Top 20 Female/Joshi Wrestlers of 2021 (Part 4)
Description: We're a long way away from the "Women's Revolution" and in some ways the treatment of female wrestling talent in the West has reverted back to the "Diva Era". In contrast, Joshi Wrestling at companies like STARDOM, has not only been able to stay afloat but grow during the pandemic. Not to be outdone though; the women's divisions of WWE, AEW, Impact & ROH still put up and good fight and overall made it a competitive year for women in Pro Wrestling. 18. Jade Cargill-Jade hasn't done a lot since coming in to AEW. Outside of the tag team match with Shaq against Cody & Brandi Rhodes, you'd be hard pressed to really remember anything she's done previous to last Summer. She had a short feud with Red Velvet and Leyla Hirsch, but her biggest wins came in the tournament for the TBS Championship, scoring victories on Thunder Rosa & Ruby Soho. AEW seems to have a lot of faith in Cargill and if you've ever seen her, you know she has some attributes that are very attractive in the Pro Wrestling business. She's tall, she's muscular, she's strong as hell, she's gorgeous, she's sexy, she can cut a promo and she just exudes confidence and charisma. Since she’s won the title, she’s been kind of running through the bottom of the division but only time will tell what the ultimate goal for this reign is.
17. Hikaru Shida-While Shida hasn’t won any titles last year, she did make history by getting her 50th win and being the fastest woman to that many victories in AEW. She was disappointed in her championship reign, feeling that she could have done more but even after it ended, she stayed in the mix. Riho was their first Joshi champion and the first champion of the women's division overall, but you can tell AEW really wants Shida to be their first success from Japan. Riho is kind of a part-timer, but Shida moved to the United States, and you can see in how they use her in their marketing and their promotional material that they put a lot of stock into her progress.
16. Nikki A.S.H.-Nikki Cross' transition into Nikki A.S.H. was kind of disaster but if it's not a lie and Nicola Glencross herself came up with the idea than I have to give her kudos for that. Although it didn't work, Vince McMahon rarely listens to pitches for other people's ideas but the fact he not only allowed her to give him an idea, but it led to her winning Money in the Bank, her first Championship and then the tag titles with Rhea is nothing short of amazing.
15. Raquel González/Rodriguez-Raquel was transitioned to the top of the women's division in NXT fairly slowly and I think that's because originally, she just wasn't polished, she wasn't as good when she was first signed. When I saw her in the Mae Young Classic for the first time, she looked kind of clumsy and uncomfortable working with smaller girls at her size. Being from Texas she also had a generic cowgirl gimmick too, which probably wasn't going to work in the long run. Over time she became a spoiler, a destroyer; she was walking through her competition, and the NXT fanbase became drawn to her. The “take no prisoner's” attitude, the muscular build, her stiff and brutal work style became something to look forward to.
On April 7th, 2021 at Stand & Deliver, she would defeat Io Shirai to win her first championship in the company, in one of her best matches since she debuted. Her title reign started off great; scoring victories over women like Ember Moon and her former bestie, Dakota Kai, but this was during the time where NXT began to shift into NXT 2.0 and at Halloween Havoc, she would drop the belt to Mandy Rose.
14. Io Shirai-The former "Ace of Stardom" didn't have as smooth of a run in NXT as her former stablemate in Triple Tails, Kana (Asuka in WWE)...or her one-time rival, Kairi Hojo (Kairi Sane in WWE). Between the dominance of Shayna Baszler over the NXT Women's Championship and then the return of Charlotte Flair to the brand, she was kind of being utilized below her talent level and her status as someone you could really build a division around. Although she defeated Charlotte and became the champion and she had the biggest match of her career against Sasha Banks @ The Great American Bash in 2020, it seemed like they didn't realize how valuable she was until it was too late.
