Throwing my hat into the predstrogen ban/Exploded With Hammers ring, this might earnestly be more pathetic than anything Elon Musk has done. To be clear, Elon Musk sexually harassed a woman and tried to pay her off with a horse and has been very friendly towards and accommodating of the nazis on his platform, which makes him pound-for-pound morally worse than Matt Mullenweg. But the descriptor of "he's a petty child unaware of how mentally cooked he is" was only an accurate descriptor of him near the beginning. By now, I think he's reached a point where if he banned a trans woman for being mean towards him, he would just avoid talking about it unless he had a gun pointed to his head, and even then he'd be largely flippant or apathetic about the whole ordeal. He more or less knows that he's kind of a malicious dipshit, and acts accordingly.

With Mullenweg, meanwhile, there's something much more insidious about his behavior, or at least it feels more icky to me. Not only did he break the silence when he could have just not said anything and let predstrogen fade into the night, he then tried to paint himself as a reasonable man being victimized because some transgirl furry said "I hope he gets hit by a car with hammers glued to it" or something, premptively deflected any accusations of transphobia with a cynical appeal to the fact that he has gay friends, and then started hitting up random trans women in their DMs to explain himself or garner some support (nevermind how implicitly threatening this is). DERANGED COMPARISON INCOMING, but it reminds me of an observation Slavoj Zizek (schniff) made about a difference between the totalitarianism of Hitler and Stalin, specifically how the former made no attempt to portray himself and his regime as anything but a strongman political movement, while the former would do stuff like have prisoners send him birthday telegrams, or would join the audience in applauding when he was finished with a speech. The fundamental cruelty and level of power between the two was the same, but Stalin made more of an attempt to give a face to his authority, or create an illusion that he and his citizens were both subjects of rationality and hypothetically equal.

On both platforms, twitter and tumblr, nazis run rampant, harassment campaigns against their queer userbase succeed, the flagging system is useless at best and at worst is weaponized towards the end of said harassment campaigns (or flagging sfw selfies of trans women as mature content), and the trans people are scorned despite being the powerhouse of the cell due to all trans people being simultaneously terminally online and chronically funny. The difference is, Elon Musk knows he doesn't like them, takes steps to make it known they are not welcome there, and rarely feels a need to justify himself outside of conspiracy theories of the trans agenda sterilizing autistic children and making his daughter hate him. Matt Mullenweg, meanwhile, lets his abusive dysfunctional system run, causing all the same excesses as twitter, but then makes hollow gestures of him being down to earth, a reasonable man amidst a sea of unreasonable behavior, the guy who owns "the queerest website on the internet" and surely the queerest website wouldn't be consistently alienating to its trans userbase! There is no transphobia in the moderation team, the tagging system is not broken, the moderation system is not broken, there is no sea of bigotry and harassment driving people off the site, there is only a belligerent trans woman making death threats who deserves not only the most harsh and disciplined banning that anybody in the history of the website has seen, but also a visit from the FBI as well. Elon views what happens on X as a feature, not a bug, while Mullenweg denies the presence of any features or bugs. Not on his new PDF.

Back when twt was a usable webbed site, and back when I still a much more confrontational teenager, I made myself a twt bot using this one website (I'd link it but bc elawn killed twt api, the owner of the site stopped paying for the domain; I also can't use screenshots for that reason)

You could set specific twts to post at certain times of day, or you could put together a general pool of a bunch of twts that would get posted at random at 30-minute intervals; same for replies (IE if someone twted "good morning" at the bot, that specific phrase would trigger the response of "good morning :)", or anything could be said to the bot and the programming would pick a random reply from a pool of options like "good morning" "good afternoon" or "goodnight")

Anyway, I can't be too specific without spoiling Will, but I had one of erinbot's random tweets to be like "Oh, I'm moffat, and I looove writing (blank) because I don't have any respect for (blank)"

And a couple times a week, there would be dw fanboys replying to erinbot to be like "That's not true, you just don't understand what a true auteur is :///" etc etc (you know the kinda shit you see in youtube comments)

And because I was a teenager, I had a bunch of puns set up as a the random replies (like I know for sure that "it was an emotional wedding, even the cake was in tiers" was one of them), so inevitably erinbot would reply a pun, and the dipshits would be like "What??? What does that have to do with moffat????"

