine from someone so suspicious. But...he was already at Komaeda's mercy in every other way. He couldn't move, couldn't leave. His hacking gun was nowhere to be seen, and he had no way of calling for help, at least for now. If Komaeda wanted to hurt him, why would he have gone to the trouble of bandaging him and...?
After only a moment's hesitation, Makoto parted his lips and took the medicine.
Komaeda's pupils dilated slightly. "Thank you for your trust," he breathed, maybe more exultantly than Makoto would have liked. "I swear, for all my filthy word is worth, that you will not regret it. I'll guard you with my worthless life, I'll keep you abreast of all the good news, I'll attend to your every need until my final breath. Of course, I mean, until the battle is won. Of course, I will return you to your friends once the danger has passed. Yes, of course."
The tone Komaeda used when he said "of course" reminded Makoto of the many times Komaru had dismissively said that she'd get to something "later" and then inevitably forgot.
"Komaeda?" he tried to say, but he found that his speech slurred on the way out. He blinked and found that his eyelids were heavy.
"Shhh," the upperclassman shushed him, with adoration in his eyes that didn't match the friendly but casual rapport Makoto remembered from school. "Don't fight it. As I said, my hope deserves a good rest. I'll be back with your dinner by the time you wake up. I'll...try to have something that's worth eating, heheh."

After the encounter at the shrine, Chiaki spent a long time simply wandering around, hoping to run into Nagito again. At some point, she saw a gigantic Monokuma strutting about, knocking away and crushing all the smaller Monokumas in it's path. It seemed to be approaching Towa Hills. Oh, that's right. I remember Komaeda-kun mentioning it when he was talking to Naegi-san and Fukawa-san... Something about a base? ...Maybe I should've payed more attention.
Tired of mindless wandering, she decided to approach the large building as well. As she got closer, she noticed a large group of people gathered nearby cheering for the giant Monokuma. These people... I get a bad feeling about them. I'll just... watch from a distance.
Chiaki concealed herself behind some of the piles of debris. Despite this, a smoking woman with messy pink hair noticed her and approached. "Hey there. Haven't see you before, you a new rescue?" Unlike the rest of the crowd, the lady before her seemed pretty normal. Her voice was relaxed and mature, practically oozing the energy of a well-experienced older woman. Chiaki was so stunned by her aura she forgot to reply.
"...Lost for words, huh? Guess even young ladies like you aren't immune to my womanly charm. It's alright, you're not the first one. My name's Hiroko Hagakure, and you are?" Finally snapping out of her daze, Chiaki answered, "...Oh, sorry. I'm Chiaki Nanami, a member of Future Foundation, branch office 14. Nice to meet you, Hagakure-san."
"A Future Foundation member...? My, and here I thought the only member in the city was Fufu. Chiaki Nanami, huh? I'll just call you Nana then." Nana? ...Oh, I see. She took the first part of my family name and made it a nickname. And Fufu... Is probably Fukawa-san. So she's met her... "Sorry for all the ruckus, after Koko's motivational speech, the adults here have gotten a bit... too excited. It totally went to their heads."
"...Yeah, I can see that. Say... do you know anything about that big Monokuma?" The question had been stuck in Chiaki's mind ever since she saw it. "Oh, that? That's the Big Bang Monokuma. Towa-kun's controlling it. He said it was the adults' 'last hope', or something like that. From the looks of it, he's gonna go and bring down Towa Hills. Can't tell you anything more than that."
"...I see. Thanks for the info."
"Happy to help. You've probably got some important mission to carry out, right? I'll leave you alone then. Good luck, Nana." And with that, Hiroko walked back into the crowd. She seemed nice. ..Hmm, but... I feel like I've heard the name 'Hagakure' somewhere before... Chiaki decided to head into Towa Hills and see what was going on.
As it turns out, she never made it into the building. The Big Bang Monokuma had begun attacking it before she could get to the entrance and she had to retreat. It appeared to be held back by something though, as eventually it's neck exploded and the head flew up, eventually landing on it's original spot upside down. The giant robot fell backwards, crushing all the smaller Monokumas swarmed at it's feet.
Now that the assault was over, Chiaki cautiously approached the entrance again and snuck her way inside. Thanks to someone -presumably Toko and Komaru- having dealt with all the obstacles and enemies in the building, she could ride the elevator up to the top floor immediately. She went through several rooms and short stairs before arriving at a white room filled with debris.
Inside the room, she saw Nagito attempting to lift the debris from over a small, green-haired girl's body. She walked inside, drawing the attention to her. "...Ah, Nanami-san...? What are you doing here...? Did you come to help Komaru Naegi? You are much too late I'm afraid..." Nagito was out of breath, clearly exhausted from moving the bits of debris away. "Oh, it's you. The Future Foundation lady. Are you here to deal with Monaca?" Oh, so she's 'Monaca'.
"...No, I just saw the big Monokuma and wondered why it was attacking this place. Since it was defeated, I decided to go inside to check it out. ...What are you doing here, Komaeda-kun?" She could see he wanted to help Monaca out, though she doesn't know why. "...Ah, That... Well, I had... planned to leave once the... Big Bang Monokuma showed up, but I... changed my mind and... decided to see things through to the end." He paused several times to breathe. "And I'm... glad I did. It would be... such a shame to let... Monaca-san's potential go to waste... all because her plan didn't work."
"Hey, can you hurry up? It hurts being crushed by debris. Monaca's tired of being unable to go anywhere." Monaca started pouting at Nagito pausing his attempts at getting her out, ignoring the fact he clearly haven't made much headway and already looked ready to collapse. "Ah, my apologies, Monaca-san. I will get... back to helping you." Not wanting to see him actually collapse, Chiaki started to help without a word. "Nanami-san...?"
"Don't talk. You're pretty tired already, right? I don't want you to collapse, so I'll help."
"...You're so weird, Big Sis. You do know who I am, right? It'd be much better for you if I just died." Chiaki ignored her, leading Monaca to spout an endless stream of comments about of how weird and stupid she is at her. "...I really wish you'd just kill me. I already failed, there's no reason for me to live anymore." That almost got a reply from Chiaki, but she continued to stay silent.
By the time the debris was moved enough for her to be lifted up, Monaca had talked herself into exhaustion and had fallen asleep. Nagito didn't look much better off. "...Hey hey, what are we gonna do about her? It sounds like you've got plans for her, but maybe we should just take her home with us instead?" She didn't voice it, but the real reason she wanted to bring Monaca home was to make sure Nagito didn't use her for any other despair-inducing plans. ...Well, one of the reasons.
"...Is really that a good idea...? What about... Naegi-kun and Kirigiri-san...? They won't... be happy about it. Especially not... Naegi-kun..." He had a point, but Chiaki was stubborn. "We could always just say it's to keep an eye on her. And besides, they were fine with letting you and Kamukura-kun stay. I think we'll be fine." Naegi-kun will probably be a bit upset, but he'll understand... maybe. She's just a child, after all. "...For now, let's get out of here. I'm tired of this place. I wanna head home already..." She rubbed her eye sleepily.
"...Alright, let us be on our way, then." Nagito laid Monaca on the ground before turning around and putting her arms over her shoulders and put his hands under her legs, carrying her piggy-back style. Without another word, they left the building and started walking on a road away from the crowd of adults.
As they were walking, Chiaki noticed Nagito staggering, his still bleeding thighs making his legs even weaker when combined with the exhaustion. "Komaeda-kun-"
Before she could finish her sentence, he fell forward and she rushed to hold him up. "Komaeda-kun! L-let's take a break. You're in no state to walk right now. I'll... take care of Monaca-san too, okay?" Completely ignoring her, Nagito started to blush and looked forward with a tired, but no less lovesick expression.
"Kamukura-sama..." Kamukura-kun? At that, she followed his line of sight and saw Izuru walking towards them, rolling a trolley with Shirokuma and a pitch black Monokuma's heads on it. "...Kamukura-kun? What are you doing here? I thought you were still home..." He stopped right in front of them, letting go of the trolley and placing Nagito inside. Afterwards, he picked up the sleeping Monaca and placed her on Nagito's lap. The girl instinctively curled up into his chest.
Finally, Izuru turned back to Chiaki and said the first thing she'd heard from him in a while. "Let's go. There is no reason to stay here anymore."
"...Alright, let's go." She started walking alongside him. Some time after, the black Monokuma head started talking, "Yo man, where the hell you takin' us now!? You 'n' that big boobed babe gonna kidnap us and torture is with watching ya get it on or something? Aren't you a massive pervert! Bet this BDSM bastard over here will enjoy it though!"
Chiaki hated this guy already. She decided to just ignore him. Clearly, the bear didn't like the lack of response, "HEEEEY, are you guys ignorin' me!? Don't ya know I'm a total-"
"Please, shut up. You will wake Monaca-san." Nagito was uncharacteristically stern. Guess Chiaki's not the only one who can't stand the Monokuma's chattering. "Oh Kurokuma, please try to be quiet! Little Monaca-chan needs her sleep to grow big and strong!" Shirokuma -who Chiaki had thought wasn't functioning anymore- started gently reprimanding the other robot head. "She must be so tired after everything that happened... not to mention all the rubble she got crushed by! Poor girl... it must hurt a lot..." Nagito was clearly done with their bantering. "You shut up too. I hate you both."
"M-me too!?"
"AHAHAHAHA! Looks like this bottom has a back-bone after all! Bet you're the kind of servant who acts all sweet and obedient during the day, but at night YOU'RE the one giving orders! AHAHAHAHA ISN'T THAT JUST HILARIOUS!? Imagine THIS GUY giving orders! AHAHAHA-"
Izuru briefly stopped walking to smash his hands into Shirokuma and Kurokuma's heads and ripped something small enough that Chiaki couldn't see it clenched in his fists. As the two bears shut down, Izuru put the parts into his pockets. Apparently having woken up some time during the commotion, Monaca spoke up, "...Where are we going?"