In 2021, she defeated the likes of Toni Storm, Mercedes Martinez, Rhea Ripley & Candice LaRae in retention of her title; some of the best female wrestlers in the world, but after losing her championship to Raquel Gonzalez her last "hurrah" as a member of NXT's roster would come in the form of her tag title win with Zoey Stark.
If her career in WWE never goes any further, she still accomplished a lot. Even though she wasn't treated like the asset she is, and the company still hasn't figured out how to present Joshi talent, if she has to return home to Japan..she will do it with some decoration and some new accolades to her name.
13. Becky Lynch-Although she was the WWE Raw Women's Champion in 2021, Becky isn't closer to the top of this list because she wasn't available for most of the year, she was raising her newborn baby girl, Roux. While she was at home working on motherhood, she still remained one of the most over people in the company and a thorn in the side of Charlotte Flair. As Charlotte took her place at the head of Raw's women's division and tried to actually put their young prospects from NXT over for a change, her feuds fell flat and failed put any momentum behind those women. The more and more it looked like we could have Becky back; at any moment, Charlotte's matches began getting drowned out by the background noise of "We want Becky" chants. At Summerslam 2021, Becky finally showed her face. Bianca Belair's opponent, Sasha Banks was unavailable, so Becky took her place in the Smackdown Women's Title match, that she won in a squash after sucker punching the unprepared Belair.
The then SmackDown Women's Champion traded titles with the then Raw Women's Champion, Charlotte Flair after she was drafted to Raw with SmackDown's title still around her waist. The two would clash at Survivor Series that year in a match that Becky won, and she continues her dominance to this day. "Big Time Becks" as she's now called hasn't had any major rivalries yet, but I think the Royal Rumble will be the gateway to some big matches.

INDIAN FEMALE WRESTLERS AND OTHER ATHLETES
Wrestlers, led by Olympic bronze medal winners Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, first took to the streets of New Delhi in protest on January 18. They accused Singh and several coaches of the sport’s governing body of sexually harassing female athletes.
Commonwealth Games women’s gold winner Vinesh Phogat said coaches and the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) have sexually harassed multiple women.
“Women wrestlers have been sexually harassed at national camps by coaches and also the WFI president,” the 28-year-old athlete said in January.
“I know at least 10 to 20 girls in the national camp who have come and told me their stories,” she told reporters.
Following government assurance that an oversight committee would look into the allegations, the wrestlers called off the initial protests on January 20. The sports also ministry stripped the WFI top brass of all administrative powers.
But Malik, who was India’s first female wrestler to win an Olympic medal, said withdrawing the January protest was a “mistake.”
“The report by the oversight committee was not made public and we have reasons to believe the culprits got a clean chit,” said Malik, who won the women’s 58kg freestyle bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The demonstrations resumed last month following what the protesters say was government inaction. In a letter to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief, PT Usha, the wrestlers wrote that Phogat was “mentally harassed and tortured” by Singh after she missed out on an Olympic medal in Tokyo in 2021, which led her to almost contemplate suicide.
The letter also alleged financial misappropriation on the part of the WFI with Singh at its helm.

El Desperado and Hiromu singles match guide!
Tumblr media
I think it can be difficult to catch up on old NJPW feuds, so I put together a match guide for El Desperado and Hiromu's singles matches, and the relevant promo and backstage commentary videos. I've linked both match commentary languages when available.
This doesn't include their tag feud, just singles matches! And I've tried to keep my own commentary to a minimum for the sake of brevity.
You'll need a NJPWWorld account for most of the match links, but it's relatively inexpensive (around $7 USD per month currently) and worth it if you want to watch all the matches in their feud. (Be aware that NJPWWorld memberships renew on the first of the month, Japan-time, so it's best to subscribe on the first of the month.)
I've also linked the pre-match comments if there are any, and the post-match comments, both on youtube.

Shout-out to El Desperado for forgetting to pack his ring gear for today's show, having to wear very short black pants and a little skirt he made out of t-shirts to the ring instead, and getting "Despe-san" and "short tights" trending on twitter in Japan as a result.

