the couple of the universe, smau: lewis is a careless being this season and everyone's wondering why.

melody series (x performer!ofc)

summary: with her sharp eyes focused on her audience, a burlesque performer who went under the name of melody returned to rythme romantique, an entertainment lounge which exclusively caters to the wealthiest people of monaco — or in this case, to the people with a status that are recognized by all. her three exclusive performances were meant to be a closure for her connections in the principality. still, a certain formula one driver saw it as an opportunity to reconnect with his former flame after two years of her absence. felicity vos learned that this was a rich man’s world and that he could do whatever he wanted, but she also realized that the agreement they settled on years ago was corrupted the moment he expressed his love for her.

one, million dollar man: monaco was a world of glitz and glamour that she left two years ago. returning to the principality clearly was a huge mistake as she found herself talking to the man who swore to nothing but his love for her.

two, this is what makes us girls: "decorum isn't something you can buy with money or fame." or what did lewis really want from her and why did he show up on the second night of her performance?

the scheming schumachers, smau: sunny schumacher is mick's cousin and what does a family do? they attract arthur leclerc to get him away from his best friend, who happens to be mick's girlfriend. thankfully, the schumacher cousin is something of a welcome distraction for the monegasque.

debunking drama, smau: prequel to of long lines and names; aimee hearth, the mclaren media manager and one of the famous hearth sisters, was rumoured to be dating lando norris. a certain monegasque's baffled reaction became a trending topic in twitter as he counteracts the rumour with an instagram post of his lover. (f, h)

of long lines and names, fic: five kids with (almost) five names under six years. OR the three pregnancies that charles had witnessed told him how motherhood and memories could come in two sets of twins and a boy that looked so much like him. (f)

the leclerc daycare, fic: before his last set of twins were born, charles had to watch his boys on his own- not exactly by himself when he's got esteban and pierre acting as his right hand men. (f) (1/3 of daddy, debriefed!) ♡

one, an amazing boy with an amazing name: hervé's anger left his parents confused after he refused to be called by his first name. thankfully, his mamé pascale had an easy access to his heart that eventually led to an answer to his sadness.

two, the wingman of maranello: jules leclerc learned two things as he travelled to italy with his father: he had an uncle named uncle teague and uncle teague had a best friend that was once charles' godfather.

"slut", smau: charles' ex trashed his new girlfriend a while ago, but too bad he wasn't really into the thought of making music with anyone but lou villar.

In the f1 world today -

- jeddah media day where George got distracted by charles walking , max arrived late and carlos had to go back to the hotel cause he is feeling unwell

- An alpine technical director left the team for aston martin ( alonso effect)

- George said lewis is the greatest driver and he will be ready for any challenge if max arrives at Mercedes

- now for redbull drama , max was asked about Mercedes and he said he wants to focus on this season first cause otherwise it's not good for the team , he also said he was with his dad even today and he trusts him with his career alongside raymond , he also said his dad is not a liar and it would be weird for him to be on a different side than his dad . Max said that they've told to just focus on the race this weekend and not talk about any drama .

- Another redbull drama *sigh* , there were reports that the lawyer from the thai side of the team had terminated the contract of the woman who filed the complaint, it was reported that she will now engage in a legal lawsuit against horner with the support of austrain side , although someone later said her contract is not terminated. Also reports are coming that the thai side is ready to let go max but they'll keep horner ( disgraceful ) , the redbull company owners are against it .

I find myself despising horner more and more everyday , I actually thought that he cared about his drivers and team unlike some other team principals , now it's all a matter of control and money.

On Charles hate for me there are /

- usual mysogynic trolls that will hate on him, then love him then back to hating. They usually hate on people 10 times an hour and don’t know sh*t. They don’t really have a fav. Except maybe max but only now that he is winning and only when he doesn’t make statement that don’t make him a caveman. Most don’t watch f1 properly only threw Twitter or a few highlights.