"Home."
"...That's not an answer, Mr. stalker."
Izuru lifted a brow. "...Stalker? Who, exactly, do you believe I would be stalking?" At that, Monaca cocked her head with an innocent expression. "Who are you stalking? Monaca thinks it's obvious. Mr. Stalker is stalking Big Sis and Mr. Servant, of course! The Monokuma kids have seen you following them around all the time. Ever since Big Sis came to Towa City, you've been following her and Mr. Servant around."
"I am observing them to ensure their safety. 'Stalking' implies malicious intent or an obsession with the people in question, neither of which I have." He continued to deny the accusation, but did confirm he was, in fact, following them around. "...Anyway, tell me where you're taking me, Mr. Stalker. I don't trust you, so I want to make sure you're not taking Monaca and Mr. Servant to some dangerous place. Monaca can't protect herself, and Mr. Servant is weak and useless."
Noticing Izuru had decided to ignore her, Chiaki replied instead, "...We're going to our apartment. There's only us and two other Future Foundation members there, so it's pretty safe. The only problem we've had is Komaeda-kun's occasional episodes. ...Mr. Stalker usually deals with it before it can get too bad, though." Izuru scoffed.
"...I don't like that Mr. Stalker has that much power over Mr. Servant. He's MY servant, not yours." Monaca pouted, a far too childish expression for the implications behind her words. "It's okay. I won't let Mr. Stalker do anything, I promise." The girl squinted at Chiaki, thinking over her words. In the end, she nodded on affirmation. "Hm, okay! If Big Sis promises to watch Mr. Stalker, then I guess it's okay."
A yawn forced it's way out of Monaca's mouth. "...Mmm I'm tired. Monaca's gonna take a nap. Good night, Big sis." Immediately after she spoke, she curled back up into Nagito's chest and promptly fell asleep.
Chiaki gave a small smile, and walked home with a new addition to their odd 'family'.

I’ve never could believe that Future Foundation and Towa City were the only real factions out there in the tragedy, the entire country was destroyed along with the government. You can’t tells me there isn’t 200+ factions ranging from tiny to decently sized all squabbling for power, Future Foundation may be one of the larger and better equipped factions, but there’s no way Japan, and every other country, aren’t fractured into a dozens of different factions and groups of varying beliefs and sizes all vying for power and control in a destroyed world. Which opens such a fun political intrigue possibilities!

Time to be (supposedly) Alive
Towa City. My old home. The place where I lost everything, myself, and carried so much on my back. A thirteen year old girl with a cat managed to save thousands only to be harmed by some. It combinated into an attempt to end my life.
I survived. At times I wish I didn't. I have so much trauma. I don't remember all of it. My body does remember. The day I was taken away for immediate treatment never fails to mix my feelings. Adults and awake children hailed me as a savior. A beacon of hope. For me I was in despair as I couldn't take the pain I went through anymore. I didn't want to be like Junko, the Warrior of hope, and the Remnants of Despair! I knew I couldn't let despair win in the long term.
It's been awhile. I'm going to Hopes Peak Academy for a while now. I've been slowly moving forward. My schedule dedicated to having classes in the mornings till noon then I have several appointments at Hope Mercy. Most of the appointments are learning to use my prosthetic legs. The last few are counseling with a graduate from the school who works at the hospital. They're nice.
Today, I've been thinking about the past. It's just numb for me. My mom, dad, older brother and Lilith died in that city. My clinic died there to.
I've came to realize that, I still want to live in Towa City once it's rebuilt and start a new. I've had plans for a large animal hospital and animal shelter built in one another for a while now. The issue is that I want to have a family who cares about me. Adoption doesn't seem promising for me as my problems are heavy, not to mention complex. Sure I could live alone but, it doesn't feel right to me.
I also have to consider my protection. The C.O.R.E and Future Foundation have been keeping the media and other things away from me. They'd even have some action on what I can do in helping them. It all sucks.
Soon, I'm going to be fourteen years old. I don't know what to feel at this point. I'm upset as it marks I've made it through the unfeasible then sad as I don't have a family of my own to think about.
At least I have Scout and Spike. Spike is now a therapy bot! That makes me happy a little bit.
Tenshi shut her journal. Fourteen years old and has nothing. It was tuff to handle.
She slumped her head over her chair, "two days till fourteen. Fuck this hell called life."
It's been a while since she's been staying in the school dorms. She decided I'd be best to stay on campus other than be with one of the survivors. She didn't want to burden anyone at the moment.
Tenshi looked at the clock, "damn. I haven't slept in three nights. Fucking insomnia."
~
Tenshi tossed a ball into the air. Spike went off to catch it. Other pets where running around the park in the sun.
"Damn. What am I supposed to do?" Tenshi muttered.

happy birthday komaeda
Someone sits on a ledge in a ruined city and thinks about jumping.
The fall is deadly. His body has always been weak, frail and untrustworthy; even his own luck couldn't save him. There's nothing soft down there, harsh edges and rusty rebar tempting him into a fate guaranteed. Few things in his life have been guaranteed, and something about that promise feels comforting, like it's the one thing he'll always have up his sleeve.
In his mind's eye, he jumps. He falls. His imagination has always been lively, but for some reason, this part is blank. "I die" is the only thing he can come up with- the image eludes him. He's scared, maybe, of truly seeing it- the same thing happened when he was kidnapped, mind hazy and gone, wondering: "what happens if he forgets to feed me?" He doesn't want to remember that.
He remembers it anyway, because the one thing the cancer refuses to take his is memory.
When Kamakura looked at him, he thought he might implode. Not for the reason the others thought- something about hope and despair and a name that tastes like sweet poison on his tongue. Not because he was infatuated, even if he is. Because Kamakura looked right through him and saw whatever vines twisted a thousand times over his heart and had the gall to say, "What was the diagnosis?"
He already knew. Komaeda doesn't know why he asked. But he did, and Komaeda answered, and then he huffed, turned on his heel, and walked away.
(That wasn't Komaeda. That was Servant, someone who doesn't exist, a shell of a person.)
Are the children looking for him? He doesn't care, and they don't care; this is a moment to himself, while everything falls apart around them. Monaca could manage on her own if she wished; there's a cruel boredom to her smile, but no matter what anyone seems to think, it's different. There's something hollow about it, something lonely, something sad. Something like the look in his own eyes when he smiles in the mirror.
And Towa City is at least calm. Already destroyed in some sense, largely intact in another. So of course he ended up here. There's no battle for him to fail through or politics to ruin. He just has to sit here, and mess up whatever job given to him, and be laughed at.
He thinks of a serial killer and writer sharing a body and laughs.
He thinks about Kamakura and stops.
He thinks about jumping.
---
"Komaeda, are you sure you're okay?"
They're sitting in a room together. Outside Future Foundation headquarters, but not far- they want to keep tabs on the group, considering heavily whether they'll be let in or not. Some are a given- Fuyuhiko, Hajime, Sonia. Others are questionable- Mikan, Teruteru, himself. Komaeda isn't sure what the suits think, but he imagines Hajime will be staunch about it, and he'll be let in as the group will. Even if he's only a patient for Mikan to fuss over when there's little to do, that's fine.
He has never minded being just a body for the machine. As long as the machine is working towards good ends, he can be a nothing gear.
"Of course. Don't worry about me."
To be specifically accurate, Hajime is half-sitting half-laying in bed, blearily looking at him from across the room, as Komaeda sits at a desk on a laptop. He woke up an hour ago and wanted to be busy with something, anything as a distraction, and he keeps the apartment spotless out of the same urge. But there isn't much work anyone piles onto him, so he's just sitting here, wondering a bit aimlessly why he opened the accursed thing.
Why he woke up is irrelevant, really. People wake up at four AM sometimes, it's nothing strange.
(He remembers stale wind and red skies, and a building, and thinking about plumetting. Except, in his dream, he actually falls, and falls, and falls, and then there's a spear in his heart and-)
Hajime closes his eyes, and falls back on the bed. Komaeda turns back to the laptop, and decides that if he can't do anything productive, he can at least try to bring Hajime's files into some semblance of order.
For a moment, he thinks that's all it'll be. And then he hears the blanket shuffle, and footsteps, and he says, "Am I keeping you up?"
"No," Hajime tells him, circling his arms around his front. Breath hitches in his throat- he can't stand to look back. Disappointment could fill his eyes, or annoyance furrow his brow, or pity worry at his lip, and all three of them would destroy him like a shattered porcelain doll. So he doesn't look back, even if he does sit back in the chair a little. "I'm not really sleepy anyway."
("I'm don't get tired easily," a quiet Kamakura tells him unprompted. He's rarely responding to questions, anticipating them and answering before they leave your lips. "They wanted efficiency." Servant hears what's unsaid and stores it in the shell he's got left of what he was.)
"Did you want to use the laptop?"
Silence meets him. Anxiety frays at his heart- what's Hajime thinking? Is he waiting? Hoping he'll come back to bed so he can make sure Komaeda is sleeping enough for his condition? That's Mikan's job, to worry over his health- he hopes Hajime isn't back to that old haunt that Kamakura used to take up when the two of them were in Towa City. To this day he isn't sure what about it drew the man in.
"You should tell me what it was," is what Hajime settles on.
Komaeda smiles. It's an instinct, like a deer in headlights; if something's too prying, smile and wave it away. "Nothing, really. Just couldn't sleep."
"...That's not true," Hajime insists. But there's sleep still stuck in his throat, thick and syrupy; if he plays his cards right. maybe Hajime will decide he's too much trouble and go back to bed.
("You're trouble," Kamakura states. It's not a question and doesn't sound like a complaint, and it's not like Servant could respond to such a thing while bedridden. There are more words, but sadly, his consciousness fails him, and they all sound like static.)
"...It's nothing I can't deal with myself. You should go to bed- you sound tired."