"Got a hangover so bad I wanna take my brain out of my head and rinse it with water"
So of course they sit him next to Hiromu during the press conference and he spends most of it like this because Hiromu has no ability to consistently speak at a normal volume.

My #1 post of 2022
It's BOSJ season again, which means I'm thinking about the history Hiromu and Desperado's feud.
Every year Hiromu makes a picture book with information about each wrestler in the tournament. He usually alters his entries for Despy during the course of the tournament.
2018
Hiromu's entry for Desperado started out blank, because he was still trying to figure Desperado out. Before their match, he added:
お前が誰か知ってる
大嫌い
I know who you are, and I hate you
Tumblr media
2019
El Desperado missed the 2019 tournament due to injury. Hiromu added him to the book for that year anyway, on the last page - a photo of Desperado with his jaw broken, covered in blood, that glitches out as he turns the page.

Reviewing the All Elite Wrestling personnel 2023 Edition (Part 1) -
General statistics (taken from https://www.allelitewrestling.com/aew-roster as of 01/10/23) -
For this first part I decided to take everyone’s overall record and calculate with a little adjustments as outlined below:
+2 points for a win -1 point for a loss +1 point for every 3 matches (leftovers will be 0.3 or 0.6) 0 for draws Tiebreakers will be decided if possible (former champions, number of matches, being on the 1st year list, and such) Non-AEW Accomplishments not regarded (this includes ROH Titles) Some Faction definitions are refined by personal choice Career Records only
This doesn’t factor in jobbers or people off this list and have no wins let alone official records. This also doesn’t take into account promo skills or how long they’ve been in the company. I’ve tiered it in terms of every ‘tens’ such as those with a score of 20-29.6 or 30-39.6 to illustrate a sort of 'group’ these wrestlers sit in. It’s clearly not perfect but it does highlight how higher positives scores should fair against lower positive scores when matched up, especially champions. Don’t take it too seriously of course - it’s something I like to dabble in for the sake of my own curiousity and amusement. There is some truth to it though. Just think of it as a ballpark reason to how AEW is promoting certain people and trying to instill credibility into their tenure. Onwards!

Anthony’s Stupid Daily Blog (244): Tue 15th Nov 2022
Today wasn't the best day. For started I made two schoolboy errors very close together after months of having no blemishes on my record. Then I finally decided to go to HR and ask them about the headphone business which didn't end well. I told the HR lass that I understood why we weren't allowed headphones on the floor because we need to be able to hear the fire alarm but surely it should be okay to wear one headphone because then we'd have the other ear free to hear it. Well that's what I tried to say but while I was in the middle of talking this rude cunt barked in by saying "Absolutely not it's policy that no headphones had to be brought onto the floor". I reiterated that I was talking about one headphone not more than one headphones but almost the second I started speaking this ignorant cunt started shaking her head and repeating what she'd just told me like a bootlicking prick. I wanted to say to ask her "If you had one headphone in and the fire alarm went off would you be able to hear it, yes or no?" but it would have been pointless because if I did because she would have realized that if she responded no she'd be talking shit and if she responded yes she'd be agreeing that the company policy is bullshit so she'd likely just repeat "It's bullshit". I tried to not let my anger at this cunt get to me and when I got home I even stuck to my workout plans for the evening and did 1000 stomach crunches in one sitting which is up there with running a half marathon in under two hours as one of my greatest fitness achievements. I want to get into as immaculate physical shape as possible for when I go to WrestleMania next year in case one of the wrestlers in a tag team match needs a partner and selects someone from the crowd like Braun Strowman did a couple of years ago. I finally finished A Dance At The Slaughterhouse by Lawrence Block. I was really into this when I started it about a month and a half ago and got really invested when it introduced a plot where a private detective finds a snuff movie snuck into a VHS case rented from a video store and is traumatised by it to the point that he can't focus on a case he's working on. This was interesting but I got lost halfway through. Normally I have an alarm on my phone that goes off at the top of every hour to remind me to read 10 pages of my book but that's not really doable in my current job. I immediately ordered the next book in my Edgar Award winners challenge “Bootleggers Daughter” by Margaret Maron and hopefully I'll get through it quicker this time. Man I've really let myself down on the reading front this year. In 2021 I read about 20 books and this year I've just about scraped through five which is embarrassing. I need to start making up for the lack of time spent reading during the day, perhaps by reading a few pages early in the morning and then just before I go to bed.

