#Temperance Tarot Card Meaning

𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝑀𝑎𝑗𝑜𝑟 𝐴𝑟𝑐𝑎𝑛𝑎

So, I’ve done a post about why I add a character’s moral alignment, so I thought I would do it for the Tarot cards. Maybe you’ve noticed it or not (it is something I’ve only started doing). 

Because there are 4 suits; Cups (Water), Wands (Fire), Swords (Air) & Pentacles (Earth). I decided this first post will be about the Major Arcana, to break up the Tarot - so it’s easier to digest, rather than have everything thrown at you.

Okay, so the Major Arcana is about a person going through different stages in their life. Starting off with The Fool - who is a curious innocent who wants to experience the world, to the end, ‘The World,’ meaning you’ve accomplished what was set before you.

Each zodiac sign has their own tarot card that represents them. Here’s a free website that tells you. I’ll provide the sun signs equivalent to their tarot card. Although you have your own personal one!

I’ll make another post on how to read tarot cards, because there’s a lot that goes into it. But with the Major Arcana, their messages are much clearer (inn my experience) then the Minor Arcana (the suits; cups, wands, swords, pentacles). 

Also, when I read tarot, I include when a card comes out upside down. You don’t have to do this if you don’t want to. Do what feels right, it may seem silly or overstated, but your intuition is a superpower. Feel it in your gut. Listen to yourself. 

These cards will represent the deeper, more life-impacting matters. The Major arcana deal with the major moments in our lives. 

𝟎. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐥

This is a card of rebirth. It signifies new opportunities. Telling us that it’s never too late to start fresh and follow your heart’s desire. 

Zodiac Card: All signs

Keywords: Beginnings, Risks. 

Element: Air

Planet: Uranus

Upright: New beginnings, adventure ahead, innocence, a thirst for life, enthusiasm. Someone who lights up a room. Taking that leap of faith, starting something new, optimism, openness to the unknown, a free spirit. 

Reversed: Recklessness, risk, naievity, holding yourself back, stupidity, negligence. 

Yes/No: Yes (although usually when a card is in reversed, it means the opposite. Again, you don’t have to take into account when the card is upside down. It’s completely fine to read them as if they were upright)

Advice: Don’t be afraid to take chances, and go on new adventures. However, think before making too big of a leap. Change is inevitable, embrace it rather than fight it. You never know what could happen next. 

Quote: “I’m ready for the next chapter in my life.”

𝟏. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐧

The Magician represents creation and manifestation. This card is the inventor, the self-employed, the entrepreneur. It reminds us to step into our power. 

Zodiac Card: Gemini & Virgo

Keywords: Action, Ambition, Manifesting. 

Element: Air

Planet: Mercury

Upright: Power, skill, manifestation, resourcefullness, inspired action, concentration, desire, creation. 

Reversed: Trickery, deception, manipulation, poor planning, untapped talents, someone who doesn’t believe in themselves. 

Yes/No: Yes

Advice: This card encourages you to set your intention; in life, in your work, your family, your relationships etc. Don’t be flaky, or indecisive. Decide what you want and bloody go for it. 

Quote: “As above, so below.” / “Make your own magic.” 

𝟐. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐬

Simply, this card represent the subconscious mind. It’s all about inner wisdom, what we’ve learnt - both the good and the bad. And how we can combine that with our intuition and knowledge to move forward. 

Zodiac Card: Cancer

Keywords: Secrets, Intuition, Learning. 

Element: Water

Planet: Moon

Upright: Intuition, sacred knowledge, divine feminine, the subconscious mind, mystery.

Reversed: Secrets, disconnected from intuition, withdrawal, silence, hidden agendas. A need to listen to your inner voice, lack of self-trust. 

Yes/No: Maybe, listen to yourself. 

Advice: Slow down, stop listening to your intellect. Instead, reflect on what you’ve learnt, listen to your intuition and aquire more knowledge. 

Quote: “Explore your spiritual side.” / “Trust your own counsel first.” 

𝟑. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬

This card embodies growth, divinity, celebration and evolution. It represents abundance and material comfort, sensuality, security and emotional support. 