Hajime just makes a noise, properly bending down into a hug. His arms tighten, and Komaeda almost wants to look back, but doesn't. Now it feels like cheating, peering at an answer he's supposed to solve himself. And he's never been opposed, but the shame curls around him like a serpent.
"I'll join you in a minute," Komaeda promises.
"...I wasn't having a great dream either," Hajime tells him, and course he knew the whole time. It doesn't take a genius to have figured that out. But he was hoping it could be kept in its box where it's contained, not growing, simply existing. A therapist would tell him that's a bad idea, but Komaeda thinks he knows his own brain well enough to cope nowadays. "It was about Towa City."
"Ah."
"You were standing on a high rooftop. I was across the street in a building, watching from a window."
Komaeda puts a hand on his, tentatively and slowly, in case it'd be rejected. Hajime takes it in his, tight and secure. "You were looking down. And I couldn't move."
"And then?"
Hajime pauses. "And then I felt cold, so I woke up. I don't know what was going to happen."
"I see."
"But I think Kamakura does."
Komaeda says nothing. Kamakura's powers of observation are second to none, and of course the husk that Servant was never cared to hide anything he didn't need to. If Kamakura had looked at him for even a nanosecond while he was up on a building, he'd probably see the image in his mind.
(They're on top of one such building. Servant is staring at the edge in lieu of disgracing Kamakura with his eye. He does not notice the arm moving until it's already around his shoulder, tugging him closer. He assumes, in this moment, that Kamakura is cold, or maybe that he thought the ground was going to collapse that close to the edge.)
"You were thinking about jumping," Kamakura states plainly.
"Yes." Hiding from Kamakura is silly. It's like trying to socialize in a hospital bed. "Back then, anyways."
"Come to bed," he states plainly. "It is worse alone."
Komaeda obliges, because he knows there isn't much getting out of it. He shuts the laptop and gets up, Kamakura trailing him into the bed. Laying down is awkward, unsure of what Kamakura wants- which turns out to be fine, because he doesn't care much about taking it for himself, burying his face in Komaeda's neck and pulling him close.
It's warm. With whichever one of them- Hajime, Kamakura, both if they'd prefer that thought- it's hard to think about that moment, because in the memory it is cold and dry and distant and lonely, and now there is a beating heart so loud in his ears it's hard to think.
"...I am glad you never did," he says. "While I was there I would have stopped you. But there were moments you could have."
"There were," Komaeda says. And, truthfully, he thinks that black void is the reason he didn't. The lack of an idea, the sudden fear of the plunge when he imagined the end- Servant could only do things he could imagine, and he couldn't imagine the final moment. Even in the end, he was scared- it would make him hysterical if not for the calm, collected beating heart he feels under his hands. "...That's over now."
"Even if it isn't," Kamakura tells him, "I would rather know you are safe."
He thinks about saying something in response, but they really were tired. After a few more moments, their breathing evens out so suddenly he thinks Kamakura must be able to enter REM on command- the thought is almost funny.
But, really, it's hard to be distracted by anything when there's a beating heart so close to his own.

Komaru Naegi VS Katie Mitchell [Danganronpa Survivor VS The Mitchell's VS The Machines]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leona: Komaru Naegi!
Tumblr media
Hifumi: Katie Mitchell!
Leona: The world is under attack and the robot invaders are taking over! But don't worry! These two unlikely teenage heroes are going to step up, fight for and with their families, and take back humanities world!
Hifumi: But when the odds collide, which one of these average teenage girls is gonna come out on top?
Leona: He's Hifumi and I'm Leona!
Hifumi: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, talents and skills, to see who will win a DEATH BATTLE!
Tumblr media
Hifumi: Komaru Naegi's life was completely ordinary in every way. Average home, average family, average education...
Leona: Other than the fact that she could see ghosts, but we don't care about that...
Tumblr media
Hifumi: In a typical day with Komaru and her family, her mother would always watch the same talk show at lunchtime, and her dad wouldn't shave his beard on Saturday when he didn't have to work. Her brother was a Hope's Peak student and life was as casual as it could be...
Leona: But then everything changed the day the world she knew...crumbled! Starting with a mutual killing between students of her brothers school, the chaos and tragedy spread until the people around her started disappearing.
Hifumi: She kept telling herself that everything would be okay, but when she was still in middle school and a group of unidentified men broke into her home, took her away from her parents, and imprisoned her in an apartment building in Towa City, she realized how hopeless it all was.
Leona: For one and a half years, Komaru remained confined in her apartment, with no interaction with the outside world besides the food given to her every day by her kidnappers. "Defying" her captors and pounding on the door was her morning ritual. Clearly she didn't learn the first time...
Hifumi: The Future Foundation came to rescue the captives, but on the day they did, Towa City got swept into an apocalypse, and Komaru ended up right at the center of the problem. The Demon Hunting Game hosted by the villainous Monaca Towa, Junko Enoshima's protégé, and her posse of vengeful children began, beginning a war between the abused kids and the egregious rebellion of adults.
Leona: After falling out of the Warriors of Hope's airship, Komaru landed on the rooftop of a hospital building. She saw Monokumas coming after her and cowered, hoping someone would help her. Her prayers were answered in the form of an unlikely ally, and an even more unlikely new best friend.
Hifumi: That would be none other than Toko Fukawa, AKA the Murderous Fiend, Genocide Jack, who snuck into the city and teamed up with Komaru to survive and fight the Warriors with the intention of rescuing Byakuya Togami, whom they had captured.
Leona: Together they explored and fought their way through armies of Monokuma's, with Toko armed with her taser and her serial killer alter ego armed with scissors...and Komaru armed with what would become her signature weapon: The Future Foundation Hacking Gun.
Tumblr media
Hifumi: Developed by the Future Foundation with the intention of destroying the sentry Monokuma's plaguing the world. Shaped like a Megaphone, the Hacking Gun fires electromagnetic waves that contain programming codes that hack the target mechanism upon contact. Because of this, the Hacking Gun is limited to using on Machines, like Monokuma or the Warriors of Hope Robots. While it is demonstrated that objects like Toko's taser can also be hacked, most of the Gun's effects are not applicable to non-machines.
Leona: But Komaru since the events of Ultra Despair Girls discovered a way around it. The Future Foundation developed a piece of tech called the Synchro-Discs, which automatically snap onto opponents when they make contact, and make biotic lifeforms susceptible to the Hacking Guns effects...Yowch!
Hifumi: Yowch is right! Because Mrs Komaru is capable of doing more than just shooting and destroying this tech. Provided she has the ammunition, the Hacking Gun can do a variety of things with a variety of different bullets; it's most basic offensive feature being the Break Bullet. Komaru launches a blue orb that explodes when it comes into contact with an enemy.
Leona: Then there's the Burn Bullet, another offensive function that does less damage than the Break Bullet but can be fire at a mush faster rate, and gives the opponents the sensation of...well...burning!
Hifumi: A mid-range electric field fired by the Paralyze Bullet has the ability to shock enemies upon contact. Additionally, it can spread if a foe is on the water. If Mrs. Komaru isn't careful, though, this could even include her.
Leona: The Knockback Bullet is an offensive function that has little range and damage, but with enough power to blow enemies and projectiles a good distance away from Komaru. She can also use it to FLY ROBIN FLYYY~
Hifumi: Not "fly" more like propel herself in the air. Then there's the Dance Bullet. An assist feature that renders the opponent defenseless and unable to fight by making them dance.
Leona: The Link Bullet is an assist function that allows Komaru to temporarily gain control of a single enemy. The Bullet looks like a rainbow colored heart, and THAT...is adorable!
Hifumi: The Move Bullet is the Hacking Gun's most basic assist feature. In addition to using it to activate machinery, Komaru can use it to weaponize her surroundings by activating things like a car that collides with her adversaries.
Leona: And last but not least is the Detect Bullet, which works like a flashlight that Komaru can use to look through walls and highlight important objects.
Hifumi: Many a Monokuma and many a machine have fallen to the hands of Komaru Naegi and her itchy trigger finger, and with many an obstacle in her way, Komaru and her partner fought through Towa City, experiencing much trauma and death until they finally reached the mastermind herself. And it was here that many truths came to light...
Leona: The abductors, Ultimate Despair, planned for her and the other hostages to commit suicide together. The 78th Class students, including Komaru's brother Makoto would then see this and use it to persuade them to murder one another. This did not happen, however, because the Mutual Killing Game ended before the motive could be used due to Junko Enoshima's execution.
Hifumi: During the Tragedy, the Towa Group's Monokuma Units were employed as killing machines. In addition, Monaca started producing helmets with Monokuma themes that had the power to brainwash their wearers into becoming submissive slaves for her schemes; by distributing these to different kids, she established the Monokuma Kids.
Leona: And all of the chaos...The Despair...The Murder...The Death...Destruction...Every horrible, terrible thing the sidekick of the Ultimate Despair did...was for one...twisted purpose...
Hifumi: As it turns out, her REAL intention was to send Komaru into a state of such insurmountable Despair and force her to murder every Monokuma Kid that served under her, in order to transform Komaru into "Junko Enoshima II". A war between Future Foundation and Towa City would also result from the murder of the Monokuma Kids, and Monaca very nearly succeeded. Komaru chose to smash the controller and put an end to the madness after Monaca played a video of her parents' deaths in a torture chamber.
Leona: Luckily, Toko was not only able to take the controller off of Komaru, but managed to snap her out of her despairing chance with a loving whack to the face! But in the midst of all this moral chaos, things took a terrible turn, when Big Bang Monokuma attacked!
Hifumi: Towa Group created Big Bang Monokuma, a massive Monokuma kaiju, as a covert weapon to protect the city. But the robot Shirokuma controlled by Junko Enoshima's AI reactivated it to try and kill EVERYBODY. It was in this standoff that Toko Fukawa asked Komaru the big question. Who did she want to save between the adults and the kids?