Seth Rollins x Reader ONE SHOT
First published April 8, 2021 on Wattpad
"Hey babe, I'm back!" I heard Seth call from the front door.
"I'm in the kitchen!" I called back and proceeded to wipe down the counter tops and cabinet doors.
"Hey. How was the video shoot? Did everything work out the way you wanted it to?" I asked as Seth came into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge.
"Yes, everything went smoothly. But it still took longer than we expected. I'm going to hop in the shower real quick. Could you maybe make me a protein shake?" he said turning to me.
"Sure. What flavor would you like?" I wanted to know as I opened the pantry.
"Hmm... I don't really care. You pick one. I'll be right back." said Seth grinning before leaving the kitchen to go to the bathroom.
Since I knew that Seth always took an eternity in the shower, I decided to finish my actual task and then start with his shake. 20 minutes later I just poured his finished shake from the blender into a glass as he came strolling back into the kitchen. Only in sweatpants and the hair still dripping wet.
This was a sight I would never get tired of, even though it was very similar to his performances as a wrestler. This was my own personal show and I couldn't help but enjoy it.
After a moment of silence, I put the blender in the sink and rinsed it out.
"Your shake is right there," I said to Seth, who was once again playing on his phone. He lifted his head and followed my gaze to the glass waiting for him.
"Oh yeah, almost forgot. Thanks sweetheart." he replied and came over to me and pressed a kiss to the side of my head. It was such a sweet gesture that brought a slight smile to my lips.
But when Seth stood that close to me, I suddenly had a familiar scent in my nose. I turned my head slightly and sniffed. I definitely knew that scent. I quickly reached for a dish towel to dry my hands. Then I moved closer to Seth and sniffed again.
"What are you doing?" he wanted to know.
"I'm trying to figure out what you smell of," I explained, and did it again. I was sure I knew that scent but couldn't put my finger on it.
"I just got out of the shower, so probably of shampoo and shower gel." said Seth smiling, but at the same time looking at me like I had lost my mind.
"No, that's not it. You usually smell different." I replied, pulling him closer to me. It was driving me crazy that I couldn't figure out what he smelled like.
But then it hit me. Now I knew where I knew the scent from.
"Oh you didn't!" I gasped dramatically.
"I didn't what?" he wanted to know. His face took on a worried expression.
"You used my hair mask, didn't you?" I said, propping my hands on my hips.
"No, of course I didn't! Why would I use your girly stuff?" asked Seth.
"Let me smell your hair, Seth," I said in response.
"What? No." he said, taking a few steps away from me.
"Well, if you haven't used it, then let me smell your hair. Or do you have something to hide, Sethie?" I asked with a smirk.
"Okay, fine." he replied, moving closer to me again.
I stood on my tiptoes so I could sniff his hair more easily. Now I was sure of it, no matter what he said.
"You know, if you wanted to smell like me, you could have just asked," I said, unable to stifle my laughter.
"I don't know what you mean. I didn't do anything!" he still denied.
"Oh yes, you did! And it seems like you put it in your beard, too!" I replied, laughing.
"You have no proof, babe!" he remarked.
"Oh, is that so? First of all you smell like it and second of all I can just look in the tub." I retorted and headed towards the bathroom.
"Hey no, wait!" shouted Seth from behind me.