- spanish Carlos fans. Same as Spanish Alonso fans. Will just make up stories, except Carlos doesn’t have Alonso talent (that made him get away with a lot of bad behavior). They are really vocal, Spanish press pretty biased. Just look at how they treated Ocon.

I’m sorry but the rest… they are at worst indifferent.

Then there is bias in the press. But they just love to « hate » on someone especially if there is a story to sell like there is with Charles. And also Charles being monegasque he doesn’t really have a country that can defend him. Like British press for George, etc. I’d say on that he is more like Alex : when he wins he is italian (Alex : British) when he doesn’t of struggles he is a stranger (Alex : Thai). The thing is Charles is so popular (he is the face of f1 after Lewis, even without winning. The engagement is huge with him he is a sponsor’s god) the press will get engagement just talking about him so they are creating drama. They can’t do that with Max anymore, he is famous but people engage less unfortunately especially now that he is just cruising, there is no drama or controversy he becomes boring. While Charles charisma makes him interesting doing nothing. And it used to be because of Ferrari but now sometimes he is bigger than the team. He is famous on his own, like I really think switching teams he would bring a huge fanbase.

I'm just going to preface this post with this: what I'm about to say does not in anyway take away from the struggles Lewis faced while getting to F1. It does not change how hard he and his family worked to get him to F1. It doesn't make what he's done any less impressive or important.

I only want to make a post about this because it's something I've seen being said a lot and it's been said for years. Sebastian, Alonso, and Albon are all drivers who did not pay their way into a seat. The guy who made the tweet is responding to people and saying that those drivers listed got their seat because they brought on sponsorships. (Seb was funded by BMW, Alonso with Telefonica, Albon with a Thai sponsor who I can't remember.)

My only issue, and again I'm not saying this to take away from Lewis, is that Seb being funded by BMW is no different then Lewis being funded by McLaren or Ocon being funded by Merc.

We can 100% respect and appreciate how hard these drivers worked to get to F1 without having to make random claims. I do also think it's worth noting that a driver like Leclerc (who's family could afford to help him race) is massively different than a driver like Latifi.

What we are suffering now is the consequence of an accumulation of bad decisions that we have been accumulating throughout the pre-season.

Letting go Busquets when we didn't have a reliable DM before the season stsrted, Romeu was just decent in Girona and obviously wouldnt handle Barca pressure since he never has been in a big club. Not having one made Gavi, another season again, to favour the other players since he is the only reliable one who made the defensive work.

Letting go Jordi Alba and not getting a LB, he was Balde's competition and I think it was an importsnt factor to keep him more motivated to gain that spot in the starting XI. Also we could rotate him because he cannot let youngsters be overplayed

Not getting a proper RB. We went with the idea of BACK since they helped us winning Laliga last season but nobody wants to play in that position and it hurted us in many ways.

Letting go Tenas as our second choice, i know Ter Stegen being this out for so many months was unoredictable but man, he is getting older and at some point we have to start rotating him and Tenas was perfect for that

Unexperienxed staff. I know that half of pur tactics wouldnt be as bad as theyre now if Xavi had people to tell him how to do the right things at the right moments, and literally tell him thay playing players out of position to favour only 1 is an horrible idea

The injuries. Many of them were inside the pitcj but the others were also because of incompetiviness. We shouldve changed physios, trainers and medical staff when all this epidemic of injuries started.

The forwards. Lewandowski started to lower his workrate after WC, but nobody expected that this season would be so freakin worse. Still dont know why we didnt sell Raphinha because guy tries and tries but he doesnt hit, same goes with Ferran. Félix is way too inconsistent too.

Literally we never sign players from 25 to 29 years old or something, they either go to children or +30 and it pissed me off so bad. We are an unbalanced team because they either are not capable of playing so many matches because they are too young and unexperienced or theyre washed.