Leona: To which Komaru told her that she wanted to stop the fighting altogether, and protect and save both from the tyranny of the Towa leaders. Komaru then wiped her tears and confidently battled the giant robot with Toko, eventually taking it down after a long, drawn-out battle. After defeating it, the Big Bang Monokuma's head blasted off into the sky, splitting a large cloud formation and landed upside down on the body!
Hifumi: Let's analyze this feat very quickly just so we can get a scale of how incredible this feat is. Danganronpa Survivor confirms that the energy contained within Big Bang Monokuma is tantamount to about 2 Nuclear Fusion Reactors. It can smash people around with it's giant scepter, blast bolts of lightning, charge and smash it's way through skyscrapers and drop down a Mega Monokuma Bomb that wipe out anything near it! And with their powers combined, and using their special combination attack, the Hope Bullet, Mrs Fukawa and Mrs Komaru were able to take down this tyrant, by themselves, and destroyed it!
Leona: So how strong was the Hope Bullet that was created with the combination of Komaru's hacking gun and Toko's taser?
Hifumi: When the size of the sky split is compared to the size of the head, and the kinetic energy required to displace so much water vapor in a split second is calculated, the energy exerted here equals around 2.3 megatons of TNT, which is comparable to the yield of a hydrogen bomb.
Leona: However, as impressive as that is, and while Komaru and Toko have used this ability since, it doesn't actually work without BOTH of them being present. And since we're only allowing minimal outside help for both sides, Toko won't be present for this fight. Which means that at the most, Komaru would only be yielding about half the power on her own.
Tumblr media
Leona: After the battle was over and Byakuya had been saved, Komaru told Toko and the Future Foundation that she decided to stay at the city, having finally gained confidence in herself after she made her first decision by herself on protecting both the adults and the children, and remained a hostage as to not spark a war involving the Remnants of Despair. And from then on, the Super Dangerous Sisters would get into a lot more hijinks and battles!
Hifumi: They would go on to take on even more opponents, facing down Monaca Towa again, then later her brother Haiji Towa, as well as Organization Zetsubou's Narumi Osone. All the fighting caused Komaru to lose her left leg through torture, and a lot of her sanity and patience, but also her cowardice.
Leona: And hey! She married Toko and adopted a badass little girl too! Never say life is ALL bad! But to round this off, let's go over some physical feats and abilities!
Hifumi: Komaru can keep up with and tag Mrs Fukawa, who can keep up with Sakura Ogami, who can travel from Japan to Prague in an instant. Komaru may have been faster than light from the start, as she was able to avoid a point-blank shot from the hacking gun when Mr Togami fired it. Even if she's not AS fast, and these calculations are an exaggeration, she was also able to dodge lightning from Big Bang Monokuma's attacks, and her reaction speeds are parallel to that of Narumi Osone, as the two fought while falling down an elevator shaft.
Leona: Not to mention she's also escaped a collapsing subway station, can easily outspeed Monokuma units, has dodged shots from a sniper rifle, and used her hacking gun to deflect incoming missiles!
Hifumi: In terms of physical capability, she's not experienced in hand to hand combat and isn't the most powerful puncher, but she is able to hold her own in a physical brawl with her brother, Makoto, who we've already scaled, and the same applies to Narumi Osone.
Leona: In general though, without her hacking gun and gear, she's in a pretty rough spot, especially since Komaru herself isn't the brightest bulb in the box, at least compared to her fellow protags. Her intelligence is average at best and she's not great at coming up with complex plans on her own, even
Hifumi: But what might be her most impressive feats are her incredible durability and survivability skills. Despite claiming to be a pretty average girl, even before her current peak, Komaru Naegi has taken hits from Big Bang Monokuma, several very powerful Monokuma units, and the Warriors of Hope's robots, as well as surviving Narumi Osone's rocket-powered attacks.
Leona: She's also survived a pretty visceral helicopter crash with not many scratches, and has tanked a train crash, missiles, sniper shots AND the collective explosion of ALL of Monaca Towa's Monokuma's, which was strong enough to completely collapse the top of the little shit's tower!
Hifumi: Assuming that the top of the tower is high as the average storey, the explosion took place in a room the height of about 4.3 meters. And based on our calculations and observations, the diameter of the explosion was around 14.35 meters, making the total mass of the explosion around 26.943 Kilograms of TNT.
Leona: With Toko by her side, Komaru has taken on every enemy that's come her way. She defeated all of the Warriors of Hope, aided in the rescue of many adults and children alike and saved Towa City time and time again. Guess heroism and the power of an average person saving the world runs in the family, huh?
Hifumi: I wouldn't be so lenient. Makoto is Makoto...and Komaru...is Komaru.
Tumblr media
Leona: Katie Mitchell's life was completely ordinary in every way. Average home, average-Wait a second...!?"
Hifumi: But certainly a NOT-so average family life.
Tumblr media
Leona: Katie Mitchell is a quirky, aspiring, talented young filmmaker from Kentwood, Michigan, who had just been accepted into film school in California at the time the story begins. But despite being a mostly average, slightly kooky family, home life wasn't all it was cut out to be.
Hifumi: Rick Mitchell, Katie's technophobic and nature-obsessed father, did not see eye to eye with her and her dreams. The family feared their relationship would be permanently strained after Rick broke Katie's laptop the night before she left, following an argument over one of her earlier short films. In an effort to stop this, Rick chose, much to Katie's chagrin, to cancel her flight to California and instead take her, her gregarious and loving mother Linda, her dinosaur-loving, socially anxious younger brother Aaron, and the family dog/pig/loaf of bread, Monchi, on a cross-country road trip to her college as a final experience together.
Leona: Dang, things really are tense around here; it'd be a miracle to believe that a simple road trip would fix all of it...It needs something a little bit more...Some sort of trial that the family can work together and bond over like a...like a...!
Shows scenes of the PAL MAX robots crashing down and tearing up the town and kidnapping people.
Leona: Robot revolution!? Yeah, that works!
Hifumi: Unfortunately for the Mitchell's, the psychotic and deranged AI interface PAL had other plans for them, as well as the rest of humanity. Declared obsolete by her creator, technology entrepreneur Mark Bowman, and ready to be replaced by a line of helper robots, PAL commandeered all of the company robots in order to abduct people all over the world and launch them into space!
Leona: After avoiding capture at a roadstop café in Kansas, and allying themselves with two adorably awkward defective totally-humans Eric and Deborahbot 5000, the quirky, dysfunctional Mitchell family suddenly became humanity's unlikeliest last hope.
Tumblr media
Hifumi: But with the rogue AI being able to take control of any piece of tech that was synced with her, the Mitchell's were going to have a hard time. Fortunately, Katie was able to snag herself the arm cannon of one of the PAL MAX robots, and gained all of it's abilities.
Leona: Aside from a very potent laser blaster that's predominantly used to destroy infrastructure, the Robot Arm Cannon is also equiped with a tractor beam that can grab objects, keep them in stasis, and levitate them in the air! Like the GMod Phys Gun! And when one of these robots like Eric or Deborahbot are by her size, Katie can ride on the back of them like a surfboard, allowing her to fly up to several thousand feet in the air!
Hifumi: Speaking of which, we should probably clarify something here. During the Mitchell's final battle where Eric and Deborahbot helped them against PAL's army, they themselves did not fight the robots, only serving as transportation. Thus, for this fight, we will be allowing Katie to use the robots for this purpose, not counting it as outside help or assistance. They naturally won't be able to fight with her, but it's really not that different from how Courage the Cowardly Dog was able to use his Computer in his fight against Scooby Doo.
Leona: Katie, very much unlike her father, is also a computer genius! She's shown to be incredibly smart, strategic and intelligent, and she was able to figure out that Eric and Deborahbot were defective as soon as she got even the slightest hint. She can work out tech very easily, like how she was able to use the functions of the robot arm seconds after attaining it. She's also capable of...minor toon force I guess?
Hifumi: More specifically, Katie as a filmmaker and somewhat conscious of her own world being a film, is capable of Entertainment and Digital Materialization. She can bring to life and wield the worlds created by various forms of entertainment, films in her case, into reality. However, these powers are limited by Katie's own imagination/creativity, and...she can't really use these to fight, only to make dramatic scenes way funnier.
Leona: The Mitchell's plan was to use a kill code embedded in the PAL MAX robots memory to shut down PAL and all her robots, so they headed to a mall in eastern Colorado to upload it, but...SURPRISE! The mall was FILLED with PAL chip-enabled appliances that tried to stop them...including this GIANT! FUCKING! FURBBYYYY!
Hifumi: The battle was hard fought, and during it, Katie was able to show off that she was more of a badass than anyone gave her credit for. She was able to dodge drink cans moving at the speed of bullets, strong enough to break reinforced glass, and she moved with such strength and accuracy, she snared a speeding drone with a fishing rod and threw it directly into a small microwave. She also dodged a laser blast fired by the Elder Furby...Because...Furby's can...fire lasers...Yeah...
Cut to scene of Katie screaming "Why would someone build that!?" as her family are attacked by the Elder Furby.
Leona: Yeah, don't think about it too hard. I mean...It's a giant-ass furby. That much makes the realism clear.
Hifumi: While trapping and defeating the Elder Furby, the Mitchells accidentally destroyed a PAL router, rendering the hostile devices inoperable but preventing the upload of the kill code. While traveling to Silicon Valley to upload the kill code straight to PAL, Linda told Katie that she and Rick had once lived in a mountain cabin with Katie, because Rick had always wanted to live there, but had given up on the idea.
Leona: Only after PAL manipulated the Mitchell's and kidnapped Rick and Linda did Katie find out why. After watching some recordings on her camera that Rick had filmed when she was a child, she realized that Rick gave up on his dreams so that Katie could live a normal life as a normal kid. Meanwhile, Rick reflected on his own actions after watching one of Katie's videos that reflected his strained relationship with his daughter.
Tumblr media
Hifumi: Reenergized, Katie and Aaron crashed back into PAL Labs headquarters, only to be apprehended themselves. Katie defended the idea of saving humanity by pointing out to PAL that despite their differences, her family would always be connected, despite their hardships.