So I'd let them get a few interactions deep, and then I'd manually reply on the bot: "Hi, this is a twt bot that just posts random twts and replies. You're arguing with a gay teenager's bot, you loser."

And bc I manually replied this to the, they'd be like "Oh . Well then reply as yourself!!" and I'd be like "No <3" and let erinbot go back to sending them bad puns

You were pretty much everyone's beck and call, the one woman line they'd hit up whenever the going got tough. So it's no surprise that the alone time you'd have with Chris would come at the cost of, you guessed it, yet another phone call.

"Hi hello this Y/N speaking." You suppress a giggle as the course bristles of Chris untamed beard tickles the side of your neck. He's trailing kisses, distracting you while you take on the job of being a devoted event coordinator which becomes the precipice of your life.

Chris on the other hand, enjoys being a little brat. He enjoys taking your mind off of things, being silly.

His playfulness comes in full swing and doesn't stop in mid-stride. It's abundantly known that his love language is definitely physical touch and your body is his vying temple, that doesn't escape him.

"Hi this is Ronan calling from the Olivier Event Space." The kind man offers while you're pinned against the large sectional, trying to get your words out while carrying the weight of a 220 pound man (so to speak).

"Ah yes Ronan, how've you been mate?" You charm the sweet ol'e Englishman to much of Chris's displeasure. He nips your jugular after leisurely sucking on the flesh - he's getting impatient with his welcome.

"Stop!" You whisper yell at the chagrined brunette who raises his brows.

"Make me." He grinds his tented crotch against your clothed front, eliciting a well found 'Oh' when you're surmising his desire. This is expected. This is needed. And you both are in no way of letting up.

Chris isn't one to listen.

Even while you're caught up in your current disposition, Ronan is still dallying the call. "I'm doing swell thanks, er, so the reason I called is because I just wanted to let you know that-"

"Cut the call." Chris huskily moans in your ear, dragging his tongue around the outer shell and then down the lobe. "Or else I won't make you cum tonight until I say so..."

"I'm sorry what was that?" You ignore Chris, speaking up louder for Ronan. Your hands bunch up the front his shirt with anticipation as his warm breath fans against the nape of your neck, down to the valley of your chest.

"He can wait." Chris mumbles against your taut skin, mildly irritated by the fact that some posh dipshit is occupying your time when he's the one who's made it to you after being away for three weeks on site.

"Do you?" Chris charges after getting an unsatisfactory answer.

"No I'm actually gay." Ronan meekly states.

"Oh even better!" You gawk at this. Chris is a tad bit possessive. Any man that comes into contact with you could easily stir that inkling. So hearing this revelation comes as a relief for him. "Listen, I'm trying to spend some good, quality, fulsome time with Y/N and I'm sure whatever urgent and pressing matter can wait. Don't you think bud?"

"I... guess?"

"Great thanks for being a good sport. She'll-" Chris eyes your sexed up form and calculates his time needed to ruin you for your disobedience. "Call you back in a few hours. Thanks man, I owe you one."

"You don't know him." You retort just as Chris ends the call. It's well past working hours and Ronan is probably confused and reeling in his tiny little office space while you, you were about to deal with your first afterhours call with Chris.

"Where were we?" Chris diverts his sweet attention towards you, his hands cradle the sides of your face as he leans in to swallow your lips with his, kissing you again with compounding urgency and need. You instantly melt into the kiss. He's good. Way too good.

Hey there! Let me write that essay for you about morally gray Percy ^^

It’s not about whether Percy is a morally gray character or not, it’s about he has to be otherwise the story doesn’t make any sense. At least for me it wouldn’t.

Ashley (@gr33kg0ds) said in the tags of my dark!Percy post something along the line of people diminishing Percy’s character because they need him to be pure and fluffy and I wholeheartedly agree with that!