Zodiac Card: Taurus

Keywords: Creativity, Resources, Motherhood. 

Element: Earth

Planet: Venus

Upright: Femininity, beauty, nurturing, mother nature, abundance, love, possible pregnancy (not always you!)

Reversed: Creative block, dependence on others, insecurity, inferitlity, disharmony, smothering. 

Yes/No: Yes

Advice: This card calls on you to tap into your feminine side; think of creativity, elegance, sensuality, fertility, and nurturing. Be kind to yourself. Search for the beauty in all things. 

Quote: “Be your own fairy godmother.” / “The pleasure is all mine.” 

𝟒. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐫

This card represents responsibility, intimate power, authority, a bringer of balance. It could be about a man, or your masculine side. It’s a return to order. A reminder to trust yourself. 

Zodiac Card: Aries

Keywords: Order, Power, Boundaries. 

Element: Fire

Planet: Mars

Upright: Authority, estbalishedment, structure, father figure, rise to power, stable future, ambition. 

Reversed: Domination, excessive control, lack of discipline, inflexibility, patriarchal society, power struggles, cannot help yourself. 

Yes/No: Yes

Advice: Even though a ruler has a throne, a crown, and power; they still serve. 

Quote: “Don’t apologise for who you are.” / “Respect yourself.”

𝟓. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐭

This card represents an authority figure between the material and spirit. Someone who guides, and teaches. This card shows support, self-realisation, and expansion. Additionally, the Hierophant represents insitiutions, and traditional values.

Keywords: Unity, Marriage, Education. 

Element: Earth

Planet: Venus

Upright: Spiritual wisdom, religious beliefs, conformity, tradition, institiutions, knowledge sharing, blind faith. 

Reversed: Personal beliefs, freedom, challenging the status quo, rebellion.

Yes/No: Ask someone wise. 

Advice: Know your boundaries and stand strong in them. 

Quote: “Develop yourself emotionally and spiritually.”

This card represents relationships, connection and equality. You are being asked to make a mature decision that supports your true needs.

Planet: Mercury

Upright: Love, harmony, relationships, values, choices, soulmates, strong bond. 

Reversed: Self-love, disharmony, imbalance, misalignment of values, conflict, detachment, strife, lack of trust.

Advice: There is reason for optimism and the potential for harmony. It’s all up to you. Don’t go for the easy road.

Upright: Control, will-power, success, action, determination, fame and fortune, being a source of inspiration, two forces pulling in the opposite direction. 

Reversed: Self-discipline, opposition, lack of direction, desire for revenge, showing off, using others for your benefit.

Advice: The journey is just as important as the destination. 

Quote: “Persevere against all odds.” / “Keep going.”

𝟖. 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡

This card represents self-guidance and self-confidence. It’s a time to summon your courage and determination to get the situation under control.

Upright: Control, courage, compassion, patience, focus, influence, caring for others, inner strength, strong sense of responsibility. 

Reversed: Self-doubt, weakness, insecurity, low energy, raw emotion, putting others before you, others trying to knock you down.

Advice: Remember to act with grace and sensitivity rather than using brute force.

This card represents forging your own path in the pursuit of knowledge and truth. It’s more so a state of mind rather than physically being on your own. This sage is ushering in a period of personal growth and exploration.

Upright: Solitude, guidance, soul-searching, introspection, being alone, inner guindance, wisdom, learning, the pursuit of knowledge. Gaining independence. 

Reversed: Anti-social, restrictive, isolation, loneliness, withdrawal, paranoia, paralysed by fear, betrayal, hiding what you really think.

Yes/No: Maybe. 

Advice: Rely on yourself. You already have the answers you need. If you’re under pressure, the Hermit card will reveal itself to say that you need more time.

This card represents the emracing of destiny, and the movement of the universe. Additionally, reveals psychic ability, so use it wisely to listen to your intuition and manifest your wishes.

Advice: While you can’t control the forces of the universe, you can certainly come to a better understanding of your role within it.

Reversed: Unfairness, lack of accountability, dishonesty, corruption, prejudice,. you’ll get what you deserve for the worst, negative legal outcomes.