Leona: PAL didn't accept this reasoning and proceeded to drop Katie from the top of her lair, really high up, but Katie was saved by Rick and the robots, and the two were able to put their differences aside and KICK TOTAL ASS!
Hifumi: Despite being what would basically be several thousand feet in the sky, both Katie and Rick were able to keep pace with and avoid PAL's upgraded security robots, which were far stronger and far more deadly. The young movie geek was able to dodge lasers, blades that moved lightning fast, and react in time to snare them with her arm cannon and destroy them one by one!
Leona: These robots were able to move from one side of the screen to the other in what we calculated was 180 milliseconds, or 0.18 seconds, and assuming the close relative distance is right (we're honestly getting a bit metaphysical with this) that should but them at speeds of about 246.212 miles per hour
Hifumi: As the Mitchells banded together to fight the rest of the robots, Katie ultimately destroyed PAL by tossing her into a glass of water...and somehow managing to survive, for the most part, the entire collapse of the floating laboratory. The humans were freed and the robots were all deactivated, with the exception of Eric and Deborahbot thanks to their malfunction.
Leona: Hooray! A few months after the uprising, Katie and her family arrived at her college as she shared one last goodbye with them, finally coming to terms and accepting her weird home for what it was.
Hifumi: Later, she went to Washington, D.C. with them on another road trip, accepting the Congressional Gold Medal from the government to express their gratitude to the eccentric girl and her equally eccentric family, for stopping the robot apocalypse and sparing humanity a life of torment.
Leona: Oh...She's not JUST some eccentric girl...SHE's a MITCHELL!
Tumblr media
Hifumi: Alright, the combatants are set! Let's end this debate once and for all!
Leona: IT'S TIME FOR A DEEAAATH BAAATTLLLLLLEEE!
Tumblr media
The setting sun serves as the background of a destroyed city, as a girl clad in a red jacket rides atop a flying robot, high above the wreckage. Katie Mitchell, in one hand, holds a replica of the robots arm like a weapon.
Eric: Slovenly Girl. May I ask what it is we're doing here? I believe this path takes us towards the robot oppressors, not away from them.
Katie: I told Aaron I'd come back to get his favorite dinosaur doll.
Eric: We are going back for a doll? Is that really worth it?
Katie: So worth it. That thing's important to him. He won't be able to sleep without it, and even then, it-
*POWW!*
Eric: ERROR! ERROR!
Katie: ERIC!?
Katie's speech to her robot ride is interrupted as Eric suddenly gets blasted in the face by a flash of blue code! It doesn't immediately destroy him, but he and Katie fall to the ground, with Katie having to drop and roll along the top of a building, while Eric faceplants and collapses on the edge of the building, just barely falling off.
Katie: Who da what da wha!?
Katie lifts her head and sees Komaru Naegi propels herself to the rooftop parallel, coming to a sliding stop. Katie immediately zeroes in on her metal leg.
Katie: Woah...! Winter Soldier girl...!
Komaru: Winter Soldier's got a metal arm, not a metal leg. Whatever! This area was supposed to be evacuated of civilians hours ago! Those guys are coming back, so get the hell out of here!
Katie: Ma'am, I'm not trying to be rude, but I've been through this before with way worse odds. I appreciate the help, but I just gotta go grab something and I'll be on my-
Katie tries to hurry to the edge of the roof to retrieve Eric, but Komaru propels herself onto the rooftop with her hacking gun and stands in her way, holding her arms out and blocking Katie from advancing.
Komaru: Are you deaf!? If you stay here, you're going to diiiiiiAAAGH!?
youtube
Komaru feels her body freeze in place, leaving her immobile. When she looks up, she sees Katie snaking her up and using the arm cannon to keep her still and lift her up. Katie tosses Komaru away, her face displaying discontent.
When Komaru lands on a nearby roof, he sees that Katie has picked Eric back up and is now riding on him.
Komaru: Why can't it ever be easy!? HAGH!
Katie: Huh!? GUAGH!
Komaru launches herself forward for a high-speed kick with her hacking gun, but Katie is able to block and raise her arm to deflect her back. Katie believes she has warded off the Little Sister of Hope when she lands back on the rooftops of the skyscrapers, but then she feels something hit her in the back.
Komaru: KNOCKBACK!
Katie: WOAAGGH!?
Komaru leaps off the building and hurtles forward, hitting Katie with a knockback bullet that propels her and her craft skyward. Katie looks behind her back to see the synchro-discs stuck to her.
Katie: Discs...? Wait...did she put those on me so she could shoot me with that gun of hers?
Komaru: HYAGH!
Katie: Gagh!
*BOOOM!*
Komaru: HRGH!?
Komaru tries to attack Katie from behind while she is preoccupied, but Katie spins around and shoots her with the blaster on the robot arm. Komaru uses her hacking gun to avoid the blast in time, rolling onto the roof. After that, Katie aims with the blaster and starts firing at Komaru, who deflects the bullets with her own before moving closer, blasting herself up into the air as Katie starts to gain altitude.
Katie: Make sure you catch me!
Katie disconnects from Eric and lets herself fall back to the ground far far below, with Komaru giving chase. The two girls show their skills at shooting and dodging each other's shots as they engage in a shootout.
Komaru: Dangit...! I'm trying to HELP!
Katie: And I APPRECIATE that! But I've got a family to look out for!
Komaru charges again after being pushed back, only to be caught in Katie's tractor beam once more. Then, she is launched straight toward the ground after being whirled around in midair. The overlay shows dramatic hand-drawn explosion effects to emphasize Katie's hit, despite the fact the damage on the Ultra Despair Girl is fairly minimal. Katie laughs and lands carefully back on Eric's back as they start flying away.
Komaru: Gah...Why is it ALWAYS kids!?
Komaru huffs out this dialogue as she reloads her Hacking Gun and blasts herself into the air again, running on the rooftops after Katie. The moviemaker only notices Komaru catching up when she's right on top of her.
Komaru: PARALYZE!
Katie: gUaAgHaGhAaGhAhGhAgHaGhAgH!
Komaru approaches Katie from behind and uses a Paralyze Bullet to shock her at point blank range. As Katie is jittering about in pain while her muscles tense up, the screen suddenly freezes to focus in on her petrified face.
Katie (internally): You know what this scene kind of reminds me of?
The scene switches to a YouTube video of a gibbon monkey screaming hysterically. With "Youtube Poop"-style editing, the scene quickly cuts back and forth between Katie and the monkey screaming. Then, Katie's face is superimposed on that of the gibbon, and vice versa. It's the kind of video that could only be made by an artistic teenager who has recently purchased editing software.
Katie (internally): Yeah, it's not as funny when it's happening to me...
The fight resumes abruptly as Komaru leaps in legs first, attempting to smash Katie into the wall. However, now that she is certain of what the discs do, Katie flings off her jacket and overcomes her paralysis. With a quick thinking move, she grabs hold of Komaru with her Tractor Beam and throws her through the wall, with both girls flying into the building and flailing around like cartoon characters as they navigate the obstacles inside until they emerge on the other side.
Komaru grabs onto the edge of the building while Katie grabs Eric's hand, and the two girls spin around to blast each other, when all of a sudden, the sound of a phone ringing interrupts them.
Komaru: Huh? Oh! S-Sorry, I've gotta take this!
Katie: Huh!?
Komaru: Yeah-uh-hold on, I'll be just a minute...
Katie pulls herself up onto Eric, crossing her arms as she sits down and patiently waits for Komaru to finish her phone call.
Komaru: Toko? Yeah, it's ok, I'll be back soon...This random kid is messing with me...No, she's NOT kicking my ass...No...Yes...Huh? Wait, I thought YOU said you were gonna go pick her up? The city's KIND of being destroyed you know?
Katie: ...
Komaru: No, no, it's ok, don't worry. I'll pick her up and take her home, then I'll get back to work...What? Yeah, no problem. Yes...Low fat milk? Yeah, sure. Okay, love you too. Bye~"
She hangs up.
Katie: You have a kid?
Komaru: Family, am I right?
Katie: Being an adult sounds like it sucks...
Komaru: It REALLY does...I'm good now though!
Komaru gives Katie a thumbs up and the two immediately get back to fighting. After dodging her opponent and running around her, Komaru leaps to try to shoot Katie once more. Katie ducks and tries to snare Komaru yet again, but this time the Naegi anticipates her move and turns in midair to block Katie's Tractor Beam with a Link Bullet.
Katie is given a fright as Komaru's hacking gun syncs with her weapon, and causes it's beam to fire on Katie herself. Katie becomes immobilized, causing her to fall off Eric's back and onto the destroyed road below.
Katie: Ugh...HEY!
Komaru: DANCE!
*POW!*
Eric: Huh!? Oh...Oh dear...! Oh no...! My hands are in the air like I just do not care!
Katie: Ah...Ahaha...AGH!?
Eric tries to land on the road to grab Katie as she gets back up, but Komaru jumps in and shoots Eric with a Dance Bullet. Eric starts dancing uncontrollably and reacts to it about how you'd expect, unable to control his own movements as he boogies down. Katie gives a slight grin of amusement at it, but immediately snaps back to the moment when Komaru shoots at her again.
With Katie's transport out of commission, she's forced to run along the pavements and dodge Komaru's shots while firing back some of her own. Komaru and Katie keep exchanging gunfire and dodging the other's blasts as they dash across the city between the buildings. Komaru slows down as they turn a corner and realizes they've arrived in the parking lot of a supermall. This gives her an idea. But Katie also receives one of her own.
Katie: GRRAAGGH!
Komaru: YAGH!?
*CRAAASH!*
Hrugh!
*POOW!*
Katie: Woah!? Phew...WAAGH!?