Just because Percy’s twelve doesn’t mean he’s pure and didn’t do unproblematic things. I’ll mostly refer to The Lightning Thief because that book is the Magnus Opus for Riordan and perfectly stands for Percy as a morally gray character from the very beginning of the saga. (Also the only book I’ve recently re-read)

As much as I love fanon with all the amazing artworks, debates, memes and jokes, analysis, cool edits and wonderful fanfics, projecting your version of Percy doesn’t make the image in your head real. Percy in canon is not the fun and fluffy boy you imagine him to be or which social media sites (Reddit, Twitter, Instagram and yes, also Tumblr) tend to make him to be. He’s a scrawny little sarcastic twerp that was the unpopular kid. He isn’t that cringy dude Tony Lopez doing that fucking weird TikTok dance (side note: I don’t even know who this person is and I don't care, I saw the video and immediately wanted to delete every social media app on my phone, so thanks Tony?), kissing his Yeezys goodnight, vibing to our lord and gay icon Taylord “T. Swizzle” Swift song and flexing them iPhone 11 Max Pros. Percy literally said that going to Burger King with his mother once in a while would be considered a luxury. He’s a poor bastard in literal sense.

Part of the problem with the distinction of Percy’s character and his motives stem from the fact that Percy is a sneaky unreliable narrator and we as the audience (especially if you’re younger) don’t question most of his behavior if you even question some (pretty sure that most of us only picked up weird stuff as adults). Everything seems plausible to you. But does it mean that his behavior is necessarily good? Something that would paint his character as good?

Like I’ve said, let’s take a look at TLT. The very beginning of everything and the wonderful line that gets quoted everywhere: “Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood”. 

The very first line that quoted everywhere or used as in moodboard and edits but its meaning and significance get brushed off for the most part. It immediately sets the tone and the atmosphere for the book and for Percy as a character. A(n in my opinion) morally gray character. The very first thing we hear from Percy is that he doesn’t want to be in this world. He’s an involuntary participant who has been (upon further reading) blackmailed and forced into this world and is only cooperating to get his mother back and said in regards to his father (who also stands for the Greek pantheon) ”well yeah, would be nice to know about my dad but I’ve survived without him the past twelve years so I don’t know, he wouldn’t be missed necessarily I guess?“ That pretty much tells you, it foreshadows, that we will be dealing with someone with grit, someone that fights back, someone that went through shit, someone that isn’t a goody two-shoed character. Does it mean he’s a terrible (in the sense of evil or bad) character from the get go? Not really, but it tells you in nuances that he won’t be the white shining knight you might expect from a fairy tale.

There is so much that little Perseus Jackson has to offer you directly in the first book. So much that paints him as a morally gray character. From the illegal candy stash all the way to tricking Procrustes into his own trap. He knows right from wrong and isn’t innocent by any means. He wants you to think he’s innocent. Yes, he hunts monsters and the book also tells you that some adults (Gabe) can also be monsters, but Percy’s personality is so interesting and full of facets which I love! He’s misleading you on purpose. Deflects, plays events down. He lies in front of you to others but you don’t really doubt it. Instead of questioning it, you understand it.

What distinguishes Percy from other male protagonists in that notion that the author doesn’t try to paint him as particularly good (the reader connects the dots, in reality) is pretty much that. Percy is neither inherently good or bad. He’s in the middle. He does lots of questionable things and his personality adds to it. Something that immediately comes to my mind is his lack of fear of consequences. He thinks in the short term and not in the long term. Of course, he’s caring about those that are close and important to him (Grover, Annabeth and his mother of course. And well. The world not getting destroyed by his weird father and fucking crazy uncle would be a plus). But Percy isn’t really a strategist (yet). Look at the Medusa head thingy. Annabeth and Grover warn him, that he’s gonna get his ass beat and he doesn’t care. That these gods could squish him in the end didn’t matter to him.

The Olympian gods are painted as these unpenetrable huge mighty force and some fuzzy annoyed twelve year old dipshit sends them the severed head of a monster - but not any monster, the monster his father had a role in creating (well, Athena for the most part, but you know what I mean). (Also, I know this kinda reckless behavior gets sorta rewarded but at first, everyone was like ‘NO, NO, NO!’ before Percy was glorious with his attempt). Percy essentially tells these ancient forces that drive the way of his new cosmos how shit‘s gonna work from now on.

