Q!Bad makes me insane. I think about him all the time that whenever I'm bored in class I just draw him. He has infected my mind. Almost every song I listen to reminds me of him. He even made it to a homework assessment I'm working on. It's insane.

But his story is soooo <333 I adore stories that have mystery to them or horror in that case along with references to other stuff such a myths. Q!Bad destroyed Atlantis and everyone he knew died. Something happened in Venice that he doesn't want happening again. He saw the witch trials. He got stuck in a time loop with Skeppy. He's a part time Grim Reaper. He might be a past special guest for the Federation. He chooses to be kind. Everything about him <33

But there's the sad part. He has been alone. Alone as an immortal. He found Skeppy eventually and that reassured him but after meeting new people on this island that he might never escape from that might die. Along with him leading souls to the afterlife <33

He's committed a lot of crimes, this one being a pretty big one; capturing and torturing this Federation worker. But he's so <33

I enjoy seeing him experience the horrors, more horror for me and more theorizing from Bad :D

#there's this game i love called little hope that plays with these ideas (though not with a time loop) #i do love time loops narratives that explore how a person is confronted with their life and their choices #when forced to live the same day over and over again #and i LOVE time loops that try to reverse mistakes made and lives lost #but to see a character put themselves through loops upon loops upon loops #trying to rectify past mistakes (especially in the case where people died) only to be confronted with the reality it isn't working #and even in a loop where they save everyone the loop just resets #because the universe is essentially saying 'no that isn't how it happened and you know that's not how it happened' #it compels me! #i feel similarly about time travel where time 'fights back' #like this idea that there is a central timeline that time does not like being diverted from #so it will try to course correct itself #you save lincoln from an assassination only for him to die in a train crash #it's a cool way to confront the idea of fate #anyway all tragedies are hopeless time loops thank you for coming to my ted talk #a shout into the void #1k

i need you to know that your time travel mumscarian fic irreparably changed my brain chemistry and i will never know peace again. cursed to rotate the little guys in their little world in my mind forever.

This delights me! That idea came knocking at my door, demanding that I wrote it Immediately, so the feeling is honestly mutual.

Your kind words have reminded me of an idea I had for a future scene set in the same universe, and I thought I might share it:

Mumbo is getting closer to trying to fix his mistakes by building a device similar to his time machine that can repair the timelines, but to proceed he needs some schematics from his original workshop.

At fiurst he plans to simply go and get them from a time after he abandoned his workshop, but Grian and Scar veto it because that would put him in far too much danger from people who want revenge. Instead, they offer to go to a time before younger!Mumbo finished his time machine.

The mission itself is easy enough. Their Mumbo told them exactly when and where they would have the easiest time stealing from him. What they couldn't have prepared for was how difficult it would be to see younger Mumbo as he strolls into a little cafe to get his morning coffee, healthier and far more carefree than their Mumbo is even now that he has them reminding him to look after himself. Their Mumbo may not have aged much physically, but his eyes look centuries away from this Mumbo, whose smile reaches his eyes easily.

One of them distracts him while the other sneaks away with his bag, copying down the schematics and getting them back to him before he realises. Confronted with just how much the man they both love is going to lose, they cannot help but leave him with some advice to stay strong in the future, that everyone, no matter what they've done, deserves a chance at happiness.

(They bring their Mumbo a coffee order identical to the one his younger self ordered. It's not much, but it does make him smile fondly as he realises he actually remembers that day, remembers his first real meeting with his future partners, thinking they were both a little mad for giving him profound and cryptic words of encouragement at 7 in the morning. Kisses are shared, and Mumbo gets to be the one to fuss over his partners for a bit, insisting they rest up and decompress for a while.)

Alright so, to be completely honest...I actually don't truly know how Romance works to execute it myself 😬

Haha yup, sadly, the concept of Romance and Romantic Attraction didn't naturally come to me my whole life and I had a hard time understanding them. (Skill issue, amiright?) So I learned about them through fiction. And even then, my understanding of Romance was a little bit different from what it's usually is (spoiler: it wasn't actually Romance, the word I needed was "Queerplatonic").

I've drawn ship arts before I started drawing Frans and let me tell you, almost all of them were 2 characters just standing next to each other, no hugs, no kisses. Maybe they'll look at each other with fondness. And I was like "hell yeah, I've achieved Romance 😌" pfft.

My 2020 Frans works were where my ship art skills got improved. But you can still see that they aren't explicitly romantic (like, the first time I drew a Frans forehead kiss was for a request). Whatever, I was drawing stuffs about my fav lil guys and I was happy... and yet a tiny part of me wasn't feeling it, like it felt...odd to call them romantic. All these shippy art and I still felt uncomfortable to draw something extremely Romantic. (...this kinda sounds similar to a comphet kind of situation, you get what I'm saying?)

2 years later, I learned about the term "queerplatonic" and just like that, everything made sense =o Now THAT'S the kind of relationship I've been thinking about all these years and it felt magical. Suddenly, with this new knowledge, drawing shippy art felt more comfortable for me, cozy even. Cuz now, the "romance" I'm making is like something a little special for me.

And then I thought "what if I...👀" I grabbed Frisk and Sans like figurines and used them to make my own little ideas of a queerplatonic relationship as they were the perfect materials to work with for me.

I've actually been busying myself with thinking up ideas for them a year before I revealed it to my mutuals, even long before I revealed it publicly 😅

Still, my Roommate Banter AU Frans is still classic romantic. I've only been making funny lil contents of them but I swear! They're secretly crushing on each other, there's romance underneath! I just suck at Romance 😭

So yeah, TL:DR, I don't completely understand romance so I did what I felt comfortable and did actually get the most, approach a ship with a queerplatonic lens.

Tho I'm still learning about Romance cuz there're other ships I'd love to draw shippy art for XD

i think the tl gets this across great but for full context, the saying kuukou’s using here is transliterally ‘the buddha’s face thrice over’ which is an analogy used to say that even the most gentle of people will lose their cool when repeatedly subjected to injustices