The first to move is Katie, who uses her Tractor Beam to lift and toss a parked car at Komaru. Komaru, however, falls and slides beneath the incoming car, narrowly avoiding being crushed into dust! Then she takes aim at two of the cars in the lot and fires a Move Bullet. As Katie leaps to avoid the first one, the second one hits hard, propelling her in the direction of Komaru, who catches her by the collar of her shirt and applies another Synchro-disc to her forehead. However, Katie raises her cannon and tries to shoot Komaru in the stomach before the girl has a chance to react. But then...
Komaru: You won't be needing THIS anymore!
*POW!* *BOOOM!*
Komaru & Katie: GUGH!
Before Katie can shoot Komaru, Komaru raises her Hacking Gun and shoots Katie's cannon with a Break Bullet, which completely destroys it. There's an explosion which results in Komaru being thrown onto the bonnet of a car, and Katie being thrown through the supermall window. Katie is slightly pained, but ignores the feeling and begins to panic, as she is now defenseless...Or so she thinks...
Katie notices a tool store out of the corner of her eye as she considers her next move. In the overlay, hurriedly drawn arrows labeled "CONVINIENT" point in the direction of the store, while a hand-animated lightbulb dings above Katie's head. While Komaru gets to her feet and trudges into the store holding her weapon, she flees inside to hide.
Komaru hurries through the mall until she comes into the main area, seeing no sign of Katie around her.
Komaru: Ok kid, you can come out! Your tech's been wrecked and now you're out of options! Just give up!
Katie: HYAAAAGGH!
Komaru: Huh!?
*YOINK!* *WHIIIIRR!*
Komaru: NO!
Katie: Hyagh!
*KERBONK!* *BEEP!* *BOOOOOOOOOOMM!*
Katie drops down from the level above brandishing a fishing rod, and to Komaru's horror, the moviemaker throws the line forward and snags Komaru's Hacking Gun! She then flings the Hacking Gun into an abandoned kitchen appliance store, where it lands inside a microwave, and subsequently EXPLODES, taking the store with it! Katie smugly drops the rod and dusts off her hands.
Katie: Who's out of options NOW? -AGH!?
And just like that, the shootout becomes a FIST FIGHT! However, both girls' limited knowledge of hand to hand starts to show. Katie ducks under Komaru's uncomfortably heavy right hook attempt to punch her. Katie then begins repeatedly hitting Komaru with her hands, but the Ultra Despair Girl is able to evade her blows.
Komaru: GRRRR!
Katie: GRRRR!
The two girls keep punching and kicking each other in an endless cycle until all of a sudden Katie enters from the left and begins to punch Komaru in the shoulder. After blocking, she begins to strike repeatedly with her elbow, knocking Katie out of her reach.
Komaru: ENOUGH-DUHUGH!?
When Komaru tries to rush in for a follow-up, Katie hurls her shoe at her face.
Katie: HAHAGH! DOH!?
Komaru retaliates, hurling her metal leg in her face.
Thus...this random cartoonish back and forth continues until Komaru and Katie are both completely debilitated. Their punches and kicks slowly devolve into the two of them just brainlessly slapping each other.
Komaru: Huuaagh...Huuaagh...Huuaaaaagh...
Katie: Haaaah...Haaaah...Haaaaaah...UGH...! GRAAGH
Komaru: AHAGH...! GRAAGH!
Komaru & Katie (slow-motion): OOOOOOOOOOOOGGGHHH!
An hand-drawn animated overlay pops up again as Komaru and Katie land possibly the weakest final punches on each other as they can, featuring several stock image explosions that slowly fill the screen until it's covered entirely, reinforcing the lazy hits as SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful than they actually are. Komaru and Katie then both fall backwards, lying flat on the ground. Both of them are gasping for breath, completely exhausted.
Komaru: This...is the stupidest...thing...ever...!
Katie: I've...seen...stupider...! Haah...Oh!
Katie hangs her head back and as she does, she suddenly sees a familiar looking dinosaur plushy sitting on top of a bin.
Katie: Oh, so THAT'S where he left it...
Still devoid of strength, Katie gets up and approaches the dinosaur doll, grabbing it and picking it up. Komaru also pulls herself to her feet, but then the ground around them starts to quake. The girls' screams are barely audible as they use their last bits of strength to avoid the falling debris as the mall's roof collapses. When the camera pans out, a massive Monokuma and a number of PAL MAX robots can be seen hovering over them.
Komaru: SEE!? THIS was what I was trying to warn you about!? You seriously flew all the way back into the jaws of death just to get a stuffed animal!?
Katie: Wouldn't you do the same for your family if they left something precious behind?
Komaru: ...
Katie: ...
Komaru: Touché Capitano...I guess we're both losers here...
Katie: I've learned that it's ok to be that way.
Just as things look bleak, Komaru and Katie suddenly hear some shouting above them as the sound of a helicopter draws near. Some familiar faces of the Future Foundation poke their heads out and drop down two packages, with each of the girls catching one. Komaru gets a new Hacking Gun and Katie gets a new Robot Arm Cannon. At the same time, Eric returns, accompanied by Deborahbot5000, and the two land next to the Mitchell and the Naegi.
Komaru: We can pick this up another time...How about whoever takes out the most robots wins?
Katie: Bet!
Katie and Komaru jump on top of Eric and Deborahbot5000 respectively, and the two robots launch both girls into the fray!
Tumblr media
Leona: Wait...what? Wait...HUH!? But...WHAT!? But you-!? But she-!? WHAAAT!?
Hifumi: Let's...break this down...
Tumblr media
Hifumi: Let's start by talking about both geeky girls innate powers and abilities, to which they...don't have much. Katie does have her overlay editing, but that has never been used in a combative scenario and is really just a figment of her imagination. Similarly, Komaru may have mechanical limbs and implants, but the leg has been stated numerous times to just be a really well-made prosthetic, with no special abilities.
Leona: Yeah, they're both a bit weird and geeky, but they're also both basically total normies that don't stick out on their own. So in a situation like this, the battle would come down to tech and weaponry.
Hifumi: Between the Hacking Gun and the Arm Cannon, their respective weapons, Katie Mitchell's was the more deadly of the two. The Arm Cannon CAN fire off super-powered energy blasts that blow up buildings and create huge explosions and property damage.
Leona: With that being said, the cannons are specifically designed to destroy infrastructure to help the robots TRAP humans. The robots never actually fire their weapons AT their human victims, and instead capture them using their Tractor Beams. And even putting that aside, assuming they DID fire at humans, it's unlikely that even with it's power, it would be able to stop Komaru!
Hifumi: Komaru has survived explosions and energy blasts from Narumi Osone's gauntlets, which DEFINITELY STRONGER than Katie's cannon, and she's tanked explosions stronger than even that. If Komaru was hit dead on with the cannon, it would hardly hurt her, much less kill her.
Leona: But Katie had more than one option of putting Komaru down, like using the cannon's Tractor Beam to hold Komaru in place, and toss her around like a human ragdoll until she succumbs.
Hifumi: But therein lies Katie's biggest setback, being the Hacking Gun's abilities to destroy and disable tech with it's various truth bullets. Basically, most of Katie Mitchell's arsenal could be countered with Komaru's bullets alone. Even if destroying them was a tedious possibility, she could use the Dance and Link Bullets to render her robot transport inoperable for a while, and could use the Synchro-Discs to damage Katie directly herself.
Leona: But in a normal situation, this wouldn't be a surefire way to win EITHER. Katie is very adept when it comes to tech, and if she was able to figure out that Deborahbot and Eric were defective through one interaction, it wouldn't take her long to figure out what the purpose of the Synchro-Discs are and how they function, which would give her multiple ways to counter them. And while Katie possesses an arsenal of tech-related equipment and weapons, Komaru really just has the Hacking Gun and Synchro-Discs. If Katie could disarm or destroy Komaru's weapon, which was very possible with her own tools, she could render Komaru mostly vulnerable, earning her the win.
Hifumi: Therefore, fight really comes down to their own stats, and whose are greater, but as it turns out...They're BASICALLY the same with only a few minor exceptions! The first is that of the two, Komaru is the more physically capable and experienced fighter of the two. If it came down to a physical brawl, Komaru outmatches Katie in terms of confrontation fisticuffs.
Leona: BUT not enough that it would give her a clear advantage! Komaru is adept with handling a Hacking Gun, but isn't physically powerful enough to match someone like Genocide Jill, so without some sort of hacking tech at her disposal, she's kind of a sitting duck. Katie on the other hand, despite not having as much experience, is FAR more intelligent and FAR more calculating and cunning than Dekomaru over here. She's fought against armies of robots that are far stronger than she is with little guidance, so with that in mind, physical prowess didn't hold much of a sway over her.
Hifumi: In terms of physical stats like strength and speed, the two characters who Komaru and Katie can be compared most closely to are Toko Fukawa and Linda Mitchell respectively, but in the end, it can really only be done so in terms of speed. While Ms Fukawa has been training to cancel it out, each character's inner strength is only brought out through external circumstances. Fukawa is only heavily dangerous when she switches into Genocide Jill, and Linda Mitchell only goes on a rampage when Aaron's safety is put in danger.
Leona: Speaking of speed, in a confrontation like this, it's probably the most important thing to bring up. If Komaru and Katie's tech can counter and destroy each other, the fight really comes down to who can win a quick draw.
Hifumi: Both Komaru AND Katie have fought and battled HUNDREDS of enemy machines at once, being able to avoid their attacks and keep pace despite their opponent's incredible speed, and both have shown an unmatched reactionary feats that go into the realm of above relativistic.
Leona: Like how both are capable of dodging objects that fly at bullet-speed, and how both have taken on giant opponents with faster than light attacks, which they were able to dodge; Big Bang Monokuma for Komaru and the Elder Furby for Katie. Komaru was also able to react so quickly and accurately that she could dodge and counter Narumi Osone's rocket-like blasts, and Katie could perfectly snare a speeding drone mid-flight with a fishing rod. Effectively, this quick-draw scenario...doesn't have a definitive victor either.