Percy isn’t fear riddled and doesn’t think about the possible outcome. He manipulates, he lies, he persuades and all of this as soon as he hits twelve. But probably earlier. Pretty sure he had to become a believable lier in order to trick (survive being around) Gabe. Perseus is angry, he’s agitated. Had Riordan written Percy as a soft spoken, frightened, goody two-shoed kid, almost nothing in TLT and the follow-ups would have made sense. He’s the outcast, but slowly blossoms into the strength and muscles of the group. Of the entire camp. Someone that outsmarts opponents and wins battles. But he didn’t do that by playing nice and being a bootlicker.

TLT would’ve been a perfect standalone book that would have emphasized that Percy is an involuntary person sive) if you skip Kronos, leave a little bit foreshadowing with the prophecy out, tweak the talks with the gods and Annabeth’s first meeting and skip Luke and the scorpion at the end. The ending would’ve been “and so Percy had a first awesome summer vacation and found a group of friends for life” or so (aka PJO movie 1 in less shitty and more cohesive).

The morally gray character shrinks a little bit in the SOM because there lie straighter dangers ahead which dive more into the bigger picture and Percy grows more into the character who takes care of friends and but he does come back with TTC, and definitely BOTL and the St. Helens explosion.

Consequences of Percy’s interactions had people partially dying. There is doubt, there is guilt. But the show must go on. There are battles that have to be won. There is no big giving up, no big overturn for the bad guys.

Also... isn’t it interesting that we start with Percy saying ”look, I don’t want to be in this world“ in TLT and it ends with TLO where he says ”for once I didn’t look back“? The full circle? The way that accepting his fate took five books? To change Percy from being an involuntary participant to becoming voluntary? He didn’t want to be a half-blood, he didn’t want to be the kid in the prophecy, but he actively chose to be in the end. He went from a darker shade of gray to a mayhaps lighter, if you want to say so.

To conclude, I repeat myself again: it’s not about whether Percy is a morally gray character or not, it’s that he has to be.

It’s AU night, y’all!

Tonight we’re talking about the jamitch Love Simon AU! For those who haven’t watched the movie this AU is based on [or read the book] then I’ll give you a run down of what the AU so that we’re on the same page! 

Here are the bullet points:

Mitch live a pretty normal life living with his parents and little brother Willy. His best friends consist of Aasim, Clementine, and Louis.

Louis is new to the group after moving to town. He and Clementine are clearly into each other but Mitch suspects that Aasim has feelings for Clementine. 

Mitch is gay, something he’s known for a while now but hasn’t come out to anyone. One day he comes across an online confession of a closeted gay student at their high school, known only by the pseudonym "Blue". Mitch, after spending some time panicking and overthinking, finally messages Blue under a fake name. 

Mitch chats with Blue for several weeks, confiding and growing feelings for one another as times passes. 

One day while emailing Blue in the library, Mitch forgets to log off and the messages are discovered by Marlon, who snoops through and even takes pictures of all the emails. 

Marlon then uses this to blackmail Mitch by threatening to make his emails public unless he agrees to help Marlon win over Louis, who he’s infatuated with. Mitch reluctantly agrees, feeling he has no choice. 

While that’s happening, Mitch starts to suspect that James might be Blue, but that theory’s quickly dismissed when he accidentally walks in on James smooching some girl at a Halloween party. 

Oh, btw, there’s a Halloween party where Mitch is forced to invite Marlon to come with them. Clementine also confides in Mitch that she has feelings for Louis, which Mitch has to lie and say Louis is actually interested in Marlon. 

Louis and Marlon are in an upcoming play with Mitch working tech, so the three of them meet up at a diner so that Marlon can try and woo Louis. While that nonsense is going on, Mitch begins to suspect that Omar, a worker at the diner, might be Blue. 

On the way home, Mitch comes out to Louis and is relieved with how positive and loving he is. 

Later at a football game, Mitch is so sick of Marlon’s shit that he just tells him to go for it, and ooooooh boy, does Marlon go for it. The dude interrupts the national anthem and professes his love for Louis in front of the entire crowd to which Louis awkwardly rejects. 

Marlon is laughed at and ridiculed for the gesture. 

He’s also pissed off. 

During the holiday, Mitch then begins to suspect that Blue might be Gabe. 