Advice: Do not fear, your justice will come. If you have wronged someone, it’s best to take accountability and learn from your mistakes.

This card represents a pause, inner reflection and patience. The obvious meaning is ... hanging around - that events aren’t moving forward and all you can do is wait. It can also mean you’ve made sacrifices and are waiting to see the rewards.

Keywords: Waiting, Sacrifice. 

Element: Water

Planet: Neptune

Upright: Restriction, letting go, sacrifice, paise, new perspective, playing “the waiting game.” forced to be still, cannot bloom all the time. 

Reversed: Martyrdom, indecision, delay, closed off, stuck in your mindset, not seeing the bigger picture. 

Yes/No: Maybe

Advice: Your project needs time to evolve. 

Quote: “Surrender.” / “Change your perspective.”

𝟏𝟑. 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡

This card represents the natural cycles of life. Death brings endings and beginnings - sometimes all at once. This card is a time of quick and deep transformation. An opportunity to let go of what is no longer serving you. 

Zodiac Card: Scorpio 

Keywords: Transformation, Change, New Beginnings. 

Element: Water

Planet: Pluto

Upright: Ending of a cycle, transitions, powerful movement, transformation, endings, beginnings, sudden unexpected ‘death’ is not the end. 

Reversed: Resisiting change, fear of new beginnings, repeating the same negative patterns, another phase in our lives. 

Yes/No: Maybe

Advice: This card can be a release as well as a relief, leaving you with the bare bones...the truth. 

Quote: “Don’t fear the reaper.” / “Change.”

This card represents moderation and temptation. There is a balance in the universe and the need to set your own boundaries. Temperance shows you dealing with a potentially volatile situation, and you need to temper your thoughts and actions.

Upright: Balance, moderation, patience, purpose, good health, finding solutions, cooperating with others, pure contentment, peaceful home life, end of arguments/conflict. 

Reversed: Imbalance, discord, hastiness, over-indulgence, risky behaviour, avoidance of conflict, being a pushover, overlooking obvious problems.

Advice: Sometimes you cannot choose one side/perspective/person/problem, but accept both sides of the situation and reconcile what is out of balance. Once you’ve seen what is out of balance - take action!

Advice: Walk away from temptation, however, you may need to use a little devilish cunning.

Upright: Destruction, chaos, change, upheaval, awakening, crisis, unpleasant surprise, become stronger, release, painful loss, tragedy, revelation.

Upright: Judgement, rebirth, inner calling, absolution, action, renewal, reflection, reckoning, a calling you cannot ignore, fresh start, great opportunities. 

Reversed: Feeling down, self-doubt, blame, destruction, ignoring the call, loss of opportunity, not meant to be, outcome that’s out of your control. 

Yes/No: Neutral

Advice: Own it all, then let it go. 

Quote: “Face yourself.” / “Be self-aware rather than self-critical.”

𝟐𝟏. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝

This card represents an open door, and the excitement of every potential action in the universe. This card is the conclusion of the Fool’s journey and a new beginning. A completion of one cycle, and now another begins.

Keywords: Success, Completion. 

Element: Earth

Planet: Saturn

Upright: Completion, integration, accomplishment, travel, success, harmony, celebration, fulfillment, positive results, travelling around the world.  

Reversed: Seeking personal closure, short-cuts, delays, failure, unfulfilled, a change may not be welcome, but in time it will be. 

Yes/No: Yes

Advice: This is a time for celebration, so it is as great card for groups. 

Quote: “Feel your deserved success.” / “Everything you have worked for is coming together.”