Hifumi: Lastly is durability. Komaru can take hits from Big Bang Monokuma and the robots used by the Warriors of Hope, survived a helicopter crash, AND the collective explosion of all of Monaca's robots.
Leona: And KATIE has ALSO tanked a giant explosion that blew up a car park, survived being tackled by PAL MAX robots, and withstood the destruction following the collapse of the PAL Labs headquarters!
Hifumi: Even if it's shocking to think about, it seems that with a few tiny exceptions for BOTH SIDES, in every single way, Komaru Naegi and Katie Mitchell can match each other blow for blow for BLOW!
Leona: Which essentially means that if we were to put them against each other about 100 times, their final win/lose score ratio would be almost exactly 50:50!
Hifumi: All in all, Komaru and Katie were both incredibly tough opponents with tech-savvy skills and strong family values. They were both strong, fast, powerful, and yet had no means of ever sweeping the rug out from under the other.
Leona: I guess you could say they both girls had a ferocious bark and an even more ferocious "byte!" ...Get it? Like...Like terabyte?
Hifumi: Yes, YES...! Ugh...I get it...!

The Kisaragi Foundation
[Part 1]
*Moments later, someone pick up*
???: Yes, this is Rei Mekaru - who is this?
Tumblr media
Ah excellent, made it through - hello, this is head of the 7th Division, Miaya Gekkogahara from Future Foundation...
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Right Future Foundation, right of course - we haven't spoken until we got your assistance with Kojiro Otori to stop the funds he was giving to the Ultimate Despairs a couple of months back.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Yes... I do want to ask if his son was okay after killing his own father?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Well as say, he did take some time off but he's doing a bit better for the most part, thank you for the concern.
Tumblr media
Now can you explain what's going on? Is it regarding Void?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
No, it hasn't but we do require some assistance however it's not that major.
Tumblr media
You see, we were inform about Monaca Towa and seems those at the orphanage are planning to work on it but the problem is that they need someone to watch the kids while they try to cut off her resources.
Tumblr media
Which sadly Future Foundation is having a mass investigation going on due to Hope's Peak and everyone in my Division is pre-occupied so could you send someone over to our Foundation to the orphanage near Towa City if you can?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
I see... well sadly, I don't think we have anyone on our staff that could assist you with this...
Tumblr media
We are still in search of Mikado Sannoji and a lot of staff is pre-occupied, apologies.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
I see... well if you find anyone can you please inform me as soon as you do? It's very urgent.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
I'll be certain to inform you once we do, apologies...
*CLICK!*
Tumblr media
So it seems Future Foundation is having a mass investigation... I wonder what happen?
*Rei looks at a card and a picture*

al i am asking (begging) u for tokomaru casual wear hcs. like what styles do they wear most and in what situations
RYM HELLO BESTIE IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED
So I think that in any situation comfort is very important to both of them. They aren't the types to wear anything too wild for the look, they're pretty casual.
I think in canon post game, they'd wear whatever they could get around towa city, or maybe future foundation could provide them something, but regardless its pretty basic utilitarian clothes, but again decently comfortable.
In situations where they don't have such limited options tho?
For Komaru, I think she's a small shirt small pants gay, but sometimes she steals Toko’s big shirts. I think she'd be kinda preppy? I think thats the word I'm looking for? Pretty light in vibe, think tennis skirts and stuff,, but I think she'd like chunky/boxy silhouettes, ESPECIALLY chunky tennis shoes. And crop tops, she would slay a good crop top.
Toko is a big shirt big pants gay. Every once in a while she'll steal one of Komaru’s shirts, but she definitely always has her legs covered. She likes a lot of sweaters and long sleeves, and slip on shoes. She high key dresses like a librarian, but like, in a good way. Maybe let's call it light academia lol. Very rarely wears jewelry, and if she does its v dainty.
Example here:
Tumblr media
But really, more than anything they love spending the day in pajamas, in which the big and small rules still apply

May i req class78 survivors on a mission impossible type mission 😛😛 i'd love to see how u perceive their dynamic (i can just HEAR byakuya yelling at everybody)
class 78 future foundation members on a mission!!
♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧♤♧
makoto, byakuya, kyoko, and yasuhiro are all in the 14th division of the ff, which involves public relations, recruiting new members, spreading news
aoi is in the 13th division which handles front-line food and resource distribution
and toko is still an intern
so, if they all somehow were assigned to a mission together it would go like this:
kyoko is in charge due to her being the leader of the 14th division
she, byakuya, yasuhiro, and makoto are on the front lines, seeking out survivors of the ultimate despairs' attacks and recruiting them for the organization
aoi is in charge of providing two-way communication between the organization and the members out on the field
she also provides first aid, sustenance, and general information
toko is allowed to go with the group, but mostly watches from afar with aoi, so she can get experience in the field but also be monitored
most of the time missions go well, and there is minimal danger
but sometimes, when things get really bad, they let genocide jack run loose
byakuya fought against it, of course, but no one else cares
gj gets the job done
and you're right, byakuya is definitely yelling, but he only yells at yasuhiro and toko because kyoko would shut him down real quick
since towa city is basically ground zero for the production of those deadly monokumas, the five are usually assigned to patrol the island, and clear as much as possible
everyone is equipped with those megaphone guns, except toko, which she complains about, so she clings to byakuya to keep her safe
makoto and kyoko are always at the front of the group, sprinting forward into action with their weapons
byakuya is in the middle, only because toko keeps dragging him behind (kicking and screaming)
yasuhiro is always at the back of the group because dude is not fast, he's always yelling at everyone to wait up
aoi discreetly follows them by taking shortcuts through buildings, acting as backup if the main 5 get in trouble
they're actually really efficient at getting things done
one time, though, things were getting really tricky, and the main five were surrounded by beast monokumas
genocider was doing her best to bring them down with her trusty scissors, and makoto, byakuya, yasuhiro, and kyoko stood in a circle, firing at them from all directions
aoi was watching from a nearby building, and noticed they were surrounded, so she had to think fast
her only plan was to run outside and act as bait, so the monokumas would see her and follow, giving the others a chance to escape
genocider passed out, so yasuhiro tanked her up onto his back, and they ran, leaving aoi to climb on top of a car to avoid the beasts
"get back to the helicopter! i'll save aoi!" kyoko yelled, turning around and running straight back to the crowd
she noticed a window just above the car, and ran into the building it belonged to
luckily, kyoko was strong
from the open window, she dangled halfway out of it, grabbing aoi's hand
singlehandedly, kyoko hoisted aoi up to the windowsill with her, and her rescue mission was complete
from there, they rejoined with the main five, jumped into the helicopter, and were off to hq

You and Byakuya had a ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy: you didn’t ask where he went or who he was with when he came home days after he left with no warning. He never told you when he decided he was sick of the monogamy he’d promised you and reverted back to ‘traditional Togami ways’. It was better for everyone, you assured yourself when the mirror began to mock you. It sounded like his voice. You wouldn’t know, maybe even remember the way his voice rose and fell around his clever words- he’d been gone for two weeks at that point.
Your ‘relationship’, or whatever it was, with Komaeda had begun purely out of spite. The Foundation had, for lack of a better word, given him to the Togami Coorporation after rehabilitation. He had sought… ‘strong guidance’, and the Foundation couldn’t find an issue with that, as long as it was the right kind. They’d left him at the disposal of Byakuya and it wasn’t long before the ex-Remnant of Despair, the arguable mastermind behind the destruction of Towa city and its surrounding regions, the one who’d truly begun the killing in the bugged version of the Neo-World Program was little but a glorified housemaid. It reminded you of what Byakuya had done to you.
You’d been cunning, ambitious, intelligent, even. You’d been among the survivors of the 78th class’s Killing Game. Being the Ultimate Housewife took cleverness and the ability to both micromanage and delegate. Being able to keep track of all the moving pieces at once. It had translated easily enough to the Foundation’s specialized branches. You’d made it up through the ranks of the Foundation, you’d been there to watch over the Remnants, you’d gone on every mission they needed from you- but you’d made a mistake that rendered those years of field experience useless. You’d been swayed by Byakuya’s proposal.
It was curt, quick, but he had that smile he only ever gave to you on his face, the one that had kept you going throughout the dark, despairing years. Everything after he slipped the ring onto your finger was a whirlwind culminating in your marriage, and shortly after being relegated to little more than another trophy of his. You still worked for the Foundation, but you were little more than a secretary, sorting through paperwork and managing outreach to Byakuya and other higherups from your house. Now, you sat around the chateau that had survived through the wreckage that was the new world. Occasionally Makoto or Kyoko dropped by, but even then it was usually to see Byakuya. Any friends you’d ever made who weren’t dead were constantly busy trying to put the pieces of the world back together. You knew more than anything you lived one of the most charmed lives on the planet, but it was still glamorized solitary. You were a caged songbird with clipped wings.
You couldn’t help but keep your eyes on the war criminal inside your house. The rest of the staff was terrified of him. They’d even come up to you, begging on their hands and knees to trade shifts so they wouldn’t have to be around him for long. Eventually, you’d had to sort out schedules so that Komaeda was always alone, but he never seemed to mind, and to his credit, he did the work of four. After so many complaints you realized that you’d have to go sort him out yourself- after all, even though he was technically his employer, Byakuya was as reliable around the house as a bucket with a hole. You’d gone down to the first floor when he was tasked with its upkeep that day.
Even though you knew that there was no possible way he could have gotten his hands on anything dangerous, there were even guards assigned to watch Komaeda’s every move (through cameras, even they couldn’t stomach his presence) each step towards the room you could hear him humming from felt as though you were stepping through a wave of pure dread. The handlers assigned to him had even assured you and Byakuya both that he was physically weak as the average preteen and would show the signs of his malnourishment for quite a while.
But you weren’t stupid. You knew that Komaeda’s weapons had always been his mind and mouth, and you knew those were some of the most dangerous.