On Christmas Eve, to distract people from his own humiliation, Marlon outs Mitch by posting his emails on the school's gossip site. Willy finds out and tries to comfort Mitch about it but Mitch completely blocks every one until the next morning when he finally comes out to his parents who are accepting. 

Here’s where things are drastically different in this AU. In the movie, Simon’s friends are absolute dipshits and cut him off. Not because he’s gay, but because he lied to them and they refuse to try and understand why he lied. And honestly, I wish he had dropped all three of them after that but whatever. Aasim, Clementine, and Louis aren’t dipshits. 

Yeah, they’re confused and upset that he lied, but they actually try to understand where Mitch was coming from when he kept Clementine and Louis apart and tried to set Aasim and Clementine up [a thing he did previously].

So that when two other dipshits try to humiliate Mitch in the cafeteria, he’s not alone. Clementine, Aasim, and Louis are more than willing to kick those dickheads’ asses. 

however, what is the same is that Blue cuts contact with Mitch after discovering who he is and seeing that their secret it out. 

Mitch reaches out to Blue one last time, confessing his feelings and asking for him to meet him at the ferris wheel at the local carnival. Mitch rides the ferris wheel several times with his buddies watching, anxiously waiting for Blue to show up. 

When Mitch runs out of tickets, Marlon tries making amends for his behavior by buying him one more ride. Just before the ride begins, James steps forward and asks if he can sit with him, revealing himself to be Blue.

Yeah, turns out that smooch at the Halloween party was a result of James having too much to drink. A total accident. The dude’s gay as hell. 

They ride the ferris wheel together and kiss as their friends cheer them on. 

So there. Now everyone’s caught up. You can add to the AU even if you’ve never watched the movie or read the book, too! So, what are your thoughts on this AU?

Alright. So I'm lots of hours into gameplay. I think up towards 20 of LoU2 and for the life of me I still do not understand why there is such a big subset of people that bombed this game in the user reviews (just saw it pop up in my reddit feed, refuse to read cause I ain't done with the game yet). Given the time frame of the bombing and how many bombers I am making a pretty valid assumption that none of them had finished the game or even gotten that far in before posting their reviews.

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT: This game DOES NOT deserve a 3.4 out of 10 in the user reviews. It's too good (so far) for that.

I can think of only a few reasons for this subset of persons.

1. It's actually that bad. [Highly suspect, but then again I haven't finished the game yet]

2. They didn't like the fact that (SPOILER) Joel died. [A big possibility cause boy howdy that put me in a mood, but I'd be damned if that natural history museum flashback didn't give me ALL THE FEELS]

3. They don't like that Ellie is gay. [Which I didn't think would be an issue so much because it's pretty explicit in Left Behind and we've already hashed this out goddamnit]

4. Kind of ties to above but they found out about certain characters and their stories or designs and they think Naughty Dog is pushing an "agenda". BIG SPOILERS. Off the top of my head: I have already heard someone complain about Abby being jacked beyond a woman's capability.... which is bullshit. Given her drive to avenge her father and the equipment WLF provided for training (which they showed the bloody gym where she had about 3 years to train within shouting distance of her assigned room plus the obvious infrastructure that WLF had of food reserves which would allow her to grow those muscles and not just be lean) and the fact that it clearly shows flash backs of her without muscle and then progressed to a flashback of her with muscle improvement and stating "I pushed 185 today." I think people don't realize that there are women out there capable of that body frame and strength. Not a lot. But certainly Abby has some very compelling motivation to be like that plus seemly blessed with some genes that allow for it (height and build) / Lev is a trans-man or boy (13 years old btw which is on the cusp of when it is common for individuals to develop body dysphoria or body dysmorphic) from a religious cult that is trying to kill him for being an "abomination" [This is a possible reason. I hope this isn't the reason though for the review bombing because it's not like this was an in your face kind of thing. They didn't make a big deal out of any of it in my opinion. The real focus of the plot so far has been revenge and the cyclic nature of violence begetting violence. And if there are people hung up on these characters for those reasons they need to get a life or just pretend otherwise... or.. you know.... not play the game. There's an option.]