TEMPERANCE RX 🧘🏾‍♀️ | One of the most difficult parts of life is understanding and achieving “balance”; taking a little from here & a little from there to maintain equity and harmony. Temperance’s upright implications generally speak to seeking stability while stepping outside of our comfort zones to feel more well-rounded. Temperance Rx takes on the more Sagittarian aspects of the card, emphasizing recklessness and taking things to the extreme. Pushing ourselves to the limit of our physical, mental & spiritual limitations only leads to a harder recovery (if any at all) down the line. Just because we can doesn’t mean we should. Staying present with our emotions and actions calls on us to be of two consciousnesses (calling in The Lovers & Gemini) so as not to fall too deep one way & neglect the rest. When it comes up in our readings, we are being asked to reflect on where we’ve been doing too much and/or too little, and pick up the slack where it’s needed. Staying present & grounded is constant work, and Temperance Rx’s presence in our spreads can be a warning that we’ve been going too far in one direction & need to make some shifts.

Shuffling your cards, a sign that says dead end pops up in my head along with the song Energy by Keri Hilson. Currently, you may be at a job that doesn’t fulfill you or doesn't give you any kind of balance in your life that you desperately crave right now. Some of you may have issues with if not colleagues possibly the higher-ups at work because you don’t feel appreciated and like the song energy it’s draining you day in and day out and you don’t see the light at the tunnel some days. Some of you wish you could quit but you know people around you will see you as a fool because maybe this job gives you good benefits, discounts, it’s “stable”, or maybe it looks good to have on your resume but inside you’re dying. You know you can’t keep doing this job forever and know you need to leave soon but aren’t sure when to leave or even how because for just a few of you, you may not have a backup or even know what you want to do with your life. Maybe you’re a part of the group where your parents have told you X was a good career choice and you never thought about looking into anything else because you trust the opinions of others or trust in something that’s more predictable than having constant downs and ups.

Travel, flexibility, and freedom are what you are destined for. I’m hearing influencers or even content creators for a lot of you. Just remember content creator doesn’t always mean social media you could possibly be an artist and use social media to help promote your brand. The song Belle from Beauty and the Beast is playing in my head. It’s the song where Belle is singing about longing for adventure and the great outdoors something more than this everyday life that has everyone satisfied and content with not wanting more.  You want to be your own boss and not have to deal with the constant drama of having other people around you telling you what you can and cannot do. This may be specific for only just a few of you but maybe you have a manager who doesn’t like to let you take time off from work or even play favorites with who they allow and don’t allow to do things. For those who want to be influencers, I’m mostly seeing travel, and artists (writers, bloggers, painters, sculptors, etc) again you don’t have to be but I’m feeling this pile wants freedom or at least a job where they can wake up how celebrities do. If you want to do nothing all day, that’s what you do. If you want to go to Bali at the drop of the hat that’s what you do and so forth. Sup y'all and welcome back to my free PAC readings! Thank you so so much for your patience with this particular post. It's been a busy week and it'll only get busier! I haven't done many love readings in the past as my readings focused solely on the querent. I decided to keep it simple and focus on that (frankly addicting) feeling of falling in love for the first time with someone.

I pulled your oracle cards before your tarot, and before I did I said "this must be my Pisces pile". Then BOOM I got the Moon card dead center. You may be drawn to this pile if you have a lot or important Pisces placements, but I think it also very well describes the general energy of this pile.

Your next falling in love will be like a dream, or something that came from your dreams. Your person may remind you of someone you once met in your dreams even. It will feel as though your crush will be as a glowing light in the dark that warms you as you move forward into the unknown. If you're with someone, they could be showing up in your dreams more and more--there could even be a case of you both receiving signals about each other.

You're comfortable with letting fate be the guiding hand in you you'll meet next and what your partner will be like. Notice how in two cards we see closed eyes? One is resting, while the other is still walking to where she wants to go. There is a certain faith about this pile, you feel in your heart that the one you're seeking is out there and that you will not need to put yourself in uncomfortable situations to find them.

With this, sometimes you may falter and feel disheartened when you feel other people meeting their match while you're still watching the clouds roll by in the shape of your dreams. While there's nothing wrong with that, this question is about what it will feel like the next time you're in love. And I have to remind those who need this message that it's okay to take the time you need to recover.

But when you're finally ready to emerge back into the dating world, or if you're planning to, you will need to do so with open arms. Not the same as naïveté. Not the same as being in the same situations or patterns that didn't work out before. But you will need to push aside negative feelings telling you it won't work out again before you can move further with other singles. If you're in a relationship it's likely that your partner wants to see your emotional qualities more, they want you to open up so they can do the same. They want to work side-by-side with you and help you.