He was cleaning the tiles with a mop, whistling broken notes to a tune you’d never heard. He heard you approach and he looked up expectantly, as if waiting for his next command. When he took in your appearance, his face broke out into a smile. Your stomach tossed. You thought you might be sick.
He adjusted the light, black jacket he was wearing. It was over a grey button down and khaki slacks- the masculine version of the housekeeping uniform all of Byakuya’s housekeepers wore. It was almost funny to you, that now he was even wearing a uniform. You’d seen pictures of him when you still worked, when the Foundation was still hunting him down. He’d been scraggly and everything about him screamed haphazard. His white hair looked tangled, even in photos, and he seemed dangerously thin- he looked much better now. His face had color, and his eyes-
“Togami-sama?” Komaeda straightened himself out, leaning a bit on the mop. “Ah, what can I do for you?” Even slouched over, he was taller than you. “I’m sorry, I’m not quite done with the floors yet. I apologize for my incompetence. My skills are… surely less than qualified for a house as stunning as this.” He smiled crookedly. To see him smile so easily was-
“I- I’m sorry, I must have wandered into the wrong room.” You cleared your throat and turned away. “Goodbye.”
“Goodbye, Togami-sama! Nice to finally meet you!” He chirped. Your heels echoed down the hardwood as you hurried away. You understood why so many people had wanted to get away from him. ‘It was his mind, his mouth…’ You recalled. ‘His mouth… Oh, fuck.’
*****
Komaeda had been quickly reassigned as your personal live-in servant. It was simply easier than having to constantly rearrange the schedules and have to deal with the fear he inspired in other people. For two weeks, his presence loomed over you, though he never approached you without being asked. He seemed to keep showing up in places you were going to. ‘Could I prepare you a tea, ma’am?’ He asked when you approached the kitchens for breakfast. ‘It’s quite sunny out, would you like me to bring you an umbrella?’ He said when he passed by the door to the garden you’d been heading out. ‘Is there anything at all I can do or bring for you?’ He repeated, every night, as you made your way around the house, checking on the state of it before going to bed.
You felt guilty not assigning him anything, but you just couldn’t bring yourself to. But he walked away, dejected in a way his permanent smile did not hide- a servant with nothing to serve. You knew that pain well. Each day you walked into a room whose dusting you wanted to touch up and another cleaner came running in, head bowed and apologizing profusely before finishing. Every time you snuck into the kitchens and pulled out the ingredients for a grand cake that’s taste you craved as badly as the satisfaction of baking it and a chef walked in with the menu for the day they needed to prepare for everyone. Every night in that grandiose California King bed with its soft, silken sheets you spent alone.
It was like Byakuya knew what he was doing. It was a fate people only spoke of in whispers- or at least, the housestaff did, and that’s all you really had the chance to hear- to be an Ultimate with no talent to practice. It was an aberration. Everything was done by the halves: a house, but not a home, to keep. A husband, but only in name most days, who spent most of his time with other women.
On the fifteenth day, you cracked.
     “How do you… keep smiling?”
He looked up from the closet the cleaning supplies were kept in. You knew everything that was kept in there, once upon a time. The first time a product showed up you had never heard about it broke your heart. You pushed the memory aside as his eyes met yours.
     “I’m- I’m sorry, ma’am?”
“It’s nothing, really. Nevermind.” You shook your head. Made your way to continue on, like you hadn’t come all the way down here just to find him.
“My apologies, I just thought I misheard you.” He seemed to be thinking as he continued to put things away. More things you didn’t recognize, you realized bitterly. “...I don’t think I’ve ever been asked a question like that.” He said softly. You wanted to say something, but no words would have fit right in the space. Not from you, at least. “I take care to find things to smile for. We have to keep moving towards hope, I think. There’s nothing else, is there?”
The sound of things moving around in a cabinet you could not see. Nothing else.
     “Komaeda?”
     “Yes ma’am?”
“Will you…” You dug your manicured nail into your palm. You loathed asking for help. “Will you aid me in taking inventory of our food and cleaning supplies today? I’d like to be more… aware of the going ons in the house.”
“It would be my pleasure.” He said eagerly. You didn’t doubt that it was.

Despite her wariness at Chisa reccommending her for this mission, she ended up doing it anyway. She just couldn't let anyone else get caught in a trap.
So, here she was. Hidden away on the helicopter headed for Towa City. All those stealth games are coming in handy now. Being the former Ultimate Gamer has it's perks. Once the other people inside the helicopter left, she got ready to leave quietly. Before she could do that though, she noticed someone else sneaking their way off. ...Is that... Fukawa-san? I don't think she was sent on a secret mission like me... She must've gone on her own. ...I guess that's not surprising. Togami-kun's the one leading this operation, and she's always following him around...
After Toko went off on her own, Chiaki ran off as well, making sure to go in the opposite direction. Her job was to act as back-up in case something happens, so for now, she is to stay on stand-by.
After a while, walking around got kinda boring. Even with all the Monokuma robots and the creepy, giggling children. I wanna go home... This is a lot more boring than I thought it'd be... I wanna play games with Kamukura-kun and Komaeda-kun again. She was broken out of her internal pouting by a shriek coming from up ahead. Rushing forward, she readied her hacking gun to shoot.
When she finally arrived at the scene, she saw what looked like Toko and another girl in a school uniform struggling against a hoard of Monokumas. 'Toko' cackled and twirled the scissors in her hands, slicing them into a nearby Monokuma's 'throat'. "Oh, what the hell!? These things just don't stop coming! Do those brats have some eternal Monokuma factory nearby or something!? What a pain! I don't have nearly enough scissors for all of them!"
"T-Toko! W-what do we do now?! I-I-I don't have any more bullets! A-and there's s-so many of them! W-w-we-we're done f-for-!"
"Not quite yet! You're not done yet!" Chiaki rushed over and shot the nearest Monokumas all in the eye, destorying them immediately. "That uniform... Another Future Foundation member!? I thought only Master's team was sent here, what the hell are YOU doing here, huh!? Answer me!" 'Toko' seemed oddly put off by her presence. "There's no time for that right now! We need to deal with these Monokumas first. Questions can come later."
"R-right! I-I can't do much right now b-but... I can distract them at least!" The unfamiliar girl stood up, and seemed to be gearing herself up. "Alright! I've done enough crying, time to get started! I-I'll start by... running around annoyingly in circles! that'll draw their attention for sure!"
"Wha- Dekomaru! You keep your ass right where I can see you! Dekomaru!!" As the girl started running around while yelling taunts at the Monokumas, 'Toko' threw and slashed her scissors at the Monokumas while screaming at the girl for being reckless and stupid.
Ah, they seem like good friends. I'm glad. Fukawa-san seemed like she'd have trouble getting along with people.

What factions do you headcanon exist post-Tragedy? There's the Future Foundation, Towa City, and the various Despairs, but I don't see anything else about how societies exists in the DanganRonpa-verse, especially with their whole fascination on the semi-supernatural Talent that sorta caused the Tragedy in the first place.
I don’t have exact factions (Mainly because I was a child in 2012, the year THH takes place), but I do have general ideas of what might some factions look like, and what generally said cliques that rose from the collapse would act towards junko. Also headcanons for how some areas might collapse and redevelop.
1.Islamists would be very present in the Middle East. That era was around the peak of ISIS, and I think the tragedy increasing radicalization would only make that worse. Speaking of religious radicalization….
2. The American right-wing “tea party” faction, would be a heavy presence in the former United States. Their cliques would vary from corporatism to outright religious theocracies. Heck, junko’s influence could’ve fanned their flames into facism, being the way the union collapsed in this timeline, akin to the US today.
3. The absolute monarchies collapse. All of them are prevalent on a central figure, ones that I have no doubt Junko would get their entire lines killed to force conflict. This would be a definite way to get an opening through infighting in Saudi Arabia and the gulf states. This also applies to NK and similar regimes.
4.Africa’s borders would be nearly completely redrawn. With the primary motivation for the borders being nobody wanting to move colonial borders, the collapse of Europe would make these borders obsolete. Whatever ethnic tension came up would fracture the post colonial states not only de jure, but de facto.
5.Any multiethnic states are almost completely rended apart. Whether it be one breakaway, or outright collapse, nations like Indonesia, Malaysia, and India would face ethnic violence.
6.Everyone gets a trade shock. The entire model of globalism in the 2010’s would be the equivalent of MAD, one junko would exploit. States like the oil states and Singapore would be hit the hardest, while states with notable sanctions (Iran,Cuba) would ironically be spared from this, although their governments would go through some things.
7.The states aligned with despair have levels in how bad they are. You have cliques who allied with despair out of convenience, and you have 77-B controlled states like Novoselic. Their brutality would vary between, although still be bad, considering the worldwide warlord era. When junko died, many of the less extreme cliques would either have their leaders commit suicide, turned to her side fully, and have less extreme people take over, or outright purge their despairite influence best they could. These states would be accepted back into the world community, to the FF chagrin.
8.There would be a notable split after everything settled somewhat. The FF would face heavy opposition from a myriad of groups, the most notable most likely being of some leftist variety, considering the oligarchic and unequal ideas of innate talent. I could see the FF contesting the very archipelago of Japan with the Japanese Communist Party. Even after post-DR3, where Makoto would definitely want to reconcile with the left, they wouldn’t be very trusting of the FF’s intentions.
9. A ton of city states. Whether they split off from a greater entity, or were forcefully ejected like Singapore, I’d expect for a lot of nations to fracture down to the city at some places.
10.And as my last one, it’s more about how the tragedy (or collapse, as it would probably be known) would be viewed. I’d say the Arab spring would be inherently tied to it, due to similar ways of organizing and wanting to overthrow established regimes. Heck, I could see more reactionary people arguing that the collapse did not begin with the tragedy, but the popular overthrow of the government of Tunisia.
Again, these are just my thoughts on the whole thing, so it’s really up to you.