But I did not wait but started to run faster. I heard Seth following me, cursing. I turned my head to see how close he was behind me, but then I slipped. I barely managed to get onto the couch before I landed on my butt.
I immediately burst out laughing, probably out of relief that I hadn't hurt myself.
"Are you okay?" asked Seth who was now hovering over me.
"Yeah everything's fine!" I replied still giggling.
"Okay, you win! I used your hair mask. Your hair is always so shiny and soft, so I wanted to try that too." he confessed.
"See? Was that so hard? But now go dry your beautiful soft hair, because you're dripping all over me." I said, wiping a few drops from my face.
"Nope! You laughed at me, so now that's your punishment." said Seth, shaking his hair and the drops spread across my face again.
"If anyone deserves a punishment, it's you for not asking me if it was okay to use my stuff." I replied, pouting.
"Hmm... you're probably right about that. Any idea what kind of punishment?" he asked, his dark eyes flashing with mischief.
"I think I'll figure something out," I said, grabbing his chin and pulling him down to me.

StaticNerd's Favorite Wrestling Moments of 2021
Looking back on it this was a pretty good year for wrestling. We got crowds back, crowned champions that were years in the making and got some crazy debuts and returns. So many that I cant pick which is my "favorite" so I just gonna list some matches and moments that stick out in no particular order.
First obviously is CM Punk's return to wrestling. I legit cant count the number of time I told my friends Punk is never gonna return to wrestling. I always thought he was happy writing comics and was over wrestling and I've never been happier to be wrong. I think I've watched the clip around 10-20 times.
Second Hangman Page winning the AEW world title. The first PPV my whole family was together for was the one where years of long term story telling came together and it honestly couldn't have gone much better.
Next almost all of Bianca Belair's accomplishments. The first half of 2021 was Bianca's time. From winning the rumble to winning the title at Wrestlemania. SummerSlam was a bit of a dip but she did become the sole survivor at survivor series (I think I didnt watch it to be fair) and she definitely in my top 3 wrestlers of the year. Hopefully she has another banger year next year.
Matt Cardona's 2021 has definitely been one I wouldn't have expected for him. Winning the GCW title and at the time of me typing this hes the number 1 contender for the Impact world title. He definitely has potential to be the sleeper star of the year.
The TBS tournament has been great so far and I'm excited for the finals in a few weeks. From the start there was no clear winner and even now I'm not certain. I think itll be Jade Cargill but I wouldn't be mad at anyone still in the running taking the title. (I'm not so secretly rooting for Ruby Soho!)
All of Bryan Danielson's solo matches especially since he join AEW. From Wrestlemania to Winter is Coming. Just about every match hes had has been a MOTY contender. He really wants to have all the dream matches he can and cement that hes one of the best to ever do it and he is succeeding.
Miro. Literally everything about the man. His promos are the fucking best bits of Dynamite consistantly and I honestly can not wait for him dethrone God in 2022. dont let my family know i said that lol.
The lights out match with Britt and Thunder Rosa. I really hope we get more moments like this for the Women in AEW. Definitely help cement that these two are the some of the biggest stars in wrestling rn.
I just finished watching it but I definitely have to out here. The street fight between Penelope Ford, the Bunny, Tay Conti, and Anna Jay was great and brutal. I really hope they get to do some more matches like this in the future
Those are my big moments feel free to add your own! I think the next post I'll make will be about things AEW can improve on for next year.

Shawn Spears
Daniel Garcia*
Unranked: Brian Cage, Dante Martin, Dustin Rhodes, Frankie Kazarian, Feugo Del Sol, Jake Hager, John Silver, Lance Archer, Lee Johnson, Matt Sydal, PAC, QT Marshall
* Not listed on official AEW website roster
A big talking point lately is that AEW's roster has gotten pretty huge. One effect of this expansion is that it's a major pain in the ass for me to keep track of all the wrestlers who mainly compete on the YouTube shows. Going forward, I'll be focusing on the performers who have wrestled in the past 30 days on television or pay-per-views.