You're a strong individual when it comes to reaching your goals. With that said, it's okay to let others, specifically your next partner, help you out in areas you normally excel in. Also I wanted to add that when I did the reading for this pile, a little moth landed on my door's window and stared at me upside down like the Hanged One! Not a butterfly, but close enough! Pile 3: Red (Peacock)

7 of Wands; Mystery, Desire, Wisdom, 24. Heal Thyself; 3 of Pentacles, VI Lovers, Queen of Cups, 7 of Wands (x2)

Pile 3, I'm glad I chose the beautiful red Peacock butterfly for your reading because this pile is incredibly bold! You got 7 of wands twice. It doesn't seem as though you're scared to stand out of the crowd to attract your next crush. Similarly, you want the same in your partner. You may be looking for someone who's strong and assertive, and maybe loves to put on a good show for people (as we have Mars in Leo here).

You could be into punk, or darker music genres. Your next love will be fiery, but won't show all their cards. They leave just enough detail for you to want to know more, I think they'd like to egg you on or tease you (but not in a mean way). This person could be way more intelligent than they may let on initially. You'll feel challenged by them, in a refreshing way. They may invite you to debate or play something competitive with them.

I think there's one thing that must be greatly noted with this pile, and that's remembering to stop and take some time for yourself. It doesn't mean stepping out of the dating scene. There's a fine line to walk between meeting someone who's very attractive at face level and the love that comes from genuine compatibility. Lovers speaks about integrating these two parts as one instead of thinking it's one or the other.

You also need to make sure to prioritize your own needs as well rather than get caught up in the heat of passion. I don't think this pile struggles at all with passion, but some emotional discretion is advised here. There could have been people surrounding past relationships who weren't really supportive of who you were with. Whether or not they were in the "right", it's left you a bit defensive over who you choose to be with. Please remember to take time away from every influence to listen to your own inner voice.

Pile 4: Green (Emerald Swallowtail)

King of Pentacles; Stop, Pause, Goals, 23. Big Picture; 2 of Cups, XVII Star, XIV Temperance, 6 of Cup

Oh wow, pile 4. Stop and Pause side by side, and then we have Goals on the bottom. Stopping goals! Says who?! Not you, Emerald Swallowtail, with the King of Pentacles in front. You must be a very career or school driven group. Money savvy, ambitious, and unafraid to chart unknown territory. You'll definitely be a catch for the next person you fall for.

Except it doesn't seem like you're in the mood for the dating scene at all. Not in the fun and casual sense anyway. You want someone serious and committed, right off the bat. Someone who's fiscally responsible and likely as driven as you. You want someone who comes right in, sits down, and presents themselves as a good partner as though they're interviewing for a job hoping the star will stand out of the pack. Mainly, you want to know exactly what you're in for before sticky things like emotions even enter the picture.

This pile seems similar to my pile 2. Maybe somebody in the past told you that as soon as you marry or get serious with someone, it's gonna affect your career or your stability and that sacrifices will inevitably be made. That seeking any kind of relationship is like stepping over huge boulders hoping your ankle won't fall through between the cracks. The thing is, emotions are already involved in this. Your next love will make you feel stable and secure, knowing that you don't have to push too hard to get by.

Moreover, your next love will LOVE that you're career oriented. They will not be threatened by your achievements. They can help you bring balance between the adult side of you that's disciplined and focused and the little kid in you who wants to play and explore. There is such warmth with this pile, it's like the sense of having a good looking musician with a great smile gently guide your hand up on stage to let you be part of the show. Even if you're the shy type to stand back, your crush will rave about you enough to have you blushing. They'll root for your success even when you'd rather be modest.

I get with this pile that you may be slow to open up with new people, and that you would prefer to take your time in meeting someone serious. From outside it seems that I have everything, as if my life was perfect...I am self-sufficient, I have people to dine with, people to dance with, friends that I can call and family that I spend time with but...I'm not that confident.