The pressing system relying to one and only one player. Xavi relying on Gavi for all this work only shows his unexperience because evn if you trust him so much, you cannot just let a 19yo do all the job that its supposed to do the whole defense and only a CM who has to sacrifice himself for the team and do all the dirty work

Also relying on Gavi to be the motor of this team. Genuinely why are these veterans relying to a 19yo to be the moral, emotional, passion and motivational support? Once they took Gavi awau from them they are so fucking useless in both recovering balls and having a minimum of passion. Do they know for which team theyre playing for?

The salaries. Im sorry but the FPP rules are killing us and Frenkie not lowering his salary is the main culprit, and Lewa too because the man has been shit for months yet he receives lots of money

Not getting rid of useless players like Sergi Roberto or Marcos Alonso.

Not signing any relevant players that could make a difference in the club

I totally agree with you on most points except the third because we did sign a RB in cancelo it's just that the few times Cancelo isn't fit to play kounde started whining about having to play there 😒

Also, the over reliance on Gavi is actually ridiculous both from the coach and the players he's literally a kid ffs.

What are your thoughts on the whole "Lewis is pure natural talent and instinct while [insert driver (mostly seen this comparison with Nico)] is hardworking/analytical AND talented but not as much as Lewis" narrative/comparison and just how it's been pushed so much by journalists/media (esp during the Silver War if I'm remembering my dates correctly)? Because tbh it's always kinda rubbed me the wrong way the way that it indirectly implies that Lew doesn't work as hard as Nico/the other drivers because the implication that any driver on the grid, esp one with as many titles/accomplishments as Lewis, is working less than the other guys on the grid just doesn't make sense from a logical perspective, because no matter how much talent you have you can't win a million titles and break a million records without working just as, if not harder, than everyone else.

i can answer this in one sentence: its racism.

but ill go more into detail, because racism in f1 is a weird beast that people SAY doesnt exist, but absolutely does. more below the cut, this is gonna be long

lewis hamilton is undeniably incredibly naturally talented. you dont do *that* in your rookie season and beat a world champion despite being put on alternate fuel strategies and tyre strategies for the first half of the season without incredible levels of talent. 07 is also spygate, though, so bare that in mind, i guess. regardless, insane season, and he outdrove PRIME FERNANDO ALONSO. AS A ROOKIE.

so im not team LH44 blah blah blah disclaimer here but yeah, you dont win SEVEN world championships without insane levels of talent, but also hard work. and the reason that it is implied that it was “just the car” for lewis so often is definitely attributed to casual racism in f1. even though drivers are nothing without their cars - schumacher couldnt have done what he did without ferrari. max couldnt be doing what hes doing now without RBR, same for vettel and RBR. people dont question their dominance as much (minus maybe max, who is still early on in his career)

i think the silver war unfortunately kinda makes the “lewis doesnt work as hard / hes just talented” argument stick out a bit bc nico in ‘16 was batshit crazy. he didnt see his wife and kids, he spent all his spare time in karts. he had to go in so hard to beat lewis its insane. but somehow the narrative for that gets switched to nico worked so hard / he beat lewis in equal machinery / he fought so hard to achieve what his dad did instead of lewis was so good that he was THAT hard to beat for an incredibly talented rosberg. which is … weird, imo!

but i think the main thing for me that sticks out is lewis not being top of the GOAT debate / there still being a goat debate between him and schumi. theres a BIIIIT of nuance there bc schumi won 5x WDC in a row (unmatched record) and drove in a very different era, and also had a HUGE cultural impact because he was the first f1 driver to be truly dominant and is the insp for a lot of the drivers on the grid today. however, lewis has more race wins, more poles, more fastest laps, and an equal number of championships. i am of the opinion that if lewis was white, he’d be largely undisputed as greatest of all time. instead, people won’t call him that unless he wins an 8th. EVEN if he does win his eighth, hes likely to still be debated.

we see racism elsewhere on the grid, too:

