🏆 In 1982, Walker became the first Black woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for her novel, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘳 𝘗𝘶𝘳𝘱𝘭𝘦.

📚 Often included on banned book lists, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘳 𝘗𝘶𝘳𝘱𝘭𝘦 documents the traumas and gradual triumph of Celie, a Black teenager raised in rural Georgia. The novel explores themes of cyclical racism as well as sexism, the power of female relationships, and the disruption of conventional gender roles.