There's concern that the big stars from other major-league companies (mostly WWE) will crowd out the wrestlers who came up from the minors. That issue became more clear to me when I put together the above list. Twelve of my men's top 20 came to AEW best known for their WWE runs, and Omega made his name in New Japan. So if you expected AEW to be "the best of the rest," you're left with Darby, Eddie, Orange, Pillman, MJF, Hobbs, Garcia, and a bunch of guys in the background.
We'll have to see if this becomes a problem. I'm optimistic that AEW knows what they're doing, and wrestlers will be regularly cycled into and out of the spotlight. But WWE has conditioned wrestling fans to think that if a wrestler only appears on the C-show, then the bookers have totally given up on them. So I don't blame fans for being skeptical that AEW can find a better way. It's on AEW to prove that guys like Brian Cage, Pac, John Silver, Dante Martin, and Lee Johnson will get their day in the sun. And that's not even getting into the dozens of wrestlers that aren't listed above.
Men's tag team division - babyfaces
Lucha Bros. - Rey Fenix & Penta El 0M (AEW tag team champions, AAA tag team champions)
Santana & Ortiz
Jurassic Express - Luchasaurus & Jungle Boy
Evil Uno & Stu Grayson
Chuck Taylor & Wheeler YUTA*
Men's tag team division - heels
The Young Bucks - Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson
Men of the Year - Ethan Page & Scorpio Sky
FTR - Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood
The Butcher & The Blade
Private Party & Marq Quen & Isiah Kassidy
2point0 - Matt Lee & Jeff Parker
TH2 - Jack Evans & Angelico
* Not listed on official AEW website roster
At any given time, AEW has about 16-20 active tag teams, but a lot of them are mainly on Dark and Elevation. Limiting the rankings to teams that have been on real TV in the past month gives us just twelve men's teams. Then again, that's still more than you'll see on most other wrestling shows.
I think it's important that three of the heel teams (Butcher/Blade, Quen/Kassidy, Evans/Angelico) are in Matt Hardy's stable, so it feels like Matt is begging for one of those teams to break away and turn face. The Dark Order also features three teams (Uno/Grayson, John Silver/Alex Reynolds, Alan Angels/Preston Vance), but their storyline about internal problems could break up one or more of those pairings, if not the entire faction. Interestingly, they've started to set up a feud between the entire Hardy Family Office and the sort-of reunited Dark Order, which may be where they blow off a lot of these issues.
Women's division - babyfaces
Ruby Soho
Kris Statlander
Thunder Rosa
Anna Jay
Tay Conti
Hikaru Shida
Big Swole
Riho
Red Velvet
Leyla Hirsch
Women's division - heels
Britt Baker (AEW women's world champion)
Jade Cargill
Nyla Rose
The Bunny
Penelope Ford
Jamie Hayter
Abadon
Diamante*
Unranked: Emi Sakura, Kiera Hogan*, KiLynn King*
* Not listed on official AEW website roster
AEW doesn't do a lot of women's matches on Dynamite and Rampage, but because of the battle royale on the 9/4 pay-per-view some of the overlooked ladies managed to make the cut.
We've seen some alliances forming in this division, which has stoked talk of introducing a women's tag team championship. However, it looks like AEW has other plans, involving a new women's TBS title to complement the men's TNT title.
I don't think the women's roster is deep enough to support any new belts. That doesn't mean I don't want a secondary title or a tag title. I do. But I'm not convinced that introducing a new title will commit AEW to actually push more wrestlers and expand the roster. That commitment is what I really want; new belts are just gravy.
Part-time/semi-retired: Chavo Guerrero Jr., Homicide, Karl Anderson (Impact men's tag team champion), Luke Gallows (Impact men's tag team champion), Mark Henry, Minoru Suzuki, Rebel, Sting, Tully Blanchard, Paul Wight
I don't get the impression that Homicide and Suzuki will be sticking around for very long. Aside from them, all AEW is getting from the "forbidden door" these days is Gallows and Anderson, and all they do lately is stand in the back of Kenny Omega's entourage. These crossovers have been fun and all, but they've been more like Green Lantern/Silver Surfer than JLA/Avengers, if you get my drift.