• albon often speaks about being called british when he does well, and being called thai when he does badly

• zhou guanyu being called a pay driver by everyone

• yuki tsunoda. ohhh my god that man is overlooked CHRONICALLY, not just by fans, but by his own team bosses. he very much deserves a shot at the RBR seat in 24 unless ricciardo is INCREDIBLE and outperforms him consistently, which i cant see happening.

theres also, somewhat, an argument for logan sargeant being somewhat of an outsider within the grid because hes american, but the fans definitely dont overlook him (partly due to his history with oscar piastri, who IS popular and on a team thats fighting for high points positions) but also imo bc hes white, where tsunoda / zhou arent.

ofc its more complex than this. theres a ton of factors at play, like ethnicity / race and then nationality that they drive for, where they’re bought up, and these all interact with each other, not just in drivers who are poc but in the white european drivers too. all of it plays into their image.

so yeah. people implying that lewis isnt as hard working rubs me the wrong way too. because its literally just racism, but most f1 fans will say that it doesnt exist, its just lewis’ demeanour etc.

which. ugh. whenever i encounter f1 fans IRL, its a pretty good litmus test as to whether ill like them or not is if they like lewis. if they hate lewis, ESPECIALLY if theyre a new fan and hate lewis, its a red flag, bc lewis has done barely anything to be hated, lol. esp when alonso has more cheating scandals and ppl seem to love him !!

Helmet Watch 2023

So, I had way too much fun rating all the team’s liveries this year (if you missed any of it you can find my thoughts here), so much so that I’ve decided to rate all the driver’s helmets as well! (I’ve also had a helmet tag on my blog pretty much ever since I got back into watching F1 because I just love how much effort gets put into each drivers helmet design... and I’m a Seb fan. Stanning helmet designs is in my blood by default)

Under a read more bc we have A LOT to get through! (Listed in alphabetical order by surname bc that just felt the best way to organise it)

Alexander Albon (Williams)

Starting off very, very strong. I LOVE the blue and red pairing, it looks so clean but so eye catching at the same time. And the stripes of the Thai flag is a really nice touch. I’m not sure why there’s the odd flash of light blue though?? It kinda feels like an afterthought.

Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin)

I do like the colour scheme, it just feels a tad busy with all the various stripes. But it is a really nice update to his traditional helmet design. I wish the Aston Martin wings were in the darker blue though, they would stand out so much better.

Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo)

I do love me a mix of metallic finishes. The colour scheme as a whole is also top tier, the softer metallic blue with the more glittery charcoal, paired with the crème white is excellent. The overall design is super clean and looks really slick, his partner Tiffany who designed it did a really nice job!!

Pierre Gasly (Alpine)

CHROME MY MOST BELOVED!!!

I really liked his Monaco helmet last year and his design for this year is almost as good. I am obsessed with mixed finishes so the chrome on the crème white base it so nice, I like the pops of red, and the thin French flag going down the middle is a nice touch.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)

So so so so much yes. There’s just SO MUCH I love about his 2023 design. Echoing his original helmet design with the yellow, but mixing in the purple from recent years. And the subtle rainbow gradient lines are so pretty and so perfect. And it looks gorgeous with the black Merc livery, which is always an excellent plus.

Nico Hulkenberg (Haas)

You know what... I really like it. The paint splatter effect is so pretty, I don’t recall seeing it on a helmet before and I think it looks great! It helps that there’s three different shades of orange to give some dimension. I am also obsessed with the glittery metallic purple. It works really well with the orange, and as it’s a warm-toned it should look somewhat coherent with the red in the Haas livery.

Charles Leclerc (Ferrari)

Not gonna lie, I got major Schumi vibes when I saw this. Which did make me every so slightly weepy, but he has made it slightly his own with the addition of the Monaco flag. It’s really simple, but it works. But like so much of F1 this year I really wish it was glossy instead of matte.