There are some graphic scenes of both death and torture (much more so than I remember from LoU1) and there are also scenes of weed usage and sex (not so much the fact that one of the makeout scenes is Ellie with another woman, Dina) but more of the fact that there's just straight up nudity and sex with Abby and Owen. Which seems prudish but realize that some people just think it's inappropriate. Which (imo) is a bit silly. [Possibly but not buying it from so many people].

In conclusion I think the reason for the review bombing is mainly 2 and 4. Which. Man, I kind of get it (about 2, Joel dying) but not really. It had to happen and honestly the hints in the very first trailer were always there. Maybe they just thought it wouldn't happen as fast. For those doing it cause of 4. Well.... I mean fuck off. It's not an agenda. These characters are just litterally existing. Their traits and character design litterally have NO bearing on the plot except maybe Lev and that's a side plot not the main storyline (so far). As I've mentioned, haven't played the whole game.

This was started on Reddit. REDDIT! The same well-known toxic place that sent a supposed “Boston Bomber” to commit suicide with their “sleuthing”. The same site that allowed the worst types of persons to convene and coordinate nasty things unhindered...it spawned guys like patricidal murderer Lane Davis. It propagated stuff like QAnon and Pizzagate. I even bought into a theory from a user named “Dr_Midnight” who thought they unraveled a connection with some coordination with all of the anti-lockdown protests (only to find it was unified under some old hippy who was trying to subvert said protests).

Now there is an upswing of shit accounts posting this stuff on Tumblr.....they are the typical flash-in-pan meme-a-matic accounts that have contrived names and photos (they lifted from God knows where) right in their header. these are accounts with mixed hastags....but many of them are already per-disposed into buying into Pizzagate and QAnon crap or are pro-conservative. These are accounts that probably were jiving the Clinton=Epstein crap, when far too much connects Epstein with Trump. They demonstrate a lack of critical thinking and are full of contentious over-emotional responses “If you don’t think something is wrong at Wayfair, you must love child sex-trafficking!!”....yeah, that kind of “cry wolf” crap.

Do these “people” look into Larry Nassar, The Children of God cult, NAMBLA, the conservative Bohemian Grove, or many of the countless guys on the Republican side of things connected to Trump AND pedophilia (Daniel Wenzek, Ralph Shortey, Roy Moore, George Nader, Milo Yiannopoulos, etc.)? Have any of these persons actually read a book about conspiracies written before 2005? Do they even read books about American history, which, in themselves, are rife with unflattering conspiracy? Do they only get “conspiracy theories” from YouTube videos and Reddit?

Folks need to look at the patterns and use some reasoning and stop going blindly “by the gut” when it comes to these things.

If you haven’t even read one book (or as I said, one unflattering historical account) regarding conspiracies, do not even attempt to come at me with this distracting Wayfair crap here on Tumblr.

Since it’s AO3 donation season again and people are bitching about AO3 again, I thought I’d my piece on why I think the call for censorship is absurd and that is because, well, what metrics for censhorship are you going to use?

Are you gonna ban anything that’s not legal? Legal where?

Because see, the internet is global. It’s used all around the world, in so many different countries. I myself am from Argentina, and whenever I see some US-centric navel-gazer claim things should go the US way I have to laugh because bitch, who the fuck do you think you are imposing your alien values on us. Imperialism much?

But let’s pretend, for example’s sake, that we do use the US’s laws to define what we can and can’t write about. Which state’s laws though? I hear a lot of states have different laws. Like, if I’m on a state where weed is illegal, am I banned from writing about weed? Should I cross states if I wanna write my weedfic in peace?

Say we decide imposing US values on each and every country is bad and we should all just police our own corner of the internet with our countries’ laws. Does that mean people in countries where gay marriage isn’t legal are not allowed to write about gay marriage? Does that mean people in countries where being gay is illegal shouldn’t write gay characters?

This is not a joke. This is not me being cheeky. This is me telling you equating legality and morality is a terrible idea. Laws are made by people in power and people in power are fickle dipshits. Just look at what’s happening in China

Let’s say we don’t choose legality as our banning parameters. Instead we choose morality. Again I ask, whose morality? Different countries have different morals. Hell, different subgroups in the same cities, let alone countries, have entirely different morals