The Dan Lambert/American Top Team storyline appears to be setting up some kind of match involving Junior dos Santos, Jorge Masvidal, Paige VanZant, and a bunch of other MMA jagoffs I can't be bothered to remember. We'll see if that actually happens, or if they just jerk around about it for another two months.
No TV or PPV matches in 30 days: Aaron Solo, Alan Angels, Alex Reynolds, Anthony Bowens, Austin Gunn, Billy Gunn, Colt Cabana, Colten Gunn, Griff Garrison, Joey Janela, Luther, Marko Stunt, Max Caster, Nick Comoroto, Peter Avalon, Preston Vance, Ricky Starks (FTW champion), Shawn Dean, Sonny Kiss, Wardlow
This doesn't include people like Julia Hart and Serpentico, who regularly appear for AEW but aren't on the official roster and apparently aren't under contract. Regardless, this gives you a good sense of which wrestlers would be the "AEW Dark roster," if we treated it like a separate brand or something. It'll be interesting to check in a few months which of these names are still stuck in this category.
No matches in 30 days: Anthony Ogogo, Brandi Rhodes, Brandon Cutler, Christopher Daniels, Leva Bates, Michael Nakazawa, Sammy Guevara, Yuka Sakazaki
As huge as AEW's roster is, it's impressive that only eight wrestlers are listed here. Guevara has a match set for 9/29, and Daniels is doing a little crossover thing on Impact Wrestling. Brandi just got back from maternity leave, and while I assume she plans to get back in the ring, that remains to be seen. As for the others, it's possible some of these people have injuries or are taking time off, and the details just haven't gotten out.
Inactive
Darius Martin (knee - unspecified ACL injury)
Hangman Page (paternity leave)
Kip Sabian (undisclosed injury)
Serena Deeb (left knee - unspecified injury)
Trent Beretta (neck - herniated intervertebral disc)
The big story here is Page, who was being set up for a major run for Kenny Omega only to suddenly lose his title shot and disappear from the show. That left everyone pretty anxious for Page to get back, especially since a wave of big new stars could crowd him out of his spot. I'm sure AEW knows when Hangman is scheduled to return, but there's no way for any of us to figure it out, which is frustrating.
Trent had neck fusion surgery, which has a notoriously slow recovery time; I don't expect him to be on TV until the middle of 2022. I haven't seen any kind of timetable for Sabian or Martin, probably because there are so few details available about the extent of their injuries.
Deeb had knee surgery in March, returned to the ring in May, and went back on the shelf in July. Evidently she came back too soon, and she's still rehabbing the original knee injury. I worry about that kind of thing when I see Britt Baker (or Impact's Chelsea Green) working through a broken wrist.

Upcoming/planned anime I’m excited for pt. 1
As the winter anime season comes to an end, along with the season (or series) finales of fan-favorites like “Attack on Titan,” “Black Clover” and “Jujustu Kaisen,” and the season premieres of other returning anime like “My Hero Academia,” it is time to look forward to the premieres of upcoming anime series. Here are some of the new anime I’m looking forward to in the near future:
‘Shaman King’
youtube
“The Shaman King is the one who can contact the king of spirits and reshape the world. Every 500 years, shamans, who can commune between the worlds of the living and dead, compete in the Shaman Fight to become the next Shaman King. Among those aiming for the top is a young shaman named Yoh Asakura.
See Yoh's adventure unfold in the new adaptation of Hiroyuki Takei's lauded manga, starting 2021 on Netflix.”
Description via Netflix Anime on YouTube
The second “Shaman King” adaption will be released on Netflix sometime in 2021 after an April premiere in Japan.