Kevin Magnussen (Haas)

Gotta respect the consistency Kevin has had with his helmet design since 2014. The colour scheme is also great, it’ll look really nice with the Haas livery, and stand out against his team mate’s (always nice to be able to tell the difference, looking at you 2013 yellow helmet Brocedes). I’m not overly wowed, but I also don’t hate it, it’s a really solid design.

Lando Norris (McLaren)

F1 teams take note bc THIS is how you make exposed carbon work!. The design feels properly thought out, so it doesn’t feel like anything is missing, as opposed to a few of the car liveries this year. And like Lewis’ helmet with the Merc livery, the simple two colour palette looks so good. Probably my favourite helmet design of Lando’s thus far.

Esteban Ocon (Alpine)

Yes. Absolutely no notes. Excellent work. Bloody gorgeous.

Sergio Perez (Red Bull)

It’s ever so slightly busy, but I still do like it!! The white and grey is the perfect base for all the bright pops of colour, and the pattern is very funky. Honestly it’s the Red Bull logo that lets it down for me with the different shade of yellow. If it was the same chartreuse as the accents it would look really good.

Oscar Piastri (McLaren)

I have mixed feelings about this one. One the one hand I love how bright and colourful it is (unlike the MCL60) and I think the colour scheme is really fun (peep the silver holo!!). On the other, the design and layout feels a little too busy. However I do think it will still look really nice with the car, and as always bonus points for not being matte.

George Russell (Mercedes)

I LOVE the shade of blue George picked, it’s really bright which will go really well with the black livery. Though it does remind me of the 2014 Malaysia helmet that Lewis never got to use (which, after 9 years, I’m still mad about) which colour scheme wise I definitely prefer. Overall it’s another super clean design which isn’t too simple that it looks plain.

Carlos Sainz Jr (Ferrari)

I find it a bit wild that Carlos and Fernando have done updates of their classic designs in the same year. Anyway, the geometric pattern is fun! It does make it look a lot more dynamic than just flat lines, though the black feels a bit jarring and out of place to me. I can only assume it’s to differentiate from Charles’ all red helmet.

Lance Stroll (Aston Martin)

Lance is once again staying true to the AM brand and I’m honestly not that mad about it. As a British Racing Green enthusiast I loooooove the base colour, especially bc it’s both glossy and has a super subtle sparkle to it!!! The Aston Martin wings looks great solid as opposed to an outline, but for me they’re a bit too big. And I’m not really sure why there’s a blue outline on the top, white or silver would have looked more coherent.

Yuki Tsunoda (Alpha Tauri)

I looooooooove this design so much!!! It’s so different, which I always appreciate, and I always enjoy it when a driver pays homage to their home country/heritage. I should add that we have a Japanese Maple tree in our garden (which is what the leaves are) and using different colour leaves is so so so pretty. I wish he had been able to put the Alpha Tauri logo in a different colour to make it look more coherent.

Nyck de Vries (Alpha Tauri)

I really like the colour scheme on this one, incorporating hints of Dutch orange into the navy and white AT colour scheme works so well, and I also like the flashes of lighter blue. And I especially love the slivers of silver holo, I just wish there was a tad more to contrast against the matte finish.

Max Verstappen (Red Bull)

Obviously, I do have my Seb fan bias of there only being one superior ‘white helmet with driver’s flag colours’ design, but this does look nice. It’s really clean, and unlike Perez’s the Red Bull logo feels like it fits in with the design much better. But, I do feel like it could use a little jazzing up, maybe making the dark blue stripes a glossy metallic.

Zhou Guanyu (Alfa Romeo)

Lad is really going for the paddock fashionista title and I respect that. I adored his porcelain design at Abu Dhabi, so the ode to that around the visor is really cool (peep the smidge of silver holo, more of that please!!). I like that it’s an overall warm toned colour palette that should complement the red and black Alfa well. It’s so bright and I think it will really stand out at both day and night races.