‘Yasuke’
Tumblr media
“In a war-torn feudal Japan filled with mechs and magic, the greatest ronin never known, Yasuke, struggles to maintain a peaceful existence after a past life of violence. But when a local village becomes the center of social upheaval between warring daimyo, Yasuke must take up his sword and transport a mysterious child who is the target of dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords.”
Description via Netflix
LeSean Thomas is back with this awesome-looking anime about a samurai. I’m definitely excited for this one (and hoping for a “Cannon Busters” season 2). The only concern I have is that apparently it is only six episodes.
“Yasuke” will premiere on Netflix April 29, 2021.
‘4th Rope’
Tumblr media
“Welcome to the 6LVcK - I galaxy (black eye), home of IWE wrestling! In this world, wrestling is the pinnacle of entertainment, and wrestlers are gods amongst men. Young up and comer Mazi Bullox is out to prove he’s up next. But reigning champ ‘Cosmic Drip’ La’Flare and his camp won’t relinquish their stranglehold on the game that easily.”
-Description via @NoirCaesar on Instagram
This series has some interesting visuals and an intriguing plot. I’m excited to see how it turns out, and what other Noir Caesar projects are coming.
Anime and manga company Noir Casear announced its “4th Rope” series will premiere in 2021 on the Noir Caesar app once it launches.
‘The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent’
Tumblr media
“Sei, a 20-year-old office worker, is whisked away to a whole new world. Unfortunately for Sei, the ritual that summoned her—meant to produce a ‘Saint’ who would banish the dark magic—brought two people over instead of one. And everyone prefers the second girl over Sei?! But this is just fine by Sei, who leaves the royal palace to set up shop making potions and cosmetics with her newfound magic. Business is booming, and this might not be such a bad life, after all...as long as her supposed Sainthood doesn't come back to haunt her.”
-Description via MyAnimeList
This show seems like a fun isekai anime with a rare female protagonist, so I’m interested to see how it turns out.
“The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent” will begin streaming on Funimation April 6.
‘I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level ‘
Tumblr media
“After living a painful life as an office worker, Azusa ended her short life by dying from overworking. So when she found herself reincarnated as an undying, unaging witch in a new world, she vows to spend her days stress free and as pleasantly as possible. She ekes out a living by hunting down the easiest targets - the slimes! But after centuries of doing this simple job, she's ended up with insane powers...how will she maintain her low key life now?!”
-Description via Crunchyroll
This isekai seems like it will also be a fun series.
“I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level” stream on Crunchyroll and VRV this spring (release date to be announced)
‘Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood‘
youtube
“The year is 1931. Prince Tokugawa Yoshinobu is 94 years old and holds absolute control over Japan. Remnants of the Meiji era’s culture can be seen around the city, but scientific technology and Japanese esoteric cosmology Onmyodo are also developing, exuding a sense of modernity. Yet lurking behind the glitz is Kuchinawa, a dissident group planning the assassination of the prince, and effectively the fall of the regime. Tasked to extinguish these dissidents is Nue, the government’s secret executioner group. Sawa Yukimura, who works for this organization, suffered from an early age at the hands of the Kuchinawa boss. Her entire family was murdered and she dedicated her life to avenging their death.”
Description via Crunchyroll
“Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood“ will stream on Crunchyroll and VRV this spring (air date to be announced).
‘Combatants Will Be Dispatched!’
youtube
“Turns out, evil takes initiative! With world domination close at hand, the Kisaragi Corporation turns its sights on interstellar conquest, and who better to take over a magical world than two randomly assigned minions—Combatant Agent Six and his android partner Alice?”
Description via Funimation
A comedy isekai where the protagonist are bad guys. Oh, and it’s from the creator of “Konosuba”.
This is part one of some of the upcoming/planned anime I’m excited for, but let me know what you’re looking forward to by commenting or reblogging with anime releasing in spring 2021 (or beyond) that you’re excited for!
